So for me this was a big thing. My first bot was a mishmash of the three main bots, who slowly got refined to her own look. The next was overambitious, and the next was made to be a companion to the second
For me, my creative process for cosplay/bots is just sitting in my bathroom and messing around with facepaint until I like the general vibe. Over time, the designs get refined and cleaned up
It's best to let go of the worry of being too close or even too far from the Spg robots. Even if they are very very similar, color has a big impact. Try flipping where markings are, the thickness of the lines, the colors you use. If you want patterns but can't decide/come up with any, look online for patterned fabric and use it as inspo
No matter what, don't stress! It's probably gonna be a little messy at first but that's okay!

Basically; fuck around and find out! Try organic shapes, geometrics, florals, mix and match wherever! Just enjoy your silly little robots and robot adjacent goofs
