I need fanfics where SoSu is replaced with companions.

Like MacCready went to get the cure for his son, but when he got home, Duncan was completely gone, and whoever he left them with tells him Duncan just vanished into thin air.

Or Piper. Nat is missing and she's freaking out because she has a gut feeling it was actually the Institute, which would make her grudge against McDonough even more impactful.

Or maybe, even Jun and Marcy Long refusing to give up finding where their son is. Two dedicated parents willing to go to the ends of the earth to find their son.

Of course that'd have to give the Institute a reason to kidnap the kid. And would Sole still have seen their spouse get shot, their baby taken, and Shaun become leader? Or will it be someone else?

And what would any of these characters do in their place? How would they get to the Institute? Act with the Railroad? How would they find out about the teleportation? Would Kellogg still have been the one to affect them?

Commonwealth Portraits 1

Jun Long

"Some days are harder than others, but even the hard days get easier than the one before."

Starting a Commonwealth portrait series to anchor myself in something creative. I've been dealing with a lot of depression lately and have felt cut off from community and making art. So here is Jun Long - a character frequently passed over because he and Marcy mourn their child in ways that players seem to find annoying or inconvenient. I've seen mods that seek to fix one or both of them, but I think they're a realistic representation of loss and moving on. It can be difficult to put on a brave face - and why should they, to make others happy? To compartmentalize and partition their worst moments away for the player, when they just made it back from Quincy? People don't go through hard times to inconvenience others - let alone poor Jun; barely able to string together a sentence when you meet him in Concord, reeling from the loss of his child. However, later on in the game, if you cross paths with him in Sanctuary, he will sometimes give an indication he's picking up the pieces - along with the slightest smile you ever did see.

Fallout 4's testing me. I had enough of Marcy after 3 playthroughs during my trophy grind, so I decided to assign her to a pillory.

She refuses to go into the pillory.

I think the Longs broke up in my playthrough. When I originally rebuilt Sanctuary, I gave them a house and assigned them each to a bed there. But I just recently noticed that Marcy has taken up sleeping in a bed in a completely different house down the road.

Listen Oliver Swanick is funny and all but I think it's kinda weird that the game that explicitly says "the cycle of violence continues on unless you actively refuse to fight it" has a huge meme about instantly killing a guy who is delirious from barely surviving a massacre.

not trying to instigate anything, buuuuuuuuuut... if marcy long was male and jun long was female, i feel like they wouldn't receive as much hate

Currently thinking about how Marcy or Jun Long would comfort/talk to either m! Or f!sole survivor after blowing up the insititue and losing shaun. (Lets pretend synth shaun dont exist in this scenario)

Sole is absolutely broken. Every thing theyve done, everything they fought for, was to FIND shaun, and get him back. Then they had to deal with the horrifying truth that Shaun is now much, much older than previously believed, and also the leader of a much feared faction that has commited atrocities to the Commonwealth. They had to then go against their son for the good of the commonwealth (or synths, or brotherhood, depending on what ending, but Im leaning towards the minutemen im this scenario). Your final words with him were ones of bitterness, even if you apologize and tell him you love him he still responds with disgust, wanting nothing to do with you in his last moments.

Now the insitute is gone, blown to smithereens, Shaun is dead, the final tie to soles old life- their only child, that they fought so hard to get back. Theyre practically inconsolable, not Nick, or romanced partner, or close friends of sole can comfort them. Sole finds themself back in Sanctuary, in the babys room, that they havent brought themselves to touch even after learning Shaun was no longer a baby and no longer needed a crib, or a teddy, or a bottle.

In the case of a f!sole, she spends her time clutching onto Shauns old baby clothes, somehow having survived through time as much of soles other things did thanks to Codsworth. Refusing to leave the corner of the room she tucked herself into, to talk to anyone, as she sobs, because its the only thing she can do now. Mourning everything that was lost because before she didnt allow it- she couldnt, shaun was out there still she couldnt spare a moment to shed a tear cause it meant a moment wasted in finding him. Eventually Marcy finds her way in, not exactly berating sole, but telling her she needed to get up and move on. Everyone loses somebody, the world keeps turning. Thats when sole looks at her, and Marcy sees that anger in her eyes- the same anger she still carries herself after Quincy and losing her son. She kneels down to sole, as they shared eye contact- and now mutual understandings of their losses- and she pulls sole into a hug. Sole sobs in her arms, but finally, when they cried so much they couldnt cry anymore, Marcy stands up, holding out her hand and helps sole up. They still had their grief, their anger, and sorrow. But they had work to do. To keep moving on. Because a mothers love never stops- even when the child to love is gone.

Day two out of the Vault: An early cold snap killed the gourd vines weeks ago, and the fruit rotted, leading to a breaking point for the already starving Marcy.
