Rec #73: Earthly Companion - allthestrangecreatures Fandom: Doctor Who Rating: T Pairing: Rose Tyler/The (11th) Doctor, background Jenny Flint/Madame Vastra Word count: 33,502 (16 chapters) Summary (copied from fic): Following the departure of Amy and Rory Pond, the Doctor's grief compels him to make a terribly irrational decision: use the Chameleon Arch to become human, and forget the pain of all that he's lost. It's been decades since Rose Tyler discovered that she can't age. Through the power of Bad Wolf, she finds herself torn through the void, and pulled back to her original universe. She lands in Victorian London, picks up a job as a governess, and befriends a local recluse named Matthew Pond. He's a bit odd and far too young, but she can't help but feel drawn to him. Other notes: remember how heartbreakingly the Tenth Doctor's time as John Smith came to an end? all aboard the angst train woop woop (but it does end happily, it just takes some pain to get there)

thought ‘what if the vintage skins were more in line with actual 1930’s cartoons design sensibilities’ and promptly went mental. plus a bonus two-tone dandy ! since he’s not playable and all

so some things i learned as i was doing this:

-solo cups were not invented until the 70s, so scraps has a tin can as part of her tail instead

-hoodies WERE invented in the 30s but were generally worn by warehouse workers bc of the cold. they didn’t get worn by the general public until the 70s, so toodles and cosmo are Not wearing them

-leg warmers were invented in the 40s but also didn’t get popular until the 70s so glisten’s legs get to be naked. sad !

-GASHAPONS WEREN’T INVENTED UNTIL THE 60s. GIGI SHOULDN’T EVEN EXIST HERE. BUT I DIDN’T FIND THAT OUT UNTIL I WAS DONE DRAWING ALL THIS. OOPS !!!

other than that it was just a lot of ‘put gloves and/or shoes and/or pants on them. sometimes noses’

The Doctor: Time Lords always know each other, I’d recognise the Master on sight, anywhere. The Master, wearing a flashing sign which says ‘I’m the Master’ whilst beating out the rhythm of his insanity on a drum as a marching band he’s hired wave red flags and sing a song he’s composed, entitled ‘The Guy On The Drums Is The Master’: Hi. The Doctor: Wow, a new human being who I’ve never met before! I’ve got a good feeling about you, because you seem like a trustworthy person who definitely won’t betray me!

People are criticising Rogue’s inability to improvise but like, if I were dancing with Ncuti Gatwa and he started yelling at me for not commiting to him, my first instincts would be to freeze and propose too. Which as a lesbian is saying something!

things i love about the new doctor who episode -the doctor commenting on rogue's brooding technique -the doctor finding out that rogue got his name from dnd ->rogue saying "roll for insight" when the doctor asks about it -the doctor calling ruby his best friend -rogue not knowing about homophobia -libertango by astor piazzolla playing while rogue and the doctor dance -the doctor telling rogue to "say anything" when they're making a scene and rogue GETS DOWN ON ONE KNEE AND PROPOSES -the doctor not realizing that ruby's telling the truth at first when she says that she's ACTUALLY ruby and her apologizing for acting -the doctor shaking his head when rogue asks if he could sacrifice the world for ruby -rogue saying "find me" to the doctor right before he gets transferred off -the doctor instantly trying to ignore his loss but ruby says he doesnt have to do that and they hug -the doctor keeping the ring rogue gave to him and putting it on his pinky
