People like really hate RoE for some reason and I’ve never understood why. I mean yeah it had its problems, but I still had a good time with it. It was fun and relaxing. Plus I liked getting the pretty backgrounds for the different locales.
I also had a good time with AVSP. And I thought the romance was top tier. There are very few that are on the same level or close to it and only two of them are in actual romance books imo.
Slow Burn gets shit on for them trying to make us pay to help different restaurant owners and Everett. But for me the first thing was only a minor issue. The book is fun whether you pay or not. And Everett does fall into their cold, brooding LI category, but I think he’s more likeable than most. Plus it was fun to see MC grow.
Lastly, Hot Couture is and will always be That Bitch ™️
Question?!
Be honest with me, What's your favorite choices book that most people think is bad?
And why?
(any disrespectful comments towards one another will be removed)
#that’s all that needs to be said about it#although idk if people think it’s bad or if they think it’s just forgettable#same for foreign affairs which I also found really enjoyable#I really think people just expected too much from it#bc I remember people getting super hype from the teasers and when they heard about the ‘scandal’ or whatever#but I never got the vibe that the book would be like god tier from those things#it gave what I expected and honestly more#bc both Blaine and Tatum were sexy and hot and fun#it’s rare for me to be attracted to and want to romance more than one LI for an entire book#if I do get attracted to more than one something always ends up turning me off of one#but that didn’t happen in FA and I felt bad for ditching Blaine since Tatum was my endgame#honorable mentions go to PTR and TRH#PTR definitely wasn’t super good but I don’t hate it as much as most#maybe it’s bc I just like travel books#and I think part of the reason why people think TRH was so bad was because the series went on for so long#although the books were objectively still bad#I have too much of a soft spot for the characters and Cordonia to hate it

Ked's right, I do have book recs that you can find under this tag and also some on my writing blog here. I also have a page here where you can see what's on my bookshelf, but you can't filter it because Tumblr doesn't allow Java anymore >__>
I wouldn't call that page a rec list, though, it's just an inventory of what I own or what's on my list to own. Some of those books are objectively terrible and I will freely admit that, but there was something about them compelling enough that I read them more than once.
I didn't mean for the below to turn into me just reccing you authors but it kind of turned into that, so here are authors I would recommend:
Onley James - I love her so much that I support her Patreon. All of her stuff is good (and loosely connected) but my favorites are, of course, the Necessary Evils series. It has two spin-off series which I also very much enjoy: Jericho's Boys & The Watch. All three series surround the psychopaths in love trope, however Jericho's Boys and the first book in the Watch series do not feature it as a main trope because neither of the main characters fit the bill. Most of them do feature some level of kink, though.
Kiki Clark - Her main series is werewolves (but no Omegaverse) and it's called the Kincaid Pack. The first book is my favorite, but I own them all. It's finished and she's starting a new series in that 'verse, the prequel to which I think is The Mobster's Mate, which is so up my alley it's like someone was spying on me. She also has a MC/kink series called Leather & Chrome that's good, but it's not my favorite kink series. (Kiki also have other contemporary books that I love, I just don't want this to get too long)
SPEAKING of kink. Robin (RJ) Moray - She has a series called His Boy Next Door that gay-awakening, age gap, and BDSM-related. It has a spin-off series about two other characters called A Collar For His Brat, both are excellent. The only thing is in HBND, the main character's name is Channon and that took some getting used to. Robin also has other books which I highly recommend--including a space Omegaverse story called Changed: Mated to the Alien Alpha, which is very good--she is probably my Top 3 favorite authors and the fact that more of her stuff isn't available in paperback is a source of constant misery for me.
Eliot Grayson -- The only person I can think of off the top of my head that writes well-written first person POV. The Mismatched Mates series is her main title iirc. It's a soul-bonding / "mate or die" situation at first and segues eventually into "mating for convenience." Some stories are related and some aren't.
Stella Starling -- if you like high fluff and low angst, this is the author for you. All of her stuff is contemporary and very cute. My favorite series is the Semper Fi one but I like & own them all.
Sam Burns (and Sam Burns w/ W.M. Fawkes) - They do anything fantasy/magic-related. Werewolves, urban fantasy, there's a series about the Greek Gods, etc. I haven't read ALL of their works, but the stuff I have read, I like. My favorites / the ones I own: Wolves of Kismet (Omegaverse), the Star-Marked Warrior series (sci-fi/aliens), & Wolf Moon Rising (Omegaverse).
Ella Frank (and Ella Frank w/ Brooke Blaine) - Contemporary writer(s) that specialize in writing multiple books for the same couple. There's a lot of gay/bi-awakening. The Temptation series is a fantastic audiobook journey that I cannot recommend enough, that narrator was amazing. I also really liked the first three Fallen Angel books are about the same couple and I love them, the fourth FA book is about a different couple and I DNFed it. Couldn't say why, it just didn't hold my interest.
...I have more, but I should probably work at some point this morning. So if you want more / want a specific rec for a specific trope or genre, lemme know!

An opinion to be rated, A book should not have multiple Li's if most are sidelined for one.
Send me unpopular or popular opinions about anything Choices and/or HSS related, and I will rate them on the aforementioned scale and elaborate if possible
My Rating of this opinion:
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
My Elaboration below:
On one hand, I do get where this opinion comes from. When a book favors a specific LI and sidelines the rest, it's just like, why even bother having the other LIs when you clearly only care about one of them? It cheapens the character development of the other LIs, and makes them feel like they're just "backup" LIs, for "just in case you don't like the main LI". It feels like it's only multi-LI out of obligation rather than because it actually wants to have multiple LIs.
And more often than not, most "main LIs" don't need to be the "main LI". With something like Liam in TRR, I kind of get it because he's being required to find a suitor and there'd be no point for MC to come to Cordonia otherwise. But characters like Logan in ROD, Rory in HSS:CA 1, Ethan in OpH... I get why they might have a larger role in the storyline than other LIs, but from a romantic route standpoint there's still zero justification for pushing theirs above the other LIs' or forcing MC to be attracted to them.
And it's especially bad if you prefer to romance the female LIs. Most of these kinds of books with forced "main LIs" not only never have a canon female LI be the "main LI", but there's generally only one female LI in the whole lot. As others have said, many books are already "single LI stories" for f!LI romancers, and when said solo f!LI gets little screentime? Then the story just fucks you over from like three different angles.
That being said, I disagree with this opinion mainly because I'm of the belief that having multiple LIs but most of them sidelined is still better than having no LI choice at all. Even if you don't like a particular main LI or token f!LI, you still at least have some agency to avoid them and choose your romantic endgame. Whereas you never get that with single LIs, so you're just completely shafted if you don't like the single customizable LI. Theoretically, PB COULD offer platonic routes with the single LI, and if they did that my opinion might somewhat change, but since they don't... yeah.
But like I said, I get why people might hold this opinion. So I do think that if PB absolutely needs a "main LI" in a multiple LI book, at least make them GOC like Blaine in FA or Rory in HSS:CA. And if PB absolutely needs a book to be single LI, well, it probably doesn't actually need that lol.
Though ideally, of course, PB should be giving all their LIs equal focus.

"Unbridled captured my attention initially because it was supposed to have two non-GOC LIs (after a bunch of single-LI books). I also generally like LIs who are more peppy and openly friendly, so I knew I would like Mandy. Then the story actually came out and tugged at my heartstrings a bit with MC's backstory. And then the MC-Ryder-Mandy dynamics sealed the deal for me. I'm also not big on the newbie MC, but Ryder's support and Mandy being their biggest hype woman kind of makes up for that for me. They have a bickering but loving little found family vibe which I'm enjoying a lot."
This whole paragraph is it for me. I like having multiple LIs, especially in a smut book: no point in being a mega hoe if that energy is only directed towards one person. Plus, I like having non-custom LIs (or a mix like FA with Blaine vs Ayna and Tatum or more aptly LoA with Gabe vs Aislinn). I generally enjoy the 2 LI books because they make the LIs play off each other well (Gabe vs Cas, Arthur vs Lancelot, Rainier vs Kaine, etc). I also like LIs who are anything but broody and stoic, whether they're shy and sweet like Nia or more charming and boisterous like Charlie from DS.
It also didn't have the POS that was Austin. Honestly, UB is one of my fav smut books and UT is one of my least fav smut books which is super funny
Yeah, I get you completely! Broody and stoic is the one type of LI I can (almost) never get into, and there are soooo many of them 😩 It's another reason I like multi-LI books, because in those I have the option to choose literally anything but that lol.
Also, Austin was so annoying to me fr. The constant infantilization (both from him AND Kit) is what really sucked all of the joy out of the book for me, it was soooooo frustrating. Like, I understand it had to be there to create conflict yada yada, but personally? I just wanted to reach out through the screen, grab Austin/Kit by the shoulders and tell them both to shut the fuck up 🤣

PROGRAMMA TIME ZONES 2023
XXXVIII EDIZIONE
A BARI
DAL 15 SETTEMBRE AL 14 OTTOBRE
TRA I PROTAGONISTI DELL’EDIZIONE 2023 BLAINE REININGER
CO-FONDATORE DEI TUXEDOMOON, FAUST, UN OMAGGIO A ITALO CALVINO
E “LITERATURE” CON LA COMPAGNIA DIAGHILEV
www.timezones.it

Find A Song about lacking control over your own position in life
Ben Gregory - manifest*
After releasing two widely-acclaimed albums with his previous band Blaenavon, Ben Gregory has just announced his debut solo album Episode (due on 7th April) alongside the first track ‘manifest*’. The album is deeply personal, created during Gregory’s period of recovery in a psychiatric hospital. Breath-taking instrumentals, dark and insightful lyrics as well as his signature genre-bending style came together to create Episode, with the help of producer and old friend Blaine Harrison of Mystery Jets and engineer Matt Twaites.
Ben explains: “‘manifest*’ is about feeling fated to certain situations and lacking control over your own position in life. It looks towards a potential future that is desired but unlikely, focused on a partner and an imagined future family. There are elements of a slightly tragic fixation in there. The narrative retelling is real but it questions itself and cannot commit to painting an impossible future. The attempt was to portray this process of recollection, because people choose how they shape their own memories.”
The accompanying music video transports you to gloomy scenes in Berlin, alternating between urban cityscapes and dusky rural scenes.
