Oh, I'm getting better at that whole summoning thing. Hello, welcome to my ritual!

I would love to share everything about this story, but you know, I'm not actually sure how many people are going to like it. It's a very...let's explore the toxic codependency present in their relationship even when they're fooling themselves sort of thing, but in like a good way? Also, oblivious James who's not as oblivious as he's pretending to be, bless him.

But since you asked (and because i simply cannot help myself and need constant validation), I'll leave you with this piece as it makes me laugh.

James Potter, for all his faults and merits and whatever may rest in the greyness of his soul in between those two points, is not a violent person unless necessary. He will defend those he loves that are threatened through the use of spells or physical means without one thought on the matter, without hesitation, reflexes quicker than lightning. And it's true that in his younger years, before he grew up and experienced the truth of the world, that he'd been more than a bit of a brutish bully. Numerous people will attest to that, but the point remains that James had evolved, stepped out of his childishness for most things, seen some of the errors of his ways, leading him into the life closely resembling that of a pacifist.

Except, for whatever reason, when it comes to Sirius.

"Ah – shit!" shouts Sirius, stumbling backwards under the force of the impact. His vision blurs for several seconds, stance unsteady, his hand coming up to his tender nose and pulling away in a stream of crimson. He can taste the blood on his lips and tongue when he swipes it outwards. "What the fuck, Potter?"

And really, the same can mostly be said about Sirius as well.

He surges forward with a loud snarl, arms outstretched towards James, only Remus stepping between them and hauling Sirius backwards saving him from the oncoming mauling. Sirius spits his rage past Remus' head to no avail, succeeding in absolutely nothing.

"Nine months, Black!" yells James, his fist held tightly at his side as though he's waiting to swing it again. "Nine! And you're asking me what the fuck? What's wrong with you, disappearing on me like that?"

"I would've stayed gone longer if I knew you were going to smash my face in the first chance you got!" blasts Sirius in a fit.

"Fuck off!"

"You fuck off!"

"Nice to see you two never change," mutters Remus, close enough to Sirius' ear that he can hear him. "Hold still," he orders once Sirius has stopped struggling quite as much, Remus pulling back, eyes narrowed as he inspects his nose. "I'm going to heal you."

"Leave it," calls James rancidly, arms crossed over his chest. "He looks better that way."

"I'll give you a face to match if you'll come closer."

"You'd have to do a lot more than whomp me in the face to make me that ugly."

"Twat!"

"Prick!"

"Muppet!"

"Arse-licker!"

"Takes one to know one!"

This was actually super fun! Only having to draw waist-up was so 🤌🤌🤌 and this forced me to think of some different poses/ angles so they wouldn’t look boring, 10/10 experience

In Jason’s dreams, Bruce doesn't look like this.

Hard and pale eyed, cloaked in dark kevlar and darker intentions, more blood than he is man. His dreams are pearl blue, like the man behind the mask.

Jason's throat is so arid, so tight, watching the dark border separating him from Crime Alley. He's never been afraid of home. Not until now.

“Wait—”

But he is not Jason, and this is not Bruce. Not Batman, either. This is what remains when a son dies.

Batman knows he's scared. He always knows when they're scared. Criminals, rogues, monster or man.

He never realized, jus how much Bruce softened his voice , when he wore the cloak around his Jay. Now he does.

Batman sounds like the world died on his tongue.

“Get in the alley.”

Red Hood doesn’t shake, but Jason does, inside his mind, where it matters most.

“Why?” He whispers back, praying his voice processor doesn't reveal the fear behind it. “You can't kill me.”

He says it like an accusation because it is.

Batman considers him with icy apathy, walking and walking, like a horseman of destruction with a target and aim.

Jason doesn't realize his body moves backwards.

“Exactly.”

Consider a scene where telemachus is oh I don't know a month old. Odysseus is refusing to put him down. Let alone let anybody hold him (including penelope). Odysseus clutching his son tight to his chest as he (carefully) runs around the room. Penelope chasing him screaming that it was her turn it's not fair that odysseus held him all of yesterday and this morning. Odysseus, in a fit of madness, prays to Athena. Athena showing up in full battle mode because she already insured that Ithaca would not be distributed what's happening who's dying why... she manifests fully her spear out only to find her weaver at the end of her spear point, frozen in shock as odysseus runs away cackling.

I understand the instinct to make Modern Odysseus the type of guy who use's his son/wife's name as a password. he's definitely obsessed with them enough

but Odysseus is smart. he would never make his password something easy to guess and his son/wife's name is super easy to guess, especially since he'd talk about them extensively to every single person he met ever

instead I propose his password is something absurd, like 'olive tree' but using 'Penelope' as a cipher

Epic would try to make a good first impression with his best bros boss, but nightmare is a little distracted with the smell(?) of nightmares and sleep deprivation on him

Anon you are so right, he'd wanna make a great impression on Cross's weird employer/ adopter situation but there's no way he can hide the terrible state of his mental health

Cross thinks the meeting didn't go well because Nightmare couldn't understand a word Epic said. Nightmare thinks the meeting didn't go well because he was so distracted by how much repressed negativity this guy was putting out. Epic thinks the meeting went great 👍

Honestly Nightmare wouldn't care anyway, he doesn't think it's any of his business who Cross is friends with as long as he's happy. His boys are adults, they don't need his permission for anything* as far as he's concerned, but he probably will ask about Epic from time to time after this...
