Waking up to see Damon Hill criticizing Charles Leclerc for being too ā€œemotionalā€ and ā€œdepressedā€ because his teammate beat him in Suzuka of all places really just rubs me the wrong way.
This is the same driver who went out and won the F2 feature race in Baku barely four days after his father died.
This is the same driver who went out and won his first F1 race in Spa barely a day after his close friend was killed.
How dare anyone question his mental health, especially so callously.
Charlesā€™ grief is not a tool for pundits to exploit. Charlesā€™ performance in free practice and qualifying has nothing to do with his emotions and everything to do with motricity issues with the car as well as track evolution.
I will try to give Hill the benefit of the doubt about not realizing the implications of his words but the way he has repeatedly and hypocritically held Charles to ridiculous double standards needs to stop.
We were told that Charles needs to ā€œassert himself moreā€ but when he did so over the radio towards the end of FP3, he is ā€œemotional,ā€ ā€œagitated,ā€ and he ā€œvents.ā€
What do you want from him then?
Sky Sports F1 is a huge media platform and words have far-reaching consequences.
Commentators are literally paid to think before they speak ā€¦ letā€™s see that in action for once.

Because I'm feeling petty, and it is the anniversary of The Tweet That Rocked The Grid, I decided to compile the most important piece of Oscar Lore.
I present to you: the most complete timeline of how alpine fucked up their handling of oscar piastri, aka, the piasco, to the best of my knowledge
(information compiled from multiple sources)
March 2021: Oscar Piastri makes his F2 debut in Bahrain, at the first round of the season. He immediately makes a splash by finishing fifth in the first sprint race and winning the second.
May 2021: Monaco. Oscar again impresses, collecting an 8th and two 2nds (including one in the feature race). Meanwhile, in Formula One land, Laurent Rossi offers a four year deal to Esteban Ocon, which he signs.
Rossi did not consult with any of the Alpine board about this offer, which is unprecedented for a driver who had not yet even won a race and unusual even for a race-winner who was not a champion.
What this does do, however, is effectively block one of the Alpine seats until 2025.
June-July 2021: Oscar continues to collect consistent points finishes at Baku and Silverstone, including podiums, keeping him in the championship hunt.
August 2021: Esteban Ocon wins the Hungarian Grand Prix.
September 2021: Oscar and Daniel win in Monza on the same day, with Oscar taking out the F2 feature race on the same day Daniel wins the Italian Grand Prix. Oscar follows this with another feature race victory in Russia, solidifying his points lead.
It is about this time that Alpine sit Oscar and Mark Webber down and explain that no matter what Oscar does now, he will not be in F1 next year. Alpine will have him as a reserve driver only and will not make the effort to put him in a race seat, despite Williams publicly saying they no longer require the money Nicolas Latifi brings in and are open to other drivers for 2022.
November 2021: Alfa Romeo announce that Zhou Guanyu, third place in the F2 championship, will be replacing Antonio Giovinazzi for 2022. This causes quite the uproar, as many despise the idea of Zhou getting a seat before Oscar, the talented rookie champion-elect.
The Piastris (Oscar and his father Chris) and Mark sit down with Alpine and agree to terms for 2022 and beyond, outlined in a terms sheet. This terms sheet is not a contract, but an agreement to sign a contract. The terms sheet outlines that Oscar will be the Alpine reserve driver for 2022; that he will be given practice sessions, certain private tests, and two FP1 sessions; and that Alpine guarantee him a seat on the 2023 grid, presumably with Williams. The terms sheet specifies that the actual contract will follow in 10 business days.
December 2021: Oscar wins the F2 championship in Jeddah after winning the second sprint race and the feature race. He then follows this up with a podium in sprint race one and a win in the feature race at Abu Dhabi, only serving to make Alpine look even more stupid. He is announced as the reserve for Alpine for 2022 and participates in the end of season test for Alpine.
No contract has appeared.
January 2022: Mark follows up with Alpine about the reserve driver contract, and is told, "it's coming".
No contract has appeared.
February 2022: Mark begins to hassle the legal team at Alpine about the contract. At some point, he has an exchange as follows: "I can't keep telling them that the contract is coming." The lawyer replies that she is the only one in the entire legal department, and that she has to do everything before the season starts.
No contract has appeared.
March 2022: During pre-season testing, Daniel Ricciardo tests positive to COVID-19. Alpine make arrangements with McLaren that if Daniel is not fit for Bahrain, Oscar will drive for him. Oscar still does not have a contract at this point. Alpine realise that without a contract, he does not have a superlicence (thereby making him ineligible to drive even if Daniel isn't fit.)
Panicking, the lawyer in Alpine's legal department writes "legally binding" across Alpine's copy of the terms sheet and submits that to the FIA in order to grant him his superlicence.
Five days before the Bahrain Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri finally sits down and signs a contract with Alpine to be their test and reserve driver for the 2022 season. This contract very explicitly only covers 2022, and does not contain any provisions for 2023.
Daniel finishes 17th in Bahrain, ahead of Lando Norris, and is running ahead of Norris and in the points when his gearbox fails in Jeddah.
April 2022: Oscar fulfils his duties as test and reserve driver, including being paraded around in Australia. Daniel finishes 5th in Australia after a nasty team order keeps him behind Norris' ailing car. At Imola, he is sixth in the sprint, only just behind Norris, but finishes 18th in the race after an uncharacteristically clumsy T1 move.
May 2022: Oscar conducts a private test with Alpine at Paul Ricard, using the 2021 car. No times are published, but there is a whisper on social media from the spectators who were there that Oscar was faster than Esteban Ocon had been the previous year. Daniel finishes 13th at the race in Miami after mechanical issues in qualifying and strategy issues in the race, which Andreas Seidl publicly apologises for. He finishes 12th at Spain, due to a broken rear end (which McLaren do not acknowledge until several days after the race).
After the Spanish Grand Prix, Zak Brown conducts an interview where he calls Daniel "disappointing" and lays the blame for their substandard results squarely at Daniel's feet. Daniel is then harassed by the media all through the Monaco weekend, where he finishes 13th.
It is also about this time that Alpine begin to publicly state that they are courting Fernando Alonso for a contract extension for 2023, meaning no seat will be available for next year at Alpine.
June 2022: It is about this time that Zak Brown begins shopping Daniel's seat behind his back. There are several interested parties involved, including Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward of Indycar.
Alpine continue to insist to Mark and Oscar that the 2023 deal is in progress. However, at about this time, rumours start to fly that Oscar is going to replace Nicolas Latifi at Williams after Silverstone. Williams angrily deny this, stand by Latifi, and publicly state that they are done being used as a dumping ground for other teams' juniors when they have their own - a seemingly firm statement that Oscar will not be welcome while he is attached to Alpine.
Mark makes contact with McLaren, and negotiations begin.
5 July 2022: On this date Oscar Piastri signs his contract with McLaren. The contract is initially as a reserve driver with mechanisms to make him the race driver if McLaren can negotiate an exit with Daniel. Oscar informs Otmar Szafnauer and Laurent Rossi shortly afterwards, and does so a second time at some point in the next three weeks.
11 July 2022: Zak Brown states to the media that Daniel Ricciardo will be driving for McLaren in 2023. About this time, Daniel visits the factory, and makes a tearful, impassioned promise to the team members that he is working incredibly hard and will be driving for them next year.
28 July 2022: Sebastian Vettel shocks everyone by announcing his retirement from Formula One at the end of the season, throwing the grid into disarray.
30 July 2022: Lawrence Stroll contacts Fernando Alonso and offers him the drive for next year. Unlike Alpine, Lawrence does not hesitate to put a paper contract in front of Fernando, and offers him a 2+1 deal where Alpine had been pondering a 1+1. Fernando, tired of the games of Alpine, signs immediately.
1 August 2022: Aston Martin announce that Fernando Alonso will join the team from 2023.
Either 1 August 2022 or 2 August 2022: Otmar Szafnauer corners Oscar in the simulator, in front of several other Alpine staff, and informs him he has the Alpine drive in 2023. Oscar is aware that if he challenges Szafnauer he will make a scene and does not say anything.
2 August 2022: Alpine announce that their 2023 driver lineup will consist of Esteban Ocon and Oscar Piastri. Eagle-eyed fans note that there are no quotes from Oscar in the press release, which has a very strange vibe. They are right, because...
A few hours later, Oscar sends The Tweet. There is immediate uproar.
August 2022: Otmar Szafnauer and Laurent Rossi proceed to go on a smear campaign against Oscar, calling him disloyal and questioning his integrity. Even other team principals (unwisely) get involved, despite not knowing the full story. Alpine is threatening court action, and the matter is scheduled for a Contract Recognition Board hearing. Oscar and Mark do not say a word, and nor do McLaren, who everyone assumes is the team that got him.
24 August 2022: McLaren announce that they have agreed with Daniel to part ways for the 2023 season. They do not announce his replacement and Daniel does not have a drive for 2023 arranged.
2 September 2022: The Contracts Recognition Board hearing takes place. Alpine are savagely humiliated as the full extent of their incompetence is laid bare. The mediators express their clear disdain for Alpine's actions, including their incredulousness that a lawyer possibly thought it acceptable to write "legally binding" on a terms sheet, the fact that the lawyer had pleaded with Laurent Rossi for more help several times and Alpine's "shilly-shallying" over even getting Oscar his reserve contract, let alone a race one. They find that the only valid contract Oscar had for 2023 was the one with McLaren, and Alpine are ordered to pay Oscar's, Mark's, and McLaren's costs.
After all of their bluster and slander, it turns out that Otmar Szafnauer and Laurent Rossi genuinely believed the terms sheet was a contract that entitled them to Oscar's services for 2023.
Alpine fire the lawyer. (So I guess nobody is in their legal department, now?)

BIRTHDAY BOY
Tumblr media
pairing: ollie bearman x reader
words: 1.2k
a/n: a (late) birthday post for our favourite species of bear. i have a week's break before my next final, so heres a little something. the gift's kinda stupid just ignore it i couldn't think of anything else.
masterlist
ą¹‘ ā‹†Ėšā‚Šā‹†ā”€ā”€ā”€ā”€ŹšĖšÉžā”€ā”€ā”€ā”€ā‹†Ėšā‚Šā‹† ą¹‘
University had kept you busy with finals, which meant constant studying till, finally, they were over. Ollie was nothing but supportive, calling to check up on you and sending reassuring messages. He had even managed to convince a friend to drop off a bouquet of flowers on his behalf on the day of your final test, along with a handwritten note that ended up alongside all the other in your mini collection.
Originally your plan was to fly to Baku the night they ended, making it in time to see the sprint and feature races. However, Ollie had insisted you stay home instead. He had wanted you to celebrate the end of finals with your friends, partying in clubs rather than sitting on a 7 hour flight.
So you did, after much persistence on his part.
His weekend in Baku had been amazing. For the first time in the history of F2, a driver had gotten P1 in everything. Absolutely everything!
You had called him the moment the feature race ended, jumping up and down your dorm room in delight, congratulating him over and over. Just minutes before you had been watching the livestream, watching him get drenched in champagne, gleaming as he celebrated his well deserved win.
He sat there for almost half an hour, just speaking to you, forgetting about everything except how animatedly you were talking.
"AND THEN- when everyone crashed at the restart it was so scary but I'm so glad you managed to get through."
"Yeah, it was a bit of a battle with Fred for P1 but I managed."
"You did, baby, and I was so happy. My roommate is definitely annoyed with me now, she was working and she said I almost gave her a heart attack."
He only ended the call when the team started packing up, realising he was still wearing his champagne covered fireproofs. Still, he called you the moment he was in the hotel, the both of you talking and enjoying each other's presence for hours.
Before saying goodnight, he said to you that he would see you after his trip to Malta, when he would be coming back to England for a week following his birthday. You nodded, trying not to smirk and give it away. It always was really hard for you to keep secrets.
You were going to be taking a flight to Malta to surprise him. You knew you wanted to see him for his birthday. There was no way you were going to miss the big 1-8. Ollie was always amazing to you, giving you gifts and surprises, this was your chance to do the same for him.
Which is what led to right now, you sitting in a plane as it flew to the small island nation of Malta.
After landing, you directed the taxi to the hotel he was staying at, antsy and excited to finally see him again. With you busy studying and him busy racing, it had been weeks since you had seen each other in person.
You had already talked to his sponsor, whose headquarter he was visiting, and they had agreed to bring him back to the hotel for a few hours so you could surprise him.
After getting they key from reception, you head up to his room, taking out the gift you had packed in your suitcase and placing it on the table. You then sat on the bed, waiting for him to come back.
Not 5 minutes later, you heard the lock click.
His eyes widen when he walks in. Seeing that, you give him a shy smile, that breaks out into a larger one when he runs over to hug you.
HIs arms wrap around you completely, holding you tight to his body. You reciprocate, tucking your face into his neck as he whispers.
"I can't believe you're here."
"Happy birthday, my love." you whisper back, gently squeezing his waist. "I wouldn't miss this for the world."
You look up and him when he pulls away, both your eyes sparkling at the sight of one another. He lets out a small laugh, still trying to comprehend the fact that you were actually there before engulfing you with another hug.
Grateful as he was to be in Malta for his birthday, he was slightly disappointed that he wouldn't get to celebrate with his close friends and family, especially since 18 was a huge milestone. Now that you were here, all those thoughts vanished without a trace.
The two of you spend the next few minutes catching up. Him asking you about your exams and you asking him about Baku.
"You can finally drink the champagne next time you win a race." You say to him, after explaining what happened in your English exam.
"I do drink the champagne, just not in front of the cameras."
"Fine. You can finally legally drink the champagne. Oh that reminds me-"
You pick up the gift from the table, handing it to him with a bashful smile. He takes the box from your hands.
"Darling, you didn't have to get me anything."
"Oh this isn't your only gift, the rest are at home." you reply. "I could only fit one in the suitcase."
"Fine, but don't complain when I get you a bunch of gifts for your birthday." he says as he unwraps the paper. Opening the flaps, he lets out a small gasp when he sees whats inside.
A small stuffed bear, holding a crocheted bottle of champagne. You look at him, waiting for a response. Although you had found thousands of bears in the shop, not one was holding a bottle of champagne. Which is why, during study breaks, you managed to crochet together a small bottle. It was by no means perfect, but it was the best you could do.
"I love it! Oh my god its perfect. I love y- it so much!" he exclaims, smoothly getting past the slight stutter.
You blushed at the comment. "I know the bottle isn't that great, but it's the best I could do."
"Its perfect, you're perfect. Thank you so much, my love."
Although he already had a growing collection of bear memorabilia, he knew immediately that this would be his favourite forever. Unless of course you decided to contribute even more, in which case everything you gifted him would hold the spot of P1.
He gets up, placing it on top of his open suitcase. "I'll take it everywhere with me." he promises.
The two of you are interrupted by a knock on the door, and a voice calling out saying that it was time for lunch.
Grabbing your hand, he leads you out, but not before quietly murmuring to you. "You've made this the best birthday ever."
Smiling in response, you get in the elevator, standing next to him, the both of you heading out to find a restaurant.
"Now tell me, why is it that you do amazing the weekend I'm not in the paddock?"

Alex Albon and Franco Colopinto P10 and P9 tomorrow! Oscar Piastri P2! Christian Mansell reverse pole position on his first ever f2 race! Joshua Duerksen, Jak Crawford, and Gabriele Mini on the podium in the F2 sprint! I don't particularly pay much attention to Duerksen, but I love when he does well because it makes me happy when someone who is very vocal about their faith does well. Kyle Kirkwood pole! Alex Palou is starting P24 and Will Power is starting P4 which means the championship battle is gonna be intense tomorrow.
Wow okay so going backwards lol, COLTON HERTA'S FIRST OVAL WIN!!!! Nashville was a good race, lots of good leaders, Pato P2, Alex Palou is a 3 time champ wow. Sad for Will Power, but my goodness that was quite the finale. Congrats to Louis Foster on his race win and his championship, I hope he gets a seat next year. Yuven Sundaramoorthy P2, I am so happy for him. Rip Callum Hedge and Jamie Chadwicks race, not a fan of that. Also lets talk about how Christian Brooks has not finished outside of the top 10 since starting this season, like that's crazy, I hope he gets a seat next year and shows them what he can do with a full season. I'm gonna miss Indycar and Indy NXT so much, like I love it so much oh my gosh. Can't wait for silly season though, lol. These posts are gonna be so small with just F1 from here on out lol.
That F2 crash was so bad I am so glad everyone else is okay. I'm happy about Christian Mansell and Luke Browning getting points on their first feature race. Kimi Antonelli on the podium is cool. It took me so long to watch the f1 race lol, but it was actually so good. Congrats to Baku for being the first like actually good and interesting race I've seen from F1 in a long time. OSCAR WON!!!!! LET'S GO!!!! Williams double points was amazing. I loved seeing Alex up towards the front even if it was just because he hadn't pit yet. Ollie Bearman scored points as well that was exciting. Oscar's pass on Charles Leclerc was beautiful. That last lap crash was crazy. Overall, I really good race.

Iā€™ve been trying to do my own research on this to no avail, so I was wondering if you could help shed some light on this: which tracks have high tyre deg? Or does this kinda change year to year?
And another question I have is around whether tyre deg/race pace is one of those things thatā€™s considered a ā€œrookie issue.ā€ Obviously even experienced drivers can suffer from bad race pace and tyre deg, but is this something that rookies especially struggle with? Iā€™m wondering because I know Oscar has struggled with his race pace/tyre deg (obviously not the same thing of course) but it seems to me like he only struggles sometimes?? Or maybe Iā€™m just not noticing correctly. He seemed fine at Silverstone, but he struggled a bit in Hungary and Suzuka, and the COTA sprint. So Iā€™m curious what you make of this (you know a lot more than I do!).
Hello
Itā€™s hard to say specifically, because degradation is influenced by many different factors, but in general degradation is due to heat being put into the tyres and things that do that are high-speed corners, specifically, long high-speed corners, and abrasive track surfaces. Things like track temperature also play a part, as a hot track surface is likely to put more heat into the tyres.
Off the top of my head, some tracks with high tyre degradation are
Bahrain, got an abrasive track surface
ļæ¼Spain, long medium and high speed corners
Silverstone, Spa, Suzuka all have high cornering speeds
Rookieā€™s typically struggle with tyre degradation, race pace and managing tyres, more than experience drivers because they havenā€™t had the experience of running that amount of laps before. An F2 Feature Race is 170Km, an F1 Race is over 300km thatā€™s a significant difference and as such tyre management is a skill that isnā€™t really learnt that much before F1
Low degradation tracks are typically street circuits, like Baku and Monaco but also circuits with slower corners like Canada, Mexico and Austria
The set up (as well as the design) of the car can also influence how much it degrades its tyres

hi jenny!!! itā€™s been a while omg !!!
iā€™ve been trying to catch up on f2 - i slacked off after ollieā€™s baku - and i just finished silverstone omg im so rooting for the prema boys and of course arthur šŸ«¶šŸ¼
ollie and jackā€™s battle during the sprint had me at the edge of my seat like holy ollie was holding on for dear life. too bad he missed out on a podium i really thought it was gonna be a 1-2 and then he started falling back šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜
i thought of what LL would think cause like arthur was picking up places but ollie was falling back ā˜¹ļø
if i canā€™t get a charles or lewis ā€˜23 wdc, i hope i get a fred f2 ā€˜23 champ (i pray that i didnt just jinx the heck out of this šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ˜šŸ¤žšŸ¼)
have a great day lovey!!!
- šŸ«¶šŸ¼
I also havenā€™t been keeping up that well with the f2 races, Iā€™ve just been checking ollie, arthur and fredā€™s results šŸ˜…
and I also thought he would get a podium either in the sprint or the feature, but he did well regardless and got some points! šŸ«¶šŸ» and I think LL was mainly said for ollie, cause itā€™s his home race and she knows that this would upset him šŸ˜•
OMG YES! Iā€™m rooting for fred or ollie to win, cause the prema boys deserve it so much!! šŸ©µšŸ©µšŸ©µ
have a great day as well, darling! šŸ„¹

Still quite emotional about Theoā€™s champion, that I want to review the whole process I have been rooting for himāœØ
At the start of 2022 f2 season I saw he won in Bahrain and I decided to support him because his emotions just poured out and made me so happy. I rewatched all the races in f3 and I thought he is such a young talent (I already watched 2021 f2) and I believed he could become championā€¦but actually he performed not well and I remembered he said in an interview after Baku that he felt so mentally struggled from the season began because Sauber told him if you won the championship you could enter in f1, he even couldnā€™t fell asleep before race day and he couldnā€™t find the happiness of drivingšŸ„²I really really felt for himā€¦people paid much attention on his debut year in f2, Sauber gave him the f1 test before he turned to 18 yo and indeed considered to put him in the 2022 seat. How couldnā€™t he expect that future all the timešŸ˜«then from Silverstone he adjusted his mindset and performed really well until the summer break, but in Spa he retired because of the machanical issue, when he cried in the car, my heart was brokenā€¦and I knew this season was over for him. Then I went to Monza to watch the live race and he was hit in the barrier and retired in front of meā€¦for me I really didnā€™t want him to stay another year in f2 just as his initial attitude, I knew he would face plenty of challenges not only from the field but also from the media and fans, so I really appreciated he chose to insist and comeback stronger.
This year he was more relaxed and actually in the first few races he didnā€™t talk anything about championship. He made a big mistake in Jeddah which meant he started a process of chasing Fred in the championship until Spa. every race I was nervous but indeed he performed consistently and I felt really happy for some double-podium weekends. After Spa he led the championship with a fine margin but I felt there would be something wrong in Netherlands because he crashed there last yearā€¦and I was rightšŸ˜…then Monzaā€™s pole was the most cheering thing for me and I finally thought he will become champion. Meanwhile he once again lost the chance to enter in f1 but he didnā€™t mention too muchā€¦I could feel his anticipation for Mexico fp1 but the car had a problemā€¦finally we came to Abu Dhabi I felt so so nervous and here comes his most terrible qualifying performance in this seasonšŸ„²actually before Abu Dhabi he said he was not sure he would drive the fp1 because he wanted to entirely focus on f2 butā€¦In the sprint and feature race he was just flawless, I am so so proud of himšŸ„¹I thought his fight with Fred was the most impressive performance in my heart throughout the yearšŸ„¹finally he won and he cried in the radio, I was just filled with pure sense of happinessšŸ„°
Theo is just a very simple guy who maybe show his emotions much obviously but thatā€™s why I love him. Lots of people said he has been overrated but he has indeed overcome all the difficulties, beard ton of pressure and continuously strives for his dream. I have really seen his growth during the two years and I wish him all the best in the upcoming journey. Happy Graduation Theo! šŸ«¶

hello! since the year is almost over, i wanted to ask what your favorite moments from 2023 were in these series: f1, f2, f3, indycar, and freca/f4 (if you watched those)! happy holidays šŸ’šā¤ļø
f1 ā€“ so so many good ones to choose from!! watching oscar take his first points in his home race was magical. silverstone was pretty insane too, i was pretty much freaking out and not believing my eyes during quali. it felt so surreal, i still smile when i think about it, i remember how i was like jumping and going crazy in front of my tv while my cousin just stared at me like šŸ¤Ø obviously suzuka and qatar too, mclaren podiums will always have a special place in my heart. all of lando's podiums make me so warm too <3 and liam's first points in singapore !!!!
f2 ā€“ it would be silly not to say baku, no? it was such an amazing weekend to experience. ollie truly showed his capabilities and i was very proud <3 i also really loved his feature win in monza, an fda boy in prema's home race and just šŸ„ŗ and zandvoort, obviously! clem!!!
f3 ā€“ more lows than highs lol. no, but monaco was a good weekend, dino first in his quali group and then his 2nd place in the feature <3 paul in hungary, his redemption in the sprint !! and spa before they pitted with paul šŸ¤ hoping for more highlights for dino next year, he was too unlucky in 2023 :(
indy ā€“ i wasn't super into indy this year (planning on watching more actively next year!) but the indy 500 is something that springs to my mind. my whole family was gathered in front of the tv (even my brother and mom who don't really care for motorsports) and we were all so nervous for marcus (ericsson) lol. other than that, all i can remember is waiting up until like 2am for quali one weekend (cant remember which) this summer and then realizing that there was a storm and it was postponed several hours šŸ˜¶
freca/f4 ā€“ hmmm i feel like most of the f4/freca races i watched were pretty unlucky for the drivers i was cheering for lol... all i can remember is arvid being crashed into, and me chatting with people in the live youtube chat lol. ohhhh but freca in zandvoort, the feature when kimi started p8 (?) but took the lead in like 2 laps and then won by 12 seconds despite the red flag, a great way to secure the title šŸ˜

Albon and Sargeant intrigued by Baku Sprint challenge as Williams predict more uncertainty than normal
Williams drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant are interested to see how Formula 1ā€™s revised Sprint format plays out when it is used for the first time at this weekendā€™s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Unlike the previous two seasons, the six F1 Sprint events in 2023 will feature standalone Saturdays, with an extra ā€˜Sprint Shootoutā€™ introduced to set the grid for the 100-kilometre Sprint race. ITā€™S RACE WEEK: 5 storylines weā€™re excited about ahead of the 2023 Azerbaijan Grand Prix That means the Sprint elements are now detached from the remainder of the event, with Friday featuring a one-hour practice session and standard qualifying hour, setting the grid for the Grand Prix itself on Sunday. Previewing the weekend, Albon said: ā€œGoing into Baku, the main talking point is the new format, with the need to get it right on Friday more important than itā€™s ever been. The team has done our prep on the sim, and itā€™s a familiar track, so letā€™s see how the weekend goes.ā€ He added: ā€œMost corners are low speed 90-degree corners, so the requirements of the circuit are quite consistent. If the car is good in one corner around here it tends to be good around the whole lap, and vice versa.ā€ The rapid Baku City Circuit plays host to the first F1 Sprint of the 2023 season F1 rookie Sargeant, who claimed a second-place finish on the streets of Baku in last yearā€™s F2 Feature Race, shared similar feelings to his team mate. ā€œIā€™m super excited to be getting back in the car this weekend in Baku,ā€ said the American. ā€œItā€™s been a long three weeks that weā€™ve used to put in a lot of hard work to keep learning and preparing for this round. READ MORE: One point ā€˜not a fair reflectionā€™ of Williamsā€™ potential in 2023 says team boss Vowles ā€œIt should be an interesting weekend as itā€™s a tough circuit and my first Sprint event. Iā€™m looking forward to taking on the challenge and hopefully having a good weekend.ā€ Leading on from the driversā€™ remarks, Williamsā€™ Head of Vehicle Performance, Dave Robson, believes the Sprint tweaks will only add to the excitement and uncertainty of an already challenging race weekend in Azerbaijan. Albon scored Williamsā€™ sole point of the campaign so far in Bahrain ā€œThe format of the weekend is a little bit different to the Sprint events of recent years with Saturday now a self-contained day and Friday evening qualifying alone setting the grid for the Grand Prix on Sunday,ā€ he commented. ā€œThe streets of Baku always provide an exciting event and this year will be no different. The circuit is challenging for the drivers and the engineers and with very little time to set the car up ahead of Friday evening qualifying, there will be more uncertainty than normal when the cars enter parc ferme. PERSONALITY TEST: Which F1 team should you support in 2023? ā€œThe FW45 should be well suited to the layout in Azerbaijan, but we will need to be agile and pragmatic to get the most out of it given the track resurfacing, the cooler temperatures and the lack of free practice time.ā€ Williams sit at the foot of the F1 constructorsā€™ standings after the first three races on one point, which was scored by Albon at the season opener in Bahrain. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

A shame for yuki and stroll to dnf again :/
OLLIE AND FRANCO BOTH GOT POINTSā€¼ļø which I'm so happy ab like wow??
Idk if i manifested that shit lol but i was feeling like the race was a bit boring oops (compared to f2 where smth always happens) and bam crash btwn carlos/checošŸ§šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
Also fernando and alex in points which i love to seeā˜šŸ»
A good race overall like I'm super happy ab the podium we got - tho i had predicted checo/charles/max lol - and even if we didn't get much drama till the end, I'm glad that there wasn't any severe crash similar to the one that happened this morning during the f2 feature race
