'That cannot work,' the young queen signed, frowning at her brothers. They were still human, but their quarter hour was almost up. Their movements were already beginning to become more bird-like and the colour of their hair getting closer and closer to raven feathers.

"Why not!" the boys cried in unison and their sister sternly put a finger to her lips.

They shut their mouths and she glanced into the cradle beside her. Her baby was still sleeping soundly, nothing amiss but the already fading mark on his little cheek where her mother-in-law had scratched him with her ring when she tried to steal him from the cradle. Not nearly as scratched as that dreaded woman had been herself after the ravens were done with her, though.

"Why not?" her youngest brother tried again, in a lower voice.k

'It is a curse,' she signed emphatically before resuming her work.

"Well, the curse didn't think you could learn to speak without making a sound," he argued. "So why couldn't it be tricked by detachable sleeves?"

His sister paused with her needle hovering above the many-petaled flower she was trying to stitch to the others. She bit her lip and shook her head.

"Why wouldn't it work!" her brothers urged her. "If you make the shirts so the sleeves can be taken off and put back on whenever we want, then surely we can decide to have wings whenever we want!"

They shifted restlessly from foot to foot, almost like the hopping of a bird and their sister glanced worriedly at the nearly night-dark sky outside the window.

"We want to be human again! But it would be so good to still be able to fly."

She looked at their eager, expectant faces and gave a doubtful nod. 'I will think about it.'

All three of them rushed her at once, hugging her or kissing her cheek, and then bowing quietly over the baby for a moment before rushing to the window. As the last, dim light of evening faded into night, so did their shapes shrink into three black ravens. They cawed their goodbyes and flew out of the window, leaving their sister to frown at her tiresome sewing.

It was not long before the door to the chamber opened and her husband appeared. His face was still pale, not yet recovered from the grief he felt over his mother's betrayal, but his eyes were as full of affection as ever.

"Had a good visit?" he asked quietly, looking fondly at his little son.

The young queen held out her hand and squeezed his for a moment before letting go to sign, with a great frown furrowing her brow:

'Do we have a royal wizard?'

The young king looked doubtful. "Yes, but he's never much use. I don't think he can actually do any magic. He just read a lot and goes on about the terms and conditions of blessings."

But to his surprise his wife's face lit up with approval and her pollen-stained fingers waved at him with renewed energy:

'Perfect!'

Laxus, Sting, and Lucy siblings au headcanons

I made this post about a modern AU where Laxus, Sting, and Lucy are siblings and wanted to expand a bit more on it, just for fun.

Laxus is the oldest; 23 and a university student (though he focuses much more on his garage band with his friends Freed, Evergreen, and Bickslow). Lucy is the middle child; 19, also a university student. Sting is the baby; 17, still in high school and very popular + captain of the soccer team.

Layla is their mother, but Laxus has a different father. Ivan was Layla’s first husband but they divorced after Ivan just left and never returned - Laxus was never really fond of him; he was mean to Layla and liked to hit Laxus as punishment - and Jude is her current husband. She had Sting and Lucy with Jude; they’re still married but he’s always busy running his company and is just a very hands-off dad. Laxus still likes him more than Ivan, but they don’t have that fatherly-son bond.

Filthy rich family that doesn’t like to show it. Jude tries to insist on living in a bigger house and buying more cars, but Layla prefers putting that money into trust funds or towards family vacations. The house is big enough that everyone has their own room, but that’s where the flashiness ends.

A lot of people assume Lucy gets princess treatment since she’s the only girl, but Laxus and Sting aren’t that partial. From a very young age, she was involved in their roughhousing and taunting - she’s an entirely different person around her brothers, and has been caught choking Sting for eating her leftovers one too many times.

Laxus and Sting love to mock Lucy, and they have no problem with wrestling with her when she’s being annoying, but Laxus has rocked the shit out of creepy men who catcall her, and Sting bullied the hell out of anyone who made fun of Lucy when they were still in school together.

All involved in some kind of fighting class: Laxus regularly boxes and even teaches a self-defense class for extra cash, Sting does karate and kendo (and also gymnastics but he doesn’t like to talk about it), and Lucy does taekwondo and has dabbled in archery. 

They’re all Mama’s boys/girls. Laxus is, like, 6’3 and still likes to rest his head in his mother’s lap while she plays with his hair after a bad day. Sting is the kind of son who just yaps and yaps about everything while Layla does household chores or runs errands. Lucy gets her princess treatment from her mother, as they often go on mother-daughter dates.

A very common argument is whose hair clogs the drain more. Lucy usually gets the fingers pointed at her, since she has the longest hair, but she adamantly insists that Sting “sheds” much more than she does.

Video games always cause arguments, but Just Dance and Mario Kart results in such warfare that Layla has had to lock the Wii/Switch in her bedroom closet several times. Sting is a huge cheater and Laxus always threatens to beat him up for it (one time he actually did), and Lucy almost always snips the win while her brothers were too busy arguing.

Laxus once told Lucy to “kill yourself” as a joke (and Lucy knew he was kidding) and Layla was so shocked she actually almost had a heart attack. Jude got the phone call his wife had collapsed, got the first flight back, and yelled at all three of his kids for so long he had to take a break to drink some water.

Potential boyfriends are not safe in the house. Either Layla is pestering them with questions and snacks or one of the Heartfilia siblings is openly teasing their sibling. Laxus almost never lets Freed inside the house because of how fast Sting and Lucy sink their claws into him.

Lucy starts dating Natsu; Laxus cannot stand him no matter how hard he tries, and Sting is actually obsessed with him. He knew Natsu just a smidge before Lucy and had a fat ass crush on him before he realized that his childhood friend (Rogue) is very pretty and very nice and overall his actual soulmate.

Despite Rogue being his soulmate - as Sting claims - Sting has actually… confessed. Laxus and Lucy flame him so hard for it that it could almost be categorized as harassment.

Laxus taught Sting and Lucy how to sneak out of the house and has helped them get back inside without Layla catching them so many times they basically owe him a college tuition.

I think I tried to do my spin on Goldie in this post, but now I have a tiny changes in her design! Mainly i changed ner hairstyle & made the prev clothes as an alternate option!

I have a concept of em in their casual clothes! ...they have a dozen outfit versions, this is not even funny-

Despite the fact that in teen years Sammy was the tallest even in non-human form...now he is the shortest one. Goldie & Peri are the same height, but her shoes make her taller than him. Irep is obv the tallest one-

they all split-up after graduation, and even if they all wanted- they wont find the time or desire to meet. If you wanna catch them all- trap them... Or pull a school-reunion card

Sammy cackled out-loud when heard abt Peri and Godparenting in one sentence. Stopped laughing when realised it was serious.

Goldie had opened to Sammy the world of skirts with poskets and he was not the same since.

Sammy:

Dude is in the middle of development of his food critic career. Never meet him while hes at work. Its like a meeting an entirely different person

oh and btw he is that one friend that has an immediate and drastic communication style-switch depending on the situation or friends he is with,. Often mirrors your behavior, so just be polite with him- he`ll be polite with you

Hanged out with Irep too much- developed a huge love for dark/achromatic clothing with small colorful accents

pockets in his skirts can be so big they can hold his Sparkle Stick without magic expancion. And Da Stick is like 50 cm/ 19`7 in long.

Goldie:

Goldie is a fairly great voice actor! ( i LOVED her voice as a kid so much you have no idea-)

One time teen Goldie (as a joke) participated in a human-world contest for a VA of a side-character in a game, but forgot abt the contest & never knew she won. If anyone told her- she would cry that she missed the opportunity to be popular even outside of the Fairy World

She has hair extentions, her actual hair are shoulder-lengh, and she sometimes dye the tips in pretty colors, for the events.

oh she LOVES pearls, even the uneven-looking ones. Has a lot of handmade pearl-bags. They`re small, but who needs a lot of stuff anyway?

Remember when Lucy told dimaria that "Natsu isn't much for teamwork". It makes me feel very normal. Just... when you combine it with how enthusiastically he wanted Lucy on his team and how he sulks when she doesn't accompany him on a job and how well he can work as a team when it's with her (and Happy) and how he keeps memorabilia of all their jobs together. Yeah.
