thoughts on freak (said with affection) ivan?
Oh Ivan is 100% a freak. Always on some freak shit. Nobody can match his freak. His freak level is over 9000.
I don’t even think most of his freak tendencies are a result of his life circumstances (idk how to connect the whole blood licking thing to like, some sort of trauma). I think he just… came here like that.
Even if you took Ivan out of the canon universe, the freak would still be there. A modern day coffee shop au would not un-freak this man.
10/10 characterization. No notes.

I was listening to Slipping Through My Fingers and felt inspired to draw stuff about A.B.A and her creator... See, the "creator Paracelsus listened to A.B.A's namesake group while creating her and left their music in Frasco" is a joke headcanon of mine but of COURSE I could make it angsty, why not.
Yeah, we don't have a design or much data about A.B.A's creator but I wanted to give it a try. Honestly, I am not set in a design or story of my own, (not even the gender... Did we get confirmation the creator's a guy? Felt like going with one for this) but I went with slightly basing his appearance off the real life Paracelsus, especially off the portrait by Augustin Hirschvogel, though my take on the creator is not supposed to be the gg equiv of the real alchemist. (Note to self, I gotta practice how to draw double chins in side profiles).
I don't fully know what's his deal nor what are A.B.A's full opinion about him, nor does she, either... I imagine that due to her upbringing, it's complicated, and so would be a reunion. But, for sure, there would be plenty of feelings in her end. :')

Kidnapping being a common way to confess your love in the supernatural world and dipper getting kidnapped while he was just trying to do research in the fearamid library (it has a lot of useful books in there, although surface level information but most of it doesn't exist back in the overworld, and demons barely use it, the demons that do use it really just wants to gain knowledge or read) and then the world goes black and he wakes up clearly still in the fearamid (because he sees that same horrible wallpaper in the background he usually sees in guest rooms) only to see like a mid ranking demon serenading him, he cringes because not only does it have bad singing skills but he doesn't want to see anyone explode right now (who evens kidnap someone and deposit them in the same building? This probably isn't even it's room because only higher ranking demons get guest rooms)
(Sorry for word vomiting
bleeerrghhhghggrh.... hlehrghehehg
Wipes mouth and sorry for vomiting)
(Also sorry for using a lot of these cage thingies)
The funny thing is, kidnapping Dipper and staying in the Fearamid while doing it is like. One of the few ways not to have Bill notice immediately and twig to something being wrong. What with Dipper still Being Around Nearby, and if he isn't responding to Bill's calls or texts or anything, hey! Maybe he's just being huffy about something, he'll calm down soon enough.
Obviously the demon in question didn't think that far ahead, and is in for a very very bad time in short order. Dipper, meanwhile, is likely an old hand at the kidnapping thing at this point to be so blase about it.

ooooo so interested in Treacherous!!
Okay this one is still very much an outline/mess of notes so I don't have any snips to share and it's probably the one I'm most shy about, idk why exactly, just feels like it would be less interesting to other people, so I'm just vibing by myself lol.
Anyway! It is an Anna!Lives AU where she ends up as a FEDRA lab rat for ~10 years and escapes right after Marlene finds and sends Ellie off with the fireflies. So then Joel and Tess take Anna to try to catch up at the state house but they miss them. Tess still gets bit (sorry) and then it follows Joel and Anna across the country to try to track down Ellie and as they spend more time together Anna keeps telling him more and more about little Ellie from when they were together a few years before they got separated. By the time they catch up to Ellie, Joel's ready to level the hospital for a kid he hasn't even met, and her mother.
Fun fact, I actually mentioned this one in an earlier chapter of Stubborn Love. It's one of the books Ellie gets at the library 😁
Thank you for the ask!

this is just a curiosity question bc i was going through your caleb tag the other day and saw that you said that vax and caleb are each other's types, and i was wondering if you'd be willing to elaborate on that?
Vax canonically was in love with a powerful redheaded spellcaster. Caleb canonically had feelings for a prankster, and seems to be attracted to a fairly wide array of physical types. Both are bisexual. It means that they would fuck each other.
If it helps I believe the original context was a jokey question of "if the Mighty Nein and Vox Machina characters played by the same actor fought each other who would win" and this was my answer.

your blog reminds me of that old toonheads show
THANK YOUUUUU AHHHHHHH WHAT A KIND THING TO SAY!! you're actually not the first to make this comparison, which i LOVE!! i hesitate to confess that i've never yet seen an episode of Toonheads myself... key word YET!! if i'd have seen it when it was airing at a more cognizant age i know kid me would have eaten it up
but seriously! i'm so happy to hear this :') i love shows like Toonheads because it's proof that The People Love To Learn!! and that's what i aim for! it just feels gratifying to learn something new. and even moreso to share it with others!! i definitely see myself as a bit of an archive account myself--whether you have all the interest in the world in golden age cartoons (welcome to the club!) or absolute squat, i at least hope that at least one person comes out learning something new and is maybe even able to foster that knowledge further! it's so rewarding. like an eternal scavenger hunt for knowledge!! so it makes me quite happy to get comparisons like these. thank you thank you!!

Hanging vines twisting && turning, they climb the window neatly aligned with sun catchers. From the depths of a crevice, a soft feline cry can be heard, books that tower all over - old, worn, some read a thousand times. Lovingly chaotic he thinks, home where he carved a piece for himself illuminated in the depths of such secrecy. There are talismans, seals, trinkets && idols from home, fresh flowers, all that was in abundance && defeated the sleek yet ultra modernistic quarters spent at the Gojo Estate in Tokyo. This was Satoru, it was not the name that was said in a prayer by the masses nor was it the title of a being that defied limitations. “Damn…” the tip of his digits, raw && cracked from the previous night sprawl over his eyes, the sun kisses his cheeks. One eye emerges from a tuft of white, sprawled across the velvet softness of his undercut, sapphire that leers lazily upon her. “Forgot, I gave you a key of all things” he mumbles, black && purple underneath his eyes, marble that becomes blemished. He’s quick to get up, grabbing a shirt that is carelessly discarded to the floor, in a swift motion, he pulls it down.
There should be cool pomegranate juice in the fridge, flour to make them pancakes, his head is spinning && feels like it’s been crushed all at the same time. From the grace of his jugular, the red scar is seen as the taller frame moves, she’s cute in casual clothes, not an effigy of a priestess kneeling to the modern deity. “I genuinely was sleeping, sorry to kill the image in your head, princess, but aren’t you a pervert to stand there watching me?” he jests, roguish smile with a tinge of fangs, Satoru was always insufferable. Husky voice && dripping with an ease that is rarely seen amidst the public, there was no need to wear a disguise, not yet. His index finger collides with his thumb, pointing to an empty chair, sit - there is no question but command.
“You came all this way to see me or was it to go shopping? Don’t take you for that type of person, I could be wrong” he wants to laugh, I rarely am. Dark sanguine fluid, chilled with ice && slices of orange, placed in front of her in vintage glass, a cozy dwelling - somewhat eerie. A familiar face that he begs to inquire; are you scared, worried, ridden with guilt? Don’t be, I’m happy to see you. Juvenile in mockery he laughs, “A pretty girl in my apartment is rare! Wow, Hime-chan, you flatter me” fresh eggs that are cracked, never asking if she was hungry, only in movements does he cook - innocence in a simple gesture of affection.
“Stay, it’s early in the morning && there is no excitement yet. Plus, it’s better to eat together than alone, a meal is tastier when shared”

I hate so much how the fandom pretends that Arya isn't relatable, or that S*nsa is moreso, when that's not the case at all! Just reading Arya's first chapter with her pain at not fitting in and constantly being negatively compared to her "perfect" big sister had me tear up because I saw myself in that. Sure, I'm not a war orphan and haven't had to kill to survive or become an acolyte in a death cult, but Arya is deeply relatable and human and I hate, hate, hate how fandom dehumanizes her.
Arya is very easily one of the most relatable, sympathetic, and complex characters in asoiaf. Her characterization is so much deeper then people make it out to be. She is also, unfortunately, one of the characters that fandom loves to minimize and use as a prop.
This fandom just has a specific way that they like to engage with the source material which has less to do with GRRM's actual intent and more to do with their personal preferences. Just as you said, Arya has some very well established insecurities and "failings" that help to make her more relatable. She isn't very talented with the Lady-like tasks expected of her, she is always being unfairly compare to her "perfect" big sister and grows to resent what is expected of her because of it, she gets mocked by her sister and her friends for her looks, and she internalizes all of that leading to lasting self-esteem issues. I personally find her story to be incredibly relatable. The thing is though, to fully talk about and understand these aspects of Arya's story it would require people to acknowledge Sansa and Catelyn's impact on her and that's not something a lot of people are willing to do. This isn't to "blame" them for all of Arya's issues but to deny that they had a lasting negative impact on her is going against the story.
It's sad because it means we lose a significant part of Arya's story, and all because people don't want to view their favorite characters as having any flaws. On top of that, Arya usually ends up portrayed as unruly and disobedient for not conforming and "doing her duty" like her sister and mother. She ends up taking the blame for the situation she's in. There are just so many layers to how Arya is mistreated by fandom and a lot of it is do to misogyny (yes even so called "masculine" female characters face misogyny) and jealousy. The motivation for reducing her role is often to make another character come out looking better. That's why people always portray her as this unintelligent, feral child who's "too far gone" and needs to be guided by others to be useful.
The good thing is that George's writing isn't going to reflect fandom's preferences. He loves Arya's character and has spent a lot crafting her story and building up her importance. That isn't going to change no matter how much people hope so.

@snowshinobi Hiiiii :3 I'm responding to your tags on a new post and not the original since the original was already somewhat lengthy, and I plan on being LONG and RAMBLY, but I have sooo many thoughts on what you said and I'm going to say them. Also my browser crashed TWICE (TWO TIMES. 2) when trying to write this post so I'm really fighting for my life out here to get my silly little OC posts done. Also it's under the cut because it's looooong as hell LMAO
Firstly, you're so nice to me forever <3 Secondly, I think you've basically hit the nail on the head. The majority of the issues Maggie has coming back from death and her 9 years gone are really tied almost exclusively to her close family, because she... never really had anyone else. While in-universe it's only 9 years, realistically the jump in technology and culture is around ~20-30 years (Maggie died in the 90s/early 2000s essentially, and wakes up in a just barely futuristic city), but... the most jarring thing to her in terms of what she missed out on is just. Flipphones are no longer popular. Other than her family, she's only close with one other person... who just so happens to be a ghost, and therefore both 1. Wouldn't change much over the timespan due to how long she's been a ghost and 2. Unlike her family, was aware that something happened, since she could see the ghost-of-a-ghost Maggie left behind (The ghosts name is Opal, she positions herself as a sort of "guardian angel" figure, though she's not actually, and serves as just another parental figure for Maggie while also getting after the ghosts that constantly harass her to pass on messages to the living). Maggie has no real relationships outside of her family, and while her relationships with her family are massively impacted by her unknowing death, other than that... the timeskip itself doesn't weigh on her because she had no one regardless. Her struggle to adjust to everything thats happened would've happened regardless of the timeskip for her, because she was such an isolated shut-in that it's the same whether it happened the next day, or nearly a full decade later
Tumblr media
So another very interesting thing is that you've actually completely seen where I was going with everything, in spite of everything I said being very surface level and not actually delving into the plot at all. I completely skimmed over Jenna (She's very important to the plot, but she's by in large a regular person as opposed to Maggie's... everything), but for some additional context, Jenna has a horrendously shitty homelife, so her moving in with Maggie is both a gradual process (It goes from spending time there, to spending nights, to eventually just never going back home and moving in fully), and also serves as an escape for her. Part of that is also, so vitally, the food aspect. For some additional additional context, souls essentially serve as a persons lifeforce, practically every bodily function is improved by a soul that's stronger, though the "strength" of a soul is essentially entirely random, and not dependent on the individuals actions of any kind. Maggie had a generally weird soul before (Seeing ghosts inherently means she has to have something going on with her soul), but when she wakes up after her death, her soul is now even weirder, and part of that is that it essentially lets her get away with bad habits she absolutely should be seeing more consequences for. She barely eats, and when she does, it's basically exclusively crackers and whatever other safe foods she has around the house, because actually making food is a level of care and effort she just... doesn't give to herself in the slightest. Part of Jenna staying with her is that Jenna, without really discussing it, entirely takes up the mantle of caretaker of the apartment, with the biggest task being food prep, Jenna sees Maggie's unwillingness to take care of herself and silently steps up and starts making her actual meals so she's eating properly.
The problem is is that this also kinda... just straight up sucks? Jenna doesn't think much of it, it's something that needed to be done so she's doing it, she wants Maggie to be well fed even if she won't do it herself, and she's already been responsible for making all of her own meals for years prior anyways, so it's just another thing she does. Except that's shitty! Maggie's seen firsthand how terrible her homelife is, and it really weighs on her how even in her escape from that, Jenna's still being put in a position where she feels like she must care for her or else she just won't eat properly. So food is such a massively important thing to both of them, it's this symbol of love for both of them, it's love on the part of Jenna, for stepping in and taking care of Maggie when she can't do it herself, and it's love on the part of Maggie, for realizing how her own bad habits impact the people she cares about and wanting to lift that weight by taking care of herself better. It's also very vital for Maggie because she just... doesn't... have hobbies. Learning how to cook becomes really her only hobby and she puts all of her love and care into it, because for the first time in a long while she's actually passionate about something! ...Unfortunately she also is very very bad at it. She's inventing new dishes like "Burnt Salad" and "Please Help I Fucked Up Kraft Mac N Cheese" and still having to have Jenna come in and help her. But it's the thought that counts, and it'll only be a matter of time before she can make something vaguely edible.
Tumblr media
And finally, the stuff about names! I didn't post it here, but while idly talking about her in a Discord server I'm in, I definitely think that had I made Maggie like even a few months later than I would've done she would've been nonbinary. As it stands right now though, I'm saying she's probably some form of genderweird but too busy trying not to die to think about it <3 Growing up knowing that ghosts are real and routinely being shut down by authority figures in her life about it has made her very aware of how bullshit a lot of things are and how the people who claim to be knowledgeable tend to not know what they're talking about (Beyond just the "people don't think ghosts are real", she's also got ghosts willing to tell her when people are lying because they've got nothing better to do than just gossip) , so if she spent even just a moment thinking about gender as a social construct she'd instantly recognize that and probably take up some form of genderweird label, but as it stands she's just too stressed with Being The Protagonist to think about that
Now, the thing with Margaret. I'm not even going to lie to you, I think you made a better connection to how a name connects with community in terms of the narrative themes than I did. The thing with Margaret denying the name "Maggie" existed for two reasons, the in-universe explanation is that, with the little scrap of soul Margaret has leftover from Maggie, it's essentially working overtime just to keep her vitals working, it can't dedicate time and energy to making her an individual with preferences and a personality, so part of that is that she doesn't respond to "Maggie" because ultimately, that is not her name. Her name is Margaret and she's not going to respond to "Maggie" because "Maggie" isn't her name. Of course, out of universe the reasoning is that I wanted an easy way to distinguish between Maggie as she is the protagonist, and the version of her that lived in the years she was gone, so different names makes the most sense.
I think your connection to how name relates to community genuinely works on a level I hadn't fully pieced together myself yet and I really love that because I think that absolutely works with everything. One of the main conflicts of the plot is how Maggie is entirely disconnected from her family thanks to the years she was gone, with Margaret having no priorities beyond "survive", she basically never spoke with her parents or brother for years. While her family tried to reach out to her repeatedly (Especially given that, while they're unaware the truth of what happened the night Maggie was murdered, they do know something happened, and they believe that whatever it was severely traumatized her, and that's where the sudden and drastic shift in personality came from), there's a point where they just... gave up. She wasn't trying to talk with them or contact them in the slightest, so around a year or two after Margaret moved out, her parents gave up on her. Her brother would still be there a bit, but he also didn't really... try... anymore.
When Maggie wakes up, she tries to call her parents... and they don't pick up. They'd grown resentful over the years, and now that Maggie wants to talk to them, they don't forgive her for the years of not speaking to them, and aren't interested in whatever she has to say after nearly a decade of trying to reconnect with her and being met with nothing. It's her insistence that she wants to be called Maggie that actually gets her brother to realize she's telling the truth and that something happened. She shows up at his door, already something that Margaret wouldn't have done, and that combined with her being visibly upset when he calls her Margaret and tells him that's not her and that she's Maggie, it signals to him that whatever's going on is real (...though he would've figured this out eventually, given that she also literally 17 again and not in her mid-20s, and has a giant glowing stab wound in her chest). I think it works absolutely perfectly as being a symbol of community, her disconnect from her community is what led to her being called Margaret, and her desperation to be returned to that community is when she's Maggie again. So uh. Congrats on getting the themes of my OCs better than I did <3
Tumblr media
And uhhhh closing thoughts! I honestly did still skim over the majority of the plot (Literally never even mentioned Eli or what's going on with her stab wound </3), but I think you reeeeally hit the nail on the head with everything I'm kinda getting at with these OCs, which is... frankly wild given how little main plot I actually got at. Basically everything I mentioned in my original post was the setup, not the main plot. But waaaaugh thank you for being so niceys to me and also giving me another excuse to ramble endlessly <3
#my OCs#uhhh MAGGIE FUN FACTS:#Animals can tell when a soul is weird so she has a colony of stray cats that hang around her apartment door#she doesnt even LIKE animals that much (She barely takes care of HERSELF shes not taking care of any animals.)#but they all like her weirdass soul and keep hanging around because of it#When the plot ends she gives one of the stray cats to her parents as a 'sorry i died' gift#The cats name is Marge- named by Jenna and also specifically its 'Marge' said in a Simpsons impression. any Simpson#It's Jennas FAVORITE cat out of the strays bc she says she looks like Maggie. also Marge is a male cat#Neither Jenna nor Maggie know how to tell the difference between a male and female cat reliably so they assume Marge is female- hes not#Also Eli's the closest to the 'main antagonist' the story gets. hes an old coworker of Margarets and basically her only friend#and Maggie's too scared with her whole 'is actively dying' thing and doesnt know how to tell him 'hey im not your friend- she died'#ELI thinks that Margaret is essentially have some sort of extreme mental breakdown and is trying to get her help bc he cares about her-#-unaware that Maggie is essentially a different person and doesnt know him#anyways uhhhh Maggie attempts to beat him to death with her laptop once. sorry Eli. luckily shes 17 and scrawny as fuck-#-so he's able to throw her off of him but its still. BAD#Maggie's got INSANE insomnia for a large variety of reasons- and falls asleep on the floor one night while on her laptop#Eli- having gotten off work late and going to check on Margaret- who hasnt shown up to work in weeks and isnt answering her phone#-spots Maggie passed out on the floor and assumes shes having some sort of medical emergency#Margaret had left her spare keys at work which he'd grabbed- so he lets himself in to get her to a hospital#Only for Maggie to wake up. With a strange man in her apartment in the middle of the night. Wuh Oh !#THIS time however- when she's home alone (shes not alone Jenna's asleep in the other room) and she spots a stranger in her house-#-she ends up with a fight reaction and NOT freeze <3#also her full name is Margaret Elisabeth Newell and her brothers name is Hawke#one of the very few times i will give my OC a full name- and entirely bc my friend suggested her last name LMAO#also she believes in bigfoot. GHOSTS are real and theyre WAY less believable than 'big ape' so she fully believes it#Opal keeps trying to tell her no that ones ACTUALLY not real and shes like uh huh. sure. ill believe it when i see it

re the system ask game: how does divinity/godhood work in ur headspace? like is their power directly related to what they represent or their followers or is it a fixed static thing irrelevant of everything else or is every divine being equally powerful or something else?
along a similar thread: has anyone ever ascended to divinity from being mortal/has a divine being ever became mortal permenantly?
(if everyone is immortal or smthn yk what i mean by mortal. like not a god or devil or equivalents)
(also sorry if i assumed smthn or said smthn insensitive or wrong im using like fantasy godhood as a framework for ways how ur pantheon could work)
(ofc u dont need to answer or even address anything in this ask u dont wanna talk about/wanna keep private as always :3 )
OH SHIT YOU HAVE ASKED. THE FUCKING QUESTION. OHHHHHH BOY.
OKAY
SO.
up here, every god but three have either been created or ascended from mortality!
the three primordial deities (life, death, and fate), who have existed since the start of everything, hold the sole power to appoint gods and their stations. all three aren't required to agree on someone's ascension since fate was asleep for the vast majority of history, instead it's a 2/3rds majority, but yeah.
a deity's power is essentially based on their domain, but a select few of the older ones have collected a large and/or devoted enough following to gain more power in that way.
underneath the primordial gods are the regular gods, and boy howdy are there a lot of them. they're generally grouped into "major" and "minor" categories based on influence, power, and the importance of their domains, but everybody and their mother has different opinions on what exactly constitutes a major or minor deity and theyve been arguing about it since the start of time so i won't get into that right now.
very few gods formed naturally or even semi-naturally! all of the primordial ones did, of course, but there's also a few that by virtue of their domains already kind of half-existed before they were officially dubbed deities: notable examples of these include Time, Nature (specifically relating to the non-human flora and fauna of the Overworld), The Nether, Entropy, Destiny, and the Moon.
(Some notes on the list I just gave: The End and the Void have no god assigned to them due to the nature of their formation and structure. The Sun doesn't have one dedicated god but instead a council of sun gods who all take turns with it. There are regional Sky Gods. There's also an Ocean Queen (formally the Lady of the Waters), but she's not the goddess of the sea because the ocean and all water in general are kind of ungovernable due to other reasons).
The rest of the major gods, however, and all of the minor ones, were either created or were originally mortal and were chosen by Life and Death to ascend to godhood. It's actually fairly common for a mortal to become a champion of one of the more powerful gods and then ascend to minor godhood themselves later after a while of service.
oh yeah! forgot to mention that earlier but champions are a thing up here. basically they're mortals that were granted immortality by their god(s in rare cases) of choice in return for helping said god(s) run their domain and doing their will down on Earth. it's a mutual contract and it usually lasts for a set time or until both parties agree to drop it, in which case the champion is no longer bound to the god's service and continues to age like normal.
a god being stripped of their godhood and becoming mortal again is a rare event, but it does happen sometimes nonetheless. usually this requires a full discussion by the Godly High Council, but in Extremely Rare cases one of the primordial deities has done it alone for emergency reasons, because they have the power to do that. most of the time it's a vote tho.
it's a pretty serious thing though and being stripped of godhood is not the same as retiring from it. (retiring is common amongst gods who were originally human because the vast majority of mortal minds can't handle long-term immortality and that's okay.)
also, in this case, the definition of being immortal up here means that you have respawn enabled just like in minecraft. that's it. those who die permanently are mortal and although not all immortals are gods, all gods are immortal.
i think that should be most of your questions answered? thanks for the ask! :D
