Evidence Locker is a Mystery/Horror visual novel currently being developed by… ME!

Evidence Locker follows a detective named Mason as he investigates the missing person cases in CrestHill, a town with a horrible secret.

In the concept demo, set to release by the end of 2023, you follow a young woman tying to find her missing brother. The concept demo is a much smaller scale version of the demo and is meant to showcase the concepts for the final release. This includes multiple endings, a shop system, morality and alertness stats, relationships and an Evidence locker which you can use to file through any key items found in game.

The game is currently being developed by myself using renpy in my free time and is a passion project. The demo will be free to play and the final release will be “name your price” (free or paid)

YouTubers specifically but of course people generally really think they have a realistic grasp of what the police and the court system "would" do in various situations that completely obliterates their ability to realistically judge allegations of wrongdoing and informs a huge amount of basic ignorance about people doing bad stuff IRL. watching some video idiot saying "well if the police had these kinds of allegations on file they would have arrested him immediately" which is just never true. and I mean you find out it's not true if you have even tertiary exposure to any facts about any famous criminal case, all of which are wall to wall documents of either outright police misconduct or simple incompetence. it's odd. for example if you watched a fictional movie that was staged identically to how things actually went down at the Ramsey household crime scene you would be scoffing that the filmmakers must know nothing about police procedure because it violated every basic crime scene preservation rule that exists, which unfortunately is actually what happened irl and what usually happens. I'm not sure what's so hard for everyone to understand about "cops are stupid and lazy and do not actually do 'their jobs' unless forced because solving crime and protecting people are not their real jobs and they know it"

I think that the truth about gun control, for better or for worse, is that it is both impossible, unethical, and dangerous to pursue.

1. Yes, gun violence is dangerous, tragic, and often preventable.

2. Firearm creation and acquisition is fundamentally impossible to prevent, and has been since the discovery of gunpowder as a mechanism of projectile propulsion. As technology progresses it will always become easier and easier to access firearms.

3. Any and all hitherto attempts at gun control have been biased, whether intentionally or not, and have resulted in marginalized groups targeted by police violence, and disproportionate armament of white supremacist and other similar groups

4. The potential for organized violence against a governing body by the population they purport to represent is not a tool to be thrown away lightly, and legislated disarmament involves, by necessity, armed enforcement of that legislation, either police or military, which will result both in unjust and imbalanced enforcement of those laws as per the last point, as well as a disarmed and functionally powerless population while armed groups enforce the status quo, a state monopoly on violence.

5. Shootin someone is already a crime, if someone intends to hurt people, and especially if they plan to die at the end, as many of the perpetrators of these acts do, the threat of illegal firearm charges on top of charges for murder simply won't stop them. If someone wants to hurt people, they will find a way.

My question is, why are we addressin violence by targetin specific vehicles of that violence rather than the material conditions that drive people to violence in the first place?

Unethical and sensationalized reportin on mass-shooters inspires copycats, unchecked alt-right radicalization inspires hate crimes, inaccessibility of resources, whether food, water, shelter, medical treatment (including mental health), or money for any of the above leads people to things like robbery, gang violence, or violent mental health crises. Illegality of drugs leads to exploitation and violence throughout their production and distribution, so on and so on and so forth.

Gun control is fundamentally harmful and impossible. It simply will not work, and any attempts have and will disproportionately target, harm, and kill marginalized people. The only option left is to address the material conditions that lead to violence.

it is my feeling that true detective season 1 could've been improved with the addition of a dance montage and I don't mean like the scene at the longhorn in 1.03 it should've been completely gratuitous and served no importance to plot events. Like think the dance scene from The Breakfast Club but it's rust and marty dancing around rust's empty apartment like wild men drinking and hyping themselves up to go on the iron crusaders mission
