"luffy has never been wrong once in his whole life ever, actually" -me, a person who's perfectly aware luffy has consistently been completely wrong more often than he's ever been even just partly right
#i just reread the fight with usopp i have thoughts and feelings okay#not too long ago I read someone say that luffy was as wrong in that fight as usopp was but honestly? no he wasn't#he was right he was correct he didn't do anything wrong#when you reread the beginning of op in a row like this you really notice this I'm telling you#everything luffy goes through is to make him a better captain#until the time skip i believe but I'll be sure once i get there again#but yes#keeping vivi so long on the crew fighting people in a leader position even foxy's games#it's all to make him understand what it truly means to be a good leader#right before the fight with usopp iceburg tells luffy he should be ashamed to act like that as a captain#then usopp gets hurt and luffy makes his choice#he thought about it and he was Right#he acted like he did to appear sure and reliable but he was hurting and he did say as much#usopp was the only one of the two being unreasonable I'll die on this ill#taking that choice and fighting that fight was one of the most captain things luffy has ever done#he was!!!!! right!!!!!!

First Date!
Straw Hat Crew (+ Mihawk + Koby) x GN reader
CW: None
Mihawk:
You had no idea swordfighting could be romantic until Mihawk invited you on a raid with him.
Mihawk really just wants to impress you with his swordfighting skills.
His eyes are on you constantly, making sure you're watching his every move.
He's both testing himself and proving his skill to you.
If his distraction gets him injured, he's not skilled enough to be worth your time.
"Keep your eyes on the fight, or do you want to get yourself killed?"
He's lying; he loves having your eyes transfixed on him.
He makes sure your distraction doesn't get you injured, of course.
Luffy:
Luffy says he's taking you to the best restaurant in the city.
You've never been to this town before, so Luffy follows his nose and takes you to a big, fancy restaurant.
The food is terrible, but maybe you've become a bit of a snob after eating Sanji's cooking every day.
"What's wrong? Are you not hungry?"
You end up visiting about six restaurants before you find a little hole in the wall with incredible food.
Luffy eats a full meal at every restaurant no matter how awful the food is.
He doesn't pay, instead leaving an I-owe-you at each table.
Your date ends in a fistfight with the staff at the last restaurant for this exact reason.
Sanji:
You expect your first date with Sanji will be a romantic candle-lit dinner made by the man himself.
Wrong. It's cooking lessons.
Sanji's touching you almost constantly throughout the whole date.
His hand covers yours as he guides you through chopping onions, his arms come around yours to carefully flip the steak so you don't burn yourself.
He's also praising you constantly.
"If I didn't know better, I'd say you were holding out on me."
In the end, the date is a romantic candle-lit dinner, but you cook for Sanji and not the other way around.
And if you happened to burn the meat by accident...Well, Sanji will insist your cooking was divine either way.
Nami:
Sanji is only too happy to whip up tangerine tarts for the evening.
Nami picks a tangerine from the tree and you play a few of her childhood games with it.
You play catch, you toss it between each other without touching it...
The tangerine is bruised by the end, but you're both smiling, and you just peel the tangerine and share it anyways.
Nami shows you how to make a windmill from tangerine peels, and then you round the night off on deck with some stargazing.
"...We should do this again sometime. I had a lot of fun."
Zoro:
You have been dropping hints for weeks that you want to go on a date. And he's been entirely unreceptive.
"I'm gonna take a nap."
You want to strangle him.
One day you start to wonder why he always gives you a look when he goes for his naps.
And then it hits you.
He's been asking you out on a date this whole time, the only way he knows how.
His face lights up when you suggest the both of you take a nap.
"I thought you'd never ask."
You spend your date napping together in the hammoc.
Oddly, you realize you learn an awful lot about someone by sleeping with them.
Usopp:
Your first date with Usopp involves sitting with him while he regales you with the Totally Realistic Adventures of Captain Usopp.
He gets so animated, climbing and jumping and making sound effects and everything.
You adore watching him.
When you quietly ask him to tell you the story of that fishman he defeated, he gasps and launches right into the most enthusiastic story yet.
"Yeah. It was pretty cool, if I do say so myself."
Bonus!!
Koby:
Fancy, high-end restaurant.
You barely speak a word the entire time.
Koby's terrible with keeping up a conversation, but you share each other's food and make a lot of awkward small talk.
When Koby tells a joke that gets a laugh out of you, he looks genuinely surprised.
He smiles then, and the conversation starts to flow more easily.
It's fairly boring, as dates go, but you want to go on another date and so does he.
"I...I had fun. This was great, really."

Red String
IMAGINE: RED STRING ~ LUFFY X READER GENRE: FLUFF cw: soulmate au! luffy is a bit ooc. *************
The day when a red string attached itself to his left pinky, he didn’t really care for it. Luffy didn’t have time for finding his soulmate, or even having time for a soulmate. He had a mission- to become the King of the pirates.
Most of the time he ignored it. However, when he was bored he would tug on the string, swing it around, or try to tie it to things. Sometimes he would get annoyed that the string wouldn’t come off.
Most days, he doesn’t even realize that it’s there.
Until one day, the string tugged, and tugged hard. Tugged so hard that it jerked his hand downwards.
This has never happened before, and he was confused as to why it happened. What did it mean?
“You ready, captain?” His crewmate, Robin asks him.
He looked up at her, noticing that she was holding a bag on her shoulder. That’s right, they were leaving the ship. Going on an adventure on this new island.
Excitement fills his veins, and he only takes one glance at his left pinky before looking back at Robin with a large grin. The red string is now long forgotten and he is not worried by the slight movement.
However, Robin notices the glance that Luffy casts down at his hand. Robin is smart, and it didn’t take her long to figure out what he was looking at. She has seen Luffy play with the string multiple times. Granted, she couldn’t see the string but it sure looked strange whenever he played with air.
“Yeah! Let’s go!” He shouts before he jumps off the ship.
It isn’t long until the both of them were walking through town, looking for food since his stomach was rumbling.
Suddenly he got a whiff of something delicious. It smelled warm and sweet, he was immediately drawn to the source of the smell.
Luffy was soon standing in front of a small building. The windows were open, and it was clear that the source of the smell was coming from the small building. He bursts through the doors, ready to devour it all.
However, he stops short when he goes through those doors. The string on his pinky felt tighter and it was like his sight zeroed in on the person in front of him.
The person who’s hair was tied up, and out of the way. Wearing an apron over simple clothes that were lightly dusted with flour.
“Hi, welcome-” Your voice stops when you feel the tug on your pinky and your vision zeroes in on him.
You already knew what this meant, but for some reason this made you nervous.
You cough slightly, trying to ease any nerves that coursed through your body.
“Welcome, how can I help you today?”
Luffy blinks a couple of times, processing the words that you had just said. He didn’t know what to do in this situation. How were you going to react?
Robin tilts her head, looking at the two of you. A small smile makes a way on her face as she realizes what is happening.
“Can we have two of everything, please?” She spoke up and you were taken back. “Two of everything?” “Yes please.”
“Right! Of course.” You walk around the counter, starting to grab the pastries. “Oh, togo or for here?”
“Here, please.” Robin says with a smile and pushes Luffy over to one of the two tops. “Of, course. It’ll be out shortly.” “Thank you.”
“Are you okay, Captain?” Robin asks. “Huh? Yeah! Why wouldn’t I be?” Robin giggles, “well if I didn’t know better. I would say that person over there… is your soulmate.”
Luffy’s eyes widen, and a slight blush covers his ears. Was he being that obvious?
“Here we go. Two of everything.” Their conversation is interrupted when you bring them their desired pastries.
You lingered by the table, unsure of what to do. Should you say something? Make the first move? No, that’s too embarrassing.
“Uh, I hope you enjoy.” You mutter before scurrying to the back. You put a hand over your chest, trying to calm down your racing heart. Why were you so nervous?
Well you knew why you were so nervous. You always wondered what your soulmate would be like. You wondered if he was a kind person. Would he even like you?
You suddenly hear a shout. It wasn’t one of panic, but one of joy.
You peek around the corner, “is everything okay?” slight worry traced in your voice.
The boy looks at you with wide eyes and a large smile on his face, “these are so good!” He shouts holding up one of the pastries.
You smile at him, “thank you.” “Did you make these yourself?” He asks.
His question washes away the nervousness and you're soon making your way to him.
“Yes! I made them myself. It’s my own recipe, and I have more recipes I’m working on as well.” You start to ramble on, a little embarrassed because you tend to fangirl over baking. “Can I try them?!” “Of course! I would be honored if you liked them.”
Luffy starts to laugh, happy that you were willing to give him more of your delicious pastries.
However, it dawned on him that he wasn’t going to be staying on the island long. And he really wanted to try more of your food.
“You should join my crew then!” “Huh? You’re crew?” “Yeah! I’m gonna be the king of the pirates!”
You were silent for a while. Thinking about what you should do. You didn’t have any family on this island, and nothing wasn’t holding you back. Except for one thing,
“Well… I’m not strong enough to join the future king of pirates.” Luffy’s smile falters a little bit. Sure he needed his crew to be strong, but he didn’t really care if you were strong or not. He just knew that he needed you by his side.
It might be the fact that you were supposed to be soulmates, but the strong urge to have you by his side was just too strong.
“Don’t worry about that! You’ll always be safe on my crew.”
His words caused your heart to skip a beat. You didn’t know him, but you trusted the words that came out of his mouth. “Yeah… yeah, okay! I’ll join.”
Luffy’s grin is as big as ever now.
“Can I have the name of the future king of the pirates?” “My name is Monkey D. Luffy.” “(l/n)(y/n). It’s a pleasure to meet you.” You say with a slight bow of your head.
Luffy looks down at his pinky, seeing the red string now tied in a bow. He looks over to your hand, seeing the same thing. He never thought this day would come, but he is happy that it finally came.

can you PLEASE write some fluff/comfort for your angst Luffy writing? 😫 i wanna give him forehead kisses and cuddles PLEASE
(it was amazing btw!!!)
Anon I know what you asked for but imma make this a series and giving this to yall next time, but life has been interesting (derogatory) since the beginning of February 😋
Pt 1 not your fault
Tags: angst, hurt/comfort, like one mention of blood, no harm tho its used as an expression, please know it's okay to ask for help sometimes, mention of skipping meal.
Wc 1.3k
It's been some time since you found him crying, the only immediately noticeable change is Luffy seems to be more aware of you and touch you than before. Maybe that's why he noticed your disappearance today. The reason why he's noticed every flinch within the last week, the tears that started to well up but didn't fall when you dropped a teacup, trying your best to laugh it off as Sanji and robin assured you it was okay. The moment of deep breaths after any loud sounds, Luffy swears he saw your soul leave your body when Usopp and Franky started to try something new with Sunny's cannon. Zoro was there to notice the last one too joking about you being jumpy, your captain surely noticed you becoming quieter after that moment.
So when he walked into your room without knocking, he didn't mind being hit in the face with the pillow you threw. Not knowing or caring who it might have been, only focused on the darkness of being hidden under the covers. You heard his footsteps come closer as he tried to figure out where your head was. When it was located he sat down and pulled you into his lap. Not bothered to move the plush fortress you are surrounded in. Being so close to him helped, your body relaxed at the contact, not knowing how much you may have needed the connection.
"You missed breakfast, Sanji said you missed dinner as well."
Knowing this isn't exactly about the missed meals, while he is worried about that, it's more so the fact that you haven't left your room. Being one of, if not the most, cuddly members of the crew seeing you spend so much time alone was jarring to him. After all, if Luffy had a problem he came to you. So why couldn't you do the same, was he the problem? Is someone else on the ship? What could be disturbing you so much?
The worst part is if you were honest, you didn't have a clue. You had just been feeling wrong, completely off without reason. Now that your captain has found you alone and distressed, it only makes the tangles and knots in your gut feel worse. Guilt plagued you as you didn't have to see his face to know that his wide eyes had been staring down at you for any movement, for any symptom that you could be getting better or worse. For any kind of response really, he just hopes it's not more remorse. When he does finally feel you move it's a good 30 seconds of trying to get one hand out of the blanket before you're tugging him closer. There's the feeling of his arms wrapping around your body as his heartbeat can now be heard through the thick blanket. You're not sure how much it helped but it definitely helped the tears stuck in your eyes finally fall.
You feel yourself starting to shake as a voice in the back of your head tells you you're being dramatic. You have no clue what started this ache, with him here you can't push it down till it goes away like you were trying to do. It bubbles up and slowly consumed you, not able to pinpoint whatever emotion this is all you can focus on is how overstimulating everything is. You can't concentrate on his heartbeat anymore, you can hardly breathe. Choking on the first sob before you feel it come up. There's nothing to hide, you're mental state is as scattered as paint across a floor. Desperate for something, anything, to ground you. Luckily luffy is still there, peeling the covers off from over your head, you're too trapped in it to notice that most of the movement isn't coming from you.
He's worried about you hyperventilating, the last thing he wants is for you to pass out at a time like this. You haven't even told him what's wrong yet. You helped him with him and he wants to do the same, he wants to solve it if he can. He made sure to take things slowly, not rushing to any conclusions, just being there in the moment. Seeing your face filled with tears made him want to jump into action. There has to be something he can do to get them to stop. All he could think to do was hold you close, going as far as to place the shank's hat on your head to see if that would help. Everything only made you sob harder.
The hand thought placed on his chest now balled into a fist gripping his shirt for dear life, the other wrapped around his shoulders so you buried your face in his neck. It's highly plausible the rest of the crew can hear your despair, as your captain Luffy would make sure you are not teased for this, just as he put Zoro through a mini hell for laughing at you days before. He wants to treasure you, you're the only one who lets him feel human, let him feel and express instead of hiding behind his smile. He's so lost in his thoughts he almost missed you speak.
"Thank you."
It's hushed and horse, no surprise as all you've done today is sleep and cry. But it's the only thing you can think to say. To your surprise, those two little words shocked Luffy. Why are you thanking him? He hasn't done anything yet? Were you just overwhelmed? Now he's just as lost in your emotions as you are. He really doesn't want to rush, nor does he know how to ask. Confusion is written across his face, he does reach one conclusion. Touch helps, he helped him, it was helping you, so what had you done that night that when you comforted him? He's brought back to the kiss you placed on his forehead, full of warmth and comfort, maybe the same would work for you.
Sheer embarrassment, terror, and panic flooded through your system as Luffy tiled your chin up towards his face. Causing more tears to well up and fall but he kisses them all away. Starting from where they would gather and fall off your chin he worked his way up one side of your face, kissing all the tears he could see and then the corner of your eye before moving to the other one. For the first time in days you smile, you smile, it's not faked, forced, or caused by nervousness. None of it, it's a real, genuine smile. It makes Luffy beam from ear to ear as he now sprinkled kisses anywhere he could reach. It makes you laugh, he's never been happier to hear the sound of your laughter. He'd kiss you forever if it meant you'd never be sad again. But he still had that nagging question in his gut.
"What made you cry in the first place?" He almost reconsidered the question when the smile immediately dropped from your face. Maybe he should have asked another day or basked in it a bit longer. "I- I don't know, I just- everything feels so-" Wrong, out of order, discombobulated. Like your heart has been thrown against a wall just to see the blood splattered. There's definitely a strong emotion behind this all but you're struggling to articulate it. Whatever it might be. "It's fine if you don't know, just tell me how to help, okay?" You nodded thinking, trying to get your mind out of the dark place that it currently resides in. The only thing that has helped so hard was him, his voice, his arms, the sound of his heart beating, his smell, his kisses, everything about Luffy rang with comfort there was nothing else you could want or need but him.
"Please just don't let me go."

I wonder if in the Au where Lullaby's bio father is Buggy. Does he rub in everyone's faces before they try to kill him?
When Buggy first got the news from Rosy that she was expecting and that he was the father, he took it very poorly. He had never once thought about being a parent, and now he's very abruptly being told that he is one. He accuses her of lying to him, he says that it can't be his, and he insists that he wants nothing to do with the baby to the point that Rosy actually stops trying to wring child support out of him.
But as time goes on, some cracks start to show. Buggy is a lot more quiet and lost in thought than usual. His mood is significantly worse and he flies off the handle at the slightest provocation. His crew assumes that he's still irritated over Rosy trying to get him to pay up, but then they notice a little quirk their captain has developed. Whenever they raid towns, he keeps pillaging baby supplies. Not a lot, but at one town he comes back with a couple of baby blankets, and then a onesie at the next. He gets flustered when it's pointed out and says that he grabbed these things on accident, but the excuse falls flat when he doesn't get rid of any of it.
After a couple of months, he finally breaks and really has to swallow his pride when he sends Rosy a letter (along with a hefty amount of treasure) asking about how she and the baby are doing. He is stressed the fuck out in the time it takes for her to send a response. He's terrified that he has completely blown his chance to get to know his kid and that she's going to tell him to fuck right off after how he acted in the beginning. But, much to his shock and relief, she doesn't. Rosy is happy to take his money let him be involved.
As time goes on, he becomes more openly excited about becoming a father. He has no idea what he's doing, but he's going to give it his all. The baby isn't even born yet and he is completely wrapped around their little fingers. All that he wants is to spoil his baby absolutely rotten and make sure that they will never doubt that they are their father's absolute number one priority.
And then Rosy seemingly ghosts him out of nowhere. He doesn't know what he did wrong. They had been discussing meeting so he could finally see his daughter in person, and he'd even been given a picture of newborn Lucia. Everything seemed to be going right, so what happened? It never occurs to him that something bad happened to Rosy, he just jumps to the assumption that she tricked him and made off like a bandit (which he's half right about). After all of this goes down, he becomes insufferable to be around. His temper has never been worse, and he flies into rages seemingly at random. All of the baby supplies he'd stolen get thrown overboard during one of these fits of rage.
The only thing he can't bring himself to get rid of is the picture. He will only take it out and look at it when he is certain that he's completely alone. He keeps wondering where his daughter is now. Is she happy? Is she better off without him and that's why Rosy started ignoring him?
And then it happens. When he's in Loguetown to try and take out Luffy, he sees Lullaby and it feels like the entire world stopped. That's his baby. He even takes out the picture to compare them, and then there is absolutely no doubt. His brain completely short-circuits from the shock of this revelation, and it's only made worse when Smoker appears and starts interfering. There are a million things he wants to say, but he can't get a single coherent sentence out.
When the Straw Hats manage to get away with his kid, he completely loses it. He was so close to finally having his daughter and then she slipped through his fingers. If his crew thought he was a nightmare before, they haven't seen anything yet. He has a one-track mind to chase after the Straw Hats and get his baby back to the point of ridiculousness. He'll snap at his crew for docking at an island to resupply the ship because all that he can focus on is the fact that his child is only getting further away with every passing second.
He knows next to nothing about Lullaby, but that doesn't stop him from bragging about her constantly and saying how proud he is to be her father. The other father candidates don't care for some clown pirate trying to claim their kid as his own, so this tends to backfire on him horrendously, but he never stops.

🫵 pointing at you...you should tell the rest of the world about the sea otters proposal....
not the big bird level threat in my inbox first thing in the morning😭 jfndkfjdsnf hi haaaaash hope you and your one piece husbands are doing well this morning. it's time for the sea otters exposure in the form of long form yapping though 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣
(oda is so sick for making these designs of ace at 40 and 60 and then never making sure he will never be using them in the canon. so fucking sick. bring my freckled husband back to life, you evil man TAT)
so for the context leading up to the proposal:
for the longest time in our lore, ace and i are actually common law spouses and don't officially tie the knot until we're 37ish
we get together when we're either 19 or 20, around 22 i break the ice and take the plunge in referring to him as my husband and we just go along with that for the rest of our pre-actually married relationship and mael accidentally comes along when we're 28 (yeah our kid was an accident ndfkjndkf) so we have a considerable amount of time just being common law spouses in our timeline
i guess during our early 20s, it just seemed impractical to get married because we were always on the sea? we're traveling across the grand line trying to live long enough to see luffy find the one piece, everyday is a new adventure with battles periodically and not to mention if we did have a wedding it would be very hard getting the certain individuals we wanted to be there physically present
when i got pregnant you would think we would have a wedding then but no our biggest priority was going back to dawn island for a few years so dadan could get to know to the kid we would we be having. and... unfortunately garp but that was ace's decision. i have a very 'if you want your grandpa around, that's your decision and i will respect it as your wife' mentality when it comes to garp because ace is a better person than me so yes garp does get to know his great granddaughter. after a few years when mael is a little older, we go back to sea and we are a happy little family of three with our larger extended found family with the whitebeard pirates, occasionally running into luffy and sabo and things like that
by the time we're about to marry, whitebeard has unfortunately passed away and ace is now the captain of the crew
the proposal itself:
i kinda just get inspired one day seeing him with our daughter and everything it took to get to that moment and i just want to put a ring on it
so obviously i have to go to my nigga wallace (which if you know anything about sea otters, he is my best friend from the spade pirates transitioned into the whitebeard pirates) and tell him the scoop because i obviously can't keep all this to myself and i need help figuring out ace's ring size. all i know for sure, is that i want to exchange vows with my best friend i've known for most of my life and i want it to be a private and intimate proposal between the two of us so i just say when we get to our next island 'hey, let's have a date night, someone on the crew can babysit'
and honestly the entire date feels very reminiscent of our time in sabaody and the feelings of nostalgia make me want to propose more than i already do. we're hitting up multiple restaurants, we're dancing as local musicians play their songs and then we're off to explore more of the natural sights before we're at some lake that's large and reflecting just about every star in the sky and laying against an oak tree like we're 10 again and back on mt corvo and that's when i know it's the moment
i probably have a whole speech planned that i ran through for weeks to make sure i would be able to recite perfectly and that shit just goes way out the window.
writing my thoughts down? i'm amazing
verbalizing it? poetic prose goes right out the window
i'm not an emotional person but i'm pretty sure i'd already be tearing up trying to even start the speech and at that point i'm just like 'fuck' on both knees like a fool and i just whip out the ring
but low and fucking behold, he pulls out a ring because plot twist he was planning on proposing too and he tries finishing what i can't but he's also got his own tears and snot running down his face, his hands are shaking and i'm trying to steady them not that i'm really helping because i'm a shaking mess too
but we do manage to pull ourselves together and exchange engagement rings
ultimately, we get the transponder snails and tell ace and sabo 'hey how long will it take for y'all to get to x location, we're getting married and we want you there'
ace has sabo and luffy both as his best men, i have mael be my maid of honor and in typical luffy fashion, he gets the entire island we're at jumping for a wedding where no local knows the bride and groom but we're all celebrating our asses off
#look she's answering#the homies#look it's self shipping hours#sea otters#flaming pearls#one piece#portgas d ace#i love how you came into my inbox and decided 'nyla is gonna have ace brainrot early this morning'#love you hash fjdsnfkjsdnf#ace and i really had our monica and chandler moment love that for us#flaming pearls (sea otters)

Vampire AU pt. 4
Vampire Law x Human Luffy
Law gets more ticked off ;)
Previous -> Part 3 Next-> Part 5
Luffy sat alone at the large dining table. The food was enough to fill him up, but it was not quite enough to satisfy his appetite. Something was missing. . . Sanji’s cooking. That’s what he’s been craving. There was nothing like his sweet and spicy glazed ham or his savory grilled lamb chops. Luffy picked at the peas on his plate, he had of course eaten all the meat, except for the sides. It’s strange, usually he devours everything.
Sanji would hate to see him play with his food, so he managed up the strength to eat all the peas. He gulped hard, feeling the hard little beans go down his esophagus. Luffy groans from the pain and slumps on the chair. He’s bored.
Hanging with the Heart Pirates was fun and all, but there’s nothing like his own crew. He wonders where they are. That wild storm caused him to go overboard, but luckily, he was able to hold onto a slab of wood from his ship.
He hastily gets up from the chair and lingers out to the halls of the castle. The place is vacant, Law told him to stay put as he had private matters with his crew. For the first time in a while, he feels homesick. Yes, sharing the place with the vampire was nice, but it doesn’t “scream” home. The Sunny, that’s his home, he wishes he could be on it.
“Okay, I don’t care what Torao says. I’m going outside.”
Luffy changed the course of his direction and goes through the back doors of the castle. He scans his surroundings before taking a step outside. He takes a deep breath in, enjoying the fresh air. This was better, it’s nothing like the warm sun hitting your skin.
It was time for an adventure, he had enough of that dark and gloomy place. Today's mission is to find that beast from the day he arrived. That weird looking creature chased him all around the island and it was time for payback. Maybe it will be worthy meal, something to makeup the unsatisfying lunch he had earlier. So, he embarks, entering the forest that Law specifically told him not to go in.
.𖥔 ݁ ˖౨ৎ.𖥔 ݁ ˖-`♡´-.𖥔 ݁ ˖౨ৎ.𖥔 ݁
An hour or two goes by, and Luffy has not found anything exciting. Vast lush vegetation is the only thing that surrounds him, it is beautiful of course, but it is not the excitement he is looking for. He sighs deeply and slumps over the grassy floor. His eyes trail the sky above him, the clouds move in a steady pace, crossing the never-ending blue field. Sky watching is not fun at ground level, his arm stretches to a tree branch, and he pulls himself up.
"Oh, you can see everything from up here," he says looking over the treetops. His eyes scan across the open view and spots a small mountain. "Perfect, maybe I can locate the beast from there."
In a jiffy, he swings from tree to tree to make it to the mountain. It didn't take long before he reached his destination. He escalates the rocky terrain and hears voices coming from the top. Luffy proceeds carefully, not wanting to be found. Using the bushes, he hides inside of them and peaks out to see the owners of the voices. To his surprise, it's Law's crewmates.
Penguin and Shachi are at the highest point of the island. Each held a pair of binoculars, watching the island at all angles.
“I wonder what gotten into the captain. He’s on high alert," Shachi says, removing the binoculars from his eyes.
Penguin does the same and sits down to take a small break. "I don't know either. Do you think Doflamingo might be on his ass?"
"I doubt it. He doesn't seem to be scared, it's something else. . ."
"Where is he anyway? I wonder what's he's up to with Bepo," Penguin groans, going back to watch duty.
"I dunno, he said something about loading the missiles on the submarine. Whatever he's doing, he is definitely going to demolish the ship he's awaiting."
Luffy sits quietly, he's an idiot, but the word ship caught his attention. He continues to listen to the conversation.
Shachi proceeds to take a 360 view of the island's coast. "Oh, incoming from the northeast," — he points in the direction of the object— “is that a ship?"
Penguin squints through his binoculars and tries to locate the possible vessel. Using the knob, he focuses in on the black dot, and he is able to distinguish a weird looking ship coming their way. "Well, looks like our duty is over. Call cap."
"On it." Shachi takes out his transponder snail and dials Law. "Captain, we have spotted ship coming fast from the northeast direction. We have not identified the vessel."
Luffy's ears perk up at the vampire's voice.
"Head to the sea. You know what to do."
"Roger that."
The two leave their spots and run down the mountain, leaving the binoculars behind. Luffy is intrigued by the so-called ship. He picks on of the binoculars and looks out to the location of where they spotted it. At first, he sees nothing, but with a bit of focus, he's able to distinguish the ship. He suddenly drops the instrument and sweat forms on his forehead. It has to be a mistake, he wouldn't dare. . . it's the wrong ship. It has to be.
Without a second thought, he runs down the mountain, following behind Penguin and Shachi.
“Hey!”
“Huh? What’s he doing here-"
Luffy tackled them both, rolling down the hard rocks that cover the slope. The three men crash by an old tree stump, with Luffy breaking their fall with his inflated body.
“Ugh, what’s the big idea Luffy?!” Penguin groans from pain.
“What are you guys planning to do with that ship?” Luffy's tone stern as he holds onto the collar of his suit.
“Woah, calm down buddy,” Shachi says, trying to pull the younger off.
“Answer my question.”
“Chill out Luffy, we’re just following cap’s orders. I’ll tell you if you let him go.”
“Fine," Luffy grumbles, hastily letting go.
“Look, cap wants us to sink any ship that comes in contact with the island. I don’t know what’s the threat is, but he’s serious about it.”
“Sink?!” He yells out.
“Hey, calm down.”
“How can I calm down if he’s planning to sink my ship! My crew is onboard!”
Penguin and Shachi look at each other in shock. That’s the reason why their captain wants to sink it, to leave Luffy without a crew. As cruel as it seems, Law can be rash about things. Finding love is something he doesn’t want to lose, but he’s losing it already.
“Shit.”
The two are not heartless like Law. Penguin nods at his crew mate, knowing what they have to do.
“Look we didn’t know that was he’s aiming for your ship. Maybe if we can talk to him, we can knock some sense into him.”
“So that was his plan along. . . I see now. . .” Luffy felt his heart sting a little. That’s the reason he didn’t want him going outside. He was going to kill his crew and wipe his shit under the rug. Now he’s angry. He won’t forgive him for this. “I’ll stop him myself.”
“Luffy, wait!” They call out for him, but it’s too late. He’s gone.
“This won’t end well. . .”
.𖥔 ݁ ˖౨ৎ.𖥔 ݁ ˖-`♡´-.𖥔 ݁ ˖౨ৎ.𖥔 ݁
“Bepo get the missiles ready for departure.”
“Law!”
He turns around. “Luffy? What are you doing here-" Then a cold hard punch to face knocks him to the sandy beach.
“Captain!” Bepo screams in shock. The rest of the Heart Pirates stop to observe the commotion. The polar bear was about to barge in, but Jean Bart stopped him. "Hold on Bepo, let them settle this."
The stunned vampire rolled to his side and wiped the blood off his lips. He looks at his bloody hand and back at Luffy. The straw hat’s eyes glare at him in fury.
“Why?” Luffy coldly states.
“Tsk. You didn’t have to hit me you know.”
“Why?”
Law glares at him before standing back on his feet. He grabs his sword and places it over his shoulder. His leopard hat covers his eyes as he stares at sand he stands on.
“Answer me Law. I know everything.”
“I won’t let you leave,” he mumbles.
“Well, I made up my mind.” He pivots away, marching off to find a raft to depart from the island.
Law grits his teeth and clutches onto the base of the sword. “Where are you going?” he voices out.
“Away from you.”
“No. I command you to stay put.”
Luffy stopped his tracks and turned around. “Over my dead body.” Stomping his foot on his ground, he hints for a challenge.
“Tsk. You really don’t know what I’m capable of Luffy.”
“Okay, show me what you got," he asserts, walking towards him.
His red eyes shift to Luffy. He smiles at him. “Well, if it’s a fight you want. . . I’ll give you one.” In a swift movement he takes out his blade and prepares for an attack.
As he goes to swing, a blade intercepts, throwing it off to the side.
“Why you.” The vampire growls, snapping his neck to face the person.
“Zoro!” Luffy jolts in joy and runs to his first mate, embracing him. “When did you get here?”
“It reeked of bloodlust. What mess have you gotten yourself into?” He says, his eyes not leaving the attacker.
The vampire clutched his hat in annoyance, watching his mate throw himself on the unknown man left a sour taste in his mouth.
“How dare you interject in our matter,” He spat out, throwing his hat on the ground.
“Uh, Luffy. . . who is that?” Zoro questioned, lifting his swords up for battle.
Luffy let’s go of Zoro. “Oh, that’s-“
But before he could answer Law created a room.
“Shambles.”
A boulder is thrown at Zoro, who easily dodges it.
“Oh, this is getting exciting. Hey slanky branch, pick up your sword and fight like a real swordsman!”
The two smirk, riled up from a strong opponent.
“Wait, guys-" Luffy tried to get their attention, but nothing is getting through them.
“I’ll slaughter you into pieces,” Law hissed out.
Zoro’s eye widened at the sharp fangs. “Vampire. . ?” He grins. “Perfect.”
Law used telekinesis to levitate his sword at him. He picks up a small rock, throwing up in the air and he grabs it firmly in his palm. “Get ready, I won’t hold back.” Then he throws it at Zoro and before he could blink, the vampire was right in front of him.
“Holy sh-“
He swings the long blade at him. Zoro easily counters it with his two swords. He blocks it with great force, being slightly pushed back. The two are repelled backwards, analyzing each other’s strength.
“Huh, I guess I will be needing Wado Ichimonji after all.”
“Zoro wait!”
“What?!”
With Zoro looking away for a second, Law takes his chance to strike him. He barely dodges the attack.
“Law stop it! Zoro stay back!”
Zoro grunts, hesitant to pull back from the fight. “Fine,” he huffs, putting his swords in the sheath.
Luffy stands before the vampire, who is clearly enraged. “What’s gotten into you?”
“Captain!” Bepo wraps his arms around Law, picking him up from the ground. “Control yourself. You don’t want to hurt your mate, do you?”
Law snaps out of his bloodlust and turns his gaze at Luffy. “Fuck, what have I done.” His mate’s eyes are sharp, but soften. He turns away and heads towards Zoro.
“Bepo what happened?” Shachi exclaimed.
The Heart Pirates surround their captain, confused at the chaos at the coast. Bepo continues to squeeze Law, holding him in place. That’s when they notice Zoro and immediately up their guard.
“Luffy do you know this guy?” Penguin says, holding a long sharp rod.
“Hm? Oh, he’s my first mate.”
“Wait like mate or crewmate?”
Luffy bursts out in laughter. “You guys are funny.”
Law gave a nasty glare at Zoro and on the other hand, the swordsman yawns, unsatisfied with the fight. The vampire tries to wiggle out of Bepo’s arms, but the bear continues to put up a fight. He could easily break out of his hold; however, he would lose self-control. Law forced himself to resist his violent instincts.
“Hey, Luffy!”
“Huh?” The straw hat whips his head to the sea. It’s his ship, docked near the Polar Tang. Usopp waves alongside side Chopper from the rails of the deck.
Sanji jumps out of the ship and runs towards his captain. “Luffy you’re alive! Zoro jumped into the ocean without warning as we approached this island.”
Zoro scoffed. “Unlike you I’m always prepared for a fight.”
“What did you say? At least I didn’t recklessly jump overboard without knowing the situation!”
The two bickered as another voice caught his attention. “Luffy!” The red head girl uppercuts him on the jaw and banged his head to the ground. “Where have you been?! Did you know how much trouble we went to find you?!”
“Oh Nami. . .it’s nice to see you too,” he whimpered out, dropping his face onto the hot sand.
Law felt himself twitch. How dare this woman abuse his mate. “Don’t lay your filthy hands on him,” he growled. His red eyes appear once again, the struggle to contain him collapsed.
“Um guys, help!” Bepo said anxiously.
“Luffy who is that?” Nami said jolting back.
Penguin dropped his weapon and ran to help the bear. “Restrain him!” he yelled. Shachi and the rest of the crew circle around him and try to hold the angered vampire.
Usopp and Chopper hide behind Robin on the deck of the ship. Franky, Brook, and Jinbe approach the scene, lost at the chaos unfolding on the beach.
“Woah, what did I miss?” Franky said, taking his sunglasses off.
Jinbe walked next to Robin. “If I’m not mistaken. . .we’re in deep trouble if they set him loose.”
“Yes. We must stay alert,” Robin says, squinting her eyes at Law.
The Heart Pirates do their best to restrain their feral captain. He snarls at them, his fangs drawing dangerously close at them. Zoro watches the scene and turns to Luffy, waiting for a command.
“Say, what’s the deal with all of this? I thought he wanted to kill you? Now he’s gone mad after Nami smacked the shit out of you.”
Luffy only sighs. “It’s a long story, but we’re mates.”
“Mates? We have a new crewmember?”
“Uh, not exactly. . .”
“Well what do you mean Luffy? I don’t understand anything, why is he coming after me? You better do something!” Nami yells at him.
Law finally managed to free himself and lunged towards Nami. Luffy quickly interferes and punches him the gut. He then proceeds to pin him down on the ground. “Get a grip Torao!” He grits his teeth, as Law grunts in pain.
The vampire breaks out of trance and calms down.
“Fuck. I forget how strong you are.”
Luffy continues to hold him down and sits on him. “Why did you attack Nami?”
“Nami? Oh, her. . . she was hurting you.”
“I’m fine. That’s just how she is.”
He only gives him an apologetic nod and turns his gaze away. Luffy sighed deeply. “Why?” There goes that question again.
“Huh?”
“Why would you sink my ship with my crew aboard?”
“Tsk, I knew you would leave if they came back for you.”
“That’s no reason to kill my crew!” he raised his voice. “We could have figured something out, but now. . . I’m not so sure. . .”
Luffy releases him from his pinned state and proceeds to get off of him. Law sits up and grabs his wrist, pulling him towards him. “Mugi. . . don’t go. . .” he whispers out. “I can’t lose you. I’ve lost too many people in my life. I-I’m sorry. . .”
“Torao. . ?”
The vampire doesn’t look at him, his face points down. His hand trembles around his wrist. Luffy can feel the shift in his aura, it’s dark. The feeling of sadness fills his heart. It’s grieving, the human knows the feeling too well.
Law feels a cold breeze brush against his exposed hair. Before he could lift his head up, something covered the top of his head. “Huh?” He feels for it and the rough texture catches him off guard.
Law looks up at Luffy, he no longer wears his hat. “You look good in my straw hat.” That smile, that kind gentle smile. It captivates him. Without realizing, his cheeks glow bright pink.
"Pssst, Penguin, Shachi. . . is he. . . ya know, blushing?" Bepo teases, pointing at their captain. The two men look closely and are taken aback at the scene. They giggle, "Oh my, he is!"
On the other side of the beach, the rest of the Straw Hats join their crew, puzzled by the captains' quarrel and make-up.
"Uh, you guys. . . did you see that?" Usopp said.
Sanji starred in disbelief. "Don't tell me he's with that man. . ." He takes a puff of his cigarette and blows the pungent smoke out his mouth. "Well, I'll be damned."
"Not only that, but he also gave him his hat. He must be someone special," Franky commented. The rest nod in agreement.
Jinbe inspected Law and turned to Robin. "He's a vampire, correct?"
"It seems so. Sharp fangs and violent bursts of anger accompanied by red-shot eyes. . . all describes a vampire."
Chopper and Usopp scream in fear and hide behind them. "V-vampire?! Will he eat us?!" Usopp says, shaking in fear.
"I don't know. . . vampires can have an insatiable appetite, depleting you dry," she says coldly. Usopp's face turns pale.
Zoro only cackles out loud. "I knew it," he grins, almost excitedly.
"Is he dead too? It would be nice not to be the only one," Brook laughs.
It didn't take long for Law to realize that they were being watched by both parties. "What are you looking at?" he growls at Penguin and Shachi, who were fangirling. He hides his face from embarrassment with the straw hat. Luffy only laughs and stretches his arm to grab Law's leopard hat. He places it on his head and turns around to face his crew.
"Oh, sorry for worrying you all this time. No need to be alarmed, Torao won't bite," he flashes a toothy grin.
The Straw Hats look at each other, having little trust with that statement. Their captain jumps on the vampire's back and comfortably sits over his shoulder. "We'll talk later Torao; can you just be nice to my crew for now?" Luffy whispers in his ear. Law grumbles but complies to his mate's request.
"Okay you guys, meet Torao!"
"It's Trafalgar Law," he mumbles under his breath.
Robin gasps, her eyes widen at the revelation. "Are you that Trafalgar Law, the Surgeon of Death, the newest warlord?"
Everyone turns their gaze at Law, who only rolls his eyes.
"Warlord?!" Most of the crew yells out.
Luffy looks down at Law. "What? I didn't know that, that's so cool."
Nami facepalms. "What's wrong with you Luffy? You were hanging out with this man and didn't know this important piece of information. What if he turned you in?"
"Torao wouldn't do that, he's my mate," he grins, wrapping his arms around his neck, almost suffocating him.
Everyone's mouth hangs open at the sight. No way would their captain, the Monkey D. Luffy, would ever date someone, especially someone like Law.
"Oh yeah, meet Law's crew. The Heart Pirates were very nice to me," he says getting off of Law's shoulder and attaching himself over Bepo's back.
Zoro slowly approached the vampire. Law noticed and glared at him. "What do you want?" he mutters with a monotone voice.
"Do you perhaps know Dracule Mihawk, you are a warlord after all."
"No, I do not. Is it because we're both vampires? That's ridiculous." Law intended to be smart about it.
The swordsman didn't take that lightly, but only gave him a grin in return. "Well then, you wouldn't mind finishing our fight. I am curious to see your swordsmanship. It would be good practice, you're vampire and a swordsman like Mihawk."
"Heh, you think I would be light work for you? Think again."
The two men sized each other, but before they could escalate things, Luffy got in-between them. "Torao, didn't I say to be nice?" Law huffed in annoyance and backed away. Zoro did the same.
"Come on Zoro, you can fight him another time, but only if I could join in."
"Fine."
Luffy hugged him and picked him up off the ground. "I'll give him the last blow, he's pretty strong ya know."
Law locked his jaw, not only were they planning on ganging up on him, Luffy seems very fond of that man.
"I'm pretty strong too Luffy,” Zoro snapped at him.
"I know," he grins.
Sanji, feeling left out, joins in. “Hey, I can take on that vampire too!”
“Shut it cook, I called dibs first.”
“Hey! Don’t talk about our captain like he’s inferior to Mihawk, in fact, you guys are not match for him,” Bepo exclaimed.
Zoro could only laugh at that statement. "As if, your captain is the bootleg version of Mihawk. You could say he's practically copying him."
The Heart Pirates become visibly angry. Penguin picks up the rod from the ground and points it at Zoro. "I would be quiet if I were you. Don't forget you're on territory."
The swordsman's face darkened.
“Yeah, you’re on our turf, so why don’t you back off,” Shachi said, throwing a rock at Sanji.
Sanji angrily kicks the rock back at him. “You’re telling us of back off?! Well, we’re not!"
The tension rises between both parties and Luffy feels uneasy at the situation. Law noticed how uncomfortable his mate looked and immediately turned down the bickering from both of their crews.
“All of you shut the fuck up! You’re upsetting my mate.”
Both crews face the angered captain and at Luffy.
"Sorry captain," the Heart Pirates say.
Zoro and Sanji only back away, returning to their crew. "Luffy, are you really okay being with this man?" Jinbe asks as the Straw Hat's eagerly await his response.
"I am," he says firmly.
Usopp and Nami were about to protest but were cut off from Zoro. "He said he is okay with it,"—he proceeds to head back to the ship— “I'll be taking a nap if you need me."
Luffy watched as his first mate departed to the Sunny and sighs, "Look, I know we all started on the wrong foot, but me and Law are together now. We have to find a way to get along."
The vampire furrowed his eyebrows. "Pirates do not get along."
"But Torao," Luffy whines, giving him puppy eyes.
There he goes again, enchanting him with those brown doe eyes, he knows his weakness. Law could only grunt, "Fine, but I don't promise you anything."
Luffy hugs him. "Thank you."
"So, what now?" Bepo stands besides Law and tilted his head for a response. The vampire looked at his crew and back at the Straw Hats. Great, more people. This was supposed to be his solitary paradise.
"Let's head to the castle. We'll figure something out."
"What, a castle?!" Chopper stoked in excitement.
Luffy cackled at this reaction. "Wait till see you what's inside. Come on, follow me."
The Straw Hats follow their captain, their eyes not leaving the vampire as they walked by. Law could care less about what they thought of him, he only cared about Luffy. Still, his mate will not be fond of him being rude.
"Tsk."
Law follows after them, with this crew already ahead of him. He takes one last look at Zoro, who watched him like a hawk. It would not be easy for avoid further confrontation, but something about the swordsman ticked his nerves. He put aside the thought and prepared to interact with the rest of the Straw Hats. His hell was about to commence.

Okay, I watched the live-action One Piece.
I actually don't hate it.
(Mostly.)
the things they did wrong
The fishmen. The makeup is really, really horrible. They went for "realistic"-looking skin and it just does. not. work. And the prosthetics are just bad. Really, really bad. Arlong isn't big enough. He keeps threatening to bite people but his mouth is so small relative to the rest of his face (especially because of said prosthetics) so you can't really take it seriously. It's just bad, y'all.
The den den mushi. Sooooooooooo creepy. The texture is awful and they need better puppetry.
The emotional moments don't quite hit it like the original story does. Each of my absolute favourite moments from the original have been changed juuuuuuuust enough to not give quite the same punch.
Luffy doesn't feel like Luffy. There's a very specific sort of whimsy that Luffy exudes and this guy just doesn't have it. To be fair! it is a very difficult thing to pull off! But it's also, like ... really integral to the whole story. He's got the wrong kind of smile and we never hear him giggle. He should be 100% guileless and he's just not quite there. Nami doesn't feel like Nami. She's not expressive enough, or bossy enough. She keeps trying to be the holding-everything-in-stoically type and that's just not Nami. She holds back as far as information goes, especially in the beginning, but her feelings are pretty much on her sleeve otherwise. Zoro's personality is off just a bit. He's just a bit too grumpy. We see him smile like twice. We never see him get really excited, and the one time he gets moderately excited he's still pretty stone-faced about it. Also, not letting him get genuinely happy about booze makes him come off less as really enjoying one vice and more just being a sad alcoholic. And he doesn't fully commit to the crew soon enough. He's the type to be all or nothing, so he needs to be all in from the get-go. Sanji can't do a French accent, which is kind of hilarious because he just sort of goes for An Accent and so he'll start a sentence with something that's, like, vaguely British? but then if the sentence is long enough he'll find Vaguely French halfway through.
Everyone is too old. Kaya is supposed to be 18 but that actress is in her 30s for sure. Even the kids are kids that are too old for the parts they need to play.
Except for Mihawk, who's a bit too young. Also his fake beard doesn't look great.
Some of the effects for things like Luffy stretching and Buggy coming apart. Again, tbf, this was always something that would be a problem in a live-action recreation, so it's only a minor annoyance. But there's definitely a couple of little things they could have changed that would have made a big difference in believability.
A lot of the crowd shots have a case of Main Character Syndrome. This actually helps the audience pick out important people at Gold Roger's execution, but it's kind of funny when you see Zoro among his classmates at the dojo or Nami and Nojiko with the rest of Coco Village and are like "HMMM I WONDER WHO THE MAIN CHARACTER COULD BE."
Trying a bit too hard to interconnect everything. They keep both Buggy and Arlong relevant for too long (Buggy by keeping him after his arc, Arlong by having him show up early). Garp being around for the whole show is sort of interesting and funny but it makes me wonder if they're even planning on getting to Water 7, and how they're gonna do that if they do.
the things they did right
Verbally acknowledging Zoro as the first mate. The original never dies that even though he totally is.
The wanted posters. They did a great job of recreating the posters, and the little effects they do overlaying them when they introduce new characters is fun.
Pretty much everyone's physicality. Especially Zoro and Sanji. They're very accurate to the original. Just the way Zoro stands and walks is 100% Zoro. Captain Kuro managed to be cool and creepy instead of looking stupid. Usopp's face is surprisingly spot-on.
On a related note, the fight scenes were well-choreographed. And there were a few cool shots where the camera followed someone who was jumping around.
Anything that can be a practical effect is a practical effect. It doesn't always pay off *cough* fishmen and den den mushi *cough* but it usually does, and I very much appreciate the effort.
Each arc is one episode long. 'Nuff said. Y'all know how long these damn arcs can stretch.
The Vibes. They did a really, really good job of making it ridiculous without making it ridiculous, if you know what I mean. A lot of that is thanks to the abundance of practical effects. A lot more is the lighting. They also had fun with camera angles and focus/blur to just keep things feeling not-quite-real in a way that helps rather than hinders the suspension of disbelief. They also made the show overall darker than the original, which I usually hate but in this case it really works: You can't take things like the Chop Chop Fruit or Zoro's penchant for cutting people up out of a cartoon and into a live-action without it automatically getting creepier, so leaning in to that was absolutely the right choice. It also kind of made Buggy's arc feel more real and high-stakes.
All the little details. There were a lot of them. All the characters are at least vaguely the correct nationality from Oda's Q&A tidbits. When Zoro is laid up, Nami reads him Liar Norland. You can see Mihawk's ship in the bay outside of Roger's execution. At one point you can hear "Binks' Sake" playing in the background. Just about every single costume was accurate to the original, and the sets were incredibly detailed. There are so many little details in every single bit of it that tell you that the people who made this were paying attention, and frankly that alone makes me far more inclined to forgive any mistakes I feel they've made.

1081 goes in about the direction I expected. We have all these break weeks with Golden Week (!) coming up and I kind of like having these big goofy hype chapters of the outside world. We really are getting some cool info on Blackbeard, Shanks, Garp & Admirals all rocking the stage. And here we go with one of those titles that immediately grab you. Just gonna say it too, how nicely would that prop up the omnipresent line of Blackbeard mirroring Luffy’s journey if we saw “Tenth Person” for anyone soon?
I’m guessing once we’re on a regular schedule we’ll be back to the lab again...but would not be surprised to see time has leapt forward a little. Remember the little napkin outline for a Kishotenketsu plot. We could start by seeing the big incident resolved before launching into a long flashback. We could see what looks like a truly dire outcome before doing the same. Or we could just advance to a night on the island with the situation devolved, knowing that a big incident is to come soon. Part 3, or ten, should be jarring and tonally different.
Okay fuck no. I know this chapter’s got at least one mutual all ready to take a trip to Japan for all the wrong reasons. Load up the buggy, get me grandpappy’s scattergun, we gotta correct a sitiation here consarnit. Do not mess with Hibari. Especially right when she’s being a cutie patootie. What is the big first takeaway the second we see this? It is now almost certainly Lafitte & Katarina Devon making their way to Egghead. That pair will be all about subterfuge so I’m heckin giddy. Kujaku being amazing makes up for the threat to my beautiful little lark (oh shit, that’s actually relevant to the Art NUE Kikuhime thing) and Prince Grus being fussy is pretty damn funny. The fight is cool, not much to say, but I do like we’re seeing this kind of flashback again. SWORD continues to endear me and that’s after spending fifteen years referring to Koby as “That little wiener kid.” Now with the star of the chapter:
Man is this scene hard to read. See, I could interpret it either way and both seem valid. Either Aokiji or Blackbeard is showing off a real knack for oratory skills. Kuzan being a SWORD guy through and through schmoozing to get in like Drake did for Kaido would probably act about like he would here. Or it could be Blackbeard showing off this hurdle to being a captain. I adore the little flair of him striking this Yakuza pose and showing respect. I can believe all four capabilities; either is putting on an act, neither are sincere, or both are. But it’s kinda like Law mirroring Brook’s recruitment with Jean Bart or Blackbeard doing the same echoing Jinbei in Impel Down. There’s a better way to say it, a better timing. Is that really all it was for Kuzan? Their conversation is right, he just sorta happened to fit in because he does have the right personality. Maybe something about Garp made his loyalties waver along the way or maybe Blackbeard just caught the right moment to poach a star looking for a new role.
But then of course, we have the tragedy. I wasn’t even a huge fan of the guy in particular but this one stung.
The Polar Tang was one of the best ships and I love me some Big Bad Jean Bart. Sulong Bepo coming in clutch with what I’m guessing was a Rumble Ball was cool as hell. Though Chopper...that was highly unethical medical practice dude. It’s okay since you’re cute and I guess a pirate doesn’t report to an ethics board so it’s okay.
Still, it reinforces how I felt about Kidd. This is the classic Kabuki virtue cause-and-effect. Big picture, this is why the Straw Hats trained for two years. But it also pertains to how they learned the lessons of Wano. Kidd potentially never really had to, there’s a nice overlap of Killer and Wano themes. Particularly some that line up nicely with precious flower Okiku. If he just learned to listen to that voice more he’d have been better off. If he’d just been less aggressive about going after everything in front of him he’d have been better off. Law? He’s more of the neutral step. He didn’t do anything wrong, but he didn’t make much of an active effort to take in Wano like Luffy did. He only just now started to gravitate towards understanding the big picture while Luffy’s had Robin on that since Sky Island. This one straight-up involves Kiku because Act 1 beats you over the head with it.
This is still my favorite one. But there are quite a few panels I could use. It’s the promise to Tama and it always caught my eye how beautifully Law & Kiku frame Luffy. You have the nice light/dark contrast immediately following Bakura Town. Both even have it a little internally with Kiku’s dark hair and Law’s hat. The way they’re carrying their swords even helps out. It’s all around this moment too, they’re acting a bit like the angel & devil on Luffy’s shoulders.
Really excited to see where the next leg of this arc heads.

I mean, I get where you're coming from but I don't think you're necessarily being fair in calling it 'unrealistic' or disingenuous to their characterization.
1) Zoro could absolutely add something worthwhile to WCI considering that it was Zoro, alongside Luffy, that got to him back at the Baratie. Seeing Zoro fight Mihawk - chasing his dream despite all reason - left a huge impact on him. This could have been mirrored in WCI by something like Zoro questioning him about if his dreams are really so easy to give up on. In the right hands, it could be a really good foil to the Baratie arc. Along with that, he knows just how far Sanji is willing to go for the crew, for *Luffy* via Thriller Bark. Him doing a 180 on WCI would be a cause for concern and perhaps even a reason for Zoro to see through the facade. Or Zoro being genuinely hurt by having the person he trusted to protect his back turn around and abandon them is also a good plot point to build on, and how this impacts his overall bond with Sanji, who despite everything he says, does value Zoro's input. Exploring the unspoken parts of their friendship is always welcome in fanfics!
2) Zoro is not blindly loyal to Luffy. He has in the past called Luffy out when he thought he wasn't acting as a captain should (Water 7 w/ letting Usopp come back scott free & Punk Hazard w/ yelling at him that they're in the new world and to take the fights seriously). He's not afraid to call Luffy out, it's just they more often than not are on the same wavelength - which isn't about loyalty per say but what is best for the crew as a whole. The crew comes first, not Luffy. Hell, he didn’t even have anything to say when Sanji kicked Luffy back in Water 7 right when he was about to reject Usopp.
3) Indeed Zoro isn't a very trusting person, but once the trust is there, he's generally pretty good about trying to consider all the angles when the person in question acts against it. You could see this in how he approached Nami and Robin's betrayals, keeping a relatively cool head. Melontee goes over it better in her video specifically about Zoro and Sanji's friendship. He's not one to jump to conclusions. Yes, Sanji does rile him up, but Zoro is smart where it truly counts.
4) Jumping off of that, the fact that Zoro seemed so miffed about Sanji leaving and was snapping at the others over it is out of character for him. It shows just how bothered and hurt he actually was compared to Nami and Robin. Because, despite their differences, Zoro and Sanji DO get each other. That's what makes them such a good team. Their ability to read each other and react appropriately does not end outside the battlefield. They just suck at communicating with words and like talking shit more often than not. But again, Zoro IS good at taking time to consider angles. He's not a wild dog who flies off the handle anytime someone hurts Luffy. They're the Monster Trio because they get each other! In different ways for each relationship, but all the same in the end. In a serious moment, I can absolutely see him being able to at least see through some of Sanji's lies.
It's a disservice to both their characters to claim they're actually incapable of having meaningful moments without combat.
5) And as for these WCI AUs being Out of Character, I frankly think it entirely depends on the writer. In the right hands, OoC moments are instead moments of character growth, an affect of the character being stressed in a way we haven't yet seen, or even character regression - where they fall back into old habits.
Along with that, I would argue that Nami in canon was kinda OoC in her reaction to Sanji beating up Luffy. She, of all people, should have been able to see through his actions or even understood Luffy's enough to trust him. She was there back when Luffy and Zoro took that beating at Jaya - this kind of non-aggressive reaction is not new of Luffy. Water 7 as well, with the fight between Luffy and Usopp, should have left her with a better understanding of how Luffy handles these things.
Instead, she lashed out and, arguably, made it harder for Sanji to return to the Strawhats. She basically confirmed his fears, that he wasn't welcome. Now, this is not hate or me bashing her, I do understand why she reacted the way she did and it is totally understandable considering how much she cares for Luffy. But that moment to me still feels out of her character. She wasn't trusting either Luffy or Sanji in that moment.
So, sure, Zoro might have complicated things further, but that's kinda the point of canon adjacent fics. To look at how canon could of gone if this or that happened. A flap of a butterflies wings and all that. Most Out of Character moments in fics are just badly written moments of attempted character development. Zoro and Sanji clearly have some sort of arc brewing in regards to the Death Pact so it's not unreasonable to see earlier progression by having him at WCI. Plus, Zoro is long overdue for a big character moment or having a breakdown of his own, lol.
For what its worth, I would have literally killed to have Robin and Usopp at WCI, my god that would have been so good. But that does not detract for Zoro also being a good addition. Like, c'mon, him hating sweets just to have him getting lost in a land entirely made of sweets, the comedy writes itself! XD
So, I mean, you're 100% entitled to your opinion, but these characters are quite multifaceted and can have surprising moments of progession.
I just came across a zosan post about Zoro on wci (again) and I have to say, you guys need to be realistic.
I love zosan, I really do, but Zoro on whole cake would have been a DISASTER. He wouldn't add anything to the story—he'd make things worse if anything. Zoro's not a trusting man, and he always puts the captain first. There's already so much tension between the two; even though they do actually like eachother do you really think Zoro has the emotional capacity to be considerate in that scenario??? Absolutely not. They would 100% end up fighting which would just complicate everything.
If anyone else should have been there, it's people who'd understand where he's coming from. People who've struggled with feeling like unnecessary weight to the crew and left because of it. Yes I'm talking about Robin and Usopp. Water 7 and Enies Lobby are arcs that make Sanji really shine in the crew as the one always chasing after the ones leaving, so wci paralleling that would have been absolutely perfect. (This has been said a lot before but it's TRUE and I will defend it to the end)
If you truly love zosan, maybe focus on scenes they already have??? Or things that actually could have happened—like, them reuniting on Wano after wci has a lot of angst potential. And it's a much better scenario than Zoro actually being on wci in my humble opinion. It just works so much better with their characters...
Take the personalities of characters into account when you're making ship content. Fanon only thrives when it's built on canon.
#just my opinion at the end of the dag#day*#yeah there are fics that have them being too soft or weirdly accepting#but that doesn’t mean the premise itself os the problem

With an S/O that doesnt cry, Cries.
With (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Law, Kid, Ace, Doflamingo)
Warnings - Slightly suggestive, swearing, !fem reader
|Luffy<3
"Why...is Y/n crying..."
His face goes blank, that grin of his disappears into thin air. There's no doubt that the raven haired boy was going to find who did this and quickly. Luffy may be dense and childlike to most things but he knows emotions. He's been through enough to know. The past day, he'd glance you over again and again and would be reluctant to let you go when he gives surprise hugs.
Luffy probably already saw this coming in the back of his mind. He knows you're not one to cry, he's never seen it until now. This is how he knows, something is up. It's not to be taken lightly either.
If someone has talked about how you looked, how your skin was, your body shape.. Luffy is going to hurt them. Mentally and Physically. The childish tone is right out the window and he's using all of his force, no matter the person. Nobody makes you cry. Unless they want to die..
"Y/n, no... look! *Makes a ridiculous face* seehhh? Dwont I luuuk fwuuni?"
|Zoro<3
"What's wrong. Tell me."
It may take a second, just like everything else Zoro is battling with. His mind goes straight to the fact that he'd never seen you burst out into tears before and he's already gripping his swords without knowing said issue. Zoro completely bombards you with questions before actually trying to soothe you. It's not his fault, he's simply alarmed and isn't used to this. So when he figures he isn't going to get anything out of you, he decides to do just that.
Zoro isn't one to speak through soothing though, he has no idea what to even say to you. He can only hold you on his lap until you can speak, he also probably took you both to the observation tower. Up there, nobody could see you vulnerable. That's usually what's on his mind, keeping your pride afloat.
When he figures out the situation from you, there's no calming him down if someone has mentally or physically harmed you. It's just impossible, just like Luffy. Zoro will cut down anyone who's done this to you. It's just more of a shock because you never cry or show sadness. If you're crying because of something else, it may be more awkward since Zoro is a failure at soothing.
"Don't cry, you're strong as hell, that's why you're my girl.."
|Sanji<3
"...Who made you cry..?"
Another man who cannot fathom what's occurring right in front of his eyes. The cigarette has dropped onto the ground or onto the floorboards and his footsteps are quick. Sanji deals with it more better than Luffy or Zoro though. He's great at showing someone love and helping them get back on their feet.
The cook will take you somewhere secluded and would first console you. Let it be a long hugging session or soft nothings being whispered into your ear. All while you hold his hand and his eyes plead you for an answer.
Sanji doesn't even say or ask you for an explanation, you'd probably tell him first. If it's more of someone hurting you, he won't flash out of the room. Sanji would wait until you're off and sleeping well, crying could do that to a person. After he knows you're asleep, either he's going off to find the fucker who caused you to cry, or... well no, that's exactly what he's going to do.
Bonus, he asks Zoro to watch over you, actually.
"I'm gonna kick their fucking spinal cord out..."
|Law<3
"..."
There seemed to be a silence, nothing said, just stares. Sure, his girlfriend was crying, and he'd never seen her in such a state.. but somehow it was breaking him. On the outside, he simply looked like a calm, concerned boyfriend. On the inside, he was a wreak. His hand was shaky and nobody but Bepo saw this, he choked out a 'room' and suddenly you were alone with Law.. in his office.
As much as the captain loved to plan, he failed to plan what he'd do if you cried. It's foreign to him and the crew, you never frown or show signs of sadness. So this was a big surprise. Though all Law could do is let you cry, he would be seen leaning on the door in the room.. seemingly far away from you. Though all you have to do is say 'L-Law' with sobs and he's walking towards you with intent to make you happy again.
Law doesn't know how to help a person who's crying, though what he does is talk to you with nothing sugarcoated. He'll straight up tell you that you're strong, you're the happiness of this ship, and you need to tell him what happened so badly. His stern tone would be accompanied with a slightly sad look on his face. Though when he does get the gist of what happened.. let's hope it wasn't someone's fault. If it was.. you're probably going to hear a beating heart on your bedside table..
If it's something you're battling, he will most definitely HELP you. He's a doctor, he can try to help as much as possible.
"Law... ion' want the heart.."
"Alright, I'll make it stop beating, yeah.."
|Kid<3
"Why the fuck is she crying, why the fuck! Who the hell did it?"
Please don't cry, ever. This has to be killer's worse nightmare coming to life. His words were not getting through to your mind and he just wanted you to stop crying because if Kid goes on a killing spree, it's quite hard to stop him. Kid has to be the worse one out of the others on this page. The redhead captain is evil and will attack for revenge for hurting his woman. Doesn't matter if it was physical or not.
Another thing kid does that seems insensitive is suggest sex. Though, if you see his face, he's genuine. It's his love language, and it's not all the time where he's suggesting that he'll do soft sex with you. Showing you all the attention he can, he swipes your mind off of the terrible day and will fuck you until you're legs are numb.. and not from pain.
Kid cannot deal with you being sad or depressed over something you're battling yourself. He would most likely get all quiet and awkward and stay in the room with you. That's probably all he'd do, you would have to make the move of laying on him or sobbing in his chest. He's unable to say much of course, and he would get these teasing looks from Killer -even though his mask is covering it, but kid can FEEL it- that would result in a fight.
"Don't you ever fucking cry again. You're gonna cause a damn apocalypse."
|Ace<3
"H-Hey... what's wrong? Y/n?... Y/n!?"
Please, don't cry in front of him. The poor cutie never seen you cry so in his eyes, it was never ever going to happen unless he got on one knee. So seeing you in such a vulnerable state of mind and watching your tears endlessly fall, it broke him. Ace doesn't really know what do do either, the most he does is hold you and take you to his room for a more comfortable area.
Ace would peel away from you after awhile, maybe when you're sleep from exhaustion. He's the type of boyfriend that can't bare to ask you directly what happened. So Ace would go around the ship and ask what happened, if someone confirms it was someone on a recent island who hurt you.. then Ace is going right the fuck back to burn them bitches to tar. Though if it was mental wise, he'll feel like he's not doing enough for you..
Then we have two emotional babies who need each other. All in all, everyone leaves the two of you together, alone.. it won't take too long for Ace to crack a joke or two to make you smile. Though when you're feeling a bit better, you'd definitely have to explain to Ace what really happened and you'd have to explain how much he does for you. And how you appreciate it.
"We're two sad puppies y/n..."
|Doflamingo<3
"Just Another damn problem for me, stop being a wimp and stop bawling your eyes out"
It may sound like he's tired of you and disappointed that you did cry... though in reality, if you would clear your view from the watery tear drops, you'd see his face. His facial expression is a frown, a deep one that showed how angered and annoyed he is. Though you're not the annoyance, the annoyance is whoever dared to do this to you. His veins would start to pop and raise his skin as if he was mutating. Doffy never seen you cry before, and he honestly thought you would break sooner or later but he thought he would be the one to accidentally do it.
Doffy is not too much of a wreck, he would only call you over once and hopefully you hear him the first time because he's not doing it again. His lap being your throne and while you sit there on his lap, he gains information from a family member if you don't want to talk.
When he figures out the problem, if it was someone who hurt you... we all know that person is dying on the spot. Though If it's a mental problem, he's going to be a little hesitant on what to do. Doffy can only show love through buying things at the moment so that's something he does. Rich gold and pretty silver.. that's what he'll grant you to make you feel better.. and maybe even a little reassurance.
"Don't let shitty humans walk over you, it's unattractive."

the strawhats and their love languages
ft. the strawhats (duh)
a/n- in conclusion the strawhats are touch starved
warnings: spoilers in luffy’s
════════════════════════════════════════════
m.d.luffy- physical touch and words of affirmation
he likes to be around you all the time, constantly wrapping his arms around you multiple times while laughing. brace for impact because he has a habit of wrapping his arms around you from a distance and pulling you towards him
after the death of ace he’s torn and he’s seeking your touch constantly. hug him and tell him kind words because he truly needs it, he loves it when you kiss his forehead while whispering words of affirmation he always giggles a bit and kisses your nose in return.
r.zoro- physical touch and acts of service
while pda isn’t his thing he lives for receiving affection from you behind closed doors. hugs from behind are his favorites although you can’t really see his face he’s always wearing a soft smile. he loves laying down with you seeing how he sleeps a lot, he thinks it’s a simple action but he lives for it.
he loves it when you pop into the crows nest to bring him a snack or maybe a fresh towel while he’s training. although you can’t really get him to take a break you could check in on him from time to time bringing him little things.
sanji- physical touch and quality time
unlike the swordsman sanji doesn’t really mind pda. he loves any affection he receives from you, usually gushing right after and calling you cute. if you kiss the tip of his nose he’ll be a mess he thinks it’s cute and he loves it, move his hair from his face so you could see both eyes and kiss his forehead and he’s melting into your arms hugging you tight and resting his head on your shoulder so you can’t see his face with a red tint.
he loves spending time with you any way he can. when you dock on an island he’s always ready to go with you, without fail he always has his arm around you in someway while exploring the island or he’s holding your hand. sometimes you would sit on the island counter in the kitchen while he cooks, you doing your thing and him cooking for the crew.
nami- receiving gifts and words of affirmation
she’ll love receiving gifts from you, despite the odds she won’t really care about the price, if it’s from you the fact that you thought about her and bought her a gift will make her happy. the more sentimental the gift the better, she’ll love those. now if you get her something expensive she will be excited but she knows a relationship isn’t all about money but she will be touched that you went all out and bought her something expensive.
after everything that went down in her home village she sometimes thinks about everything she went through those eight years. sometimes she just needs to lay down with you and listen to you whisper sweet nothings to cheer her up and get her mind off it.
nico robin- qualify time and words of affirmation
she loves spending time with you. if it’s in comfortable silence she won’t mind, being able to be comfortable around someone in silence is a sign of a close bond after all. she won’t mind holding a conversation with you at all, it could be about something she’s reading or whatever hobby you’re into she won’t mind one bit.
like nami she’ll sometimes need comfort about her homeland. if she’s told you the whole story she’ll often come to you for comfort when she thinks about it, although it may end up with you noticing that something is off and comforting her with sweet words which she enjoys and thanks you for everytime.
usopp- physical touch and words of affirmation
although he is new to the whole relationship thing he enjoys your touches. when you hug him he finds himself melting into your touch, when you kiss him he always gets embarrassed no matter where it is or how deep into the relationship you are. his favorite kinds of kisses to receive from you are forehead kisses he feels like they’re more special then any other kiss you give him.
it’s no secret that usopp is usually nervous so sometimes he leans on you to get his mind off things, it normally ends in you complimenting him on his strengths and everything you love about him. he always smiles when you tell him these things, he thinks it’s nice that you think so highly of him, but who wouldn’t he is the mighty captain usopp after all
franky- physical touch and quality time
he loves receiving any kind of affection from you, his favorite kind would be kisses of course but he would also enjoy your hugs. even though he’s mostly made of metal he would love holding you close. despite his personality he would sometimes worry that you would want someone who actually has human flesh and would be more comfortable to hold, but he realizes he’s being ridiculous by the way you hold him and smile softly at him.
he would love spending time with you a lot. he would use the time y’all spend together to show you something he was working on. if the crew goes to an island he won’t mind staying behind to watch the ship with you, while the others are gone you two would have a little date. while it won’t be anything extravagant he won’t mind, he got to spend some well deserved time with you and he’s happy enough

Hello Reiu and Hamfie! I hope you both are doing well. First, do you have rules or a guideline for requests? About what you write or not, what characters and how many, in what form (hcs, one shots, etc)...
Second, may I request Ace, Sabo and Law being saved by a mermaid? And until they need to leave again they spend some time together and the boys can't avoid falling for the reader?
Thank you so much! Welcome back!
Rescued by a Mermaid; Headcanons
Characters; Ace, Sabo, Law
hello! we’re doing good, thank you for asking! and yes, we do have rules and guidelines, they’ve been rewritten and pinned by the time this is posted! Sorry for the long wait on this one we had a little bit of trouble with ideas ; ;
ACE —
The heavens had sent you an angel, only to let him drown.
Perhaps it was quite bold of you to leave the safety of the sea in the first place, but your curiosity had gotten the better of you. Of this man and his strange craft, powered by what you can only assume to have been his devil fruit. A peek wouldn’t hurt, right?
Well it definitely didn’t hurt you, but it did scare him.
Watching him tumble off his one man raft, there is a sense of urgency- fear. The realization that he could not swim;
But you can.
Your first meeting was perhaps not the best, but Ace laughs it off, unbothered by the occurrence.
Perhaps it is your worry that keeps you around at first- he did almost drown after all. It would be good to keep an eye on him...
Ace isn’t very against the idea, he’s aware of how much it weighs against your conscious and if it would make you feel better to travel with him for a while- there really was no harm in the company.
You learn very quickly just how much mischief this man gets up to and in to.
Honestly, you’ve experienced- and its barely been a week.
From the insane encounters with the marines to cocky pirates thinking they could take on Fire Fist Ace of all people- there is never truly a dull day when you’re by his side.
Speaking to him though, is probably your favourite thing to do.
Swimming alongside his Striker, you have a great many conversations- be it about his many adventures across the New World, to his current mission and hunt, Ace is full of surprises.
Perhaps the most surprising of them all is when night hits and he camps out by the beach. There’s something incredibly sober about the way he looks under the firelight and for the first time, you really take a moment to admire his features.
He’s not simply just loud and rowdy, but neither is he cold and calculating like an action movie Casanova; Ace isn’t like that.
You think he has a greater hold on you than you do on him- but you’re sorely mistaken.
Even when you eventually parts ways and he leaves you with a blinding smile, equivalent only to the sun, you know not the impact you have left in his bleeding heart.
But the sea calls for her sailors and he had a mission to see through.
You’d never know, as he left you with his vivre card, how much he would’ve loved to see you once more.
“Will you visit me?”
“Of course! It’s a promise.”
SABO —
Sabo was perhaps just a bit too over-confident in his abilities, and a little too forgetful in the fact that he no longer had the ability to swim.
You’re very much not pleased when battleships start sailing in your direction and even less pleased when people start falling into the water left and right. Thankfully, all of them simply swim back up to the surface rather quickly, all except for one.
There’s no reason for you to save him- after all, he was part of the ruckus. Yet even with that train of thought, you find yourself moving towards him, cradling him in your embrace before dragging him to the surface.
Some air would do him some good.
To be frank you were ready to give him a piece of your mind once he started waking up- but holy shit was he pretty.
Your irritation was swallowed temporarily to be replaced with concern when he starts coughing. The poor thing did almost drown, but that didn’t excuse him from disturbing your peaceful day.
He takes your words quite well, offering a sheepish smile in apology and a well overdue introduction.
A revolutionary? And the chief of staff at that?
Perhaps if you’d been in the mood, you might’ve made some snide remark over his careless demeanor, but you were much too intrigued by this new found knowledge.
You’d eventually get him back- after all, you had made the executive decision to come with him, if only for a while.
He agrees to let you come with him on the condition you’d stay away from anything dangerous and in turn keep him out of trouble [like drowning].
It’s a risk by all means- this is a classified mission, but some detours and shortcuts can be advantageous.
Like your company for example.
Not a day goes by without some witty banter or the other.
In his eyes, you’re seem so awestruck by every story he shares, particularly enamored by the tales of his youth alongside his brothers.
Having you around is like a breath of fresh air while his mind is drowning in the sea.
It’s difficult to say goodbye- when he has to meet up with the others upon the completion of his mission. It wouldn’t be right to drag you into their affairs and he’d rather you not be directly involved if he can help it.
But he makes it clear he’ll be back, you know he’d never lie. Not with that stupid smile on his face.
“Wait for me!”
“Just try not to drown until then.”
It’s so cheesy, the smile he gives you, “I wouldn’t mind drowning if it means you’ll be there to save me again.”
You 100% drench him for that one.
LAW —
You’re certainly not too trusting of humans, but curiosity has always overweighed that fear.
It’s stormy the day you decide to swim out of your little bubble and explore the endless depths of the sea, and perhaps also very fortunate. Even in the raging storm you could hear the shouts of people, possibly pirates, and their rapid footsteps as they tried to clear their... vessel from tipping over.
“Captain!” Even through the heavy rain and roaring waves you could hear members of the crew call out, followed by a loud crash as body meets water.
The heart pirates are more than shocked when their captain resurfaces not even moments later, arm swung over another person’s shoulder and coughing out large amounts of water
He’s grateful for the help but he sure wasn’t expecting you to ask to get on the ship
“This is your pirate ship, right? Can I hitch a ride?”
Can you what now
Shachi and Penguin are more than delighted to say yes for Law
You’re just a little too curious for your own good, asking about everything from what their ship was actually called- you learn it’s a submarine called the Polar Tang- and very quickly make friends with Bepo, Shachi, and Penguin. Jean Bart scares you just a bit.
And of course making friends with those three means making friends with Law, whether he wants to or not
He’s a lil annoyed at first
Why does everyone insist on treating his sub like it was their home
But he warms up to you easily- considering how much time he’s spent with Luffy this was nothing
He likes spending time with you during his breaks. You’ve traveled plenty despite your caution of humans, and there’s a great deal of stories to tell.
“I almost got eaten, you know!”
“Maybe if you weren’t so reckless you wouldn’t have.”
He’s never thought to find banter fun before (that’s a lie, he just won’t accept it) but it sure is nice to talk to you.
When time comes for you to leave he doesn’t ask you to stay- he doesn’t tell you how he likes your company or how he’d like to spend more time with you.
He simply leans over the railing of the sub along with everyone else, “You’re welcomed back anytime.”
“I’ll hold you to that!”

«Neither have you,» is the thought that crosses Katakuri's mind as Luffy tells him he's glad he hasn't changed. But Katakuri did change a little. Not in a way that would be significant to the straw hat captain, but in a way that his family, those of his blood, has definitely noticed. Katakuri's a lot more mellow than he used to be despite his kingly ascension and newfound responsibilities.
So many responsibilities. Everything rests on his shoulder, far from what he wanted. His sense of duty is strong, of course, as the second son, but he has never wanted to be the leader. He's just not cut for it.
And when he looks at Luffy, even in his entirely way too deformed self, with that grin and glint in his eye—this is precisely what he sees—a TRUE king. Katakuri is only a leader by default; his position was given solely through responsibility and debt. Luffy, on the other hand, fights for it, and by God if there's anyone worthy of this royal status, it is he who fights for it.
Even with his foresight, even knowing his defeat is imminent, Katakuri prepares himself. He shifts position so Mogura's ready to block any assault on his face, as he saw it before, but he knows damn well that there's no stopping this unnamed attack.
But he does stop it, somehow. Katakuri nearly lets go of Mogura as Luffy's giant fist clashes against the iron of his spear. He's sent flying toward the ground, but it's not hard; Luffy's awakened power turned the very ground into a bouncy matter, making it hard for Katakuri to stay upright.
Plus, he's still reeling from the direct hit to his face and the one to Mogura, which still has his arm numb. It nearly took all of Katakuri's strength just to par this blow.
With one swipe of his arm, he disengages Luffy, then uses the bouncy ground to his advantage, propelling himself at full speed toward the future pirate king.
"NOT SO EASY, I said!" Despite his aggressive tone, he smiles. Luffy can probably see it through the feathers of Katakuri's scarf.
At the last second, Totto Land's appointed king withdraws Mogura and goes for a kick instead. He transfers his weight to his heel, coats his foot in haki, and inflates it with Mochi—all of this within a fraction of a second—before aiming right at the center of Luffy's torso.
"That all you've got?!" He taunts because he's seen it—the attack that will put him down and determine his fate. But even knowing his defeat doesn't stop him from wishing to SEE and FEEL it.
At the edge of his vision, his brothers Heat and Perospero arrive after hearing about Luffy's arrival. They're ready to attack but know better than to interrupt their brother's fight. This can't end well, yet Katakuri is still smiling like a madman, prepared for his true king to whisk him away.
Laugher pours out of him in hearty bouts, haki striking around him. He’d expect nothing less from the man born standing. “Good.” Luffy bounces up into the air, clicking his heels and clapping his hands. “I’m glad you haven’t changed!”
Gear fifth is jittery, knows control isn’t the point in his freest form but the power is something else! Darting up, his nostrils flare, body swelling with candy sweet air. Part of him wants to give Katakuri some warning, another part thinking back to their fight, devious thought carrying him away. Hands dives into his hair and grab ahold of the memory, slipping it on like gloves. Luffy’s head swells with the transfiguration, body beginning its rapid descent. With a loud pop he pulls out his fist now comically large spike balls loaded into his cannon forearm reminiscent of bound man.
“We gotta think of a name for this, Shihihi!” Fist leaves his arm, spikes taking on a mind of their own ricocheting off one another and the air suddenly made rubber. Reaching the ground with a wet spat each spike explodes into another flurry of smaller needles. “Gomu Gomu noooo–?” Luffy’s body pancakes into frosted grass, ground worrbling before rebounding and spitting him back out, one fist already cocked back and launching towards Katakuri again. “Hmm, something-something Dawn Spider?”

Strawberry and Cigarretes
pairing: Sanji x Reader
word count: 2.6k
highlight: ¨Everything hurt, and for the first time, you wished to forget what the ocean sounded like.¨
warnings: slight angst
notes: This was a request from @vemuabhi! <3 Very special because it was my first ever request! I wanted to doge the obvious path (which I almost took) and do something that didn´t involve Whole Cake Island, so maybe it is not the biggest angst (hats off to Mr. Oda cause he is Father angst) but I did my very best! I hope you all enjoy and Happy Birthday, Sanji-kun! <3
𝕃𝕖𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕤, 𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕥𝕤, 𝕠𝕣 𝕘𝕠𝕠𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤!
Do you remember when you were a kid, and you´d find a shell laying on the sand? And you would pick it up and put it on your ear, hoping to listen to the ocean? It´d always make a smile grow on your face before you tossed it aside and jumped into the water.
That time was different. When you heard the ocean share its endless secrets and tell its adventurous stories, you just wanted to sit there all day and listen.
This specific event happened a couple of months after you joined the Strawhats. Chopper had borrowed you his stethoscope cause you thought it was cool, and in the middle of thousands of things you´ve already heard in your life, good and bad, the heartbeat was something that you were oblivious to.
Some would think that asking to hear someone else´s heartbeat was weird, but inside the Thousand Sunny... well, those guys put ¨weird¨ on another level, and you would have to work your ass off to surpass that.
Chopper got all blushed when you leaned closer to his tiny and furry torso, Usopp told you stories about a war he once won but had to have his heart replaced by a lion´s, Franky said that if you wanted to see a heart he could simply pull it out for you, Brook invested on the same ¨Oh, I don´t have a heart. Yohohoho¨ joke, Zoro let you listen to his wrist, Nami and Robin almost had you sinking into their generous breasts, and Sanji... you left him for last because you didn´t know how to ask him. So you just tiptoed quietly inside the kitchen, sneaked behind him, and tried to listen to his heart through his back. You feared that your nose would start bleeding if he faced you while you were doing it.
That was exactly what he did, by the way. He poured more water into the stew he was cooking and turned around, putting out his cigarette so ashes wouldn´t fall on you. Immediately you began to sweat, your breath quickened, and hold the stethoscope with a steady hand became a herculean task.
His lean fingers moved to the collar of his blue shirt and started to unbutton a few, enough for you to have better access. At that point, you believed that the reason why you weren´t bleeding yet was that you were slowly having a stroke, and Sanji´s action was God´s gift to you for being a good person while alive.
Then he didn´t do anything else, just put both hands in his pockets and waited while you listened to every single bubble popping inside his chest like you were afraid to miss one. In the end, he tucked a lock of hair behind your ear and went back to his stew.
But that was all about it. The following months were just like any other, the crew kept acting as weird as their minds allowed, and you kept shutting whatever your stupid heart was yelling at you. Although... if you could be honest for one moment, deep down you were hurt.
Maybe you scared or crept him away with your childish curiosity. Maybe he had noticed your feelings for him and got disgusted. Well, not disgusted, he probably didn´t like you the same way and didn´t know how to tell you, so keeping words to a minimum was his way to go.
He stopped singing and twirling around you, he´d rather call your name respectfully; when you shared the night watches, he just remained quiet by your side, answering briefly to your questions or comments; he even stopped trying to sneak into your baths or make suggestive comments - which you didn´t love before, but you know, you only miss something when it's gone.
The whole crew had noticed the change in both of your behaviors, but they too were not sure how to address it. Whenever someone asked something about it you would say ¨Really? I didn´t notice anything.¨. Either too proud to confront him or too afraid of the truth.
~
¨Oi, you ok?¨ Zoro asked, breaking into your personal bubble of sadness.
You knew it was Zoro because you two were taking the night watch, but you didn´t expect him to show interest or concern about your upset state.
The night was chilly, so you were sitting on Sunny´s grass, arms around your knees, holding them close to your chest to keep the warmth.
¨Why do you care?¨ you answered bitterly, but he didn´t mind since he was the king of freaking Bitter Land.
¨I don´t. But I´ll go crazy if I hear you sigh one more time.¨ he sat close to you, not too close, just enough for you to listen to each other.
A chuckle left your mouth involuntarily, you never expected his grouchy temper would come in handy in times like this. Then your frowned expression came back, and you let out another sigh.
Before you realized Zoro had pushed you with his Sandai Kitetsu scabbard, making you fall to your side with a squeak.
¨I told you.¨
You sat again, taking some grass off your leg ¨Yeah. Can´t deny it.¨
¨Yeah, you´ve been doing that a lot lately.¨
He didn´t look like he was teasing you, his eyes focusing on the line where the sky met the ocean, where the stars disappeared and became blurry white brushes on the water.
¨I... I don´t-¨
¨I think you can do better than the stupid cook.¨he kept his usual tone ¨ But I guess we don´t get to choose these things.¨
You were taken aback by his words, and despite you trying to fight your lips from trembling and tears from falling, it was useless. You had been crushing these feelings inside you for too long, and it killed you the more you ignored it.
The swordsman wasn´t saying those things because he loved you or anything like that, but because the entire crew - except for Luffy - had already noticed and began acting weird about it. And despite being the captain´s duty to solve any problem or an uncomfortable situation, your captain was a bit too oblivious, so he had to step in.
Besides, his nakama was getting hurt. He didn´t care about the ero cook.
¨If you want me to beat him up... just let me know.¨
He said it to cheer you up - not that he didn´t mean, he´d do it for much less - but nothing seemed worth smiling for now. You just bit your lip in order to avoid an embarrassing whining, since you were unable to stop the painful tears from rolling down your cheeks.
Everything hurt, and for the first time, you wished to forget what the ocean sounded like.
¨W-What should I do?¨
¨That´s not my problem to solve, Y/N.¨ he stood up beside you ¨But sometimes, when I have a difficult problem that I can´t solve my way...¨ his gaze still locked with the horizon ¨... I think about what my captain would do.¨ he left without any further words, leaving you not only sad but confused as well.
You slept on it for the next couple of days, still not understanding what he meant. Maybe he just wanted to leave the conversation and said whatever came to mind. But even that didn´t fit right. If he didn´t want to be stuck in an uncomfortable conversation, he wouldn´t have started one.
So you took as a personal mission to observe your captain until you learned how to think like him, hoping that figuring that out would solve your problem.
You had joined the crew as a historian, the person responsible for writing down every adventure meticulously, every tiny detail of every battle, and every glorious victory along the Strawhats journey. So in one dusk, when you were in charge of the night watch with Robin and the moon was full and bright, you took your journals and began rolling through the pages, looking for a pattern, something that anticipated every major decision of your captain.
You even borrowed old diaries from the time you were not part of their crew. The stories lacked details, but they served to paint a picture. Basically:
Luffy insults an ugly lady, saves a kid, eats something, finds Zoro, beats the crap out of a crazy marine, saves the day, gets his first crewmate.
Luffy gets eaten by a bird, then vomited in a town, finds Nami, eats something, is put in a cage, beat the crap out of some pirates, saves the day.
Luffy wants a new ship, meets Usopp, eats something, gets thrown from a cliff, beats the crap out of some pirates, saves the day, gets Going Merry and a liar.
Luffy wants a cook, explodes a restaurant, becomes a waiter, eats something, meets Sanji, beats the crap out of some pirates, saves the day, gets a cook.
Luffy eats something, finds the fishmen, goes for a walk, is thrown in the water, beats the crap out of some pirates, saves the day, gets a navigator.
Luffy wants a doctor, eats everything, fights some crazy ass bunnies, climbs a mountain, meets Chopper, beats the crap out of some pirates, saves the day, gets a doctor.
Luffy eats something, wants to fix Going Merry, meets Franky, loses Robin, beats the crap out of some world government agents, saves the day, gets an archeologist, a shipwright, and Thousand Sunny.
Luffy hears a ghoulish singing, finds a speaking skeleton in a busted ship, has his shadow stolen, beats the crap out of some Warlord of the Sea, gets a musician.
When you finished the last journal, the weight of your body pushed you to the floor, and you laid on your back for a couple of minutes, overwhelmed by the amount of information in your head.
¨I know what to do...¨ you took a deep breath ¨... I´m gonna eat something.¨
You mumbled something to Robin, telling her that you´d be back in a few minutes, and wandered to the kitchen.
As soon as you entered the room a sweet and comforting aroma like whipped cream and strawberries invaded your senses, making your head turn to the counter immediately.
¨Y/N-chan...¨ the cook said.
You opened and closed your mouth a couple of times, looked at him, and then to your feet, your fingers fidgeting as a sign of your anxious state.
¨D-Didn't know you were awake.¨ you marched to the table and helped yourself with some sugar cookies.
¨Oh... It won´t take much longer...¨ you heard his muffled voice somewhere in the back of your mind, all you could hear was the blood pumping in your ears ¨... cake because today is my birthday and I thought we...¨ your vision was focused on the cookie jar, crushing the granular biscuit with your fingertips ¨...and I...I didn´t know if-¨
¨What would Luffy do?¨ you whispered to yourself.
¨W-What?¨
¨What would Luffy do?¨
The question wasn´t for him, it was for you. You felt something growing inside your chest, like the blood that pumped in your heart was boiling and burning, giving you the strength and courage you needed.
¨I have been trying to find answers to a lot of things, you know?¨ you stood up to face the cook, palms spread on the table, ¨I ... do you hate me, Sanji?¨
He stopped what he was doing and let the knife rest on the cutting board. When his gaze found yours, there was no way back. That is what Luffy would do. He´d eat something, do whatever came to his mind, and deal with the consequences. No need to go back.
¨Y/N-chan... why do you...¨
¨I mean, I ask this because...¨ you clenched your hands, cursing yourself for feeling the need to cry ¨I can´t take this anymore, Sanji! If I did something to offend you or if I said something...¨ your voice was broken and weak, and you were a mess of tears and sobs ¨You don´t have to love me back, that´s not what I am saying, but... I can´t stand-¨
¨Y/N-chan... why do you think I hate you?¨ he wiped his hands with a towel and made his way towards you, slowly.
¨Oh, come on, Sanji... You treat me differently, you´re cold and distant, you don´t say a word to me even when we share night shifts! If you don´t hate me, then this must be a sick game you´re playing.¨ your legs felt wobbly, and you sat back in the chair, not being able to face him anymore. The courage and strenght you had minutes ago was gone.
You just watched him get closer and kneel in front of you, his cold fingers gently brushing away the hot tears on your cheeks.
¨I could never hate you, Y/N.¨ he said softly ¨I am sorry I made you feel like this, I am sorry I made you cry...¨ his fingers touched your trembling lips.
¨Then why...¨
¨I didn´t want to scare you away like I always do, Y/N... I know I can be too much sometimes, with the nose bleeding and everything. But that´s how I am, and I didn´t want you to think of me as an idiot... so I prefer being silent, then say something stupid and... ¨
¨You don´t have to say this. I don´t need pity talk...¨you spoke as more tears fell, giving him a chance to take his statement back.
¨I have to, Y/N. But not because of pity talk.¨ he gently pressed his forehead against yours, like bunnies do when they apologize.
¨Then why?¨
¨Because I love you, Y/N.¨ the blonde closed the space left between the two of you, kissing you passionately.
He helped you get up without breaking the kiss and leaned you against the kitchen table, his hands holding your body close while yours ran through his golden hair. His mouth tasted like strawberries and cigarettes, a flavor to which you could easily get addicted.
You parted the kiss just enough to get some oxygen, your noses were touching, and you could feel his heavy breathing against your skin.
¨I didn´t know today is your birthday...¨ you whispered, afraid that this was a dream and you´d wake up alone again.
¨Yeah, I was hoping to get a Happy Birthday from you, you know.¨ he chuckled.
¨I think you´ll be getting more than that.¨
You stared into each other´s eyes for a moment before he pulled you to a hug. When you leaned against his warm chest you heard it again, the same babble of the ocean, only this time you smiled, knowing that it wanted to listen to your stories and secrets as well.
¨Sanji?¨
¨Hm?¨
¨Happy Birthday... I love you.¨
¨I love you too, Y/N.¨ he kissed you again.
¨Please, don´t have sex on the dinner table.¨ you jumped when Robin spoke.
When you turned, you saw all your crewmates dressed in pajamas and messy hair staring back at you with sparkly sleepy eyes. You spot Zoro back in the crowd, you smiled and gave him a silent ¨Thank you.¨. You couldn´t help but wonder how the guy who manages to gets lost walking down a straight path was able to guide some sense into you.
In any way, you´ve found it. Inside of his chest, inside of his heart was the All Blue you heard so much of. Maybe that was the thing with it, and why only a few people found it. Everyone assumes that it is a place, where the four Blues meet, but it´s easy to forget that when you´re a pirate the ocean becomes the essence of who you are.
Little did you know that Sanji had found his All Blue too.

I wanted to write out the character dynamics between Lucky and the Straw Hats because I have fallen deep into the Little Lucky AU. At first it was just gonna be a series of one shots with little to no plot for funsies but now I’ve gone and fleshed it out into its own fully developed AU and I feel compelled to share my thoughts on it.
Since I have this happening right after Arlong Park, I realized that at most, they’ve known her for like a week and some change with Sanji only knowing her for a couple of days. I think that this would make adjusting to her becoming a child much easier because ultimately, none of them really knew her. Hell, with her amnesia Lucky barely knew herself.
It would take about a week for everyone to accept that this is how it is now. The devil fruit user tried to warn them that the effects were permanent (meaning that she’s not going to suddenly switch back, not that she’s permanently 4 she is still going to age normally), but they thought this person was bluffing in order to get mercy or something. As time passes and Lucky is showing no signs of turning back, everyone begins to feel some regret about punting the user into the sea, but now it’s too late.
In Lucky Break, she doesn’t come clean about the truth of where she came from until after Enel is defeated in Skypeia, but in this AU she would tell them the truth during the Alabasta arc. After Drum Island when Nami is recovered because she felt bad for keeping it a secret when Nami was sick.
Luffy’s relationship with Lucky has by far been my favorite to develop, I find it super interesting. Despite not knowing the adult Lucky for very long, Luffy’s emotional intelligence being sky high helped him to understand her better than she probably even understood herself. There was something off about her, and he knew it within their first conversation. The way she had a tendency to shrink in on herself and physically close herself off, and the fact that her smile never once reaches her eyes told him a lot. He doesn’t know where she came from or what it’s like, but he can’t imagine it’s all that great if this is how she acts. He still wants to go there, but now it’s because he needs to throw hands with whoever made her that way. After she’s turned into a child, he immediately notices that she now has that spark that was missing from her eyes before, and he’s bound and determined to fan that spark into a flame so that he doesn’t see that same look when she becomes an adult again.
Having a small child on board does ever so slightly mature him. At first he’s like “Oh there’s a little kid here now? Fun!” but then it evolves into “Hang on I’m responsible for her”. He realizes that this little kid is going to depend on him for everything. Sure, he has his other crewmates to help, but as captain he feels the weight on his shoulder more.
After the Enel situation happens he becomes more noticeably mature and goes out of his way to hover around her more and make her happy. He’s more prone to involving himself in the actual childcare aspects of her life instead of just being ‘the fun best friend’ to her. He sits in on her appointments with Chopper and helps as much as Chopper will allow, both because he wants to help and also as a way for him to see what she had to go through in the moment that he wasn’t there to protect her. He also tries to give advice, mostly about following her dreams and understanding how valuable the freedom to do so is. He’s still her best friend at the end of the day, but there is an air of seriousness to it now.
Lucky idolizes Luffy intensely, he is her Shanks pretty much. Between him being her best friend and saving her, she wants to be just like him when she grows up. He’s the best person ever in her book and she will fight anyone who tries to trash talk him (much to the horror of everyone else who is rushing to stop her).
Zoro naively thought he would be escaping Lucky fussing over him now that she’s a little kid, but he was very wrong. She’s still trailing behind and yelling at him to sit down so she can “make it better”, but now she’s just got a box of colorful kid band-aids instead of actual bandages. Zoro is covered in a rainbow of band-aids at any given moment and he can’t even take them off because she’ll put more on there while scolding him.
There’s a post where I talk about their interactions a little bit here. With the part about sword fighting, he is very serious about it, but if you look closely you can see small smiles here and there as she makes more progress. He is very proud. He wishes Kuina could have met her, he thinks she would have liked Lucky. Tries to shield her from the idea that she will only be able to go so far because of being a woman, he doesn’t want that stupid mentality weighing her down.
If someone asks him what his relationship to her is, he would state that he’s her teacher. If you asked Lucky, she would say he’s her big brother. Zoro feels like he’s going into cardiac arrest but keeps a straight face and says “that’s fine too”. Lucky looks up to him too, but she also lowkey likes to bully him in true sibling fashion. Like telling him to put his boobs away, running off with his sake, pulling pranks on him when he’s trying to nap, that kind of stuff.
Right after Arlong Park, Nami was feeling very attached to Lucky (tbh she’s the first to start showing yandere tendencies in Lucky Break), so she was honestly a little disappointed at first when they realized Lucky wasn’t turning back into an adult. She would never admit this out loud, but she did feel that way. She snaps out of it pretty quick though and declares herself ‘big sister Nami’. She gets very into it, and likes being the big sister for a change.
As far as she’s concerned, she’s the only responsible adult on board (until Robin comes in). As such, she’s constantly trying to keep Lucky attached to her hip because she’s worried that the others are going to hurt her by doing something stupid. This doesn’t work all that well because there are other people on the ship that are more fun and goofy than she is, so Nami spends most of her day running after Lucky. Lucky is the only person that she doesn’t have a tab for. She’s a little kid, and as adults, it’s everyone’s job on board to take care of her and that includes buying her stuff like clothes/toys/etc. Nami does teach her the value of money and how to be responsible with it for when she’s old enough to have some money of her own, but Lucky isn’t indebted to her or anything.
Lucky finds it a little odd at first when some woman she barely knows insists that she’s her big sister, but she goes with it. Nami can be a little bit of a stick in the mud, but Lucky knows that she can go to her when she needs help. Since they sleep in the same room (sometimes at least, there are lots of sleepovers in the guys’ room), Nami is usually the person she goes to when she has a nightmare.
Usopp is great with kids, and that includes Lucky. He found adult Lucky a little intimidating (for reasons we will get to soon enough), so he honestly gets along with child Lucky more. He loves having a gullible little kid around that he can tell his tall tales to, given that she’s too young to be able to immediately call bullshit. However, he doesn’t anticipate how many questions she’s going to ask about the story. He wasn’t ready for the constant flow of why’s, how come’s, and what’s that’s that get thrown his way. On the bright side, his improvisational skills skyrocket from this.
His job in regards to Lucky is to grab her in a dangerous situation and run away as fast as he can, a role he chose for himself. He does fall victim to being roasted by a tot over this because she will call him a big baby for screaming and crying (lessens post Enel). As a sniper, he is supposed to be further from the battle than others, so he typically is the best choice for her to be with. Like Zoro, he wants to teach her how to use his own weapon of choice and even makes her a tiny slingshot. This backfires because now she’s terrorizing him and Zoro with it (and also takes cracks at marines sometimes).
Usopp is her friend. He doesn’t have the title of best friend or big brother which hurts a bit, but he learns to cope. Lucky does spend a lot of time with him since she thinks he’s funny and fun to play with. He only helped her prank Zoro once because she immediately played innocent and threw him under the bus. That being said, only she can bully him, Franky better sleep with one eye open for beating him up!
Sanji is her dad now, and no one can rob him of that, he will kill for this title. He held off for a week tops after she was turned to make sure that she wasn’t just going to go back to normal, but after that he took a page out of Zeff’s book and adopted her. He wants to go back to the Baratie long enough to let Zeff know he’s a grandpa, but for now will have to wait. He’s always trying to get her to call him “papa” to varying levels of success. She doesn’t cooperate at first because she really doesn’t know him, but she’ll warm up eventually and start calling him that. Though she does sometimes switch back to using Sanji just to mess with him.
Lucky is his entire world basically. You thought he was obsessed with women? That pales in comparison to his devotion to his little princess! His wallet has more pictures of her in it than it has actual money. What money isn’t spent on getting food gets spent on her. If she looks at something for too long, she’s getting it. Nami gets on him frequently about spoiling her too much, even though he says there’s no such thing. Ironically, he has better luck with women now because he’s more toned down around them and it’s just cute to see a doting dad, but he is completely oblivious to it. He genuinely believes that the women are only approaching him because they think Lucky is cute and doesn’t even pick up on them flirting with him because he’s too busy showing off the pictures in his wallet. Nami thinks this is hysterical and won’t point it out.
He wants to cook with her so much, he’s always trying to involve her in the kitchen (with age appropriate things of course). There are limits to what she can safely do, but he’s happy just to have her in the kitchen as a taste tester if that’s all she can do. She doesn’t need to become a chef or anything, but he wants her to know the basics at the very least. If she wants to have a tea party, he’ll get her to help make the little treats to go with it and show her how to perfectly steep the tea. No imaginary tea parties on his watch. The one thing he’s strict on is her eating habits, she needs to stay healthy and that’s not up for debate. If she just genuinely doesn’t like something, that’s understandable, but she can’t just feed Luffy under the table to get dessert faster.
Lucky’s actual father was very emotionally and physically distant, so it takes very little time for her to latch onto Sanji as her new dad. When she does, she basically becomes a daddy’s girl overnight. Sanji gets pulled into playtime whenever he isn’t in the kitchen, whether it be including him in the tea parties, “styling” his hair with dozens of colorful barrettes, or simply making him get in on the games she was playing with the others. With how god awful his childhood was, it’s honestly a little healing for him. He’s happy that he can give someone else the childhood he didn’t get to have.
Chopper doesn’t get to be the baby of the crew anymore. Lucky would probably be the first to be able to really get close to him on Drum Island, because even Chopper isn’t going to be scared of a four year old. Wary, but not scared. However, after seeing that she isn’t afraid of him and is genuinely trying to befriend him, he comes around. It’s shocking to him to learn that she’s part of a pirate crew, but also inspiring. If someone so young can do it, he can too! They’re fast friends and become thick as thieves.
Lucky thinks all of his doctor stuff is super interesting and likes to watch when he’s making medicine. She asks lots of questions and also gives out compliments easily. Chopper even shows her how to do some very basic first aid since that’s a good thing to know in emergencies. He also goes over what plants are poisonous and to not eat anything she doesn’t know for a fact is safe. Besides the medical stuff, Lucky enjoys hanging out with him lots because she thinks he’s around her age (and does not believe him when he insists that he’s 15).
Lucky keeps referring to him as her little brother and it’s driving him insane. No amount of “I told you I’m 15!” will stop her. She thinks he’s lying because they’re both the same height give or take so obviously that means they must be the same age. He can’t even grow into a bigger form because she’ll just say that it doesn’t count since it’s not permanent. Like Luffy, being responsible for the safety of a child does make Chopper slightly more mature. Don’t get me wrong, he will still run away if Lucky is already safe, but if she isn’t then he will square up. Maybe if she sees him protect her, she’ll start calling him big brother! She doesn’t.
Robin feels so conflicted when they first meet. It’s one thing to be taking on grown adults that knew what they were getting into by taking on Baroque Works, it’s another to see a small child being dragged into by association. She intentionally leaves Lucky out of reports to Crocodile. She keeps hoping that Lucky will be dropped off somewhere else and be off the radar, and feels sicker and sicker as they keep getting closer to Alabasta. She’s just a little kid and doesn’t deserve to be dragged into something like this.
After joining the Straw Hats, she finds herself drawn to Lucky, and even uses her name. She does some mental gymnastics to justify this by telling herself that technically it’s a nickname so she’s in the clear. She’s totally not getting attached, she tells herself as she tucks Lucky into bed and reads her a bedtime story. It doesn’t help that Lucky follows her around like a duckling because she finds her very mysterious and cool. Having Lucky think that her devil fruit and all her knowledge is awesome really warms her heart.
It takes a while for her to be called it (post Enies Lobby), but she becomes the mom of the group. Unlike with Sanji, Lucky came to call her this entirely on her own. Robin needs a minute after she gets called that for the first time. That being said, she fills the role well. She’s got that calm and caring vibe to her, while also being a total mama bear. If anyone looks at Lucky the wrong way, she’s eliminating the threat on the spot. Her baby is not about to be punished for existing with what the government deems to be “bad people”. She’s harsh towards anyone she sees as a threat, but especially with marines/government agents.
Franky is definitely surprised to see a little kid with the Straw Hats, but it also earns some respect from him. He appreciates seeing pirates that don’t just abandon their children, thank you very much. Franky has an energy to him that kids love, and Lucky isn’t immune to it. Granted, at first she just wants to fight him and he can expect to be pelted with pebbles from her slingshot until she’s forgiven him for the Usopp incident. He doesn’t take this personally. In fact, he encourages it. Hell yeah kid! You stick up for your friends! Show me who’s boss! His attitude makes it very hard for her to stay mad for long, especially with Usopp telling her that it’s okay they already made up.
His goofball personality and eccentric behavior make him a lot of fun to be around. On top of that, Lucky likes to sometimes watch him work. He’s very quick to engage her in it, too. He’ll explain what he’s doing and why in great detail, and is happy to answer any questions she has. He’ll even let her hold a flashlight for him even though he has his own built in. Very supportive if she wants to learn more from him, but won’t push it either.
After Lucky comes around on him, she calls him uncle Franky. He’s just got those fun uncle vibes to her. He truly loves the title and is proud of it. He gets a bit cocky and asks if he’s her favorite uncle only to get humbled by her saying no with zero hesitation. Sorry, Franky, you’re no competition for uncle Ace. Despite the devastating blow to his ego, he is a very fun uncle and is insanely protective.
