Crowley gets reinstated as an angel.
title/body text/page numbers: Ibarra Real Nova chapter headers/drop caps: Plain Black

SO. so. I was feeling some type of way about the good omens s2 finale and this fic. oh man. it did such a good job both filling the hole and in my heart, AND, ON TOP OF THAT, added such wonderful lore, with some of the best characterisations that I have enjoyed reading in the fandom. It was wonderful, and I honestly don't feel like I need anything else.
as for the design, I had some fun using space imagery for basically everything. honestly I just had lots of fun doing space things regardless. I tried my hand using gutermann thread for the first time for my endbands and dear god did that take ages. I also attempted to use my foil quill and haha. that did NOT go well. at all. regardless, it's such a beautiful fic that I really really wanted to make a beautiful book for it. if you haven't read it, please do!

Good Omens Season 3 Confirmed (trailer)
jk jk but could you imagine if any of this happened
I told myself I wouldn't go crazy working on this and then I ended up with 5 spreadsheets of dialogue trying to piece together this puzzle. Also I will need everyone to cut me some slack because I made this entire video on my phone while I was manic.
On that note, this trailer is largely based on 2 of my favorite Good Omens fics: Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach by @mouseonamoose and Factory Settings by Anonymous. I love the idea of Crowley and Aziraphale having a therapist and it always reminded me of the character Dr. Linda Martin who plays the devil's therapist in the series Lucifer (Based on characters created by Neil Gaiman!) Also I tried really hard to hint at different parts of the Factory Setting story through clips, especially with clips of Crowley grabbing his glasses (which in this case would be Raphael wearing Crowley's glasses, which is a pretty big plot point in the story).
Lots of the audio clips and dialogue comes from the show itself (and a few clips from Lucifer), but I did comb through some clips of other shows that the actors were in, like Michael Sheen in Passengers, and David Tennant in Inside Man, etc. However the longer audio clips of "god" speaking are direct quotes from the Factory Setting fic (although I am almost certain that Raphael says them when he gets the Book of Life, So technically speaking, these lines are used out of context). I just ran the lines through a text to voice generator and then added a "godly/celestial" effect to it, which worked a lot better than I though it was going to. I had LOTS of potential dialogue I could have used but it didn't all fit super well together in the sense that it didn't either sound like the character speaking, or it didn't flow like a normal conversation. Believe me I tried, my phone can only do so much.
The music choice was obviously chosen on purpose, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Epic Mix) by Mark Petrie, for the purpose of pacing, I slowed it down slightly. I really liked the idea of using this song since the Factory Setting story partially revolves around "the second coming" baby and since we are nearing the Christmas season, it just seemed like sense to work on this now. The lyrics get pretty repetitive but I do wish I could have thrown in the "Fear not then, said the Angel. Let nothing you affright" verse somewhere in there.
Don't ask me to explain the actual plot of this I really just mashed two fanfics together and called it a day. I thinks that's all the notes I had.

Fanwork Friday: Factory Settings
What if Crowley returned to Heaven and was reset to a time before he became a demon? That is the premise of this week's Fanwork Friday, the Good Omens fic Factory Settings by an anonymous author.
Factory Settings is a novel length, canon-divergence story written within three weeks of the TV series' season two finale. It explores Crowley's character and how he has changed from his early beginnings as an angel, focuses on Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship and how lost Aziraphale is without him, all while also having a "layered" plot that wraps up the loose threads from the second season. Fans reccing it have called it an "incredible epic thing" and "an amazing season 3 until we get an official one".
Have you read it? Come check out the Fanlore page!

OK. I don't normally share people's fanfics just because the AO3 search system exists for a reason! But "Factory Settings" by Anonymous is incredible. INCREDIBLE. If I didn't know better (and I do), I would have guessed Neil wrote it himself. I'm so serious. It's an actual masterpiece.
I will say it's ever-so-slightly slow-going at the start. I almost put it down (I stumbled upon it myself; no one recc'd it to me). But I'm so glad I kept with it. It's. Yeah, it's incredible. Do yourself a favor and read it. But only when you have, like, a full 24 hours free to yourself, because once you get going, you won't be able to tear yourself away.
(also, as an aside, there was a fic called "Our Side" by Anonymous, who I believe is the same Anonymous as the "Factory Settings" author, but the link to the fic no longer works. If anyone has a copy, or the correct link, I'd love to get my hands on it!)

Just read "Factory Settings" and it was such an incredible Good Omens fanfic! I really wish it wasn't authored by an anonymous account so that I could read more of this author's works. 😭 But regardless, I'm just glad I had the opportunity to read it and would recommend it to any other GO fans out there!
As a side note, another absolutely incredible Good Omens fic - that is similarly novel-length, centered more around Crowley, and very well written - that I read a little while ago and would HIGHLY recommend is Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma: An Integrative Approach by Nnm. Really can't recommend these two fics more!

You ever read a fic and realize a month later that you've fully accepted part of it as headcanon because it's just that good?
The fic: Factory Settings
The author: Anonymous
The quote:
This is how Crawly learns that Hell will also not be implementing a suggestion box any time soon (at least, not until he explains how to make the concept fruitless and cruel), because Satan responds to this input by picking him up and tossing him back into the fire. It makes an effective point to the rest of the Dark Council, though Crawly himself doesn't really learn anything except that he'd rather keep as far away from Satan as possible going forwards. When he manages to get out of the flames again, there's a war on. They stick him in the lowest rung of the most miserable cannon fodder demons, where he utterly fails to distinguish himself as any kind of worthwhile fighter, but manages to rise through some of the ranks simply by virtue of not dying among his fellows every time Satan decides to just throw wave after wave of bodies at the Enemy. Eventually he gets command of his own battalion, which he approaches as a kind of a puzzle where Satan or the Dark Council will tell them to do things that will definitely get them obliterated by Heaven's forces, and Crawly tries to figure out how to not actually do those things or get obliterated without also being caught out and punished by Hell. They promote him some more, until he says the wrong thing and gets demoted back to the bottom again. In this way Crawly learns that there is a trick to getting ahead. Beneath a certain point, evading attention (and therefore punishment) is still a viable option, whilst getting above a certain point lowers the odds of meeting a grisly end. Get too high and they start keeping too close of an eye on him and expecting him to do things he'd rather not, and noticing if he doesn't, so it's better not to reach that point. But stay too low and it doesn't matter if they're noticing him or not, they'll just throw him directly into trouble as an expendable body. It takes finesse to succeed enough to not be on the front lines while failing enough to not be immediately promoted to a command position either, and one of the most useful things he discovers is how many other demons will just lie and take credit for his accomplishments if he doesn't step in and stop them. Then they get the promotions and Crawly stays under the radar, and everyone wins. Well, no, actually everyone suffers and it's awful and miserable and he hates every single moment of it. But he manages.
Maybe season 3 will spell out what Crowley's ranking in the demonic hierarchy had been in season 1, but if that doesn't happen, this is getting my vote.
#good omens#good omens fanfiction#fanfiction recommendation#crowley#hell#factory settings#this is the only non-wip fanfic i've bookmarked on ao3 before i even finished reading it#because i knew i'd need to go back and reread the description of hell in chapter 12 someday#i'm normally hesitant to put my stamp of approval on something i haven't finished reading (because what if it all goes pear-shaped?)#but this fic shattered my rules because the worldbuilding is master-class#every few chapters there was a new idea that blew me away#(and it's so so funny too)

Obsessed utterly with 'Factory Settings' not only because it's an excellent fic (it changed me and I binged it in six hours) but because
1. It's published on anon, what a fuckin madlad, it has 47k hits.
2. It's s2 compliant and s2 has been out for a month. It's 100k words and was finished on the sixteenth of august. Holy everloving FUCK how in the world. Like I write and I'm pretty fast but 100k words in like 15-20 days is... HUH
Anyway I'm in awe. In conclusion, time-God Crowley I know it's you.

Good Omens brain rot is apparently a family disease.
Having recently finished Demonology & the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma (utterly delightful)… I started reading FACTORY SETTINGS yesterday morning—it was so good that I started over, reading aloud to my eldest. We’re obsessed. Between yesterday midmorning and sometime around 2am, we made it to chapter 36. Today we started again around 11am and three hours later have just wrapped up chapter 50. Kid’s in a half-hour appointment, which gives me time to drink some hot water and do a little pbbbing and brrring to relax my voice before the final ten chapters.
I’m absolutely heartbroken that this is published anonymously. It’s fucking brilliant. The writer deserves joy and hot cocoa and 6,000 years of love and affection from whoever their person or persons are.
