Is there a driver that you think is overrated? AND is there a driver that you think is underrated?
for the f1 ask post
We'll start with underrated, and there are two for me at the moment.
George Russell: I'm always a bit neither here nor there with George, and he definitely had some bad moments early in the season. But during the European leg he really stepped it up, and his form through the back end of the year was excellent. And yet it seemed to be almost overlooked. I think he's in for a strong year next year.
Jack Doohan: Poor, poor Jack. It goes to show how quickly the racing world moves on that everyone's already forgotten his incredible 2023 F2 season, where he romped home to outscore everyone else in the second two-thirds of the year. Had his car not been screwed at the start, he may well have won that title. Jack is very fast, very clever, and, like all the Australians, a bold-as-brass overtaker. He's put in the hard yards to earn this Alpine seat, and all that testing and all those 3am sim sessions working setups has paid off. Unfortunately, poor Jack is currently the target of hatred and abuse from Colapinto fans, who seem to think if they yell loudly enough they'll put him in Jack's seat, and the number of people who are unreasonably pissy about his number choice is too damn high.
Overrateds under the cut, anti tags used.
I'll admit to being biased, but right now, here's who I have:
Lando Norris: Yep. I'm gonna say it. He was never once even remotely close to that title fight and the way the largely British broadcasters carried on as if he were - and as if Oscar should serve only as a loyal doormat - was sickening. He is fast, no doubt about it, but his wheel to wheel does leave something to be desired, and his starts speak for themselves. Helmut Marko got a lot of stick for saying he's not mentally strong enough, but I too believe he lacks the necessary something extra to win. While his radio tantrum in Hungary was bad enough, I actually found his meltdown in the Brazil sprint far worse.
Franco Colapinto: Yes, this one probably has yards of bias as both a Jack and Logan fan, but I do think he has been vastly overrated this year. He was fortunate to come into the Williams after it received a whole host of upgrades, putting the cars on equal footing (something Logan was not permitted for much of the first half of the year). In Baku he only outqualified Alex because of the fan issue on Alex's car, and despite all the disparaging comments about Logan's point only coming from DSQs, Franco's only came because a) Sainz and Perez wiped out and b) Hulkenberg backed off for the expected SC (which didn't come). After that he fell away, and while some wish to blame his crashes on the rain in Brazil - something I will only accept if you also remove blame from Logan for his in Canada - the crash in Vegas was all him. His main strength is that he has an absolutely insane fanbase who seemingly have nothing better to do all day than to spam Argentinean flags and call Jack a turtle.

Is there a race win that really touched you and why?
for the f1 ask post
It sounds cliche, but there are two: Mark Webber's maiden victory in Germany, in 2009, and Daniel Ricciardo's eighth and last win in Monza, 2021.
If you are new around these parts, or too young to remember, Mark was once just as exciting a prospect as Oscar is now. But instead of getting to decent teams, he spent years with Minardi, with Jaguar, and with Williams. Every possible way you can think to DNF, he found it. He was notorious for his bad luck. After Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton combined with their foolish driving to cost him a potential maiden win at Fuji, 2007, the general feeling was that Mark would simply never win a race - he was getting too old, and the Red Bull just wasn't good enough.
Even by mid-2009, there was the sense that his luck just wouldn't allow it. He had been on a tremendous lap at Silverstone, only to be baulked by Raikkonen. Then, when he finally did get pole in Germany, he was given a drive through penalty for a minor tap with Barichello off the start, a tap that caused no issues.
But he drove like he had always threatened that day, and when he finally crossed the line, it was a sense of relief, so overwhelming I thought I would float away. He'd broken the duck, and he had shown the world what he could do.
Likewise, by the time we'd got to Monza in 2021, questions were being asked that I hated. It had been a long slog of a season to that point, and I was still seething from the previous two races. In Spa Daniel had been fast in qualifying, but Sky had declared him knocked out in Q2 before he even finished his lap; in Zandvoort, he had outqualified Norris on merit, only to be ordered to slow down, slow down, slow down, to allow Norris to catch him and overtake him, for what turned out to be a measly single point.
So when he qualified well for the sprint race - indeed, within hundredths of Norris - I was excited. When he finished ahead of Norris in the sprint race, I was even more so. And when Bottas took the engine penalty, and Daniel was promoted to front row...!
To be honest, I had trouble sleeping on Saturday night. I kept waking, afraid i'd missed the race (a ridiculous notion considering the race was Sunday night my time). And over and over again, when I did sleep, I dreamed - I dreamed Daniel got a perfect start, and dashed down to T1, and beat Max there.
So when he actually did it, exactly as I had dreamed, I screamed so loud I must have disturbed my neighbours. I was a total ball of anxiety the rest of the race, rocking anxiously and even pacing my living room. I shrieked when Lewis and Max collided. I swore at Norris when he asked to swap. And I cried and cried and cried when Daniel crossed the line.
He hadn't lost it. He never lost it. My faith in him was always rewarded; never once did he let me down. And because it was then past midnight, he'd done it on my birthday, too.

fic: i can serenade and gently play on your heart strings
Rating: Teen (a single mention of a canonical event with injuries and a death of a background character, offscreen)

Summary:
In a world where soulmates hear half of a song in their hearts, Nigel has never found his - until he arrives at Paul Ricard for a test and hears Elio playing the piano for the first time. But someone like Elio wouldn't want someone like Nigel, right?
...right?
or: five times Nigel ignored his heart-song and the one time Elio made him listen.

What was your reaction to seeing the MSR Logan pictures today!! I am so excited!
I woke up to them! (sometimes being in a complete opposite timezone has its advantages.)
I might have squeaked and yelped a bit. Especially Logan in pink! He looks good. Focused. Ready. I wish there was a way to watch this testing. I guess we'll just have to hear how it went after.
I hope so much that not only does he drive well, but he enjoys it.

Sorry if you've answered this already and I know you're working on gewis prequel now but do you have plans to write the Maxiel story for that verse? I'm dying to find out how Prince Daniel ended up with someone untitled.
Yes! I was actually daydreaming about this story this morning.
The Maxiel story is obviously very much linked to Christian and Toto's story, so it will come after theirs, and that is mapped out in my mind. You will all love the Maxiel meet cute, I hope.
As you've all probably seen, the Big Bang fic turned into both a monster and an agonising labor of pain and love, so I have neglected the britcedes prequel, but that will be back up and running again soon so hopefully you will not have too long to wait.

Summary
Daniel has heard a lot of myths and legends about the Formula One grid since he arrived in Europe. He doesn’t generally pay them any mind, because they’re obviously fake: podium finishers turning into girls or champions sprouting wings sounds like the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard.
Then Daniel actually makes it, and Mark teaches him that one myth is true: a more experienced driver always takes a young driver under his wing, to teach them the ways of the paddock and the sport.
Time passes, and Daniel becomes the experienced one, passing on his wisdom, knowledge, and skill to the next generations. But things don’t always run smoothly, and Daniel finds himself aching and hollow, always seeking one answer: can he really find someone to love for all of his life?
Or: five times Daniel had a fling with another driver, and one time he found the one he wanted to keep.

Britcedes are finally married 🥳🥳🥳
The end of the hungarian gp was...odd to say the least but getting to read the new chapter afterwards healed all wounds. Roughly how many chapters are there left in this fic?
They are finally married!
I cannot talk civilly yet about the end of the Hungarian GP so I am glad I posted that chapter beforehand. I believe we are probably still at least four chapters away from the end as obviously we have certain other things to address ;) but it could be more!
