Sparky the Robot costume Test

Last night I sorta just posted a picture and ran, but here’s a more in depth post!

Last night, I did a costume and makeup test for my fanbot Sparky! I tried doing the makeup for the first time ever and it was a bit messy but I had fun! I didn’t have purple makeup so I used the blue makeup my mom is going to use for her walter worker costume. I also don’t have any sponges so I had to use paintbrushes for everything.

The vest is missing a button, my gloves are too big, my wig needs a bit of maintenance since I just got it, I wasn’t sure what I was doing with my eyebrows the whole time, and on top of that I have a skirt dilemma.

One skirt is shorter and fits on me well, (if a little tight) and has no unnecessary details aside from fake pockets. The other skirt is longer, has more fabric, has a texture I enjoy and quite deep pockets but it is too loose around my waist to the point where I worry it’s going to fall off, and it’s got the buttons down the middle that I’m not sure I’m in love with.

I also messed around and took some photos with my favorite purple coat to see if that looked good with the outfit.

Eagle eyed viewers will notice a Mechanisms pin on my sleeve; I want to get a Steam Powered Giraffe pin for my other sleeve if I do end up going with the coat look. If I do, I will have to decide if I want to put the switch under or over the coat.

Now for a more in-depth view of what I did for my makeup, I took photos of myself without the wig in the way. It looks a lot messier, so be warned

I will probably be more thorough when I am able to get contacts but as it is I was just trying to get a feel for what I could do and what I would want my makeup to look like.

I LOVE steam powered GIRAFFE!! I will NEVER shut up about it. Everytime I listen to another one of their songs I’m LIKE GODDAMN. PUNCHING AIR. spg is who I wanna be when I grow up.

So for me this was a big thing. My first bot was a mishmash of the three main bots, who slowly got refined to her own look. The next was overambitious, and the next was made to be a companion to the second

For me, my creative process for cosplay/bots is just sitting in my bathroom and messing around with facepaint until I like the general vibe. Over time, the designs get refined and cleaned up

It's best to let go of the worry of being too close or even too far from the Spg robots. Even if they are very very similar, color has a big impact. Try flipping where markings are, the thickness of the lines, the colors you use. If you want patterns but can't decide/come up with any, look online for patterned fabric and use it as inspo

No matter what, don't stress! It's probably gonna be a little messy at first but that's okay!

Basically; fuck around and find out! Try organic shapes, geometrics, florals, mix and match wherever! Just enjoy your silly little robots and robot adjacent goofs

Steamboi Chip makes a return, but not in the way you’d expect…

Meet Broken!Chip, also known as Snap. He’s basically the edgy alter-ego that he was programmed to go by when he was stolen by the Beciles then stolen by an anonymous figure who almost completely deleted Chip’s former self. When he was found and repaired, he underwent severe transformations and eventually functioned well enough to live on his own, but Snap was still in there in the depths of his memory banks. After some…troubles, Snap’s mind was separated from Chip’s and put into a duplicate bot, who has since become a recluse and stays away from everyone else in Walter Manor. Snap’s only friend is a small Ghost Rider Tsumtsum, gifted to him on his and Chip’s joint birthday by Data, seeing him as a brother too.

Daily update (except it's only today).

I went thrift shopping and got most of the outfit I wanted to cosplay my fanbot, Voicebox!

And I also got my nails done! I got gel nails so that I couldn't rip them off or bite my nails. I got them in Rabbit's hair colors, yay!

Sparky MK II costume photos!

At 10 pm last night I took another stab at my Sparky the robot costume! This time I had purple makeup for the details, I made an attempt to block my eyebrows, and I used a makeup sponge to blend the white facepaint a bit

I also tried out a few extra things for the outfit including goggles on the hat, goggles around my neck, and a pocket square that is actually the Spine boat but refolded to the last step before it becomes a boat

And I also did this!

There are two more photos that I’m going to wait three or four days to post, but you can also have this as a bonus: when the fun ends

So, in the light of the 13 year anniversary of Steam Powered Giraffe, I decided to share a picture that was taken back in 2018, at Weekend at the Asylum steampunk festival. Last year I shared some pictures I took during the concert that evening, but this picture was taken during the day, at the photo op. I don’t believe that I’ve ever shared it before, but I just felt like it was the right time.

I don’t know if I’ll ever meet the band again, but I’ve met them 3 times by now, and this was definitely one of the highlights, though the band was absolutely lovely every time I met them. And as an added bonus, I’ll share the pictures I had taken with David in my The Spine cosplay, because, you know.... That was kind of mandatory, right?
