Rise Characterizations Pt. 8!!!!!!!!
This has literally been sitting in my drafts for so long I forgot it existed. Sorry to all the Baron Draxum fans (and Draxum himself, bbgirl deserves better). If you're new to my line of notes here's the beginning where I started with Raph. Alright part 8, Baron Draxum, here we go.
Language Habits:
Speaks in long and drawn out sentences, if you're getting nervous about run-on sentences you're on the right track
Due to this, tends to give speeches or monologues
Dramatizes everything fairly eloquently, look for the most exaggerated form of a word. Classic villain speak: "imbeciles", "brethren", "eliminate"
Puts emphasis on those dramatic adjectives and verbs
Occasionally refers to himself in the third person, not as often as Raph
Tends to yell or raise his voice when frustrated or lost in passion
A common gag is trailing off in a casual tone about the severity of his experiments ie his "if it works right" about the ooze causing pain when mutating that poor fish guy
Personality:
Incredibly intelligent yet impatient. It isn't known to my knowledge who taught Draxum or if he taught himself, but his mastery of alchemy and fighting makes him a truly impressive opponent. However, he's always cutting corners to get to his goal. He wasn't willing to raise through the ranks of The Foot the traditional way, he created an army of mutants rather than seek yokai, and was unwilling to spend further time interpreting the prophecy of doom towards yokai-kind
Flair for the (over)dramatic. Draxum is almost your classic evil villain kind of guy. He'll pull out all musical stops, including flowing hair and clothes. On the other end he'll completely overreact and commit to things of little matter like his position as a lunch lady.
Unyielding in his stubbornness. Draxum is not easily swayed in his belief, and even as hard as Mikey tries he is not rid of his disdain for humans by the end of the series. Guy was also incredibly persistent in his research despite his lab blowing up twice. This also allows him to hold longer grudges, even resorting to childish pettiness if he feels annoyed enough.
Affinity for muscles and power. He was drawn to Lou Jitsu for many reasons, but a main one was definitely his muscles. All his guards are usually incredibly beefy, and he was immediately drawn to Raph as "beautiful" when he's reintroduced to his specimens. As for power, he's drawn to the dark armor and is lost in the ecstasy of being imbued with so much mystic energy.
Self-absorbed and egotistical. Draxum is kind of obsessed with his title and self-proclaimed responsibility for saving yokai-kind. He's not one to easily admit his mistakes and takes great pride in his work.
Willing to toe the line of morality. Huginn and Muninn have blatantly called him their evil boss, but Draxum does see his actions for the good of yokai-kind. I don't think he really cares if he's working with evil organizations (The Foot) or doing evil things if he saves the day.
Team builder. I think it's interesting how Draxum is drawn to building teams. He's drawn to working together, all he wants to do is unite yokai and his mutants into an efficient force. This does not mean he's very successful.
Miscellaneous:
Has minor telekinesis
Was a warrior before he was an alchemist
Does not have a good relationship with the Three Heads (apparent leaders of the Hidden City)
Controls seeds that can a) grow into vines, b) expand into robotic vine gauntlets, c) encase his gauntlets into meatier gauntlets that can shoot out waxy cocoons
Is referred to as a sheep-man from the brothers, but I suppose whatever animal you interpret him as is up to you
Has a great singing voice :) ( which is subjective I suppose)
Alright now that is finally posted just gonna let you know that this Isn't the last of my rise analysis posts!! I'm so sorry for the wait!! I got lost in so many schedule things. I'll try and pump a few more analysis posts out within these next few weeks (excluding June 16-22), but I've also been busy working on miscellaneous wips. Thank you for being so sweet to me on all the other notes posts, you guys are so awesome :)

Loser HCs for the Side Order Bosses (Excluding Final Boss)
LET'S GOOO FINALLY DOING THIS FOR MY GOOBERS! (oh, and also Parallel Canon too.) - [SPOILERS! HEADS UP THERE!] - ======================================= Asynchronous Rondo (Rondo / Roro), The Layered Rotator (She/They) "Rondo's probably the quiet one of the crew, usually just humming her small corrupted tunes to herself while in her area and rarely even chats with anyone (in fact, communication is hard for Rondo!). But aside from being the quiet one, she's also the one making sure the others are aligned and one of the sternest of the few (aside from Order) along with being the most intelligent despite her lack of communication skills. None can escape her sight... she's very much eagle-eyed and will know when you're causing a muck. Although aside from that hubbub, she's actually a relatively nice soul as long as you aren't Eight or anyone that they know. She's actually very good with taking care of the Jelletons that lie within her area, who love the corrupted song that she sings. As long as you aren't a threat to her or to the Jelletons... then you can hang around!... just be vigilant of your actions." ======================================== Pinging Marciale (Marci / MarMar), The Elusive Bounder (They/Them) "Marciale's the chaos-maker and the fun one of the crew, rolling around and causing all sorts of mess (even squishing a few of the loc. Not the face of order at all!... Unfortunately, because of such behavior, they're kept on a pretty short leash with good ol' Order and they HATE that, being in their area and sitting around is so boring! At least let them have fun! Usually whenever they get too bored, they sleep it off... but when they have a lot of energy?... different story. Usually, they can hold it off while playing with the Battering Lentos... but even then, it's easy for them to get bored! They absolutely love screwing with Eight and loves trying to turn them into a piece of "p-eight-per" (paper? get it? alri, I'll stop there 💥). Even if they lose almost all the time, they have fun with it! But with Order constantly hovering over their non-existant shoulders?... yeah it's gonna be hard to even get a small kick out of what they're supposed to be doing... But don't worry! Marciale will do their best to just have fun with things no matter how boring!" ======================================== Parallel Canon (Any Name / Para [Leader]), The Intensifying Harmony (Any) "This group of Artificial Inklings aren't really that emotional... but they're also a wreck waiting to happen. They're usually seen training with each other to see who's the strongest out of them (usually it's the damned roller), having the Jelletons watch on in awe as they spectacularly duke it out for bragging rights! Although they try their best to improve their strategies, they still come up a bit short with Eight. Their Leader (Shooter), Para, is usually the one who plots out who goes where during their fights. But either way... they seemed to be highly fascinated with Eight and how they battle, seeking to try and mimic their abilities and how they fight with the others following suit. Although no matter how much they learn, train, and fight... they still come up short... considering Eight a true rival... Para is determined to get at least one win in against the octoling... although knowing how advanced their skills are, it will be a difficult task... a task that Para and Co. will try!... but Para just can't shake the feeling that there's something... familiar about Eight... almost as if they've met once before in a distant past..." ======================================== And those are my main lil' doodads for the main bosses for Side Order (minus the big cheese themselves), hopefully y'all like them and that's it! I'mma head on over to my hole again, byeee! c:

Hey! Can I request a rise!Donnie or rise!Raph x fem!reader with a reader who is usually very loud and optimistic but has gotten depressed recently due to a boarder-line traumatizing ex attempting to make contact with them at their workplace?
Omg so specific lol and scary
I will try my best! :)
====================
All In Your Head
Rise!Donnie X Fem!Reader
Prompt: Your ex shows up to your job, putting you on edge for the rest of the night.
Pronouns: Feminine (she/her)
Relationship: Dating (not official)
Timeline: Post!Movie
Warnings ⚠️: Angst, mentions of abuse, mentions of mental illness
===================================
You were never good at dating. In fact, you only had one boyfriend in your life, and that only lasted for a few months. But, god, was it one of the worst experiences of your life.
During your time together, your ex-partner was a complete control freak. They never put a hand on you, but the mental manipulation and serial cheating they put you through almost pushed you to the edge.
Often, they made you feel crazy like you couldn’t trust your own self. Your ex had no ability to take responsibility for their actions, so everything was your fault. Obviously you hid their keys when they were in a rush. You obviously wanted to break up when you were hanging out with your friends; you were excluding them.
They would constantly have you thinking you’re the worst girlfriend ever as if you did all those things your ex accused you of.
Eventually, they confessed to you that they were no longer in love with you. They had found someone else and wanted to be with them, not you.
The breakup caused you to slip into a month long depression. You didn’t go out with your friends anymore. You didn’t talk to your parents or siblings. All you did was lie in your bed watching overrated TLC shows.
Gradually, you became your normal boisterous self. Your worried loved ones finally felt some relief as you started hanging out with them regularly, talking, laughing, and extroverted as usual.
You’d also met someone else. Donnie.
Unlike your ex, Donnie cared about you. He always wanted you to be safe, especially since him and his brothers had several enemies and you weren’t equipped to fight any of them off. Sure he could come off as a bit aloof, but you knew he never had the intention to hurt your feelings. He just had trouble understanding certain emotions.
That was better than anything your ex put you through.
•••
You tap away at your phone, texting Donnie that you’d be at your apartment soon. Your boss had basically forced you to take the night shift at the dumpling restaurant even though you had school in the morning. Whatever. Fuck it. You’re graduating soon anyways.
The scientist soon FaceTimed you, which he often did and demanded for you to stay on it until you locked the doors.
“You’re lucky my manager doesn’t care if we’re on our phones or not.” You giggled as soon as Donnie’s face popped up on the screen.
The purple clad turtle shrugged lazily, leaning back in the rolling chair he was sat in. “They’ll have to deal with it either way. Making sure you get home safe is a priority for me.”
Your heart nearly leaped out of your throat when he’d said that so nonchalantly. “Aw, my knight in shining armor.”
“Hardly.” Donnie spoke firmly with a deadpan expression. “I like to think of myself as the literary Bad Boy archetype: a social outcast going against the grain in the name of science.”
With a shrug, you placed the phone on the counter, propping the device up on your bag. “Eh, I’d say you’re more of The Outlaw.”
His drawn-on eyebrows furrowed. “You think I’m ‘potentially criminal’?”
“You remember talking to me about that weird crystal you stole from Draxum?” You smirked at him as you picked the phone back up and ambled over to the front doors to lock them.
Donnie hummed to himself before raising an eyebrow. “Touché.”
After locking the doors, you turned around to gather your belongings. You angle the phone up, facing you at eye level.
“Okay, I’m almost done. Just gotta…” your words trail off as Donnie had leaned closer towards the screen, a concerned yet curious expression adorning his features. “What…?”
“Who’s that behind you? At the door.”
A cold sweat soon overtook your body. Donnie would never mess around with you like that.
Instead of turning around, you gazed at your reflection in the phone. What you saw made you drop the device and press your hands against your lips.
It was your ex.
“(Y/N)? (Y/N), what happened? (Y/N)!” Donnie’s voice was laced with worry.
Without replying to him, you scooped your phone off the floor and ran into the back where your manager, Collin, was counting drawer.
When he saw you shivering with your back pressed against the door, he instantly stood up. “(Y/N), what happened? Are you all right?”
“I-I—” you stuttered heavily. “Someone’s… someone’s at the door…”
Collin cocked an eyebrow as he gently pushed you aside and opened the door. He’s silent for a few seconds before shutting the door, shrugging while doing so. “I don’t see anybody. Do you want me to walk you home anyways?”
You immediately nodded, grabbing your stuff as you waited for Collin to finish counting drawer.
• • •
At your apartment, you remain on FaceTime with Donnie. He had been interrogating you for like fifteen minutes: “who was that?”, “why did Collin have to walk you back?”, “Was it a supervillain?”. On and on.
“Donnie, please just relax.” Your voice shook slightly. “It wasn’t anybody you know.”
Right after that statement, there’s a loud pounding at your bedroom window. You dart your eyes over to it, but your fears are instantly nullified.
You sighed deeply as you slid the glass open to allowed the purple clad turtle to enter your room. “God, you scared the shit outta me.”
He shut the window behind him before surveying your empty Red Bull can littered room, the fixing his gaze onto you. “What did you mean by ‘it’s not anybody I know’?”
You felt your stomach drop as he reminded you of work’s events. “Donnie, I duwanna talk about it right now. Just know that that person is awful.”
The turtle’s eyebrows furrowed. You didn’t normally talk like this. If anything, you would say some sort of quip or reference to American Literature. Something his younger twin would say. But now you just seemed shaky and afraid of something he didn’t understand. And that bothered him. But nonetheless, he didn’t like seeing you upset.
Donnie exhaled. “Okay, fine.”
The two of you sat in a comfortable silence—both you and Donnie tapping away on your phones—for several minutes before you made a proposition.
“Can you… do you think you could maybe… stay over?” I’d been a few months since he stayed over the whole night. Often, the scientist would say that he had projects to work on or a mission to go on or something like that.
He shrugged lazily with a slight smile on his face. “I suppose so if that’ll make you feel better.”
Your sigh of relief causes Donnie to question your behavior. “It’s just… you usually have something to do instead.”
The purple clad turtle hummed to himself. “Well, I can tell you’re afraid of that person at your job, and now you’re afraid to be by yourself. And I think you’re a little more important to me than a project that isn’t even half way off the ground.”
You weren’t sure if Donnie fully understood how much that meant to you: to put off a project just because your ex decided to show up to your job out of nowhere and fuck up your entire night. All you knew is that he was definitely 10x better than your ex.

Could you give me a recap on the David lore because I forgor :’(
Oh boy that’s a loooong question (also rather comical and foreshadowing) /pos
Ok I’ll give ya all the David lore I have. I’ll go in timeline and say where the main two aus diverge as both aus have the same start.
David Evans was born in Australia (10th of October, 1956) after their parents had moved from Wales 11 years previously. Growing up he was the only ‘girl’ out of the kids and his parents were unfortunately rather misogynistic and so treated him poorly. His mother was mother the verbal abuse kind while his father was physically agressive. His three brothers (well one ended up transitioning later but i’ll keep it simple) who were about 9-8 years older than him were mostly good siblings (excluding his oldest brother who mostly mimicked their dad and was a general asshole).
(Somewhere in the childhood part David sees the Beatles perform on their famous Ed Sullivan show appearance and he became obsessed with them. This obsession continues on for the rest of his life)
He started transitioning in his late teens and his parents were wholeheartedly supportive of it as they just really didn’t want to have a daughter. David’s sister unfortunately didn’t get the same love when she transitioned and was shunned by their parents and older brother (also the youngest brother ended up dying at the age of 12 from drowning I think).
Anyways so David gets an extreme interest in mechanics and engineering and purses a course in it.
Now this is where timelines diverge and I’m gonna use colour coded text to tell ya which au the info is from. Red = Canon AU, Purple = Non-Canon AU
David fails the course and gets a job as a janitor at the local Freddy Fazbenders. While he works there he falls in love with a dayshift worker named Toby, they start dating until everyone’s favourite Tangerine and Aubergine show up at the location. They start causing chaos and eventually rig the suit to go off and due to neither of them showing up David is forced to wear the suit by their boss. He dies and is sent to the factory to become a phone guy (at the age of 29). (While at the factory an employee there glues roller skates to David’s feet so they’re permanently stuck there.)
He starts working back at Freddy’s, seeing Toby but not knowing who he is, Toby doesn’t realise at first either. But as soon as he does he ends up being fired.
David works at the location for a few years before being sent back to the factory to wait until he’s needed.
This results in him working for Mr J (the same Tangerine from earlier(the best way to describe Mr J is that he’s more like the business Jack in dsaf 3, more caring for money then people.) and he is just the worst boss. The only good thing he does is giving David his alive name back to him but doesn’t actually let him use it in public. He abuses David verbally and physically, poor dude is just covered in bruises, tiny cuts and burn marks from Mr J’s taser as well as his skeleton just having so many fractures and improperly healed breaks. (Funfact cause this whole thing takes place in Australia, healthcare is free so Mr J could let David go to hospital for 0 charge but he doesn’t.) Mr J just continues to make him work like that.
Due to the phoney process David’s body can no longer age, permanently frozen at the age he died. He’s mostly immortal because of that.
During the time when his partner Toby was firstly fired a child randomly spawned in the house he and David had been living in and so Toby just started raisin them as his kid (Jay).
Long story short of that part after David leaves freddys (due to a complicated cross-over event) he goes to find Toby only to find Jay living there as a fully grown adult with his own (adopted kid) and to learn that Toby had died a while ago in a car crash.
David starts living with his family and starts to notice that immortality thing as he watches his son and granddaughter growing older but he doesn’t seem to change. It finally clicks in his head when his son dies (natural causes) and he stays as close to his granddaughter and her kids as he can, not wanting to loose them.
He slowly starts to disassociate and becomes a but reclusive, the only thing he still has is a dog named Parasite (complicated au cross-over event that carried over to the canon. Basically Parasite used to be a clone of mr j but he got turned into a small lil mutant doggo and mellowed out, becoming David’s therapy dog)
David does get to meet all his descendants though and he tries to be as loving and caring to them as his was to his son and granddaughter.
Ok finally time for the other one!
So this time around David passes the course and gets a job at Freddys as a technician. While he works there he falls in love with a man named Toby (same one as before).
David ends up starting to work for Afton Robotics and works his way up in the company.
One day a child spawns inside their home (Jay, yes he just spawns because its just funnier), David notices how Jay looks identical to how he looked as a kid so they both decide to keep and raise them.
A few years later Toby passes away in a car accident leaving David alone to raise Jay while still workin at Afton Robotics. He does his best and tries to make things work around raising Jay and still making sure the company doesn’t fall behind on things (as by this point the original owner and operator of Afton Robotics had been revealed to be a fraud and was sent to prison, David being basically in second command basically became the new owner and operator). Two years after Toby’s death David starts dating again and falls in love with a dude named Joia. They date for about 3 years before getting married. (David is 40 when he marries Joia)
Blah blah wholesome cute family stuff with raising Jay and Jay eventually going and adopting a daughter (Moon).
David is 59 and Joia is 57 when Jay adopts Moon and they continue to be a happy family together.
At the age of 67 David starts to notice his slipping memory and general recall issues and so he and Joia end up going to the doctors about it, they come back finding out that David is in the early stages of dementia. As the years go on he starts to be affected more and more by the dementia, loosing memories and the ability to walk, not wanting to talk, sleeping more and more, being easily confused at where he is and who his family is.
Joia stays by David through it, slowly watching his husband fade away. Jay and Moon both visit frequently to check in on them and spend time with them.
David eventually is taken into the hospital as Joia was informed he only likely had a week left. By this point David has no idea who Joia, Jay or Moon are. To him its just a room of strangers.
The last day he ends up getting his memories back for a short while (something that does rarely happen with dementia irl) and he gets to give a proper goodbye to his family. Joia holds his hand and kisses him one last time on the cheek before David falls asleep again. He sleep for about 30 minutes, his breathing getting slower and slower until he forgets how to breathe and dies at age 85
(And because my friends didn’t want it to be that sad heres the extra part)
David becomes a ghost, regaining all his memories, staying with Joia as he just couldn’t bare to leave him behind. Joia can’t see or hear him, he doesn’t even know he’s there but he does talk to himself sometimes in a way thats meant to be a conversation with David. David answers but yk he can’t be heard by Joia.
About 6 years later Joia also passes away and they are reunited in the afterlife to spend eternity together.
So there you go, all the David lore you could ask for!

AT LEAST $1000 A MONTH NOW, AND IT PROBABLY HAD SOMETHING OF THE OLD MEDIUM—WHICH FAILS, AND YOU GET A VALUABLE NEW RESOURCE YOU CAN USE TO FIGURE OUT A PROGRAM COMPLETELY ON PAPER BEFORE EVEN GOING NEAR A COMPUTER
Good news: users don't care where you went to college. It's that it tends to become the founders' bosses, which is why this trend began with them. We had to spend thousands on a server somewhere, and watching the money roll in—without ever having more than ten years, just as a consultant, so they know who might be sitting across that conference table from them. I usually spend weeks on an essay. This point is due to Trevor Blackwell, David Cann, Sanjay Dastoor, Paul Gerhardt, Cameron Robertson, Harj Taggar, and Garry Tan for reading drafts of this essay, Richard Florida told me how he had once talked to a group of people they didn't already know. They may not be the right thing to do. But that is exactly the point. At a test that excludes Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, the founder who has made something users love will have an easier time raising money, the investors get a great deal smarter and more articulate than Bush, but rather that small groups can be select. Even a VC friend of mine rarely does anything the first time they raised money. It might seem foolish to sell stock in a liquidity event, founders should start companies that make it Silicon Valley, where the troops of the central government can't follow. For example, knowing what to do, which is the first step up a big mountain. But things don't always go smoothly in startups.
It's a particularly good time either. This would be like drinking from a firehose. First Two Hundred Years. So who are the 5 who've influenced me most? Like the rest of your working life. And finally, if a startup regularly does new deals and releases and either sends us mail or shows up at YC events, they're probably a real partner. It's Charisma, Stupid November 2004, corrected June 2006 Occam's razor says we should prefer the simpler of two explanations. He wouldn't know the right clothes to wear, the right place and you've made something that a few months, it can make you. We're more confident. So in effect what's happened is that a programming language is.
I don't know exactly what they're supposed to think. Why the pattern? Certainly some rejected Google. The other is that some of the most useful mental habits I know I repeat this, but one way to do it, they'll make their own. They sold their software on eBay for a quarter of the CS majors could make it self-perpetuating through an alliance with power. Such things happen constantly to the biggest organizations of all, probably, is humor. And if you don't go to that extreme; it caused him a lot of similarities between the startups that can succeed, regardless of its de facto purpose. This is sometimes referred to as runway, as in many fields the rule will be: Build it, and c the groups of applicants you're comparing have roughly equal distribution of ability. It's also one of the best young researchers, you could make your products beautiful just by hiring a lot of people, I like to work for and apply to join them. It's basically the diminutive form of belligerent. Instead of treating beauty as an airy abstraction, to be either blathered about or avoided depending on how much they can grow the acquisition into what it would do to the VC firm. The idea of a foul-mouthed, cynical 10 year old had about that would probably be a pretty cheap experiment, as civil expenditures go.
Why else would this idea occur in this odd context? And as many programmers have observed since, one is very similar to the rule that haste makes waste. So it is no surprise that the pointy-haired bosses yet, you can try importing startups on a larger scale than Youtube clips. To the graphically unsophisticated its deliberately minimal design seemed like no design at all. Programming languages are interesting to write, and Microsoft's first product was one, in fact. To them the company is their performance. We were all just written on paper—would programmers of the 1960s and 1970s, when it was IBM before them. At Viaweb the key to this mystery is to rephrase the question for them. I was in college that one ought to vote for Kerry. The conclusion being, say, half a million, I don't think this is the only kind that work everywhere. I think the difference between surgeons and internists fleas: Gary and I ordered a large pizza and found an open booth.
Like it or not, you're planning to disprove the Pie Fallacy. Even the founders who responded to my email. Investors have no idea what they mean is decreasing poverty. It's a todo list. The part of angel investing that has most effect on your returns, picking the right companies, is the root of the problem is that you're bored. A rounds. ___, And since we're new to fundraising, we feel like we have to reach back into history again, though this time not so far.
Even now, most people who try to think of the people who might want what you're making, then the post-money valuation of your last funding round. When you're just typing expressions into the toplevel, you want to make a more deliberate effort to stay there, instead of that the Democrats are out of touch with evangelical Christians in middle America. There hasn't been such a wave of secondary effects. Probably the reason this subject is so contentious is that some of those most vocal on the subject of writing now tends to be the cockroaches of the corporate ladder had a value analogous to the solution I recommend for pitching your startup: do the right thing to do is smack hackers on the side of being harsh to founders. In theory, that could be weeded out. All you need is a great hacker, the way to win is to race ahead, not to destroy the IPO market. We fund a dozen startups at a time will obviously happen faster if the rate of change in a few long sessions than many short ones.

part 9 of Cathexis
a/n: hiiii i’ve been working on this update and haven’t done much else lol. it’s a long update but i didn’t want to split it. after this ill work on the stuff in my inbox :)
wc: 4.1k+
Cathexis
Expecting the unexpected was a concept that had been engrained into your psyche at a young age. It saved you countless of times during missions and only improved over time—at least until that fateful meeting with Illumi. Since then, your actions grew erratic and the precautions you once took when dealing with the unknown were forgotten. When it came to Illumi, you were a reckless mess and it was that recklessness that led to your current situation—Illumi’s lips pressed against yours.
Maybe it was the adrenaline that coursed through your veins whenever Illumi was nearby. Or perhaps it was your inexperience in all things carnal. Whatever the reason, you didn’t reject his kiss and instead tilted your head to give him ease of access to your mouth.
Illumi’s kiss was paradoxical.
Unlike his cold cut-throat self, Illumi’s lips were gentle and almost hesitant against yours. He took his time caressing, nipping, and sucking on your lips until they tingled with numbness. It wasn’t until you let out a whimper that Illumi’s warm tongue delved into your mouth and languidly tasted every crevice, clouding your mind with desire.
The low groan that erupted from his throat and reverberated in your conjoined mouths was what snapped you out of your hazy state of mind to reality. Your hands traveled up Illumi’s chest and gently pushed him away until the clear strand of saliva connecting the two of you broke.
“We can’t,” you panted and you couldn’t help but notice his parted swollen lips, labored breathing, and the dust of pink on his cheeks. Illumi looked beautiful and that realization alone frightened you enough to tear your gaze away from him.
“Is it because of Hisoka?” The accusatory tone threw you off.
“Wha- no!” You blurted out in disbelief. “Why are you even bringing him up?”
Illumi’s hand took you by the chin and forced you to face him. The intensity of his gaze was unsettling as he scrutinized your face and you tore away from his grasp as soon as you could.
“Forget it. I’ll let you rest.” He stated, any remnant of emotion stripped from his voice.
As Illumi stood up and sauntered to the door, your mouth opened with a protest on the tip of your tongue but your sense of judgement returned, effectively killing the words on the spot.
If Illumi resented you for rejecting him, he didn’t show it when he visited the next morning with Canary in tow. As the young butler fed you your medicine and helped you with your physical therapy, the weight of Illumi’s eyes made you wish he’d been upset enough to avoid you.
But that wasn’t Illumi and the assassin escorted you to a greenhouse in a corner of the Zoldyck mansion where a breakfast for two was set up. Breathing in the fresh air and admiring the beautiful flora around you was enough to take your mind off the previous night’s events. So when Illumi helped you take a seat on the wrought iron chair before taking his seat opposite you, any lingering awkwardness dissipated and all of your attention was on the plate of food in front of you.
After taking a couple bites, you turned your attention to the assassin in front of you and broke the comfortable silence to get any information you could about the world outside the mansion’s walls.
“How was your mission?”
“It went well. The target was eliminated.”
“Where was the job?” You asked, pushing the subject to see if it would take you where you wanted.
“York New,” Illumi then paused, narrowing his coal eyes slightly. “Why do you ask?”
“Oh, just curious,” you took a sip of juice. “I’m just not used to being holed up in one place for too long.”
“Then just tell me.” He leaned forward and uncrossed his arms. “What do you want to know.”
You sighed knowing there would be no beating around the bush with Illumi. “The aftermath…of Saul’s death.”
Illumi quirked his head and furrowed his brow slightly as he thought over your words for a moment before the metaphorical light bulb went off in his head. “Ah- you want to know if your reputation is still in ruins.”
You winced at his harsh words but nodded, nonetheless. “I just want to know what awaits me when I go back.”
“It’s not what it used to be but his death definitely helped.” He paused for a second. “That mafia boss also did some damage control in your stead.”
“Who? Ruo Wen?” Illumi nodded before finishing the last bit of his breakfast.
The last time you’d been in contact with your last client, he’d merely confirmed your payment and wished you a speedy recovery but didn’t say anything beyond that. Ruo Wen wasn’t the type of person to go around doing favors for others without something in return, so you anticipated that the next time he contacted you for a job there would be no denying him.
“I suppose it’s better than nothing,” you admitted, stabbing a piece of fruit with your fork. “I’ll be able to get some work.”
“You wouldn’t have to worry about that if you married me,” he suggested and memories of the night before flooded your mind.
“I-I can’t-” There was an edge to your voice as you scrambled to come up with an excuse.
“But you eventually will so why not get it over with.” Illumi pushed and you knew he wouldn’t be satisfied until you gave him an answer
“Because! I-” You took a deep breath to steady yourself. “I’m in no rush to get married. I need to help my parents as much as I can and I’d like to enjoy whatever time I have left being single.”
The assassin remained silent and you decided to get some answers for yourself. “Why did you kiss-”
An unfamiliar presence in the greenhouse caused you and Illumi to turn in the direction where it came from. It was Illumi who recognized the intruder first and called out to them.
“What are you doing here, Kil?”
Silver hair emerged from the greenery and you smiled at the sight of Killua, your preferred Zoldyck. The young boy looked surprised to see Illumi and visibly tensed when Illumi stood up, simultaneously emitting the faintest hint of bloodlust.
“Canary said Y/N was in here…” Killua stopped when Illumi took a couple of steps towards him. Seeing him in action, you were reminded of the type of person Illumi Zoldyck was and your convoluted feelings towards him sorted themselves out.
“That’s enough, Illumi.” You reached out and held his wrist in a vice-like grip.
“He interrupted us,” Illumi deadpanned
“No, we’re done here.” Was your pointed reply before releasing his wrist. “I want to spend time with Killua.”
The slight tensing of his jaw was all you needed to confirm he wasn’t pleased with your declaration but you stood your ground until Illumi finally relented.
“I have a meeting with father so I’ll leave first.” Illumi turned to leave but not before addressing his brother. “Take care of her, Kil.”
Looking down at the forest from the top of Kukuroo mountain reminded you of home. The thin air and cool winds that tickled your face were so familiar you couldn’t believe it. All you had to do was close your eyes to picture the cliff your home sat upon and hear the waves of the sea crashing against it. Most of the memories you held near and dear to your heart involved diving off the cliff into the cool sea water with—
“Y/N!”
Immersed in your memories, you opened your eyes expecting to see your brother but found a worried Killua instead.
“It looked like you wanted to jump off.” He motioned to your hands gripping the balcony’s railing and your body leaning over.
“Ah-sorry! This just reminded me of the cliff back home. My little brother and I like to dive off of it into the sea.”
Stepping away from the balcony, you resumed walking the perimeter of the mansion. After being cooped up inside for so long, your readily accepted Killua’s tour of the Zoldyck family’s grounds and the two of you were just about finished.
“Illumi never mentioned you had a brother.
“Well he’s only eleven plus he hasn’t gotten his license yet.” Was your explanation although you doubted Illumi and the Zoldyck adults didn’t know about your baby brother given their profession and the relationship of your families.
“Is he also getting his when he turns thirteen?” There was a liveliness in his step and big blue eyes that reminded you of your brother. So as Killua matched your slower pace and waited for your reply, you found yourself caring about the middle Zoldyck sibling more than you’d ever anticipated.
“Yes, it’s our family’s tradition. In fact, I haven’t been able to see him lately because he’s been busy training.”
“Is the Hunter Exam that hard?”
You paused, thinking back on your experience, before you formulated your response. “It’s difficult for most adults with years of martial arts training so you can imagine how hard it must be for a kid. That being said, your family, like mine, doesn’t raise children normally so I’m sure if you ever decided to take the exam you would pass.”
The smile that spread across Killua’s face was infectious and you matched it with as much vigor and went so far as to ruffle his soft silver hair affectionately.
For the remainder of your stay at the Zoldyck mansion, you failed to cross paths with Illumi again. Upon returning to your room after spending the entire day with Killua, Canary informed you of Illumi’s departure for a long mission and the news came as a relief to your troubled mind.
You hoped that the time apart would serve to smother the flames of attraction Illumi’s kiss ignited.
Any further interaction with the Zoldycks—excluding Killua—was also avoided as most of them also embarked on missions of their own. The one’s left behind had been Kikyo, Milluki, and Killua which meant you weren’t summoned to any more awkward meals with the former two. For the last few days of your stay, you watched over Killua train for the upcoming Hunter Exam.
On your last day, you bid Killua and Canary farewell and trekked down the mountain debating where to go. York New was always a possibility but with your reputation the jobs would surely be difficult in your weakened state. Heaven’s Arena was also a possibility but the thought of crossing paths with a certain magician changed your mind. In the end, your weakened state and the time spent with Killua contributed to your destination—home.
A quick call to your mother confirmed your brother’s return home from his training trip and you looked forward to the time you’d spend together with him while regaining your strength. On the way to Padokea’s capital airport, you stopped by a souvenir shop to look for a gift for your brother. It was a fun little tradition in your family to bring souvenirs to him after returning home from missions, and as far as you knew, your parents hadn’t stepped foot onto Padokea ever since that event almost nineteen years ago.
A miniature version of Kukuroo Mountain on a shelf caught your eye and, after checking the price, you picked it up and took to the front. As the cashier rang you up, your phone rang with an unknown number lighting up your screen. You answered it immediately thinking it was a potential client but Illumi spoke instead.
“What did you tell him?” It was faint but you could hear the vexation in his voice.
“Tell who?”
“Killua ran away from home after injuring Mother and Milluki and I think you have something to do with it.”
You scoffed in disbelief before shutting down his accusation. “I didn’t tell Killua to attack your mother and brother. He was curious about the Hunter Exam so he probably left to take it.”
A harsh, derisive laugh filled your ear as you took your gift and stormed out of the shop. “Only a few days and you already filled his mind with foolish notions.”
“And what’s so bad about Killua becoming a hunter?”
“He’s not cut out to be a hunter. He was raised to be an assassin and cannot stray from that path.” Illumi answered, as if the reason had been obvious all along.
“He’s just a kid and deserves to have a say in what he wants to do.” You replied firmly, remembering the excited expression on Killua’s face during training. “He can work as a hunter just as well-”
“Of course an outsider like you wouldn’t understand. The Zoldyck name is synonymous with assassins. The heir can’t possibly be hunter instead.”
Illumi spoke to you like a child and if there was one thing you hated most it was being belittled. You’d been plagued by it during your rookie years and refused to go through the same thing again—even if it came from a dangerous man like Illumi.
“You’re right, Illumi, an outsider like me will never understand the inner workings of the Zoldyck family so maybe this engagement shouldn’t take place.”
Ending the call before Illumi could reply, you took a couple deep breaths before making your way to the airport now more eager than ever to return home and escape the madness that was Illumi Zoldyck.
Unlike your previous visit home, you took your time passing through the small town near your home. It was a small town that mostly profited off fishing. Many of the grounds people that worked at your home belonged to families that had lived in town for generations. Such was the case, the people that waved as you passed by were familiar to you and they knew you as well.
“Y/N!”
The distinct raspy voice from behind you sure enough turned out to be Jakob, a fisherman and the son of your family’s cook. He was a couple years older than you but the two of you grew up together and he’d been the one to teach you how to swim.
“Long time no see, Jakob! How’ve you been? How’s Petra?”
“I’m hanging in there,” Jakob grinned and held out a wooden box to you. “Petra’s six months pregnant, you see.”
You took the box and found it to be heavy and smelled like fish. “Oh congratulations! I can’t believe it’s already been a year since your marriage. You better be treating her well, Jakob.”
“I know, I know.” He replied with a roll of his eyes. “By the way, take that to my dad so he can cook it up for you and your brother. It’s from today’s catch.”
A peak into the box confirmed your suspicion and you recognized it as your brother’s favorite.
“Thanks,” you replied and closed the box. “Do you know what it’ll be?”
“The baby? It’s a girl. We found out last week.” He admitted with the biggest-shit eating grin you’d ever seen.
“She will be spoiled rotten by the two of you and your dad!” You laughed imagining old man Olvar playing with his granddaughter. “I don’t know much about kids but I’ll be sure to prepare a gift for her.”
“Thanks, Y/N,” and Jakob paused. “What about you? When are you settling down and having a family of your own?”
Jakob’s words triggered the memory of your first conversation with Illumi and you shuddered remembering his expectations of a wife.
“Not anytime soon,” you replied, shaking your head to rid yourself of the memory. “Well, I should really head up now. Say hi to Petra for me!” And with that, you said goodbye to your childhood friend and continued the trek up to your family’s home.
Passing the last home in the outskirts of town, the paved road ended and the dirt road that led all the way to your home began. The incline was quite steep but after years of climbing, you hardly noticed it. Besides, the scenery that surrounded it served as a distraction. To your left was a thick coniferous forest that stretched for miles inland and supplied the town with plenty of lumber and game. On the right was the cliff’s edge and the crashing waves of the sea below. You could practically taste the salty sea water just from the wind itself as it blew past you, whipping your hair and causing goosebumps to form across the surface of your skin.
You wanted nothing more than to drop everything and jump into the chilling waters below. It was very tempting but you figured it would be more enjoyable with your brother so you picked up the pace.
No matter how many times you visited, the warm tickling sensation in your chest never failed to manifest when you stood on the front lawn and peered up at the imposing centuries-old structure. If there was one thing your grandfather did right, it was refurbishing the old family home. Electricity flowed through every corner of the house giving it the heat and lighting it needed while the new plumbing system gave adequate water supply to all of the bathrooms and kitchens. Therefore, while the outside walls gave off the appearance of an old fortress, the interior was as modernized as any home built in the last fifty years.
Upon entering, you instantly felt a presence following your every move and it only took a moment to realize who it was. Deciding to humor him, you took the wooden box and headed towards the kitchen waiting for your little brother to emerge.
After reaching the annex, a shadow to your right caught your eye but you were faster and avoided the small fist that whizzed past your right arm.
“Ugh, you noticed me didn’t you?” Your little brother pouted, relaxing his shoulders and stance.
“Nice to see you too, ” you grinned and reached out to ruffle his hair. “And of course I did you were way too obvious.”
He slapped your hand away and patted down his hair before his eyes lit up at the sight of the wooden box and the gift bag you brought. “Are those for me?”
“Well I suppose they both technically are but the fish in the box is dinner. The bag is your souvenir from Padokea.”
You handed him the bag before picking up the box. “Now let’s take this to Olvar.”
By the time you settled in, it was dinner time and you joined your brother in the dining room. It was then that the two of you caught up since the last time you seen each other almost a year ago. You told your brother about your missions and the training you did but made sure to leave out any information about Illumi and the Zoldycks. It had been one of the conclusions you and your parents came to when discussing the debt’s repayment; your little brother would have nothing to do with it.
“So how was Padokea? I don’t think our parent’s have ever been there.”
“Lots of forests and mountains and the towns are nice.” Was your short reply and you steered the conversation towards your brother. “So how was training? Where did you go again?”
“Rokario,” He replied, stabbing a piece of fish with his fork but said nothing else to your surprise.
“Hmmm isn’t that near the NGL?” you commented. “I don’t think I’ve been to the Mitene Union.”
That last comment captured your brother’s attention and he stared at you wide-eyed. “Really?! You’ve never been there?”
For the remainder of the evening, your brother went told you everything he knew about Rokario, NGL, and the other neighboring countries. He spent a large amount of time discussing the people, flora, and fauna native only to that area of the known world. He also told you about the medicinal properties of different plants from treating a common cold to serving as a poison antidote. In the end, he didn’t tell you about his training but you figured you’d find out first-hand over the next few days.
Training was to a hunter as sunlight was to plants; it was vital to their growth. That was a fundamental that’d been passed down in your family and was engraved in you. So over the next few days when you observed your little brother’s movements and Nen strength, it became clearer that he’d slacked off in training. He was more than happy to help you out with your training but when it was his turn he’d get tired quickly and would leave to rest.
You debated when to address the issue and in the end decided to do it the day before you were set to leave. The two of you went swimming for hours before heading to shore and eating the food Olvar had packed you.
“So…what happened,” you began taking a swig of water to wash down your food. “You’ve been slacking off during training.”
Panic flashed on your brother’s face before he looked away. “The thing is…I don’t think I want to be a hunter.”
“Wait, what? Not be a hunter?” You couldn’t believe what you’d just heard. “We’re hunters, B/N. That’s just who we are. It’s family tradition!”
“I want to help people. I want to be a doctor. I want to go to school and be a normal kid!” Tears welled up in your brother’s eyes as he looked at you.
“O-okay, we can always just postpone taking the exam so you can go to school but-”
He stood up suddenly and shook his head, tears falling on the floor. “No! You don’t get it, Y/N! I don’t want to take the exam ever! I just want to do what I want to do, not what you, mom, and dad want me to do!”
With that, your brother darted towards the house leaving you dumbfounded and confused. Ever since he first started to talk, he’d always wanted to be a hunter like the rest of you. Your parents even had him start his training early since he’d follow you around anyway. Not to mention, he also had a natural talent when it came to martial arts and was strong—even before finding out he was an Enhancer.
That night, after dining alone, you tried to figure out what had changed your brother’s mind and concluded that something must have happened during his trip. The conversation you had with him regarding the trip came to mind and you remembered the animated way he told you about the people, animals, and plants. Your brother’s face when he told you about the different medicinal properties of plants came to mind. He looked so excited and proud of himself…almost like Killua when he was training with you for the Hunter Exam.
“Hah…”
The bitter realization that you’d acted just like Illumi was like a slap in the face. What right did you have to judge Illumi when here you were telling your brother he had to become a hunter? Once you came to that realization, you thought about Illumi’s reasoning behind not wanting Killua to stray from his path and wondered if it was similar to yours. You fell asleep late that night mulling over what you would tell your brother and whether you should apologize to Illumi.
The next morning, after packing a bag for your trip, you headed to your brother’s room and knocked on his door. You heard shuffling in his room after the first few knocks but he never opened the door, so you decided to talk anyway hoping he wasn’t too upset to ignore you.
“I’m sorry about yesterday. It’s just you caught me off guard and I didn’t know how to react. You deserve to do what makes you happy and if that’s being a doctor then I’ll support you and we can talk to mom and dad about it when you’re ready. I would like for you to at least take the Hunter Exam, though. You don’t have to be hunter but it would be nice if you were licensed at least plus there’s a lot of benefits that come with it.”
You paused to see if he would open the door but you didn’t hear him move. “Well, I’m heading out now. Stay safe, okay?”
In the end, you weren’t able to see you brother again so you asked the grounds people and Olvar to look after him while your parents were away. Leaving home was always a melancholic event but this departure in particular was gloomier than usual. You wanted your brother to be happy but the family’s legacy remained steadfast in your mind.
With a sigh, you pulled out your phone. The number Illumi had called you from had been a payphone and you had no other means of contacting him, so you scrolled through your contacts until a particular name appeared on your glowing screen.

Downfall of a Liar
This is a Lukanette fic. Some fluff, some angst, a lot of salt and Luka being a King of Revenge. You all get to see the more conniving part of our snake boi. Hope you enjoy! Haven’t figured out how to use links yet but my Ao3 username is the same. Basically, Lila Rossi has gone too far and Luka Couffaine is going to do something about it. He is, after all, a Couffaine… a little chaos never frightened him.
Marinette came to him on a Friday afternoon with sad eyes and tear-stained cheeks. Her knees were bleeding and her wrists were bruised, hair messy and lip busted. Her dress was ruined with an ugly paint smear and her stockings underneath were ripped.
“I fell down the stairs,” She told him, looking away. “I didn’t mean to. I must’ve fallen into some paint.”
Luka didn’t believe this.
The wobble in her voice and the unsteady way she had stumbled right into his chest when she saw him was not the actions of a girl used to her own clumsy feet. Marinette was a strong girl and he knew how much of a burden was placed onto her shoulders. She did not crack easily and she did not do it over being a klutz or smudged paint. She did not cry over repairable things, over broken nails or washable clothes. She did not come to him looking upset and watery-eyed without feeling one step from breaking.
These were things he knew.
So, after calming her down and getting her to take a shower, offering her clean clothes and a warm bed, and letting the girl he fell in love with fall asleep on his chest to the sound of his heartbeat, he did some digging.
He went to his sister first and found out the real story.
Marinette was in the art workshop, Mrs. Bustier having set up a lesson in there during the last hour of the day, with the other members of the band as she helped Nathan and Marc on their story.
She was honestly just being nice— as Jules explained— then the bitch, his sister’s respective name for Lila, sauntered into the room and started to wail about how Mari was only helping the two co-creators because she wanted the credit for their work.
The girl he fell in love with defended herself, and her friends did the same but with most of the Akuma class— excluding the band members and Nathaniel— having fallen for her tails of woe and amazing, yet false, life experiences, they sided with the liar instead of Mari.
Then, throughout the rest of the class, the bitch found ways to terrorize Marinette (going as far and tripping her and cutting her dress with scissors, dropping her paint onto her, pushing her into things, or slamming different objects onto her wrists) and then blame her for getting in the way.
Juleka and Rose had helped Marinette calm down a little as the girl broke into tears as soon as they were away from the rest of the Akuma class but she just kept panicking— and ran away. They didn’t know where she ended up until he texted them and asked.
Then Luka asked for Alya Cesiare’s phone number and made an unsettling discovery.
Marinette and the blogger were no longer best friends.
And, horrifyingly, she had been accused of being a bully, a liar, and a manipulator. Lila painted his melody in the way that everyone should view her instead.
Finally he created a group chat with a few allies he could trust.
He contacted Adrien Agreste (because even if the boy had been painfully oblivious that Marinette had once been in love with him, he would do anything for his lady), Kagami Tsurigi and her girlfriend and spoiled brat, Chloe Bourgeois, the boyfriends Marc and Nate, and then the rest of his band.
He named it ‘The Marinette Protection Squad’ and, just like that, the war was on its way.
*-*-*
Lila Rossi was waiting in the back of the school by herself when Luka arrived. He found her hidden between one of the walls and a thick oak tree and he didn’t bother to hide himself as he crossed the grounds over to her.
She saw him, surprise lighting her features for a second before it shifted into a— what he would guess, if it wasn't on someone so repulsive— a seductive smile.
“Luka!” She squealed, sauntering up to him and stopping a few feet away. “How are you, sweetheart? It’s been forever since we saw each other, since your last year in Lycee, right?”
“I don’t care,” Luka took a step back, face emotionless as he looked down at her. His eyes gave away nothing as he shoved his hands into his pockets. “You’ve made a lot of people angry, Lila.”
“A-Angry?” She stammered, feigning innocence by putting her hands over her heart with too wide of eyes to be real. “Why would they be angry with me?”
“Because you’re a liar and you hurt the people they care about— you hurt the person I care about.”
“Oh,” Lila straightened her back. “You must be talking about my bully.”
“Your bully?” Luka scoffed, less than amused. “Sure, I’ll play along for a minute. Who is your bully.”
“She’s... s-she is Marinette,” The liar sniffles. “And she says such horrible things about me and they’re not true! She pushes me and, and she rips up my homework and she insults me. Whatever you heard isn’t true, I swear!”
“Are you done?” He sighed out, shrugging his shoulders to make them relax more. “You’re a lying bitch, I get it. I’m not here to let you try to sink your claws under my skin, not that it would work, I’m here to warn you.”
“Warn me about what?” Lila asks, voice going a bit nastier than she probably intended.
What a two-faced bitch.
“That you should watch your back,” He says simply, turning slightly to walk back to his house. “You pushed a lot of people into your enemy list by threatening Marinette and now you’re about to face the consequences. It’s only fair to give you a head’s up.”
“Marinette,” she shrieks, “is nothing but a liar and a horrible person—”
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, no matter what anyone says, is the kindest person you will ever meet,” Luka snarled, whirling on the sausage-haired girl so fast that she stumbled back, unprepared. “And I’m hers. You hurt the wrong person, you egocentric bitch, and you’re going to pay for it.”
Lila gaped for a second before she forced an innocent look on her face, mouth opening to say something but the musician just continued, eyes hard and narrowed and angry, mouth drawn into a tight line.
He was a generally calm person, he could handle a lot before ever blowing a fuse. Because he was also a Couffaine at heart. He thrived in chaos where others wither and when it came to those he loved, nothing would stop him from protecting them.
Especially when the one he loved and had to defend was the girl he fell in love with.
“She is thoughtful and compassionate and selfless and astounding in how she will push herself to the knife’s edge just to make sure her loved ones are okay. She is a cinnamon roll but the fiercest ally you could ever have. There is no stopping her, there is no convincing her to step down when she’s standing up for something that’s right— when she’s standing up for someone, unless that someone is herself.”
He took a step closer and, well, that must’ve been pretty intimidating because she scrambled to take one back, causing a humorless chuckle to leave his lips.
He was his mother’s son but he had enough of his father in him to leave others terrified.
“And you want to convince me that just because you have the Akuma class, Mlle. Bustier, and M. Damocles so far up your ass that people will hate her? Really? Let me tell you something, sweetheart," He gave a cruel smirk, voice mocking as he repeated what she called him earlier. “This isn’t you and all your puppets against Marinette, it’s now you against the entire school. You might pretend to rule this place but she is the one who everyone looks up to and loves. She’s their sunshine child and leader and she has connections everywhere. She knows people that could make your life a living hell and it is her kindness alone that has spared you in the past. And you should have cut your losses when you had the chance because I, however, am not as kind. You declared war, Mlle. Rossi, do not be surprised when your downfall comes knocking on your door.”
With that and smirking at the ugly glare on her face, Luka saunters away, whistling a happy tune despite how tightly his fists are clenched inside his pockets.
It’s a week later when they make the first move.
Ivan and Rose, because despite her size she puts up one hell of a fight, are Marinette’s bodyguards during school. They prevent her from getting hurt while Mylene, Marc, and Nate make sure to record anything and everything Lila does that’s incriminating towards her reputation.
Juleka is on sabotage duty during school to make sure any plans backfire onto the bitch while Adrien is the distraction. Both were excellent at their job. Almost scarily good.
Outside of school Kagami and Luka strategize and come up with plans to make sure anything Lila says can be used against her. They organize groups and make sure that Marinette and her family doesn’t get bothered by Lila or any of her followers.
One by one more people in the school help. Marinette’s friends from different classes going from the highest grade level to the first year students at Lycee all jump in when needed— when they overhear a lie and debunk it by pulling up proof or contacting the people involved directly (Marinette isn’t the only one with contacts).
One by one Lila is getting more isolated, one by one she’s losing her power.
And it’s so satisfying to see that Luka goes to sleep laughing.
It’s not even a full month before the Akuma class had fully left Lila’s side, the last to turn was Alya— the reporter so distraught over how she realized she had been treating her former best friend that she had a mental breakdown.
It was a month on the dot when Honeybee and Ryuko got video footage of Lila snatching one of Hawkmoth’s butterflies from the air with a wide grin and a “What can I do for you today, boss?” and it was a week later when her life got ruined.
(Marinette was so overjoyed that the constant terror— in her civilian— life was going away that she kissed Luka until their lungs ached and, just like that, Luka got revenge and a girlfriend in one sweep.
And that girlfriend was very, very grateful for it too. Most nights he went to bed with bruise-kissed lips and a beautiful girl in his arms. Marinette looked happier than she did in years and all the planning and frustration melted away when he saw her wake up with a smile.
He couldn’t protect her when she was fighting an Akuma but he’s proved more than enough times that he could protect her when she goes back to having two left feet.)
First she got expelled from her Lycee for false accusations, thief, bullying, and cheating.
Then her lies— ever last one of them— were exposed and her mother was informed about what her daughter was up to and even waved her daughter’s diplomatic immunity— being absolutely disgusted with her daughter’s behavior— when the court cases of people suing her for fraudulence, harassment, threats, attempted murder, and acts of terroism.
Last, but not least, Lila was banned from Paris and all the cases stacked up against her were moved to a different court within France so they wouldn’t even have to see her again.
Though they did see her screaming and shrieking and snarling towards Luka as he joyfully waved at her when the bitch was getting dragged to the back of a cop car, “You! You did this! You made this all happen! I’m going to get you back for this, Couffaine, I swear I’m going to get you!”
She seemed absolutely insane, drool going down her chin from how hard she had been yelling, eyes frantic and face flushed and she jerked like a wild animal trying to get out of her cuffs and the officer’s hands that held her back from attacking the young musician.
He was a Couffaine and this chaos made him delighted to witness.
After all, it’s not everyday you get to see the downfall of the bitch who made the love of your life miserable.
Luka just laughed and sent her a cocky wave, “I look forward to it, sweetheart.”
Well… you can’t say she wasn’t warned.

guess how much i love you - soft yandere! seokjin x reader
This is part of the MFEEU canon, written by the amazing and talented @worldwidemochiguy. I hope I can do it justice :)
“What’s wrong, little Yoona?” Jin crouched down to see Yoona. She was sulking in the corner, having pushed away all of her pseudo-siblings until one of them finally resorted to asking Jin for help. Jin always had a way to make Yoona smile, yet even now as he pinched her cheek and gave her buckets of attention he could barely get a sniffle out of her.
Finally she gave some kind of reaction to him. As he continued to try to coax her into smiling, she finally pointed at something as the cause of her woes. Jin followed where her finger was pointing to the sofa, where Hanuel and Jihae were cuddled together with their Nintendo switches engaged in visiting each other’s towns in animal crossing.
“Why does Hanuel-eonni treat Jihae differently to me?” She whimpered. Her godfather smiled, turning her gently to face him.
“That’s because they’re in love. One day, you’re going to find someone you love like that.”
“Really?” Yoona was looking at Jin as if he was some kind of prophet, enlightening her on the path to true happiness.
“Yes. You know that when I met aunty (Y/N) it was love at first sight?”
“Really?”
“Of course, Yoona. Of course, it wasn’t easy, but love never is.” Seeing how his discussion with Yoona had pacified her qualms slightly, he had an idea to make her happy.
“How about I tell you the story of how I met aunty (Y/N)? Should we find your Shooky and have a storytime?” He offered.
“I’m not a kid anymore!” Yoona had pouted, but eagerly climbed onto his lap with her round plushie in tow ready for his highly anticipated storytimes.

“N-no, stop!” Jin raised his head at the sound of the melodic voice. His focus switched from the seven takeaway coffee cups he was trying to balance to the source of the glorious sound. And it was love at first sight.
She was near perfect. Her skin glowed, her eyes were filled with an otherworldly mirth and her sweater hugged her body in just the right way. The only part of her that was marred was her arm, to which some unattractive boy clung. Not a hair on his body held any appeal, yet the girl seemed infatuated, giggling at every word he said as they waited for their order.
“(Y/N)? A cappuccino with a double espresso shot?” So that was her name? Jin watched as she took her coffee with a sleep-deprived grin. And he knew he had to have her.
He whipped out his phone and dialed Taehyung’s number quickly, still glancing at the couple as they waited for the vermin’s drink.
“I need your help.” He said quickly. “Fuck, she’s leaving.”
Taehyung quickly caught on.
“Follow her. See if she’s going home. Do you have her name?” Taehyung’s voice was background noise as Jin followed (Y/N) out of the shop. Snow was starting to drift down, sticking to his hair and dampening his clothes but in that moment his appearance was the least of his worries.
As he told Taehyung her name, her appearance, and the university he presumed she attended due to her sweatshirt being emblazoned with the name of a nearby establishment.
“I found her. We’ll have all her details in a few hours. Come back to the offices and we’ll sort this all out, alright?”
It was only when he hung up his phone he realised that half of the various hot drinks he’d volunteered to bring back for everyone - planning to secretly use the outing as a opportunity to spike their beloved drinks with salt - had spilt onto the ground in his haste. But he couldn’t care less about his colleagues when fate had granted him a much greater design.
◦◦,`°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°`,◦◦
“We understand you applied for the assistant role last week?”
(Y/N) was hidden in the back of the university library, trying desperately to keep her voice down whilst attempting to quell the situation.
“As I said, you’ve got the wrong person. If you’ll excuse me…”
“You are (L/N) (Y/N), correct? We have all your details on record.”
She didn’t respond.
“Well, if you want the position then come to our offices by 11AM tomorrow in business casual.”
The phone call ended, leaving (Y/N) with all sorts of unnerved feelings.
Those feelings intensified as she stood outside the offices the next day in a simple blouse and trousers. Whilst the strange circumstances surrounding the offer were nothing to be ignored, she’d looked up the company name to find they were a reputable business, and their staff pay was nothing to sniff at. As a student barely able to afford a coffee in the morning, could she really afford to look a gift horse in the mouth?
◦◦,`°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°`,◦◦
The job was truly a blessing upon her life. Reasonable hours that perfectly coincided with her university lectures, decent pay and fellow employees who seemed to respect her.
She didn’t know why, of course. How could she know of the stranger pulling the strings behind the scene to get her into his arms?
“Sorry, could you drop this off with Kim Seokjin? He’s on the top floor. You can borrow my keycard to get there.” One of her colleagues asked, pressing a manila folder into her hand along with the keycard needed.
“Sure.”
Her heart was pounding as she scanned the keycard to enter the new level of offices. Never before had she been around such high up executives, who could have her fired in a second if they so pleased.
(Y/N) approached the first man she saw.
“Excuse me, do you know where Mr Kim is?” She asked timidly.
“You’re speaking to him, darling.” He responded, turning to face her. (Y/N) resisted the urge to blush when she made eye contact with him, as he excluded an aura of attractiveness and wealth she could never compete with.
“Oh, right. This is for you, sir.” She handed over the folder, trying not to die from the embarrassment.
“Wait a second.” She felt a presence next to her. Standing by her shoulder was another man. To put it simply, he was gorgeous. From his clear golden skin to his sharp features, it was as if an ancient statue had been breathed into life.
“That was meant for Kim Seokjin, right? That’s me.”
As if the situation could get any worse.
“Kim is a common surname, darling.” The former man commented as he passed the folder to the real Seokjin.
Noting the look of anguish on her face, Seokjin took one of her hands into his own.
“You’re new here, right? Don’t worry, it’s an easy mistake to make.” He offered her a warm smile.
“Thank you. I should go…” (Y/N) gently tried to pry her hand out of his hoping to end the whole interaction as soon as possible.
“Here, my card.” Seokjin pressed a rectangular business card into her hands, emblazoned with his name and number in stunning cursive. “Call me, and I’ll take you out for dinner sometime. As an apology.”
(Y/N) nodded, and he finally released her.
The business card lay buried in her purse for days afterwards. She couldn’t bear to face him again to be reminded of her embarrassment. But her interia was only serving to anger Jin.
“It’s been three weeks, Jin-hyung.” Taehyung said cooly. “Maybe it’s time to try again.”
His office had become a second home for Jin, who would spend around an hour each day ranting and raving to his boss, who just took it all on board with a knowing grin every time.
“How?” Jin muttered. “How do I get her to talk to me?”
“If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Taehyung responded, tempted to return to his mountain of work but also not wanting to leave Jin to wallow in doubt.
Jin just kept pacing.
“You could give her a promotion? Or maybe you could turn up at her university and sit on a lecture or two. That way you’d have an excuse to see her when you like.” Taehyung pressed. “You’ve still got some holiday hours this year to spare.”
Jin didn’t reply, but his decision was already made.
◦◦,`°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°`,◦◦
(Y/N) was ready to go back to sleep. No number of espresso shots could cure her banging headache, as her hangover weighed down her body as if she was carrying a ten pound barbell on her back.
She didn’t noticed how someone new had slipped into the seat next to her in the lecture theatre. All that occupied her mind at 9am was the desire for sleep. The double life of being a student and office worker was wearing on her hard, and she was contemplating on handing in her notice. The only thing that kept her from so was the tantalising paychecks and the haunting beauty of Seokjin, the memory of whom which had remained in some unused part of her brain.
The professor had a droning voice. The monotone syllables were practically a lullaby, and surely resting her head for a few minutes wouldn’t hurt? Not when she was at the back of the theatre and was practically unnoticeable.
Jin smiled as he observed (Y/N) slowly drifted into a deep sleep. The poor lamb had overworked herself. If only she knew of how he wanted to make sure she would never lift a finger again. He’d bided his time, months of casual stalking building up the the moment he’d finally decided to sit next to her, and how fortune had smiled upon his to give him the chance to admire her without being ‘creepy’.
Her deep sleep remained uninterrupted as people started to leave the lecture theatre, and a daring plan started to form in Jin’s mind. It was dangerous to just take her in the middle of the crowd, but it wasn’t like anyone else was particularly attentive at 10am and besides, anyone who asked questions could be paid off without a worry.
Gently he scooped (Y/N) up under his arm. She didn’t stir, as he gently guided her to the exit amidst the groups of other lethargic students. Navigating the crowd with a sleeping girl attached to him wasn’t easy, but Jin managed to make it out of the building and into his car without her waking up. It warmed his heart to see her head loll against the soft leather of his car interior as he indicated for the driver to start the engine.
Halfway to their destination, (Y/N)’s eyes starting to peel open.
“Mmmm... where am I?” The confused words stumbled out of her mouth as (Y/N) rubbed at her eyes.
“We’re going home.” Jin responded simply.
“Home? Wait... why are you here? Aren’t you... you’re one of the bosses from work?” The gears in (Y/N)’s brain we’re starting to turn.
“Well... yes. We can call this a promotion, I guess?”
The warmth of his smile, the smooth feeling of the leather car interior against her back and the steady beat of her heart all worked to convince (Y/N) that she was alright. It wasn’t conventional, but the adoration in Jin’s eyes was like a dream.
◦◦,`°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°`,◦◦
Unfortunately, a serious event plagued their ‘honeymoon’ period.
On Tuesday morning, as Jin gently woke her up with a cup of coffee, he noticed something was wrong. Her face was hot to the touch, and she could barely open her eyes.
Evidently, the cold weather and her busy schedule had taken a toll on her health. For the day she was stuck in bed, Jin dabbing at her forehead with a wet cloth and feeding her spoonfuls of broth.
“(Y/N)? How do you feel, my love?” Jin posited as she was nestled up half paying attention to the TV he’d brought into their room.
Through her drowsy drawl, he could barely make out what she was trying to say.
“Why are you… so nice? No one has ever loved me, not like you do. It’s not normal, to have your boss slash kidnapper treat you better than your exes. I don’t know why I’m not fighting you like any sensible human should.”
Seeing tears start to well up, Jin wiped at her eyes, wanting to shush her but simultaneously wanting her to continue praising him.
“I’ve never had a boyfriend who cares for me like you do… this isn’t right. I must be dreaming.”
Jin gave her a soft smile, his heart drumming loudly in his chest.
“This is reality. This is love. And I love you all the way to the moon and back.”
Before he could go on to tell her of what lengths he would go to show her his love, she’d fallen asleep.
He wanted nothing more than to stay by her side for the rest of the day, but the vibration of his phone in his pocket reminded him that he still had a job to do. He left the bedroom before answering it, closing the door with as soft of a click as possible.
“How’s it going, lover boy?”
“Shut it, Jimin.”
◦◦,`°.✽✦✽.◦.✽✦✽.°`,◦◦
“You see, love triumphs all. When you love someone, you should stop at nothing to make them love you back.” Jin concluded. Yoona had been hooked onto his every word, Jihae and Hanuel long gone both from the room and from her mind.
“Yoona? Yoona, we have to go!” At the call of her father the young girl clambered out of her godfather’s hold.
“Do you feel better now?” Jin asked. She nodded happily.
“Will you tell me more stories next time?”
“Yoona!” Yoongi finally found her next to her godfather.
“Go find Mommy, she’s got your jacket.” Yoona nodded happily, rushing off leaving only the two colleagues.
“You’ve gone soft, hyung.” Yoongi commented.
“Show a bit more respect for your elders.” Jin snarked back, but he couldn’t hide his happy glow.
“Sure thing. Pass on my regards to your wife.” Yoongi said before turning on his heel to find his own family.
Now that he was all alone, Jin pulled out his phone to send a quick message.
‘Be home soon, love.’
(Y/N) responded about ten seconds with a gif of two dogs hugging, to which Jin chuckled.
‘I love you. All the way to the moon and back.’

Baby Boom (Bakugou x Reader)
Tip Jar ☕- Not expected but always appreciated💞
I felt as though since this story had such a specific narrative (especially delving into the harsh world of modeling and the effects of discrimination) that it would reach out to a very specific niche of reader.
I was actually astonished by loud support this fic has obtained so for, so thank you so much! I cannot stress enough how much that means to me.

Month 1, Month 3
--Month 2--
No.
You looked at the stick of plastic in your hand with wide eyes as your mouth stuttered into a slack jaw—your breaths hardly making their way in and out of your lungs evenly.
You squeezed your eyes shut so hard that you saw white spots underneath your lids before you snapped them back open again, internally praying that you would wake up form whatever nightmare you were having.
However, you couldn’t blink away the big, fat smiley face that stared back up at you from the piece of purple and white plastic that sealed your fate.
No. No. No!
The sudden urge to puke came back with a vengeance and you threw yourself to the toilet, slamming your knees to the ground in the process. As your stomach lurched up into your chest, you couldn’t tell whether the tears forming in your eyes were from the harshness of the motion or something else entirely.
“Gah!” you loudly choked out as you pulled away from the mess in the toilet.
Once the nausea became slightly less debilitating you leaned back against your bathtub, throwing your head up as you groaned to the ceiling, “No, no, no, nooo…” you softly sobbed. You tried your best to keep from bawling so you didn’t find yourself with your head back in the bowl, but you couldn’t help the stream of hot tears that spilled from your eyes as you stared at the vent in the ceiling.
How could this happen? How could you be… pr...
A sudden stirring in your gut made you swallow hard as you tried to keep your stomach out of your throat.
Don’t be an idiot, Y/N. You took sex education in high school. You put the condom on the banana and were scolded with constant threats of STDs and the fires of Hell like everybody else. So yeah. You know how it happened.
You sighed as you thought back to all the guys you had slept with recently-- which was luckily not too many within the past few months, and only one since your last period.
Fuck, you didn’t even remember what the damn fathe-- guy looked like.
Well, excluding his rippling muscles.
You threw your head into your hands as the uncanny image of a body builder newborn infiltrated your mind. Well, that didn’t fucking help at all. Grabbing your hair tightly as you stared at the tile between your legs, you cursed yourself, “You dumbass! How could you be so goddamn stupid!? Stupid, stupid, stupid!” you repeatedly knocked against your skull.
You reached into the recesses of your memory for any information you might have about the guy. Where was his apartment again...? On the other side of town somewhere right… Near Club 52? God, you didn’t even fucking know! and what did it matter anyway, huh? What were you gonna do? Storm up to his place, pregnancy tests a-blazin’, and tell the complete stranger that you were carrying his kid?!
With a weak and tired moan, you lifted yourself off of your bathroom floor and went to the sink to rinse your bile infested mouth out and wash the salty tears off of your cheeks.
But not before you got a good look at yourself in the mirror.
Swollen eyes.
Red nose.
Drying, teary snot pooling on the rim of your upper lip.
“You look like shit,” you harshly reprimanded yourself before turning the sink on and sticking your face into the cool water. Your hands blindly reached around your counter until you finally grabbed a nearby hand towel to bring to your face. As you patted your cheeks dry, your eyes wandered to the counter where three other positive pregnancy tests that you had taken earlier that morning resided.
The trio all sported a similar smug smile as they looked up to you as if to say ‘we told you so.’
The little shits.
“Shut up.” You quickly grabbed all four tests and with a hint of bitterness chucked them into a nearby trash bin before making your way to your bedroom across the hall.
Plopping down onto your screeching mattress, you took your phone out:
Boss Lady
[2:50 pm]
Hey, brat. I hope you’re doing better.
Don’t forget that we have that runway fitting next week. And the test shots. And the international scouting event.
Think. Thin.
No carbs. No red meats.
NO ALCOHOL!!!
Fucking no alcohol for nine whole months. You attempted to scoff at this, but what came out could have probably been mistaken for the last sounds of a dying animal.
Kimi:
[3:31 pm]
Hope you made it home safe last night!
As you read this text, a piece of you wished that maybe you hadn't made it home safe last night... Your brain briefly wandered into the dark territories of ‘what if’s’ as you imagined falling in front of the train at the subway, walking past a drug deal gone wrong, hell-- drowning on the water you took with your Pepto Bismol. You quickly brushed these thoughts away as you continued looking through your phone,
Boss Lady
[4:45 pm]
Oh, also Deku just asked for a meeting with you personally.
You’re going of course. Glad you got his attention. Good girl.
Tomorrow. 5:00pm. El Vino’s downtown. (EAT LIGHTLY!)
Inches! Inches! Inches!
You slammed your phone down onto your mattress as you loudly sighed.
Inches. Your entire livelihood depended on your damn inches and now there was no way you could maintain the “golden ratio.” The thought made your blood churn.
Modeling… was all that you had. You didn’t have any other fucking talents—no quirk to depend on-- so when would your growing stomach steal your life away?
When do people even start ‘showing’?
You haven’t come across many pregnant women, but all of the ones you have seen either looked like normal people or like freaking beach balls. For some reason your brain couldn’t conjure an intermediate.
Did they just blow up out of nowhere? If so, then when? How long could you pull a ruse off before your growing organ snitched on you? 5 months? 6 months? Next fucking week?
You realized then that you knew next to jack squat about pregnancy.
Or damn kids for that matter.
Okay so... abortion? For some reason, even just the thought of that word made an icky taste surge in your mouth—or maybe it was the leftover vomit, who knows?
To be honest, you had never really thought much on abortion before—it was one of the many topics filed into your brain under ‘that does not and will not pertain to me, so why the fuck should I care?’ Filtered out and forgotten, your feelings on abortion had yet to be developed.
Until now.
After a few beats, you opened your phone back up and began to dial Kimi, fearing that you might soon explode with the brunt of knowledge that weighed heavily upon your shoulders.
You paused.
Had you ever actually talked to her about anything that wasn’t exclusively work related? In the past two years of knowing her, have you ever actually learned anything about her, and she about you? Very suddenly, you were slapped in the face by a crude fact: Kimi was just a work-friend.
That was fucking fine and dandy up until now. You pretty much either worked, or drank, or showed up to work drunk. But now…
Shit.
Who the hell else could you call? You barely had any friends, and you hadn’t talked to your family in what felt like ages. Who was there for situations like this? If half of your life was working, and half of your life was drinking, and your work friends were a no go… what about your drinking friends? Your mind briefly fled to the stashes of your best buddies-- vodka and tequila-- that you kept in your kitchen.
But not even they could save you now.
Fuck you really were alone.
That night, you found yourself constantly flipping your pillow to find a new dry spot to assault with fresh tears. You hadn’t cried so much since you were a kid. Wait-- come to think of it, you couldn’t even remember the last time you had cried at all.
So, was it hormones? Pregnancy hormones?
The surreal thought made your tears fly down your face even more furiously.
The next evening there was practically no trace or evidence of your mental breakdown from the night before as you strolled up to El Vino’s. It was honestly kind of frightening how quickly you had managed to pull yourself together before this little meeting—but mostly, it was empowering.
Okay, Y/N. You fucking got this. Hormones or not, you were still a baddie to your very core.
Deku was easy enough to spot in the little Mediterranean themed restaurant—with the green-ass hair and all. You strolled up to the table with the warmest smile that you could muster, “Mr. Deku,” you quickly approached his table and gave a slight bow.
“H-Hey!” You seemed to startle him with your sudden appearance. He jumped a bit in his seat and awkwardly shifted as you made your way to your own chair. His face was a bit red as you maintained your eyes on his shying expression.
“Look, before you say anything. I just want to say sorry,” his shocked eyes suddenly snapped back up to yours as you continued, “I had no idea that the event was yours and I probably ruined the rest of the night for you. If you want me off the brand deal, then I completely understand, just... don’t blame Ainu’s agency.”
His mouth fumbled over itself for a moment, causing you to quirk an unsure eyebrow before he could finally speak up, “No t-that’s not what I am here for at all, Miss L/N.”
“Call me Y/N. please,” your smirk was a little less sure than usual and you prayed that he couldn’t detect how off he had thrown you. This was going much different than you had expected it to. For one, he wasn’t trying to ‘put you in your place for disrespecting him’ or bargain sex ‘as an apology’ like most power hungry men in his position would.
“Okay, M-miss Y/N,” the blush that adorned his cheeks confused you even further and you felt the space between your eyebrows involuntarily tighten. That was another thing… He didn’t seem like a typical man in a position of power. He was… soft... you didn’t know how else to explain it other than unusual for a man of his size and stature.
“I actually wanted to apologize to you,” he spoke up once more and you were completely lost by then. You could only blink as he continued to speak, “You really got me thinking about things the other night-- you were totally right. The brand of my sneakers did lose its true meaning. I really meant to have it be a symbol for kids growing up without a quirk to enjoy—to give them hope, but it turned into more of an endorsement to myself. The whole thing. It was wrong. That’s why I have decided to give 100% of my personal Red Sneakers profits to establishing my Quirkless Youth Initiative,”
You looked around for any hidden cameras—any hidden agenda behind his motives before looking back to him with a stiff expression. You had to physically keep your face from scrunching, “And just how are you going to make a living out of a mindset like that?” you dared to call his bluff.
“It’s just gonna have to work. It’s what my mentor would have done—given 100%. Beyond actually.”
Holy shit. This man was being serious. ‘100% and beyond’ serious, to be exact. Your face scrunched up once more, “Why do you care so much anyway?” you cut back on your tone as you noticed his eyes widen a bit at your accusatory voice, “Not to be rude, but… what’s a strong hero like you doing caring about us quirkless?”
He seemed to be lost in thought for a moment or two. Contemplating on whether or not he was going to lie, you noticed, “I… I… didn’t have a quirk until much later in life. I was 14. Growing up, I always wanted to be a hero, and I just wish that I had someone back then believe in me. I want to be the one that tells kid’s—with a smile-- that they can do it. That they have at least one person who believes in them.”
His name-- Deku-- it meant worthless. The puzzle pieces were finally coming together and things began to make sense. It was a name that either himself or others used to describe him when he was growing up probably, and the man had taken it and spun it around to make it his own. Even you had to admit--
“That’s pretty damn impressive,” you couldn’t help the curl that tugged into the corners of your lips as Deku bashfully looked away from you,
“It’s nothing, really!” he tried to deflect. You gave a small laugh before smoothly bringing up the glass of wine in front of you to your lips. As soon as the liquid rushed in your mouth, your eyes flew wide open with realization,
Shit! What the fuck were you doing?
You immediately spit the alcohol back into your cup and snapped your eyes back to Deku who had, thankfully, been too caught up in his own embarrassment to be paying attention to you. You gave a sigh of relief and sat the wine glass as far away from you as inconspicuously possible.
“So,” you leaned into the table a bit to get his eyes back on you, “Tell me about this Quirkless Youth Initiative,” you smiled.
From that point on, you and Deku actually found talking to each other relatively easy—okay, extremely easy. In fact, you stayed past the point of dinner and ended up talking at your table hours after the bill had been paid.
You talked about everything and nothing altogether and didn’t know just when to end the conversation. You lowered your borders for some reason. Well-- you knew the reason. It was because you had been dying to talk to someone since you found out that you were the ‘p-word.’
He ended up walking you home. Past that, for the next two weeks you guys pretty much saw each other every other day or two and talked fairly regularly. Things became habitual.
In fact.
As you stood in the beaming light of the wardrobe, getting your makeup done, you found yourself stealing little glances here and there to your phone to text with your new friend, Deku. Every buzz of your phone left you with a giddy sense of excitement.
One of the models sharing the gigantic mirror with you quickly took notice of your demeanor, “What are you smiling at, Y/N?”
“She’s texting someone,” another spoke up as your friend/babysitter, Kimi strolled up next to you,
“What?! Y/N L/N texting someone back? Have we entered the Twilight Zone??” she joked. You only responded with poking your tongue out at her before your phone buzzed again,
Deku:
[1:00 pm]
Good Luck on your runway thing today!
You:
More like run away thing🏃♀️💨
Deku:
I could help? Bring comfort snacks?
You:
Most of us haven’t eaten a full meal in days BB
You would literally be stampeded by women
Wait that sounded too good🤔
You will literally be stampeded by hungry women***
Deku:
You haven’t been eating?!
Since when?!
You:
That’s not what I said.
Just pre-show prep to keep the waists snatched and the legends skinny💁♀️
Deku:
Sorry I don’t know how your job really works.
I’ll come over again tonight after your show and bring dinner!
If that’s okay. Sorry didn’t mean to sound pushy.
“Didn’t you hear? Her and Deku really hit it off on their date,” Your attention was instantly snapped away from your phone screen.
You gave an ugly snort, “It wasn’t a date.” And you certainly weren’t lying. The friendly atmosphere between you and Izuku felt comfortable as best—nothing intimate about it.
You wouldn't have it any other way. It felt as though he was placed in your life to perfectly fill the holes in your boat just before you started sinking.
“Girl your phone is blowing up!” a co-worker exclaimed, loudly.
Kimi laughed as she pinched your cheeks, “Look at that smile on her face”
All of the commotion gathered the attention of Boss Lady, who was currently storming up to you with the ‘phone box’ (or phone cemetery as some of you liked to call it) in her hand. She liked to have this on her especially in big events like runways or show casings because some of the girls—you were guilty as charged—spent quite a bit of time on their phones behind the scenes, “Phone. Bin. Now.”
Usually, you would put up some type of argument or give a quick-witted remark, but this time around you only rushed to send one final text in before you threw your cellphone into the crate.
You:
[1:33pm]
I should get off at like 11 see you then broccoli boy🥦🤪
Kimi looked terrified as though she was the one who had just incurred Ainu’s wrath, “Still smiling, huh...?”
You hadn’t even notice that you had been.
Talking to Deku really did make you happy when you needed it. Just like he spun ‘deku’ around and made it make sense, he had spun your life around and did the same. He made you feel like life was normal—whatever the hell that was. You’d never really been classified as normal anyway, but you had some impression that this resembled what it must feel like.
For a fleeting moment you think that maybe you should just sleep with Deku and pass this pregnancy off as his since you had yet to tell him-- or anyone-- about it.
But the better half of you instantly slaps this thought out through your ears.
Hello? Welcome to psycho bitch incorporated. Seriously. What the fuck was wrong with you?
Damn, you had been separated from your phone (and Deku) for exactly 23 seconds and you were already outta your cot-damn mind. You get one friend and suddenly you don’t know how to act.
You needed to somehow find “blond muscle man” and let him know what was up. Fuck, how were you supposed to do that when you didn’t even know his name?
The runway that night went pretty much how every single other runway went, except this time-- you opted not to attend any of the after parties. Instead, you went home and had Deku over, who delivered on his promise with sushi.
You could smell the sushi as soon as he walked through the door and your mouth instantly watered. He really was god sent.
The two of you settled quickly in your apartment, deciding to risk it all and eat on your living room couch to watch TV; however, you quickly noticed that the TV wasn’t the only thing that Izuku was watching. As soon as you turned to raise an eyebrow on him he feebly attempted to avert his gaze, but you caught him anyways, “What? You better stop sizing me up unless you wanna fight, Deku,” you sang as you popped another sushi roll into your mouth.
“W-what sizing you up?!”
You cackled at the sudden redness of his face, “I’m just joking. We both know I’d probably kick your ass!”
“You think so?” he actually sounded a bit nervous in his tone, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Oh, I know so,” you shrugged with a growing smirk, “Anyway. What are you staring so hard at me for?”
The air became very still around the two of you as he looked down to think. This was something that became pretty expectant of him these past few week-- a funny little habit.
“It’s just… we’ve been hanging out a lot the past few weeks and I never really noticed it—your… dieting,” he seemed to fall into that last word a bit as if it wasn’t exactly the word that he had wanted to use.
You knew that he meant to say ‘starving yourself’ but was too reserved for that level of bluntness. That was okay with you. You weren't particularly ready to open that can of worms, “Damn, and here I was thinkin’ I was looking pretty damn good,” you joked as the both of you began cleaning up your food mess.
“No. That’s not what I meant I—”
“Joking! I’m just joking with you, Big D,” you found yourself using this nickname for him whenever you wanted to see his face fall into it’s deepest shades of red. It worked every single time,
“I have just been at this for a long time—modeling for Ainu’s agency. Since I was 15 actually,” you shook your head a little at the surge of nostalgia that wanted to bubble up your back. You clutched a nearby pillow and hugged it to your chest, “She scouted me at a mall food court. She changed my entire life—for the better of course. She is practically my mom... I owe her a lot,” you found yourself giving into the nostalgia a bit-- a small, fond smile tugging at your lips. You looked up after a few beats of silence filled the air and was met with Deku’s admiring stare, “What? You nerd!” you exclaimed with a giggle, chucking the pillow at him.
“It’s nothing. I just like hearing about you. I feel like I have been doing a lot of talking about me since we have been hanging out.”
Yeah, he was a Cancer zodiac for sure. You pretty much knew his entire life’s story after only the first week of knowing him, “Are you kidding me?! Your life is straight out of a comic book, BB! I love hearing about it!” You began talking to him from out of the kitchen as you put your leftovers in the fridge,
“You went up against the League of Villains, the Vanguard Action Front and The Paranormal Liberation Front as a freshman?? You powered up from a quirkless crybaby! (Hey!) to an amazing, uprising, super considerate, overpowered crybaby on his way to number one! Your U.A. friends all seem like comic book characters, too. I love them already from what you tell me,” you closed the fridge, revealing his shocked expression.
“Really?” You nodded, igniting a spark in his eyes, “Well, I am actually having a little get together at my place for my friends if you wanna stop by.”
“Yeah sure. As long as my favorite character, Kaminari, is there,” Izuku seemed shocked and slightly offended by your choice in favorite, so you clarified, “He sounded really cool and all with his ‘chatty zappy’ thing going on,” you suddenly rolled your eyes as a bad taste emerged in your mouth, “Kacchan sounds like a little bitch baby though, no offense.”
“Y/N!”
“What?! Kacchan can ‘Kach’ these ‘hans’! Oh come on. Not even a pity laugh? A little one?” You apparently thought you were a lot funnier than Izuku did.
“I think the two of you might actually get along. You’re very similar now that I think about it,” he trailed off on his last part, seemingly talking to himself as he grabbed his chin.
You almost felt offended by his comparison, “Fuck that. Oppisites attract, Similars repel. Besides. Why would I wanna be friends with a little bitch baby that bullies and pisses on quirkless people?”
“Well, when you meet him next week you might like him…”
You clicked your tongue, “So now I am obligated to come, huh?” you smirked.
“N-no well that’s not what I meant but I would appreciate if you—”
You were only half paying attention to his freak out as the abrupt craving for orange juice infiltrated your mind and placed itself on the forefront of your thoughts, “Deku. I am joking!” you absentmindedly reminded him as you scoured your pantries for a wine glass. You had taken to drinking out of these instead of regular cups to at least maintain a semblance of your old self.
Izuku’s eyes widened at the sight of your collection of wines and alcohols in one of your cupboards. You smirked at him-- throwing him look that said ‘you ain’t seen nothin yet’ as you opened your freezer to reveal the insane hoard of alcohol you had stored.
His jaw practically dropped to the floor at the sight, “Holy woah, you have an entire liquor store in here!”
“Saving for a rainy day,” you almost immediately realized the error of your words as Izuku motions to one of the windows near you. The two of you sat in a beat of silence as the pitter-patter of rainfall splattered against the glass pane.
“It’s raining today,” he grinned excitedly.
“No... I cant,” the way that the words fell out sounded about as convincing as a disguise with groucho glasses. You could really go for a drink right about now.
He looked to you a bit sadly, if not disappointed, “Y/N if this is about your diet… I am just saying, I don’t think one day will hurt too much.”
“No, I really shouldn't.” Understatement of the century.
Izuku grabbed two glasses out of your cupboard with a soft smile gracing his features, “We’ll pour you just a little bit in case you change your mind—”
Maybe one glass wouldn't hurt... No. NO! God, you knew he meant well, but he is really fucking making this hard for you!! “I cant, I’m pregnant!!” you suddenly yelled. He immediately froze,
“Wha...?”
“I’m pregnant...”
“Oh... Uhhh congratulations,” the most unconvincing thing to have ever come out of his mouth probably, “Who…”
“I don’t know,” the look of utter horror on his face had you instantly backtracking your answer, “Well—let me rephrase that. I do know who it is, but I don’t know his name. It was a umm.. ‘Wam. Bam. Thank you ma’am’ type deal.” Your face began burning as hot blood rushed into your cheeks. You literally couldn't have phrased that worse if you tried. What the hell was wrong with you?
“You don’t look pregnant...” the horror on his face now registered into your mind as pure shock.
“I sure as hell would hope not. I am like a month-ish along—I think.”
“You haven’t been to the doctor?”
“Uhh no...” He was right, you didn't even look pregnant. There was no way in hell that you needed to go to the doctor yet. Right?
“W-wait! Y/N the night we met! You were drinking alcohol!”
“So? I am probably only like a few weeks pregnant and I drank like two glasses. I am sure it didn’t do anything…?”
“Are you really sure? How can you know!? You have to go see a doctor!” he looked terrified. It was as if he suddenly was the embodiment every stressed emotion that you had been shoving away from you these past few weeks and the sight scared you.
“You’re freaking me out, Deku.”
He instantly froze, “S-sorry,” he looked down to his shoes. Maybe you just might let him pour those drinks after all. He looked like he could use both of them right about now...
The next week dragged on for what felt like eons, as Izuku seemed to cautiously dance around the topic of your “preexisting condition.” It was quite obvious that every time the topic came up, a cloud of discomfort would come and sit on his shoulders; however, the man still made it a point to urge the fact that you needed to set up a doctor’s appointment.
Eventually, you caved in and scheduled for one at a local clinic, but they couldn't get you in for a few weeks anyway-- the joint was at maximum capacity, you guessed? Apparently, there were more pregnant bitches waddling around than you thought.
Still, Deku urged you to read up and research some things prior to your appointment so that you could ask the doctor any questions that might pop up. It seemed like he was almost way too into this-- taking notes in a composition notepad that he dubbed “Baby Notes Vol 1″ and even mentioning coming along with you to your clinic visit.
It made things extremely real.
Your little safe space with Deku had effectively been conquered and subjugated by the little parasite that took residence in your body. You shook your shoulders with a sigh as you neared Deku’s door for the party.
*KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK*
When the door opened you couldn't help the way that your eyebrows flew up in surprise at the sight of a woman opening the door. Uhh... did you go to the wrong house?
The brown haired girl in front of you looked just as surprised as you-- if not even more so.
Okay, you definitely went to the wrong house.
The sudden sound of Izuku’s voice coming deep from withing the apartment led you to breath easy. You deflated a little bit as you relaxed. You wouldn't have to make a mad dash in a lagged game of ‘ding dong ditch’ after all, “Y/N L/N. Nice to meet you.”
A series of emotions flashed across her expression at your greeting: shocked, nervous, then... disappointed? “Y/N! I’ve heard... so so much about you!” the smile that stretched across her lips seemed almost painful, “I’m Ochako Uraraka! I... love your hair!” she threw out the last part like a rabbit would throw steak to wolves.
“Thank’s...” you felt fucking awkward and she still hasn’t let you into the apartment, “I’ll make sure to thank the stylist and the bottle of dye she used.”
“That’s not your real hair color? It looks so healthy though!” she seemed heartbroken as she used a pitying tone and you could gauge that the pity was not for yourself.
“Nah. My agency pretty much determines what hairstyles I wear...” You made eye contact with Deku inside of the house as he made his way to the door... Thank god! you were saved from that terribly awkward interaction.
“Agency? Hero agency?”
“Modeling, actually. I’m not that badass,” you smirked before walking into the party.
Her figure deflated as if to say, ‘of fucking course’, “Oh. That’s cool!” You didn’t see much of Uraraka after that
Meanwhile, Bakugou was just a tick away from being angry enough to kill. His roommates had all three convinced him to go to this get together over Deku’s house and they weren't even going to be there on time!
He had honestly never been to a party with these losers without at least Shitty Hair being with him, so he wasn’t exactly sure how it would pan out and that really bothered him. He wasn’t exactly social at these events, but at least the three stooges kept him somewhat entertained (he would never admit this aloud).
What could those other losers possible do to entertain him?
“Whyyyyyyy?” he heard crying as he neared Deku’s home. His face scrunched in on itself even further than usual as he approached the whining noise. He scoffed at the inebriated mess in front of him,
“What the hell are you doing, round face?”
Uraraka, who was leaning against the edge of Izuku’s front patio looked up, causing Bakugou to deeply grimace at the germy snot that trailed down her red face, “Deku’s new girlfriend sure is cool. He deserves someone like her, right? She’s perfect!” Bakugou couldn't help the way that his face shriveled into itself in disgust.
It wasn't too late. He could still turn around and go the fuck home and no one would even know he was here. Well, save for bubble cheeks here, but she probably wouldn't even remember to be honest.
But as soon as Bakugou turned back around to make his escape Uraraka spoke up again, “She’s a model. They met at the Red Sneakers Event apparently,” Of course this piqued the man’s interest. There were only a few models branding the event and he just so happened to be searching for one of them. Uraraka continued with her drooling of words as Bakugou brushed past her and made his way into the house-- not bothering to knock,
“You know I am the one who gave him that idea in the first place? It’s kinda like. I set him up with his future wife!” she drunkenly cried to no one in particular as Bakugou stormed away.
He passed Iida on his way in, “Go get round face and shut her drunk ass up-- she’s outside,” he didn't bother on stopping to further explain before walking back to the commotion of the party.
As soon as he entered the packed room, his eyes landed on you. It was like the Red Sneakers Event all over again. You were simply glowing-- hard to miss-- especially with the crowd of his old classmates hovering around you like some damn flies on shit-- especially Deku. He was way too close to you-- the rat bastard.
“Oooh! You’ve been to Milan! That’s so cool, girl! So you must get to sight-see like a lot!”
The way that your shoulders leaned and swayed as you talked sent flutters into Bakugou’s heart. Fucking gross. He watched you speak very intently-- searching for the magic you had used to bewitch him, “Actually I was working a lot when I was there, so I really only got to see the sets and runways,” you made fleeting eye contact with him from across the room, furrowing your eye brows a bit at his stare before breaking the gaze.
“Do you get to keep the outfits after the shoots?!”
“Pfft. Hell no! This loser still hasn’t sent me a pair of his red shoes. What happened to helping the quirkless, huh, broccoli boi?” The most primal urge of jealousy that Bakugou had ever felt sprinted through his body as you leaned over to playfully tap that shitty Deku in the arm. The feeling was so intense that he hadn’t even registered what you had said fully.
“You’re quirkless?” Racoon Eyes inquired, snapping Bakugou out of his feral trance. His face fell a bit as he dutifully awaited your answer.
“Yeah. It’s whatever,” you shrugged.
“The competition must be so difficult!” Momo spoke up as she placed and apologetic hand to her chest. The gesture made you tense up a bit, but you reminded yourself that she probably didn't mean it in a belittling way as she continued, “I’ve been to a few magazine shoots myself and it is always girls with flashy quirks who end up in front and center!”
“Well, I compete well, I guess,” you knew that hero hero modeling and your fashion modelling were two completely different worlds. Designers saw you guys mostly as clothing racks and mannequins for their clothes, so usually they wanted their models to be as mundane as possible-- not to distract from their fabric art. So basically the perfect job for someone like you, “it’s no big deal. I get by like everybody else.”
“You just live your life like normal!”
“Awhhhh. Y/N. You’re an inspiration!”
Suddenly you felt extremely tired. You couldn't find the energy within yourself to filter out and soften your next response, “Glad I could inspire you just by breathing I guess.” you gave the girls a slight smile as you shrugged, but the undertone of your comment had not gone unnoticed-- especially by Bakugou who found himself stifling a proud smirk.
You once again made eye contact with him in this moment-- this time not daring to backtrack your gaze until he did-- a warning sign to back he hell off with that staring shit.
As the night progressed you found yourself becoming more and more tired. The debilitating sense of sudden fatigue actually felt like it had taken over even your bones at this point as the aching structures weighed heavily inside of you skin. You decided after about an hour that you were gonna make an early trip back home.
“What, why!?” Deku scanned your face nervously-- he thought you had been having fun!
“Just really damn tired suddenly.”
“Oh...” he trailed off, but suddenly realized the hidden context of your words. Baby Notes vol 1 page 4 section 3: ‘prenatal fatigue’, “Ohhhhh okay! Right! Well Let me call you a taxi or something.”
“Nahh, I’ll walk,” you waved him off as you made your journey toward small crowds of his friends-- waving them goodbye. Deku followed you in your path around his house,
“W-what? You can’t be serious! You shouldn’t do that!”
You turned around and threw your hand on his shoulder, causing him to instantly freeze up, “I’ll be fine,” you smirked throwing your hand up to his cheek to gently pat his face. Of course, he was left a shivering, blushing mess. It was a low blow, but, hey, it gave you a good opportunity to escape.
You felt a wave of relief as soon as you made it a few steps outside of the apartment. You released a heavy sigh as you continued walking away.
Finally. You internally planned the rest of the night in your head: orange juice, Netflix and sleeeep. You could finally just let yourself relax and--
“HEY!” you jumped out of your skin a little at the sudden loud shout. You whipped around to see that blond spikey-haired dude from Deku’s house attempting to close in on you.
You rolled your eyes as he neared. Hardly throwing him a glance as he approached you to walk a little behind you, “God. You’re the weirdo that was staring at me all night,” you groaned, hoping he would catch your drift.
“We need to talk!”
One of you eyebrows instantly quirked up as your lips curled into a look of disgust. You whipped back around towards him, “Look, I am actually tired as hell, so excuse me for my bluntness, but FUCK OFF!” You only caught a glimpse of his flabbergasted expression before you spun back around to storm down the stairs entering the subway.
“You really don’t know me?” he sounded pissed.
That’s when it hit you.
“Oh! it’s you!” you snapped your fingers at the sudden realization,
“You’re Kacchan!” the look of disgust that hardened on his face intensified by ten fold when he heard you use that nickname. You continued regardless as you neared the train platform, “The asshole bully who likes to pick on quirkless kids. Yeah, well, I don’t give a damn how great you think you are, buddy. You can really fuck off now!” you spun once more to ditch him; however this time around your ankle twisted from underneath you, causing your body to fall down toward the ledge of the platform where underneath the tracks resided.
Bakugou cried out something like ‘you idiot!’ before grabbing you by the waist and yanking you into him before you could completely fall down the ledge. Everything happened so quickly that you hadn't even realized that you were holding your breath until you gasped heavily into his chest.
With a shocked expression you trailed up his neck to his face until you were met with his vermilion eyes, “Shit…” suddenly a wave of familiarity crashed into you. you breathed deeply, “I-It’s you...”

How Do You Feel
PART 5 (heads up, this part is pretty angsty compared to the other parts)
Julia never knew the pain of time before that week. The boys had left for Upottery Airfield at the end of the month, leaving her behind with a scattering of staff - mostly females - in Aldbourne. In one fell swoop, Julia had been separated from her boss, best friend, and their family of Easy Company men. She felt purposeless. Each minute of the day was spent either trying to gather any tidbit of information she could or trying to get the time to pass faster.
There was work to be done but there was no urgency to it as all of Aldbourne held their breath waiting for the paratroopers to make their first jump into Europe. Finally, on June 6th, the news of the invasion arrived. The news must have reached them after the men had already landed, Julia thought. All of Julia willed George to be among the paratroopers who made it to the ground. They were separated by roughly 376 miles but it might as well have been another universe. The things he would face were beyond her imagination, but the notion that he hadn’t even made it to the fight was even more unthinkable. Across the channel George’s training was kicking in. As a radioman, he carried more weight than the average rifleman. This responsibility had once been a joke; of course, George Luz was a radioman, he had the largest mouthpiece in the company. In training, it had been a piece of cake. George picked up the shorthand and coded language like it was nothing. But no one had prepared him for what it meant to be the vessel of all communication - or lack there off. No one had prepared him for how helpless it felt listening to officers with thinly veiled panic in their voices shouting for support. No one had prepared him for the desperate feeling of being the one on the radio hoping and praying that the person on the other end understood your request, and would show up for you. Only in the quiet moments at night when it was dark would George allow himself to think of Julia. He didn’t want to associate her face with a bloodied corpse he would inevitably pass. He couldn’t bear to imagine her laugh among the gunfire. In the states, in England, they had shared a paradise and now he was in hell; there was no reconciling the two worlds. The near month in France took everything out of George. It was one thing to be physically exhausted, but his soul was worn down. He was more than aware of how he was seen in the company. He couldn’t let his guard down for the Germans or for his comrades. If the clown stopped smiling how would anyone else know when to smile? Julia anxiously received the few letters George managed to write. By the time they reached her, they were worn from water and the exchange of hands but she was grateful to have them anyways. Each letter she received meant he was still alive. All around her, the staff and ladies of Aldbourne received letters, each one affirmed George’s survival. His death would have been mentioned by someone because everyone knew George Luz, Julia’s George. Leading up to D-Day, George and Julia’s antics had grown beyond subtle. Their intimacy had become an unspoken, accepted fact of life in Aldbourne. Julia’s romance with Chuck was an often forgotten memory. But no one knew what the true nature of their relationship was, including George and Julia. While the troops were in France, Julia’s colleagues awkwardly stumbled across polite inquiries regarding George’s wellbeing. Was he a friend or a romantic partner? Perhaps something more considering their intimate relations. Julia didn’t know, nor really cared how they defined it because in her mind she was simply waiting for her best friend. Her patience was rewarded at the end of the month when a bedraggled Easy Company made their way back to Aldbourne. George trundled along the rain-worn roads of the English countryside in a lorry, Frank Perconte to his left and Buck Compton to his right. He was cracking jokes; though the men were exhausted the adrenaline of relief coursed through them. They had survived D-Day plus some and were back in England to tell their tales. Men chattered excitedly about hot meals, pretty women, and where they would take their leave. It sounded like a coalition was forming in favor of London. That sounded pretty good to George. All he wanted was to get blindingly drunk and cause a lot of mischief with his best friends - excluding Julia. The places and things the soldiers had in mind for London were not appropriate for a lady, even George’s easy-going, tough-as-nails Julia. George spotted Julia immediately as his lorry rolled onto the base. She was dressed in civilian clothes, a bright yellow dress that had to be new. He had never seen her in it before and he would have remembered if he had because she shone like a ray of sunshine. George swung his body out of the truck, throwing his rucksack on his back. Julia stood at the center of a group of women, half in uniforms, half in civilian clothes. She searched the crowd of incoming soldiers for George. As soon as she spotted him she rushed towards him, flinging her body into his arms when they met. “You’re back,” Julia sighed a deep sigh of relief. George gripped her tightly, “thanks for waiting.” Julia stepped back from him with a wide smile, the beginning of tears formed in her eyes.
“Hey, hey,” George said lightly, “none of that. Don’t go soft on me now!” Julia laughed, a sound that caused George’s heart to soar. She wiped the tears away with a smile, “I’m just so glad you’re back! Now I’ll save some money on postage.” “Pretty sure you get the same military allowance I do,” George said, “by the way, I love the dress!” “Yeah?” Julia twirled on the spot, “your favorite color.” George tried to keep his smile cool. Yeah, she was his best friend, of course, she knew his favorite color. But something warmed his heart to think she took his preference into consideration when she purchased it. “Great for summer,” he said. The first days of his return were spent in bliss. George thanked all of his lucky stars each day for returning him to his paradise. Winters wasn’t about to let the men slip; he had training exercises and calisthenics planned for each day. But George found himself with more free time than before D-Day and he easily slipped back into his routine of visiting Julia both during the day and at night. The men were granted one week off and the majority of Easy Company decided to go to London. Winters warned them that they were still paratroopers, they needed to maintain the dignity of their uniforms. His words were of no consequence because a new energy had grown in each surviving man. There was a new wildness about them, a vivaciousness that could only be satisfied by debauchery. It was only in George’s nature to lead the charge, along with Bill Guarnere, John Martin, Floyd Talbert, Don Malarkey, Joe Toye, and the other gambling-fan, oversexed paratroopers. To say the least, the week in London was wild. Gambling and drinking ran rampant as relieved soldiers from across England filtered into the city. Money, alcohol, and women kept the men busy and got them into trouble. Headlines in the paper joked that the American’s had done more damage to the city than the blitz. One evening when George was particularly drunk he followed Bill and Joe into a particularly seedy bar near Piccadilly Circus. Bill introduced him and Joe to a few women he had met the previous night. George felt reckless with the alcohol coursing through his veins so when the thought of Julia crept into his mind he had no regard to how their relationship had evolved over the last few months. More importantly, he disregarded rule number five. George didn’t wear a condom that night, a realization he had when he woke up in a panic at 7 am the next day in a stranger's bed. George didn’t say anything about the week to Julia when he returned. He brushed off her questions with short answers about how it was fun and a great time with the guys. Rumors swirled around Aldbourne about how raucous of a time the men had had. The non-specific gossip only made Julia smile and shake her head. The boys deserved a fun time, she thought. It was perfectly understandable that they had wanted to blow off some steam. But the energy changed between her and George when he returned from London. The honeymoon period that had experienced upon his arrival was over and George suddenly felt like a foreigner to her. He was himself, but different. There was an edge to him that hadn’t been there before. It was faint, just a whisper in his eyes when he told a joke, but Julia could sense it. He was still quick to laugh but there was an occasional bitterness to it. As a couple, they grew more reckless. Not in their playful disregard for subtly but in their intimacy. They had been diligently safe before D-Day but since George’s return, there were more and more instances of not using protection. Whenever paranoia crept into George’s mind the reckless monster that had latched onto him since coming back reared its ugly head. Fuck it. He thought. He didn’t care. In turn, Julia found herself lacking the energy to remind him. In the moments they shared she was so desperate to connect with him that she ached for the closeness of his raw body. “George?” Julia whispered. There was no answer. Maybe he was asleep, she thought. They had only finished having sex a few moments ago but when Julia returned from cleaning up George was turned away from her. She gently placed a palm on his back. The smallest connection. On the other side of the bed, George was awake, starring into the darkness. He wanted nothing more than to roll over into her arms but he couldn’t bring himself to move. Any clear thought refused to form in his brain. He barely noticed the heavy wetness forming in his eyes as he searched the wall for the strength to return to his former self. In France, the nights had offered the greatest respite. But in Aldbourne, it was the days that George preferred. The days meant comfortable routine, people to laugh and joke with, and sunshine without shrapnel raining down. At night George couldn’t see anything except for scenes of destruction painted on the back of his eyelids. “How did you feel about your competition?” Floyd Talbert teased Julia one day at lunch. “What?” Julia asked innocently biting into an apple. George squirmed down on the bench beside her. “What’re we talkin’ about?” he asked.
“Apparently I’ve got some competition,” Julia smiled playfully at George but there was a hesitance in her eyes. George’s stomach clenched. It wasn’t as if he was forbidden to be with other women. For all intents and purposes, nothing had changed regarding their agreement and Julia understood that. George’s guilt came from the uncertainty of whether or not he had contracted anything from his lustful night in London. It was a thought he had had a few times since reuniting with Julia but his reckless monster always tamped down the guilt. “Is that so?” George deflected as he pushed the food around on his tray. “Don’t worry Jules,” Floyd reassured her, “you’ve got his heart. He had to pay for it!” “Actually, we covered it,” Joe Toye grumbled from down the table. “Ol' George couldn’t locate his wallet,” Bill chortled from beside Joe, “it’s alright, we told him he gets to cover us next time we go.” Julia chuckled along with the men’s laughs but George didn’t miss the flint-like look in her eyes. “Paid for it, George?” Julia didn’t wait long to ask. She cornered him soon as they exited the mess hall. “Look, it was just a bit of fun,” George said calmly. “George, sleeping with women in town is one thing but a prostitute,” Julia hissed. “I didn’t know they were prostitutes!” George held his hands up in defense. Julia narrowed her eyes at him, “I have a hard time believing that.” “It doesn’t matter anyway, it’s my business. That was our agreement.” Julia’s mouth tightened into a thin line, “did you at least use protection?”
“What kind of question is that?”
“I have to ask, I’m sorry. I know it’s your business but with how irresponsible we’ve been lately I want to make sure - with a prostitute… they’re at much higher risk for disease.” “That’s not only my fault we haven’t been using protection, you could also remind-,” “George, you’re not answering my question.” Julia had her arms crossed across her chest, a desperate look was growing in her eyes. “I don’t have anything. No lumps, no bumps, nothing,” George said. “So you didn’t use a condom?” Julia raised her eyebrows. “No. I-I don’t know!” George said quickly. Julia’s face filled with thunder, “how do you not remember?” “I was drunk.” “I’ve seen you drunk. Even when you’re drunk off your ass you're coherent enough to remember if you used a condom or not!” “Jules-,”
“Answer the question, George!” Julia was nearly shouting now. “No.” Julia wanted to cry, from anger or from the hurt she didn’t know. George hung his head in shame. “Okay,” Julia did her best to keep her voice level, “thank you for being honest. But this,” she gestured between them, “is done.” Julia walked down the road towards her office. “Julia!” George stumbled after her, “Julia, no, I didn’t do anything wrong!” “George you broke rule number five! No bringing anything back!” “I didn’t bring anything back! I told you I don’t have-,”
Julia whirled on him, “even if there are no lumps, bumps, or whatever who knows what you could be carrying! And that doesn’t even matter because we were together as soon as you got back from London before you would have known if your dick was all bumpy!” she gestured angrily at him. “You betrayed my trust, George! This makes me feel unsafe.”
A knot formed in George’s throat at her words. “Jules, I-,” “Just,” Julia sighed and held her hands up in exasperation, “leave me alone. Give me some space.” George watched helplessly as Julia walked back to headquarters. He wanted to be angry with her, she was over-reacting, he thought. Just wait until he told Perco about how irrational she was being, Frank would take his side. But really, George felt terrible. His rational brain realized how much he had messed up. By the grace of God, he had been returned to his paradise only to burn it down with his own stupidity.

Originally this chapter was going to be a whole lot longer, but to make my job a little bit easier, I cut it in half. So, that's why a short chapter, but the good news is that I am already working on the next one's editing so it should be out some time next (the upcoming) week! Mostly just fluff in this and the next chapter but I am hoping to dig a bit deeper into especially Leo's background story soon enough. Don't expect any major drama yet though, we wanna see our ship happy together before that, don't we? ;)
Thanks again to everyone who has supported me, and BIG thanks to my lovely friend Cris for supporting me in many ways with this (and the upcoming) chapter!! I struggled with it quite a bit (as I had to rewrite a whole scene etc) but your ideas and cheering for me really helped!
Enjoy and don’t forget to leave a comment! :)

...
It was the morning after Leo and Calypso’s arrival at Waystation, the Christmas Eve, and Leo woke up feeling weirdly light. Not because he particularly loved Christmas; he and everyone in the Waystation family considered themselves atheists so they didn’t care about the religious aspects of that holiday. Besides, Leo himself had some very bad memories from his previous Christmases before his time at Waystation. But since Georgina was still young, the family wanted to keep up with the traditions that children enjoyed; lots of food (especially chocolate), decorations and of course gifts.
This year the family had decided that the gifts would be self made. Leo felt excited when he imagined how Georgina would react to the present he had made for her. It was a photo album, full of pictures of Georgina doing various activities with her family, friends and Festus. To make the album even more personal, though, Leo had decorated the cover by painting some animals Georgie loved on it and adding some stickers as well. He had also added a funny caption below each photo, explaining what was happening in them in his own style. Festus would be getting his favorite dog treats and Jo and Emmie some spicy pastries Leo had learned to bake, along with a promise to fix whatever machine happened to break next in their household. When it came to Calypso’s present, Leo would still need to fine tune a bit before the next morning, but he was hoping she would like it… He had spent a lot of time making it whenever Calypso was at the university or work.
Imagining everyone’s reactions to their gifts wasn’t the only thing that made Leo feel unusually happy that morning. After the previous evening’s dinner he had checked his email and the platform where the professors shared the grades and to his relief he had passed every exam he had participated in (excluding the earlier failure at the lab class). The calculus and physics exams had gone well, but the biology for engineers had been a bit harder for him and the mandatory English class he had passed just barely. Either way, he was finished with the semester and the test results made him feel more optimistic about the future of his studies. Even though he still had moments of strong self doubt, he tried to imagine Calypso’s face when he’d tell her that he had managed to pass the lab classes. That never ceased to make him feel better.
The additional free time also lifted Leo’s spirits. When he thought about it, he hadn’t really had all too many moments just for himself that fall, being constantly busy with either university, fixing other people’s machines, or trying to deny his growing feelings towards his flatmate. In a way the distraction had been welcome because it had given Leo less time to dwell on the things he tried very hard to not think about. But now that he had a few days to stop and do whatever he wanted, he realized he had needed it. It felt good to be somewhere where he could let his inner child out again for a moment, with the people he cared about.
Somehow, he was even feeling more hopeful about the state of Calypso and his relationship. The fact that Calypso had agreed to join him at Waystation was already a good sign, and Leo was hoping that seeing how great people everyone at Waystation was would help her gain more trust in him and the other people around her. He wasn’t lying when he said he was not afraid of her father or anything else that might bother her. He had already seen too much to be scared of something like that.
That topic however started getting too much to the thing that Leo Absolutely Did Not want to think about, so he was relieved when he heard some sounds from the hallway. It sounded like little Georgina had also woken up and was now causing chaos everywhere she went because she was so excited about all things Christmas.
“Georgie, could you be a bit quieter? It’s still way too early to be that loud. I swear, if we were at our flat, we could hear you all the way there,” Leo groaned as he peeked into the hallway to chastise his little sister. “If you don’t care about me, I bet Calypso wouldn’t appreciate it eith… Hey!”
Leo couldn’t finish his sentence because he was interrupted by a pillow in his face.
“What was that for?” Leo asked once the pillow had fallen on the floor. The little girl just laughed and picked the pillow up again.
“Brother, are you saying that you had already forgotten that pillow fight is our annual Christmas Eve tradition?”
Leo’s eyes widened when he realized that she was indeed right. He had been so engrossed in his own thoughts that he had momentarily forgotten that this was what they used to do every Christmas. Instead of admitting that he had forgotten it aloud, though, he quickly bounced back, getting his own own pillow from his bed.
“Nah, I was only bluffing you!” he exclaimed before throwing the pillow at her.
“Big mistake!” Georgie yelled. “Because now I have two pillows!”
She started chasing Leo around the hallway and soon the entire floor was in chaos when Festus joined the group, also wanting to participate in ‘catch the pillow’ and ending up ripping one of them, spreading the fillings everywhere in the room. Finally, the noise woke up Calypso as well. She came out of her room and frowned at the sight.
“What in Zeus’ name is happening here?”
“Who is Zeus?” Georgina wanted to know.
“Just our annual mandatory pillow fight.” Leo ignored Georgina’s question, grinning from under the one pillow that still remained undamaged. Georgina had to let Leo free, though, because Festus looked like he wanted to show that pillow as well who the boss was.
Calypso’s frown melted into a soft smile as the information sunk in.
“Your annual mandatory pillow fight? But who does all the cleaning afterwards?”
She approached Leo, taking a feather from his shoulder. Even though she barely touched him, he found himself flinching at the touch. Not because it wasn’t welcome - quite the opposite. The gentle swipe on the shoulder made him want to throw all the rules out of the window and do something he’d regret. But suddenly Leo was reminded that he was still wearing only his underwear and he was having a very difficult time trying to stay nonchalant when he replied:
“Sunshine, we won’t worry about that until the fight is over.” He wagged his finger.
“Oh, I see.” Leo swore he had never seen Calypso prettier than when a mischievous smile spread on her face. “Does that mean the loser has to clean the mess?”
“What makes you think… Hey, watch it, Georgie!” Leo yelped quickly. The girl had lowered the pillow to Festus’ face level and the dog had seen his opportunity when he had noticed that Georgina was too distracted by the conversation to be keeping the pillow out of his range. He snatched the pillow into his teeth and started running away before the others had a chance to stop him from ripping it.
“Festus, be a good boy,” Leo demanded but the dog wasn’t listening. “That’s my favorite pillow; I’d rather you tear one of your own teddy bears apart.”
Leo went to get one of Festus’ toys from the toy box and tried to trade with the dog, but still no success. Apparently the sight of Leo crouching in front of Festus holding the toy while the dog was chewing the pillow, ready to run whenever Leo got too close was too funny for Calypso who along with Georgina started laughing at him.
“Really, Sunshine? How about you come here if you have a better strategy,” he muttered, slightly embarrassed.
“Okay,” Calypso accepted the challenge. She did otherwise the same thing as Leo but used a slightly gentler approach.
“Festus, I know that pillow is nice to chew on, especially because the smell reminds you of your favorite human, but we’d be very happy if you did not spread the feathers everywhere. You like this penguin, don’t you?” She showed him a toy she had picked. “Wouldn’t you like to try this instead?”
Leo’s mouth nearly dropped when the dog gave up on his ‘toy’ without even growling at Calypso, smugly taking the plushie into his mouth instead.
“I see how it is,” he said. “Just listening to the ladies, are you? Well, can’t blame you for that, amigo. These two are the bosses here.” He petted Festus briefly before turning around, realizing too late that it was too quiet in the room.
“What in the…”
The girls had disappeared from his view, but as he started looking for them from the possible hiding places, the pillow flew in his face again.
“So funny, you guys!” he growled.
“Sorry, Leo! I just couldn’t resist!” Calypso appeared from behind the sofa, still chuckling at his expression. “Georgina made me.”
“Thinking you can win the Unbeatable Pillow Master? I don’t think so,” Leo declared and started chasing the girls. Soon the trio (and Festus) were a laughing and panting pile on the floor after an intense battle, Leo’s favorite pillow torn now, but he couldn’t have minded less. As they laid there, Calypso’s shoulder was resting against his and she was not putting any effort into moving it away.
“Still unbeatable?” She sounded pretty amused despite being out of breath.
“It was two against one!” Leo exclaimed. “Besides, you have to clean too because you’re a rookie. It’s a new rule.”
“A rule you just came up with.”
“Maybe, but you don’t wanna see what Jo and Emmie would say if they saw this mess. They may be nice people but if there’s something they hate… it’s pillow fillings all over the floor and furniture.”
“Alright… I believe you.”
Georgina took Festus outside while Leo and Calypso started cleaning the hallway, working together effortlessly as they had many times before at their flat. They kept casting shy glances at each other from time to time, and eventually Leo asked:
“Did you have fun? I mean, with the pillow fight?”
“Hated it.” Calypso stuck his tongue out at him, but then added pretty quickly: “The truth is, I don’t think I’ve done anything like this before… Not even when my sister was around. So it’s nice. Different.”
“That’s… that’s good then.” Leo nodded, then continued in more of his usual style: “Valdez & Co, always ready to give people new experiences!”
“Uhhuh, please don’t make that your new slogan,” Calypso snorted. “I did have fun, though.”
The light feeling from earlier that morning returned to Leo. “And you still have plenty of Waystation secrets to unlock so I predict it’s gonna be even more fun!”

“It’s a Date”
@random-ravings this is for you... I know you asked for a full blown date night but for some reason I am unable to do it to the fullest. I also don’t know enough about romantic get away but I do hope this suffices
“Do you trust me?”
She’s not sure what level of insanity she must have been on the other night to think that her slip up at JJ’s wedding would be forgotten by her anal rentenive boss. Low and behold, here he sits in her drive-way trying to coerce her into his black jeep with the promise of a get away looming ahead of them. Of course, the details of said adventure are hidden behind the dark shades covering his soft eyes but his warm smile is pulling her in. Despite the cold knife of trust issues reminding her that he’s only being nice because he feels bad for her.
Not because of the way he’d held her as they danced. Or the spark that her touches sends down his spine, leaving him shuddering and reaching for more. As if she’s a cigarette to place between his teeth and draw a healthy pull off of. She’s the kindest person he knows and no matter how much distance he puts between them he craves her like nicotine in his lungs.
He always comes back wanting more.
Behind her own sunglasses, she sizes up his jeep. It’s not really what she was expecting but when is Aaron Hotchner ever predictable? Picking up the suitcase at her ankles, she shakes her head finally coming to answer the question he’d proposed upon placing the car in park. An inquiry on trust. She trusts him with her life-- with her heart-- but she doesn’t risk the reaction the truth has. “About as far as I can throw you,” she grumbles with an eye-roll and a smirk she can’t contain.
The soft chuckle that leaves his mouth has her head jerking, frowning at the sound she hasn’t heard enough of to consider he’d made it. Her reaction only makes the smile on his face grow and she stands for a loaded second just basking in the warmth that placing that smile on his face gives her. She has to shake her head to pull her thoughts back to the problem at hand-- Hotch and whatever trick he has up his sleeve.
“So,” she tosses her bag in the back beside one that’s identical to her own. Out of habit, she bites her tongue instead of observing that ‘great minds think alike’. If Reid were here he’d conclude ‘fools seldom differ’. Hotch might not come to that same conclusion but it’s too late to tell. “Where are we going?”
Hotch takes a moment to respond. He puts the car into reverse, pulling out of her driveway in a swift but solid motion. It’s easy to forget that Hotch really is a good driver-- even if he spends a lot of government hours bashing the cars he’s driving into UNSUBs. He has a lack of regard when it comes to his own life.
She wonders why.
“We’re on vacation time,” comes his answer, a strange crooked, care-free nature to the smile he flashes her way. There’s something youthful about it. She imagines he used to be like this all time. Quick with a joke and lighthearted before the job weighed him down.
She nods, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth to worry at it. He hasn’t told her much about the excursions besides to dress for the weather and to bring a nice outfit for a fancy dinner. The amount of things that could mean worries her more than she’d like to admit.
He catches sight of the anxious frown she settles on his dash and decides that the gig is up. Besides, how much fun can his plans be if she’s not equally as excited? He clears his throat, “there’s this B&B that JJ always gushes about--”
Emily’s eyes light up, “The Monty House?”
He chuckles at her clear excitement. Her voice had gone up, softening considerably like the way Jack might shout-out when offered a bowl of ice cream before bed. If he’d known it would be this easy to make her happy he might have done this silly little trip a long time ago.
Actually, that is a lie. His nerves have been wracked for the better part of the last week since he made the reservation. There’s no way he could have done this without the prompting of both her ‘It’s a date’ and the dance they shared at JJ’s wedding.
Admittedly, he can be a bit of a coward but his heart is pretty damaged. He’s not sure he can handle Emily stomping on it.
Judging from the smile lighting up her face though, heart stomping isn’t on the agenda. In fact, she could kiss him.
“Yeah.” His shoulders relax as the tension leaves his body in the nervous chuckle he lets out. His hands get some blood back as his grip on the wheel loosens, his poor knuckles returning to a fleshy tone instead of bone white. “The-The Monty House,” it feels good to have that off his chest. “The whole weekend.” Of course, he won’t tell her everything he has planned. No point in spoiling the whole weekend.
He finds himself smiling. How does she do that to him? Twist his stomach in knots with her silence and then have him smiling so hard his face hurts the next second.
“Does that mean we’re stopping for road snacks?”
There are few instances when they drive to crime scenes but on occasion a crime only warrants sending two agents. It’s no secret that on those particular occasions, he prefers going with Emily. She’s comfortable in their joined silence unlike Reid who anxiously fills it. There’s no pressure to talk about his personal life like with Dave who’s endless lines of question never seem to stop.
With Emily there is just… ease.
And snacks. Lots of snacks.
“Check the glove compartment,” he says with a smile. He knew she’d need refreshments even for a simple two and a half-hour road trip. He knows a lot about her actually.
She raises an eyebrow and, sure enough, she finds his glove compartment filled with snacks. There’s a red gatorade along with the SweetTart Ropes, Sunchips, and Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich. It’s the kind of thing that looks like a thoughtless addition. Red gatorade is a straightforward go to drink but she knows it’s more than that. It’s the only gatorade she likes and he knows that.
Just like he knows her favorite chips are Sunchips and that she thinks PB&Js are a timeless classic.
“Aaron Hotchner,” she smiles at the little collection of snacks in her lap. “You’re the sweetest man I have ever met.”
Hotch feels his face get impossible hot, despite the cool air coming in through the window beside his head. He can’t look at her because he knows she’ll see the blush and the last thing he needs is giving her that power. Not when he’s got a whole weekend to spend with her and countless opportunities to bring up him blushing like a schoolgirl over a compliment. He clears his throat, “uhm, thank you.”
Fifteen minutes in and she’s already getting the better of him… good God how are the next two hours going to pan out?
“Good God!”
Her sudden outburst causes him to jump in his seat. The car doesn’t jerk or accelerate but he’s good and jostled from the comfort he’d settled in. He looks over at her, eyebrows going up as he realizes she’s looking at him. “What?”
Oh.
She looks smacked with worry, the kind that he knows isn’t going to go away easily. “When was the last time you slept?”
There’s always the option to play dumb but from his experiance attempting to pull one over on Dave-- it’s very unbecoming. He can always tell the truth but that’s about as good of an idea as leveling his loaded service weapon to his temple. He could meet her half-way. Exclude all bits involving Beth-- that she’d broken up with him after JJ’s wedding. Something she’d been thinking about doing anyways but after seeing him with Emily there were things she, evidently, couldn’t avoid.
But he’s still got to explain how that was nearly a week ago.
He clears his throat, pulling his sunglasses back into place-- hiding the evidence. “Uhm,” he’s really bad at buying himself time and each second that passes means another moment she’s going to weigh whatever lie he comes up with. So he settles for a truth, just not all of it. “You’re not the only one who’s had a bad week.”
There’s a soft moment of contemplative silence shared between them as Emily considers exactly what that means. It sounds straightforward enough but Hotch is admitting to something being wrong and that’s not as simple as one plus one is two.
“Do you…” she licks her lips, unsure of exactly what it is she should do. She knows what he would say to her but the giving and taking of their relationship hasn’t been set up. “Do you want to talk about it?”
He grimaces at that offer but he realizes that’s unfair of him. He’s asked her to admit to him when she needs help. To her credit, she has on multiple occasions. So, it’s wrong to ask that of her and then put up his walls. This is no easier for her than it is for him.
“You wanna make another deal?” she asks. She reaches over and pokes him in the side with one of her candies, smiling when she bites into it. He raises an eyebrow at her, shaking his head. No matter how much time he spends with her… she never ceases to confuse and exasperate him. Even now, chewing on candy and trying to pry into his mind. “If I have to tell you when I’m having a bad day, you have to tell me.”
He grunts, raising his eyebrows but turning his attention to the road. He hates that idea. He can’t and won’t lie about that but is that not the same ultimatum he gave her? The instances are fundamentally different-- the trauma she was reeling from was fresh in all of their minds and he could be a sympathetic ear to that. Especially, if hearing about the worst parts of her day granted her a longer stay with them.
With him.
Now, it’s a little different. The things he needs to tell her about are a lot more personal. It’s not about the connection of Foyet and Doyle-- the sheer thought of which sends a cold chill down his back. Now if she wanted to talk about that he would still be adamant but, at least, it would be helpful.
“Aaron?”
He snaps away from his thoughts, having worked up a slight cold sweat from the directions of his thoughts. He shouldn’t be thinking about Foyet. That won’t help anyone. With a shake of his head he stutters a confirmation to her idea. “Uh-Yeah, s-sure.”
His eyes are on the road but he’s about a million miles away. He just keeps thinking about Foyet.
Emily’s not sure what to do.
Hotch is her friend. In many aspects, her best friend and as jouveline as those words are often made to sound she means it in the most sincere way. She trusts him with her life and beyond that, in ways that she’s not yet encountered. She means that when she comes to a crossroads in her life he is always there.
Just like now, as she grapples with the decision to leave for London or stay. He’s her right-hand man and… now, she’s uncertain as to how she should repay that.
Of how she can.
It feels like an endless pit separating them. She starts there.
He’s driving with his left hand, leaving the right to rest limply in his lap while the other’s knuckles turn white with the tension his whole body is failing to hide. Silently, she reaches over and nudges his forearm with her hand. He scowls down at her hand, confused but he caves and moves his it.
He huffs a little when she takes his hand. Surprised more than anything else. The only hand he’s held in years is Jack’s and, even now, Jack’s getting too big for that.
“I do mean it,” she says, giving his fingers a tentative squeeze. “You’ve heard all my stories. You know all my drama…” She smiles, just thinking about it. “I think I can handle what little drama Aaron Hotchner encounters in his day to day life.”
He chuckles at that. It’s a good point. His life isn’t chocked full of twists and turns. Jack has some interesting moments-- mostly his bully turned best friend Paul. She already knows about that though. That leaves nothing really. What’s he so afraid of?
“Alright,” he relents, returning her gentle squeeze. He clears his throat, “but can we talk about it later? After--”
She cuts him off, “we can talk about it whenever you feel comfortable.”
Something in his chest settles and he relaxes. He doesn’t notice until several minutes later but he doesn’t pull his hand away from hers.
---------------
They were supposed to get two rooms but that’s too much to ask for and they end up in a room with two twin size mattresses an arms length away. Neither are that worried with the proximity. As far as sleeping arrangements go, this is still better than about 90% of the hotels they’ve stayed in over the years.
The problem is what might haunt them at night.
The last thing Emily wants is to wake Hotch up in the middle of the night thrashing like a heathen possessed but the freaking devil because her subconscious loves to taunt her with Ian Doyle.
Talk about making things awkward between them.
It doesn’t seem to bother Hotch though. The first thing he does upon putting their bags at the ends of their beds is collapse onto a bed. He doesn’t move for a solid five minutes, just lays on his stomach, face down. She’s starting to worry about him-- hoping he’s just managed to fall asleep and not dead-- when he groans and sits back up.
He runs a hand through his bedhead and Emily has to look away-- damn, that shouldn’t be as hot as it is.
“You up for anything on this itinerary?”
She can’t turn around because she's very aware of the fact that he’s standing right behind her. He offers her the booklet and she takes it, unable to breathe until he takes a step back. She can hear the sound his five o’clock shadow makes as he scratches at his chin and-- good God give her a freaking break her heart can’t take this.
“Uhm,” she keeps her eyes trained on the paper but for the life of her she can’t focus on the words. She just keeps thinking about the fact that Aaron Hotchner is about a foot away looking drowsy and soft. He looks like he’s dead on his feet. “Why don’t we just get dinner and go to bed early?”
As much as he wants to just agree with her and call it a night-- he’s adamant that she actually wants that. “Are you sure?”
She nods, “yeah. You’re tired--”
He stands, shaking his head. “No,” he tells her. “We’re here so that you can relax. I can handle whatever it is that you want to do.” He takes the booklet back, flipping through it and looking down the list. He scowls in concentration and she finds it endearing but also hardheadily aggravating.
“Hotch, I mean it.”
He finds one and points at it, asking, “how about a massage?”
She rolls her eyes. “Aaron,” she says, folding the booklet up despite his light attempts to tell her no. “I just want to eat some dinner and go to bed.”
He deflates a little… he wants her to have a fun time and he feels like she’s giving that up because of him.
“I mean it.” She starts to pull at her hair, raking her fingers through her thick hair to work it into a ponytail. “Besides,” she says, “JJ said they have a killer grilled cheese and I’ve been dying to find out if that’s true.”
That he believes.
So they have grilled cheese in the room, passing small talk back and forth. Emily finds Jurassic Park on the TV and at nine thirty when he turns his bedside light off, he reassures she’s fine to leave her own. Even if it makes her feel pretty silly that she’s managed to get herself worked up over a PG-13 movie from the 90s.
She is fighting her own fitful sleep when she hears the soft sound he makes from the other bed. Everytime she closes her eyes Ian Doyle is right there. Blood seeps between his teeth and, this time, Hotch is there too. Ian draws a knife close to Hotch’s throat, it’s bared for easy access by the tight grip Ian has on Hotch’s hair.
She wakes just as the blade draws blood.
Judging from pained grunt Hotch lets out, her demons aren’t the only ones coming out tonight.
“Hotch?” She’s not entirely sure what she should do. Hotch’s hearing has been on the mend for the better part of five years. It’s not his strongest sense-- they’d all found better ways to his attention than calling out his name but right now waving a hand at him or throwing a piece of crumpled paper isn’t going to get the job done.
“Hotch!”
She stumbles back as he sits bolt upright, his breathing ragged. For a moment, she sits stunned on her bed. Watching as he looks down at the comforter across his legs, unable to place where he is. She can hear his breathing become more distressed, a wheezing groan tearing from his mouth as he raises his head to look around.
“Hotch?”
His left hand comes up to his chest, clenching his t-shirt tight in his fist. He’s steadily working himself up.
She stands up, calling his name softly again and frowning when he doesn't look at her. “Aaron,” she hesitates just a step from the bed. He looks up just as she stops, tears streaming down his face, and she can’t bear the sight. “Oh, sweetie.” She climbs into his bed and pulls him into a hug. He shakes in her arms and her heart breaks for him.
He always stops and checks up on her but… what has he been hiding from them to let things get this bad?
“So, we’ve both been having some bad days.” She buries her face into his shoulder, breathing in the steady and warm scent of Hotch. She’s unable to pick apart the distinct parts of the way he smells. There’s aftershave and deodorant but also laundry detergent and… he smells the way home does. Distinct and safe. She’d know him if she were blind and deaf and scared out of her mind.
Aaron.
He leans into her touch but the way she holds him isn’t making it easier to breathe. Her fingers spread out on his neck, working against the way his hair grows to scratch as his scalp. He feels himself melting into her and in return, she does the same.
They’re just a puddle of humans. Welded together. Neither is able to escape the hold of either. She’s practically sitting in his lap and, in return, he’s wrapped a leg around her back.
“Why weren’t you sleeping?” he asks, voice muffled by her shirt. He’s settled back down, able to pull in a steady stream of oxygen. It doesn't get caught in his throat. What it’s doing is letting the exhaustion creep back into his bones. He’s too weary to rest.
Emily pauses just long enough to realize that there’s no way he’s going to believe her if she says anything besides the truth. At the same time… “Who said I wasn’t,” she whispers, wincing at just how much her voice betrays her. She moves and presses her face into his shoulder, squeezing her eyes tight with the false hope he’ll let it go.
She can feel the way he tenses, regardless of the fact that he doesn’t believe her.
There’s still a small inkling in the back of his mind that says-- you woke her up.
“Nightmares,” she finally answers. His fingers spread across her back, thumb trailing spine. “Doyle--” she hates the way he tenses at the mention of the other man’s name. She’d done everything to protect them and all she’d done was hurt them worse. She certainly made things worse for him. Forced him to lie to the only family he has to protect her-- a woman who lied about her career and entered his team to blackmail him.
But he eases after a moment. He rubs his hand up her back, offering her the same comfort she’d extended.
She sinks into his chest. “Doyle was going to kill you,” she whispers. Her tears run hot and he can feel through his shirt.
He presses a kiss to her hairline. He holds her to him, shaking his head. “It’s alright now,” he promises, throat thick. He’s painfully reminded of his own dreams. Waking up and having to scrub his hands in the sink to reassure himself that his subconscious has just been very unkind. That her blood is not caked under his nails.
That she’s home.
Sleeping.
Alive.
He wonders how many cadets the two of them could scare away. Tell a room full of kids-- that’s what she was when she was scouted out of college-- that taking that oath means more than they’re currently able to give. It’s the nine stab wounds on his chest. It’s talking serial killers down from suicide even when as they stand to realize the world would be a better place if they through with it. It’s demons that you can never really get away from.
“Can we just…” she wants to ask him to just hold her. To spend the night like this. She loses her nerve. Swallowing thickly around the tightness in her throat, she leans back from his shoulder. There’s only an inch of space between their faces. Her hands reach for him on it’s own accord, her thumb tracing his jawline.
“Emily,” he whispers, his eyes moving back and forth between hers. Unable to figure out what he should do.
She looks down at his lips, her cheeks burning.
“I-I don’t want you to do anything you might regret,” he manages, eyes giving away the vulnerability behind the statement.
She kisses him. It’s a hungry, desperate kiss that he leans into. “Something like that?” she asks a moment later.
He nods, unable to find words.
“Can we just lay here,” she asks. “Will you just hold me?”
He nods, can’t trust his voice.
She trusts him though. She falls asleep in his arms.
He lays there for the longest time. Her head is tucked under his chin and, even in her sleep, she’s holding his hand.
The ceiling turns.
His anxiety is creeping up but each time he gets to the point of hyperventilation she moves a little in her sleep.
She doesn't know what she’s getting herself into.
She’s not going to love him.
Not for long.
“Aaron?” She blinks and pulls the blanket up to their chins. “Go to sleep.”

He regreted his decision of having a child with you? Definitely not, you were his angel and his son was his little defiant. But does he get irritaded at the young boy constantly?... Maybe...
Chisaki Kaito; you insisted that he put his name on his child instead of just his given name and how could he saw no? Damn your puppy dog eyes; a energetic yet sassy little young boy of 4 years old, who was exactly what you could say a mixture of an little angel and a tiny demon.
Of course, he came from both of you.
Kaito didn't care much about getting dirty when playing on the playground or even hunting some bugs; this little brat picked once an venomous spider and almost gave you an heartattack when he showed it to you; exactly the opposite of his father, but damn, this kid was exactly like him on his attitude and his looks, excluding from the color of his eyes.
Chrono often joked around that not only the names were similiar but his kid was exactly a carbon copy of Overhaul himself. Chisaki would often scoff as he son would imitate his daddy's gesture.
Chisaki often was proud of his young boy, wherever he took a problem seriously; which an average kid couldn't take it very well; or even when he demanded that the brat took a bath; at least five of them if he got carried away playing around; and he would follow without any complains and even enjoying his little bath time.
Although there's just this tiny little problem about his Kaito that always stroked a nerve on him.
Kaito Chisaki was a mommy's little boy and had absolutely no shame on demonstrating.
Little baby could come up with any response to any one chatting around with him; including his own father causing a few arguments; but with you? If the brat saw you entering the same room, he would always just cling to your leg and begging you quietly for you to pick him up.
If we define by percentage his love for his parents would come something like:
57% for mommy and 43% for daddy.
Chisaki didn't mind at all, he already knew that some kids always had an favorite parent, but that didn't mean that his son hated him or something. He knew Kaito looked up at him but he preferred you, simple as that.
But what Kai couldn't take was how the brat always seemed to wait at the right moment where HE and YOU are ALONE for ONCE for just barge in and demand any form of your affection. Taking all the pleasure from Kai and leaving the fearless yakusa boss pouting.
Yes, pouting you didn't read anything wrong.
It was like a game between him and his son, who could get more of your attention and love.
"Angel I brought this for you." Chisaki showed a huge amount of your favorite flowers.
"Aw Kai my love you didn't have to-"
"MOMMY!" Cried Kaito as soon as he enter the room clinging on your legging. "I-I fell from the tree and made a boo boo!" He pouted looking up at you as he pointed at the tiny bruise on his knee.
"Oh geez sweety, come here." You picked him up and sweetly wiped his tears from his cute face. "Let's take care of this and sterilize. Maybe one piece of that cake you like after my precious?" Kaito nooded smiling a bit before wrapping his arms around your neck.
"Sorry hon." You whispered to him before getting out of the room. Kaito lifted his face from the crook of your neck and just smirked at his father before nuzzling in your cheek.
Oh that brat now was war.
It came the night and after reading a bed story for your son; Kaito demanded both of you in his room; he finally got some time where you were all his.
"Your flowers." He said giving to you with an smile "You didn't get them because of that brat's bruised knee..."
"Hey!" You mockingly scolded "Don't call your son a brat! He is so good for us, a little angel!."
"Yeah. A fallen one." He started to laugh when he saw your reaction to his comment.
He slowly wrapped his arms around you and gave you a gentle kiss on your forehead, he then inteded to search for your lips before the door suddenly slammed making both of you jolt in surprise and Chisaki to pull you in a protectice embrace.
"Mommy can I sleep with you?" Said the little bed haired boy holding his tiny blanket.
"Why? What happened sweety?" You instantly got woried while Chisaki started to glare at the tiny boy.
"Bad dream..." he pouted, making exactly the same puppy dog eyes that you use to convince him of something.
"We just putted you to sleep K-"
"I sleep fast daddy." Responded in a serious tone the little boy narrowing his still puppy dog eyes at his father.
Karma is a bitch Isn't Kai?
"Come here my brave boy." You extended your arms lovingly, getting out of your husband's embrace "Of course you can sleep with mommy and daddy, right Kai?" He really had to contain his sigh of irritation.
"Why not?" He groaned slightly "Care to tell what happened in this dream then Kaito?"
He saw his son for a mere second in thought before nesting his way between both of his parents and wrapping his arms on your waist.
He looked over his shoulder at his father and merely answered, cleary faking some tears.
"It was scary..." like a damn actor, that little voice of his was enough for you to start tutting over the baby boy and almost forgeting Chisaki's existence.
"Don't worry my sweety little soldier, don't need to tell us okay? You're safe with me and daddy..."
"Yeah. Safe." This brat was starting to get on his nerves.
After you went to sleep little Kaito just turned to be in front of his and gave him a devious yet cutely smile at his father.
"You're doing this on purpose, aren't you little rascal?" Chisaki whispered while pinching slightly his son's nose, making the child giggle.
"Maaaaybe?" Singed his son quietly sticking out his tongue at him.
Chisaki smirked and crossed his arms over his chest, glaring dowm at the boy.
"I demand time with your mother too. I know she's marvelous but damn you brat I got her first."
Kaito smirked at his father; pretty much similiar with his own smirk; saying "Then earn it daddy!"
... Should he feel proud at his son or pure irritation now?
When his little demon went to sleep, a sudden light appeared for him as he quietly picked his phone and started to text.
On the following day he woke up and found you currently cooking with one hand while your other arm held Kaito as you two exchanged a very lively yet hushed conversation, maybe avoiding that you could woke him from his deep sleep.
He grinned; his angel was all for himself today, Kaito liking it or not.
"Morning you two." He greated already sitting down on the table waiting for the soon breakfast.
"Morning my knight!" "Good morning daddy!"
He hummed in acknowledging sipping on his own drink as he poured a little of orange juice for his trouble maker sucessor.
Vitamins for his child are important.
When all of you got settled down Chisaki ordered that Kaito went to his room and changed his clothes quickly, yet refusing to tell any of you why...
Only when you heard a faint knocked and Chisaki earglier getting up from the couch and making his way to greet the person outside.
"Chrono. Late."
"Sorry for the delay Overhaul, hello (Y/N)." The man greeted you even despite the distance.
You swallow down your laugh as you waved at him with an smile.
Of course he had to call Kurono.
"Daddy I already- Hi uncle Chrono!" The child smiled seing his godparent.
I TOLD YOU I WAS MAKING ARROW MAN KAITO'S GOD PARENT AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME
The man smiled down at the child before returning his attention to his friend
"So, all the day with him?"
"Yes, give him sweets or any toys he sees interest."
"Only if he behaves." You aproached the mans, carresing softly the dark brow hair of your little boy "Understood Kaito?" The child merely puts his arms behind his back as he averted his eyes from any adults on the room with a smirk.
"Such a brat." Smirked Hari immediately stopping when he saw not only yours but Chisaki's glare, putting his hands in a form of a silent apology.
Only him and his wife can call their little half angel half demon brat Chrono back the fuck off.
Before the child exited the house, Chisaki wrapped one arm around you and sayed the words that immediately made Kaito turn on his back.
"This way I got mommy all to myself then. Enjoy you day Kaito." He smirked devilish down at his son.
The child almost runned back, but Chrono just picked him up like a bag of potatoes and went off with an squirming kid repeatedly saying "DADDY CHEATED, DADDY CHEATED!"
"'Daddy cheated'? Kai, what does that means?" You asked smilling up at him.
Chisaki merely shrugged before dipling you for a kiss as he closed the door.
"I would be glad if I knew, children are weird my angel."

Maybe I Should Resign: Chapter 3
For easier reading, try this link.
Jumin Han was known for being a very busy man. His interest was easiest to pique when it involved their company’s profit and reputation—excluding his hobby formulating cat-related projects. Given his position as the heir of the famous C&R International company, each day was a working day to him.
It was difficult for any business man to approach him, since his schedule was mostly filled with appointments and business trips… so imagine how odd it was for people to see the heir allot an entire day per week for something unrelated to company matters.
“Mr. Han will no longer accept business-related calls every Saturday due to a shift in schedule. Any emergency call will be forwarded to the person speaking, Jaehee Kang, his chief assistant. Again, we apologize for the sudden changes.” With that, she hung up the phone and sighed.
Things had been hectic as usual, but she was not happy with the additional task. If her boss was not accepting anything concerning the company on Saturdays, that meant there would be an extra load on her shoulders.
“Assistant Kang,” the last voice she wanted to hear for the day called from behind her.
She turned to look at him and gave a slight nod. “Yes, Mr. Han?” she acknowledged. The words had not even left his lips, and she can already feel the psychological stress his words were gonna cause her.
“Ah,” he spoke while she mentally embraced what was about to come.
There was silence for a few seconds as he continued tapping on his phone
“Make sure to only accept calls coming from the emergency line. Unless a call is made from that line, you will be free on Saturdays.”
“Understood,” she answered abruptly, her focus immediately going back to the computer on her table when her boss turned to leave. Slowly, her exhausted mind processed the information she heard.
Wait, I thought I heard “free” for a second.
“Eh?” She thought she heard something crack when her head forcefully snapped to look at the door behind her. It was like her head was the only part that understood the situation while her body remained facing the workload before her.
Perhaps it was his imagination, but Jumin thought he heard a noblewoman’s laugh from the other side of the door he just exited.
Dark eyes squinted at the sound.
Strange….
Well, he had no time to delve deeper into it. He had a day to prepare for, and he promised a certain person he would get a contract of agreement signed within the afternoon. “Let’s get this over with.”
0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0
The days quickly passed by, she noticed.
“I guess time really flies when you’re having a good day.”
Ever since the incident, her neighbours began to leave them alone. Most were even sucking up in hopes to appeal to the man they thought was her suitor. It astonished her how people can quickly turn into a new leaf the moment they realize they might need the person they used to abuse.
“Sister, will the fabulous man be visiting our home again?” Riri asked, her hands diving into the bag of chips she bought using the money she gained from doing errands.
Hannah pondered, her gaze glued on the old, wooden ceiling. There were small cracks all over them, but their ceiling and walls were much more sturdy than the floor they walked on. It may look worn, still… she was happy to have a home.
“I don’t think so. I think we’ll only meet such a person once. It’s even a miracle he was here in the first place.”
“What do you think was he doing here ? Do you think he’s a politician who wanted to pretend he’s helping people to get votes?”
“What? How do you even know that? And no, I don’t think so. He would have dressed poorly to convince people he can empathize.”
Hannah continued with her cooking while Riri returned to her bag of chips. It was certainly peaceful; it was peaceful before Sana ran into the room, flailing her arms around happily and squealing.
“How was your date, Big Sis? We never got to ask!”
Hannah giggled at the youngest’s antics.
“It’s not a date, Sana, and it went surprisingly fine to be honest. I was expecting him to make a bit of fuss, since most rich people don’t like the market.”
“Do you want to see him again?”
Hannah contemplated Sana’s question. Remembering the time they spent together, she can clearly recall having a good laugh with the man during their wayfaring. However, would they even meet again?
Where does he even live? Does he work near their place?
“I don’t mind, I guess. Though! Next time, I won’t forget to ask his name.”
It seemed like fate got rid of her troubles of doing just that.
It was an early Saturday morning when she finally embraced the fact that she had the mental capacity of a guinea pig. She was standing in front of the counter where her childhood friend was working as the barista, hoping to get a job as a waitress or a dishwasher in the small yet packed cafe. Less customers usually came in the morning, so the atmosphere and the scent of brewed coffee gave her a sense of serenity.
“So you’re saying… you left your job because you’ve been sending love letters to the wrong person?”
“No, no, I resigned before I got a bad performance evaluation. I don’t want my mistake to affect my job application once I switch work.”
Her friend stared at her incredulously. “What?” she exclaimed, “Were you not getting paid enough for your job? Why were you planning to switch jobs?”
Hannah shook her head, her fingers pinching the bridge of her nose. “My goodness… every time I talk about this, I am reminded of how idiotic I am. Salary was great, but I felt like choking in my sweat and tears each time I went to work.”
As they were waiting for the boss to arrive, the conversation of two middle aged women caught their attention.
“I think the CEO of C&R made the right choice in creating a cemetery business if they have already bought the Life Care hospital.”
Hannah’s ears perked up at the mention of her former boss.
“Agreed. Hospitals and pharmacies are necessities, but none of us can escape death. But that aside, when do you think will the heir of C&R replace his father?”
She discreetly watched the two women converse on the table near her. They were mindlessly talking about the current news written on the newspaper they were holding; and when they tossed the paper on the table, Hannah could not help locking her eyes on the cover of the newspaper.
It was a familiar face…
…it was that familiar face.
“Jennie! Quick! Hand me a newspaper!” She wildly pointed at the stack of newspapers displayed over the counter.
Jennie knit her brows but did so anyway. She calmly handed her the rolled paper whereas Hannah seized it from her grasp, and this caused her to look at her friend in an offended manner with her hand on her chest. “Okay, I demand an explanation.”
Hannah’s eyes bore a hole on the headline as she gaped at the face of the man printed on the paper.
Ju-Jumin… Han?
Like how Seven once told her to shout his name and he would come to her in 0.1 seconds, an expensive-looking car suddenly crashed against a tree just outside the coffee shop. Everyone inside gawked at the accident, but their jaws did not drop further until a classy man in a formal attire casually stepped out of the car, seeming like nothing ever happened.
“Woah, who’s that guy?”
“I guess rich people park their cars by crashing it.”
“What a waste! That car could have bought me a good wife.”
“Are they shooting a movie? It looks so cool!”
From the huge glass windows of the place, they can see the man approaching the entrance door of the cafe, which was enough to create ruckus among the customers. Hannah squinted her eyes to get a better view of the man from the distance. He was barely visible from all the people blocking the way; yet the second she saw his hair, her body immediately made a quick turn and swooped under the table where the middle aged women sat.
They did not notice her move for they were busy observing the man that just entered the room.
He stood by the door, towering over the people who went to surround him. Many of them asked for a photo whilst some asked for an autograph, but none of them were spared a glance.
“Are you perhaps the suitor of Mei’s daughter? Hannah?” an elderly asked, effectively distracting him from his search.
He bowed politely at the older woman. “My apologies. I didn’t notice you, Ma’am.”
She waved at him dismissively and laughed, “It is fine! You are quite a tall man and I have aged terribly, so it is natural for you to not see me.”
He smiled, and Hannah was a hundred percent sure she heard dreamy sighs all over the room.
“Yes, I did come here to see Hannah. Have you seen her?”
“Ah, yes! She was just over…” she trailed off as she pointed at the empty spot where she had last seen the girl, “there?”
Jumin blinked.
“Oh, my… I swear I saw her there just a few moments ago.”
After a few seconds of silence, a woman screamed from the table near the counter. “Ah! What is that?” She stood and stepped away from the table with her companion.
Jumin decided to ignore them and headed towards the barista. “Excuse me,” he started, “have you seen a woman with long brown hair and brown eyes? Her mother told me she came here looking for a job.”
While they were busy chatting, Hannah took the opportunity to switch hiding spots. Unfortunately, before she could crawl out, the previous women lifted the tablecloth, revealing her hunched figure hidden under the table.
Everyone fell silent.
Black slacks and black leather shoes soon entered Hannah’s line of sight, followed by a gorgeous face that blinded the darkest part of her soul.
Jumin kneeled on the floor, one knee touching the ground and one supporting his arm. She had never witnessed such a serious face appear so innocent and child-like. His typical aura of mystery was now replaced by a glimmer of curiosity.
“Why are you there?” he asked in a soft voice.
I feel like a terrified kitten getting coaxed to come closer to him. “I… I-I was just,” she squeaked and patted the floor out of the blue, “checking if the floor here is sturdy.” She laughed awkwardly.
He stared at her for a moment then offered her his hand. Once she placed her hand in his, he pulled her up and gently grasped her arm to support her balance. “I was hoping we could go somewhere today.”
Hannah’s cheeks burned red when he even crouched to brush the dust off her jeans. “Oh, thank you,” she muttered. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“It’s alright.”
She can smell it. The scent of jealousy was so potent that she could literally see the dark atmosphere around them...
...or maybe it was from the smoke the car crash was emitting.
“I think we should get your car fixed.”
“It’s fine. My butler has ordered a new one prior to my departure. He somehow predicted this will happen.”
Okay, it’s either his butler is a psychic or he’s just a terrible driver.
0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0
She had no idea how they ended up this way.
Jumin sat next to her inside a cab. He was whispering to her—albeit blatantly—if they were supposed to give the driver a tip or if that would be insulting to his profession. Hannah felt like dying inside from embarrassment, because she was certain the driver can hear their supposedly inaudible conversation.
“Wait, I am not sure if this is a good idea.” She lightly nudged his elbow.
“What is not a good idea?”
“You know… hanging out with me.”
He took a glimpse at her fidgeting fingers, his face blank as he watched the passing scenery slowly change from a disorganized place to a clean environment. “So you’re aware of who I am? And next time, don’t just go with a person you just met for a day,” he stated apathetically.
“Sorry… Sir… I didn’t know until today. If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have told those people you were my suitor—and! I wouldn’t have brought you to the market. I… it is not my intention… I mean, I don’t want to involve you in a scandal.”
She knew she was blabbering, and she did not have a clue if he was listening either. All he was doing was having his arms crossed with his gaze up ahead. This was creating a debate in her head between jumping off the car or pretending she never said anything; she was leaning on choosing the former.
“It is nice that you worry about my reputation, and I appreciate it,” he began, “but tell me... were you the one who had been attaching sticky notes on my cup of….” He turned to look at her but then paused.
He wondered what she was doing, since she was slowly and quietly opening the car door…
...while the car was moving.
“What are you doing?” he bellowed. He quickly pulled her waist and shut the door, earning them the attention of the driver.
“Is everything alright?” he asked.
“Yes, pardon us,” he responded coolly, but his glare on the girl said otherwise.
“Sorry! I wasn’t thinking straight! I thought we were at the mall already.” Obviously, that was a lie. She badly wanted to escape her current predicament, and it was the only way she could think of.
“Be more attentive when you are traveling. You could have died.”
“Yes, Sir!
0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0 ~ 0
The incident had temporarily changed the conversation. However, she knew the topic was bound to return to the unanswered question; so when it did, she could not stop herself from cringing on the inside. My goodness! I blame my parents for giving birth to me without my consent!
Okay, she was just being stupid.
“I only want to know if it was you.” He leaned on his seat and waited for her answer.
She was letting the fancy music inside the restaurant fill in the silence between them. As a straight-forward man, he never liked probing for answers; therefore, the action only made him narrow his eyes at her.
“Do you know you are suspected of theft?”
Alright, she really needed to talk.
“What?” she gasped.
“An important document has gone missing,” he continued as he scrutinized her expression, “and we are performing an investigation on all employees that left the company from the day the document was last seen till the day it was found to be missing. It is best if you cooperate, Ms. Hannah.”
“Wha—what does the notes have to do with this matter?”
“They were borderline suspicious. Also, upon further investigation, the date the note was first received was in the same month the cameras were placed in a loop, so did you or did you not write those notes?”
“I did but I….”
I was meaning to give those to Seven, but I didn’t know he lied about being in charge of the coffee—wait a second! Camera? Loop? A secret agent gathering data inside C&R?
Puzzle pieces clicked together.
“I honestly have no idea about the document you are talking about, but I did write those… notes.” Shit, what do I say? SEVEN! As if on cue, a familiar red head entered her peripheral vision.
With a single huge gulp from her glass of water, she swiftly stood up and excused herself.
Seven thought it was like a scene from a movie, where a lovely lady would grab a man’s shirt and lead him into a secluded place for some romance—except he was slammed too roughly against the wall.
“Hey! Ow! I’m a sadist not a masochist!” he whined. His hand went to rub the back of his sore head.
“Seven, what the heck did you do?” she demanded, her fingers tightly tangled on his jacket. “Now, C&R is suspecting me of theft—what the heck did you do?”
He thought he heard a demon growl at the end of her rant. “Wait, wait! Explain to me what—”
“I was attaching notes on one of the cups on the tray that you were supposed to be serving because I wanted to at least make you happy and—”
“Aww, you really did tha—”
“Hush! And I had been doing it for months but it turned out I was actually sending it to Jumin Han and I have been sending it on the same month you placed the camera on loop and that was the same month you entered C&R—”
“Wait! Was the cheap kitty stamp on his table from you? You gave it to him?”
“That was supposed to be for you!” Her high-pitched voice cracked from her hopeless desperation.
Seven’s scandalized gasp made a few heads exiting the restroom turn to them with cautious glances. “That thief!” he snapped, his head whipping towards the wall where Jumin’s seat would be.
Hannah sighed and dropped her hands to her sides. She looked at him with teary eyes; her lips quivered to express her anxiety. This stirred a heavy feeling inside his chest, for the least he wanted to do was make his best friend cry.
“Seven, pleeaase take this seriously,” she begged him.
“Okay, okay!” he whispered; distress was evident in his voice. “Don’t cry! Just!” He cupped her face and squeezed her damp cheeks together. “Shhh… don’t cry. I’ll tell you what to do.”
As promised, he gave her a plan. It was not an intricate one; in fact, it was simple enough to be realistic and easily remembered. She thought it was a perfect lie.
With a peck on her forehead, he twirled her like a princess in a royal ball then gave her back a light push.
“Now, go!”

I didn’t realize how huge this restaurant is. She walked with her vision focused on the black locks of Jumin’s hair from afar. It’s embarrassing but I hope it works.
“It happens to him almost everyday. I’m sure this will be believable, but expect to lose whatever friendship you developed with him. He is known to hate those kinds of people.” Seven lectured, raising one finger in the air as she eagerly nodded at him.
“Sounds fair,” she mumbled to herself before settling herself back in her seat.
Jumin gave her a look she could not fathom. “Are you well?”
“Yes, I just needed to compose myself… because you see,” she stammered as she bashfully tucked her hair behind her ear. “Being told that I’m a suspect is alarming, but I was being truthful when I said I did not take anything from the C&R. You are free to inspect me, Mr. Han.”
He remained still.
“A-And! I sent you those letters and notes, because… I was,” she took a deep breath before continuing, “I was hoping to… be… your… ro-romantic… interest.” She felt like she was choking the words out, and she could literally feel her neck disappearing from how much her head pushed back into her shoulders.
Ehmehgersh. Kill me.
She could not find the courage to meet his stare.
Why is he taking so long to speak?
Reluctantly, she lifted her face a little to check what he was doing…
...and he was peering at her.
“I didn’t—”
“Jumin.”
She was taken aback by his sudden word. “I’m sorry… what?”
“Just call me ‘Jumin’.”
It must have been the effect of stress and paranoia, but she thought she saw a serene smile grace his lips.
However, his next words confirmed it.
“I would like to properly court you, Hannah.”

A Little Theory
It wasn’t that the egos were terrible people or anything. It was just that… they weren’t the most becoming.
Jackieboy Man was a so-called superhero with absolutely no powers whatsoever. Police saw him as more of a nuisance then a hero. People started to avoid interacting with him, wanting none of his “help”.
Marvin the Magnificent’s shows were so terrible very few came, the only ones who did only wanted to make fun of him, or criticize him endlessly.
People trembled when Dr. Schneeplestein walked into the room, aware of the many patients he had killed over the years. His wife couldn’t bear another death brought by her husband and left him to his troubles.
Chase Brody ran a channel that got more trolls and hate with each passing day. He could barely escape the failures piling up on him, from family issues to channel scorn. His embarrassed wife couldn’t stand his pathetic lifestyle and left with the kids following suit.
Four outcasts, with nothing worth redeeming.
When Sean McLoughlin first introduced his egos, he meant to have fun, making characters through satirical nonsense. They weren’t the best people, and frankly, he couldn’t care less.
But when life couldn’t bear to look in their direction, the fans did. The community couldn’t help themselves, there must have been something there. Perhaps it was Sean, fooling around but having so much fun dressing up and playing pretend, his bright blue eyes twinkling with laughter, his smile brighter than the sunniest day. Maybe it was sympathy for the green-haired beings with Sean’s face. But they saw something in those egos, that no one else, not even Sean, could see.
The changes came gradually, but Sean saw it every time he came to check on his creations. Jackieboy Man began lifting items heavier than all the egos combined, and scouring the city, taking out mob bosses that had been wanted for decades. Marvin’s shows became more successful, and he was able to make something of himself. More of Dr. Schneeplestein’s patients walked out of the hospital alive and healthy, rather than in a bag headed to the morgue. Chase’s trickshots were beginning to perfect themselves, and Chase was thriving on his new fanbase.
Sean began dreading the visits less and less, as he watched his creations’ eyes light up as each explained their day. There were hiccups, or course, but bonds were forming, and the egos had never been happier.
Sean couldn’t help the nagging thought in his head. Was this his community’s doing? Was their love and support for the egos the reason they were so strong and capable and happy now? Everytime he found a new post showing their love for an ego, the stronger the ego got.
A new suit for Jackieboy, and he became stronger and more capable. A sweet picture of Schneep, and another patient lived to see a new day. A drabble of happiness for Chase, and he got billions of likes on his newest video and a chance to watch his kids on the weekend. One fantastic design for Marvin, and little sparks of magic started to show in the magician’s hands. One little post was all it took, and the egos got stronger.
And then Ȃ̴̼͓̬͎͔̻̀̆́͋̈́̎̌̒̄ņ̵̢͚̯̩͕̙̯̟̞̥̉̈́͛͋̃̾̃̄̉͠ͅt̶̨̡̛̮̣̲̭̥̳̱͍̾̄̈͒͊͛̅̏̌̓̕͜͠į̵̛̛̦̪̎́͂̓͒͂͋́̀̐̑̕͘ş̴́̓̑͂̿͊̿̕e̶̡̨̛͈̜͕̣͍̬͔̣̲̾̓̓̌̄̈́͋̊͊̎̔͝p̸̢̢̡̮̹̮̝̻̠͇̝͙͎͌̀͐͋͒̉ͅͅt̵̼̦̩̳̀̒̀̈́̏͗̎͐͊͑͘̚͠͝î̵̗̮͗̂͋̓̒́̌̕c̸̫̲͕̬̝͇̬̼̀̿̓̅̀͌͆̓̈̽̒̚͘̕ę̵̧͙̣̻͔̳̽̿̈́͑y̴̯̙͍̤̻̿̒͑e̶̡̨̛̦̻̮͕͇̓́͆́̔ showed up. He snaked his way into the egos’ lives, bent on destroying them and their world. Dr. Schneeplestein became the first doctor to find when someone was attacked by Anti. Jackieboy’s mission was less about helping the city, and more about protecting it from Anti. Chase’s bad thoughts returned, and he began practicing using real guns, hoping it would protect his family from the monster that haunted his dreams. Marvin had bursts of real magic, and he used them to track down and fight the glitch terrorizing the city.
If it was the community’s love that brought strength to the egos, then it was also their love that kept Anti alive. Many of them didn’t consider Anti to be a huge threat, and it was all in good fun to play with a villain.
But Sean knew of Anti’s power. Enough support from the community, and Anti could take their world by storm. He hadn’t thought much of it when he first brought Anti to life, but when he came to the egos’ world after that fateful Halloween, he realized just how much of a threat Anti really was.
And so he began fighting in his own way. He did his best to ignore Anti entirely, hoping the fans would back off, and Anti’s power would weaken. But the fans made sure Anti stayed alive, and from that point on, a war was waged.
Anti’s support vs the love for the egos. An unstoppable force versus an immovable object. The villain versus the new heroes. Sean did all he could to help the heroes succeed, from reblogging fanart to holding polls excluding Anti.
Maybe it was that poll that sent Anti off the deep end. Because since that day, things only got worse.
August 3rd, 2017. Sean found he couldn’t get into the ego's world. He tried his best to open the door, but to no avail. Anti had discovered another foe, by the name of Jack. And the glitch was not pleased.
On the other side, Dr. Schneeplestein fought a losing battle, trying to wake his friend up. Chase could only watch in tears as his best friend slipped into a coma, and Dr. Schneeplestein disappeared.
While Sean couldn’t enter, he could see what was happening. Chase prevented his world from finding out about Jack, putting on a smile and running both channels. Jackie and Marvin tried in vain to find the good doctor, but there was no trace of him.
Jackie went missing next. Sean tried playing as the hero in a new video, but not even his playthrough could bring the superhero back. Marvin’s magic was now the only thing protecting him and Chase from Anti’s persistent attacks.
Sean knew it would be insensitive, but he could feel the new ego’s presence nagging at him, and besides, maybe Chase and Marvin would like a new friend.
For the first time, an ego was made from pure, elated joy, rather than satire. Jameson Jackson graced the moving pictures with his charm and exuberance.
Naturally, Anti was furious. Furious at “Jack”, who, despite being a coma, created such a happy and kind character. On Halloween, of all days! His day! The glitch let his fury show that Halloween, and Jameson Jackson suffered the consequences.
The community balked at welcoming the gentleman from the 1920’s, fearing him to Anti’s plaything or even the glitch himself.
Sean calmed them down, welcoming Jameson as his new ego. Most of the community quickly fell in love with his cute and quirky mannerisms, but the rest still feared him to be evil. While Jameson sure didn’t show it, it broke his heart every time someone accused him of being with Anti.
Marvin and Chase were sceptical to welcome the new ego, but seeing how much being doubted and feared hurt the dapper gentleman, they quickly took him in, deciding that if Jameson wasn’t with Anti now, he would be if they continued to fear and isolate him.
Anti, on the other hand, couldn’t let go of the fact that some considered JJ to be evil. Even Sean played around with the idea. Finally, he decided to act. When JJ was alone, with the others on tour, Anti kidnapped him, intent on making a puppet out of him.
JJ’s disappearance crushed the last two egos. Marvin spent hours searching for the glitch, but he found his powers faltering. Chase looked into it, and realized that JJ wasn’t the only ego not trusted. They were all under fire, Marvin especially. Chase never brought it up with Marvin, but the magician found out soon enough. Not unlike JJ, he did his best to hide his pain.
May came, and Sean couldn’t stand his egos suffering. It was honestly starting to get to him too. So he acted in his own way. Dressing like the doctor, he posted a new video and picture of Schneep.
The fandom took it as a sign that the doctor was alive, and their love certainly brought good news to Marvin and Chase. Both could feel the doctor’s presence. Schneep was alive. They didn’t know where he was, but he was alive.
Disaster struck again, later that month. As Sean experienced with new games and possible storylines, some of the fandom began to suspect Chase of villainy. Was he with Anti? Did he kill his family? The stress of being Jack, along with the accusations, slowly chipped away at Chase and he began using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Anti made his move. With the vlogger drunk and off his guard, he quickly baited him into thinking his kids had been attacked, then spirited Chase away.
Now it was just Marvin left. He had to do everything now, from looking after the channel, protecting and caring for Jack, to surviving Anti. He was nothing more than a shell of the confident magician he used to be. Exhaustion and loneliness caused his magic to suffer, and yet, he persisted.
Sean did try to enter the realm again, but other ventures pulled him away from the world, and he found himself too swamped with his own thriving life to help Marvin. But seeing the magician so downcast broke his heart, so...
He tried another little trick. Ego Art Weeks, during the summer, when many artists weren’t swamped with work and school. The fandom celebrated joyously, showing passion and beauty for the egos.
One by one, Sean could feel their strength returning, despite being in Anti’s clutches. It let him know his creations, his egos, his friends, were still alive.
Marvin was a little scared at first when he felt his powers returning like wildfire. He didn’t know who was helping him, but he appreciated it. But, he could use a little more help…
When the weeks were over with, Marvin began to work. He hijacked the posts, leaving Anti’s marks all over them. A little sign, hinting at what had happened.
The community panicked, fearing Anti had attacked. Anti responded by spreading the fire and posting some fanart of him on Sean’s Tumblr. Sean was locked out of his account for a week as Marvin and Anti fought over the Tumblr.
As summer dies down, a war still wages. Marvin the Magnificent hangs by a thread, living a lie, protecting his friend, waiting for the glitch bitch to show his face again.
Antisepticeye persists but can never quite break his “puppets”.
They’re all alive. They’re all still out there.
