It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of! For 9 months I carried her in my womb and provided sole nourishment to her and for 9 months outside the womb except for a few messy bites here and there I have exclusively breastfed this little girl. No formula supplementation except for the day she was born until today. I ran out of my frozen stash of pumped breast milk. I’m a little sad but also accomplished that my body has provided 18 months of sole nourishment to this little beauty! I will keep breastfeeding however I’m not producing the extra to keep up with her current and future demands anymore, so Greg gave her her first bottle of formula this morning since birth. UNPOPULAR OPINION POST!!! PART 3 I dont know who out there needs to hear this but it is okay to not want to breastfeed/nurse, it is okay to hate it, it is okay to stop because it is making you miserable, it is okay to not want to pump or not find the time and drive to. Being a mother is about sacrifices but you don't have to make every sacrifice at your own expense, you are allow to say "This isn't working for me." After finally being able to nurse my 4th child I almost felt disgusted with myself for giving up the opportunity to bond through nursing. The truth is those feelings were mom guilt and I was being way too hard on myself. It didn't work for us, pumping did and if pumping didnt work that would have been okay too. We do what works for us. And let me tell you the ease of being able to give my daughter a bottle of pumped milk for me was far better for bonding as I was able to feed her stress free. Breast, bottle or formula...it doesn't matter which one works for you. Your baby needs a healthy and happy mama most of all. 3 months already! I honestly can’t believe it. 😱😍💙 We are still exclusively breastfeeding, still dealing with lots of spit up. I have now cut dairy out of my diet to try and see if that helps at all. The lip and tongue revision got rid of all of my nipple pain while breastfeeding though and we are able to breastfeed in more positions now as well. He is sleeping longer through the night now too, but I’m not 100% sure that it’s directly related to the revision. He is such a happy baby and he is soo strong! It's #breastfeedingawareness week every week. I am so lucky to have an easy journey (so far!) with breastfeeding. This has not only been easy for us, but also quite enjoyable. There were moments in the first 8 weeks that felt a little scary. Questioning my ability to produce, wondering why she wanted the breast all day long, and dealing with painful symptoms. Then I figured out that even if I wasn't producing enough, I would eventually. And she wanted it all the time because she's supposed to want it. UNPOPULAR OPINION POST!!! PART 2 ...and I was miserable! That's right I hated nursing. It was hot, uncomfortable, positionally she preferred me to lie down while she fed, I felt claustrophobic, like I never had any space and all these feelings came with so much guilt. Where was this beautiful moment I was always hearing about? It wasn't beautiful for me, it filled me with so much stress and anxiety. What was wrong with me? For a couple months when people would ask how nursing was going I would say she never quite latched, or had developed a flow preference. I told myself that's what happened. What a big fat lie!! She was on track to being an A+ nurser, myself on the other hand I hated it and was awful at it. Struggling to nurse Cosy and then finding success taught me I actually didn't hate pumping, it was kind of perfect for me. Pumping gives me me time. It allowed me time to unwind after a day at home with 2 under 2. Every day without fail Paul takes over completely first thing in the morning, when he is home from work, after bedtime and in the middle of the night. If one or both kiddos need something it's daddy to the rescue because I'm pumping and success lies in getting a good let down and that doesn't happen with stress. Recently I was picking up Maverick from daycare and one of his friends mom asked how breastfeeding was going. I told her she's breastfed as I pump but not nursing. Having known the initial latching struggles she said "I'm sorry she didnt end up latching. We tried for a month and it just wasn't for us." I'm not sure what came over me but I asked "Did you hate it?" "Pardon?" "Did you hate it because the truth is she latched pretty good in the end but I hated breastfeeding." And from there I listed off all the things I HATED about breastfeeding by the time I was done my word vomit she said "I have never heard anyone say that, and yes I hated it. With everything going on this last week I was really nervous that I would see a big drop in my supply. Between stress, a lack of schedule, no appetite, a virus/cold, and this heat wave making me feel dehydrated, I had myself convinced I wouldn’t be able to continue producing for Millie. Of course, my body proved my anxiety wrong again and with regular pumping, my supply stayed steady. Not to mention, it seems that the Liquid Gold helped Millie fight off the cold much quicker than I did! About two weeks ago, I noticed my supply seemed to be regulating a bit and I was able to drop down to four pumps per day, and it feels like paradise.
