Fairy Tale
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I discovered this old game board from days long gone in a dusty corner of an attic. It's all too fitting that it takes up a fairy tale theme and embeds it in a beautifully drawn collage for a dice game.
It probably originated in the former GDR, or even earlier. Only the game board is still there and I have preserved it with the VBR and thus preserved it for the world.
The principle of the game is very simple: each player takes a turn and rolls the dice. They move their figure as many spaces as the dice shows eyes. If he reaches a special square marked by a circle, he reads the instructions on the side of the board out loud and then carries them out.
These short texts are lovingly narrated in the form of a story, always fit in thematically with the fairy tale depicted and usually move the player's figure to other spaces on the board, have them roll the dice again or sit out a round. There are a total of 100 squares and the winner is the one who reaches the last square and leads the princess, or the prince, home.
The figures and the environment were of course not there, I added them purely for the digital version to make it a bit more attractive.
Lord of the Boards can download the complete game here.
Master of Dices preserve the texture of the game board.

Making masks & shifting forms
Tumblr media
In your Wolf form, you have access to the benefits of your beastly Attributes, can sing magical Spellsongs, and can resist harm with your Resolve. In your Mortal form, you'll switch your Attributes, Spellsongs, and Resolve out for strong, flexible Mortal Powers that can turn the tide of any situation they're used in. Through character advancement, you can strengthen yourself as you see fit. Perhaps you favor one form over the other, or you may switch between them frequently. The choice is yours.
The Enchanted Forest
Tumblr media
As you explore this dense forest you'll meet the powerful and mysterious Queens and aid them, and their courts, through all manner of quests and favors. As a werewolf, you're uniquely gifted in traversing the forest, capable of making it to every edge of the woods, meaning that only you can learn its deepest secrets.

In another dream, they ended the game together. The blood-crowned king lowered his head, and offered his Hand anything he could wish for.
Cautiously, the knight of Dogwarts said, "I wish for a kingdom," and the king smiled.
"You already have this one."
Bolder now, the shield of Dogwarts said, "I wish for your heart," and the king laughed.
"You already have it."
Quietly, so very quietly, the hound of Dogwarts said, "I wish we could both win," and the king died.

I don't know what this aesthetic is, I've been calling it "grim-sparkle" or "wonderdark," but you know it when you see it. It's that combination of magical and gritty, beautiful and grotesque, hope and dread. The dark fairy tale vibe transcending fantasy.

"Now you know It's so much better to pretend There's something waiting for you here"
These two make me think of so many songs and my artistic brain noodle went "Oh yeah let's make a card design why not". This time the song is "Kill the Lights" by The Birthday Massacre.

I love you, media and music based on folklore, mythology, and old stories passed on from generation to generation. I love you, people who take these sorts of things “too seriously” and begin genuinely analysing what’s generally overlooked as a silly story. I love you, people who both romanticise these stories and point out the very real horror that lies in a lot of them. I love you, people who refuse to let the stories and folklore important to their culture fade away, even when for hundreds or even thousands of years people have attempted to erase their history and culture. I love you, people who reclaim their people’s stories and tell them from the mouths of those it originally belonged to. I love yo

Zelda 2 comic sneak peek
I took out my old full-length Zelda 2 comic draft and chose a segment to make a short comic out of. It's missing context from the whole grand narrative of the entire story, but I think it gets the point across.
There were a couple potentials, and I ended up choosing the scene where Link discovers that his blood is the key to awakening Ganon. It's the most well-known plot point of the game in the LOZ fandom in general, besides the Prince of Hyrule plot. Throughout the comic, Link gets attacked by various monsters during his quest. He thought Hyrule was incredibly dangerous for merchants and travelers, but found out that it was only him encountering monsters at a high rate, thus targeted (that is not discussed in this short comic). This disturbs him a lot. And this is the scene when he discovers why he's a target. It's more than the monsters seeking revenge.
At some point in the game, the player is made to travel towards south-western Hyrule and use the Hammer on dueling peaks to enter and get a magic potion. You specifically enter the peak that is originally Level 9 in Zelda 1. I found that to be very... interesting. And suspicious. Why did the developers think "Okay lets have Link go back to the traumatizing final boss place from the first game to retrieve an item :D" It's kinda epic honestly and it gave me the idea: For the full comic, I made it that Link follows rumors and travels down there in the hopes of finding the magic book containing the revive spell, which is game-changing for the rest of his journey. Being the adventurer that he is, Link takes the risk and goes there thinking the place is long-abandoned and that Ganon probably no longer exists. Except, that isn't the case. (Okay I must add, after the revelation, Link loses his adventurous spirit and gets very serious with his quest. No longer enjoys exploring, which is all this Link is about. He starts developing Big Fears. This eventually spawns Dark Link. I wish I could make the entire comic but I know I can't T-T I should probably finish up and polish the draft and post it online for whoever is interested in a deep dive, lore-intense Zelda 2 story reimagining.)
It's the first time I do a 10 page comic, so I'm going through a learning curve right now xD It's going to be experimental, but I hope you enjoy it still. Here are some WIP shots. Still a while before it's completed.

Fuck it, I need some serotonin. I was going to wait until next month, but my brain is too fried to edit anything anyway so here we are. Today's the day. That's right. Today is...
Fairy Day.
So, put on your tutus and glitter up those cheeks, because it's time for the new and improved:
A Fairy Tale is a 28,000 word visual novel about fairies finding love.

Who—if anyone—will win your hand?
Tumblr media
Featuring:
Five different romanceable characters.
An immersive experience with music, images, and sound effects.
Ability to choose your own character's name and gender.
A variety of different choices.
Scroll forward and back at any time.
Option to skip already read passages.
A save feature with multiple save slots.
Fairies, pirates, schemes, and whimsy.

I fascinated by the symbolism and imagery of the birds in the hunger games books. It fits the story very well and is actually very poetic.
Therefore, I would like to portray Katniss not only as a mockingjay symbol in a figurative sense of a bird, but also as an actual bird-like fantasy or even mythical creature, straight from a fairy tale. And it may not be a good old fairy tale, but children still need to hear it and learn the lesson.
"The Swan Princess"/ "Tsarevna-Lebed" by Mikhail Vrubel. 1900 and Katniss Everdeen as The Mockingjay

"Ascension to Godhood" that is not only at the cost of personhood like a price to pay, but purely the logical, inescapable consequence of godhood. The culmination of all your efforts to attain freedom into an existence that is devoid and has no use for the concept of freedom. Little is spoken of the agentivity of a plot device.
The martyrs and the ghosts haunting the narrative, the fairies and the monsters and the witches lurking at the end of the forest and the deus ex machina only written to wait for the hero to come and be awarded a quest or a curse or a choice or a boon.
You can't ever happen to it. The story either happens to you, or you become the story.
(This is a very old story.)
And of course, there is no other ending to the story.
