certified gay episode of dr who. very queer. david tennant and neil patrick harris gave each other emotionally charged looks for 20 flat minutes. nph put on a silly little german accent and did a silly little drag routine to the spice girls. ncuti gatwa played high stakes catch on a rooftop in a shirt, a tie, his briefs, and a pair of high tops. the master's still kicking.

coining the term twospiritphobia / twospiritmisia.
Tumblr media
Q: what is twospiritphobia / twospiritmisia?
A: the discrimination, hatred, exclusion & erasure of those who identify as two spirit and/or indigiqueer.
Tumblr media
Q: why not just call it homophobia/transphobia against indigenous qipoc / queer indigenous poc?
A: because not every indigenous person identifies by western lgbtqia+ labels which are a predominantly western eurocentric concept that does not always align with indigenous turtle island concepts, not all queer natives identify with two spirit due to its heavy inherent historical, social, political, cultural, spiritual & ceremonial connotations & because we deserve to have our terms to describe our own experiences of discrimination that inherently includes our indigeneity & our own sacred two spirit nature.
Tumblr media
Q: why did you(&) coin this term?
A: because i've noticed that in the past year & even before, the predominantly white queer community refuses to include us let alone see us & when they do, it's usually to tokenize us then throw us away when we're no longer convenient, erase us (see: nex benedict, when the mostly white queer community erased their indigenous two spirit identity to make them their trans/nonbinary martyr despite them being choctaw & completely ignoring mmeiwg2s+/mmeip issues which is never talked about in queer spaces unless natives talk about it), talk down to us when we don't conform to your western concepts of gender & orientation that do not inherently apply to us, speak over us & our issues & push us out of your fucking queer spaces without ever actually trying to work with us despite the fact that we the two spirit community who were revered as sacred have existed on turtle island for over 5000 years & were the first victims & survivors of racist imperialist homophobic & transphobic based war crimes & genocide & have been fighting & resisting for our liberation far before anyone else ever set foot on these lands, longer than any other queer community on turtle island, longer than stonewall & whenever queer history is brought up, two spirit people & the violence against us from the beginning of colonization of turtle island are never discussed & quite frankly i've had enough of native erasure both historically speaking & in the present day. there's a reason why there's a 2s in front of 2slgbtqia+ in "canada", because we were here first. we will not be erased. there can be no liberation without two spirits at the center of queer activism. by adding this to your vocabulary you acknowledge & honor two spirits as the first queer people of turtle island & we deserve your allyship, respect, protection & solidarity, respect the indigenous roots of the term two spirit, honor indigenous peoples' way of living, loving & learning & building communities across turtle island, emphasize the importance of indigenous perspectives & identities within the broader 2slgbtqia+ community & further acknowledging & recognizing the historical & ongoing contributions of indigenous peoples to discussions about gender & sexual diversity & highlights the need for visibility & inclusion of two spirits in these conversations & acknowledging, respecting & honoring indigenous peoples as the traditional stewards of the land & that indigenous peoples were the first to build communities that honored romantic, sexual, gender & sex diversity on the land of turtle island ever since time immemorial.
Tumblr media
Q: what are some examples of twospiritphobia?
A: the erasure of two spirits both historically & in the present, assaulting/committing hatecrimes against individuals who are, or who are perceived or assumed to be two spirits, nonnatives — both white settlers & nonnative poc — culturally appropriating two spirit when it's an exclusive closed term from closed cultures for indigenous people of turtle island, if you are not first nations, métis, inuit, indigenous american, alaska native, indigenous mexican, indigenous central american, greenlandic inuit or otherwise not indigenous to turtle island and/or mixed with any of those groups, & you are not either reconnecting, semiconnected or connected to your culture, you cannot use the term, using antinative slurs against two spirits on any context or form that one cannot reclaim and/or using said antinative slurs casually/as insults, harassing/threatening/mocking/intimidating two spirit individuals while motivated by said individual's two spirit & indigenous identity whether online or face-to-face, treating two spirits differently than pericishetallo natives, even if one is native themselves, attempting to "correct" two spirits on their own identities, saying our two spirit identities are wrong, using religion and/or spirituality as an excuse to harm or exclude two spirit people, fetishizing/objectifying/sexualizing/romanticizing individuals based on their two spirit identities, opposing and/or dismissing the need for explicit two spirit representation & progress for two spirit rights & two spirit liberation, erasing two spirit issues as inherently gay/trans issues, not acknowledging twospiritphobic behavior in others, refusing to speak up for two spirit people, telling two spirits that they're unnatural or "attention seeking", speaking over two spirited people when they tell you you're being racist/being twospiritphobic, policing two spirits on who we can & can't be in relation to ourselves especially from nonnatives even more from white settlers, accusing two spirits of "oppression olympics" whenever we bring up our issues, not acknowledging two spirits as the first queer people who've existed for thousands of years on turtle island & denying indigeneity as the core element of being two spirit.
Tumblr media
disclaimer: do not fucking remove credit from us& being the coiner of this term, while the experiences of twospiritphobia/twospiritmisia are nothing new, we& as an indigenous bodied system demand respect as the coiner of this term. please ask if you intend on using this term on your wikis/masterlists. do not use this term for yourself to describe your experiences if nonnative/2S. nonnatives do not fucking derail, especially yt folx.

enemies to lovers / but you'll never own my heart
@luzon-dove happy birthday, Quinn!! As a present, I decided to draw a piece fanart of your "blood in the walls of the yagami house" AU fic series, since I found it very well-written and full of super interesting ideas and concepts. I hope you like it!
#i (ai)#death note#light yagami#l lawliet#fanart#lawlight#own art#I actually really wanted to write a comment to it but as of the time I'm scheduling this post I still haven't been able to get around to it#but like. GOD. it's good?? like at first when I heard about this AU I wasn't very interested & didn't really get the point#(for me personally I mean. bc I was like 'okay I don't get the idea of lawlight as brothers')#but after that I saw your posts more and also read other fics from you. and your writing your other fics are awesome#plus we also talked more and became friends; you're very nice and your takes are really good#so eventually I checked the series out and WOW. holy shit???? I almost regret not reading it sooner because jesus christ it answered my#initial question & way more. like RIGHT I get it now. it's actually so perfect as a setup all of it. I was greatly impressed#and all characters and relationships are so compelling and well-written and everything. aside from lawlight I especially LOVE your misa#and yagamane. and just. holy shit one of the things that compelled me the most was the family setup of the yagamis#L the bastard son and disgrace of the family... Light. his property. who doesn't want to be. perfect child. could've been a perfect family.#and yet. so he tries to kill L. over and over again. because he could've been perfect could've been normal could've been clean could've--#... if not for L's existence. GOD. and the mind games!! it's so compelling and excellent like idk how to put it#my initial disinterest was caused by 'idk how lawlight would be half-brothers like how would it even work' but as I read I was like. MAN#there's no more perfect answer to that than this like literally HOW did you manage to make this basically 'DN but the conflict is family-#-drama and incest' and make it WORK exactly well. thematically. in terms of plot. for characters and relationships. and everything#absolutely incredible. so anyway yeah I made this!!#incest cw#<- just in case anyone wants to filter it out#alrighty I guess I did write a comment here! though I was also hoping to like comment on details and specific lines

you know, i can handle a little bit of fun "Nandor is dumb" talk, but i have a net-zero tolerance for any implication that Nandor is not educated.
Nandor would have been incredibly educated in his lifetime.
even (or especially) as a soldier in the Islamic World. being a soldier was more like getting sent to boarding school that's also a military camp. they weren't just concerned with creating loyal fodder for war. they were building the next government officials, generals, accountants, advisors, etc. it was important that young men knew how to read, write, speak multiple languages, learn philosophy...sometimes even studying art and music was mandatory.
if he was nobility (and its most likely he was), take all that shit and multiply it exponentially. Nandor would have been reading Plato at the same age most people are still potty training. he would have been specifically groomed in such a way to not be just a brilliant strategist and warrior, but also diplomate and ambassador of literally the center of scientific and cultural excellence of the age.
so like yeah, he can be a big dummy sometimes, sure. but that bitch is probably more educated than any of us will ever be.

So I just finished watching “Blade Runner” (The Final Cut) for the first time after re-reading “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”, and I just feel like…they took all of the best, interesting, thought provoking parts of the book and decided they didn’t belong in the movie?
The first seven pages of DADoES I was constantly remarking “oh this is an interesting thing to say about humans/robots/aromanticism-as-tied-to-robots”, and at that point I had to stop myself from making detailed notes so I could actually finish the book in a reasonable time frame. After BR, I don’t really have anything to analyze or remark upon except “they took all of the roboticism out of the allegedly robot movie, and now there’s no aromanticism either”.

Goodness, I love love LOVE this scene from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
youtube
channeling the english teacher within
The way this scene plays out is so magical and it captures so many emotions of not just the characters but also the audience - US.
I get so emotional watching this scene every time it comes up in the movie.
The choice of music is stellar - the overall vibe and tone colour of the song “In Time” already creates a hopeful, optimistic and joyful atmosphere, which are among some of the things Bill and Ted themselves represent as characters. And then as the future council recognise Bill and Ted - “it’s you!” - the lyrics kick in and with the air-guitars coupled with the lyric “the time is almost here” is *so* symbolic and foreshadowing Bill and Ted’s legacy in the future. Not to mention, the council members remove their glasses - showing their disbelief at meeting Bill and Ted. And it can also be argued that them removing their glasses is like how people remove their hats when meeting royalty as a sign of respect.
And then the musical begins the swell as more future people arrive, it shows how truly important Bill and Ted are to this community. The fact that all the characters remain silent and plays air-guitars without a word further reinforces their deep respect and reverence for the boys.
And GEEZ the music
When the future people fill the room, with the lyrics “our dreams will all come true” and “cause I can see…for miles, and miles” AGAIN THE PERFECT SYMBOLISM AND FORESHADOWING. And the way the music heads towards it climax for the chorus too, just as the people start doing their air-guitars with Bill and Ted in the centre, creates something so immensely and emotionally powerful.
And MORE LYRICS, which is now PERFECTLY EMBODYING BILL AND TED’S FUTURE:
“In time, we’ll be dancing in the streets all night” - “In time, yes, everything will be alright”
This is the most excellent and powerful part of the scene. Everything that’s happening at this moment builds onto the idea that Bill and Ted are (or rather, WILL BE) the most important people in history. We see this through the characters, and especially the pre-established council members (who we have perceived as people in power, so seeing them show their respect for Bill and Ted implies to us Bill and Ted’s importance).
Furthermore, we feel the power of this scene with the brilliant choice of music and the way it is placed. If the song and lyrics were placed in any other way, it wouldn’t be able to achieve the same result.
And the reason why this is such a great part of this scene is because as the protagonists, we root for Bill and Ted, and seeing this play out in their honour makes US feel HAPPY for THEM. Even though at this point we won’t know the outcome of their report, seeing this gives us hope that things will turn out good for them.
And now: Bill and Ted themselves.
As the people were doing the air-guitars, the camera pans in on them and zooms for a close-up. We see how Bill and Ted are confused by the scene before them, and this is so beautiful for this scene because they don’t realise how important they truly will be. And they never figure that out until Rufus told them so at the end of the movie (with a brilliant callback of the song btw!).
And then they drop their iconic line, the entire basis of the future society, without even knowing its importance and simply make it up on the spot - this highlighting how Bill and Ted were always destined to be the great people they are known to be.
I love this part of the scene because it’s a perfect message for everyone.
We will never know how important we will truly be.
This scene is inspiring because we see these two characters, who are portrayed as silly and “stupid”, become these figures of peace and harmony simply by following their dreams and being themselves. So, why can’t we? Why can’t we also be like Bill and Ted, achieve our dreams (whatever they may be) and make a name for ourselves?
This scene is truly beautiful.

I'm strapping on my clown shoes to say a thing I really appreciate about Rolin's interviews and the ways he talks about responsibility and accountability in the context of iwtv is that it feels, to me, focused on the idea that people who have been marginalized and pushed into corners are still people, making choices. and an essential part of personhood (and I would say with respect to Claudia and Armand in particular also adulthood) is the dignity of having the agency behind those choices respected and acknowledged. Including when those choices are harmful or selfish or shortsighted. and I think this is such a delicate area because it's so easy to cross the line into victim blaming and bootstraps but if they can stick the landing I will appreciate it so much.

So many types of books that have strong summertime associations that I spend all my time cycling through cravings for certain genres or books.
Within the last month, I have wanted to read/reread:
Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery
The Electrical Menagerie by Mollie E. Reeder
Valiant by Sarah McGuire
Retellings in general (especially Cinderella retellings)
Golden Age mysteries, especially Josephine Tey and Agatha Christie
The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart
Books set in locations that are not America or England, especially warm climates
Books set in wintery/cold weather settings
Science fiction/space opera
Superhero stories
Civil War history/Presidential history
D.E. Stevenson books (and other mid-tier vintage light fiction)
Wilkie Collins books
Graphic novels
And I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting
