So, our graphic designer, who completely sucked, quit. Right before a big exhibit opening. I got stuck trying to do graphic design. The graphic designer makes waaaay more than me, but I wanted this exhibit to be successful. Did I get a thank you? No. Any hints of compensation? No. Did they immediately ask my supervisor afterwards if I could pick up the backlog of graphic design & do it? They did. Did they offer compensation. No.
You see, kids, hard work & stepping up gets you NOTHING but more work.
I told him absolutely not, unless they want to supplement my pay. I am hurting right now in the $$$ department. I absolutely refuse to continue to do work above my pay grade when they already refuse to pay me what people in my field make. They underpay me by $5 an hour already. Now they want me to do the work of someone that makes 60 grand on a 30 grand salary. Hilarious.
And if they decide to try it anyway...yeah, you are going to get what you pay for.
Also, it's not like I don't have other deadlines to meet. For MY position.

i suspect this number will only keep growing in the coming days/weeks, especially the longer and longer we go without any sort of response.
EDIT: its only been three hours and the number has already jumped to 206K dislikes.

Do you have more Moby Dick: Modern Translation chapters anywhere that certain interested parties (me and everyone with taste) could read?
In reference to this translation of Moby Dick into insufferable modern idiom, in which Ishmael is suddenly shown up in a startling light as a person we’ve actually met and knew well but didn’t really like:
I’m sorry, I haven’t written any more of that! After chapter 1’s mad rush of energy, the book tackles more tricky, boring and unfunny content, including passages that are just uncomfortably problematic in any time; and, like, entire chapters about listening to a church sermon.
A line translation (and that is mostly a very faithful line translation! The only thing I regret not doing was perfectly capturing the fart joke!) apparently has a lot of educational value, and helps to reframe the whole novel. That’s worthy work! But i simply wouldn’t want to do a line translation on the next few chapters. My brain is picking daisies instead, already. I would say: “sorry, I’m abridging this for my own mental health. You’re eligible for a free refund.” In which case the educational value is negligible (you can just read the plot summary online. There’s a really big whale in it.)
Anyone else who wants to take a stab at it (FROM HELL’S HEART) would be welcome and I’ll gladly promote your efforts. It’s just. I am going

Watcher fans sure are entitled and a little insane, ngl. "No one is going to sign up for your service! We're all poor! You've made the worst decision, and you'll be back in no time!" Saying this directly to the creators really reminds you of how low the respect for people you don't personally know has gone. I miss the forth wall between creator and audience.
I get and fully understand not having the money to support them, but... Watcher does have fans with money. A lot of them actually. They have merch sales. Their live tour sells out most venues. They have thousands of supporters on Patreon, where the cheapest tier is $5. They're able to gauge the rough finances of their staunchest supporters; that's how they landed on the subscription price. Yes, this move will reduce their viewership in sheer numbers, but to say all of their fans are broke and none will follow/support is factually incorrect.
It may not be a decision everyone agrees with, but severing the limitations of advertisers and youtube in favor of artistic freedom is a good thing. Yes, even if it comes with a loss of revenue. They understand that risk.
Also, I'm begging people to stop treating this like "another Netflix" or something and instead look at it as, "I am supporting a creator I like, similar to Patreon." They literally said in the video that they don't care if you share accounts. Get five friends, and you'll pay $1/mo.
I hate feeling compelled to rant in favor of their decision because I have my own reservations about whether it's the best move. However, I know it's not a choice they made lightly, and I like to think they understand that they'll need to branch out like crazy to entice subscribers.

So after seeing this tweet from 4-ish hours ago I had a think. If I understand this correctly...
If this indicates they are indeed going on strike, word-of-mouth will become the only means of promotion for already completed works being released or awaiting a scheduled release caught in this struggle. No actors on red carpet at premieres, no promo junkets with fan service, or interviews about projects so many have worked so hard to create. Actors will be committed to no work of any kind(including promos) moving forward from the stoppage of a strike.
Word-of-mouth by the public will become make or break for the duration for these unlucky works in the interim.
Please, let us all pay attention and support these unions in seeking better working conditions and commensurate pay by following their lead. Whatever that lead is, including supporting works already produced.

Support the Red Cup Rebellion by striking Starbucks workers.
Red Cup Day (November 16th in 2023) is the busiest day of the year at Starbucks. Unionized workers have chosen Thursday to walk out selectively in support of better pay and working conditions.
What workers are demanding...
Workers are calling on the company to turn off mobile ordering on high-volume promotion days, improve staffing and scheduling issues, and bargain with the union. “I feel like customers don’t know to the full extent how hard the promotional days can be. It’s super exciting and fun for our customers to have these new cups, new drinks and all these exclusive things, but our management does not staff us correctly,” said Bruce Halstead, a barista at a Starbucks roastery in Seattle, Washington. “Partners will run themselves ragged having to do the job of three people sometimes because the demand of customers is a lot more. Partners will leave their shifts in tears, they will injure themselves just trying to keep up with the demand of the cups and the drinks. We just want to bring awareness to this.”
If you'd like to actively help the union on Thursday check the list of stores with strike actions.
Otherwise, simply don't visit Starbucks on Thursday November 16th or engage in any Starbucks transactions online on that day.
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS ON THURSDAY NOVEMBER 16th.
Union Strong!

SAG-AFTRA is officially set to join the WGA in going on strike. No filming, premiere attendence or other promotion of any kind allowed.
I hope to see nothing but support for this decision.

BLU STORY TIME:
Just came back from volunteering at my ✨local fair✨ (I occasionally do volunteer work in my free time), I got a cool name tag and everything lol. I met some super cool people! :D
My whole job was to work a booth that was doing bids, they had these long tables that stretched vertically, so my job was to engage with folks and make sure no kids tried to pull a fast one and run off with the goods lmaoo.
It spanned from stuff like pots and pans, toys, books, paintings, comics etc. All from people who wanted to donate, it was super cool!
Anyways, my shift was just over roughly 2 hours. I stood around in my boot which was uber fun hsjshsj, but it actually wasn't that bad. People would come in waves, so it was either PACKED or empty.
This kid comes up to me, he has to be around 10. He askes how the bidding works and I just smiled and gave him the run down-- (you basically has to write your name, phone number and write a price higher than the last bidder.) He stares me dead in the eyes and goes..
"SO IT'S LIKE EBAY?!"
and I lost my shit. Kid tf are u doing on e b a y???
.
.
Another thing that would happen was the occasional theft, AKA 6 or 7 year old's. The hardest and meanest of crime lords hsjshsj.
One of them was trying to steal hot wheels from a bag, I just leaned over and asked her if she was gonna bid for that. She started crying and ran away LMAO.
Another kid tried to steal a dinosaur?? By just ripping it outta the box?? IDK??? I just kinda took it from him, not like he has a strong grip on it pfft. He froze and started walking away. I told him I'd keep it safe if he wanted to ask his parents if he could buy it, made him feel a bit better but I let him know if he tries that again its game over xD.
Got some ice cream after so I'd say I had a good time!! xD
