Oh Jesus the YouTube wrapped shit is so embarrassing
(I donât pay for streaming services so all the music I listen to on there (with ads) is silly stuff that I didnât think was worth paying for - most of the actual music I listened to this year is other stuff downloaded to my phone)

Macklemore???? How? Why? Did I listen to thrift shop on repeat for seven hours and get amnesia???
#I swear to yall if I paid for streaming and didnât just relisten to the same songs I bought on iTunes in 2015âŠ#this is the problem with not paying for streaming services#I have no evidence that my music taste is actually mostly normal#and not a 2013 time capsule#YouTube wrapped#and then yeah the gaming shit#thought it would be more smosh games than dan and Phil#but whatever#dan and phil

In The Nearest Exit May Be Behind You, originally published 2009, Bear Bergman was (and had been for a few years) using ze/hir pronouns for himself. (He now uses he/him, but I felt like that may still be a useful reference point.)
Hi there! You wouldn't happen to have any record of neopronouns being used in online circles (like forums) in the late 90's and early 2000's, would you? I've heard that some neopronouns, like "ze" / "hir" and "xe" / "xem", were used in some online circles around that time. I'd love to have some sources to include in a mega-post I'm making about neopronouns. If you can help me out in any way, I'd be eternally grateful! :)
i don't but i'll put this out there in case someone else does! and PLEASE share the link to this post when you're done, i'm so intrigued.
#trans#my sense--and this is interesting to me--as someone who entered trans circles online and off in about 2012#is that pre-'Trans Tipping Point' (c. 2013) ze/hir and variants were more common as gender neutral pronouns#while they/them's total dominance of the gender neutral pronoun space (lol) really became apparent post-Tipping Point#idk none of this is based on like empirical evidence of any kind#but was the sense that me and a few friends who came out in the years around me had

they have a point though. you wouldn't need everyone to accommodate you if you just lost weight, but you're too lazy to stick to a healthy diet and exercise. it's that simple. I'd like to see you back up your claims, but you have no proof. you have got to stop lying to yourselves and face the facts
Must I go through this again? Fine. FINE. You guys are working my nerves today. You want to talk about facing the facts? Let's face the fucking facts.
In 2022, the US market cap of the weight loss industry was $75 billion [1, 3]. In 2021, the global market cap of the weight loss industry was estimated at $224.27 billion [2].Â
In 2020, the market shrunk by about 25%, but rebounded and then some since then [1, 3] By 2030, the global weight loss industry is expected to be valued at $405.4 billion [2]. If diets really worked, this industry would fall overnight.Â

"[Latest] Global Weight Loss and Weight Management Market Size/Share Worth." Facts and Factors Research. 3. LaRosa, J. March 27, 2023. "U.S. Weight Loss Market Partially Recovers from the Pandemic." Over 50 years of research conclusively demonstrates that virtually everyone who intentionally loses weight by manipulating their eating and exercise habits will regain the weight they lost within 3-5 years. And 75% will actually regain more weight than they lost [4].

Doctors became so desperate that they resorted to amputating parts of the digestive tract (bariatric surgery) in the hopes that it might finally result in long-term weight-loss. Except that doesnât work either. [6] And it turns out it causes death [7], addiction [8], malnutrition [9], and suicide [7].

Studies have observed that about 30% of so-called ânormal weightâ people are âunhealthyâ whereas about 50% of so-called âoverweightâ people are âhealthyâ. Thus, using the BMI as an indicator of health results in the misclassification of some 75 million people in the United States alone [20].Â

While epidemiologists use BMI to calculate national obesity rates (nearly 35% for adults and 18% for kids), the distinctions can be arbitrary. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health lowered the overweight threshold from 27.8 to 25âbranding roughly 29 million Americans as fat overnightâto match international guidelines. But critics noted that those guidelines were drafted in part by the International Obesity Task Force, whose two principal funders were companies making weight loss drugs [21].

In one case, Daniel, a Palestinian man who worked for the Catholic church, was threatened by an individual on Facebook who said he had evidence of his homosexuality. âwe know that you are a f* you disgrace Christianity and Palestinians with your disgusting nature and I will expose you for what you really are,â the user wrote. âIâm gonna tell the whole world that you are gay and that you are a danger to the children of this society. you are disgusting and you will never get anywhere because I will stop you,â he added. Daniel said the only way someone could have known of his sexuality is if they had monitored his search history. (Drop Site News has changed his name to protect him from retaliation.)
Over the decades, numerous investigations have exposed how Israeli intelligence targets LGBTQ+ people. In 2013, Vice published an investigation detailing how the Palestinian Authorityâs preventative security forces, under the direction of the IDF, had isolated gay Palestinians from their communities, kept files on them, and exploited them for intelligence. In 2015, news reports revealed that a surveillance technology company run by a former Unit 8200 official had helped provide Uganda with malware allegedly used against LGBTQ+ activists.
remember tho that israel is a safe haven for the gays

In 2013, Joe sent a dm to a recruiting analyst for scout.com, asking which camps he should attend because he was flying under the national radar.
Most four star recruits get about 20 college offers. He had 12.
At Ohio State he sat on the bench for three years, only gaining attention as a scout team player who would later have to graduate in three years just so he could transfer and get some playing time elsewhere.
That same scout team player would become the best player in college football and a Heisman trophy winner and the number one pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. A few years after that fateful private message to Dave Burk.
Robin Burrow had been there the entire time. Through every shining moment and the times that seemed rather dark. She drove two hours to do his laundry just to make sure he was physically and mentally healthy when he lived in Columbus, has attended every game since he began playing sports, made him snickers salad when he tore his ACLâŠand when he tore his scapholunate ligament in his wrist. All in all, sheâs been a constant presence in the midst of all of the mayhem. To be frank, thereâs nowhere else in the world sheâd rather be than between him and anything that could possibly serve to harm him or cause him any pain, no matter how old he is.
That included protecting him from himself.
The last few months had been filled with joy. After the news of his engagement, the wedding planning process had been smooth. You and Robin along with your mom, had gone to several appointments together and Joe had even added his input in most of the details without you feeling like you had to twist his arm and force him to participate.
You were now in the home stretch of the most important day of your lives. Less than two months from now youâd be saying âI doâ to the love of your life. And Robin had taken her role as future mother in-law very seriously. You knew that Joe was a mamaâs boy, his brothers much older than him with their own mom, and it was clear to anyone with eyes that he was Robinâs pride and joy. But not in a creepy way that would get them to star in a TLC show. It was just very evident that she was proud of him and his achievements and that she didnât mess around when it came down to business.
After one of your dress fittings, she pulled you aside. âThereâs one quick thing I need to mention to you. Youâll be getting a formal document in the mail in the next few days. Nothing huge, just a formality that Peter and the team drafted up for you to sign. I hate the word prenup but thatâs essentially what this is.â She said in a matter of fact way. âWe just need to make sure to dot our iâs and cross our tâs if that makes sense. Get the boring stuff out of the way so that we can focus on showering you and Joey with our love on your special day.â
âNo that makes complete sense, just send it over and Iâll sign whatever you need me to. Thank you Robin seriously, for everything. Youâve made planning this entire thing a breeze.â
She shakes her head with a genuine smile, giving you a warm hug. âThis has been an honor, Iâm so happy for the both of you sweetie. Iâll see you in a few days for brunch at your house? The kids are so excited they wonât stop talking about it.â
âYes absolutely, I canât wait either itâs been so long since weâve gotten both families together itâll be really fun.â
There werenât many opportunities for your family to interact with Joeâs and vice versa, unless everyone met at a football game but that wasnât exactly quality family bonding. That felt more like a collective screaming match where the adults pregamed with beer and the kids wore his jersey. Most of them didnât really know what was going on in the actual game. So you and Joe were going to host both sets of parents, all of your siblings and their kids in order for everyone to really spend time together before the wedding.
A few days later, you were finalizing the menu with the catering company when Joe came home.
âItâs gonna be like Cheaper by the Dozen in here tomorrow,â he notes, grabbing a Body Armour from the fridge. âAre we sure weâre ready for this?â
âWe kinda have to be. Should we do smoked salmon or shrimp crostinis?â You held up one of each and let him examine them. He snagged the salmon one first and took a bite then did the same with the shrimp.
âDefinitely the salmon. What time is everyone getting here?â The catering people jot down their last notes and head out the door after you and Joe thanked them.
You could tell he was going to need time to mentally prepare in case he got overstimulated. âTheyâll be here at 1pm, so you can probably get an early workout in and take a nap afterwards,â walking over to him on the other side of the counter, holding his face in your hands. âI know you get cranky when youâre tired and Uncle Joe needs to be at his best tomorrow because the kids will need a QB for their flag football game.â
He wraps his arms around your waist, sticking out his lips that are begging to be kissed. You happily grant his wish, pressing your lips against his, giving him a quick smooch. He asks for a few more, about to get lost in a full make out session when a stack of papers on the counter catch his eye. Joe pulls back so abruptly that your face smacks against his chest.
âSorry baby,â he cradles your head, reaching around you to grab the piece of paper thatâs on top. You take that as your cue to go after his second apology for nearly giving you a concussion. That chest is a brick wall.
The more he skims the words, the tighter his grip gets on the little sheet and the confused look on his face deepens. âUmâŠwhat is this?â
âWhat is what?â You give him a look that matches his energy.
He holds up the paper. âThis. What is this? Where did you get it from?â
You look around the room to make sure you arenât getting Punkâd. âWaitâare you being serious?â
âDo I look like Iâm joking,â it wasnât a question. Heâs legitimately starting to look upset. âWho gave this to you?â
âJoe,â you let out a dry chuckle, âyour mom did. Said it was a formality and that I should sign it and give it to her so she can hand it off to Peter so your lawyers can process it.â When your fiancĂ© continues to stand there motionless in the middle of the room, thatâs when it hits you. âDidâdid you not know about this?â
He usually has something to say about everything, so watching him silently shake his head is a little scary. Joe places the first page of the prenuptial agreement on the table with a heavy sigh, visibly trying to compose himself. The man had the patience of a saint, known to have blow ups on the field but that was Football Joe. Off the field Joe was calm and rarely ever let things get to him. Youâd probably only heard him yell twice in the entire time youâve been together. And now he was dead quiet. You didnât know what to do with that.
âJoe, your mom is just trying to protect you. Get this out of the way so that we canââ
âPlease donât try to defend her right now,â his tone was laced with venom, a seething anger you hadnât seen before and werenât too keen on getting familiar with. âI donât like that this was just drafted, printed and handed to you without my permission. She and Peter shouldnât have done that. And my mom definitely shouldnât have ambushed you with this.â
Now he was being dramatic. âRobin didnât ambush me! She told me a couple days ago and I thought you knew so I didnât mention it.â
âI would never do that to you,â he says with a pain in his voice that makes your chest clench. âWE, you and I should be talking about this. Not my mom and Peter. Jesus.â He rested his arms on the counter, running his hands through his hair.
You hated seeing him get worked up like this, crossing the room again to place a comforting hand on his back. âWhy donât you talk to her tomorrow, Iâm sure she didnât mean to upset you. She most likely just thought she would do this for you so you didnât need to worry about it.â
âThatâs the thing, this isnât something she should be doing for me. Weâre getting married. Youâre going to be my wife. Thereâs no reason she needs to be handing you documents on my behalf like youâre some fucking stranger. I donât care how âbusyâ I am. You come first.â You can feel the tension in his muscles even when he stands up to his normal height. Heâs really trying to keep it together, giving you an empty kiss on the cheek before heading into his office to cool off. An hour later you head up to check on him, assuming he has his headphones on and canât hear you, you find that the door is locked.
Tomorrowâs brunch is going to be very interesting to say the least.
Joe surprised you by being in bed by the time you came upstairs to get ready to go to sleep. You thought for sure heâd be on a run to clear his mind. As soon as you climbed in next to him he put his phone away, wrapping his arms around you and giving your body a squeeze.
Whatever private meeting he had with himself must have done the trick because he was actually letting you be the big spoon for once. His touch was soft and intentional, the previously icy aura was liquified and only warm and cuddly Joe remained. âAre you okay?â You asked him and he nodded without looking at you. He just interlocked your fingers in his before sitting up.
âSwitch me.â You knew the little spoon wouldnât last long. âThatâs better,â he sighs kissing your head, feeling at home with your arm draped across his waist.
After a few seconds of silence he mutters, âIâm so sorry this is happening. Are you sure you want to sign up for a lifetime of this?â
You look up to meet Joeâs gaze to see if heâs trying to be funny. âA lifetime of you? I canât think of anything I would want more. The rest of it is just extra, the good and the bad. As long as I have you I donât care.â
His shoulders sag once again in relief, âgood.â Joe peppers a few kisses on your neck, making his way up to your jaw, taking his sweet time until he got to your lips. A joyous hum leaves his mouth as the kiss grows deeper, each swipe of his tongue against yours makes you feel dizzyâŠlove drunk. Nothing compares to the way that Joe kisses you, sensually careful but hungry at the same time, almost as if this is the last thing heâll ever get to do. This kiss is different, itâs a promise to always protect you, to never let the outside noise sway what his heart knows is true. Heâs found the one person in the world that consistently makes his heart sing and no oneânot even his momâwill have the final say. And he was going to make that very clear.
When Joe sluggishly came down the stairs the next day rubbing his eyes after his nap wearing a hoodie and cargo pants, you were just thankful he wasnât in sweats.
âHi there Sleeping Beauty, Iâve already gotten a few texts that most of them are about five minutes out.â
âGreat,â he grunts, parking himself on the couch, âIâm starving,â he scoots around trying to subtly adjust himself.
Joe stares at you , running his hand down your thigh. âHungryâŠfor food right?â You give him a pointed look.
âYeah, yeah for food. What did you think I meant?â He laughs as he catches the pillow you launch his way and scoot far enough away that he canât grab you.
âDonât. Today really needs to be a stress free day. Can you promise you will be nice and not yell at your mother?â And with that statement he is no longer in the mood.
âI will not yell at my mom,â he crosses his arms over his chest with a scowl only like a youngest child could. âCanât promise Iâll be nice.â
Before you can negotiate any further the doorbell rings and your first guests arrive. Nieces and nephews come running in, suffocating you with hugs and the youngest one tugging at Joeâs legs demanding to be picked up. Less than 30 minutes later the entire backyard is filled with kids playing tag, drinking juice boxes while the adults enjoyed the appetizer spread.
Joe wasnât making it blatantly obvious that he was mad but he wasnât exactly hiding it either. He kept the greeting with his parents short, keeping his distance throughout the afternoon focused on entertaining the kids and playing the perfect host.
âI just realized I never asked,â Codie, one of Joeâs sister in laws speaks up. âWhere are you two going for your honeymoon?â
âBora Bora! I canât wait,â you respond, topping off her wine glass.
His brother Danâs ears perk up. âWe were thinking about going there for an anniversary trip. Are you guys staying in a resort?â
Joe shakes his head, âI got us an underwater bungalow. The view is supposed to be insane.â
âYeah I bet,â your dad notes.
âTake lots of pictures,â his dad adds in.
He waits for a second taking a mental note of his momâs silence throughout the conversation, nudging you to make sure that youâre on the same page. By the time everyone was gone you needed something stronger than wine. Robin and your mom insisted on helping you clean up but you let them know that the caterers were coming back to grab everything. As you bid your family goodbye and thanked them for coming, your mom whispered in your ear, letting you know that the man inside was a keeper. You responded by telling her you intended on keeping him.
Once the door was fully closed you could breathe a sigh of reliefâŠuntil you heard Robin ask Joe what was going on with him.
Here we go.
Joe didnât respond. He just went up to his office and came right back down with the prenup in hand. âCare to explain?â
âOh,â she looked rather unfazed, âPeter and I thought thatââ
âAnd thatâs where you went wrong,â Joe interrupts, voice surprisingly even. âYou and Peter donât get to âthink.â You donât get to do whatever you âthinkâ I need. You have to ask me.â
You can tell sheâs visibly taken aback at how this has gone. âIt was not at all my intention to go behind your back. Youâre just very busy and now with wedding planning and everything else, it just made sense to get it put into place so youâd have one less thing to worry about.â
âMom, I get that. But you crossed the line here. Iâm an adult who wouldâve liked to have a mature conversation with the person I am going to marry about a topic that is extremely uncomfortable for everyone. It is not your job to play the middle man here. There is no middle man. This is between y/n and I.â
The tension in the air was getting a little too thick for your liking. You stood next to Joe, running your hand down his arm trying to diffuse the situation as much as possible. âOkay I think youâve made your point. Robin, I am not at all upset with you, this can all be resolved ratherââ
âI am upset with you mom. There was no reason to hand over that document without at least giving me a phone call,â Joe counters, starting to stand in front of you a bit like heâs physically shielding you from her.
âNow Joey I donât think your mom meant any harm,â Joeâs dad speaks up seeing his wife almost in tears. âWhy donât we all just take a breather here.â
You nod in agreement.
âIâm so sorry, to both of you. In hindsight that wasnât the best way to go about it but like you said this is uncomfortable. I thought keeping it casual would remove some of that awkwardness and I just made it worse. I really am sorry.â
Joe still seemed unmoved but you really didnât think she needed to apologize this much. He just told her he appreciated the sentiments but that she needs to recognize thatâs heâs an adult, telling them goodnight and immediately heading upstairs.
Youâre left to walk them out alone, giving them both hugs goodbye. âHoney Iâm so sorry,â Robin states again, âI never want you to think that I donât love you or that I was intentionally going behind Joeâs back. I was just making sure we have all of our bases covered so we arenât sweating the small stuff on your big day. I hope you can forgive me.â
âYouâre totally fine, I understand. And I agree. I think he just got a little freaked out at the reminder that his life is abnormal. He wants things to be simple and sometimes they just arenât. That probably stressed him out a little. Or a lot.â
It feels good to leave their tense interaction with her smiling. Even though it didnât reach her eyes like usual, it was still a small step forward.
âHow can you not be upset about this?â Joe asks after brushing his teeth.
You focused on what was going on at your sink, taking your time to complete your skincare routine. âBecause I see where both of you are coming from. You have every right to be angry at her for doing this behind your back. But at the same time I understand why she feels like she should get a jump on protecting your assets.â
âProtect my assetsâŠâ he scoffs, ââŠfrom you? Whatâs mine is going to be yours.â He hands you a towel after you wash your face, having memorized the steps at this point.
âYeah ok, legally. But your accomplishments and accolades are yours. Thatâs how you got here and your mom saw all the blood, sweat and tears that went into you being in the position you are today. She may have overstepped a little but youâre still her baby at then end of the day and sometimes itâs hard for them to recognize that they have adult children who are fully capable of making their own decisions.â He grabs the moisturizer off the counter and places it in your hand as you laugh, whispering thank you. âMy mom has done the same to me, not to this extent obviously because weâre in completely different tax brackets butâthey just want to make sure weâre okay no matter what.â
Joe leans against the counter, deep in thought. Growing up with his dad coaching it was usually just the two of them, she drove him to basketball and football practices and tournaments, took him to school and worked the entire day at school and came home still ready to dedicate all of her time to him if he asked. âI was too harsh wasnât I?â
âA teeny bit? Maybe? I do thoroughly appreciate you looking out for me though. Going to bat for me against your mom of all people.â
He shrugs, giving you a hug from behind, resting his chin on your head. âShe protects me so somebodyâs gotta protect you. Thatâs what Iâm signing up for and I promise to always take that job very seriously.â I should put that in my vows, he tells himself. He leans over a little more to press a kiss against your temple.
âIs that a promise?â
âThat is a promise,â he holds out a pinky, making you gasp as you turn around.
âIsnât a pinky shake you and JaâMarrâs thing?â
Joe looks at you sheepishly, smiling so wide his eyes crinkle. âI wonât tell him if you donât.â
You lock your pinky in his, kissing the smile off of his face.
That night before he went to sleep, he texted his mom telling her that he loved her. You gave them privacy when she came over the next day, smiling and hugging it out so you assumed everything went well. You hoped to have open communication with your kids even as adults one day, but did not envy the journey that your parents were constantly navigating. This once tiny person you created and had to make sure to teach them everything was now not only getting married and had established their own life but in Joeâs case everything was heightened. Sheâs been there through her son being the overlooked player who Urban Meyer said threw like a girl to now if he so much as has a paper cut an entire city of people, a whole fanbase is worried and asking for minute by minute updates on his condition. You couldnât imagine the whirlwind that must be.
So you were going to sign that prenup whether Joe liked it or not.
âWe need to decide on bridal party gifts,â Joe suggests a week later. âI was thinking about getting the guys customized golf carts. They could be delivered straight to their houses after the wedding or I could have them dropped off the day we get and they can drive around the property whenever they need to get somewhere? What sounds better?â
âIt sounds like youâve had this very specific plan and just couldnât wait to make your big announcement. How am I supposed to compete with that?â
Joe laughs, grabbing his water. âYou can give them all Cartier bracelets, have the wedding date engraved on the inside. Thatâd be pretty cool.â
Cool and expensive. âDonât do that, I can actually hear what youâre thinking.â Curse him for knowing you so well. âWeâre only gonna do this once, might as well do it right. Make it a great experience for everyone we love.â
âFine. Youâre right. But we are not doing an ice sculpture then.â He gives you a blank stare but says nothing, both of you know that itâll be coming back up sooner rather than later. âThere is something else we need to talk about though.â
He rolls his eyes, deciding this is the perfect time to get up and put his plate in the sink, like you canât just follow him. âWe really donât have to do this.â
âOh but we do. Joe seriously weâre gonna have to figure this out. Itâs important.â
He lets out a deep breath, looking up at the ceiling before putting his eyes back on you. âIâm just uncomfortable with any conversation that plans a breakup. I donât ever want to breakup.â
âThen letâs not breakup and we wonât even have to worry about any of this. Weâll discuss the details, Iâll sign it and weâll never talk about it ever again. Deal?â
You place a hand on his cheek and he kisses the inside of your hand before he speaks. âDeal. I canât wait to marry you. Even got a countdown on my phone.â
âThatâs probably the single most adorable thing youâve ever said.â He pulls his phone out to show you a countdown app with a timer down to the hour the ceremony is supposed to start. A picture from your engagement shoot is set as the background. âI canât wait either. I love you, so much.â
âI love you more.â

"The worldâs largest hornet, an invasive breed dubbed the âmurder hornetâ for its dangerous sting and ability to slaughter a honey bee hive in a matter of hours, has been declared eradicated in the U.S., five years after being spotted for the first time in Washington state near the Canadian border.
The Washington and U.S. Departments of Agriculture announced the eradication Wednesday [December 18, 2024], saying there had been no detections of the northern giant hornet in Washington since 2021...
âIâve gotta tell you, as an entomologist â Iâve been doing this for over 25 years now, and it is a rare day when the humans actually get to win one against the insects,â Sven Spichiger, pest program manager of the Washington State Department of Agriculture, told a virtual news conference.
The hornets, which can be 2 inches (5 cm) long and were formerly called Asian giant hornets, gained attention in 2013, when they killed 42 people in China and seriously injured 1,675. In the U.S., around 72 people a year die from bee and hornet stings each year, according to data from the National Institutes of Health.
The hornets were first detected in North America in British Columbia, Canada, in August 2019 and confirmed in Washington state in December 2019, when a Whatcom County resident reported a specimen. A beekeeper also reported hives being attacked and turned over specimens in the summer of 2020. The hornets could have traveled to North America in plant pots or shipping containers, experts said.
DNA evidence suggested the populations found in British Columbia and Washington were not related and appeared to originate from different countries. There also have been no confirmed reports in British Columbia since 2021, and the nonprofit Invasive Species Centre in Canada has said the hornet is also considered eradicated there.
Northern giant hornets pose significant threats to pollinators and native insects. They can wipe out a honey bee hive in as little as 90 minutes, decapitating the bees and then defending the hive as their own, taking the brood to feed their own young.
The hornet can sting through most beekeeper suits, deliver nearly seven times the amount of venom as a honey bee, and sting multiple times. At one point the Washington agriculture department ordered special reinforced suits from China.
Washington is the only state that has had confirmed reports of northern giant hornets. Trappers found four nests in 2020 and 2021.
Spichiger said Washington will remain on the lookout, despite reporting the eradication. He noted that entomologists will continue to monitor traps in Kitsap County, where a resident reported an unconfirmed sighting in October but where trapping efforts and public outreach have come up empty...
âWe will continue to be vigilant,â Spichiger said."

âââââââââââââââââ
Laura hated school. She had never gone to school before and she was fine, but after Logan and you had taken her under your wing, you put her in a school for her 'education'.
The only thing she needed to be educated in was survival. She hated sitting in a chair for hours, trying to keep still so she wouldn't get scolded. She hated the dumb questions teachers asked, their dumb faces while they got frustrated that the class didn't understand. And She hated math.
But most of all?
She hated that Logan had to pick her up every damn day. Not because of Logan himself or because she wanted to prove that she could walk home on her own, but because every time Logan stepped foot into the classroom to get her-
that one teacher wouldnât leave him alone.
Her name was Miss Dover. She was pretty, blonde, and always smiling way too much when Logan arrived. She touched his arm, she laughed at things he didnât mean to be funny.
And Laura?
Laura wanted to throw her backpack at her face. Or get her claws out, but Logan didnât allow her
Logan already regretted agreeing to pick Laura up every day after the first time he had done so. Of course not because of Laura, but because of Miss Dover. Today was no different. The second he stepped onto the school grounds, surrounded by students who reminded him of the old times in the mansion, there she was.
âMr. Howlett!â she called out to him in a too friendly manner, flipping her hair over her shoulder to show off. âRight on time, as always.â she smiled and to Logan, it looked like it hurt. He sighed. Here we go.
He only grunted in response, crossing his arms. Donât engage. Keep it short. Get out.
Miss Dover, of course, ignored all of that. And she was in no way repelled because of Logans clear lack of interest in her. âYou knowâ she started, biting her lip as she looked up at him, âI think itâs so sweet that you take the time to pick Laura up every day. A lot of dads just send a babysitter. I find that very admirable and...amazingâ
Logan barely kept himself from rolling his eyes. âWell, sheâs my kid.â he deadpanned. He was supposed to pick her up from school, so he did. It was the bare minimum, no need to make a fuss over something that was so self-evident.
Miss Dover beamed at him even after his discouraging answer. âThatâs wonderful! A family man.â Logans eye twitched at that. He needed to get Laura and leave. Now.
Laura watched them from the steps of the school entrance, arms crossed over her chest, her pink glasses sitting on top of her head. She glanced at you, who stood beside her, smirking. Logan had begged you to come when he picked up Laura so he could prove to you how persistent and stubborn that one teacher was when it came to flirting with him.
âShould we save him?â you asked the girl beside you. For the record, you weren't jealous. Why would you be? You knew Logan loved you and didn't have eyes for anyone else, if anything, you were pretty amused by his misery. Laura shrugged at your question. âHe deserves it.â you snorted a laugh, she had a point âYeah, but we need him in one piece."
With a sigh, Laura slung her backpack over her shoulder, slipped down her sunglasses so they covered her eyes and marched towards Logan. Miss Dover was still going on about something, being awfully handsy while Logan was so obviously uncomfortable, when Laura reached them. She grabbed Logans sleeve, pulling at it. âCan we go now?â she asked Logan, paying no mind to her teacher. Miss Dovers eyes softened and she let out a coo âAww. Looks like someone is eager to get home with Daddyâ upon her words, Laura stared at her with an unreadable expression. Then, very clearly, very loudly, she said:
âHe is marriedâ
Miss Dover blinked. Logan groaned but was silently relieved. It wasnât the way he thought Miss Dover would find out, but in the end he was glad. Laura pointed directly at you as you approached from the steps. âTo herâ
Miss Dovers smile dropped as she followed to where Laura pointed. You, meanwhile, finally stepped closer, grinning. âHiâ you greeted cheerfully with a wave, slipping your arm around Logans âIâm his wifeâ you confirmed with a nod. And judging by Miss Dovers expression, you knew she thought you didn't fit into the family, that you didn't even look like Lauras mom, that you looked way too young and you were overall not a good match in her opinion. You could tell she was about to gossip over this in the teachers lounge. But you couldnât care less.
Logan exhaled in relief as he felt you settling beside him. Miss Dover turned red. Out of embarrassment or anger, you couldn't tell. Probably the latter. âOh, I...I had no idea-" she stammered, averting eyecontact and taking a step back, her hand playing with the fabric of her skirt.
âYeahâ Laura said flatly. âCan we go now?â
Logan didnât wait to answer her. He turned on his heel and walked away, practically dragging you and Laura with him. The three of you walked to his truck in silence. Logan ran a hand down his face as he threw Lauras backpack into the car. âFinally" he grunted as he sat down behind the steering wheel.
You laughed at him âShe really doesnât get the hint, huh?â you noted. Logan twisted the key, rubbing his temples while he drove out of the parking lot. âI swear, next time-â
âNext timeâ Laura interrupted from behind âyou are sending her to pick me upâ
Logan frowned, looking through the rear-view mirror at her âWhy?â
Laura buckled her seatbelt âBecause then she will know you are taken for real. She probably thinks this was a joke or something"
You laughed at that, leaning against Logan. âSheâs right, you know. That woman looked like she wasnât believing her ears when I said I was your wife. You said she was being persistent, I donât think she will take this seriouslyâ you chuckled, giving his rugged cheek a kiss. Logan sighed defeated "Yeah, yeahâ he answered, putting a hand on your thigh while rounding a corner. âMaybe next time, you pick her upâ
You grinned, laying your hand over his. He was a little tense. You knew why. He didn't know if you were jealous, maybe you were a little mad but didn't show it. "I'm not jealous, if you think that. Not at all"
Logan raised an eyebrow. Then he looked at you - really looked at you. At the way you fit so perfectly against him. At the way your eyes sparkled with mischief, teasing him. At the way your hand rested over his, like it belonged there. And when he turned his hand to grasp yours tightly, he was holding his heart in his palm. Yeah. You weren't jealous. Because he was yours. And you were his. And nothing was ever going to change that.
Not even when Laura stood in front of Logan a week later, her arms crossed, staring him down despite him clearly towering over her.
âYou have to comeâ
âNo, I donât.â
âYes, you doâ
Logan sighed, rubbing his temples. They had been at this back and forth game for like 10 minutes now âWhy?â he grumbled. âBecause itâs career dayâ Laura answered flatly.
He gave her a look that said he cursed the way she was just as stubborn as him âYeah? So?â he muttered lowly and shrugged. Laura huffed and rolled her eyes. âSoâ she said, already looking exhausted over the argument âeveryone has to bring a parent to talk about their jobâ
Laura really wanted him to come. Mostly because she was always the black sheep in her class when it came to telling stories, showing emotions and just simply existing. She was different than the other kids, and after what happened to her, she had every right to be. The others picked on her more often than not and while she wanted to let her claws speak for her, Logan had strictly forbidden it. So all she could do was listen to them. It was draining. She just wanted to be normal for once.
Logan knew that, yet he scowled, picking up a can of beer from the fridge "Tell âem Iâm dead.â he said between chugging down the bitter liquid.
You were sitting on the couch and as you heard their conversation, you couldn't help but snort.
Laura didnât blink, unfazed âYou have to come.â
Logan glared down at her, hating just how much she was like him. He was about to tell her to fuck off and go to her room, but he sighed âKid, no one wants to hear me talk about drivin' a damn limo.â
Laura shrugged at that, turning on her heel. âToo bad.â she said. And just like that, Logan lost the argument.
And thats how Logan found himself sitting at the front of the classroom, arms crossed, scowl in full force. You stood at the back with a few other parents, your eyes fixated on him. It was fun, seeing him so annoyed. But it also warmed your heart- he sat next to Laura, sitting way taller than she was, his long legs barely fitting under the table. The two were bickering, poking each other back and forth before Laura leaned her head against his shoulder, his arm around her securely. He was it for you. Yes, you were married, but you'd marry him again in a heartbeat.
There were parents that had already gone before him. Firefighters, doctors, a lawyer. A police man sat down in his seat again after his presentation. And now it was Logans turn.
Great.
With a grunt, he stood up, slightly limping over to the blackboard. He could already feel the judgy stares of the other parents. Laura gave him a small thumbs up, and so did you.
Miss Dover, the teacher yes, that one, smiled at Logan âAlright, Mr. Howlett, why donât you tell us what you do for a living?â she cheered.
Logan exhaled slowly.
"âŠI drive a limo.â
Silence.
Some of the kids blinked. A couple of parents exchanged unimpressed glances. Then one kid raised his hand. âLike⊠for famous people?â the young boy asked, looking a bit intimidated by Logans frown.
âSometimes.â Logan grunted as an answer. Another kid raised her hand, bolder and more confident than her classmahe âWhatâs the coolest person you ever drove?â
Logan grimaced at her question, but what was he supposed to do? âA drunk guy who puked in my backseatâ he replied, looking at his feet while silence spread through the room again. Miss Dover cleared her throat, the tension in the air was awkward âOh! well, uhm..does your job have anyâŠexciting parts?â she stuttered out, the eyes of the other parents resting on her as if to ask: why the hell did you allow him to come?
Logan stared at her, the question heavy in the room. Did she really want him to tell a bunch of ten year olds about the times he got into fistfights and gun battles with passengers?
ââŠNot reallyâ he muttered.
From the back, you smiled. You knew exactly what was happening. Logan wasnât embarrassed about his job, nor did he care about what these people thought. But he cared about Laura. And right now? He felt bad that her dad was a limo driver while other kids got to brag about firefighters and surgeons and stuff.
Your chest ached.
Because he didnât get it. Laura didnât care about any of that, she just wanted her dad.
Miss Dover clapped her hands, her cheeks red in slight embarrassement. âWell, letâs open the floor for more questions!â she welcomed the classroom.
Big mistake.
A mom from the third row, blonde, red lipstick, way too interested, raised her hand âSo, Mr. Howlettâ she started, smiling too much, âdo you work long hours?â she nearly purred. Logan tensed a little, rubbing his beard ââŠI guess.â
Another mom, brunette, twirling her curls around her fingers in a flirty manner, leaned forward. âMust be tough coming home late all the time. Bet it gets lonely.â
You bit your lip, amused, but also a little sorry for the kids that had to witness their moms shamelessly thirst over another kids dad. Laura rolled her eyes and Logan scowled âIâm not lonely.â
The blonde mom giggled, biting her bottom lip âYeah, I bet with me you wouldn't beâ she purred. Jesus, what as up with these women??
Logans jaw clenched in annoyance. He didn't understand how these women could just full on flirt with him while their children were there. Besides that, he, Laura and you had arrived later than everyone else and he had kissed you before sitting down, surely they noticed that? Apparently not, not even the obvious ring on his finger seemed to catch their attention.
You, meanwhile, just waited. Because any second now-
âHeâs married.â Laura deadpanned, her arms crossed, saving him yet again.
The brunette mom blinked âOhâ she mumbed, her face burning red. The blonde mom hesitated. "really..?â
Logan, already done with everything, just pointed at you in the back of the room. Every head turned and in any other situation, this would have you highly uncomfortable. But you just grinned. âHi Ladiesâ you greeted them. You walked forward to the blackboard, smiling at the way their jealous stares bore into the back of your head. You could tell the women were fuming over the fact that you bagged such a handsome man, but Logan knew only you could truly appreciate him. "We should try and advertise our marriage" you giggled.
Logan grumbled, wrapping an arm around your waist protectively. You smirked up at him, fixing his loose tie âMaybe you should start to wear a sign.â you teased him even more. He rolled his eyes at you âShut up" he mumbled, but his grip on you tightened. Because you were his. And he wanted to show that.
You didn't even wait for the other parents to have their turn at presenting their jobs. You just took Laura and went out of there, walking back to Logans truck. âThat was hell.â he sighed, letting himself fall behind the wheel with a grunt.
You laughed as you closed your door from the passenger seat, slipping your hand into his âYou survived"
âBarely.â
Laura climbed into the truck behind you two, buckling her seatbelt âNext time, Iâm bringing herâ she said, pointing at you. Logan frowned at that, the engine purring to life âWhat, so she can brag aboutâŠwhat? Painting? Making fun of me?â he grinned smugly, making you want to wipe that smirk off his face.
You returned the grin âI could have given them a whole presentation on how sexy my husband is.â you hummed, leaning in close to his face, your noses touching. Logan chuckled, the sound rich in his chest "Oh, yeah?â he muttered gravelly, leaning in to give you a deep, wet, noisy kiss.
Laura made a gagging noise.
You pulled back with a laugh and Logan turned towards the road as he started driving, a satisfied smile on his lips. You glanced at Laura in the backseat. âSo?â you asked. âWere you embarrassed?
She blinked at your question, her brows furrowed, making her look so much like Logan âWhat?â
You gestured toward Logan next to you, then looked back at her âThat your dad is a limo driver.â you stated simply, matter of factly. Lauras frown deepened, like the question itself was stupid. âNo.â she said flatly.
Logan glanced at her through the rear view mirror, his brow cocked. "That right?â he asked her, feeling a soft smile creeping onto his lips. She shrugged, looking out the window. âYou pick me up every day. You donât talk too much. You donât smell weird. Youâre fine.â
Your heart swelled and you aww'ed at the two. "Great review, kid.â Logan huffed, but you knew he was feeling proud inside. Laura pulled a juice box from her bag and for a moment, the car was silent.
âBetter than the other dads.â
Logan swore his heart just did a giddy flip âYeah?â he asked, as if he had just heard her wrong. Your expression was soft as you looked at him, your hands curling around his.
Laura nodded wordlessly. And just like that, Logan realized it didnât matter what he did for work, what he had done in the past. It didnât define him entirely. Because Laura?
Laura was just happy he was her dad.
