I run a blog where I share paintings I like. For the past few months there’s been a certain type of grifter popping up in my feed using bots to share AI art with the name of a “painter” at the bottom. I’ve been slowly keeping track of these types and filtering them from my feed and I just thought I’d name and shame them here so you can do the same.
Fake painters spamming tumblr with fake paintings
kaoru yamada
jeff stanford
juan brufal
inge schuster
seji tomoda
thiemo tausendfarben
Pass this list on, help block their definitionally derivative “art” help me add any more of these to my list of names to filter
Tumblr media
The problem I have with these isn’t even a philosophical one about wether or not AI images are art (although they aren’t) or an ethical one about how they are autogenerating the same image over to sell cheap prints to people who don’t know any better. (Although it is definitely unethical) My problem isn’t an economic one that they’re taking revenue away from working artists. (Although they definitely are and I hate that too.)
No, my problem is just a simple aesthetic one. Their art sucks and I hate seeing it. I like looking at paintings because the more I look the more I see. With a real painting you get a first impression after a split second and then look deeper, the painting directs your attention around the page, you notice background details, brush strokes, you can see the story the painter was trying to tell, guess at their mood as you see how every little detail adds up, the more you look the more you see the humanity.
With AI it’s the opposite. It’s all first glance. (And some of these are legitimately nice on the first glance) but then the closer you look the less human it gets. The faces are all the same. you can’t tell if it’s an oil painting or a print or a photograph. Clothing details become background details, background details look impossible. Hair strands move like some lovecraftian monstrosity. Instead of brush strokes and ink blots it resolves to little bacterial strands of randomly generated noise. It’s not just bad art, it’s the opposite of art, the closer you look the more alien it becomes.
I hate it just because every time I see one it’s one less real painting I get to see so I’m blocking them all and I’m blocking any blog I see them on.

What kinda style do you think Nightmare would paint in? Like do you think he'd have something more classical? Maybe realism? old timey stuff? Or impressionism maybe, I feel like he'd enjoy painting outside
I wanna hear your thoughts on this!
Hm yes yes, I definitely have thoughts about this (<- failed their art exam and very quickly googled painting styles lol)
If I'm understanding what I've read right, I think he'd be into realism or impressionism, I can see him spending ages on lots of little details in a picture. I could definitely see him painting outside though! It's easier to just set up in a secluded area than get anyone to look normal while the king of negativity stares at them for a few hours lol
It kind of goes hand in hand with the idea that he documents aus as a hobby as well I guess, like maybe he tries to paint little scenes of certain aus that stick out to him or just to keep as reference in case anything happens to them. Maybe Horror has a little painting in his room of his snowdin to help when he gets homesick?
He definitely doesn't have several paintings hidden in a closet somewhere of his own au before the incident, with a big tall apple-filled tree and a little yellow flag around the trunk and two yellow and purple dots nearby that are probably just a mistake didn't mean to add those don't read into that
Also not that I read your tags on that post but imagine him trying to do a family portrait. First problem is none of them will sit still. Okay that's a lie Cross probably would stand completely still for hours he has royal guard training, but the others are definitely not. I give it 10 minutes at most before Killer's annoying Dust into trying to kill him, Horror probably forgets what they're doing after an hour and starts walking off and has to be called back. At the end of it all he miraculously has a painting but immediately gets hit with "hey wait this is just us!! why aren't you in it? D:" as if he was supposed to go stand behind them and paint himself somehow??
About a week after he hangs it up, he finds somebody has drawn a little cartoonish version of him and taped it onto the painting like he was in it too and he pretends it doesn't make him as happy as it does.

Thomas Hopkinson
Artist: Robert Feke (American, c. 1707-c. 1751)
Date: 1746
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC, United States
Artwork Description
Thomas Hopkinson wears a full-bottomed wig and a sword, and he stands before a balustrade and a grove of pruned cypresses. But these European props do not tell the whole story. Hopkinson was also an ambitious citizen of a new society interested in new discoveries. He studied law in England but carved out a career for himself in Philadelphia, where he attained the rank of judge and, when he was not in court, helped Benjamin Franklin in his experiments with electricity.

BOOK REVIEW: Betting On You - Lynn Painter
★★★★★ - 5 stars
"I had huge feelings for Charlie Sampson. Shit."
Tumblr media
10 Things I Hate About You and She's All That meet the Taylor Swift infused, hopelessly romantic daydreams of Lynn Painter in her latest novel Betting On You. Lovers of all things romance should be called to attention to worship this book, especially those who are fans of Rory and Jess from Gilmore Girls. An amalgamation of enemies to lovers, fake dating and grumpy x sunshine, Betting On You tells the story of two heartbroken, socially awkward teenagers. When sarcastic and cynical Charlie Sampson and logical but romantic Bailey Mitchell meet each other at the airport they immediately despise each other. Yet years later, with friendships and new jobs on the line, Bailey and Charlie meet again, make a life-changing bet, and slowly begin to fall for each other. This is an extremely entertaining and furiously funny read (especially the banter between Bailey and Charlie). As with every Lynn Painter novel, it's full of cats and pop-culture references (from Taylor Swift to When Harry Met Sally to Angelina Jolie). Written in first person and with a dual point of view, Painter allows the reader to experience events through the eyes of both Bailey and Charlie. It makes it so that parts of the novel can completely tear at your heartstrings and make you want to cry enough tears to fill a bathtub - the pain of miscommunication stings more than usual. It's also a heartfelt and important discussion of the effects of divorce on children and teenagers, with both Bailey and Charlie having complicated family circumstances and emotional distress as a result of being deemed 'custody kids', making it an extremely important book for those who can relate to their family issues. Even so, Betting On You remains absolutely adorable until the last page and is guaranteed to have you wistfully dreaming of a love like Bailey and Charlie's.
