New Delhi | 1,000 ways to oneness at the India Art Fair
As a witness to the India Art Fair (IAF) since its inception, I have a distinct memory from an earlier outtake — children peeking over the boundary wall of the fairgrounds, disrupting the manicured landscape with raw curiosity and unchecked laughter returned in equal compassion by waving visitors and participants. A performance of childlike spirit flowing across, uncontained. So, on engaging with…

Wait… aren’t directors usually supposed to be the silent voice in stories? -Jesse
Oh, tons of directors are in their own work. Hitchcock, Harold Ramis, Mel Brooks, M Night. Shyamalan, Uhh ███ ████. -Emily
Who? -Jesse
Had a silly idea pop into my head when I heard the dlc for Alan Wake 2 would have Jesse in it, and the idea kept tormenting me enough to finish this drawing. I wanted to work in something with The Director vs a director, but wasn’t able to make it concise enough to fit sadly.

I see so much potential in Zack as a fascinating antihero but instead he gets the "Protagonist's Inspirational Mentor" treatment and GOD FORBID they imply that Cloud's designated Inspirational Mentor had any moral greyness or mental instability whatsoever.
So Zack continues to be a one-dimensional Good Guy who can never make consequential mistakes and is only allowed to show vivid emotions under extreme circumstances. Which is just baffling considering how absurdly fucked up Cloud's entire everything is LMAOO. Like wtf are the writers' priorities. Ughhhh
Man... I just want so much better for Zack as a character. I want there to be SO much more to him. I will always have my seat reserved for the day he FUCKING SNAPS

Me to myself: SOLDIER Weekly is not real. SOLDIER Weekly is not real. SOLDIER Weekly is not real. You can't subscribe to this magazine. You can't. It doesn't exist. Be normal.
Also me: Square-Enix I need this magazine published right now. I need Shinra propaganda articles about Sephiroth, and anonymous column with tips on plant care and frugality and honor from Angeal, and constant quotes and LOVELESS analysis from Genesis, and photos of Sephiroth with Genesis trying to photobomb him, and passive-aggressive quotes from Lazard, and fun facts from Kunsel with his photos always with his helmet on and people having no idea if it's Kunsel or literally any other SOLDIER 2nd Class... Square-Enix come oooooon!

30 Days of Classic Queer Hollywood
Day 16: George Cukor (1899 - 1983)
George Cukor was a legendary, Oscar-winning director in classic Hollywood. His most famous films include Holiday (1938), The Women (1939), The Philadelphia Story (1940), Gaslight (1944), and My Fair Lady (1964). Cukor was a gay man, and his homosexuality was an open secret in Hollywood. Cukor had several relationships with men, but never settled down with a particular partner.
Throughout his career, people referred to Cukor as a "women's director". While he did direct films with strong female characters, this was more a nod to his sexuality, implying that his films are more feminine and that actresses felt safe with him because he was gay.
Tumblr media
By the mid-1930s, Cukor had become an unofficial leader of Hollywood's gay subculture. He hosted regular parties at his beautiful home (redecorated by William Haines), including many gatherings of the entertainment industry's closeted homosexuals.

i saw the tv glow is legitimately one of the stupidest, most tryhard movies i've ever seen in my entire life. absolute dogshit. and everyone is pretending it's the most lifechanging thing they've ever seen LOL give me a break! the gall to claim this is inspired by fucking DAVID LYNCH??? i can't
#fake 'deep' shit for ppl who watch steven universe every day#i truly didnt relate to anything onscreen despite it being sooo aimed at me in so many ways.#i'm also convinced the director is racist and ofc after reading hundreds of reviews. Not One mentions#the main character's race or the alienation of being mixed......... um.#i think people are getting Very Very Dumb overall.#and it;s no coincidence that prior to being embraced by actual trans ppl all i saw was a million NON TRANS ppl falling all over themselves#to be like OOOOOMGGGGG THIS IS THEEEEEEEE TRANS EXPERIENCE COMMITTED TO FILM!!!!1!!!#like god thank you so much for speaking on something you know nothing about !!!! <3#anyway the movie glorifies suicide more than pretty much anything ive ever heard of (including 13 reasons why)#and paints transness as Killing the Old Self. what a bleak and brutal thing to put onscreen and then CLAIM IS POSITIVE????#if this is aimed at kids (not sure if it rly is but it certainly would appeal to them and has the emotional maturity of a 14 yr old) then#its 100% going to inspire suicidal or self-injurious behavior. and it's insane and reckless as a filmmaker to craft this supposedly hauntin#and supposedly beautiful narrative where THE most important step is FUCKING KILLING YOURSELF. it's self hatred at the deepest level.#if anyone wants to shit talk this director with me lmk because that Worlds Fair movie is also some of the worst TRASH ive ever watched!!!#Amy Nicholson was spot-on abt it as always tho so i was vindicated by that

If the live-action HTTYD does end up being bad, how is it going to affect our view on Dean as a person?
Personally, I believe folks shouldn't tangle their opinions of Dean into the HTTYD live action. Or get tangled too deeply into opinions about Dean, tbh. Below are my thoughts in too many words. ^.^
It will be what it will be, the product of hundreds of workers on a project likely initiated out of trend. And that's the nature of making movies. You're hired. It's making art, but you're also hired, and that's not a bad thing. That's a normal thing and that's how things get made. Work doesn't exist in a platonic cave. We aren't working with Perfect Ideas; we're working with what's available to us.
It doesn't make a creator more pure, more corrupt, more guided, more tumultuous, more inspired, less inspired, more of a sell-out, more greedy, less greedy, more successful, less successful, if they are part of one project that wasn't conceived out of the deepest emotions possible. It means they're like every person on the planet who enters the occupation of artist.
The idea of an artist as the independent owner and free-moving agent of all their ideas isn't reality most of the time when it's your occupation. When you are in a fortuitous situation, you may be able to tap into your deepest desires and hopes and passions and inspirations. And that's fantastic! But that's not the baseline. Fortuitous situations are the aberration. We make do with a less-than-platonic idea the high majority of times, and that's fine. I shouldn't be judging a creator only by the points in time where they got to fly in rare situations - and expect them to only exist in those spaces.
I am just as much of an artist when I am writing an assigned essay for a grade in school as I am writing an original work on my own. In fact, sometimes the assigned essay, even if I don't like the concept, ends up the better product. Other times, it won't be the best product; but the nature of things is sometimes I have to do what I can and what I can will look different on different days and on different projects. That's okay. That doesn't change anything about the nature of being a creator.
Dean isn't a deity, Dean isn't a more highly elevated being existing on a plane above my head, and I don't think I should let my opinion of Dean be swayed so quickly and easily. I probably shouldn't have a strong opinion on Dean since he's someone I haven't met. He's a regular guy with strengths and weaknesses like us all, and I should probably approach him with the level-headness that I will see strengths and weaknesses. If I learn about a new weakness? I should be able to levelly acknowledge that and accept that that's to be expected. And on the flipside, it likely means I should keep respecting him for his good, too.
But I do know he's someone who, like me, by the nature of having a job, works on opened projects - some that have more potential than others; some that have more heart than others; some that the creator feels more inspired by than others - and I don't mind. If I do start to mind, it might say more about me and how I think than it says anything about the person external.
Dean was involved in some of my favorite movies. That fact won't change. It was sorta inevitable someone like Dean would've been brought back for the LA...... I don't "hold that against him," even if I am very intentionally not following news on it and you won't see me in theatres on its release. I won't even look up reviews of it in the news or its trailer. It is what it is, and the good facts of life will remain, too.

want to give my two cents on the AI usage in the maestro trailer--
i think seventeen doing a whole concept that is anti-AI is very cool, especially as creatives themselves i think it's good that they're speaking up against it and i hope it gets more ppl talking about the issue. i also understand on a surface level the artistic choice (whether it was made by the members, the mv director, or whoever else), to directly use AI in contrast to real, human-made visuals and music in order to criticize it. i also appreciate that they clearly stated the intention of the use of AI at the beginning of the video
however, although i understand it to an extent, i do not agree with the choice to use AI to critique AI. one of the main ethical concerns with generative AI is that it is trained on other artists' work without their knowledge, consent, or compensation. and even when AI generated images are being used to critique AI, it still does not negate this particular ethical concern
the use of AI to critique also does not negate the fact that this is work that could have been done by an actual artist. i have seen some people argue that it's okay in this context because it's a critique specifically about AI, and it is content that never would have been done by a real artist anyway because it doesn't make sense for the story they're trying to tell. but i disagree. i think you can still tell the exact same story without using AI
and in fact, i would argue that it would make the anti-AI message stronger if they HAD paid an artist to draw/animate the scenes that are supposed to represent AI generated images. wouldn't it just be proof that humans can create images that are just as bad and nonsensical and soulless as AI, but that AI can't replicate the creativity and beauty and basic fucking anatomy that's in human-made art?
it feels very obvious this was not just a way to cut corners and costs like a lot of scummy people are using AI for. ultimately it was a very intentional creative decision, i just personally think it was a very poor one. and even if some ethical considerations were taken into account before this decision, i certainly don't think all of them were. at the very least i feel like the decision undermines the message they want to convey
i would also like to recognize that i myself am not an artist, and i have seen some artists that are totally on board with the use of AI in this specific context, so clearly this is not a topic that is cut and dry. but generative AI is still new, and i think it's important to keep having these conversations
#melia.txt#also want to add that as musicians svt are more directly threatened by AI generated audio than they are by AI generated images#and yet AI generated images is what was used in the video#and i guess the MV director/production company are the ones directly responsible for putting that in there#whether it was their initial idea or not#and they work in a visual medium so perhaps that makes it more 'fair' but idk it just feels like#the commentary is around music. which makes sense. and using human produced music/sound#but then taking advantage of AI images#idk just feels weird#i mean i don't like it either way#like i said in the main post i understand the intention behind the creative decision#and i'm still happy svt are speaking against ai at all i do think overall they're doing a good thing here#i just don't agree with the creative decision they/the production company/whoever made#edit: deleted the part about not boycotting svt over this bc ppl were commenting about boycotting bc of the 🛴 stuff#i meant specifically /I/ am not calling for a boycott because of specifically the ai stuff#was just trying to make a general point that im not making this post bc i want to sabatoge svt or whatever#bc kpop fans love to pull that catd whenever u criticize anything#so yeah just removed that bit bc i dont want ppl getting confused what im talking about#respect ppl boycotting because of scooter/israel stuff but thats not what this post was intended to be about#edit 2: turning off reblogs bc im going to bed and having asomewhat controversial post up is not gonna help me sleep well lol#may or my not turn rb's back on in the morning

Do I own any of the other movies right now? No. But was I about to walk away willingly and let someone else snatch it up? Hell no, it was coming home with me the minute I saw it, it's mine now.
