Ina Kingsley x MC: I’m not needed, never will I be - Part 4
Summary: Ina starts to notice something is off with Raven, but will she finally tell her the truth or bury it deep inside to burn her?
Warnings: ANGST, negative thoughts, swearing, maybe a sprinkle of fluff, hurt Raven & Ina
Tags: @kulaykape @ikingsley @domakir @remnantsofthepast-if @loyalshrimpfan @barnibumblr @alleycat97 @blaine-hayes @swimmingshoebakerydreamer @luthorsxrojas @darlingnikki-prince @dowhatisaynotwhatido
Author’s Notes: It mentions some of Raven’s negative thoughts. If you are uncomfortable with it, I advise you not to read it. This does not affect the other stories, think of it as an alternate universe or something- It mentions some characters from previous fics. For those who have read it, I hope you enjoy it. It has not been proofread, although feedback is appreciated if you message me privately. I will edit it later. This series seems to continue as long as I have ideas for ending it.
*Present day*
“Wait, pause. You started to overthink and instead of telling Ina that she came by. You just left it at that? Talk about immatureness and not being able to communicate.”
“I know, I just couldn’t help but think she was right. Ina deserves better than to be with someone like me. What if SHE gets bored with me or realizes that she will wait too long for me to be stable enough in my future? Those thoughts just flooded inside of my head.”
************
“Ina, are you going to come eat?”
She was too focused on her laptop and had her earbuds on full volume where she couldn’t hear Raven. She approached the seated woman, who flinched from the sudden scare.
“Sorry love, I wanted to finish this report for the publisher.”
Raven bent down to wrap her arms around her, causing her to lean back into her.
“That’s okay, I wanted to know if you’ll join me for dinner. Maybe we can watch a movie..”
She trails off with her words, moving to place kisses on her neck, causing Ina to tilt her head for more.
“I will but the publisher wanted some parts done by tonight. It will take me a while and I don’t want you to wait for me.”
“I can sit with you, as you work.”
“I know love, but I don’t want you to lose your sleep and you are also very distracting, Rae…”
Ina gently pushes Raven back from her hands wandering further and turns her attention back to the laptop. Raven shook away the rejection, handed Ina the food, and continued with her night. But she is unable to sleep, troubled thoughts taunt her mind. She tossed and turned, unable to sleep alone. She glanced at the clock that read 2:23 am and gave up on her battle of trying to sleep, she got up lazily to search for Ina.
“Rae, it’s late! You’re not asleep yet?”
“You’re still working this late?”
“I’m done, just finishing this email and then I’ll join you.”
“It’s okay, I can wait here.”
Raven pulled out the chair opposite Ina and got comfortable. Although there was comfort when in Ina’s presence, her mind and heart felt heavy with thoughts.
“Ina? Are you done yet?”
“Give me a second.”
A few more taps on her keyboard and she was done.
“There. Full attention for you.”
“I’m sorry, I just wanted to talk.”
This made Ina worry and cross over to sit in the chair next to Raven.
“It’s not as serious as it sounds, Ina. I just wanted to ask if you’re happy, in general.”
“It sure seems to be serious, Raven.” Ina teased.
“I’m happy, Rae. Truly. I’m just worried about why this is suddenly surfacing right now.”
“It’s just I know you’re busy, you have a career and you’re working yourself up through the network. I feel that maybe you’re better off with someone who is at the same stage as you.”
Raven’s eyes start to tear up, embarrassment starts to fill her up which makes her face turn red. She tilts her head down and out of the way, unable to face Ina, of the foul thoughts flowing through her. Ina grabs her hand causing Raven to look back in her direction.
“Raven, I want you to know I don’t think anything like that. You’ve already mentioned this when I said the same thing. I think we’re doing okay. Unless you feel different?”
“I don’t, I’m only afraid you will. It’s hard to explain clearly, but I feel you’d want someone in the same life stage as you, able to settle down with a full career. Whereas, I’m just starting.”
Ina’s heart cracks when she sees her partner in a painful war with themself. She was unsure of how to quell her fears, such fears were dangerous to their hope of a future together. But she knew at that moment that she wanted to be with Raven. She brings her chair closer to the other, holding Raven’s face in between her palms, and places gentle kisses atop her forehead and down her nose. Ina allowed the moment to sink in while their foreheads touched each others.
“Raven, I do want a future with you. It doesn’t matter if you are still establishing yourself, we can work through it together.”
Although Raven felt reassured at the moment, she had a feeling that things would start to change now that Ina was aware of the problem. She had a feeling that Ina would realize, that maybe, they wouldn’t be able to work through this together.

to whoever gets me: PLEASE look through my account for my art on the first two. my versions, especially of blaine and kennedy, are nothing like the in game versions (blaine is indigenous and kennedy is black, but the sprites provided are not similar at all). bryce is similar to in-game, but jensen has a bit of customization/stylization to him. i do not have references out for finn, but for a brief description hes leaning towards heavier set, his mixed (black and hispanic), and his hair is usually dyed purple :). here are some examples for the others:

Could you do one for Blaine and MC? Prompt: stress
the glare of the sun makes it difficult to see the expression on her mother's face where it's waiting expectantly on her phone screen, so it’s a little easier for kennedy to grit out, “for the last time, no -- i’m on vacation.”
kennedy hangs up with a sigh, rubbing at her temples; the beach chair she’s stretched out across doesn’t so much as creak as she stretches out again luxuriously under the sun -- as it should, with what this week away is costing them (although she’s starting to sorely regret not letting blaine win the argument that would have brought them to a cellphone-and-wifi-less mountaintop cabin instead).
as if conjured from her thoughts, a shadow falls over her, and a tanned hand holding a frosty frozen drink with a pineapple wedge speared through its top waves invitingly in her face; kennedy lifts her eyes to meet the gaze of her boyfriend, only to have every last drop of stress melt away under the sweet warmth of his smile.

•─────────────────•
Her cheek slipped out of the palm of her hand, forehead smacking the desk, nearly jumping out of her skin at the abrupt awakening.
“Ow.”
She prodded the tender spot on her face, thankful her foundation was thick.
A soft snore caught her attention – next to her, Blaine was passed out. Leaning back in his chair, his head was thrown back, arms crossed against his chest, the textbook on its face in his lap.
“Hey, Blaine,” she whispered, barely audible over his snores, shaking his arm gently. “Blaine. Blaine –”
She shoved his arm, and he stirred, eyes popping open. He sat up too quickly, his knee hitting the edge of the table. “Shit –”
“Shhh,” she shushed him, jabbing a thumb towards the front desk, which was unoccupied. “I think we’re the last ones in here.”
“Huh,” he yawned, rubbing his eye with one hand.
“Hey!” She said, noticing the sound of crinkling in his lap. She snatched it up by the spine, furiously smoothing out the pages with flattened palms. “This is a priceless Rutherland book. There aren’t that many copies of this volume as is, and this is the original print. Be careful.”
“If you wanted to feel me up, you could’ve just said so,” he smirked, voice gritty and just the right amount of rasp to send a tingle up her spine.
“In your dreams.”
The last thing she remembered was skimming an old Ardonian textbook, fighting sleep as she tried soaking in as much as she could.
“Yeah, I saw you there, Carina,” he teased. “You were pretty wild.”
She rolled her eyes, flipping to a new page in her notepad, jotting down their textbook titles. “Do you remember where you stopped?”
“Nope. Most boring history book I’ve ever read,” he said, through another yawn.
Blaine was clearly a fast learner – he’d known how much the whole “Ardona versus Rutherland” thing had bothered her, so he set out to make that the one thing he teased her relentlessly about.
“Yeah, alright. You say that like reading about –” she flipped back a few pages, “‘Ardonian formal wear’ is somehow more interesting. If I have to read another page about the vast variations of lapels and cufflinks, I’m going to throw up.”
He shrugged. “There’s more exciting stuff. You just need to know where to look.”
“Okay, then show me.”
“Isn’t the library closing or something?” He stretched lazily, gesturing towards the empty desks and tables around them.
“Not for another…” she trailed off, shaking her wrist to readjust her watch. “Thirty minutes.”
“If it gets us out of here faster, I’ll assign you all the homework you want,” he said, scooting back from his chair, raising his hands above his head in a final, full body stretch, his hoodie lifting just above the belt of his jeans, her gaze roaming the thin line of hair below his belly button.
She averted her gaze, silently thanking herself for not being so obvious that he noticed her gawking.
She followed suit, trailing behind him with a stack of hardbacks in her arms, sliding them back in place as they stalked deeper and deeper into the maze of books.
“Right… here,” he said, dragging a finger across the spines, settling on a large, thick one right smack in the middle of the shelf.
He gently tugged it out of place, flipping the cover to show it to her. “This is a favorite.”
“Henrietta Hayes,” she read the cover, gently taking the book from his hands, ignoring the spark when their fingers brushed.
“Yep,” he said, leaning up against the bookshelf. “I much prefer biographies. More of a connection.”
She nodded. “Agreed.”
She turned the withered pages with a delicate touch, skimming as she went. “So you’re related to her?” “Yeah. She’s a great-great-great-great somebody,” he shrugged. “My parents didn’t have time to manually shove Ardonian history down my throat, so they settled for the next best thing – gifting me a stack of biographies for my thirteenth birthday.”
She grimaced. “That’s rough. You probably wanted a PlayStation or something, huh?”
He laughed breathily, the rasp from his sleepiness still lacing his tone. “Yeah, I wanted Mario Kart but I got endless Hayes’ stories. Don’t get me wrong, they’re interesting, but it’s proof they’ve been trying to groom me for the throne since I can remember.”
“So… why are you showing me this?” Carina asked, a bit confused. “What’s your angle?”
He shrugged again. “Trying to prove that we’re better.”
She sighed, snapping the book shut. “Alright, it’s been fun hearing about your ancient family members, but I’ll stick to the general information, thank you very much.”
His hand wrapped gently around her wrist, holding her in place. “You needed a reminder that I’m more than whatever you’ve been taught to perceive me as. I’m not whoever Henrietta was. I’m not whoever my parents want me to be. I’m just as lost as you are.”
She chewed the inside of her lip. “You’re right, but I can’t just ignore everything that’s been said to me. I’m supposed to hate you.”
“Well, do you?”
She sighed, staring at his hand, still holding her wrist. “I don’t hate anyone.”
“So, a non-answer. How diplomatic of you,” he scoffed, lip curled.
He was gorgeous, and infuriating. A horrible combination.
“You shouldn’t have kissed me or we wouldn’t be in this mess!” Carina whispered angrily, trying to keep her voice low despite her rage.
“You’re joking, right?” He shook his head, dropping his hand. “Carina, I don’t know what kind of revisionist bullshit you’re pulling right now, but if I remember correctly, you kissed me first.”
“Well – Well, my kiss didn’t count! It was a peck. I was coming down from an adrenaline rush. It wasn’t anything,” she shook her head, sliding the book back on the shelf. “You could’ve just left it at that, but you went in for round two, so you made it all complicated.”
“Yeah, I went in for round two because the first kiss sucked,” he said, emphasizing the last word.
She sucked in a sharp breath, trying to hold back a startled gasp. “If it sucked, you wouldn’t have gone in for another one.”
“Nope. Just trying to clean up after you,” he said, a hint of a teasing smile on his lips.
He was insufferable. Annoying. Unbearable. But he was gorgeous.
“What are we even arguing about? We’re literally just arguing to argue right now,” she huffed, flinging her arms in the air, letting her palms slap her thighs.
“You want to hate me, but you can’t. And you’re a bad kisser.”
She gritted her teeth, grabbing the lapels of his denim jacket, tugging him forward to smash her lips against his.
This kiss was a lot different than the last one – born out of frustration and anger and delicious sexual tension rather than exhilaration.
He groaned into her mouth, his hands grazing the hem of her skirt, slowly tracing the shape of her hips. He fisted the fabric there, pulling her closer, closer than they’d ever been.
The library was nearly silent, the dozens of rows around them completely unoccupied.
He slid his hands underneath her blazer, tugging at the hem of her skirt with a crooked finger. She could barely focus on what their mouths were doing anymore, considering he was two seconds away from copping a feel.
She pulled away, panting. “What do you think you’re doing?”
He laughed, just as out of breath as she was. “There’s nobody around. Live a little.”
“I can’t afford to ‘live a little’. You of all people should understand that, unless you’re just that dense.”
“Ouch. That almost hurt,” he smiled, hand snaking around her waist.
She smacked his chest with an open hand, her palm thudding inaudibly against the material of his hoodie. “Shut up.”
“Is this the part where you expect me to say ‘make me’? How cliche of you.”
“You’re the worst.”
“And you’re holding back because you think you owe people shit. You should let go,” he said, raising his hand to cup her chin. “I’ll be right here to catch you.”
Her lips parted involuntarily, a little dumbfounded by just how… suave this guy was. She was clearly immune to his charms in some capacity, but had just enough cracks in her exterior that he knew he could slip through.
“And you said I was cliched,” she said, running her hands down his lapels and smoothing them back in place. “I’ve, uh, never done this before.”
“Made out in a library? Weak –” He cut himself off at the look in her eyes, surprise flitting across his features before he wiped it away, the teasing back in place as quickly as it left.
“Guess I underestimated you,” he murmured, glancing around to check the surrounding area.
“That’s the best dirty talk I’ve heard in awhile,” she grinned.
He raised his brows at her, challenging. “You’re that easily impressed?”
He leaned in, so close that his lips grazed her earlobe, short whiskers scratching her jawline. “Wait till you see what else my mouth can do.”
She sighed involuntarily, eyelids fluttering. She really hated how her body reacted to his voice, low and grating, the bass of it sending shockwaves into her nerves. “Fuck…”
“Think I can make you cum before the librarian does her last rounds?” He said in her ear, hand splaying across the back of her skirt, gripping her ass, chuckling when she gasped.
“What about you?” She breathed, tilting her head to expose more of her neck to him, revelling in the way he sucked and nipped her skin.
“I know you’ll get me off. I mean, look at you,” he said, cupping her breast with his free hand. She sighed again, annoyed at herself for reacting – again.
His hands roamed, settling at the front of her skirt. “Is this okay?”
She nodded, rolling her lips to keep from making noise as his fingers slipped under her skirt, fingertips grazing the inside of her thighs. She sucked in a breath when he deftly pulled her underwear to the side, the pads of his fingers sliding against her.
“Don’t tell me auntie Henrietta’s got you this worked up.”
“Stop teasing me – no time –” she managed to get out, whining when his thumb circled her clit.
God, the act of being seen alone with him was enough to get her a headlining story, and kissing him would get her blacklisted faster than her mother could call her and chew her out – but fucking him? She’d never be able to show her face in public again.
But something about the rush of being with him, making her own choices, being spontaneous, was enough to make the decision for her.
“Just shut up and fuck me, Blaine,” she groaned, her nails digging into his shoulder, forehead pressed against him as she tried to focus on containing her noises.
“Turn around,” he ordered, spinning them around so she was pressed up against the bookcase. Thank god they were in the back, hidden by the edge of it.
She gripped the wood, trying to hide the trembling of her arms as he hurriedly shoved her skirt up over her hips, bunched at her waist.
He ran his hands over her hips, digging his fingers into her flesh. He toyed with the back of her thong, slipping his hand under the fabric before dragging it to the side.
“C’mon, stop staring. We don’t have all day,” she said, glancing at him over her shoulder.
“Goddamn, Carina,” he said, low and breathy. “Keep looking at me like that and it’ll be hard to stay quiet.”
She stared at the books in front of her, browsing the titles while he unzipped his jeans and rolled on a condom.
“You’re looking for books, even now?” He laughed, reaching his hand underneath her to stroke her clit gently. “You’re something else.”
“I was not –” she said, sucking in air when he expertly curled his fingers inside of her. “Jesus –”
“You sure you’re alright with this?” He asked, pumping himself slowly – she could feel his knuckles graze her ass and it was enough to make her breaths quicken.
“Yes, Blaine – please she could be coming by any minute now –” She was cut off by him sinking into her slowly, languidly, and she dropped her head, sighing into the crook of her elbow, arms already bent and shaking.
“Fuck, you feel so good,” he groaned, rasp still twinging his voice. He leaned forward, his left arm snaking to cup her breast, the right gently grabbing her chin to tilt her head towards him.
“Look at me when I’m fucking you,” he said, dragging his thumb across her parted lips while he pumped into her slowly, hips rolling deliciously slow.
“Oh my god – I –” Her senses were overstimulated – the way he was fucking her, talking to her, looking at her – she was already putty in his hands. She moaned an incomprehensible phrase when she grinded her hips, Blaine bottoming out inside of her.
“Use your inside voice,” he laughed breathily into her ear.
She opened her jaw, sucking his thumb into her mouth, revelling in the way his lids fluttered when she ran her tongue over the pad of it.
His pace quickened, hips snapping into her. He captured her earlobe between his teeth, breathing heavily through his nose, his low gravelly moans right in her ear.
As much as Carina wanted to scold herself for getting too comfortable with him that quickly, she couldn’t find it in herself to care.
She was almost grateful for the forced tension with him via their parent’s pressuring – it made fucking him much more gratifying.
It wasn’t hate fucking, because she really didn’t hate him. He was annoying, but not evil. It was definitely a twisted act of vengeance – their reputations wouldn’t survive being caught like this, but neither of them cared in the moment.
God, it felt so good for her to just let go of the million expectations that everyone had for her to chase the one thing she wanted. That level of spontaneity was addicting – she didn’t blame Blaine for rebelling so often.
“Fuck – you’re so good –” he said, tilting her head to press hot, open mouthed kisses against her parted lips.
Probably to keep her quiet, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. He tasted so sweet, so fucking sweet –
“Blaine, please, I’m close,” she said through soft gasps, lips still touching his.
“Tell me what to do.”
“Keep going like that, and touch me, please,” she said, whining way louder than she intended to when his fingers found her again.
He covered her mouth with his hand, slowing his pace so he could scope it out. It was seemingly quiet, still, their soft pants the only sound.
She wiggled her hips, smiling against his hand when he sucked in a sharp breath.
“Such a tease,” he said, before moving his hips again.
She braced her arms against the bookshelf, pushing against him. He set a relentless pace, the low thumps of her skin against his jeans just loud enough that they definitely could have been noticed by someone a couple rows away.
“So, so beautiful,” he murmured, the words of affirmation falling from his lips as naturally as his teasing did.
The familiar intense feeling washed over her, clenching around him while white lined the edges of her vision. She folded her arms on the edge of the shelf, dipping her head so she could catch her breath.
“Can I just say that you’re looking absolutely regal right now?” He smirked, pulling out of her.
“You didn’t finish though,” she said, weakly, still recovering.
“You can make it up to me later,” he said, lightly patting her ass before pulling her skirt back in place.
“No, this can’t happen again,” she shook her head, turning to face him completely, one hand still resting on the shelf for balance. “This was a one–time thing.”
“Oh, so you’re willing to admit defeat so easily, huh? I guess Ardonians are better in every way,” he shrugged, resituating himself.
There he was again – Blaine was back to teasing, his automatic default.
She gritted her teeth, pushing his chest with a pointed finger. “You not finishing isn’t some kind of competitive edge over me –”
“It is, but continue.”
She pinched the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes. “I can’t with you. Bye.”
She pushed past him, heading back towards the tables to grab her stuff. Just as she slung her backpack over her shoulder, the door to the stairs creaked open, the librarian emerging.
“You’ll need to leave. We’re closing now.”
She nodded. “Have a great night.”
The air outside was warm, still, the last rays of sun long gone. The campus looked nearly abandoned, a few stragglers entering and exiting the residential buildings.
“Hey, Carina, wait – you forgot this –”
She turned, lips already curled in disgust. He really didn’t know when to stop.
“It’s your fancy fountain pen. Figured you needed it,” he said, tossing it to her.
“Thanks,” she said, reaching out to snatch it from his hand, but he pulled it out of her reach.
“Damn, someone’s annoyed. Turn around, I’ll put it in your backpack for you.”
“If it gets you away from me faster, sure.”
“Night, Carina. See you in class,” he grinned, giving her a solute before turning in the opposite direction.
Tatum approached her, brows furrowed. “You really shouldn’t be seen with him.”
“I know,” she sighed, tugging the straps of her bag tighter. She took off in front of him, briskly walking back towards her suite.
“Hey… stop walking for a second. I need to see something,” Tatum said, annoyance lacing his voice.
“Uh… alright,” she agreed, halting in place.
He closed the gap between them, standing right behind her. Her cheeks heated a bit, wondering if he sensed something off about her. His instincts couldn’t be that good, could they?
“What the –” he spat, the sound of light crinkling alerting her.
He circled her, holding something up. Her eyes widened when she realized what it was.
Blaine had slipped the condom wrapper into the clip of her pen before returning it.
Her hands balled into fists at her sides, wondering how the hell she got caught up with the son of her family’s nemeses, and why she loved the feeling of eating the forbidden fruit.
He was the flame, but she was the gasoline, for sure. She didn’t know how long she could fan the flame without being burned, but she found herself hoping for much, much longer.

Is it just me or was the finale of foreign affairs unsatisfying??
My reaction to the finale:
Like- it was the cute and sappy story ending you'd expect from a romcom but choices?? The people that stretch out stories for no reason?? I was expecting them to do a thing like the royal romance (sO glad they didn't) or a larger thing happening behind Ardona and Rutherland but...nothing?? I'm not saying I wanted a stretched out story but what was that? At least add something after the kiss like an even sappy-er ending of them going on the road trip or teasing something but nothing? I-
The ending was so...vanilla..
And the true problem is because they never had a set villain to begin with so they stringed some characters along
Update: Also why is it the whole book we're all like 'oh, mommy dearest won't approve of our relationship because she's toxic' but in the end she told us that if we're happy, she's happy- bitch what??? Especially for those going for Blaine, it makes no sense. Why was this such a big deal for nothing?? They barely made Mc's mom toxic and then redeemed her- I- where's the drama?
Even with the little stuff, pb soaked out the drama just to end the book they never planned properly. They just wanted another desire & decorum or trr book but didn't want to put in the effort. Trr had the same problem- like the Lis were gold but there was no set villain other than Anton and when there was, it was just...really random??
It's disappointing because I really like this book but it's the fact that there was no big bad - it got ruined. I wanted the whole 'I don't care what anyone says, this is my Li' but they saved us and got the gold ticket in mommy dearest's good book. I-

Ina Kingsley x MC: I’m not needed, never will I be - Part 3
Summary: An unexpected visitor throws Raven’s life around.
Warnings: ANGST, negative thoughts, swearing, maybe a sprinkle of fluff, hurt Raven
Tags: @kulaykape @ikingsley @remnantsofthepast-if @loyalshrimpfan @barnibumblr @alleycat97 @blaine-hayes @swimmingshoebakerydreamer @luthorsxrojas @darlingnikki-prince
Author’s Notes: It mentions some of Raven’s negative thoughts. If you are uncomfortable with it, I advise you not to read it. This does not affect the other stories, think of it as an alternate universe or something- It mentions some characters from previous fics. For the ones who do read it, I hope you enjoy it. It has not been proofread, although, feedback is appreciated if you message me in private. I will edit it later. This series seems to continue as long as I have ideas for it to end.
Raven woke up and the first thing she checked was her messages. She read Ina’s text which resulted in a little pinch to her heart. She wasn’t sure if she should be jealous or if she should be glad that she had a trustworthy place to stay while drunk. There was a knock at the door before she could begin her morning routine.
She was surprised that Ina would knock but thought nothing of it, maybe her hangover was a lot if she didn’t use her keys. When Raven opened the door, it wasn’t Ina. Another woman was standing opposite, a little taller than Ina but around the same age as her. Blond-haired and blue eyes examine Raven.
“Hi, is Ina here?”
“Depends on who’s asking.”
The question of Ina’s whereabouts stirred unexpected feelings of possessiveness. The woman raised an eyebrow before choosing her words.
“Well, I’m Elizabeth. You can call me Liz, I’m Ina’s ex-fiancee. But I heard she was here and I was in the area so I dropped by for a visit.”
“What makes you think she’d want to see her ex?”
Liz lets out a little laugh before walking past Raven into the apartment, she looks around the apartment coming across a photo of Ina and Raven together.
“Wow, I see we’ve moved onto this quite seriously.”
“Can you leave?”
Liz acknowledged Raven’s request before slowly approaching the doorway.
“I’ll leave for now. But I’ll let you know, what makes you think Ina would stay with someone like you? Young, you’d get bored easily when Ina is the type of person who’d want to settle down after the adventures we had.”
With that, she walked out. Raven shut the door before slipping onto the couch, replaying Liz’s words.
Would Ina leave me?
After an hour, Ina opened the door and spotted Raven.
“Raven! You’re up, why do you look dull?”
“I missed you so I slept pretty awkwardly last night.”
She welcomed her girlfriend with a kiss, staying silent about the encounter with Liz.
“Should I get started on breakfast?”
“Oh no! It’s okay, I ate at my friend’s. I’m going to start catching up on missing work.”
“I see.”
In an attempt to spend more time together, she pulled Ina back into a hug.
“Can we go out or stay in and watch a movie tonight?”
“This is new. I mean, we can stay in. I’m too tired to go out, I have to get started on work.”
“I just missed you and wanted to spend time with you.”
Raven let go and Ina gave her a flirty wink before she walked into her home office. The younger woman decided to get started on her day and blow off her steam at the gym.
******
“Raven, we should take a break.”
“I’m fine, Tal.”
“I know but I’m tired, girl.”
Raven harshly unstrapped her boxing gloves and Tal dropped the punching targets.
“What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know, lately Ina and I have been distancing but it doesn’t feel like it sometimes. We’d have a nice moment and then life, our differences, would start to creep back in. This morning, Liz, Ina’s ex-fiancee, showed up at our apartment today.”
“No way! Why?”
“I don’t know, she wanted to see Ina because she found out she lived there. Told me things that I’d get bored and that Ina would want to settle down.”
“Is that why you’re in a bad mood? Because her ex showed up at your door and started spewing some bullshit?”
“No, I’m scared that maybe there’s truth within those words. What if I can’t separate our relationship from how different we are? I’m starting to work and she already has a career. I want to go out with my girlfriend and do some sightseeing but she wouldn’t want to because one outing is enough for a month. I’m just worried about how we’re going.”
“And you’re not telling her because..?”
“Because I’m fucking scared, Tal. What if I mess it up even more? You know the things that happened in the past. I’ve messed up how I wanted to word my thoughts and feelings, turned it into a bigger mess.”
Tal was unsure of how to respond. He gave her a pat on the shoulder before picking up the targets again.
“Come on, let’s go. I’m sure you’ll figure out how to explain the vibe with time.”

~3.6k words | T
they break apart to a mix of cheers and shouted questions, flashbulbs exploding in her field of vision. despite the chaos surrounding them, kennedy only has eyes for blaine and his soft smile, which she returns with a gleeful little laugh as security sweeps in to push back the hoard of press, putting some space between them on the lawn.
“i’ll go notify cassandra about that press release,” her mom says tactfully, turning to head back inside the ballroom. “congratulations, you two. and thank you again, blaine.”
with a nod, she’s gone, and then blaine’s guiding her away from the paparazzi, hand warm on the small of her back. “well, we just totally nuked this party,” he murmurs, lips tugging up into a mischievous grin, “might as well head back upstairs and --”
“blaine benjamin hayes!”
“fuck,” he finishes, wincing. they both turn slowly towards the exclamation and find themselves face-to-face with blaine’s mom and one very stressed out looking assistant, hurriedly taking notes on her cell phone. “heeeeeey. what are you doing out here, mom?”
“i heard about the commotion,” she answers tightly, “and told your father, surely, if our son had a secret relationship with kennedy monroe, he’d run it by us before taking it to the press. wouldn’t he?”
kennedy sneaks a glance up at blaine and finds him grinning sheepishly, tugging at his collar. “it was sort of a spur-of-the-moment decision.” there’s a tense pause, and then he continues, “kennedy’s team is working on a press release, if you want to send stacy --”
“cindy,” interjects the assistant standing beside blaine’s mom, without looking up from her notes.
“cindy to collaborate on it with them,” he finishes seamlessly, the hand he has on kennedy’s back sliding around to her side to pull her closer.
blaine’s mom drops her gaze to his hand with a sigh. “you couldn’t even warn us, blaine? really?”
“sorry,” he says unapologetically, “next time.”
kennedy arches an eyebrow at him. “next time?”
“not that there’s going to be a next time,” blaine continues charmingly, very obviously rolling with the punches, “because kennedy and i are madly in love.”
“we’ll talk about this later,” says his mom, voice heavy with distaste, and then she’s gone, too. stacy/cindy doesn’t even look their way as she follows behind her.
“that could’ve been worse,” kennedy murmurs. blaine snorts.
“your perception is skewed. just because she didn’t try to murder you in a hedge maze doesn’t mean it went well.”
“but it could’ve been worse,” she says again, and then blaine smiles genuinely, nodding his agreement.
“definitely. although -- it’s not like i care. now that i can kiss you in public, there’s pretty much nothing else that matters.”
blaine’s eyes are soft in the moonlight, the expression on his face gentle. kennedy melts under the tenderness in his gaze, swaying closer into the front of his suit. “that’s sweet,” she starts, “i feel the same way.”
“yeah?” blaine asks, “good. i --”
tatum suddenly appears beside them, clearing his throat. “as much as i hate to break this up,” he says, sounding for all intents and purposes as though he’s lying to their faces, “we should head inside. the press is still taking photos.”
kennedy sighs. “can’t we just let them?”
“i think you’ll probably want to be present for at least part of the strategy discussion,” tatum shrugs, “especially since they’re likely to try to turn you both moving out of school into a press opportunity or something.”
“no,” blaine groans, “god, no. packing up is going to be miserable enough on its own.” he returns to rubbing her back as she tilts her head onto his shoulder. “remind me again about that vacation,” he prompts.
“a beautiful beach,” kennedy murmurs obligingly, “sunscreen, cocktails, dinners by the ocean. a private hotel suite.”
“please,” tatum interjects, “can’t you do this some other time?”
“awww, come on,” kennedy defends, while blaine closes his eyes with an expression of absolute misery twisted across his face, “he saved my life tonight, or something. cut him some slack.”
“i refuse,” tatum says, without any heat in his answer, “now let’s go.”
they trudge inside quietly, though as soon as they weave through the ballroom blaine drops his hand into hers to twine their fingers together, careless of the stares they’re attracting.
their classmates in particular seem unreasonably happy for them, cheering excitedly while they cross the room to head towards the back hall.
“it’s nice of them to act like they didn’t already know,” blaine murmurs, dipping his head to bring his lowered voice closer to her ear.
kennedy laughs, grinning up at him. “very,” she agrees, “not that we have to bother with pretending to be discreet.”
“we weren’t very good at it, anyway,” he says, pausing outside the conference room door at the back of the embassy. kennedy leans against the opposite wall, casting a sidelong glance down towards tatum at the end of the hall. he’s inspecting a painting a respectful distance away from the both of them, pretending not to hear or see what they’re doing. the soft touch of blaine’s hands on her waist recaptures her attention. “ready to face the music?”
“almost.” pushing up onto her tip-toes, she slides her hands into blaine’s hair and pulls him down for a kiss, slowly moving her mouth against his.
it’s something she’s probably never going to get tired of. she feels like she could kiss blaine for hours -- days -- years, forever -- so it’s unfortunate when their moment of privacy is cut short, the door behind blaine’s back suddenly swinging open.
“oh, for the love of --” they break apart guiltily to find blaine’s father standing in front of them, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“dad,” blaine greets evenly, “you remember kennedy.”
“of course,” sighs his father, “how... wonderful to see you again.”
“you too, mr. hayes,” she returns politely, like blaine’s hand isn’t sliding down dangerously low on her back. “i’m glad ardona was able to sign the peace treaty.”
“yes, well -- i see why blaine was so adamant about supporting it, now.” the expression on his face suggests blaine’s in for an earful the next time she leaves him alone, so kennedy quietly resolves to be beside him for as much of the next few days as possible, while they get their things moved out of vancross and (hopefully) get started on that vacation. “come in, then. there’s a draft of the release for you to review.”
they shuffle into the conference room like two kids who’ve been called to the principal’s office, dropping into empty seats beside her mother at one end of the table. blain rests his hand on her thigh, leaning in to take the tablet that’s offered to him. his eyes scan the screen quickly before he tilts it towards her to read, too.
a statement from kennedy monroe, first daughter of the great nation of rutherland.
“shouldn’t it be a joint statement?” she asks, warmed by the way blaine squeezes her knee under the table in agreement. “i think i’d like both of our names to be on it.”
“yeah, i wanna sign it,” blaine agrees, dutifully ignoring the glances the rest of the room is exchanging as though they somehow can’t see them. “and, also -- can you make it sound less trashy? we’ve been dating all semester. this statement reads like we’re some fling.”
“you’ve been dating all semester?” her mother asks suddenly from beside her, frowning. “kennedy, you lied to me.”
“well -- there were other things going on,” she defends, shifting a little closer to blaine. “plus, for a while i was technically dating alexei.”
the campaign publicist sitting across from her types hurriedly on her laptop, then slides the machine around so she can see the screen. kennedy pulls it closer with the hand not resting on blaine’s arm, and the two of them lean in until they’re almost cheek-to-cheek to read the updated statement together.
blaine shrugs carelessly before she’s even halfway done, jostling her shoulder. “fine by me.”
“did you even read it?” she asks, amused.
“like it’s my fault i read faster than you,” he laughs, and for a moment, she forgets there’s anyone else in the room with them. for a moment, it’s just her and blaine, and she’s so ridiculously, deliriously happy that she’s short of breath, outright beaming while they stare at each other like idiots.
then her mom pointedly clears her throat, and kennedy turns back around to see tatum’s just finished giving her some kind of unpleasant update, judging by the look on her face. “it seems the crowd of press outside has gotten much larger. you’re all welcome to spend the night here at the embassy, of course. hopefully things will have calmed down in the morning.”
“security’s working on the problem now, but it might take some time,” tatum confirms. when kennedy meets his eyes, there’s a subtle arch of one eyebrow, as if to say, look what you did.
she grins shamelessly back at him. beside her, blaine seems equally as pleased with himself, leaning back in his chair smugly.
down at the other end of the table, his father sighs heavily. “of course it will. thank you for your... hospitality, madame president.”
“anytime. kennedy -- please extend the invitation to your classmates, as well. there’s more than enough room. and i think we probably have all we need from the two of you. unless there’s any questions?”
her eyes light up as she senses their out. blaine’s caught on beside her, too, perking up in his chair. “uh, no. just call me if you need me to review anything else.”
“kennedy, please keep blaine from doing anything rash in front of any more cameras.” prime minister hayes sounds utterly exhausted, rubbing wearily at his eyes with one hand. “at least for tonight.”
“will do,” she chirps, stifling a laugh as blaine pulls her to her feet eagerly, already hustling them both out of the room.
they run to the elevator like children, hand-in-hand. “come on,” blaine urges, practically dragging her down the hall. it’s a struggle to keep up with her high heels wobbling and her skirt picked up on one side.
“sexism,” she alleges senselessly when they finally reach the corridor, breathless from laughing and warmed by blaine’s impossibly fond gaze.
“yeah, yeah,” blaine dismisses, waving his hand before bracing his palm on the wall behind her head, leaning in as close as he can, “enjoy it, rutherland. this is the last time you’ll ever see this group together in such a good mood.”
“well, tonight is supposed to be about peace,” kennedy grins, reaching up to wind her arms around his neck, “it’d be pretty poor form if my mom murdered my new boyfriend.”
“she doesn’t have to do that,” he hums, tilting his head down until the tips of their noses brush, “my parents are totally going to kill me first.”
“maybe i can pull some strings,” she says, pretending to think it over, “get you protection in rutherland. you are kind of a national hero, now, probably.”
“tempting, but i’d rather just get started on our beach vacation.” blaine’s grin is crooked, at odds with the way his eyes have gone suddenly dark. “i was thinking tahiti.”
“tahiti sounds nice.” the elevator dings behind her and she steps backwards as gracefully as she can manage, pulling blaine along by the sleeve as they go.
she’s midway through kissing blaine while simultaneously undoing his bowtie when there’s some pointed shifting and she realizes they aren’t alone in the elevator; agent demarco nods politely at her when she gapes over at him.
“i swept your room for bugs, miss monroe,” he offers helpfully, “there were no threats detected.”
“thank you, demarco.” beside her, blaine is laughing silently into her shoulder, hardly even bothering to hide his amusement. she lifts her hand and punches him in the shoulder. “shut up, you dick.”
“can you blame me for thinking you’re cute when you’re embarrassed?” blaine asks, looking just as stupidly happy as she’d felt downstairs. he looks so unbelievably thrilled that she knows she’d have a hard time blaming him for anything, just then.
the penthouse floor is quiet when they head down the hallway towards the room at the embassy that’s always been hers, the one they’d stolen away to just a few hours ago. blaine whistles cheerfully while she shuts the door behind them both and flips the deadbolt, shucking his jacket off and dropping it to the floor before face planting on the bed.
the springs creak loudly beneath his body, and blaine bounces again as if testing them before rolling over, disturbing the hastily remade sheets all over again. he folds his arms behind his head, smirking. “this feels familiar.”
“if you think i’m going to strip for you again, dream on,” she laughs, reaching around her back to unzip her dress, “this thing was a bitch and a half to get into the first two times.”
“i love it when you talk dirty,” blaine sighs, sitting up only when his eyes land on a duffel bag by the window. “what’s that?”
“dunno,” kennedy shrugs, double checking to make sure the curtains are pulled shut tight before crossing the room in her underwear and yanking the zipper open. her hands sift through three or four soft t-shirts -- definitely blaine’s -- before pulling out a couple pairs of pants and one demure denim skirt. “clothes for tomorrow, i guess.”
“we should totally switch outfits,” he suggests, pushing up onto his knees on the side of the bed, “that would be hilarious.”
kennedy laughs as she holds up the skirt for his inspection. “oh, yeah? you think you could fit those thighs in this?”
“okay -- ouch.” blaine holds a hand to his heart as if he’s actually wounded, then starts to undo his belt, “and, also, challenge accepted. get ready to be shown up.”
the skirt does make it over the tops of his thighs, but only barely. she watches him struggle trying to inch the narrow waist over his ass for longer than is probably polite before she says, “okay, stop. if you rip it i’ll have nothing to wear tomorrow.”
“oh, don’t tempt me,” blaine grins, “i’ll have the helicopter land right out there on the lawn and take us straight to the airstrip. no cameras.”
kennedy rolls her eyes, pretending to check the duffel bag again. “they didn’t send me a swimsuit.”
blaine’s smile spreads wider. “exactly.”
she huffs, then launches herself at him on the bed, pouncing before he can stop her. blaine lets himself be pushed and eventually, pinned, her body bracketing itself over his on the mattress until she’s holding him down, stretched out over blaine. “you’re lucky i kind of like you,” she says, though her voice is so soft and gentle she knows they’re both aware of what she really means.
the expression on blaine’s face shifts into a naked look of pure joy. “i kind of like you, too.”
“nice,” kennedy grins dorkily, and the second her grip eases up blaine immediately takes advantage to flip them, careful to let her head land exactly on the fluffy pillow at the left side of the bed before he lays down next to her.
“i’m not leaving your dorm all day tomorrow,” he says suddenly, staring so deeply into her eyes it’d almost be enough to make her uncomfortable, if he were anyone else but himself.
an amused smile pulls her lips back up again. “you have to pack, too. we’re all supposed to be moving out.”
blaine shrugs, reaching out to trail his fingers down he bare arm, from shoulder to wrist and back again. “yeah, but if i help you and then you help me we’ll both get moved out and on a flight out of here in, like, half the time.”
that’s probably true. blaine’s much better at math than she is. “do you seriously want to go straight from vancross to vacation?”
“duh,” he answers, as though it should be obvious, “we should lay low for as long as possible. let the media tire themselves out speculating, and then come home once they’re bored of talking about us. it’s the perfect crime.”
“i’m pretty sure it’s not a crime at all,” kennedy says, reaching out to wrap her free hand around blaine’s hip, “but you do kind of have a point. okay, i’m in. let’s go to tahiti.”
“fuck yes,” blaine groans, grinning at her so brilliantly she’s left dazzled, like she’s spent too long staring into the sun. she’s helpless to do anything but smile back at him, and maybe agree to go on vacation a second time, just to see if it’ll make him so happy again. “you’re seriously my favorite person.”
“you’re my favorite person.” it sounds like an argument even though she’s technically agreeing with him. blaine’s eyebrows arch in recognition of the unspoken challenge.
“well, you’re the coolest girlfriend i’ve ever had.”
“please,” kennedy scoffs, “you’re the only boyfriend who’s ever met my mom.”
blaine’s expression flickers to show how pleased he is for a moment before it’s schooled back into the haughty, cocky mask he wears so well. “and you’re the only girlfriend whose name my father bothered to learn.”
“well -- i’m in love with you,” she declares, after trying and failing to think of something else to say.
blaine’s eyes light up as he realizes he’s about to win. it’s hard to feel bothered by his smugness when he looks so excited. “big deal,” he shoots back snottily, “you’re the love of my life.”
“god,” kennedy half-groans, half-laughs, ducking her head against blaine’s stupid smile, “fine, you win! are you happy? you brat.”
“actually, i’m thrilled,” he says, tilting her chin up with his free hand so she’s forced to look him in the eyes again. her laughter tapers off as she does, the air between them suddenly shifting from playful to serious.
and then they’re kissing, falling against each other like it’s a crime for their lips not to be connected, like it’s been years since they’ve had the chance to do so. blaine’s hands are everywhere at once, the firm lines of his body against hers an agonizing tease and familiar safety at the same time. he swallows the sigh that escapes from her mouth to his, and the answering moan he gives lights her up from head to toe, sending tiny sparks down her spine until everything feels fuzzy and light and ridiculously, stupidly good.
tahiti suddenly seems even more alluring when she realizes they’ll be completely disconnected from school and the press and the outside world, free to do this and little else for as long as they dare.
“oh man,” blaine mutters against her lips between a series of quick kisses with rapidly diminishing breaks between them, “i think i’m dying. or i’m already dead.”
“please,” she laughs, as his pauses to breathe grow shorter and shorter before becoming nothing, his kiss so thorough it leaves her windswept and dazed as they roll around on the sheets.
“dreaming, maybe?” he guesses, chest rising and falling rapidly as he stares down at her in wonder, like she just might be a figment of his imagination after all.
kennedy shakes her head. he’s the one who’s spectacular, and he doesn’t even know it. her brain struggles to put her overwhelming adoration into words he’ll understand, focused solely on the small circles blaine’s right thumb is rubbing into her hip.
“really, i’m awake?” another kiss, so slow and deep it leaves her toes curling against the sheets. this time, when blaine pulls away, it’s with the corniest, cheesiest grin she’s ever seen. “weird. i’m pretty sure girls like you only exist when i’m sleeping.”
“if you don’t stop,” she threatens, swallowing the laughter that’s starting to bubble up again. she can’t recall a time she’s ever felt so light, but blaine’s kisses make her feel pumped full of helium, on her way up towards the ceiling.
what a semester it’s been. what a person blaine is, for making her think of the challenges they’ve faced as triumphs instead of something to weigh them both down.
what a future they’re going to have together.
“you’ll what?” blaine taunts, as his kisses finally -- finally -- move down her jaw towards her neck, “keep looking at me like i’m the most important person in the world? oh, no, i’d hate that.”
“i’ll...” her words trail off into nothing as his teeth nip at her skin. there’s the briefest scratch of stubble against the underside of her jaw, and then her eyes flutter shut and her body surrenders, the tension bleeding out of her shoulders as though it was never there in the first place.
“that’s what i thought,” blaine murmurs, and despite the fact that she totally wants to be annoyed -- she’d even settle for mildly irritated, really -- kennedy finds that she just can’t bring herself to be anything but ecstatic.
there’s a plane and a sandy beach and a whole life waiting for them. after tonight, she’s pretty sure there isn’t anything the world could serve up that they wouldn’t tear through together and spit back with ease.
but she’s excited to find it all out: what’s next. what’s going to be easy, and what’s going to be hard. what blaine is like when there’s no school to sneak out of or cameras to avoid.
she has a lot of promises to cash in on, and she intends to force blaine to make good on all his grand declarations.
though she’s pretty sure -- okay, very sure, when he lifts his head and smiles at her like she’s the one who’s the most important person in the world -- that’s not going to be a problem.
still... now they have the chance to find out.
and she’s not going to let anything stop them from taking it.
