#their first impression of Thor and Peter kills me every time

you know what's so funny about chapter 18? Peter's motivation for beating Loki's ass. it's pretty much entirely for Thor at this point, right? because he saw what he did to Thor and knows how important this is for him. and Peter's mainly thinking "Well, sometimes I get a little insecure, but at the end of the day I am aware of what I made Spider-Man for, and so are the Avengers. so I'm a little ticked off that they didn't tell me everything about Loki but I'm sure it was for a good reason and they were keeping in mind that I've never really wanted to do some of the world saving that they do."
and then he finds out why they didn't tell him about Loki and he's like "okay actually i am mad now" (which yes this is part of the reason they didn't tell him, but there's another bigger reason that will outshine this reason)
#thor is terrified of peter btw#I know it doesn't seem like it#because they have sibling energy#but like when this comes out thor is gonna be shaking in his boots#peter staring at him like “what?” and thor is just#“😅 stark told me not to” and he's backing away slowly#doesn't work thor will have to pay for his crimes#keep in mind that this does happen in front of quite a few of the Justice League members#their first impression of Thor and Peter kills me every time#ao3 fanfic#leap of faith ao3#leap of faith catch me if you can#peter parker#peter parker in gotham#thor odinson#thor: TO BE FAIR THE LAST TIME WE TOLD YOU SOMETHING LIKE THAT-#peter: im gonna kick YOUR ass too

A brown haired boy walked in and MJ was struck for a second with a sense of recognition and a deep longing. But just as quickly as it came, it was gone. “Can I help you?” she asked, hoping the annoyance that she felt throughout the day wasn’t obvious in her voice.
“Hi, um, My name is Peter Parker. Spider-Man Read-Through 036: Thanos - The Final Threat (AV Ann 7, MTIO Ann 2)
MASTERPOST
As promised last time, Thanos is here, ready to smash some heroes!
And the Avengers are ready to smash him back!
This batch thoroughly impressed me, I must say.
Adam Warlock is here, and he's determined to fight Thanos, the Mad Titan. He asks the Avengers to help.
He explains that Thanos fell in love with Death and killed a lot of people, including his own mother, which is how you know he's the real deal.
Suddenly, Spider-Man!
There you go.
Back to our regular scheduling!
Thanos has been vanquished before, but he's back, and pissed off since Death abandoned him. So he got all 6 cosmic stones and fused them into a giant one.
Oh wow, we're really speedrunning Infinity War, huh!
Thanos plans to get Death back by destroying every star in the universe, which is completely batshit but also, I kind of love it. Love truly knows no bounds.
While Warlock is catching up everybody on who did what, Pip the Troll (don't ask me who that is) arrives on Sanctuary II and is surprised by Thanos.
Our heroes depart, and each one of them has a moment to collect their thoughts and fears, and it's remarkably well-written.
I didn't expect to actually be invested, but it reminds of the last issue of the Dark Phoenix saga in how grandiose it feels.
Suddenly...!
It's really impressive, actually.
Thor and Iron Man are deployed, and IM surmises that he can take care of the smaller ships, given how powerful Thor is...
And he would be right. How cool!
This is also really cool!
And this immediately what follows. The action sequence is really good, each Avenger has time to shine and it's overall well paced.
Unfortunately for Warlock, it turns out Thanos left his cherished Pip dead just for him to find on the vessel.
Warlock and Mar-Vell go to Thanos's ship first, they're quickly beaten, but then...
Damn, it's really a good issue.
Iron Man shatters the big gem. Thanos is quite enraged and disappears.
I was asking myself the same question, but you know what, the middle panel is incredibly raw and I don't need justification for that.
What I figure is that it's some sort of reincarnation thing à la Dax from DS9.
The dead hero awakens in the Soul Gem, with Gamora and Pip! Aww.
This is such a nice ending, I really love it! I'm sorry for all the pics, but it really was a stellar issue.
In the following issue, Peter is called in his dreams by Avenger Moon-Dragon, who makes him watch Infinity War and Endgame in 4K Ultra HD before DVDs even existed.
Except the happy end isn't quite there yet.
I gladly objectify the waking man. Well, he's already an object, but I'm looking respectfully.
In space, some stars discuss how it's totally fate that Peter and Ben Grimm aka The Thing fight together to save the universe. Huh-huh.
Spidey decides that he's going to need help, and naturally comes to the Fantastic Four. There, he finds Ben who just so happens to have a space shuttle ready for take off. And off they go!
I like how depressed Peter is. We rarely see him so quiet. It helps to convey the gravity of the situation.
The two heroes aren't doing too bad, but they eventually get knocked out.
Ooooooooh! Oh :( Wasn't it enough to give him peace?
Good for you, Spidey.
However, he changes his minds and successfully frees the Avengers, which I like because it's more of a Spidey thing. I couldn't see him quite fighting Thanos head-on.
Ah, I see again some of the brilliance of the previous issue.
Spidey successfully frees Adam Warlock from the globe that contained him, and the latter hero quickly annihilates Thanos. His crew surrenders immediately.
Aww.
Damn was that a great double issue. I largely preferred the first one, but the second one was fun too, wow.

how ab a headcanon where the avengers all take a trip either to disney world or on a disney cruise? i’m a whore for the idea of everyone, especially peter and y/n, just acting like kids again
pairing: peter parker x avenger!reader
a/n: i like this prompt so much!! i’ve never been to disneyland, but i hope this is accurate enough lol. i also turned this into a vlog bc someone had to record this mess and since it can’t be me, i’m giving filming privileges to bruce
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
the avengers in disneyland
everyone is very very excited and the days before they leave pass in a flurry of excitement, but peter has never been to disneyland, so he’s THRILLED beyond means
peter’s jumping up and down while everyone’s loading the van and he keeps asking them if they’re ready for this “life-changing field trip?????”
sam is genuinely afraid that if peter jumps any higher he will bounce off earth, so he grabs peter by the middle and carries him horizontally into the car
steve gave a whole lecture on not getting lost the day before and since tony couldn’t resist it, he is dressed head to toe in neon yellow and grinning cockily
nat steps into the van, sees him, and turns around with her hand over her eyes like she’s been blinded
bruce brings his video camera with him and records everything. first thing they do is hit up a gift shop and it is better than any oscar nominated movie
everything they pick up is subjected to a thorough label reading and some kind of commentary
“steve, show them what you’re getting!!” “slippers” “what kind of slippers” “uh...soft”
thor on the other hand takes it very serious and his commentary ends up being very ~shakespearean~
peter and y/n get matching friendship bracelets for everyone
loki: “i’m not wearing that”
y/n: “that’s alright-“
loki: “no tie it on for me”
bucky wouldn’t have come along if it weren’t for steve and sam, but now he’s taking it upon himself to make sure that everyone stays in good condition so they don’t miss out on training
the whole team gets hourly text messages from him in the group chat
bucky: “There’s a water leak in Mickey’s Toontwon. If any of you slip and hurt yourselves I will kill you.”
y/n: “love you too buck”
(they know it’s his way to express his love for them so every message almost makes them tear up)
loki really wants to go on splash mountain but since he doesn’t want to get his clothes wet, he asks the guards how ~splashy~ splash mountain gets
they don’t take him seriously and it infuriates loki because it’s a perfectly reasonable question but it quickly turns into a passionate argument that holds up the entire line
“I DEMAND TO KNOW HOW HIGH THE RISK OF GETTING WET IS, YOU INCOMPETENT FOO—”
*cue y/n and nat dragging him away while bruce runs after them to zoom in on loki’s pouty glare*
they get him a green rain poncho with black polka dots from one of the gift shops, and he’s still glowering but he puts it on without protest before each ride that involves water
normally the avengers would easily get recognised but since everyone is walking around in costumes, people approach them for several other reasons
thor is just peacefully standing in life, staring at the incredicoaster like it’s the love of his life, when a little kid tugs at his cape
“excuse me sir, why are you so tall?” “good question, why are you so short?” “hmm” “hmm”
they find a micky mouse whac-a-mole and everyone is having Fun but something possesses tony and clint and they are really going for it
tony is a 5 foot tall ball of stress and competitiveness and he is yielding that plastic hammer like it’s the last thing he’ll ever do
clint on the other hand is starting to feel the numbness in his arms
y/n, with sarcasm: “you can do it, clint!”
clint, with spite: “i cannot do it, thanks”
*y/n stares into the camera*
they also make up a rule that if you are in a 5 meters radius of one of the theme park characters, you HAVE to snap a picture with them
steve, who gets constantly shoved nudged by bucky into some character’s path, ends up taking a picture with almost every single disneyland character
at some point, he’s just downright sick of it and there’s a 7 min video of steve zooming across the lot while goofy and woody run after him with wide open arms
bucky is doubled over with laughter in the background while sam is standing beside him and wiping away his own tears
the avengers also buy all the pictures that are taken of them on the rides and even stop at some photo booths so they can send them to wanda and vision who are both vacationing on hawai’i <3
thor, peter, and y/n run themselves ragged and their legs almost give out but they will not stop until they have been on every ride that disneyland has to offer
the others think it’s obnoxious but they follow and join them without hesitation
tony is secretly trembling with fear. doing loops in the air at the speed of light is fine and so is battling aliens, but getting on a rollercoaster ride is just heart-stopping horrifying
it’s not that he doesn’t like rollercoasters, (that man has no self-preservation skills, anything that resembles plummeting to death will be gazed at with big heart eyes) but he just doesn’t trust them
if he didn’t build it or prove it, he doesn’t trust it. period. but the avengers are just so excited and happy that he can’t find it in him to sit out
that quickly results in thor and tony re-enacting very impressive Shouting Contests on each ride without fail
tony is screaming and clinging onto whoever is sitting next to him for dear life because he’s Petrified™️
and thor is screaming, because he’s having The Time Of His Life
he’s feeling the wind in his hair, his heart in his throat, and if he’s not shredding his vocal chords and flinging his limbs around, what’s the point of it all
after 20 different rides, tony is sick of pretending and just trudges through disneyland, the happiest place of earth, like it’s the sole cause of all suffering in the world
nat rejoins the group after she mysteriously disappeared for a moment and her hair is tossed, there’s ash on her face, and half of her clothes are wet
bruce, startled: “where have you been??”
nat, beaming: “there was a ride that spat fire from all sides and people jumped out of nowhere to scare you while the whole place was filled with hot water!!!”
bruce, concerned, zooms in on nat’s excited face
“nat i think you went to hell”
sam is big on merry-go-rounds so he drags everyone with him and while some one them first don’t seem to enjoy it, they change their mind once they see bucky’s little smile
(they go on at least ten more rounds until it starts to get dizzy)
a little girl trips over her princess gown and falls close to where steve is waiting in line, and steve immediately abandons his spot to rush over
bruce zooms in on them bc steve has always been kinda awkward with kids, but here he is, crouching down and comforting that little girl, and it’s so unashamedly soft and sweet
they can’t hear what steve is saying but she’s BEAMING now and even giving him a wobbly courtesy while he claps proudly
bruce turns the camera around and both he and clint are lowkey in TEARS like “why are we crying?? we didn’t even fall down” “i KNOW!!”
nat gets a hold of the camera and she’s on a mission to get the most embarrassing greatest footage possible
“bucky, go stand next to moana” “why?” “it’s moana go stand over there” “but i don’t know-“ “bucky.” *cue bucky, awkwardly standing next to moana while nat grins broadly*
when he’s back with the team, sam just stares at him blank-faced, clearly waiting for bucky to ask why he’s looking at him
eventually bucky caves in with a long sigh
“what” “i can’t believe you don’t know who moana of montunui is. she restored BALANCE to the WORLD. put some RESPECT ON HER NAME”
no one knows why but there’s footage of y/n, thor, tony, and loki strutting up and down in the middle of the lane in minnie mouse plush shoes like it’s a catwalk
sam, bucky, and nat are holding up their fingers to score them while steve is staring at them like he’s analysing their fighting stances
bruce, clint, and peter are standing on the sidelines and cheering them on as they should be
they end their day by digging into an unholy amount of fries that even steve can’t resist because they’ve been walking the whole day
a questionable amount of cotton candy also end ups in their possession and the footage of that is just mostly everyone trying out each other’s cones while the camera is passed between them
soon after, the avengers are back in their van to drive home and bruce zooms in on the row of seats where y/n has her head on peter’s shoulder while the others are also half-lounging on each other, and everyone is asleep <3
* * *
guess what i’m about to say?
stay hydrated pals

Let Us Love You: Chapter 8
Start at the beginning
Bucky watched with a thoughtful expression as Peter left. There was no denying the omega hadn't looked at him quite like he had before.
He looked......unsure.
He debated on letting the others know, but he didn't have to say anything.
"That was interesting." Natasha said, eyebrows raised.
"What was?" Steve asked, turning from where Karen had walked off.
"Bucky and Peter." she answered.
The three other alphas snapped to attention.
"What about them?" Thor pushed.
"We just made eye contact. She's making something out of nothing." Bucky said, rolling his eyes.
"There was something different in that look." Natasha said, crossing her arms.
"I don't see why this is such a big deal. We all know he was close to the version of me in his world. He damn near shuts down every time he sees me. You'd be better off ignoring what you saw. It wasn't me he was looking at." Bucky glared before stomping off.
"Was it really a big deal?" Steve asked, looking at Natasha carefully. "I mean, Buck's not wrong. Peter had a connection with his version, it really could just be that."
"Oh, it's definitely a little bit of that. I could see it. He misses him. Most likely it's the same with Sam. Still, he knew he wasn't looking at his Barnes. He was trying to seen him in ours though."
"Perhaps this is a good thing." Thor hummed. "If we can convince him to talk to our friend Barnes, then he could see ours is the same as his!"
"That might work in theory, big guy," Tony nodded. "But how do you propose to get close enough to Peter to suggest it? How would you suggest it?"
"It's not a bad idea. I think Peter wants to talk to him, but our other selves have left a serious impression on him." Natasha said, moving to follow where Bucky had gone. "Let's go. We need to do a little brainstorming."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Welcome to my awesome abode. I'd be glad to show you around. Maybe you'd like to see the inside of my bedroom?" Johnny winked, opening the door wide for Peter to enter.
"I've literally been here multiple times. I think I can get around just fine." Peter smirked. "Plus, I've seen your bedroom. It's a disaster."
"You've seen theother me'sroom. I can assure you thatmineis ready for company."
"I bet it is." Peter rolled his eyes. "Where is everyone?"
"In the kitchen. Come on, I'll win you over with my co-"
"You can't cook." Peter snorted.
"You don't know that!"
"What are we having?"
"It's.......um..."
"Exactly." Peter laughed, passing Johnny and heading towards the kitchen.
"Are you sure we're just friends? I feel like there's something between us."
"Yeah, a mutual respect for giving each other shit."
"You know, I think you're ignoring the fact I'm a different Johnny Storm here." Johnny pouted, crossing his arms.
"No. You're still the same idiot." Peter chuckled, flicking his forehead.
"I'll have you know, I'm a highly sought-after alpha. Everyone wants a piece of this." he gestured to his whole body.
"I bet. I had to fight the crowd of screaming fangirls just to get in here." Peter deadpanned.
The truth was, Johnny was every bit as good looking in this universe as he had been in Peter's. Still, just as he retained his looks here, he also retained his extreme level of self-confidence.
"I'll win you over yet, Parker."
"Uh hu. Sure. Just don't hold your breath."
Peter would never admit he had once had a major crush on his own Johnny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Peter!" Reed smiled as he and Johnny entered the kitchen.
Sue smiled as she looked up from pulling a pan of lasagna out of the oven.
"Hello, Peter. Everything is almost done. Why don't you all go join Ben."
"Yes! I have so ma-"
"Reed." Sue warned. "He only just got here."
"It's ok, really." Peter smiled.
"I was used to this." he said, motioning between him and Reed.
"Let's talk then. I'm curious about your story. The multiverse isn't a common topic I get to discuss!"
"Well, I can't tell you you're gonna like most of what I have to say. Still, it's great to see you guys again." Peter smiled, genuinely happy to see the family of four back together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Heard we missed all the fun." Clint called, stepping off the elevator with his bags. "You guys couldn't have waited?"
"Sure. Next time we'll ask the killer robot army to hang on and let our other team mates get back from their impromptu vacation." Tony huffed.
"You all seem in a better mood than when we left. Something happen?" Sam asked, raising an eyebrow at others.
The alphas were gathered in the common area talking eagerly amongst themselves.
"Yes." Thor smiled widely. "We have decided to properly court our omega. We shall return to the old ways."
"Who says romance is dead?" Tony grinned. "We're gonna woo the hell out of him!”
"This should be fun." Sam deadpanned.
“Oh ye of little faith. We're an extremely romantic bunch when let loose.” Tony scoffed.
“The guy couldn’t be more clear on his desire not to be your omega.”
“We’ve been talking to Karen and each other. Slow and steady wins the race and all that.”
“I think we made it back in perfect time then!” Clint grinned, opening his bag. “Brought some of Laura and the kids’ things. They missed you guys.”
Clint passed out the few items he had brought from his home. The scents of Laura and the three kids extended into the room. The calm of knowing their distant pack members were safe settled the atmosphere.
“We’ll get out to see them soon.” Natasha smiled, rubbing the small stuffed bunny she knew belonged to Nathaniel.
“We may even get to introduce them to Peter.” Steve said, a hopeful lit in his voice.
“Please don’t push that on him.” Bruce sighed. “It’s going to be enough on him dealing with you all, much less integrating into a full pack.”
“We are fully prepared to take it slow with our young omega.” Thor smiled.
The four other alphas nodded in agreement. There was no other option really. Sam was right in his statement that Peter seemed to want nothing to do with them, but Peter's conflict over Bucky had revived their hopes.
Maybe it wasn't such a lost cause after all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Your universe sucked.” Johnny scoffed from his seat next to Peter.
“I don’t always get along with Stark, but it’s deeply upsetting to hear about a version of him that was so violent.” Reed frowned, taking his own seat.
“I just can’t picture any of them being like that.” Sue agreed.
“Well, good thing ours arn’t like that. Not sure I could clobber them all at once.” Ben huffed.
Peter listened as the four voiced their opinions of the Avengers.To be honest, he was getting a little sick and tired of everyone telling him how wonderful they were.
They were wonderful in his world at once too!Everyone loved them and practically worshipped them!
Truth be told, there was no real understanding of the change. It wasn’t like anyone was opposing them. Who would? The Avengers risked their lives to help people, to keep them safe. Why would they evenneedto change?
Not that it mattered. They did change. They went from saving people tohurtingthem. They lorded their power over the people, and gleefully killed those who posed any real threat.
They were monsters!
Peter absently ran his hand along his thigh where he knew a long scar sat. A memorial to a particularly brutal up close fight with Black Widow. She had managed to stun him with her widow bites, slowing him down enough to prevent an unharmed escape. It could have been much worse, he knew, but he got lucky in where the bites had hit him.
She had been aiming for a fatal blow.
His movement had saved him from a slow death, but the blade had torn practically through to the bone in his thigh. If Bucky hadn’t shown up, she would have finished the job. As it was, he was out of commission for two weeks before the wound had healed, feeling had returned, and the leg moved without stiffness.
God, the blood she had spilt.
“Peter?”
Peter startled out of his thoughts to find the four looking at him.
“Sorry.” he mumbled. “I can get lost in thought sometimes.”
“Well, I’m more than willing to help you with that.” Johnny grinned, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Oh I know you can. You always could bore me right to sleep.” Peter snarked.
The others laughed and began passing around the food as Johnny pouted.
"So, you said there are no second genders where you're from?" Sue asked, curious as to how Peter was handling the change.
"No, we definitely didn't have alphas, betas, and omegas where I'm from. It was.....surprising to say the least." Peter winced.
"Well, you seem to be doing alright as a beta." Reed smiled.
"Beta?" Peter raised an eyebrow.
"Yes. Your scent is barely there. Beta scents are generally muted. Yours seems a little more so. Maybe it's because you weren't originally from here. Do you not know your second gender though, or did you think you hadn't gained one?" Sue frowned.
"I would have figured Matt and Karen would have explained things to you."
Peter looked around the table, unconsciously touching his wrist where one of the patches sat under his sleeve and web shooter.
"No," Peter hesitated. "They did, I.....I'm just still adjusting it all. I mean, I lived 26 years without all this, so it's easy to forget sometimes."
Ben, Sue, and Reed nodded, striking back up light conversation and more questions about himself and how he was getting along. Out the corner of his eye, Peter couldn't ignore the strange look Johnny kept giving him.
"So, what are you going by if you can't be a Parker?" Ben asked, drawing Peter's thoughts away from Johnny.
"Jones." Peter sighed.
"Any relation to Jessica Jones?" Reed asked.
"Yeah." Peter huffed. "Everyone thought they were so funny when they decided to make me Jessica's cousin."
"What's funny about that?" Sue frowned. "Did the two of you date back in your world?"
"Not hardly." Peter laughed.
"No, they just thought my initials were a nice joke.They left my first and middle name then changed my last."
"What's your name then?"
"My name is Peter Benjamin Par...err, Jones. Peter Benjamin Jones."
"I'm sure you'd make a delicious sandwich." Johnny snorted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few hours had passed before Peter noticed the time. He had been enjoying himself while getting acquainted with this version of the Four. They were practically identical to his, making connecting with them extremely easy.
“Well, I guess I better get going. Karen’s a worrier.”
“Don’t let Matt fool you, Peter,” Sue smirked. “He’s a worrier too with people he cares about. I saw you two talking.”
“Matt was the first person I went to after I got here. I was good friends with him.” Peter smiled.
He was happy to have Matt and Karen, and to be gathering back all the people he lost, but Ben, May, Bucky and Sam were never far from his mind. The people he wanted most were the people he’d never get.
After promising to visit again, and give a demonstration of his strength levels compared to Ben's, Johnny led Peter out.
"So, Pete," Johnny started, unusually hesitant compared to his normal composure.
"The others didn't press, but I'm going to. You're an omega, aren't you?"
Peter blinked in surprise. He had yet to have to admit his second gender to anyone on his own yet. Everyone who knew, had either discovered from his scent, or been told by someone else.
"I could see the scent patch occasionally when your sleeve moved up and your, whatever those are on your wrists, shifted."
Peter swallowed hard, not missing the fact Johnny had moved into his space.
"I...uh.."
"It's ok, Pete." Johnny smirked, stepping back. "I'm not going to blab your secret. I am, however, going to knock you off your feet! You'll give in to me yet, Jones."
"I don't think you want to try, Storm." Peter replied, breathing a little easier as Johnny's alpha pheromones calmed.
"Why? Do you already have an alpha? I just don't see any mating marks."
Mating marks?
Peter frowned. He hadn't heard of any 'mating marks'. Was there more he had to learn? Maybe he should keep blowing Karen's lessons off.
"No. I don't have an alpha, and I'm not interested in one." Peter narrowed his eyes.
"Fair enough." Johnny smiled, holding up his hands in surrender. "But that doesn't mean I won't keep trying."
Peter sighed. While he wasn't about to let Johnny Storm in on his alpha problem, he couldn't forget how the Avengers had reacted to Wade when they realized the two were hanging out together.
Deadpool hadn't been in any real danger since he could easily regenerate, but Johnny couldn't.
If anything Karen had already told him had gotten through, it was that alphas could be possessive. He had already seen it in action, and the Avengers were anything but normal alphas.
Still, he wasn't going to let that stop him from hanging around people he actually trusted.
They would just have to deal.
If they couldn't, and tried to hurt his friends, he'd be ready.
As he made his way back toward Matt and Karen's, he didn't even notice how his thoughts on the Avengers had changed from "when", to "if".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You smell like Johnny Storm." Karen frowned when he walked through the door.
"Hello Karen. I see your fine after today's events. My dinner with the Four was great. If was nice to catch up. Thanks for asking."
"Don't sass me, Peter Jones." Karen glared, following him to his room, passing a smirking Matt along the way.
"What if you had run into your alphas? You're unmated and smelling of an alpha that's not one of them! Even worse that it's Johnny with his flirty reputation."
"I'm not avoiding friends just becausetheymight not like it, Karen!" Peter shouted, turning around with his own glare.
"They don't own me and never will. I don't want them! I don't trust them! It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks of them. I can't stand them!"
"Peter, please," Karen tried.
"No. This discussion is over Karen. I'm never going to be with the Avengers. It's not happening."
"You won't even give them a chance!" Karen shouted, her frustration rising. "You're so hell bent on seeing them as the same villains they were in your world that you refuse to see them as the heroes they are here! This isn't your old world, Peter! You can't keep hanging on to what happened there. You're here now!"
The two glared at each other, neither wanting to admit defeat.
"You don't know what you're talking about Karen. You have no idea what I've been through."
"I have a damn good idea, Peter! You've made no effort to hide your disdain for them. You have no problems admitting what those other Avengers did to you. I know it's left physical as well as mental scars, but did you ever stop and think that maybe getting to know these Avengers could help you heal?"
There was complete silence as Karen's words hung in the air.
"Getting to know them and seeing they're who you wish your Avengers had been could be good for you. You could finally relax a little and try to move on. You've been here for months now Peter, and yet you still hold everything from your past so close it's like it all happened yesterday."
Karen sighed, running her hand through her hair.
"We're all still here, Peter. Nothing has happened to any of us and they've had more than enough opportunity to hurt us if they wanted to. They've had plenty of chances to kill the others and make it look like a casualty of a fight and no one would question it, but they haven't. They haven't, and you need to realize and accept it."
Without another word, Karen turned and headed into her and Matt's bedroom, slamming the door behind her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anger rippling under his skin, Peter left the apartment and headed towards Luke's bar. Maybe he could find something there to keep himself busy.
Anything to get his mind off his....whatever that was, with Karen.
Shoving his way into the back door, the sounds from the front filtered in through his ears. The place was at peek hour.
"I swear, if one more asshole-Peter?"
Peter looked over as Luke stormed into the back, grabbing a bucket and mop.
"Rough night?" Peter asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Oh, it's gonna be for the shit that just broke a beer bottle over a guy's head. They're both about to clean up their little mess, then get thrown out on their asses." Luke grumbled, kicking the door back open and shouting.
Peter decided to hang out in the back, letting Luke handle things before making his way up front.
"Get out here, Jones." Luke snapped, sticking his head back through the door. "Make yourself useful and come serve some drinks."
Grinning, Peter slid his way behind the bar and got to work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was slowing down to the more, quieter patrons of the night. These were the people Peter liked the most. While the more boisterous crowd could be fun, they could also be annoying and demanding. Some even tried to get a little handsy, over the bar.
This crowd though, this was crowd was just looking for a little break from the world.
Peter heard someone sit at the bar while he was crouched, placing glasses back into their places. Rubbing his hands on his pants, he stood up to greet the customer and....froze.
Sam Wilson stared back, as equally surprised to see him.
The two just stared at each other, neither knowing how to react.
"Hey, Pete-" Luke stopped as he took in what was happening.
He wasn't quite sure what to do, and it didn't appear as if Peter or Sam knew either. Had it been any of the alphas, Luke would have easily jumped in, knowing how stressed Peter would be.
Sam wasn't an alpha though.
“Let me start by saying your secret is safe with me.” Sam said. “I’m pretty burnt out on alpha desperation at this point. I just want to have a drink and enjoy it.”
Peter stared at him a moment before moving forward.
“What would you like?”
“Whatever you recommend.”
Peter looked at him again. Guess Sam was willing to trust his judgement in drinks in any universe.
Sam nodded as Peter slid a glass across the counter top and took a swig.
“I hope we’re not gonna spend the entire time in here in this strange, tense silence.”
Peter sighed.
“This isn’t....this isn’t easy for me.”
“I’ve gotten that impression. I also heard you were close to your world’s Bucky and I.”
“Y...yeah.” Peter frowned. “By the end, they were my best friends.....they were all I had left.”
The two were silent again as Peter busied himself with meaningless tasks.
“I’m sorry this is happening to you.” Sam said suddenly. “I think I would have reacted the same way.”
Peter stood with his back to Sam, debating on his next move.
Finally, he turned.
“You’re a lot like him, well, when he wasn’t giving me shit anyway.” Peter chuckled.
“Oh, I can give you shit if that’s what you’re looking for spider boy.” Sam grinned.
Peter grinned back, strangely comfortable in this Sam’s presence.
Maybe all Sam’s were pretty much the same.
“Look. I know you’re probably willing to talk to me like thishere. I can see Cage keeping an eye on you, but I think, if we got along in your world, we could get along here.”
Peter hesitated, the since of unease returning.
“I’m not trying to hand you over to the wolves!” Sam said quickly. “I’m more so trying to offer up another friendship. One that gets me away from everyone at the tower and one that offers you.....” Sam hesitated, unsure if he should continue.
“Maybe something that offers you a bit of what you lost?”
Peter’s eyes widened in surprise. He wasn’t quite sure what to make of this Sam’s offer. As much as he missed his own, and as similar as the two seemed, could he really ever think of this Sam as a friend on par with his?
“I...um...”
“You don’t have to answer me now.” Sam assured. “Maybe just think about it. I realize I’m part of the enemy here, but I promise I’m not a bad guy.”
“Yeah.” Peter snorted. “You’re not trying to get into my pants.”
“You do realize there’s more to it than that, right?”
“I’m not really interested.” Peter replied. “You don’t know what it was like to see them hurt people. To see them kill you and Bucky.”
“I’d offer up the argument that these Avengers haven’t done that considering Bucky and I are clearly still alive, but I have the feeling you’ve heard that line enough.”
“That obvious?”
“From five words in.”
Peter let out a breath, running his hand through his hair. It was hard having someone who looked like his lost friend be so close, and yet so far.
"I'll share a secret with you, kid." Sam grinned, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
This caught Peter's attention as he leaned onto the bar.
"There are three betas in the tower. Me, Clint and Bruce-"
"I...I like Dr. Banner." Peter mumbled.
"What?" Sam asked, unsure he had heard right.
"I....I like Dr. Banner. He.......he had it hard in my world. Hulk is a force to be reckoned with. He can be easily enraged to the point that even the intelligence he does have can be quickly over written. When the Avengers...turned.....they held him hostage. Bruce was far to gentle in nature to side with them, so they held him captive, using Hulk against him. They'd do whatever they could to bring out Hulk, then set him loose on the city."
Sam sat in stunned silence. He could never imagine putting Bruce Banner through that kind of torment. Bruce struggled with balancing himself as both separate and part of Hulk.
"I wanted to free him. Tried several times, but it never worked. They kept him in an underground bunker beneath the tower. I only saw him once. I'm not even sure how I managed to make it that far. I've never forgotten how defeated, miserable and pained he looked inside that glass cage they kept him in."
"Glass doesn't sound like it would hold-"
"Oh, it was 'Hulk proof'." Peter hissed. "Before things went bad, Bruce and Tony created it to contain him if things got to bad and he needed somewhere safe to be until he returned back to himself."
"They used his own creation against him." Sam sighed, running his hand down his face. "Guess that explains why you didn't do anything to Bruce that day."
"I told Matt and Karen it was because he let me out. I'm telling you the truth because you live with them and need to know what they're capable of doing."
"If it makes you feel any better," Sam started. "We don't have a Hulk room or cage or anything."
Peter narrowed his eyes.
"Serious!" Sam defended. "Bruce comes and goes just like the rest of us. He pretty much stays at the tower though. We don't have many instances where the Hulk is needed, but Bruce's medical training comes in handy a lot. Even stepped up a notch when you showed up." Sam snickered.
"Are you.....enjoying me hurting them?" Peter asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Immensely. Clint and I, don't tell him I agree with him, think it's amazing."
Peter didn't stop the upturn of his lip at Sam's grin.
"Omega's don't typically kick their alpha's asses on the regular. I mean, I've heard of those mutant omegas at Xavier's going out and fighting, but I've never seen them do it in person. You, on the other hand, I have watched fling every alpha on the team around like rag dolls. It's humbling really."
Sam's laughter filled the small space between him and Peter.
"Well, I do have a history of fighting the hierarchy." Peter smiled.
"Tell you what," Sam said, holding out his hand. "Let's start fresh. No alternate identities. Just two guys meeting at a bar. I'm Sam Wilson."
Peter looked at the outstretched hand and up at Sam's face. His spider-sense remained, as it had the entire time, silent. Slowly, Peter took the outstretched hand.
"Peter Jones."
Sam raised and eyebrow.
"Doesn't surprise me." Peter rolled his eyes. "Of course you'd all know my real name."
"Why change it?"
"Because a version of me existed here at one time." Peter replied, looking away. "I can't be Peter Parker when he's dead."
"I guess not one that looks just like him." Sam nodded. "I'm guessing there's also family then?"
"Yeah." Peter replied, not willing to say more.
"Alright then, Peter Jones, it was nice to meet you. I better be getting back home though." Sam smiled, standing up and taking his jacket off the back of the chair.
"You'll cover that for me, right?"
Peter looked down where Sam nodded at the empty glass.
"No way Wilson."
"To think, I wanted to be nice to you." Sam said, pulling some bills out of his pocket.
"There's no such thing as free alcohol, man." Peter grinned.
"Then what's the point of being friends with the bartender?"
"The fabulous company?"
"I know that's what you get, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm getting." Sam smirked.
"I'll tell you what, this time." Peter's grinned turned wicked. "You'll get to keep a place you can go where the other Avengers can never bother you. I'll personally see to their exits if they ever show up."
Sam barked out a laugh as he straightened out his jacket.
"Well, if they ever show up, it won't be because of me. With that said, I appreciate your willingness to uphold the sanctity of my sacred drinking hole."
The two nodded at each other as Sam walked out the door, followed shortly after by the last of Luke's customers.
"You ok?" Luke asked as he restocked the bar while Peter swept.
"Surprisingly, yeah. Dealing with just Sam was way different than the others."
"Well, being a beta probably helps." Luke shrugged, not wanting to verbally address the other issues.
"Maybe." Peter nodded.
"You worried you'll have more 'customers'?" Luke asked after a moment. "I can't exactly say I can ban the Avengers..."
"No." Peter said, looking up at Luke. "I'm actually not."
Luke stopped and raised an eyebrow.
"You do realize-"
"I don't think he'll tell. Not them anyway. Maybe Barton and Dr. Banner, but not them."
"Well, I heard about Banner, but what about Barton. What's the feelings on him?"
Peter stopped sweeping, letting his thoughts gather themselves.
"He was just as ruthless as the others in my world. Tony made him explosive arrows. He caused so much damage with those. Lots of innocent people lost their homes and their lives. I don't trust him any more than the others."
Peter's face turned stony as he thought about the archer.
"He shot me in the back once. Went right through my right side."
"He did what?" Luke growled, walking from behind the bar and over to Peter.
"Yeah, right here." Peter said, lifting his shirt and tracing the scar on the side of his stomach, then moving to the part on his back.
Luke looked at the two scars, not missing a few others as well.
"Jesus, kid."
"I keep trying to tell you all. The Avengers can't be trusted this blindly! They could turn at any moment, and you could end up with the same scars as me......or worse."
Luke frowned as he watched Peter try to keep his breathing calm. He wasn't sure Peter having contact with Sam was a good idea anymore. It didn't matter what intentions the man had, being around him definitely opened Peter up to chances of having to see the other members of the team.
"I worry though, that I'm letting positive memories of Sam cloud my judgement here." Peter sighed. "I'm worried desperation for that connection is taking over."
"You can always keep to meeting here. You never have to meet him anywhere you don't want to." Luke shrugged. "I know you're tired of hearing it kid, so I'll save a lot of it."
Peter frowned, unsure of exactly what Luke was going to say.
"I don't have a problem with the Avengers, but I'm also not you. I don't have your past, so my opinion means nothing. Sam though, Sam's not an alpha. He's a beta with no romantic interest in you. I don't think it would be a big deal to consider the option of some form of friendship with him. Shit on the others if you don't want to."
Peter didn't know what to say. He was genuinely worried as to what accepting Sam's offer might lead to. The worst scenarios running through the forefront of his mind. Still, the possible benefits kept pushing their way in.
"I'll think about it.

Moony-Eyed
@bironfam i hope this is okay!
Tony didn’t think that their new astronaut was going to be anything special.
Well.
That’s a lie.
You kind of have to be special if you’re going to be an astronaut for NASA. You have to keep your cool, have good eyesight, and be okay with the possibility of dying. Maybe. Maybe you have to be cool with that.
Tony is rather good at his job. From revolutionizing how space suits are made to making the functions of the ship easier to manage, Tony is NASA’s secret weapon, the handyman of all handymen.
He’s usually squirreled away in his workshop, at his apartment that he honestly needs to clean far more than he does, or arguing with Potts about why he needs eight different coffee mugs.
They know him as a guy who doesn’t exactly give a rat’s ass about the chain of command, or dress code.
“You can’t fire me,” he had told Happy, after he had tried once again to stop Tony from entering areas containing sensitive information in sweatpants and a sweatshirt that proclaimed him the “MIT class of 1992.”
Tony is good at his job, nearly too good. He likes it that way.
But back to the astronaut.
Danvers had taken leave to take care of her family, and honestly? Space usually isn’t a lifetime event for astronauts. You see too much of it, you need time away. A lot of time away.
Pepper is giddy. She loved Carol, but Carol was happily married with a baby girl, and this one? This one wasn’t.
Not that Pepper was looking for anyone. No, she and her partner Nat had standing date nights every Saturday evening, and she loved them too much to even think about anything else.
But Tony? Tony needed someone. He never really dated anybody, at least not anybody that he genuinely liked.
Stark was a powerful name, and it got tossed around a little bit, but Tony mostly kept to himself and only responded to it when he was at a party or Happy was mad at him for forgetting his ID badge yet again.
James Rhodes was a nicely built man with a strong, confident aura, and single.
(Pepper had checked.)
She thought that he and Tony would get along quite well, if anything.
James is shifting uncomfortably in his seat. He’d rather just get to work on what he needs to do. Getting into the air is one of the best feelings, and the sooner he can experience it, the sooner he’ll be fine.
He always pushed the limits, and space is just the last limit he gets to push. He’s excited. He’s always wanted to work for NASA, be on their roster of astronauts. He wants little kids who identify with him to know that they can do it too.
So he’s ready to work with the best and brightest of their era.
“Where the fuck are my nachos?!”
His head whips around to a man who is wearing an ill-fitting cardigan (that is most likely not his), old jeans that have what look to be equations written on one thigh, and glasses that are most definitely broken sitting at an angle.
“Your nachos were too close to the computers,” one woman says without looking up. “Stop bringing nachos here or I’m going to fucking kill you.”
“You can’t kill me,” the man retorts.
“Tony,” comes another voice. James turns and sees who must be Pepper Potts. “Go to your office. Now. Change your pants, you wrote on them again.”
“I did?”
He looks down and swears.
“Son of a bitch!” He then looks at Jim. “Wait, who are you? Are you the new astronaut?”
“Uh, yes? I’m James.”
He sticks out his hand.
Who seems to be Tony stares at his hand.
“Your name is seriously James?”
“Do you think I’m bad at jokes?” he asks, eyebrows raised.
Tony grins.
“No, I think you’re gonna be a riot. But I’m not calling you James.”
“Jim, then.”
“No,” Tony says. “You’re not an old man, you’re still attractive.”
His eyebrows raise.
Tony’s face pales.
“I’m going to. Go. I have math on my pants.”
Pepper snorts, readjusting her grip on her clipboard.
“Welcome to NASA, Colonel Rhodes. I can promise you that we don’t usually yell about our lunch location or write on articles of clothing.”
-
Surprisingly, James doesn’t see Tony for two weeks. Apparently, he’s been working outside with a couple of the interns to calculate some stuff, rework some of the older ships for experience, and stay out of the way of Pepper, who says that he’s attempting to murder her via headaches to deal with.
He seems interesting, however. There are sticky notes and papers all over the offices and breakrooms reminding people of what Tony had for breakfast/lunch/dinner, or where the extra coffee supplies are.
“You provide for him?” he asks Pepper one time.
“He gets too much into his own head sometimes,” Pepper says. “He focuses too much on a program or an improvement and forgets that he works around other people. You wouldn’t believe how many times we had miniature science experiments based off of lunches that he would leave in the fridge.”
Rhodes nods. “Well. I’ll look forward to working with him.”
-
Tony has been working outside of the office for two reasons:
1.) To legitimately help the interns. (Ned and Peter are making improvements!)
2.) James Rhodes is the hottest guy on earth. Maybe in the universe. For real. Seriously.
He hates Pepper for this. Didn’t even tell Tony what the new astronaut looked like, and then shows up with a god of a man. Rude and unfair.
And he had to be the dumbass with the equation on his pants.
He didn’t even have spare pants! He had to stay in his office for the whole day because the equation was actually really important and he needed it.
“Why didn’t you just transfer it over on paper?” Bruce asks over the phone. Bruce is his friend who works in a technically classified, off-the-books, not-exactly-government-issued building. He’s cool. He also points out the obvious.
“I’m the biggest idiot on the planet,” Tony groans. “There was just a new guy at work, and he threw me off balance, so-”
“What’s he look like?”
“Why, you not crushing on that hot Nordic space dude?”
“No, still am. But I still remember when Barton came to work for you guys and you didn’t know that his name wasn’t George until about six months into him working there.”
“In my defense, he works mostly with physical therapy and prep for no gravity,” Tony says. “I work with math and shit.”
“Still,” Bruce says. “You wouldn’t have pointed him out if you didn’t think he was cute. What’s he like?”
“I...don’t exactly know.”
“Oh my god, you’ve been avoiding him?”
“Oh what, like you didn’t jump out of a window when Thor almost saw you in a tank top?”
“I have a farmer’s tan! Totally different circumstance!”
“Is it?”
“I hate you.”
“Get to dating Thor and then we’ll talk again. Have fun re-revolutionizing green energy, Dr. Banner.”
“Look to the stars, Tony.”
-
James has to get fitted for his suit.
He faces Tony, who looks quite different from when he first saw him. His hair is somewhat less messy, he has one of those geeky NASA-logo shirts that they sell at Target, and is wearing khaki pants with about a million different pockets.
(Something in his mind is whispering that he definitely shouldn’t find him attractive. But he will anyways.)
“Alright space-cowboy, let’s get your measurements,” Tony says. “You feeling okay today?”
“Right as rain.”
“Rain is never good, sunshine,” Tony quips. “Now, about your nickname from me...hm. Rhodey.”
“How’d you figure that out?”
“Substituted the ‘s’ for a ‘y’, just simple stuff,” he says with a shrug. “You approve?”
“I...guess.”
“Good. Now Rhodey, how are you feeling?”
“Like sunshine and gumdrops,” he responds sarcastically.
Tony smiles, and damn if it makes his heart thump a bit.
“Better answer, soldier. Extend those arms, please.”
Tony smells really nice. Subtle cologne and clean laundry. Rhodey finds that he likes it.
“How’ve you been doing, Tony?”
“Like a gentle breeze on a day that’s seventy-two degrees,” Tony answers. “Work’s been good today. Helen made tacos.”
“I had some of those, they were pretty good.”
“Mm,” Tony answers. “Legs a bit more apart, thank you.”
Rhodey shifts his stance a little bit, carefully not watching Tony bend down just a tad to get the bottom of his foot.
(But oof, that was hard.)
Tony comes back up again, looking into Rhodey’s eyes. For a moment, for a brief moment, his breath is taken away.
“I need to wrap my measuring tape around your waist. You okay with that?”
“More than.”
“Don’t get saucy,” Tony winks. “No one likes more than one floozy at the office, and that’s what got me this job anyways.”
Rhodey lets out a laugh, and Tony grins.
He likes making him laugh. Likes it more than he should.
-
They spend more and more time together. Tony always makes adjustments, Rhodey realizes that Tony doesn’t exactly keep track of when he eats, so they have lunch together.
They like it a lot.
On good-weather days, they eat outside on a bench. Tony leans against one said, foot brushing Rhodey’s calf, and Rhodey doesn’t really mind because he’ll lean over occasionally and steal whatever Tony’s eating.
“This is theft, you know.”
“You eat like a bird, what do you know about food theft?”
Tony almost always stays later than anyone else except for nights with Rhodey.
Once a month, they have dinner together. Rhodey’s new to the area and Tony’s almost never social with anyone, so they’ve been working through a list of the three-star-rated restaurants and seeing which ones they like.
“It’s kind of like a date,” Pepper says, on her monthly hangout with Tony (and also kind of a clean-up party for his house).
“Not dates,” Tony says. “Just friends. I’m sure he has his eye on someone in or out of the office.”
“Like you?”
“His first impression of me was me writing an equation on my pair of jeans, and then I haven’t exactly upgraded my style since,” Tony deadpans. “He’s seen me in neon orange sweatpants, Pep. You don’t exactly come back from that.”
“Maybe he likes you for who you are!”
“God that’s such a bullshit answer,” Tony whines. “You sound like a straight-to-video movie that came out in 1997!”
“That’s too specific.”
“And? You still get the point!”
Pepper flings a pillow his way.
“Where is your wine?”
“In the same cabinet you always leave it.”
“Goody.”
While Pepper sways to bed, Tony thinks about what she said.
It could be possible. Tony had never exactly asked him about himself in that capacity, but Rhodey never had an odd reaction to a statement that involved talking about a partner of the same-sex or a one-liner about it.
Maybe?
...no.
Guys like Rhodey deserved someone better than someone who forgot to eat lunch four out of the seven days of the week. (And maybe four was being generous.)
-
On the flipside, Rhodey was currently telling his woes to Carol, who was laughing at him.
“You nerd!” she says. “You like Tony, and you’ve done nothing about it? Have you even told him that you also like guys? Cuffed your pants?”
“No,” Rhodey says. “I just...why would he like someone like me? I’m...boring.”
“You’re not boring,” Carol says.
“Yeah you are!” Maria calls from the kitchen. “You’re very boring, Mr. ‘Only-Drinks-Black-Coffee’!”
Carol giggles.
“Maybe Maria has a point. Maybe.”
Rhodey groans, leaning against the couch.
“I’m so fucked.”
“On the contrary-”
“Oh shut up.”
-
Pepper is tired of people’s problems. They’re getting closer and closer to launch, and Clint’s out sick and Helen is being weird again, and Jane is off somewhere to a secret government-but-not-government launch to discuss things with two potential boyfriends. (Maybe boyfriends. Maybe.)
Tony is getting stressed.
Usually, he’s the only one who’s fine during a launch. He’s still cracking jokes, making fun events, and calming down people who are a bit too nervous.
But usually, he’s not as close to the astronaut as this.
He’s been thinking about the accidents they’ve had over the years. He doesn’t want a repeat. He’s been pulling all-nighters, avoiding sleep, and checking in on Rhodey consistently, to the point where Rhodey has to drag him outside and tell him that things will be fine.
(In Pepper’s professional opinion, they’d be fine if they just did a goodbye kiss or whatever, but okay.)
Tony’s getting into his own head.
So is Rhodey.
He’s going to be gone for a long time. He’s going to miss the holidays. And Tony won’t be able to talk to him everyday.
“You should tell him,” Pepper murmurs. “I think you both would benefit from it.”
“I’m not going to play that unfair card,” Rhodey murmurs back. “I either confess my love and go to a dangerous mission knowing that he loves me back and I said it when I can’t return, or he doesn’t and I just played a guilt-trip card.”
“It’s not like that.”
“Isn’t it?”
Rhodey shakes his head.
“I...I can’t do that to him. Wouldn’t be right. After the mission.”
“After, then,” Pepper says. “When you come home.”
Rhodey grins.
-
The day of launch happens far quicker than anyone wants it to, most of all Tony.
Pepper actually kicked him out of his office, told him to shower, and wear something nice for once.
“Make sure he knows he has someone to come home to,” Pepper says. “Wear your turtleneck!”
“It’s only September,” Tony scowls. “And he’s his own person who’s about to launch himself into space.”
“He will be fine,” Pepper says. “With your research and work, we’ve cut down overlooked mistakes by about forty percent.”
“Still not half.”
“Because we’re NASA,” Pepper sniffs. “Our mistakes matter more, so we make less of them.”
Tony nods.
-
He ends up almost being late to the launch because of Pepper’s stupid wardrobe advice.
He’s wearing his nicest pair of pants, a button-up that’s been at the back of his closet for quite some time, and he’s feeling stupid because he had to play AC/DC in the car so he would actually focus on what was going on.
Now he’s waiting for Rhodey to exit wearing the space suit that he made and to tell everyone that it was an honor and a privilege to be going to space where things happen and Tony can’t be there to help.
Life sucks.
But it goes on, and there’s Rhodey in the brilliantly-designed suit, and Tony’s never been more proud and more sad, but he sucks up his tears and walks up anyways.
“Hey space-cowboy. Ready to explore the frontier?”
“As ever,” Rhodey says. “You ready to forget to eat your lunch all over again?”
Tony smiles.
“You’ll have to check in with me soon, then,” Tony says. “Cut the mission short?”
Rhodey laughs.
“Wish I could. But I’ll send you pictures,” he says. “I promise.”
Tony stops for a moment, smile dropping from his face.
“Promise me one more thing.”
“Anything,” Rhodey says. “Anything you want.”
“Come back safe. Swear to me that you will.”
Rhodey grins.
“Safe and sound, honey. Safe and sound.”
Tony watches him board the ship, wave to the cameras, and wink at him.
He rolls his eyes, but blows a kiss anyways.
-
Tony’s a nervous wreck.
Pepper has decided that Rhodey needs to not go on missions anymore, or at least take Tony with him because he’s annoying.
“Can you stop crying on the second floor bathroom? It’s getting annoying,” Pepper says. “Clint says he can hear you and feels bad.”
“Well how are we supposed to know that Rhodey’s okay?!” Tony says. “For all I know, he could be dead!”
“I really hope you don’t mean that,” comes a voice from behind.
Tony whips around, seeing Rhodey’s grainy face from the big screen.
“You bitch!”
He laughs, and it doesn’t sound real, but he can see him.
“Hey Tony. You been making sure no one is pissed at you for forgetting your dinner in the fridge?”
“Well, now I will,” he admits. “I’ve missed you.”
“I missed you too,” Rhodey smiles. “How’s everything been down there?”
“Boring,” Tony says. “When are you coming back?”
“I got about two more months,” Rhodey says. “And then I’ll be back.”
“Quit hogging all the screen time,” Natasha teases. “You lovebirds can have your moment on earth.”
Tony blinks.
“What.”
But by that time, Natasha and Sam have already been asking a million questions, and Pepper is filling Rhodey in on what he’s missed.
Tony is still stuck on the whole ‘lovebirds’ thing that Natasha suggested.
...that couldn’t be possible. And yet if other people saw it that way...
“Tony? Tony?”
He blinks again, looking back up at the screen.
Rhodey is smiling at him, that smile that means that he’s happy to see someone.
“I’ll see you soon, honey.”
“Right back at you, space-cowboy.”
The screen goes to black, and Tony smiles a bit.
“Aw, you nerd,” Clint teases. “So, you gonna ask him out on a date?”
“Clint, I will cut off your leg,” Tony says cheerily. “I have to go finish some paperwork!”
Tony’s done all of his paperwork, it’s one of the few times that Pepper’s had it done on time.
He has to keep doing things to stop thinking about Rhodey.
-
He writes him letters. He knows that he won’t ever read them, but writing letters helps and sometimes it makes his hands less jittery.
He’s not ever going to send them. Ever. Letters are cheesy and they feel...personal.
Pepper tells him that he’s being lame.
“I’m not being lame!” Tony cries. “I am just. Protecting myself!”
“You have the reasoning of a Jane Austen love interest,” she says flatly. “I swear if you don’t tell him, then I’ll meddle. And you know how bad I am when I meddle.”
“You literally have made things so much worse for so many people,” Tony responds.
“Not worse, per se.”
“Oh right, how could I forget?” Tony exclaims sarcastically. “You made things the worst.”
“If we weren’t such good friends, you’d be dead,” Pepper says.
“Then let’s be worst enemies,” Tony mutters. “You still ready for pizza night?”
“Yeah, I’m ready,” Pepper says. “Meet at your place at seven, right?”
“Right.”
-
Here is what Tony does not know: Rhodey’s coming back down earlier than expected, and Pepper knows this.
So she’s been busying Tony with work while she’s acclimating Rhodey to life on earth again.
“Has he really missed me?” Rhodey asks for about the twentieth time in about two hours.
“Yes,” Pepper says. “I hope these aren’t your talking points for your interviews. If people know you’re this much of a love-struck idiot in real life, they won’t take you seriously.”
“I just missed him!”
“Oh sure,” she responds, rolling her eyes. “And I’m sure you’ll tell the news reporters that you missed me with as many stars in your eyes as now. You like him, you absolute geek.”
“Well, maybe a little,” Rhodey mutters. “But you’re sure he’ll like the surprise?”
“One hundred percent.”
-
Tony is having, perhaps, the worst day in his life. Maybe in history, if he’s being quite honest.
His car, for one thing, won’t start for more than is done-away-with concern, so he has to call Pepper and say that he’s going to be late since he has to fix his own car.
“Will you get coffee on the way here?” Pepper asks.
“Your usual order?”
“Yeah, you know the drill.”
Then the line is long because some stupid person wanted to complain, and Tony was this close to just threatening to buy the entire store to make it stop, and he cried on his way to work because he saw a duck cross the road and it reminded him of how Rhodey crashed his first car avoiding a duck that was crossing the road.
Yeah. It’s rough.
Then he parks in the wrong parking spot because some asshole with a stupid rental car took his usual spot, and then he stepped in a puddle.
He hates today.
“Pepper!” he declares as he enters the building. “I wore jeans today, I got your coffee, and I’m already done with the day. I swear to god if one more unexpected thing happens, I’ll just say ‘fuck it’ and go work for the Soviets!”
“The Soviets aren’t a thing, Tones.”
He knows that voice.
He fucking knows that voice. He isn’t supposed to be back from that mission for another month.
Tony doesn’t turn around.
“I’m hallucinating. Oh my god, I’m hallucinating.”
Hands wrap around his neck, hugging him.
“This feel like a hallucination?”
(Okay so Tony drops the coffee.)
Rhodey’s smile is blinding, and he’s...he’s here. Right in front of him with those not-supposed-to-be-that-hot polo shirts, those eyes that he could get lost in, and just...
Well.
He hugs him and he hugs him tightly.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back so soon?!”
“Pepper organized it,” Rhodey says, giddy. “Decided it would be a nice surprise for you.”
Tony looks over at Pepper, who’s trying to hide a grin behind her hands.
“Pepper if I wasn’t so over-the-moon right now, your heels would be snapped.”
She shrugs.
“Worth it. You requested today off, by the way.” She winks as she turns back to her office.
“Well, what do you say?” Rhodey asked. “Help me get used to having my feet back on the ground?”
Tony grins.
“Dinner sounds like a good start. Gotta get you some good earth food, none of that dehydrated crap.”
“Do you know how long it’s been since I had a decent slice of pizza?”
Tony grins.
“I can fix that.”

The Hidden Hero | Peter Parker Series
Summary: In an alternative universe, Peter Parker has the biggest crush on the reader. Even though the reader doesn’t know his secret, the reader is obsessed with the webslinger. So Spiderman decides to show up at Liz’s Party to impress everyone, specifically the reader.
Warning: some spoilers
Pairing: Peter Parker (Spiderman) x reader
Type: The Hidden Hero Series
MASTERLIST
A/N: THIS IS A HEAVILY EDITED VERSION OF MY VERY FIRST FANFICTION. IT PROBABLY REALLY SUCKS SO I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THAT. BUT IT WAS MY FIRST ONE SO I WANTED TO POST IT.
The bright yellow buses were pulling up to the curb of the school grounds. The large crowd of high school students hustling and bustling down the corridors. The monotone buzz of several-hundred voices hummed like an orchestra throughout the hallways.
The small group of gossiping girls were hanging around the lockers. They giggled amongst themselves. They always wore those mini skirts and tight shirts. The cliquey jocks were currently talking about the football game last night. They were wearing the exact same athletic jacket that they wore every single day. The parade of band geeks had just walked past them with their huge instrument cases. There were the aerospace tech kids who never did anything but make different robot models to battle between periods.
The familiar squeaking sound of sneakers were catching against the newly waxed floors. The metal locker doors were slammed shut once the students had gathered their textbooks for that period. The bell was ringing loudly on the sidelines, signaling the start of classes for the day.
At the given moment, Peter Parker was maneuvering his way through the crowd of students with his best friend Ned Leeds. He was currently carrying his textbooks because he had lost his backpack yesterday. The two of them were making their way to their first class of the day.
Last night, Ned had caught Peter sneaking into his bedroom dressed as the Spiderman. He had seen him crawling on the ceiling! It was quite a shock to find out that his best friend was the webslinger that he had saw on youtube. He wasn’t sure if he would be able to keep his secret. And he had a million questions for him.
Throughout the whole day, Ned was asking questions about Peter’s alter-ego. He was able to come up with a handful of different questions in each class. Those questions mostly consisted of the range of the webslinger’s abilities, such as whether or not he could summon an army of spiders or how far he could shoot his webs. He was always given short or curt answers.
Near the end of the day, Peter and Ned were forced to go to gym class. They watched a short video that had Captain America talking about the fitness challenge. As if on cue, Ned asked his friend if he knew the infamous avenger. He said that he did and that he stole his shield.
Now the students were told to get into pairs of two. They would be doing sit-ups. They would alternate every few minutes between partners. At the moment, Ned was holding down Peter’s feet so he crank out those sit-ups. He actually found that they weren’t so hard to do anymore, now that he had this weird radioactive spider venom in his blood.
“Can I be your guy in the chair?” Ned wondered spontaneously.
“What?” Peter whispered. He had spoken in this low tone of voice so that nobody would be able to hear them. He didn’t quite understand his question.
“You know there is a guy with a headset telling the other guy where to go. Like if you were stuck in a burning building, I could tell you where to go because there would be screens around me. You know? I could swivel around them. And I could be your guy in the chair,” Ned explained.
“I don’t need a guy in the chair,” Peter insisted. He shook his head at the idea. He heard the gym teacher praising him on the sidelines, causing him to pause momentarily. He was quick to resume his sit-ups.
In the background, Y/N had forced herself to walk into the gymnasium. She had immediately hurried towards the gym teacher to explain why she was late to class. She had been tutoring another student during the hour. She quickly handed him a slip of paper. He took one glance at him, nodding his head in confirmation. He told her that she could just sit on the bleachers for the rest of the class because it was almost over anyways.
Out of instinct, Peter had shifted into a sitting position and stopped doing his sit-ups. He could feel the little hairs on his arm raise. His spider senses were telling him that someone had just walked into the gym, but it wasn’t just anyone. It was his crush.
“She’s here, isn’t she?” Peter said. He didn’t seem to take his eyes away from his best friend in front of him. He waited for a response. His friend turned his head to look across the small stretch of the room, settling his gaze on the familiar looking student. He nodded his head.
“Yeah. How’d you know?” Ned questioned. He had furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. He was slightly taken back by his comment.
“Spider senses,” Peter waved off. He had just briefly turned his head to look at her through the corner of his eye. He could barely see her talking with the gym teacher. He was quick to start doing his sit-ups again. “Can she see me? Do you know if she’s looking at me?” Peter whispered in question.
“Oh yeah,” Ned said with a firm nod of the head. He could see her heading towards the bleachers right behind them. He caught her turn her head slightly towards them. “She saw you,” Ned confirmed.
On the bleachers, Y/N had found herself settling down beside her small group of friends. They were currently playing the game called ‘fuck, marry, kill.’ They would list off three random names of celebrities or artists. Then they would have to decide who they would fuck, marry, and kill. They listed three of the avengers.
“You see for me it would be…fuck Thor...marry Iron Man...and kill Hulk,” Betty Brant concluded. Some of her friends had totally agreed with her lineup, but there were a few friends who would have made a completely different choice.
“What about the Spiderman?” Y/N wondered. She had lowered herself down onto the bleachers, looking at each of her friends with curious eyes. She could see her friend Liz Allen shrug her shoulders at the thought.
“It’s just Spiderman,” Liz claimed. She made a face of disgust. She must not have thought that he was that impressive or attractive.
“Did you guys see that big security cam on youtube? He fought off four guys!” Y/N exclaimed. She was now leaning forward in her place. She was quite eager to defend her opinion. She was practically praising him.
In the background, Peter and Ned had turned their heads to look towards the small group sitting on the bleachers. Neither one of them could believe the words they were hearing coming out of her mouth. They looked at each other in slight shock.
“Oh my gosh. She’s crushing on Spiderman,” Betty joked. Her face had twisted into this playful smirk. She leaned over to nudge her friend in the side.
“No way!” Liz laughed.
“Kinda,” Y/N shrugged. She had dropped her gaze to stare down at her hands in her lap. She tried to hide the bright blush creeping up onto her face. She smiled to herself.
“Ugh. Gross,” Betty scoffed. “He’s probably like thirty,” Betty claimed.
“You don’t even know what he looks like. What if he is like seriously burned?” Liz suggested. She had waved her hands in a dramatic manner. She was just trying to make a point.
“I wouldn’t care. I would still love him for the person he is on the inside,” Y/N said with a small smile on her face. “He’s a good man! And its obvious he really cares about this city. That is something I really admire about him,” Y/N confessed.
“Peter knows Spiderman!” Ned blurted out. He didn’t really know what came over him, but he couldn’t stop those words from coming out of his mouth. He could see that everyone in the room had stopped what they were doing upon hearing his comment.
In response, Peter’s mouth dropped open in absolute shock. He turned his head to look at his best friend with wide eyes. He was quick to scramble to his feet, shaking his head in denial.
“Uh, no. I don’t,” Peter said. He had taken a few steps forward in his place, standing in front of the small group of friends on the bleachers. He was trying to find the right words to explain himself. “No. I-I mean,” Peter stuttered.
“They’re friends,” Ned added with a smile on his face.
“Yeah. Like Coach Wilson and Captain America are friends,” Flash teased. He had stopped climbing the rope in the background, landing on the floor with a thump. He started to walk towards his rival because he was very interested in this conversation.
“I-I’ve met him a couple times but its uh…through the Stark internship,” Peter clarified. He stumbled over his choice of words. He had lifted his hand to scratch the back of his head in a nervous manner. He nodded his head in confirmation. “Mhmm. Yeah. But I am not really suppose to talk about it,” Peter claimed.
“Well, that’s awesome,” Flash replied. His voice was laced with sarcasm. He had stopped in his place. He had turned his body towards the small group of friends sitting on the bleachers, gesturing to them with the small wave of the hand. “Hey, you know what? Maybe you should invite him to Liz’s party,” Flash said.
“Yeah, I am having people over tonight. You are more than welcome to come,” Liz said. She could feel the strong sense of embarrassment creeping through her body because she hadn't invited them to the party beforehand. She just felt like they were kinda losers so she didn’t want to invite them. But at least she was kind enough to invite them now.
“You’re having a party?” Ned wondered. He knew that this was the first time that he was hearing about this party. He could only wonder why he hadn’t already been invited to the party.
“W-Will you be there, Y/N?” Peter stuttered. She had lifted her head to look directly into his soft brown eyes. She had smiled shyly at him. She nodded her head in confirmation. He could feel his heart fluttering in the confines of his chest.
“Yeah! It’s gonna be dope. You should totally invite your personal friend Spiderman,” Flash said in a persistent tone of voice. He stood directly in front of his rival, staring him down. He was puffing out his chest to be more intimidating (and maybe a little taller than him).
“Flash,” Y/N warned. “Leave him alone.”
“Ah come on. He’ll be there,” Flash promised. He turned his head to look at her with this playful expression on his face. He winked at her. He smirked to himself in triumph. But he didn’t seem to catch the moment where she rolled her eyes at him.
The whole conversation would come to an abrupt end when the bell rang to dismiss the last class of the day. The students were quick to stand to their feet and make their way towards the door. Meanwhile, Peter had watched his crush stand to her feet. The two of them briefly met each other’s gaze for a split second. She sent him a small smile. She didn’t even know that his eyes were following her figure out of the gym.
“What are you doing?!?” Peter turned his attention back towards his best friend standing behind him. He had thrown his hands up in exaggeration. He just couldn't believe that his friend would do that to him.
“Helping you out. Did you not hear her? She has a crush on you!” Ned exclaimed. He could feel the smile growing at the corners of his lips. He watched his best friend open his mouth to say something against him, but nothing could come out. “You are an avenger! If any one of us has a chance with her, it’s you.” Ned confessed.
Previously, Peter had actually known her since grade school. The two of them had become pretty close friends. He had developed his first crush on her, but he was never able to gather enough courage to tell her. Now here she was, years later with a crush on his alter ego. It almost didn’t feel real to him.
That night, Aunt May had driven Peter and Ned to the house for the party. She parked the car in front of the house. For a brief second, Peter had said that this would be a mistake and that he wanted to just go home. His aunt said that she totally understood how he was feeling. She was eventually able to convince him to go to the party after all.
The two teenage boys turned to look at the grand house in front of them. They had started walking up the sidewalk, heading towards the house. The two of them had passed by plenty of other students that went to their same high school. And they could hear the music blasting from inside the house.
“You have the suit, right?” Ned questioned. Very discreetly, Peter lifted up his flannel sleeve to show him the web shooters and red costume underneath his clothing. “This is going to change our lives!” Ned exclaimed.
The music was so loud that it would be hard to hear the person talking right beside them. The bass thumped in time with the boys’ heart beat as though they were one with the song. Over the roar of music, a distant hazy chatter could be heard throughout the entire house. The high school students could be found holding red solo cups with harmless non-alcoholic drinks.
Of course, Flash would be in charge of the music for the night. He had a pair of heavy headphones around his neck. He rubbed his hands against the two records at the station to create that iconic record scratch sound. He was just trying to look cool.
“Okay. We are gonna have Spiderman swing in, say you guys are tight. And then I get a fist bump or one of those half bro hugs,” Ned said in a low tone of voice. He really had this whole thing planned out.
A familiar figure had found herself walking around the corner of the hallway. She had turned her head to look at the two teenage boys standing in the short distance. She was quick to make her way towards them, feeling a smile stretching across her face.
“Oh! Hey guys,” Y/N said. She waved at them. She had walked towards them until she was standing right in front of them. She quickly looked between the two of them with the softest and kindest look on her face.
“Hey Y/N,” Ned said with a silly grin on his face. He had forced himself to straighten his back in posture, standing at attention. He turned his head to look at his best friend through the corner of his eye. He nudged him in the side.
“Hey Y/N,” Peter’s voice squeaked.
“I’m glad you guys came,” Y/N confessed. She was holding onto her own red solo cup in her hands. She lifted her other hand to gesture to the table behind her. “There is pizza and drinks so feel free to help yourself,” Y/N claimed.
“Wow! What a great party,” Peter had choked on his own words. He had turned his head to look at her with this sweet boyish grin on his face. He could feel his heart hammering on the inside of his chest.
“Thanks. I barely did anything. It was all Liz,” Y/N insisted with the wave of the hand. She could hear someone calling her name in the background. She turned her head towards the sound of the voice, spotting one of her friends in the crowd. “Oh! I should go,” Y/N said.
“Yeah,” Peter nodded his head. She found herself hurrying towards her small group of friends in the short distance. She had looked over the small stretch of her shoulder, waving goodbye to them.
“Dude! What are you doing?” Ned wondered. “She’s here, spider it up!”
“No. No. No. I can’t. I cannot do this. Spiderman is not a party trick,” Peter said. He shook his head in denial. He quickly straightened his back in posture. He ran his hands over the invisible wrinkles in his shirt. He shrugged his shoulders to himself. “Look, I am just gonna…be myself,” Peter whispered.
“Peter,” Ned groaned. He had closed his eyes for a brief second. He shook his head at his friend’s comment. “No one wants that,” Ned said harshly.
“Dude,” Peter said hurtfully. He was quick to turn his body to walk away from his friend. He heard his name being called over the speakers in the room. He turned his head to look across the small stretch of the room, looking directly at his rival holding the microphone.
“Penis Parker! What’s up? Where is your pal, Spiderman? Let me guess, in Canada with your imaginary girlfriend?” Flash teased him. He was only encouraged by the sound of laughter coming from the high school students in the room. “That’s not Spiderman. That’s just Ned in a red shirt,” Flash joked.
Somehow, through peer pressure, Peter found himself standing on the roof of the house. He had disregarded his regular clothing onto the top of the roof. He was now wearing his red and blue suit of his alter-ego. He knelt down on the rooftop and gazed down at the small house.
“Hey! What’s up? I am Spiderman,” Peter whispered to himself. He lifted his hands to the neckline of his white shirt. He pulled the shirt over his head. “Just thought I would swing by...say hello to my buddy Peter. Oh hey! What’s up, Ned? Where is Peter anyways?” Peter said to himself.
Now Peter could see his best friend standing awkwardly in the middle of the room. He felt bad that he had left him alone for a few minutes. However, there was still this part of Peter that did not want to make his presence known at the party. He just didn’t think that it was right.
“I can’t do this.” Peter whispered. He shook his head at the crazy idea. He could see his crush walk across the small stretch of the room, stopping to stand beside his best friend. She had asked him a question, only receiving a small shrug of the shoulders in response. She sighed to herself in defeat.
In that moment, Ned had yanked out his phone to dial his best friend’s number. He had turned his body so that his backside was facing the large crowd of students in the room. His best friend had answered his phone without hesitation.
“Peter! Where are you? She is asking for you,” Ned said desperately. He turned his head to look over the small stretch of his shoulder, spotting her familiar figure in the distance. He waited for some kind of response.
“I will be there in a second,” Peter concluded. He had this fluttery feeling in the confines of his chest, thumping against his chest in a violent manner. He didn’t know if he was nervous or excited.
With great hesitation, Peter had pulled his mask over his head. He stood to his feet. He had jumped down to the ground, landing on his feet with a small thump. He had started walking towards the house, making his way through the heavy crowd of people.
“Oh sorry,” Spiderman apologized. Every single person had turned their heads to look at the infamous superhero standing amongst them. The high schoolers’ mouths had dropped open in absolute disbelief. The webslinger was currently maneuvering his way through the crowd of students until he was finally inside the house. “Sorry, I just gotta…find my friend Peter,” Spiderman claimed.
“Spiderman?” He forced himself to turn around upon hearing the sound of that sweet voice. His robotic eyes had dilated subconsciously. His head moved up and down her body. His actions did not go unnoticed by her. “W-What are you doing here?” Y/N wondered.
“Oh, you know. Peter called me and asked if I could show,” Spiderman claimed. He had lifted his hand to wave in dismissal (like it wasn’t a big deal).
“No way,” Flash said. His voice was laced in the tone of disbelief. He pushed his way past the crowd. He had shifted to stand in the middle of the room, stopping in his place. He soon came face to face with the webslinger himself. “You’re really him? Are you really friends with Peter Parker?”
In response, Spiderman had turned his head to look over his rival’s shoulder. His large robotic eyes had settled on that familiar figure standing behind his face. He found himself pushing right past him to approach her. He stood directly in front of her. “Hi,” he said awkwardly.
“Hi,” she smiled at him.
“What’s your name? Wait. No. Let me guess,” Spiderman teased. He had lifted his gloved hand towards the front of his face, tapping his chin in thought. He pointed his finger at her. He was able to ‘guess’ her name pretty easily.
“Y-Yeah!” Y/N exclaimed. She was more than surprised to hear that the webslinger actually knew her name. She could only feel her smile growing bigger and bigger with each passing second. “How did you know?” Y/N wondered.
“Peter talks a lot about you,” Spiderman explained. He was hoping that his other persona could score some points with her. He could only wonder if she would give his other self a chance.
“H-He does?” She gasped.
“Spiderman!” Ned shouted. He had found himself taking a few steps forward in his place, shifting through the heavy crowd of students. He just knew that every single person was looking at him. He smiled at his best friend. “Hi! It’s Ned. Remember me?” Ned said with a bright smile on his face.
“Yeah! I do. How are you doing?” Spiderman said enthusiastically. He did give him the fist bump that he so desperately asked for. Of course, Ned was trying to play it cool. But he could hardly contain himself knowing that he would be popular for the rest of his life.
"I am doing fine,” Ned said cooly. He had this smug look on his face. He crossed his arms over his chest. He was hoping to maintain that cool looking stance. “But I’ll let you get back to Y/N. She’s a big fan of you,” Ned observed.
“Really?” Spiderman teased her. He had turned his head to look back towards the smaller figure standing behind him. His robotic eyes had made it look like he was quirking an eyebrow at her in amusement. He could easily spot the bright blush flooding her cheeks.
“Well, kinda,” she replied shyly. She didn’t mean to fiddle with her fingers nervously. She had dropped her gaze to stare down at the ground, feeling the blood rushing to her cheeks. She shuffled on the heels of her feet in her stance.
“Well, I should get going.” Spiderman didn’t want to prolong his stay at the party for his own sake. He placed his hands on his hips. He held that heroic stance for dramatic effect. “New York isn’t going to save itself,” Spiderman came up with a lame excuse.
“Yeah,” she said quietly. She couldn’t help but dreamily admire him. She could only imagine that he was this incredibly handsome looking young man underneath the mask. She smiled at him.
“It was nice to finally meet you. Could you also tell Peter that Mr Stark needs him at the internship at four thirty tomorrow?” Spiderman had tried to make another excuse for her to talk to his other self tomorrow. “Can you do that for me?” Spiderman wondered.
She had nodded her head in confirmation. He did not hesitate to wink at her with those big robotic eyes, which only caused her heart to flutter in her chest. He used his web shooters to swing away from the party. He made his way back up to the rooftop to change back into his regular clothes.
“I can’t believe he actually showed,” Flash said to her. He had turned his head to look in the general direction they had last seen the famous webslinger swing off to. He crossed his arms over his chest. He shook his head and scoffed to himself.
“What’s the matter, Flash? Jealous of Peter or Spiderman?”

Among the Avengers:
This gif made me laugh lol! Not mine.
I don’t know what I wrote here today! No editing just playing around! Lol
Enjoy! Or don’t either way!
The air was thick with tension no one spoke a word. Bucky and Natasha sat on opposite ends of the couch, Loki sat near the window in a love seat. He was leaned back with one leg loosely slung over one of the arm rests. Sam was standing at the counter closer in the kitchen while Clint sat the table alone with his back to the wall. You saw on the floor facing Loki with your back pressed firmly to the wall. Every one had their phones in their hands thumbs swiping and tapping rapidly as their eyes darted back and forth.
Steve, Tony and Thor stared at eveyone confused trying to figure out what they were doing. Thor tried to peer over at Sam’s phone but he pulled back in a paranoid manner.
“I bet its Loki.” Clint said leaning back and propping his feet up on the table.
“Nah thats too obvious.” Sam said not looking up from his phone.
“What are you all doing?” Tony asked. None of you paid any mind to his question. What laid in your hands was way too important!
“I think its Y/N or Bucky. They are a little too good at this.” Nat said giving a sideways look towards Bucky. He just angled his shoulders away from Nat.
“No its not me.” You said as innocently as you could.
“Yeah somehow Y/N has the best poker face when it comes to this game!” Sam said rolling his eyes.
“It’s a game? What game?” Thor asked confused to why all you of you would be playing a game so intensely.
“MOTHERFUCKER!” Sam yelled tossing his phone across the counter. Bucky’s character ran by and called the meeting.
“In electrical! Someone vented.”
“Who Bucky? What color?!” Clint asked impatiently.
“I didn’t see. Just heard it as the vent snapped shut.”
“Well that doesn’t help!” Loki snapped.
Bucky, Clint, Natasha, Loki and Y/N stood around the table. Trying to figure out who the imposter was. For two ex assassins and one God of mischief no one had any clues to who did it.
“I was in Weapons.” Y/N said first out loud.
“I passed Loki in storage.” Nat commented vouching for her and Loki.
“I came from the reactor.” Bucky called.
“I was in admin. I always swipe my card.” Clint proclaimed.
For a moment everyone eyed each other, growing more and more paranoid of each other. The time was set for more than 50 seconds so everyone had time to try and figure it out. The one rule was the dead person couldn’t tell who killed them if everyone was in the same room. Sam knew exactly who killed him yet, he couldn’t say anything. He stood fuming in the kitchen staring at the tiled floor. If he looked up he would give away the imposter by staring them down with occular daggers.
“I think Buck is sus.” You said making everyone look up at you.
“On what proof? I called it!” Bucky got defensive quickly his voice rising slightly.
“Exactly, self report.” You said as cooly as possible. You exuded so much confidence in theory.
Loki and Nat studied your features. Bucky tried to explain why he was not the imposter. Sam covered his head dying to blurt out who killed him. Clint just accepted it, trusting your word and clicked the green check mark for Bucky. The little message in green came up signifying that Clint voted.
You voted Bucky as well and soon the others followed suit. The screen went black and space come up before Bucky’s character went flying by.
Bucky was not the imposter!
Bucky slammed his phone down on the little coffee stand next to him.
“I told you it wasn’t me!” His face flushed a little with anger he got up to go see if he could find out from Sam who it actually was although he had his suspicions.
The alarm sounded and the lights flashed red. The only people left were, Purple, Red, green and Cyan. Everyone rushed to the Reactor room to shut it down. Loki stayed while everyone else walked out. Nat and Clint went together into the security room. Clint checked the cams and Nat stood gaurd next to him. The lights went off and the space that the characters could see to dimmed down to a small circle of light. Nat went to check it out but a red flash went across her screen as she was impaled on a small spike that came from the imposters mouth.
Loki managed to turn the lights back on as Clint turned to find Nat’s red body lying on the ground, the imposter had vented and he was alone.
“Fuck!” He went to hit the report button in the corner of his phone screen.
Loki finished the wires just as you pop up out the vent in electrical.
“No!” Loki yelled as you killed him making the screen go dark before it anounced you as the imposter and the winner while they had their screens filled with Clint and team of ghosts who were defeated.
Nat bounced her phone of the couch and shook her head. You cackled and celebrated while everyone gave you dirty looks.
“I have to say I am impressed.” Loki admitted, he gave you a genuine grin.
Everyone else was impressed as well they were just too annoyed to admit yet.
“Beginners luck.” Sam said making you laugh even harder.
“And you guys trusted her!” Bucky yelled at every one who had voted him off.
“What is this game?” Thor asked pulling his phone out.
“Among us.” You said excited to have Thor join the game. It was your mission to pull in Tony, Peter and then Scott as well so that maybe one day you could kill them all too!

Summary: Nat sets out on her assignment to gather information about the bats, and ends up talking with Damian.
Natasha couldn’t seem to find anyone to investigate, which was weird. Usually, when she wanted to find someone, she did. Nat hadn’t seen any of the other Avengers either, which was also strange.
So Natasha wandered the halls of the manor. She had already checked the Cave, though it was also empty.
After half an hour, Natasha turned to the gardens. She wasn’t really searching at that point, only enjoying the early afternoon breeze. But soon enough, she heard sounds of laughter.
Following it, Natsha wound through a shaded path to find a large lawn occupied by the bats, as well as Peter, Banner, and Thor.
They were in the middle of what seemed to be an extreme version of capture the flag. Nat looked for someone to talk too, but they were all invested in the game. Then she noticed Damian on the sidelines, inside a clearly marked square that must have been the ‘prison’. He looked angry, and seemed to be passing the time by doing drills with his katana. Once again, Natasha was struck by how precise he was.
"Hey kid."
Damian glanced at Natasha, clearly suspicious.
"Hello Romanoff, do you want something?''
Nat smiled. “Call me Natasha. And no, not really. You looked bored, so I thought I’d offer you some company.”
Damian scoffed and returned to his drills. Natasha sat down, and was soon joined by a large dog whom she had never seen before. "Is that your dog?" She asked.
Damian nodded stiffly. "Yes his name is Titus."
Nat looked at Titus with gentle eyes. "Hi Titus." She reached out her hand for the dog to sniff. Titus obliged, and then began to nussle her hand, quickly warming up to Nat.
Damian’s whole demeanor changed at the sight. He relaxed significantly, and even had a soft smile on his face. “He likes you," Damian said as he set his katana aside and joined Natasha on the grass.
Nat smiled right back at him as she began to pet Titus. "Titus is a great name for him. Latin right?" Damian nodded. "You know the meaning?"
Damian scoffed. "If I didn't then I wouldn't have named him Titus. An honorable dog deserves a name that literally means `title of honor’."
Nat chuckled, surprising even herself. "I like you kid, you've got spunk.” She nodded over at the now abandoned katana. Time to see what she could get out of him. “And your fighting technique is impressive."
Damian’s face became a mixture of guarded and prideful. "Of course it is, I was trained to be the best."
"Well your father sure does a good job."
Damian pursed his lips and remained silent for a moment before replying. "He didn't train me. I … was trained by my mother."
Nat looked over at him softly. “The one that Jason blames for him killing?”
Damian scowled. “Yes. My mother is responsible for bringing my brother back from the dead using the Lazarus pit which is … not quite magic. The pit induces its user with enhanced aggression, and memory loss which she utilized to manipulate Todd to her will.”
Natasha sat still for a moment. She really didn’t know what to think. On the one hand, that did partially explain Jason’s references to murder. On the other hand … the woman sounded horrible.
“Why would she do that?” Nat asked quietly.
Damian stroked Titus for a long moment before replying. “My mother is part of a group called The League of Assassins - led by my grandfather - that is dedicated to … saving the world.”
Natasha almost raised an eyebrow at that. Assassins and world-savers really didn’t seem like they would go together well.
“Not like you saved the world,” Damian continued, “But through brutal, unforgiving justice. They wish to reform civilizations across the world into total submission to my grandfather.
“So my mother took it upon herself to take in a newly raised from the dead Jason Todd, train him, and set him upon Gotham. Her point to it all was to harm my father, who is very much against League ideals.”
There was a sudden shout of triumph from the game, and the pair looked over at Tim crowing over a downed Peter Parker. They were silent for a long time, watching the game play out. Finally, Nat took it upon herself to speak.
“I never knew my parents. I grew up in a top secret Soviet-Russian training facility designed to create the perfect operatives, or assassins.” She took a breath as she looked over at Damian.
The boy had shed his smirks and scowls. His eyes were wide and innocent. There was a quality of quiet hope in his face. Like he was amazed that someone else could understand him.
“You’re like me,” he whispered. Then raised his voice slightly. “I was trained from birth. Mother and grandfather wanted me to be the heir. The perfect heir. I was taught every conceivable way to kill, to torture, to withstand any injury.” Damian was no longer looking at Natasha. His eyes showed that he was in another place. Another time.
“We were chained to the bed at night to prevent escape,” Natasha replied. “Sometimes they would make us fight to the death. To weed out the unworthy.”
“Weakness was not tolerated. The moment I made a mistake I was punished. I was to take it willingly.”
“When we trained with guns, they gave us real people to use as targets.”
“Emotions were a liability. I was to never show any, I was never to trust anyone. Not my trainors, not my servants, especially not my own mother.”
“We weren’t to trust each other either. Sometimes they would randomly order to kill your friends, and you had to. Otherwise you were killed.”
Damian sighed. “The worst part was leaving. Mother dumped me with Father - for training she said. I was to learn what I could from him. And I did, I learned a lot. But not what she wanted me to.” He looked over wistfully at his family. “I learned to trust. I had to believe I wasn’t invulnerable. I … I had to learn what it felt like to be … wanted .”
Natasha nodded at him, though he wasn’t looking at her. “Clint was sent to kill me, after I had been an operative for a while. I was the best, so people began to take notice. So S.H.I.E.L.D. sent Barton to eliminate me. But when he found me, he didn’t. He … had mercy on me. Something I had never known. He recruited me. I worked with him, and S.H.I.E.L.D. to help people instead of killing them. I had to relearn almost everything.”
They sit in a comfortable silence for a while. Neither bothering to pity the other. Just enjoying the companionship of another like them.
Then Nat spoke up again. "I'm not good with …" Natasha paused trying to find the right words. "Comfort. But, I understand"
Damian looked at her, then nodded. “I understand as well.”
They sat together for a while, looking at the game progressing. They talked about their lives, and even started to explain their families as well. Damian talked briefly about Bruce’s tragic childhood experiences, as well as Dick’s. He went into detail of Jason’s death and then resurrection. Tim’s becoming Robin. His neglectful family. Damian explained Cassandra’s past, and how Duke lost his parents. He mentioned Stephanie and Barbara, and how they joined the vigilante life as well. He didn’t go into detail, though, saying that their stories were not his to tell.
In return, Natasha talked about befriending Clint. How Steve became Captain America. How Tony built his suit. Banner’s experiments, and how he became the Hulk. How Thor found himself on Earth. What she knew of Peter, and how he became Spiderman.
“Do you trust me?” Damian asked, looking over at Nat when she had finished speaking.
Natasha smiled. “Yes. I’m assuming that’s what your goal was?”
Damian had the nerve to not look apologetic. “We may or may not have overheard your entire conversation after lunch.”
Nat nodded, she had figured as much. The Boy had been almost a bit too loose lipped in the beginning. But she could tell that as the conversation went on, he spoke freely because he wanted to, and not because he was trying to supply info.
“Did you draw the short straw?” Natasha asked.
Damian scowled. “T-t, no. Father said that if any of you were to question us or our motives, we should hold nothing back. You had the nerve to approach me first.”
Natasha laughed freely and ruffled the boy’s hair. He frowned, but didn’t push her hand away.
“Do you trust me now?” He asked, tentatively.
Natasha paused and tilted her head. “Yes, I think I do. You didn’t lie to me, I know that.” Damian rolled his eyes, and Natasha smirked a bit. “But also, you and I are similar. I don’t think I could distrust you if I tried.”
Damian nodded, seemingly satisfied. “Good, I would not want to disappoint Father.”
Natasha smiled. “I don’t think he would be disappointed if I didn’t trust you. He seems quite reasonable.”
Damian outright snorted. “Say that again when I have a slight cold and he won’t let me on patrol. He can be quite unreasonable in mother-hen mode. Not unlike Grayson, unfortunately.”
Nat chuckled. “He loves you. That’s important.” There was another shout of victory from the field, then Natasha continued. “What about me? Trust goes both ways, you know.”
Damian frowned in concentration. “Yes, I believe you have earned some trust. I don’t know about Stark though, he seems … unstable.”
Natasha couldn’t help but outright laugh at that statement. After a moment of surprise, Damian joined in.
“That,” Natasha said between huge gasps of laughter, “Is by far the best thing I have heard in a long time.”
“Do you deny it?” Damian asked.
Natasha was almost crying from laughter. “No, not in a million years.”
Damian smiled at Nat. “Thank you, Romanoff. For talking. I believe you will make a valuable ally.”
“Call me Natasha, kid. Or Nat. Or Tasha. I don’t care. But not Romanoff. Friends aren’t so formal.”
Damian furrowed his brows for a moment before relaxing. “Very well, Tasha. We are now friends?”
Natasha smiled at Damian. “If you want to be.”
The boy pet Titus for a few thoughtful moments. “Very well. I accept. Together, we shall be a formidable force.”
Nat chuckled, ruffling the kid’s hair once again. This time, he didn’t bother frowning.
Just then, a voice called from the field. They both looked over to find Dick running up to them. “Dami! I’m so sorry! I thought someone had gotten you out! Well, the game’s over. Want to join in the next round?”
“T-t. Of course you forgot. If this had been in the field, I could have been killed by now.”
Dick smiled easily at his little brother. “So, what do you say?”
Damian glanced at Nat before replying. “Very well, I shall partake once again in your childish games, Grayson.” Then he smirked. “But I demand that Tasha be on my team. Since you are clearly untrustworthy.”
Dick looked curiously over at Natasha, a small smile on his face. “Sure Lil’ D. Let’s go.”
He motioned for the pair to follow him, then turned and ran off back toward the field.
Damian looked over at Nat. “You will be on my team?” He looked like he was trying to hide how hopeful he was.
Natasha got up and offered her hand to Damian. “Together, we shall be a formidable force, right?”
Damian grinned at her and accepted her hand. “Our reign of terror shall be legendary.”

Avengers Preference #3
How the Avengers ask you out - Plus Size/Chubby Reader
Masterlist
Tony
Tony is a straight up genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist and he has no problem in asking you out. He wants to seem cool about it though but for Tony, that would mean sending you twenty dozen of your favourite flowers to your office and a giant teddy bear. You’d be stood frozen in the middle of the room and your desk chair would spin around to show Tony sitting in it. “So? What do you say? Dinner, 8pm?”
Steve
Steve always gets a little flustered and nervous around you so he would probably need to think about what he wanted to do and rehearse it over and over again. When the actual moment came though, he would forget everything he had planned and would tell you the first joke that came to mind, making you laugh. He would get a little confidence from making you laugh and smile before asking you out, “I’d love to hear that laugh of yours again, doll. Maybe I can take you out some time?”
Thor
After Jane, it is most likely that he would be hesitant to get into a relationship with another woman from earth. It’s also very likely that he doesn’t ask you out on purpose. He would be arguing with Loki about you, with Loki telling him to just man up and tell you how he feels but Thor didn’t think it was that easy. “Brother, you have no idea how much I’d love to spend every waking moment with Lady (Y/N) but it’s not that simple.” You’d been standing behind them the whole time (obviously the trickster knew this) and would clear your throat, “You can start by taking me out to dinner.”
Bruce
I feel like Bruce wouldn’t ask you out until he became ‘smart hulk’ since he wouldn't be worried that he could hurt you all the time. He would still be insecure of course, not thinking that he was attractive or funny but he knew he was smart. He would probably be talking about science or demonstration an experiment to impress you and if it worked, he would nervously rub the back of his neck and say, “Well, if you like that, why don't we go grab a coffee somewhere and I’ll tell you more about it.”
Peter
Peter would have to be crushing on you for years before he has the courage to ask you out and if he did, it would probably be because Tony pushed him into doing it, telling him that he didn't need to be afraid. If you were someone at school, he would leave little notes in your locker telling you all the things he liked about you and how much he liked you but was too nervous to reveal himself. Then he would send you a last note telling you to meet him at a pizza place close by. If you were part of the team then he would probably fight with Steve and Bucky a lot more often, trying to get your attention but he would be so distracted that he just got his ass kicked. Everyone would feel bad for fighting with Peter so you would volunteer and when he kicks your legs out from under you and pins you to the ground, you’d say, “At least take me to dinner first.” as a joke and he would reply,” Really? Okay! I’ll pick you up at 7.”
Natasha
Natasha wouldn't ask you out until she was sure that you were the kind of person that could handle themselves. Being in a relationship with someone like her came with a lot of risks and enemies so she would ask you out after the two of you were sparring. You would finally win after Natasha tried her best to take you down but you had learned a lot. Natasha would smile as she got up, “Be ready for 9pm, принцесса, I’m taking you out. Dress nice.”
Bucky
Similar to Natasha, Bucky would need to know that you weren’t as fragile as most women because he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if he ever hurt you. The two of you would be on a mission with the others and you were both in a barn somewhere killing a bunch of bad guys that were surrounding the two of you. Bucky would have one guy in a headlock while he watched you take on three soldiers at once and win. Before the two of you would move on, he’d gently grab your wrist, “Can I take you out sometime?”
Loki
Loki wouldn’t be so easily persuaded to show his interest in someone. He wouldn’t be against flirting so there would always been a little bit of sexual tension between the two of you and the others would notice it. It would go on for months before you finally had enough. You’d walk into the room where Loki was sat on a chair, reading a book and you would clear your throat and cross your arms over your chest, “Are we going to do this or not? I’m tired of waiting for you to make a move.” Loki would smirk and stand up from his seated position, “If that’s what you desire, my dear.”
Wanda
Wanda would know from the second she met you that you were the one for her and she would make that very clear to you. After peeking into your mind, she would walk up to you, take your hand and bring it to her lips, kissing the back of your hand. She would smile at your flustered expression, “It is nice to meet you, моя любов, but I would like to get to know you more. Can I take you across the street and we can get a coffee?”
Clint
This guy is blunt as hell and if he wants to ask you out, there is nothing that will stop him. He would walk into the room you’re in and lean against the doorway, making it very obvious that he’s checking you out. When you turn around, he’d give you one of his cocky grins and then walk past you, sending a wink your way. He’d call out over his shoulder, “Be ready for 8, sweet cheeks, I’m taking you out for the night and maybe I’ll take you to breakfast in the morning.”

“I’m to wide awake to sleep so ya’ boi has an idea for a fic! What if Peter gets sick but pushes it to the side and decides to go superheroing but that means he is less alert so he gets captured. The bad guys tell the Avengers that they will not give Peter back until they get some money or something. The bad guys sign the note with a special mark that Loki remembers. Loki tries to tell everyone that he knows where Peter is but no really pays attention. So it’s up to Loki to save sick Peter!”
I got this prompt a couple of weeks ago, and I remembered that I really freaking loved it, so I’m going to give this a swing!
Update-- I wrote half of this, like, a year ago, and I uploaded it tonight to hopefully help a friend in need. Considering it literally ended on a mid-sentence cliff-hanger, I went back and finished it, lol
To Peter’s heightened senses, the large outdoor trash bin beside him smells horrid, but it’s the first piece of grounded, steady surface that he can lean against that comes to sight amid his swaying vision. He falls against it with a dull thud, his back taking the brunt as he struggles to catch his breath. He’s winded, more-so than he should be, and his head feels heavy while his mind feels light, unsteady.
He sucks in a deep breath that triggers a bout of coughing, strong enough that he’s forced to slip his mask up above his mouth. He coughs harshly into his fist while his free arm snakes across his abdomen. The coughing is starting to hurt really bad.
“Peter.”
“I know, Karen,” Peter gripes out in-between coughs. “I should have stayed in bed, but really, it’s not that bad. I mean, my head feels like it weights a thousand pounds, and my ribs and chest hurt from all the coughing.” He pauses, clearing his throat. “I’m freezing and dizzy, but, like, that’s it, honestly. I can still patrol.”
He blinks slowly, trying to clear his vision, but darkness is creeping around the edges, and it suddenly sounds like water’s rushing into his ears. He fails to hear the crunch of broken glass being stepped on behind him, and it’s too late when Karen yells in his ear. He spins around just in time to see a large bat swinging toward his head.
*****
Loki can feel the tension wafting in the air before he enters the conference room. A hint of a frown creeps at the corners of his lips as he shoves the conference room doors open. The Avenges are geared up, but no one is making a move. All are staring at a small card in Tony’s hand; no one even reacts when he fully enters the room. He circles around the table until he’s close enough to read the card.
“Stark,
Your Spider-Brat has a mouth, and my question to you is: how much is that mouth worth to you?
30 millions dollars, and you can get him back alive.”
An address is scribbled underneath, and at the bottom right corner of the card is a single “R,” curved, lean, and all too familiar to Loki’s widening eyes.
“Stark, I know who this is-- the address is a decoy.”
“And it’s the only address we’ve got,” Tony says, voice deep, furious. He spins on his heel, shoving past Loki as he starts barking orders to the other Avengers.
“Thor,” Loki grabs onto his brother’s arm. “The address is a death trap. You have to decipher the small note on the card. That’s where the real address lies.”
“Loki, Young Peter is in danger.”
“I know, that’s why I’m--”
“Thor!”
Steve’s voice ringing out cuts Loki off.
“Let’s go! We don’t know what condition Peter is in. We’ve got to go. Now!”
“Thor,” Loki presses, but his brother’s eyes are already to the door, and the Avengers exit the room in great haste, leaving Loki alone. He curses under his breath and snags the card off the table. It only takes him a few seconds to decode the real address, and with narrow eyes, dangerous and determined, he tucks the card into his coat pocket and storms out of the room.
*****
“I have to say, I’m impressed with how quickly your uncovered the true address; however, it may prove to be quite foolish to have come alone.”
Loki says nothing; his fingers only tighten around the brief case he’s carrying. Posing as Stark is difficult; any wrong word could lead to his, and Peter’s, demise, so he opts to stay quiet.
“You must really care about this kid, Stark,” the man-- Roger Riggins-- says. “You haven’t cursed at me, threatened me, nothing at all.”
Loki keeps his eyes forward, yet a scowl pulls at his lips.
“Well, I assure you,” Roger says as he places his hand on the door he’s been leading Stark to, “the kid is just fine.”
He shoves the door open, and it takes Loki’s eyes a few moments to adjust to the dim lighting, but once they do, a hot, burning angers fills his core. Peter’s lying on the floor, one foot shackled to a wall. There’s an impressive pool of blood close to his head, and he’s shaking from head to toe. He’s paler than Loki’s ever seen him, and he can barely lift his head.
“T-Tony?”
“Just fine?” Loki growls. “You call this ‘just fine?’“
“Well, the kid was already sick when we found him. My guys only had to rough him up a bit.”
“Is that so?” Loki growls out. He slowly drops his disguise until there’s no traces of Stark left. He turns, ignoring the blatant look of pure shock Peter is sporting and spinning slowly on his heel until his icy eyes meet Roger’s.
“Well, this is a surprise.” Roger’s tone is cool, but his eyes flash with a panic Loki’s seen before.
“I can see you didn’t learn the first time,” Loki whispers, leaning forward.
“Sorry,” Roger deflects, stepping away from Loki. “I expected Stark to come after this brat, yet here you are. Interesting. Last I remember, you despised Stark.”
“Well, that hasn’t changed.” Loki’s eyes scan across the room. He doesn’t remember seeing any other men when he arrived. “However,” he drawls out, turning to face Peter, “I don’t despise the kid.”
Loki hears the quiet click of a pocket knife, and Peter’s eyes go wide, a silent signal to warn him, but Loki’s already working three steps ahead.
Years ago, he spared Roger’s life, unwillingly. There were too many of Roger’s men after him, so he ran from the battle, not without leaving a warning-- as the small scar that runs from Roger’s temple to his left eyebrow shows.
With just a flick of the wrist, he forces the pocket knife into the side of Roger’s neck, and he doesn’t look back, even when he hears the low thump behind him. His focus is solely on Peter. He’s crouched down in front of him, hands hovering, unsure of what he can do without pressing potential boundaries.
“Are you alright?”
There’s brief hesitation as Peter contemplates the question, but he shakes his head with a deep cough that pulls uncomfortably at his chest. “I feel awful.”
Loki gets to work on the shackle wrapped around Peter’s ankle. “Elaborate.” He orders as he shakes his hand out, prepared to work some magic on this lock.
“Well, I’m not sure if the headache is from the fever or the fact that I got hit with a baseball bat,” Peter says, and when Loki looks up quickly with arched brows, Peter waves him off. “It’s fine. Head wounds always bleed a lot.” He sucks in a breath, prepared to offer more, but his lungs tremble until he’s hunched over coughing harshly over and over.
“And there’s that,” he wheezes out, one hand pressed to his chest.
“There’s that,” Loki repeats, hiding his concern as the shackle falls off Peter’s ankle. “Can you walk?”
“I think so,” Peter gets to his feet with Loki’s help. He’s dizzy the second he’s up, and Loki snakes an arm around his waist, concern now evident on his face through furrowed brows.
“You like like you’re about to faint.”
“I feel like it,” Peter admits.
Loki keeps his steps slow to accommodate Peter’s condition but deliberate. The faster he can get Peter back to Stark Tower, the better. “How come your suit tracker device didn’t notify Stark of your location?”
“Dunno,” Peter mumbles. His head is foggy, and he can’t stop shaking. “I think they did something to Karen-- I can’t hear her.”
Sighing, Loki nods. Questions can happen later. Right now, he’s got a far too sick kid who needs help.
*****
Loki can tell that the Avengers are back when the cab pulls up. It seems like every light in the tower is on, and the second he’s out of the car and helping a barely conscious Peter out, the doors to the Tower swing open, and Stark’s charging down steps with the others close behind. He looks worse for wear, but there’s still a burning fire hot in his eyes.
“Loki,” Tony growls, but the second he sees Peter, his demeanor falls into a mix of fear and relief. “Where?” He asks, taking the majority of Peter’s weight.
“I told you I knew who took him,” Loki answers with a loud sigh.
“That’s convenient,” Tony spits out, but Peter’s hushed voice has everyone stopping.
“He saved me, Mr. Stark.” Peter’s rapidly blinking back graying vision to no avail. His legs are trembling, and it sounds as if water’s rushing into his ears. “I think I’m going to pass out,” he manages before going limp against Tony’s side.
Tony spares an unreadable glance to Loki before he starts up the steps with Peter in his arms.
*****
Waking up is hard, but Peter pries his eyes open, frowning at the uncomfortable pressure in his chest. He pats at his face mask, and the small movement has Loki moving from his chair.
“Don’t take it off.”
Peter slips it away from his mouth, and Loki groans out a sigh, sinking back in his chair.
“Are you deliberately jeopardizing your health? Stark’s constantly barking out that you’re a walking death wish, and I’m starting to agree.”
“I want to thank you--”
“--save it,” Loki interrupts. “And put the damn mask back on before Stark kills both of us.”
There’s no bite to his tone, and Peter replies to the small curve to Loki’s lips with a smile of his own.

New Dynasty Chapter 62
Arachne sat in Deadpool’s lap, holding the Spiderman suit as Peter sat on the couch next to the two of them. She’d refused to let it go. Peter had to get his spare clothes out of the lab to be vaguely presentable. And Deadpool was wearing a quilt that wrapped around every part of him except his head.
Tony sat in the chair closest to them, where he could keep an eye out for the three, and desperately wished that Pepper hadn’t replaced all his whiskey with ginger ale. He looked away from them to the squirming, gagged woman on the rug in front of them. “So,” he said looking at the woman on the rug, “mind telling us who you are?”
A dry, haunting laugh echoed from the woman as she squirmed until she was staring up at him. “You would like to know,” the woman said. “But I’m not going to tell you. Suffice to say, I am The Witch.”
Deadpool chuckled. “I think you got that first letter wrong,” he snickered. Peter gave a gentle nudge with his elbow through the blankets. At least, Tony believed it was a gentle nudge, since Deadpool didn’t actually go flying from the couch.
The woman merely twisted until she was facing the three. Her eyes narrowed in on little Arachne. “If it isn’t the little wall climbing healer,” she purred looking at the child. Deadpool’s arm slid out from under the cover to hug her protectively—but the child looked at the woman without fear.
It was a remarkable change. The girl had gone to be terrified of almost everyone around her (with the exception of Deadpool and Spiderman, for some bizarre reason) to not being afraid of a woman who had almost killed her. He wondered if the others had gone through a similar change, or if it was something peculiar to Arachne.
“I have a question,” Peter asked looking at the woman. At first glance he appeared relaxed—but Tony knew better. Knew from the light way he was sitting that he was ready to leap up at any moment. “How are you not dead?”
“Perhaps I have nine lives.”
Deadpool snorted as the child cuddled into his chest. “I can do better than that. I have infinite lives.”
Peter, with the ease of practice, ignored him. “You attacked our daughter. Twice,” he added.
The woman managed to shrug despite being bound. “There are many people interested in the missing little lab rats,” she said carelessly.
Tony wanted to hurt the woman—but before he could, Arachne spoke up. “We have names now,” she informed the woman firmly. “We’re not experiments any more.”
“You will always be an experiment.” The woman’s voice was cold. “You were made in a lab, created for nothing more than the knowledge that could be gained from taking you apart.”
Deadpool growled and Peter glared at the woman, but Arachne got down off of Deadpool’s lap and crouched next to her, watching her with those wide amber eyes for a moment. “You’re not in a lab now,” she said startling the adults in the room. “You can have a name too.”
Tony looked at the woman again. Was it really possible—?
“There’s no one to give me a name,” the woman hissed at the child.
“So pick your own,” said Arachne. “I did.”
The woman was silent. “Do you really think,” the woman asked in a low voice, “that makes you safe?”
“I’m not scared!” Arachne said. “I’ve got my dads!”
Tony nodded. “She’s got a point. I don’t know if you realize this, but there are entire armies that will leave the field when they see Deadpool coming.”
“That one really nice army left me cake,” said Deadpool happily.
“It was poisoned,” Peter pointed out.
“Yeah, but—can’t die, so—” Deadpool shrugged.
“And Peter can be vicious when he’s pissed,” Tony added thinking of the man still screaming in lockup because he could actually feel for the first time—feel pain, that is. Honestly, Tony had no idea that Peter could be so vindictive.
Deadpool just chuckled and sneaks an arm around Peter before holding the man close. Tony didn’t like seeing the two of them so close (he was still afraid, deep down, that Deadpool was going to snap and try to kill Peter before coming back to his senses), so he turned his attention towards the woman and child. They were staring at each other.
“Do you think they can hold me?” the woman demanded of the child. “There is no place in this world that can hold me!” There was an odd sadness to the tone, like she didn’t want to escape.
If she was from a lab like Arachne, maybe she didn’t. “Fortunately,” Tony said wryly as he searched one of the end tables only to find another bottle of ginger ale, “we’re not limited to this world.”
As if on cue the sliding glass door blew open as wind whipped through the room. Lightning struck around the balcony just as Thor stepped onto it and into the room, hair whipping with the force of the wind. “Good Morning,” he boomed.
Deadpool gave a low whistle. “That was an impressive entrance.”
Tony looked around at the scattered papers and sighed. “I have got to invest in some paperweights,” he muttered.
Thor strode over to the bound woman on the floor. “Is this the one you told me about?” he asked as he crossed his arms.
“Oh yes. Think Odin would mind if you stashed her in one of your cells?” Tony smiled grimly. “I have it on the utmost authority that there isn’t a cell in this world that will hold her.”
“Odin does indeed owe the Avengers a favor,” Thor said with a nod. “Mother will make sure he remembers.”
Arachne, taking a step closer to her two dads, spoke up. “Is Loki okay?” she asked, eyes wide.
“Loki is lounging in his cell reading books, drinking wine, and complaining that his feet are cold.” Thor’s face twitched in a slight grimace. “Odin has agreed that Loki meant no harm with his—prank, and so is only sentenced to a fortnight of captivity.” Thor looked at the small child. “Would you like to see him?” he asked.
Arachne turned and looked at Peter and Deadpool. Peter smiled. It was difficult to say if Deadpool did, since he was still wearing his mask. “Of course you can,” Peter said gently. “After all, Loki is your—your friend.”
Arachne nodded and turned to Thor. “Yes, please,” she said softly.
“Excellent.” Thor slung the strange woman over his shoulder and held out a hand to Arachne who, before taking it, reached out and grabbed Thor’s hammer.
When Thor’s eyes widened she explained, “So you don’t accidentally forget.”
“I believe this will be a very educational trip,” said Thor before they were surrounded by another gust of wind as lightning once again surrounded the balcony.
Once they were gone, the door sliding shut behind them, Tony opened the bottle of ginger ale. “So,” he said taking a drink and wincing at the taste, “how long do you think it’ll take for Arachne to peel away and Thor to start panicking?”

T.H.E. W.I.R.E.S.
Peter and his Friends are allowed to design the compound and couldn’t help but riddle it with secret tunels and hallways. While Peter installs said hallways he makes some new acquaintences who he has to help and gets help from.
Chapter 1, Chapter 3
Chapter 2: Dramatic enterance No. 1
The prisoner took a deep breath, closed his eyes and concentrated.
Concentrated on his knees and legs; tucked away underneath the weight of his torso.
Concentrated on his shoulders; tense and raised up to his ears.
Concentrated on his forehead and nose; laying on the insufferably warm stone floor.
Concentrated on the pain, pulsating in his black left eye and on the ripping, burning agony emanating from his lips, tong and cheeks; sewn together with silver wires and chains; embroidered to look like a wide, cruel silver grin.
"A silver chain to bind a silver tong" Odin had said while watching as the young, terrified guard pulled the wires through Loki’s parted lips.
The young man had shaken all over and rambled on about how stupid it was of him to mention to his peers that he liked to sew, then he wouldn't be punished for ‘enjoying a girl's job’.
All the while the prisoner beneath him glared at the allfather, determined not to cry out in pain and to stay in the present…
Because otherwise his head would bring him back in time to a scene oh so similar to this one.
Only that he hadn't been bound by chains then but by a dwarf, standing on his calf’s and hands, pushing down his shoulders.
The hands sewing his mouth shut hadn't shaken then.
He hammered his head against the floor, with a frustrated grunt.
These memories kept distracting him from the only chance, of preventing to collect more of them.
Loki wanted to scream in frustration but knew it would do more harm than good.
So, he took a couple deep breaths to calm down and began to concentrate again.
He concentrated on the hot stone against his shins and the top of his feet; And on the bruises all over his legs and sides, most of them either strained or compressed by his folded position on the floor.
Concentrated on the heat in the cuts and abrasions on his back. Loki still hadn't figured out when exactly he would be beaten; the periods of peace between the beatings where too irregular to follow a pattern.
Concentrated on his throat and the feeling of dry air grating through it with every breath he took; like sandpaper over chalk.
He concentrated on every fibre of his being looking for the small, tiny bits of magic he held; gathered it in a bundle just below his sternum and - when he felt like he had mustered up almost everything he had left - he began to channel it in a shallow rivulet and pushed it.
Pushed it up his chest, down his right arm into his wrist and from there: past the handcuffs that had until a few days ago, not only suppressed all of his ability to rebuild his own magic, but also kept him separated from his power’s origin and made him numb, blind even, to the magical streams, he knew were all around him.
But the guards had been sloppy.
One of the whip strokes had caught on his handcuffs and carved a small notch in the metal of his restraints. Just big enough to allow his magic to regenerate the tiniest fraction of his original power.
Not powerful enough to heal the numerus wounds Odin’s... "audiences" left behind. But sufficient, to ... say.. Send an illusion to his mother dearest.
Adopted or not, he loved her more than anything and he needed her to know what her husband was really doing to him over the past few years in the dungeons.
She was still under the impression that his punishment was simply isolation and had even send him a few books, which Odin had ripped apart and burned before his very eyes.
But before he could visit Frigga, he needed a plan.
During the time he had magic available again, he had tried to find out more about the Avengers, he had encountered back then on Midgard.
It would be the last place the other Gods would look, as his crimes there were the newest. But that didn’t mean hiding anywhere else was easier.
Additionally: Midgardians were far stricter regarding what did and did not count as a crime; while that might not sound advantageous to his cause, regarding that he had killed several dozen Midgardians. But by treating their prisoner much worse than was agreed upon, his captors violated those morals too. Thus, justifying a relocation.
Since the Avengers called themselves heroes, they probably had the moral compass to see it that way.
But for some reason, they seemed to have splintered and were preoccupied with what seemed to be the aftermath of whatever had divided them.
While he searched for others who might be able to help, the ravenette stumbled over a promising individual.
"Spider-Man" he called himself.
From what he'd gathered, the spider themed hero wasn't an Avenger but he had a close bond to Stark.
Otherwise, Ironman wouldn't've shown up, mere minutes after the aforementioned spider had been stabbed in the side, to bring him to the tower personally.
He also didn't kill any of the criminals he encountered and seemed repelled by it; rather trying to talk them into seeing their wrongdoings and changing their ways.
Additionally, he probably didn’t have a personal reason to dislike Loki; While the Avengers might still hold a grudge against him because of what happened with the Chitauri and the thing on the hellicarrier.
All in all, the spider seemed to be his best chance.
His only chance.
Keeping that in mind Loki focused on creating an illusion of himself on a, more or less random, roof within the young hero’s territory.
Since he wanted to be recognised, he gave the illusion the armour he had worn during the battle of New York, minus all the golden parts.
That way the boy could recognise him from pictures more easily, but he didn't look like he was going in for a fight.
He didn't bother to conceal the glowing that would give away the illusion’s nature. It was best to play his cards open, if he wanted to be trusted.
But he masked his black eye and other injuries.
His goal wasn't pity and his pride kept him from showing such vulnerability to a stranger.
The Jotun was aware though, that he might be forced to reveal his physical state; either as prof for the mistreatment or because changing his appearance drained a bit more magic than simply projecting himself.
And just like that, he waited.
It didn’t take long until he could see the kid swinging around. Loki tried not to turn around as the hero swung by.
Had he seriously not noticed him?
Normally the boy seemed to be automatically drawn to anything odd happening in his vicinity; did an illusion not register?
Giving in to his desire to look around just the tiniest bit, he turned his head a little to the side.
Relief flushed over him as he saw a red silhouette on a nearby roof in his periphery vision.
Spiderman looked at him. That meant that he had noticed the god.
Now he had to hope that their conversation would go well.
“KAREN..? activate ’don’t tell mom Protocol’ please”
‘Are you sure Peter? Whoever that is could mean you harm’ KAREN objected.
The worry in her voice sounded so real that the boy had to remind himself that she wasn’t, in fact, human.
“I’m sure,” he replied; sounding anything but. “If they wanted to hurt me my Spidey-sense would warn me about it”
‘Alright. Just remember that I am calling Mr. Stark the moment they touch you’
Peter couldn’t help but smile a little at how protective she sounded.
He began running over the roofs in the direction of the green shining figure.
They didn’t turn around when the hero arrived on their roof; They just lowered their head and brought their hands to the back, the palms turned up to be visible.
Even though the teenager wasn’t familiar with such behavioural customs, he understood that it was meant to show that they didn’t want to seem threatening and wouldn’t be the one to initiate this conversation.
“Excuse me?..” the younger one started, cringing at how childish he sounded.” Do I know you?”
Great. If he was wrong and this was a stranger, he had just made himself sound like a creep. And even if this was Loki, he couldn’t say that he knew him.
“You might have heard of me” The ravenette answered.
Slowly he dared to turn around; still carefully telegraphing his every move but conscious to make his movement seem graceful and smooth.
“Yeah, one could say that. You’re Mr. Loki, right? Thor’s brother?”
The addressee gave a single nod, taking the chance to bring up his head a bit.
He didn’t like to be personified over his adoptive brother, but rather Thor being the first association than the destruction he had caused while under the influence of Thanos.
“I thought you were grounded, for like.. forever?” the boy asked curiously; tilting his head to the side.
“How fortunate, then that this is only an illusion” Loki replied. He had seen the other one sassing pretty much everyone he had come across and hoped that mirroring that would make him more likable.
Otherwise, he would be screwed, because that was how he was used to speak and to change the way you speak long-term is tiresome.
But there seemed to be no need to.
“That explains so much. But what about the distance! Isn’t Asgard really far away? Or does that not affect illusions? ... Doesn’t matter right now! What is your illusion here for? I assume it`s not just to enjoy the view.”
The Jotun almost bit his lip, before registering that that was not a good idea in his current state.
“I’m here to ask a favour. -Or rather for help.” In that moment he regretted that he hadn’t led into this talk with a prepared speech. Asking for help was difficult.
“For you as in your people? Or you as an individual?” The Spider powered teenager asked, cautiously.
‘And I messed up.’ The Jotun thought ‘Of course he wouldn’t want to help me’
But the Midgardian continued before Loki could answer.
“I’m just asking, cause if it’s something all of you can’t handle, I wouldn’t know what I could do about it. Mr Stark would be a much greater help with that kinda thing.” He was about to continue on but shut himself up.
His teachers hated it when he just rambled on, and the face before him showed too little emotion to figure out if that was the case here, too. Better safe than sorry.
That was not what the trickster had expected.
“It’s not that kind of problem. And I doubt the Ironman would even be willing to hear me out, no matter what I’d have to say.” It was worded as a statement but the prisoner’s raised eyebrow seemed to ask for conformation.
“Yeaah.. You might be right on this one. He tends to hold on to grudges. But we’re working on it! He-..Anyways what can I help you with?” The young heroes body language changed like a boomerang from shy and embarrassed to excitedly proud and back to shy again.
If his conversational partner hadn’t been so utterly exhausted, he would have noticed how often he had cut himself of in this little time alone.
“Right. You see, the whole being .. ‘grounded’ as you described, it.. isn’t actually this. Harmless.”
The shorter tilted his head to the side and the lenses in his mask did a creepily good job at conveying a mix of scepticism and confusion.
“I know this sound unwarranted considering what happened. A-nd I wouldn’t be here if it was only the lifetime in prison that was agreed upon b-but.. It isn’t”
his voice broke and the image flickered, revealing the true appearance of the magician projecting it.
Curled on the ground with dried blood and open wounds covering almost every inch of his back and shoulders.
He had lost concentration a bit as memories and sensations washed over him for a second. Threatening to take over his thinking but he managed to push back.
This was his only chance.
He couldn’t mess up now. Now that somebody seemed to listen.. to care.
When he had gathered himself and looked up, He saw the eyes of the mask before him, wide with shock, and the body beneath it stiff.
Frozen in time.
The prisoner tried to make his image smile.
But it was drenched in dread and sadness. And his body froze; resembling the boy in front of his eyes.
Slowly, the stiffness in Peters body seemed to melt.
A finger twitched.
His arm began to inch upwards, while his shoulders began to sag.
The second arm wrapped itself around his waist, plucking at his suit subconsciously.
And, in a move that surprised even himself, the brunette pulled down his mask. Clutching it in his fist as if his life depended on it.
Peter didn’t care about KAREN`s protests right now.
He needed the god to understand, to know. That he believed him.
The Spidey-sense still hadn’t made an appearance, even though it normally alerted him to anything directly threatening him including his secret identity. *
Like pulling his mask of while people who might tell on him could see.
But he was either too absorb in what was happening or Loki just.. didn’t pose a threat whatsoever.
The god of mischief before him couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
How could a genuine superhero, for which paranoia and distrust seemed to come with the profession, trust him enough to reveal his otherwise hidden identity.
Just like that.
One of his titles literally was god of lies.
“I need somewhere to stay.” He whispered after a few beats of silence “somewhere I can rest.. And serve the rest of my sentence. Without – Odin, finding me.”. He didn’t bother to move his image’s lips.
The spider teen still needed to wrap his head everything while also trying to find a solution for this situation.
“Riiight... Uhm-..there’s uhh. Maybeishould.. no - he wouldn’t” It really didn’t help that to his already frantic thoughts, his super sense started to act up now; Telling him to PUT ON THAT MASK and TURN RIGHT.
He let out an irritated huff before following his instincts.
“Okay. I-I’ll figure that out. D-“
‘If I could remind you who you’re talking to. It may be in your best interest to hand over those matters to SHIELD or Mr. Stark.” KAREN chimed in.
“Not right now KAREN, I’ve got this. Mr. Loki, do you know how to get here? Because I have no idea how to get to Asgard let alone free you. Finding a hideout should be easier.”
His answer was a nod and after a beat of silence: “I should be able to contact . my mother in a few days. If I am correct she does not know of my treatment and will bring me here.”
Loki had carefully observed the Midgardian’s behaviour. Something to his right must have distracted him, for he turned his head that way before putting on his mask again. But there hadn’t been any movement nor was there anything attention-grabbing; just the roof and more buildings.
And then he started talking while scanning the street to their left with his eyes, only to stop in the middle of a word for several seconds and dismiss something his illusion’s ears couldn’t perceive.
For anybody else that would be a clear sign of hallucination, or worse; But he knew that this mortal before him had his own set of special skills and since Stark always seemed to talk to a somebody in his suit it wouldn’t be impossible that Spiderman’s suit was sentient too.
It wouldn’t be too farfetched to say the boy had his reasons.
“And what if she won’t?” the teen’s voice was small and just this side of trembling.
A few seconds went by in which the older of the two just stared at the younger in front of him.
His vision was unable to focus on the figure; But his mind...
His mind couldn’t seem to hang on to anything but the small frame in front of him.
On the hunch in the narrow shoulders; the tilt of his head, down and a bit to the side. On those slim hands and fingers who couldn’t seem to stop plucking on the black web covering the suit. On the fear in his voice and the knowledge that not once over the course of this talk did either of them lie. And not once did the hero lose a single bad word about him.
It took him a few second to gather his bearings.
By the time he was able to concentrate again, he had sat up, kneeling on the ground.
The body in front of him mirrored his position. Heavily suggesting that his illusion had yet again slipped to resemble reality.
He didn’t bother altering his appearance again. Instead, he tried to listen.
What first sounded like a murmured stream of incoherent rambling soon cleared up to be cautious, soft-spoken reassurances.
Things like ‘it’s gonna be okay’ ‘I’ll get you out of there’ and a lot of ‘safety awaits’.
Again.
Not once did he lie. Not once did he use present tense and not a single sentence invalidated the hurt he felt in that moment; like all the typical, sweet nothings people normally said would have done.
It broke the ice giant’s heart. To realise that this young, naïve mortal knew enough about pain and panic-attacks to be aware of such details.
“It’s alright. I’ve got it together again” He said and briefly masked his illusions mouth with a smile.
He got a nod in return.
“Does she need my name to find me? Or should I set up some sort of signal?” the boy asked. Trying to get the conversation on a more positive note again.
After all.
The God’s appearance had pretty much answered his question.
“I doubt she will miss someone running around in bright red spandex. I didn’t see that many people doing it.” He joked.
The teen knew this reaction all too well. Humour to distract from whatever it is you don’t wanna think about.
He would let it slide this once.
“But I’m not in my suit all the time!! What if something happens and she has to find me during the day?! Or I’m not allowed to go out that night?”
‘Right.’ The Jotun thought. ‘Midgardians keep their young under close surveillance much longer than we do.’
“I could show her an image of you.” He answered. “She will inform you of when and where she can hand me over.”
While saying that he had closed his eyes. Exhaustion clear on his face.
“Yeah! Sure. Gather your strength. I will prepare something for you.”
“I can’t thank you enough” were the last word he heard from the god, before the apparition disappeared, letting Peter alone on the roof.
Alone with his thoughts.
Down the street to his left stood a woman in a window, holding a camera.
She hadn’t managed to get a shot of the vigilante’s face. Or see it for that matter.
But she knew he had taken his mask of. Revealing his face to a green shining figure, strangely resembling the Norse god of mischief.
‘well done Jones.’ She thought ‘this might just become useful in the future.’
*I took this from the comics. In those Peters spider sense alerts him to anything threatening his interests, even bluffs while playing poker or reporters and cameras during identity compromising situations.

*Natasha Romanoff was in The Capitol for an interview. She was now three months pregnant and everyone was buzzing about the baby. This interview was to announce the winners of the baby naming competition. The only thing keeping Natasha from being furious about not getting to name her own child was the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. was going to stick it to The Capitol.*
Ceaser: I think we all know what we’re here for. Natasha, if you would open the envelope.
Natasha: Okay, Ceaser. Here goes nothing.
Ceaser: Can we get a drumroll please? *drumroll* Thank you.
Natasha: The winning name for a baby girl is Victoria, and if it’s a boy, the winner is... Triffle. *her face falls*
* Meanwhile in District 12, everyone is watching the interview together at Natasha and Bruce’s.*
Pietro: Triffle? *bursts out laughing*
Fury: That poor child.
Maria: That’s unfortunate.
Bruce: Triffle?! They want us to name our child Triffle?! That’s not even a name!
Wanda: Evidently, it is in The Capitol.
Melina: That’s okay. Triffle is a bit... odd, but we would love him anyway. Besides, Victoria is a very nice name.
Alexei: Our poor grandson is going to be teased so much.
Fury: Have you met this child’s parents? He’ll be fine.
Bruce: For everyone’s sake I hope we have a girl.
*A week later, Natasha and Bruce went to their first S.H.I.E.L.D. meeting. It was held in a hovercraft above the wilds.*
Peggy: I know we haven’t met in a while, but I assure you S.H.I.E.L.D. is as active as ever. We have three new agents today, so please give a warm welcome to Maria Hill, Bruce Banner, and Natasha Romanoff.
Grant: Wait, didn’t she just get married? Why does she still have her same last name?
Natasha: The Capitol already knows me well, so changing my name didn’t make much sense.
Peggy: Why don’t we all just introduce ourselves? I’ll start. My name is Peggy Carter and I live in District 4.
Phil: I’m Phil Coulson, I live in District 9.
Melinda: Melinda May, District 2.
Lincoln: Lincoln Campbell, District 5. I know, shocking.
Lance: Lance Hunter, District 2.
Thor: You guys know me. You also know Steve! *Steve waves*
Daisy: Daisy Johnson, I’m from 3.
Bruce: Yeah, I’ve met you. You’re the new girl from coding.
Daisy: That’s me.
Tripp: Antoine Triplett, but you can call me Tripp. I also live in District 3.
Grant: Grant Ward, from District 2.
Jemma: Jemma Simmons. I live in District 3, but I invent medical devices so I’m always in The Capitol.
Bobbi: Bobbi Morse, I’m also from District 2. Imagine that.
Lance: She’s my wife.
Leo: Leo Fitz. I’m from District 3, but we’ve met.
Bruce: Yes, yes we have.
Mack: Alphonso Mackenzie, District 6. You can call me Mack.
Daniel: I’m Daniel Sousa. I live in District 10 and I think that’s everyone, right?
Gamora: You forgot us.
Daniel: Right, our friends from The Capitol.
Gamora: I’m Gamora Zen-Titan, as you may remember.
Mantis: Mantis Brandt-Snow. I’m so happy to be here!
Nebula: Nebula Lupho-Titan. *pointing at Gamora* I’m her sister.
Peter: Peter Quill-Snow. *pointing at Mantis* I’m her sister.
*Everyone goes silent and gives Peter an odd look. A few people stifle laughter. A moment later, Peter realizes his mistake.*
Peter: Wait, no! She’s my- *sigh* never mind.
Bruce: Wait. Snow, Titan, I know those names! You let the children of the president and his closest advisor join a society to take them down?
Peter: Our father is Snow’s brother, actually.
Gamora: Not to mention none of us want anything to do with the corrupt and unfair system that is our government! The things going on in Panem just aren’t right, and anyone could see that no matter who their “family” is! Panem needs to enter a new era, and soon.
Bruce: Fair enough, carry on.
Loki: I’m Loki Odinson and *pointing to Thor* I’ve never met that man in my life.
Natasha: Oh, are you two siblings?
Loki: No. I’ve seriously never met him. It’s a total coincidence that we have the same last name.
Thor: It’s actually kind of freaky, especially considering we look very similar.
Loki: For the last time, we do not look alike! At all!
Peggy: Can we get back to business?
Thor: Right, sorry.
Peggy: Anyway, we need to take a few more people before we’re ready to start the next phase of our plan. *to Bruce and Natasha* That’s where you come in. We need to recruit Tony Stark, Wanda Maximoff, and Pietro Maximoff. Banner, you need to get Tony on board. Natasha, you will handle the Maximoffs.
*Natasha and Bruce accepted their assignment and the rest of the meeting went pretty well. After the meeting, Bruce was snuck to District 3 so he could talk to Tony. He encased them in the secret bubble.*
Tony: Bruce? What are you doing here?
Bruce: I’ll tell you in a minute, but first I want to know how you’re holding up. Did they ever find Pepper?
Tony: *starting to cry* No. It’s been four months and we’ve found nothing. Well, nothing but this. *Tony pulls out a ring* They found her wedding ring in the ruins of her sister’s house.
Bruce: *pulls Tony into a hug* I’m so sorry. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call. How’s Morgan?
Tony: She’s still my pride and joy. She misses her mommy, but she’s a wonderful daughter. Just turned three. I’m keeping this one close, I can’t lose her like I did Peter and Pepper. Speaking of children, congratulations. I heard about the baby. You’re not seriously going to name a boy Triffle, are you?
Bruce: We have no choice. Anyway, back to the reason I’m here. The government of Panem needs to be stopped. A secret organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. is working to overthrow Snow, and I’ve been sent to recruit you.
Tony: No. No way. I can’t join a revolution.
Bruce: We need you! The Hunger Games, the bombings, the whippings, the avoxes and muttations, none of this is acceptable! We owe it to Peter and Pepper and Vision and Sammy and everyone else The Capitol saw as disposable. This isn’t right and it isn’t fair!
Tony: I know, but this sounds dangerous and my top priority will always be keeping my daughter safe.
Bruce: What if your daughter could live in a world where she didn’t have to worry about the reaping every year? A world where she could see other districts. A world where the citizens aren’t oppressed.
Tony: That sounds amazing, but I can’t. What if they find out and kill Morgan?
Bruce: We won’t let that happen. Just please consider it. These people really want to make a change, and I want to be a part of it. But none of this is possible without you.
Tony: And you’re sure these people can be trusted?
Bruce: Yes.
Tony: Then count me in. For Pepper. And Peter. And for Morgan. Most importantly, for the future of Panem. I’m joining your revolution.
*Meanwhile back in 12*
Natasha: You may be wondering why I shut you both in a soundproof invisibility bubble with me. There is a secret organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. that has been created to overthrow Snow and I was sent to recruit you because-
Both twins at once: We’re in.
*About two months later, everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. was preparing to deliver the first blow. *
Peggy: Okay, we want to start small with something barely noticeable. In order to do that, we need someone to sneak in and grab a secret file. With that gone, The Capitol will no longer have arena ideas for the next few years.The 91st Hunger Games is probably already all planned, given it’s in a month, but this will be a major setback and a distraction for some of the most prominent figures in The Capitol.
Natasha: If we’re doing something against the games, I want to be involved.
Peggy: Absolutely not. You are in no condition to sneak into that building.
Natasha: What’s that supposed to mean?!
Peggy: Ordinarily, I’d send you in in a heartbeat, but...
Natasha: What? Am I not good enough? Did you see me in the games? I’m not proud of it, but I’m told I was impressive!
Bruce: Nat, you’re five months pregnant.
Natasha: Oh, right.
Peggy: Anyway, we’re sending in Wanda, Daisy, and Gamora. Tony Stark has made rigs for Daisy and Wanda similar to what Peter Parker made in the games. Wanda, yours will allow you to move objects with your mind.
Tony: These ones are a lot stronger than what you had in the arena. You’ll be able to move bigger objects and even people. They also work long distance.
Peggy: Daisy, yours will allow you to pulse vibrations through the floor, creating miniature earthquakes.
Tony: You can direct them towards specific people and everything.
Peter: What about Gamora? Are you just going to send her in with nothing?
Gamora: Don’t be ridiculous. *pulling out ID badge* I have my dad’s ID badge. It’ll give us access to everything. Also, I have a retractable sword.
Peter: Oh, okay.
Daniel: So you’ll be safe then? Because you have the ID badge?
Daisy: We’ll be fine, I promise. *kisses his cheek* Besides, it’s a really fast, in and out, kind of mission. We’ll be back before you know I’m gone.
Daniel: I miss you already. Be safe.
Daisy: Don’t worry, we will.
*After they leave*
Tony: So, you and Daisy, huh? How’d you two meet?
Daniel: We’re both involved with S.H.I.E.L.D. She and I met through this.
Tony: Meeting through work, nice. That’s how I met my wife. *sniff* Well, I guess now she’s my ex wife. *begins sobbing*
Bruce: *puts hand on Tony’s shoulder* You’ll be okay. here. *hugs Tony*
Daniel: Messy divorce?
Bruce: She was killed in an attack by The Capitol.
*An hour later, Daisy, Gamora, and Wanda return. S.H.I.E.L.D. is officially up and running, and they aren’t going to back down.*

“WandaVision In Review”
The first of many Marvel Disney+ shows has just recently concluded. With fan theories running rampant, and twists and turns during almost every episode, it isn’t surprising that WandaVision was so successful. However, the show is not without its own issues as nothing can ever be quite perfect. Below is our spoiler-filled review of WandaVision.
My first impression when watching the early (first two) episodes of WandaVision was confusion. I had a hard time trying to determine why Disney and Marvel would take us on a nostalgia tour through classic television series featuring two underserved and underutilized Avengers. I have to admit, I wasn’t overly invested in the project in the beginning. I enjoyed the references to The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched, but I honestly didn’t care much for it past that point. Despite this, I kept watching for curiosity’s sake, and it certainly paid off.
When it becomes clear that Wanda is more in control of this reality than was initially assumed, I was hooked. I’m a big fan of Wanda Maximoff as a character. In the comics she has been a force to be reckoned with and the Marvel Cinematic Universe hadn’t seized the opportunity to really utilize her until this point. It was exciting to see Wanda use her powers in a way we hadn’t gotten to see on screen before, and the ending definitely implies that this is just the tip of the iceberg for her.
As someone who has been critical of Vision in both comics and film, I have to say that this did wonders for his character as well. We finally get to see a more “human” side of the synthezoid. That said, it’s hard to determine how real this side of him was, as he’s technically a manifestation of Wanda’s grief. At the very least, we get to see Vision as Wanda saw him, which is almost beautiful in its own right.
As mentioned above, some of the best content to come out of WandaVision is the character development. While the two titular characters had the most development, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the other characters who stuck out. The first of which is Monica Rambeau. The last time we saw this character she was a child in Captain Marvel, and while she may have been dreaming for the stars, she had a lot of growing up to do before she became the version of her we see in the show.
Monica was another bright spot in the show, she was fearless, and certainly didn’t back away from a challenge. She, similarly to Wanda, is dealing with grief. Losing her mother in addition to the last five years of her life, would be maddening to anyone, yet Monica jumps right back in to work at SWORD, and is often the voice of reason throughout the series. It was also incredibly exciting to see Monica get her powers after being exposed to the boundaries of Wanda’s “hex” three separate times. We even got to see her powers in action, first being able to withstand Wanda’s attack to get her to leave the neighborhood again, and then being literally bulletproof in the finale. I don’t think I need to go too deeply into the significance of the MCU literally giving us a bulletproof black female superhero! It was amazing, seeing her protect Billy and Tommy, while also being impervious to Hayward’s attack. It was a powerful scene that only highlighted Monica’s character even more.
However, what impressed me most about this character was her empathy to Wanda. No one would have been overly critical of Monica if she had taken Hayward’s side. After all, she too was held hostage by Wanda and forced to play a role in Wanda’s show. The experience was even described as “excruciating,” in Hayward’s retelling of Monica’s experience, and yet Monica is unyielding in her opinion that Wanda is not doing this maliciously. In fact, she willingly exposes herself back into the “hex” despite knowing that it is quite literally altering her DNA, with unknown side effects. This was something that Jimmy Woo wasn’t even willing to expose himself to once. During his first scene in the show, he says he doesn’t enter the town because he can “feel” that they’re not supposed to go inside. He stays true to that throughout the series, only entering Westview when Wanda breaks down the “hex” during the final episode.
As mentioned previously, Jimmy Woo was another character we got to see develop a bit since his Ant-Man and the Wasp appearance. He and Thor’s Darcy Lewis, were oftentimes the comic relief in the show when things got heavier. However, we got to see a side of Jimmy Woo’s character that we hadn’t seen before. While he was appreciated in Ant-Man and the Wasp, he was often at odds with Scott Lang as he was assigned to make sure that Scott was following his house arrest. It was refreshing to see Jimmy defy Hayward and fight back, being a key role in thwarting his escape.
It was nice to see Darcy Lewis get in on the action as well. In the Thor franchise she was often comic relief but rarely in the spotlight during action scenes. While she still didn’t do much fighting in WandaVision it was refreshing to see her stop Hayward with her stolen truck, and have her be the leading expert during SWORD’s investigation of Wanda. It was particularly exciting to see that she has earned her doctorate, so she is no longer Jane’s intern, and isn’t playing second fiddle to Jane Foster or Erik Selvig.
Finally, Kathryn Han’s Agatha Harkness is also deserving of praise. With the exception of a few of the films, Marvel has had a bit of an issue with giving fans villains that were worthy adversaries to their favorite heroes. This was not the case with Agatha Harkness. Seeing her toy with Wanda throughout the series was a highlight of the show and seeing her be a full fledged witch was equally as exciting. While Wanda defeated her in the finale, they certainly left the door open for Agatha to return, and I certainly hope they find a way to incorporate her in the future.
While I have mostly praised WandaVision, I have to mention some of the negatives as well. Overall, I greatly enjoyed the show, there are still a few points that I took issue with. The first of which is Maria Rambeau. Maria Rambeau was last seen in the Captain Marvel film and had become a bit of a fan favorite. She was a pilot, similar to Carol Danvers before gaining powers from the Space Stone, single mother, and according to WandaVision the eventual director of SWORD, yet she is killed off-screen from cancer.
While this is frustrating for a number of reasons, I was particularly miffed because Marvel still has a long way to go in terms of diversity in their films, and to kill off one of your few female black characters off screen left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth. That’s without getting too deep into the fact that many fans were hopeful that Maria and Carol might have a romantic relationship in the sequel, and this all but confirms that won’t be the case. This adds another layer to the fact that Marvel has yet to have an LGBTQ+ hero in the films.
Additionally, the Marvel films have always handled Wanda and Pietro’s Romani roots poorly. Not only are the actors not of Romani descent, the culture of their characters is often used as a prop or a joke. Specifically, Wanda’s costume in the Halloween episode being referred to as a “fortune teller.”
Additionally, having the twins willing join Hydra--a Nazi organization while having Romani and Jewish roots, through their father Erik Lehnsherr, in the comics has always rubbed me the wrong way. WandaVision had an opportunity to remedy that when Wanda is reliving her past. They could have easily given us a one off line about Wanda and Pietro not knowing that it was Hydra when they signed up to be experimented on and didn’t find out until later. Unfortunately, all we get is a line about the twins wanting to “change the world.”
One of the other issues that I took was the presence of Evan Peters’s Quicksilver. Initially, I was very excited to see him show up on the show and hoped that this meant we’d be seeing more of Fox’s X-Men in future Marvel films. Not only was he not the real Quicksilver, but he was instead just a long running “boner” joke, as he was Ralph Bohner, Wanda and Vision’s next door neighbor that Agatha was controlling. While I wasn’t expecting him to be a huge character, I was hoping for something a bit more significant than Ralph Bohner.
Finally, something that has been sticking out in my head for a while is Jimmy Woo’s missing person. Jimmy Woo mentions in his first scene that Quantico had sent him to investigate a missing person in witness protection, who lived in Westview. Initially, this was who I believed Evan Peters’s character to truly be, yet when Jimmy sees him on screen in the All New Halloween Spectacular episode, he just makes a note that Pietro has “the wrong face,” and doesn’t indicate that he recognizes him. In fact, Jimmy’s missing person is never mentioned again later in the season and it seems as though that was just a plot device used to include him in the show.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed WandaVision. It was refreshing to have Marvel be able to spend six hours to devote to character development and plot rather than it just being action-centric. I think the show was an excellent first step in setting up a post-Iron Man Cinematic Universe. After Avengers: Endgame, so many characters were lost, and it felt like a finale of sorts. I think this was a great way to continue the story with a whisper rather than a bang, and I look forward to their upcoming Disney+ content.
WandaVision is currently streaming on Disney+.

Infinity War (6)
CHAPTER 6: TRUST
Loki & The Avengers
Summary: A work inspired by @queencfthestarsdrfoster ‘s post of the universe where Loki is alive and Thor is avenged.
Series: Will contain all- and more- that we saw in Infinity War. Will not contain smut and fluff for obvious reasons. Might contain weird humor though.
Chapter content: story time. emotions time. new science bros time?
Warnings: talk about the past
Word count: So my cousin wanted to make sure I knew how to smoke before I wasted his precious joint. I wasted good five drags of his cigarette because I kept ‘mouth-fagging’ (heard that for the first time) but when it came to the joint, I kinda (in my sister-in-law’s words) aced it. Now, this in no way means any of you little ones reading this are encouraged to do this. I am a twenty-five year old idiot who does not know how to breathe right. You guys are better than me. And I kinda impressed my cousin by showing them Tari’s little pet. Hehe.
MASTERLIST & Taglist in bio, my love
“We’ll be landing in ten minutes. You better have something up your sleeve for these people.”
Loki smirks at Rhodey. “Is our beloved Captain going to be there?” The curiosity is laced with pure mischief. So much that even Tony can smell it from the cockpit.
Rhodey crosses his arms across his chest and tilts his head at the God. “What is it with you and Steve? You have a crush on him or something?”
Loki shrugs and leaves the silence to be taken as whatever answer they please. Giving up, Rhodey walks and seats himself down in the cockpit next to Tony, who does not seem as welcoming to the company. “What are you doing here? Go in sit the back with the Grinch.”
“Relax, he’ll be fine,” Rhodey reassures, lying back into the seat.
“I didn’t mean-”
“I know who you mean. The wizard is back there too.”
“That guy is on some meditative high floating about like-”
“Relax!”
Loki looks in the direction before easing himself into his seat. The soft streak of light coming in from ahead falls on his dehydrated and wounded skin. For a simple moment, the warmth on his face feels beautiful. It feels free. This star always had a different effect on him; to the point that Loki closes his eyes for a brief moment and soaks up as much of that warmth as it can. His Jotun form feels a different comfort for those minute specs of time and all the memories of the day he has had, float in the space of his mind. No noise. Just the inaudible pictures running at a slow pace, every grain of colour remembered just as it was. Every fire, every explosion, every tear down the eyes, every tear in the enemy’s skin, every drop of blood lost, every drop of blood avenged. The space shows it all till it brings him back on earth, in this jet, under the sun rays falling on him till he starts to feel a chill on his neck.
Loki opens his eyes and sighs, tired as he is. He knows what is the cause of his discomfort- nothing harmless. It’s just that he is still not used to the little human looking at him with the curiosity of a child with those huge dark eyes and surprisingly not scared of him or judging him unlike his father. Scratch that; from his mentor.
“I know you are curious,” Loki utters, his head still resting on the headrest of the seat, tired of life in general, “just ask what you want.”
Peter’s eyes light up, his body adjusting itself in the seat next to Loki on its own. “Oh, okay,” he begins, making Loki wonder in slight surprise how long has this kid been holding himself back, “why did Thanos use you in Battle of New York? How did he get to you? Like did he leave you a text or something or was a like a proper meeting where he called you in his dungeon? Or did he booby trap you to get there? And once you said no, did he like put some spell on you? And why didn’t you tell your brother about it? Thor would’ve helped you, right? And I heard he’d taken you back to Asgard once the battle ended. So, like, you guys must have talked then. Thor must know about Thanos too. Did you make a plan on how to take him down? Are there more necklaces out there like Doctor Strange has? What do they do? Are they here? On earth? Will Thanos be coming to earth to get them? Do we make up a battle plan to stop him? Will we be able to stop him? If we don’t stop him what’s gonna happen?”
Peter finally breathes, something Loki is surprised to witness. Such concern weighing down those young bright eyes. And to think he once had the same fervour. Once. The pocket dimension is accessed to bring out a green packet. Peter eyes it as pale fingers tear it apart from one side to reveal little violet spheres inside, their smell reaching those inquisitive little nostrils.
“Here,” Loki offers them to him.
“Kids don’t take things from strangers here,” Tony announces from the cockpit. Rhodey looks back while Strange opens one eye to observe whatever it is Loki holds.
“It’s chocolate, Stark. Calm down and fly your toy. Take one while you’re at it. It will help get rid of your anxiety for a while,” the God declares.
“It’s fine, Stark,” Strange adds, going back into his meditative pose, “it’s harmless.”
Peter has already popped one in his mouth, the expression on his face reflecting- without any filters- how good it must be. “It’s better than any I’ve ever tasted before!”
Loki smiles at him, feeling one softly crunch under his teeth. With a content sigh, he begins.
“Before the battle of New York, the last time I saw my family was when I tried to take over Asgard. I had a falling out with my...with the Allfather. And Thor. He was to be announced the king by Odin but I felt it was not the right thing to do because he was not ready to take over that role yet. So, I did what I thought the best. I conspired with the Jotuns. They are...were at one time a species bent on dominating the world, monsters in the eyes of all. I did so to delay Thor’s kingship and destroy the Jotuns once and for all. What I did not know at that time was that I...was one of them.”
“The Jotuns?”
“Yes. I was a Jotun who, when an infant, had been taken away by Odin to be raised as his own. I had been abandoned by my father because unlike those frost giants, I was weak and small and hence a disgrace to the king to whom I was born as a son. So, I was left at the alters of forgotten temples where Odin decided my fate after he won the battle against the Jotuns. I was raised just like my brother to look at the frost giants as monsters; the greatest evil of the world. Once I realised what I was, and tried to do right by...Odin, I killed my father, the Jotuns and when that did not suffice...I killed myself.”
Loki can see the emotions brewing in Peter’s eyes. He notices the silence going further than just these puppy eyes, at the foreign ears pretending to be in a world of their own but paying full attention to whatever history is unfurling around them.
“Then?” Peter is almost too afraid to ask.
“Then the universe decided to intervene,” he continues, “I was supposed to die once sucked into a wormhole. But somehow I survived. I figured it was the accelerated healing due to the Jotun blood that flows through me. Or maybe it was a magic that had long protected me from the world. Either way, I found myself on a barren moon, half alive, waiting to die till it felt much arduous than living itself. I gathered whatever strength I had to walk. And walk I did till I found the lowest of life living in the dark corners. I mixed within, to survive before I found resources to move to other planets and lay low. It was an easy task once I regained my strength. I was able to shapeshift into what people wanted to see. The underbelly of certain galaxies found my talents with magic quite useful, which got them objects nowhere within the reach of normal aliens and I got to live on the highest price paid for my efforts. They did not go unnoticed by the assassins who were looking for someone like me to do their bidding. The only downside was they belonged to Thanos and I was going to be paid in kind.”
“In kind?”
“In kind.”
“I don’t ge-oh...Oh...I’m so sorry.”
“Their kindness came with the price of my sanity. Not that I was a completely balanced being before. But Thanos made sure I was moulded into a weapon he could use to wage war on Earth to get him the stone he desired. The space stone. It was-”
“In the tesseract that SHIELD discovered with Captain Rogers,” Peter quips in enthusiastically before he absorbs the hint of amusement lining Loki’s face. “I uh...went through some of their files,” he whispers.
“Illegally?” Loki asks in a whisper himself, bending a little in the little one’s direction.
“...maybe,” Peter shrugs, making Loki chuckle. “Good boy.” The praise takes him by surprise, but it makes his eyes lighter nonetheless.
“Now, Thanos would have invaded earth ages ago if he wanted to. But he did not do it because the last time his henchmen tried to, someone had sent them running back with their tails between their legs. Some say it was a witch that glowed. Others said it was a demon. And the ones with brittle egos announced that the earth had sent a God in the shape of a woman to throw them off their guard. Of course, I thought they were making excuses until I saw it for myself.”
“How?”
“It’s a whole story for another day, child. But to be brief, Barton helped me understand a lot of this planet’s history when he was under the influence of the mind stone. And Nicholas Fury has been one busy man.”
“Son of a bitch,” curses come flying from the front of the jet, “I knew it.”
“So, I was a mere pawn in Thanos’ plan to invade earth. I was controlled and forced to bend to his wishes of procuring the stone in exchange for my life. He was inside my head the entire time I was here on earth. Except for all the moments the sceptre was separated from me. That was the only time I was able to keep a part of my conscience alive and sane enough to think of ways to survive while making sure the stones never got into Thanos’ hands again.”
The blue ocean gives way to African lands beneath them, deserts and grasslands stretching for miles. The sun directly above them makes the inside of the flying machine glow brighter, striking off every reflective surface it can find once it finds its way through the glass. And in that brightness, a thought washes away those long-forgotten anxious bugs sitting in some dark corners of Tony’s mind. The bugs that had sucked on his own rationality ever since the battle of New York. The questions he wanted to ask the God himself but never had the time or resources for it.
“It was you,” Tony declares as his dark honey eyes looked at some void in the distance outside, “you built the failsafe in the portal.”
“Of course, I built the failsafe in the portal. What am I, a monster?” Loki scoffs in Tony’s direction, clearly being bothered by the fact that it only dawned the genius now. “Doctor Selvig helped me with the restricted technology you people had and I made sure there was a way to stop the attack. And a way to stop me. And not to mention I could not have let the earth be destroyed or I would not have heard the end of it from Thor or his girlfriend.”
“Oh tone it down, Maleficent, you killed Phil,” Tony fumes.
“Oh relax, he is alive!” Loki sings back, annoyed.
The jet feels a turbulent jerk before finding its balance but throwing Strange off his. Turning on autopilot, Tony gets up and walks in the back to face Loki. “What did you just say?”
Loki can see all the shades slowly crawling over Tony’s face- anger, denial, resentment, shock, more denial, fury…
“Go ahead,” Loki challenges, “ask Fury.”
“...you killed eighty people.”
“Collateral damage. I’m not a saint either.”
Only the hum of the engine makes up for this deafening silence between these two that makes Rhodey, Peter and Strange uncomfortable. Soon enough, Tony sits down opposite Loki, taking all three of them by surprise.
“Ignoring that statement for now,” Tony narrowed his eyes at Loki, “after Thor took you back-”
“I was imprisoned, Thor’s girlfriend discovered the aether and my mother was killed, the dark elves were destroyed and Thor was given the freedom to go back to the love of his life.”
“That was you too, wasn’t it?” Tony added without a pause. “You sent Thor away. And if I’ve seen the pattern correctly, you sent the aether away and kept the Tesseract on Asgard.”
Loki lets the smirk play on his lips. He is impressed by Stark’s deductions and the same time is internally a little envious of not having met this man during a better time. The things we could have achieved together.
“Yeah,” Tony nods only slightly, giving that two-second smirk that vanishes as quickly as it had appeared, “smart move. Sending your family away. Keeping the stones apart. Thor told me his father made peace treaties when he left. So, adding to the previous list you increased Asgard’s defences in case Thanos ever came looking for you or the stones there.”
“Stop before you start sounding impressed, Stark,” Loki mentions with a gentle smile, “this colour does not suit you.”
“Rest it, daddy issues,” Tony chimes, “I’m only appreciating your strategies. Not really a fan of this persona. Never have been.”
Loki does not miss the tick in Tony’s beard as his fingers move in some calculative thought. “What has been bothering me is you had it all- every piece of information on that bastard and never once did you bother to warn anyone. Not even your brother. Do you have any idea how much lives could have been saved had you kept your fucking ego aside and tried to make amends for all the crap you put people through.”
It isn’t much but the reflection of the warm glow from the sun outside touches Loki’s eyes enough to reflect a veiled pain behind those few fast blinks and the movement of his fingers on his other palm. If hadn’t been for his own experience, Tony would have missed reading Loki’s shallow breaths, the urge to fight off the tears building in those tired edges, the sweat collecting on his neck.
“Tell me honestly, Anthony Stark,” Loki states, catching Tony off guard for a fraction of second, “Why, for the love of all things alive, did you not tell your family about the threat you saw coming earlier? And when you did, what exactly did they do?”
Tony opens his mouth just to shut it back up, a thing out of the usual for the people who know this man all too well. He stands up, turns around, only to turn back at Loki and point his finger at him, to try and speak again. And again, he fails. Hands on his hips, he clinches his jaw. “That doesn’t make us the same.”
“Oh, no, it does not,” Loki agrees, “it only shows our shortcomings. Battles on the field are much easier to run into than the battles in our minds.”
There is much disbelief internally but a part of him cannot help but look at Loki in a new light. And Tony curses this part again and again for no reason but the imminent truth that comes out of that Silvertongue.
“We’re here,” Rhodey announces from the cockpit, trying to get Tony to come back and breathe.
“Don’t listen to any advice he gives you,” Tony warns Peter, making the boy nod in uncertainty and the God chuckle in delight. Tony goes back but not before he has taken those exotic chocolates from Peter’s grasp. “First rule of stranges, kid!”
“Those are chocolates, Mr Stark,” Peter whines as he watches Tony walk to the cockpit and take a seat.
He pops one in his mouth, feeling the silken magic work in his mouth.
“You ready?” Rhodey asks his friend, “you’re going in a completely foreign country with a criminal, a magician and a whole lot of unresolved emotions with Cap.”
“Yeah yeah yeah, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” Tony remarks, popping another one in his mouth.
“Dammit, why are they so good!” He whispers in surprise, making his best friend roll his eyes and pray for whatever was about to come.
