hallo your au has inspired me to write a short fic of my own c: it's sort of fluff of geode au fingon/sold as pet maedhros. can i have your permission to post this on ao3 at some point?
-
"You want to what?" Fingolfin stared at his eldest as if he grew a second head, momentarily untangling his fingers from Maedhros' curls.
"I– I said I want to marry Maedhros," Fingon repeated.
"That's... Fingon are you– Why??"
A good question. Fingon didn't really know why. He barely understood his growing feelings for Maedhros let alone considered marrying him. He always thought he'd marry someone from a more respectable family not the biggest whore in all of Arda, but the sight of his father's hands all over the elf who showed him so much trust and love in the past few weeks urged a sense of chivalry in Fingon that he thought he was no longer capable of.
"Why does anyone marry anyone? For love, of course."
"Not true, you could always marry someone for politics or even tax benefits. Marrying this harlot will only break your heart."
"Not as much you're breaking mine right now. Maitimo loves me father, if he didn't I think I'd have lived my days not thinking much of him either. But I find that I have become infatuated with him as of late and would like get to know him more outside the bonds of servitude."
Fingolfin studied him as Fingon steeled his gaze, Maedhros the only thing between them shaking like a leaf. He made little effort to stop the king's molestation but it was clear from Maitimo's big wet eyes he still wanted Fingon's approval first. It took all of Fingon not to run to him and embrace him and tell him everything would be okay.
"So be it."
Fingon sighed out air he didn't realize he was holding.
Fingolfin for his part was not entirely convinced of his son's declaration. Sure he has noticed Maedhros had been acting a little strange as of late and he did see the appeal in it but Fingon's attention never stayed in one place too long and he'd probably grow bored of Maedhros' shtick eventually. Fingolfin had other pretty Feanorians to fuck in the meantime.
Besides this might be an opportunity for his reckless son to learn a thing or two about responsibility.
"Try not to damage him Findekano." His father stood and brushed away the crease in his robes just as easily as he shoved Maitimo away. "If he is to be your betrothed I expect him to act like one. You'll feed him, wash him, and teach him all the ways of court. And since you're engaged people need to see that you're actually taking the whole thing seriously, so no fucking anyone else for at least a year. Am I clear?"
"Of course! I'll be the most well-behaved husband in all of Arda!" Fingon promised as Fingolfin left the two newly betrothed alone.
This is amazing! And yes, you can definitely post it on ao3, you wrote it! I'd appreciate it if you link either this blog or my ao3 (also called fuckingfinwions) as inspiring it, and also then I can stop by to leave a comment.
Fingon is so sweet, and yay for sticking up for Maedhros! Not actually consulting Maedhros as an equal partner, but maybe they'll get there in time. And Fingon obviously cares about what makes Maedhros happy, not just jealousy of other people using Maedhros.
Fingolfin doesn't believe that the wedding will actually take place, but I have faith in them! In other timelines Fingon is known for his faithfulness, and he's not going to drop Maedhros once he's made up his mind to keep him. And Maedhros is extremely devoted to Fingon, he's definitely going to be trying to make this engagement work. Maedhros isn't stupid either; he doesn't know how a prince is supposed to behave but he can learn, and if that's what his master fiance wants from him, he'll dedicate just as much energy as he does to any of Fingon's other orders.
(Also, was Fingolfin literally about to get a blowjob from Maedhros when Fingon "proposed"? Am I reading the "crease in his robes" and "untangling his fingers from Maedhros' curls" right? Because that sure is some timing on Fingon's part!)
#other people's fanfic#fanfic of my fanfic#❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️#😍 rolling around and cuddling this#I am literally sitting here with a big grin I love this so much

oh my god imagine if the og novel in fool of a prince was a game so the players are hella confused why the cast are suddenly acting weird.
or, fool of a prince is a game and you're playing as a bg character who sees what is happening. or you're playing as niren himself.
-> a DLC comes out and it's about what happened before the main game's plot happened, before you transmigrated as niren. and there is a mini game about going through and sorting the courting gifts you had received.
-> you notice a cloak that is weirdly familiar, a dark red one. as you examine it, you notice that it does look similar to the one that the game categorised as "Elliot's Precious Items" and then you— oh my god, is that the menu book?
-> of course you recognised what it is, it's the book that is used as the menu/options UI. every single player of this game has memorised what it looks like. as you flip through the book, you notice that each page is painstakingly unique. every page has its own little pattern and/or notes in the margins, the notebook's spine and cover being etched, what seems to be, by hand.
-> is this a special item? you wonder. so you scour the forums, and you notice that every DLC buyer has started a forum thread about it.
-> and then, you notice a comment.
-> this looks eerily similar to the items a merchant npc sells in the town market near the slums. it says, a screenshot of their run alongside it. you zoom in and, huh. it sure does.
-> however, it isn't figured out until the game's fifth anniversary. when the surprise patch launched, it was shown that, post-game, niren and elliot had met an admirer that the players were not shown about.
background info: it was more like a visual novel game where they were not shown every single aspect of niren's life post-isekai. i imagine that some devs kolbie would hide all of the courting stuff to be left in the novel and/or manhwa.
!!!!! MAN now you've got me wanting to make a visual novel 😭😭😭 Also how fun!! Until you, the player, realize how heartbreaking it is 💀💀💀 Still it would be super interesting to have WM haunt the narrative like that. Having easter eggs that seem relatively harmless until you get that punch in the gut 🙈🙈

At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
#I have a bit of a problem with giving everyone the same speech patterns but on god I try#Bc genuinely. This is the no. 1 most important thing while writing fanfic#If you can make a character sound like they would say that it doesn't matter if they actually would#My posts#Writing wise

A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.
My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.
My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.
This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.
Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.
I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.
So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.

being someone who's passionate about their interests when you're a horror fan really is a special layer of hell because every interaction you have with another person where the conversation turns to your hobbies and personal entertainments is a trial where if you show too much unrepentant glee at getting an opportunity to talk about your preferred subject you get to watch them mentally move you onto their list of untrustworthy individuals to avoid in the future in real time
#🐉#yesterday at work my new coworker asked me about my writing (the original stuff as well as fanfic lol) and when i told her it was mostly#horror flavoured she barely restrained herself from making a disgusted face. HELP lol!

white moonlight au!
scene below:
[ “Hey! Peony! Do you have any more of those squash?” A male voice calls out, his free hand waving while his occupied hand covers the bundled up baby even more. Peony, previously called Gladiolus by the street kids, waves back as he opens his designated squash box.
“Yeah, for the baby, right? Make sure to barter some herbs just in case you or yours get sick. The children and I have a bad feeling that this winter will be a long one,” He suggests, taking the offered fabric and putting in the squash, along with several other foodstuffs.
“Oh sh— shoot, really? I’ll go tell the missus after I drop off the produce.” The man seems to be wary, though he calms down soon after when the baby starts fussing at the anxiety she seems to feel from her father, and coos at his youngest daughter. “Shh, Papa isn’t upset, don’t start crying on me now.”
Peony chuckles and hands over the bundle of items to the older man, wiggling a finger at the baby before they leave his stall.
—! A hand abruptly intercepts a striking one, holding the offending wrist in his palm. He lets out a delighted laugh at the man he sees, pulling the other into a hug.
“Hi! Did you deliver the goods? How were your lesso—?” “— Not now! The Chel girl you were talking about is visiting the town…!” A sharp whisper cuts him off, the words causing him to slightly tense up.
“Shit, seriously?” Peony swears as he starts packing up his belongings, gesturing for the hidden nearby street urchins to come to the booth.
“What’s it, witchman?” The older of the pair asks, apprehensive as he watches the forest witch acting anxious for the first time ever. His bright red hair is already dirty by the dirt he had rubbed into it that morning, not wanting to attract attention, and his green eyes are warily looking around for any dangers.
“Y’know how to sell and watch over the booth, right? Make sure that everythin’ that ain’t sold are handed out to the orphanages and others like usual, yeah?” Peony confirms, his manner of speaking making the urchins further tense up and the younger of the two clutching the elder’s dirty tunic.
The older one scoffs, making his body relax as he watches the seamster finish packing everything of his into his bag. “‘Course we will, we’re not stupid, y’know.”
“Good,” He nods with relief in his voice as he swiftly removes any traces of him from the booth. “Be on the lookout for the people I told you all about, yes? I want a report tonight when you come home, hm?”
The red haired teen nods, jerky with nerves and sharp eyes looking around with caution. Peony feels his breath catch for a moment as the bright red reminds him of his love, Elliot, before the tug on his wrist by his noble ally shakes him out of the moment and he meets the panicked blue eyes of his friend.
“Let’s go before your prince, knight, and the witch notices you!” The noble’s son hisses at him, and leads them out of the market area. Peony laughs nervously and changes their hand’s position so that they’re now entangled.
“Calling her a witch is an insult to my name, Caerwyn,” He responds quietly, quickly overtaking the noble so that he’s the one leading them to his quaint home.
“Ugh! Just— just shut up! I can’t have you missing before you finish Amber’s debutante’s dress,” Caerwyn argues back, schooling his expression so that no one takes note of their strange running away.
“Oh! Yes, I’ve finished making the prototype for her dress and accompanying accessories.” Peony sighs happily at the reminder of his favourite project at that moment, and squeezes the hand that he is holding. “Also, your parents truly do not mind us being friends?”
“Yourself being the only person to have found a cure for my father’s illness has granted you the honour of being our family’s ally.” Caerwyn rolls his eyes as his ears slightly turn red and lets out a breath of relief once they are deep into the forest. “Truly, I do not know how you are able to navigate through this maze of a forest.”
“That is because you are a city boy, Caerwyn. I grow up and sustain myself in this forest,” He remarks cheekily, catching the noble when he trips on a tree root, “If I did not know my way around the forest, I would have found myself eaten by the beasts that call this forest their home.”
Peony looks back and grins at his friend, the sunlight causing his eyes to shine a beautiful amber. “Anyway, did the Prince and his knight receive my gift? Did they like it?”
Caerwyn nods, his ears now a recognisable red. “Yes, Amaryllis, they received it. I saw the knight wearing the coat you had made him three days ago.”
The commoner beams, a giggle slipping out of him as his expression becomes lovesick. The noble shoves down the rising jealousy, reminding himself that he knew what he was getting into when Amaryllis started requesting him several years ago. ]
scene: introduces peony and amaryllis, peony to the common citizens when he is selling his harvests and amaryllis to his nobler clients.
settings: this is when chel first started going to the academy, hc that she visits the town to "spread her blessings as per her duty as a saint". mid-autumn, caerwyn and amber (ambrosia) are part of a lower noble family -> how wm can get his courting gifts sent to niren and elliot. this is the start of wm lessening the public information of himself, led by the street urchins making up more and more names for him.
thoughts? i'm having too much fun, really. this is so self-indulgent. niren and elliot haunting the narrative will always make me laugh, wm is always thinking of his beloveds, forever and always.
No thoughts, I'm just sitting back eating popcorn and enjoying the story!! The careful thought and detail you put into everything is *chef's kiss* Also love the easy comaraderie of WM and everyone else. Him being lovesick over Elliot and Niren is so sweet, too!! Ahh I'm just enjoying the ride honestly 💕
