Summary:
The story would follow Ike and Soren in small stories through their four years of high school.
Ike and Soren met as children, and have been nearly inseparable since. This is despite the fact that they seem to have nothing in common. Ike is into sports, has plenty of friends, but struggles with schoolwork. Soren is in the chess and debate clubs, heâs a loner, and heâs a straight-A student. Ike is tall, athletic, handsome. Many girls in the school are crushing on him. Soren is gangly and awkward, his face hidden behind his bangs and glasses, and known for his sharp tongue. He is a frequent victim of bullies and mean girls.
It boggles the mind of others, but that has never mattered to Ike and Soren. No matter what others think, they are best friends, Ike and Soren, two halves of a complete set. They understand each other in a way that transcends language.
Except⊠all of that could come to an end if Ike ever discovers Sorenâs secret.
Sorenâs feelings for Ike are not purely platonic. For years, he has known that Ike was special to him, but itâs only now, in his adolescence, that heâs starting to learn what that means.
For the sake of their friendship, Soren hopes that his feelings will fade. But in his heart, he knows that heâs not dealing with a simple crush, the way all of Ikeâs admirers are always giggling and blushing whenever he shows them any attention. No, Soren is in love, heâs been in love all these years without realizing it, and every day heâs falling even harder.
Perhaps some distance would change things⊠but Soren cannot bear the thought.
So he still follows Ike wherever he goes, whether itâs cheering him on at his baseball games, or hanging out with Ike and his friends at the skatepark, or staying over at his place to help him study for an exam.
Yet Sorenâs silent suffering does not go unnoticed forever.
Soren finds an unexpected ally in Heather, the only out and proud lesbian at their small town high school. She wants to start a gsa, but needs other people to join.
Heather approaches Soren and asks if âyour boyfriend and youâ want to join. Soren gets defensive, protesting that Ike is NOT his boyfriend, theyâre just friends, Ike is totally straight, and Heather is just like âoh honey.â And starts talking to him about her many crush on her straight best friends over the years.
Somehow, Heather convinces Soren to join the gsa. Heâs apprehensive at first, and wants to keep it a secret.
However, Soren canât keep anything secret from Ike without outright lying. They know each other too well. So eventually Soren admits that heâs joined the gsa, afraid that Ike is going to judge him, or ask him if heâs gay, or assume thingsâŠ
But Ike is just like âwhatâs that?â
And when Soren explains, Ike is just âoh okay.â
Just straight to the point, absolutely unbothered. He doesnât ask any follow-up questions at that time, and afterwards, itâs just general stuff like âwhat did you do today?â Or âhow did that event go?â
To the point where Soren almost wants Ike to dig deeper.
Anyway, time passes. Soren meets people in the gsa and makes friends outside of Ike. He learns more about what it means to be gay. And he even gets to commiserate with other people about his unrequited crush.
But things canât stay the same way forever, and eventually Ike starts showing up to some of the gsa events, wanting to support Soren.
Slowly, over time, Soren starts to let down his guard, and introduces Ike to his friends, and even comes out to Ike.
Then Ike meets Mia, who is aroace, and starts to realize for the first time that there might be a reason heâs never understood why thereâs so much fuss about sex. And he starts learning about sexuality, and it fascinates him.
It takes longer for Ike to realize that just because heâs on the ace spectrum, it doesnât mean he is aromantic. He has romantic feelings for Soren. In fact, heâs had romantic feelings for Soren for a long time, he just mistook his feelings as platonic. And the more Ike sees Soren come out of his shell and showcase this new, confident aspect of his personality, the less Ike can ignore his growing feelings.
And so Ike confides in Mia, who tells Heather, who tells Ike point-blank that Soren is thoroughly in love with him and that he better be damn sure he feels the same way because Soren doesnât seem like the type to fall out of love.
Cue Ike asking Soren to attend senior prom with him. They skipped prom last year, because they both hate parties, but Heather has convinced Ike that asking Soren to prom is the correct move.
Of course, they both end up hating it and ditch early to hang out at their favorite stargazing spot, cuddled up together in the back of Ikeâs pickup truck. They talk long into the night and share lazy kisses back and forth.
(And thatâs the end! Maybe it would have a short epilogue of them moving into a shared apartment post-high school. Thanks again for the prompt! I had so much fun with this one~)

Late 2019 I tore my soul in half and gave each half to a man I had never even met. Those men were Sakurai Atsushi and Fujisaki Issay. For four years they have owned those pieces of me, and in return they have blessed me with beautiful music and performances. Their work quickly took over my life, and now almost everything I do is related to them. They had given me a reason to live, something to always look forward to, something to love. Never before had I loved somebody nor their work so deeply, and I don't think I will ever love like this again.
I would have never expected them to die at such young ages. Issay, 61. Atsushi, 57. Neither would I have ever guessed they would die the same year, let alone so closely after each other. August 5th and October 19th. My soul is still divided, they each took their half of my soul to their grave with them, just like I am left with their works, now no longer in their hands.
I would do everything to return them to our world, even if they would then decide to retire. It is not only their work that was of importance to me, it was their lifes, knowing that they were doing well, happy, and having fun. I know death is inevitable and that it would have come for them eventually no matter what, but the time is not right. In ten or twenty years, maybe... Maybe then I could have accepted it, but not now, not while they were still so young, despite officially having been old.
Issay and Atsushi, both such inspirations. Issay, an openly gay man who felt like he did not necessarily have a gender. And Atsushi, a man who was not afraid to show his feminine side and affection to other men. The both of them were not afraid to show their emotions and speak their minds. They were truly people to respect and look up to. In a strange way, they were like parental figures to me, despite me also looking at them very... "respectfully".
Two men both beautiful in every way imaginable. Beautiful voices, beautiful faces, beautiful personalities/souls and for as far as I have been able to see, even beautiful bodies. Atsushi also had the best thighs I had ever seen on a man. Age had never taken that beauty from them, and they were both so kind and caring. Despite having been 57 and 61 years old they were both unbelievably stunning, not only on the outside, but on the inside too. In fact, I believe that their inner beauty shined through, and with every passing day it turned them more and more beautiful.
They have left us with so much to remember them by. Both BUCK-TICK as well as Der Zibet have such great discographies. BUCK-TICK, 23 albums, 46 singles, over 60 recorded tours and over 80 music videos. How many bands can achieve this? And if only Atsushi had lived longer, I am sure they would have done so much more. Der Zibet, 19 albums. Maybe they did not have as many singles, music videos and recorded tours, but their discography of music was surely not small. Besides that, Issay had so many projects on the side. PhI, Hamlet Machine, his solo album, ISSAY meets DOLLY, KA.F.KA.
And it was not only music that had become Issay's career, his life, it was pantomime too. His love for pantomime was undeniable as he often used it for performances with his band as well. I will always remember those little mime acts he would put up as they played the song Der Rhein. He also often talked about his love for pantomime. We may have only been able to see one performance of it, yet even through just one show you could see his passion. His mime career had started even earlier than his music career, and he actively worked on both until the day he died.
Sakurai Atsushi too had more than just BUCK-TICK. He had a solo album, SCHWEIN and The Mortal, growing his discography even further. Besides that, his special skill, that not many singers possess, was his ability to sing most of his songs even better live. And not only was he an incredible live vocalist, he too possessed a mesmerizing stage performance, gifting us either very magical, elegant and gothic performances, or something that could only be described as purely sexual. His moans will never leave my mind, and this is not a complaint. I only have to think about it and I can already see him ride a stage in thigh high stockings as he moans to either Sapphire, Mudai, or any of his other songs.
Something else I will never forget, for both Atsushi and Issay, is their smiles, their laughs and even how beautiful their voices were if they simply talked. They were both so cute with everything they did, truly adorable. Atsushi with his cats, they were his biggest love, his babies. Issay too was so cute with pets. Besides that they were both also funny, always able to make me laugh. They were just everything that was good.
Sakurai Atsushi and Fujisaki Issay, two very unique personalities that will not easily be found again, especially not in combination with their beauty, voices and skills. With their deaths, I have lost most of myself, and I feel empty. I hope the work they have left us with will be enough for me to fill this void that has grown inside of me, despite the fact that I want more, especially from BUCK-TICK as no other band will ever reach such perfection. It may be selfish and unrealistic, but I wanted them both to live and create forever.
That could have never been reality, but I would still have appreciated it if death could have waited 20 more years before it took the two most important people to me. It still feels unreal, how could they both die so soon? One of them was already difficult, yet both? It is as if I am a side character in somebody's horror fiction that Atsushi and Issay were the main characters of. It is worse than a nightmare, as a nightmare I could have woken up from.
BUCK-TICK's last album was Izora, an album with a cover art that symbolizes infinity. Their last music video was Mugen Loop, a video that truly was a loop, something that just went on forever. Despite the fact that BUCK-TICK will now most likely end, their music will exist for eternity, Atsushiâs voice will never disappear. The same counts for Issay.
I wish I could just tell them one thing, cause I want them to know how much they have meant to me. I know they can't hear me, but I'll still say the words and hope the wind carries them to wherever they are. All I would tell them is "thank you for everything you have done, for everything you have created." And I would tell them that the world misses them, and that I personally promise to always love them, even if I were to grow out of their music... which I am pretty sure will never happen. They will forever be my favorites, and their work will for always be part of my everyday life.
Sakurai Atsushi and Fujisaki Issay, thank you. I hope you both rest peacefully and without regrets. You have been perfect. I hope you two will take care of each other, wherever you are.

Spider-Man Read-Through 082 Secrets, Confessions and Endings (ASM 249-251, SM&PP 01)
MASTERPOST
So...
More importantly PETER IS IN MINI SHORTS. I REPEAT: PETER IS IN MINI SHORTS.
#249 starts with a lady objectifying Peter to my delight, and... uh...
Oh, the 80s are HERE!
Those guys on the right are definitely ogling at him.
The "animal" shirt was given to him by a "grad-student buddy as a gag". Probably Steve Hopkins.
Pete's so funny.
It's the 80s alright!
So in that very heterosexual setting, Peter suddenly feels danger.
Way to be dramatic!
While Peter's having fun, Jameson's being blackmailed for his involvement in the Scorpion shebang. Then Harry gets a special delivery and proceeds to ride his bike away. Peter finds him quickly thanks to their gay mental special bond. Turns out Harry's being blackmailed too! The letter says that his father was the Green Goblin. Oops.
Peter reminisces about that.
That is NOT what Gwen was wearing that "night".
Anyway, Peter says he's going to help Harry. First step: meeting the blackmailer!
Boyfriends!
At the club, Peter expects the Hobgoblin but sees the Kingpin instead. Some members enter another room, including Jameson and one Mr. Kingsley... Intcheresting! Presumably, they're all blackmailed by the same individual.
By the way, I'm glad to see Peter and Harry team up. I missed that. To say that it pretty much never happened.
While Harry gets to go to the meeting, Peter changes into his costume. Everyone suspects Harry, but then the Hobgoblin appears.
Hmm. HMM.
He basically asks for money, and Spidey is surprised that his Spider-Sense doesn't activate when he's damn near the Hobgoblin.
HMMMMMM.
Jameson's not happy about that, and neither is Harry.
AH-HA! HMM-HMM. *nods*
INTERESTING THAT YOU'D SAY THAT.
But then Spidey's Sense activates and the Goblin does get in the room through the window. Hm!
While Spidey and the Goblin are fighting, Fisk looks at them, analyzing.
We're doing a lot of callbacks recently. Not that I mind.
The Hobgoblin's about to strike down Spidey when the Kingpin interrupts him, and, as the Goblin flees, throws Spidey's tracer at him. I actually gasped. Good twist! The Kingpin gets more compelling each appearance, hell yeah.
The Kingpin's motivation is simple: he's afraid that the Goblin might interfere with his operations. Makes sense.
However, Spidey can't use his tracer without his Spider-Sense...!
In the letters, people suggest Flash or Ned as to the Hobgoblin's identity. Interesting...
It kind of was, yeah. Also neat picture.
ASM #250 has a neat change! I like it.
Peter quickly changes back before Harry starts to get suspicious.
Great panel.
You beautiful man.
At a cafe, Harry tells Peter that the Hobgoblin seemed to know the club well-enough to be a member.
The Hobgoblin notices Spidey's tracer, but he knows that it's useless now. He also gently confirms to us that Norman's diary stopped just before he discovered Spidey's identity, but the Hobgoblin's sure interested in that information as well.
We get a great cameo by Peter's landlady, then Spidey tries to interogate the various men who're being blackmailed: Georgie, Kingsley... and the others.
No luck. A visit to Jameson only serves to jerk his Spider-Sense (he thinks back to Liz's party, where it also happened... weird).
Peter remembers that in the past, he also used a signal receiver to track villains.
A LOT of callbacks, as I said. And just as Peter focuses on repairing it, the Hobgoblin analyzes Spidey's tracer.
And Spidey finds the Goblin's lair. Ensues: a fight!
The Hobgoblin eventually accidentally destroys Norman's papers and provokes an explosion. As Jameson tells an employee to warn Robertson, he also...
Maybe he did grow a conscience.
In #251, the Hobgoblin flees in his van. Spidey was barely able to hitch his ride.
In a critical moment, Spidey's sense comes back to him.
Then they get in a nearby pool of water.
Love those perspectives.
The Hobgoblin says that being unmasked would be too much of a disgrace for him... and his family.
Hm. I think they're trying to steer us toward Harry, maybe?
Love the shading on the bubbles.
In the water, Spidey can only find the Hobgoblin's mocking mask...
The next day, following his confession, Jameson steps down from being editor in chief (but he's still a publisher, so...?).
The next day...
Oooh, Peter looking like Cyclops now!
Love those panels but seriously Peter what the heck.
Kiss!!!
I'll be honest, I don't have the faintest idea what this means. It's great to be unspoiled!
From the looks of it, Peter's glasses are for his punched down face. Alright. (It suits him well!)
Anyway, Peter's pinpointed the source of the signal!
...........................................................................................Marcy?
He checks the thing and disappears.
OH. OH!!!!!!!!!!!!
So that was the last of Stern's book, and honestly he was good! He was a good one. Spidey got consistently good again.
(By the way, the other issue of this post is that Skip story. We all know how it goes. Moving on... See you next time for Peter's unmasking in SSM, and then Secret Wars!)

Day 66: Bond
There was a certain bond that formed between two people when all of your friends were paired off and dating someone. When the two of you were the only single people so you got paired off to share food, and be partners in games, and all other manner of things.
Harry supposed that tonight would be just one more of those nights as he arrived at Ginny and Luna's. And he wasn't complaining (not anymore, at least) it had taken a couple of years but he and Draco had warmed up to each other. They had compatible styles for partner games, Draco always gave Harry any treats with nuts and Harry gave him any treats with mint, and Harry genuinely enjoyed his dry sense of humor.
If he was being honest, he'd started looking forward to all of the time that he got to spend with Draco on Friday nights.
But things felt different the moment he entered the house, even though he couldn't quite put his finger on why. He spotted Ginny first, standing against the counter, pouring a couple glasses of wine, "Hey," he called.
She looked up and bit her lip.
"What?" he asked with no small amount of dread. He knew that look; it was the look she'd given him right before she'd told him she might be gay and in love with Luna, a look that said she was afraid of breaking his heart.
Ginny opened her mouth but no words came out.
"Ginny, what?" he said, taking several steps toward her.
"I don't know how to say thi-"
"Oh, good," he heard Draco say from behind him, "You're here."
His mouth stretched into a grin even before he turned around "He-" he broke off when he saw that Draco was standing with his arm around some bloke who Harry had never met before. "Hey," he finished.
"This is Matt," Draco offered.
And frankly, Harry would rather die (again) than shake his hand but before he could have any say in the matter Matt had stepped forward into his space and was gripping his hand. Hard. "The Harry Potter," he drawled. "My, my."
(Read more below the cut)
Harry glanced over at Draco who looked vaguely uncomfortable.
"Draco has told me so much about you. I could hardly believe that he was telling the truth." He leaned toward Harry conspiratorially, "He's known for embellishing the truth, you know?"
Harry wrenched his hand from Matt's grip, "Actually, I've found Draco to be honest to a fault. Hardly anyone else will tell me when my outfit doesn't match or I've got something stuck in my teeth."
Matt's eyes flashed and Harry's proverbial hackles stood on end he didn't like that look, "I-" Matt started
"Hey," Draco said, taking Matt's hand and drawing his attention, "Let me introduce you to everyone else."
"Nice meeting you, Mark," Harry called.
Draco narrowed his eyes at him, "Matt," he corrected, before mouthing, 'behave' at Harry.
"My mistake," Harry said, maintaining eye contact with the other man until he turned away and followed Draco into the other room.
"Okay," Ginny said, drawing his attention away from them, "First. Men are disgusting; I can't believe I thought I was attracted to them for so long."
"What?" he asked, slumping over to the counter and sliding onto a stool across from where Ginny was still mixing up drinks. He was feeling a little nauseous, fire rushing under his skin.
"That," she said, gesturing to where Harry had been standing talking to Matt and Draco, "The little pissing match to decide who's dominant."
"What?" Harry asked, "that guy is just an asshole."
She rolled her eyes, "Second, you're still an idiot."
"Wow. I'm just going to go home," he said. "Between you and the dude who was trying to break my fingers, I don't think it's going to be a great night."
Ginny leaned across the counter and instinctively Harry leaned toward her, "How long are you going to continue denying you have feelings for Draco?"
His brow furrowed, "I don't. We're just mates," he added.
"I rest my case. You're still an idiot," she said as she leaned back and started mixing drinks again.
Harry slouched on his stool turning that thought over in his mind, "That actually would make sense," he admitted.
"Harry, I love you, you know I do," she said. "But honestly, I can't believe you're just figuring this out. The rest of us have known for ages. We were all shocked when he walked through the door with Matt; he told us he was bringing someone but we thought the two of you were just making a joke."
"Well now what am I supposed to do?" he asked. "Why couldn't anyone have said something sooner?"
"Because we thought it was obvious," she hissed.
"Let's just get through the night," he sighed. "Then we'll deal with the rest. We'll need to come up with a plan."
-----------
He spent the rest of the night calling Matt the wrong name (Miles, Maurice, Mike, Max, Moses, Mitch, Mason) to the point that Ron either caught on and decided to help or got confused enough that he started calling him the wrong name, too. Harry also couldn't help but rub it in Matt's face how much better he knew Draco; telling inside jokes, asking Draco specific questions about his work and his parents, and reminiscing about fond memories.
Draco seemed a bit exasperated by it but Harry couldn't help himself. Once he started, he just couldn't seem to stop.
Eventually as everyone was getting ready to leave and Luna was saying good bye to Matt, Draco cornered him, "Do not move a fucking muscle," he hissed, "I am not done with you."
"Dra-"
"I mean it, Potter. Stay right here," he said, jabbing him in the chest with his finger before he turned and made his way over to his date.
"Hey," Matt said, smiling at him much the way Harry imagined an alligator might smile at his prey.
"Hi," Draco replied softly. "I'll floo you tomorrow, yeah? There are a few things I need to take care of."
Matt frowned, "I thought we were going back to my place."
"No," Draco replied steadily. "I have a five date rule." He stepped back, "I'll floo you," he repeated.
And Matt looked pretty pissed about it, but he seemed to take the hint and disapparated on the spot without so much as a goodbye to anyone.
"You're all the literal worst," Draco fumed. "Except you, Luna," he added. "You're a goddess."
Luna gave a little curtsy.
"Seriously," Draco said, glaring at the room even though none of them looked especially repentant. "And you," he spat, spinning to glare at Harry, "You're the worst of all."
"Does that make me special?" Harry quipped, arms folded across his chest.
Draco groaned, "Bloody fucking Griffyndors. I hope you're all happy," he grabbed Harry's arm. "Come on we are going back to mine to have a chat."
"I thought you had a five date rule," Ginny called.
Draco flipped her the two finger salute before apparating them to his house.
Harry always liked being in Draco's house; it was small and cozy, and it always smelled vaguely like chamomile. Just being here made his soul feel lighter, calmer.
"Alright," Draco growled, "Spill. What the hell was that?"
"What?" Harry asked innocently.
"Potter," he warned.
Harry sighed, "He's an asshole."
"And you know that how? You didn't even give him a chance".
"Draco his handshake was like a vice!"
Draco stared at him, "You've got to be kidding me. Are you that much of a child? He hurt your hand so you thought you should bully him?"
"I didn't bully him!" Harry exclaimed.
"No?" Draco asked. "You didn't use his given name even once." Harry winced, maybe that was overkill. "You spent the entire night trying to make him feel stupid and inferior to you. Which, let's face it, everyone does anyway because you're Harry fucking Potter!" Draco exploded.
"That's not fair," Harry said, betrayal slicing hot through his gut. Draco knew that he hated being famous, hated the preconceived notions attached to his name.
"Yeah well, neither was what you did."
"Draco, I-"
"No," he said, holding out a hand, "That was such bullshit, Harry."
"But he's awful."
"You didn't even give him a cha-"
"I didn't have to!" he exploded. "The first words he said to me were to disrespect you. He's an asshole and I will chase a million of them away from you."
"That's not your job."
Harry threw his hands up in the air, "I'm your best friend! Whose job is it, if it's not mine?"
"You don't just get to decide things for me!" Draco cried.
"Fine," Harry spat. "You want to date that wanker, go ahead. But I have seen his type before. Don't come crying to me when he's beaten you to a bloody pulp for looking at someone the wrong way." He pushed past Draco and made his way to the door, walking out and slamming it behind him.
He started down the sidewalk, debating trying to figure out where Matt lived and have a chat or maybe go over to Ron and Hermione's to get some advice and regroup.
But the further he walked, the more the anger faded from his veins, and the guilt settled in.
There was no choice really, he turned around and headed back to Draco's house once more. When he arrived he knocked on the door even though he normally would have just let himself in.
"Go away!" Draco shouted.
He knocked again, "Draco, please."
"No! Go away. You're the worst."
"I know," he called back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. Please."
After a few seconds, during which fear settled heaving in Harry's gut, the door opened and Harry slipped inside, Draco was curled up on the couch, hugging a pillow to his chest.
Seeing him looking so small and sad made Harry ache. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I shouldn't have said that."
"Which part?" Draco asked bitterly.
He sighed and came over to sit on the couch beside Draco, "I'm not sorry for chasing him away. But I will always be here for you, no matter what. You can always come to me."
Draco leaned over and put his head on Harry's shoulder, "I know," he whispered.
"Forgive me?"
He nodded and they sat together in silence for a few minutes, both trying to collect their thoughts. Eventually Harry said, "I really wish you wouldn't date him."
Draco sat up, "Harry look at me."
Harry turned on the couch to look at him and raised his eyebrows.
"I won't ever floo call him, we'll never go on another date, and I'll never see him again." Something eased in Harry's chest. "But it's not because of what you said or did. It's because I, too, have had shitty relationships. I have also lived through trauma and I have had to learn from it just like you."
Harry looked down at his hands.
"And if you have concerns about someone, there is a better way to tell me than what you did tonight."
He nodded, suitably chastised, "You're right."
"I appreciate your concern, though," he added and Harry looked up to see that Draco's mouth was quirked up, he really must be forgiven, apparently. "And I genuinely forgot how petty you can be."
He shook his head and reached out for Draco's hand, "Draco, I want you to be so, so happy," he said. Then he added, "I'm an idiot."
Draco raised an eyebrow.
"And everyone knows it, you included, so you can't really hold it against me," he said.
"I'm pretty sure I can."
He huffed, "Just hear me out. I'm an idiot and I didn't realize until tonight that I'm a little bit in love with you. And it's fine if you don't feel the same but you are my best friend and I had high standards for you even before I knew I had feelings for you. It hurt me to see you with someone who treated you so poorly."
"Sorry," Draco said, "I need you to repeat that."
"I said, I'm an idiot," Harry started.
"Not that part."
"It hurt me to see you with someone who treated y-"
"Not that part either," Draco said.
Harry swallowed, "It's fine if you don't fee-"
"Harry," he grumbled. "Say the other part."
He rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm in love with you," he whispered.
Draco blinked at him, a smile blooming at the corner of his mouth, "Say it again."
A grin tipped up the corners of his mouth as well, "I'm in love with you."
Draco launched himself into Harry's arms and covered Harry's lips with his own, "say it again," he mumbled into the kiss.
"I love you," Harry repeated, murmuring the words into Draco's mouth.
Draco pulled back slightly, "I love you, too."
"I hoped that was the case," Harry replied.
After he kissed him again, Draco said, "Alright, fine. Now you get a say in who I date."
Harry grinned, "Is that so?"
He nodded.
"Will you date me, Draco Malfoy?" he asked, brushing his nose along Draco's.
"Yes," he whispered. Then with a smirk he added, "But we'll have to get my best friend's approval and rumor has it that he has very high standards."

Lovely Writer: Count 20, 21, & 22
Based on the promos and the end of the Episode 8, these chapters should be included in Episode 9 of Lovely Writer. Keep in mind that they often cut scenes or move them around. And yes, this includes Nubsib and Geneâs first time.
Count 20
After leaving Siam Paragon, Gene waits in his condo. While heâs there he gets LINE messages from Nubsib telling him to eat and wait for him.
After, Gene gets drunk texts from Aey that include closeups of his lips and pictures of a man. Gene asks who the man is and Aey says Gene is too jealous, but the man isnât Nubsib.
Gene says he isnât jealous and goes to get dressed to meet Aey. Heâs not a parent but he is worried about Aey being drunk at a bar with some random man.
Gene goes to the hotel bar and is relieved to see Aey is sitting alone.
Gene tells Aey to pay so they can go but Aey buys Gene a mojito.
Aey says heâs surprised Gene came without Nubsib and Gene remembers that he hasnât texted Nubsib back or told him where he went. He goes to text him but Aey stops him from grabbing his phone. He tells Gene that they were talking right? And Gene doesnât want Nubsib to interrupt them like last time. Gene says fine but they can talk at home, they donât need to do it at the bar.
Aey asks Gene if he likes Nubsib and goes to touch his face. The bartender brings Geneâs drink over and interrupts them so Aey stops. He tells Gene that he could tell Nubsib likes Gene.
Gene asks Aey if heâs gay and Aey says yes, he doesnât like women. Heâs actually prettier than most women.
Gene can tell that Aey is very drunk to be talking like this so he orders him water, but Aey just orders another alcoholic drink. He asks Gene why he hasnât touched his mojito and tells him heâs cute.
Aey says itâs stupid but heâs happy that Gene was worried enough to come see him at the bar. He says that a kind person like Gene can like him so he should stop liking Nubsib and like him instead.Â
Gene says he wants to go home and Aey says Gene doesnât have toâhe can hold on to him tonight.
Gene doesnât have the strength to push Aey away and heâs surprised by how much stronger Aey feels now when before he seemed so small. Nubsib steps in and covers Geneâs mouth so Aey canât kiss him.
Nubsib and Mhok have arrived from the after party. Aey asks what theyâre doing and Mhok takes Aey away to talk. Nubsib is so scary, Gene doesnât dare to look at him or speak.
Gene sees his untouched drink on the bar and the thousands of baht Aey threw next to it and feels guilty so he goes to drink the drink, but Nubsib takes it and drinks it all at once.
Nubsib says they can go back now and takes Gene to his car. Once theyâre inside he aggressively kisses him and asks Gene what he should do with him.
Nubsib asks Gene âDo you know what you did wrong?â and Gene says he was wrong to go and talk to Aey even though Nubsib told him not to, and Nubsib tells Gene no, he was wrong to make him worry. He tells Gene he gets very worried when he canât contact Gene.
Gene says he told Nubsib that heâs not a kid so he doesnât have to worry and Nubsib tells him that he told him already, itâs not related to his age. Nubsib worries about Gene because heâs his important person.
Gene finally tells Nubsib â...sorryâ and Nubsib kisses his cheek and tells him not to forget this.
Gene asks if Nubsib is still mad that he came to see Aey and Nubsib says yes, because heâs not just protective, heâs also possessive.
Gene admits that he also got jealous when he thought that Aey might have been at the bar with Nubsib.
Nubsib tells Gene that theyâll make a deal. Nubsib will always tell Gene where he goes if Gene does the same. Gene agrees.
Gene asks how Mhok knows Aey and Nubsib says theyâre friends. Gene thinks thatâs weird cause they never seemed close to him.
Gene also canât comprehend Aey liking him even though it came from his mouth. He asks Nubsib why he likes Gene even though Gene isnât super handsome or rich and Nubsib says that Gene is cute and he likes him. So what? And if Nubsib likes Gene, then so can other people.
Nubsib drives Gene home and Gene gets LINE messages from Aey. He asks Gene out for another drink. Gene says Aey has drunk enough and mentions that Nubsib drank Geneâs drink. Aey then asks about what Mhok and Nubsib talked about. When Gene doesnât answer, Aey tells Gene that he drugged his drinkâthe mojito Nubsib drank. Aey tells Gene that Nubsib should soak in a cold bath all night if he really drank it.
Count 21 (Nubsib POV)
Nubsib thinks Gene looks very cute but weirdly anxious and jittery.
He tells Nubsib âYou ate...â but canât bring himself to say it.
Nubsib asks Gene if itâs hot and if he wants him to turn on the air conditioner and Gene freaks out a bit. He asks Nubsib if heâs feeling hot and then tells him to speed home.
As soon as they get back to the condo Gene pushes Nubsib to take a cold shower to save money on the electric bill. Nubsib tells Gene itâs just a bill, itâs not a big deal. Gene starts listing the other benefits of cold water like that it wonât dry out Nubsibâs skin and it will help burn fat.
Nubsib laughs and thinks Gene being weird is cute. He goes to take a shower and then comes out. Gene goes into shower next and Nubsib peeps at Geneâs phone. He sees that Gene was reading an article about sex pills.
Gene comes back to the bedroom and berates Nubsib for not taking a cold enough shower. Gene noticed steam on the mirrors.
Gene showers and then comes out wearing Nubsibâs clothes, which make him look small.
They lie in bed together and Nubsib starts playing up the symptoms in the article he saw Gene reading. He says he feels hot and Gene checks his forehead. In reality, Nubsib is only hot because heâs lying in bed with Gene.
Gene puts Nubsibâs head in his lap and says they should go to the hospital. Nubsib says, âIâm hot so I need to go to the hospital?â
Gene finally admits that Aey texted him and told him that he drugged his drink with sex pills.
Nubsib asks Gene where someone would even get pills like that (as a joke). He then tells Gene that heâd never drink something if it looked suspicious. Heâs totally fine.
Gene doesnât believe him because if Nubsib was normal, he would have hugged him already.Â
âDo you want me to hug you?â
âNo itâs just usually like that.â
âOkay, so Iâll hold you tight later on.â
Gene narrowed his eyes. âThen why wonât you just hold me now?â
â...â
âItâs because youâre uncomfortable right? You donât have to pretend to be a good person, you can tell me about it.â
Nubsib wants to comfort Gene but he likes how worried he is about him. He tells Gene heâll go to the bathroom and take care of himself later. Gene says then it must be bad right? The pills are strong.
Gene says that if he doesnât go to the hospital, he needs to take care of it himself.
Nubsib tells Gene to relax and that they should just go to bed. He says, âI told you thereâs nothing. You were just fooled by me.â
Gene doesnât believe Nubsib and pounces on him. He tells Nubsib that heâll help him himself. Nubsib tells Gene that he doesnât have to force himself to do anything and Gene says heâll only use his hand.
Nubsib tells Gene itâs fine and Gene says, âDonât be a hero.â
Nubsib says, âAt this time, you havenât accepted me yet. If we do it like this, itâs me taking advantage.â
Gene says, âYouâre not taking advantage. Iâm offering to help myself.â
Nubsib reminds Gene that he promised to hold him tight and say it loud when he confessed.
Gene holds onto Nubsib and shyly says, âLike...like...like.â
Nubsib laughs because heâs so happy.
They smile and Nubsib asks if Gene still wants to do it.
Gene says yes because Nubsibâs hard.
Nubsib says itâs not because of any drugs, but because Gene is cute.
Geneâs face says he doesnât believe Nubsib. He tells Nubsib that if heâs too embarrassed to go to the hospital then Gene will do it himself. He starts taking off Nubsibâs pants and Nubsib reminds Gene that last time he told him he wouldnât hold back.
Gene isnât listening and tells Nubsib to help him with his pants. Nubsib âhelpsâ by kissing Gene and taking his shirt off. He takes his pants off too and Gene tells him, âI told you to help me.â Nubsib tells Gene that he is helping him, because he doesnât want to do it alone.
Nubsib spreads Geneâs legs and Gene asks if theyâre seriously going to do it. Nubsib says yes and theyâre going to do it vigorously which makes Geneâs eyes widen.
Nubsib licks Geneâs chest which makes Gene very embarrassed.Â
Nubsib thinks that Gene looks like heâs not in his body, because heâs so inexperienced heâs oversensitive to everything.
Nubsib eats Gene out and wants to explore every nook and cranny for hours but stops because if he keeps going then heâs worried heâll get too rough.
âIt hurts, Sib.â
âBe patient.â
âIâm sore.â
âYes, I know. I know.â
Wet eyelashes and tears. They rolled from the corner of his eyes and made my heart faint. I stopped what I was doing and my other hand, which was still free, gently stroked his small face.
We kissed and touched. Eventually, Geneâs heavy breathing lessened.
Even if Iâm patient, thereâs no way for someone to not get hurt during their first time. I poured more lube on my hand and moved forward. Knowing that Gene was suffering, I was also suffering.
Close to entirely inside his body, he tightened. I smiled even though my jaw gritted. I wanted to control myself so Gene wasnât afraid.
In a hoarse voice I said, âItâs all inside.â
â...â
âCan you feel it?â
Gene nodded. I paused, waiting a little longer, before slowly moving my hips. Geneâs eyebrows which were still drawn tight, slowly loosened with time.
âAh...ah!â
I was patiently moving slowly before increasing the speed little by little.
âGene...Khun Gene.â
I moved the palm of my hand to support his buttocks, to soften the impact. Under my body, Gene moaned as if he wanted hide how he was feeling. The sound of the thrusting and the lube sounded rough.
âYouâre...too big.â
â...â
I accidentally thrust too hard, until I heard a high pitched cry. Almost completely withdrawing from his body before invading again. I couldnât help but say harshly, âWho taught you to speak like that?â
âI...canât.â
The dim lights made me see it all. His red face and torso. The eyes dim with tears. The rhythm that moved his hips deeply. I moved both hands to hold his waist. Looking at the emotions on Geneâs face, I tried to remember it precisely in my brain.
âGene, do you know...how long Iâve waited for today?â
âYeah.â
âCall my name, let me know that Iâm taking you, Gene.â
â...â
âWho is taking you Gene?â
âSib.â
â...â
âNubsib.â
I leaned down to caress Gene, and he hugged me. A small, cute moan was heard repeatedly in my ear before I thrust my hips deeper for the last time.
Buried so close that we were almost fused, made sure that the person in front of me was all mine.
Count 22
Gene wakes up with Nubsibâs forearm around him.
He tries to get up and Nubsib asks where heâs going.
Gene says that Nubsib has class right? And Nubsib reminds Gene that itâs Sunday, and he doesnât have filming today either.
Gene says he wants to take a shower and Nubsib says itâs fine because he wiped him last night. Inside too. So Geneâs body is completely clean.
Gene pushes Nubsib and Nubsib laughs before kissing the hand Gene used to shove him.
Nubsib tells Gene to take a shower later and Gene says fine but he still wants to go to the bathroom. Nubsib carries Gene to the bathroom.
I automatically moved my arm around Nubsibâs neck. The quilt around me came off and the cold air from the air conditioner blew. I froze knowing that I was totally naked and not wearing any clothes. Faster than I could think, I tensed my legs to try and hide. But I cried out because of the sore muscles in my back.
âOuch!â
âI know youâre shy, but donât hurt yourself.â
âIsnât it because of you?â
Nubsibâs sharp eyes lowered slightly. âThen Iâll take care of it for you.â
âThereâs no need!â
Gene makes Nubsib leave. Itâs kind of hard for him to stand but he manages. He notices that there are a lot of red marks on his body and hopes they go away soon.
Gene asks Nubsib to bring him some clothes and he does.
He carries Gene to the couch and Gene smells him cooking.
Nubsib then carries Gene to the kitchen and Gene gets embarrassed over how Nubsib isnât even bothering to let Gene walk and is just wordlessly carrying him everywhere.
Nubsib gives Gene medicine and Gene asks if Nubsib is okay too after the drug he took last night. Nubsib says yes heâs fine.
Nubsib calls Gene just âGeneâ and Gene says they arenât the same age.
Nubsib says that might be true, but Gene is his boyfriend.
Nubsib says, âWould you prefer wife or beloved?â and Gene says, âLetâs stick with Gene.â
Nubsib carries Gene back to his bed and tells him to sleep.
Gene wakes up at 9AM and thinks Nubsibâs condo is really well stocked and heâs lucky to have a housekeeper.
As he makes breakfast Nubsib comes up to him and kisses his cheek, scaring him.
Nubsib holds Gene and asks if heâs going to write all day and Gene says yes.
He hasnât gone back to his own apartment since the day of the event because he misses Nubsib so much.Â
Nubsib kisses Gene with tongue and Gene tells him to stop doing this when they just wake up. Nubsib says, âItâs a morning kiss. Never read it in a novel?â
Nubsib asks Gene to come to set and visit him today. Heâll take Gene out to eat.
They eat breakfast. Later on, Gene goes to meet Nubsib at the set.
Thereâs nowhere for Gene to sit on set and itâs too hot to stay outside so he goes inside and stays in an air conditioned room.
Aey comes in and says heâs surprised to see Gene. He thought Nubsib would keep him away.
Gene is silent and Aey acts why heâs acting this way.
Gene is so angry he canât even speakâthinking about all the side effects the pills could have had.
Aey says that he lied to Gene because Gene didnât answer him. He didnât put in any drugs at all.
Aey says heâs sorry but he just wanted to get back at Nubsib by having him soak in an ice bath. He didnât put anything in there.
Gene is frozen in shock.
Gene says playing a joke is one thing, but they could have called the police too.
Aey asks if Gene hates him and Gene says that if he hated Aey he wouldnât be standing there talking to him.
Aey then asks if Gene likes Nubsib and Gene says yes he does.
Aey starts laughing to the point where heâs crying and says that itâs really cute how Gene thought that he liked Nubsib.
Gene thinks that between Nubsib and Aey, if all young people today are like this then he doesnât want to leave the house.
Aey stops laughing but he stays smiling. He tells Gene that he actually saw Gene on Nubsibâs phone before the casting and he became interested because Nubsib doesnât care about anyone but he cared about who was in that picture. Thatâs why Aey followed him to the casting.
Gene is so confused by the fact that Aey doesnât like Nubsib.
Aey says that if Gene wonât be his boyfriend then he can be his friend-in-law and Gene doesnât know what heâs talking about.
He tells Aey not to play pretend like this again and Aey laughs before leaving.
Gene meets up with Nubsib who comes in from set.
âNong Aey told me he didnât put anything in the mojito. So were you affected or were you not?â
âMojito?â Nubsibâs eyebrows raised. âWhat mojito?â
âDonât pretend to forget. Not even a week ago, the drink you drank for me.â
âOh!â
âOh!?â
â...â
Nubsib went silent. Seeing that reaction, I immediately guessed. I pointed a finger at him.
âYou bad boy! You fooled me!â
âGene.â
âAt that time I was worried about you, but...â
âI told you multiple times I wasnât affected. Donât you remember?â
â...â
âWhere would you get sex medicine from?â
âIf it looks suspicious, I wonât pick it up and drink it.â
âI told you I wasnât. You were fooled by me.â

cookie run kingdom au bc iâm out of control
ok first of all the kid cookies legally cannot go on missions
chili pepper (though she generally hates rules) established this rule after stage 2-18 when she saw the jelly worm get turned into a dragon and thought maybe this wasnât the best environment for children
soon after this snow sugar and alchemist run into espresso and are like âwow! a magic cookie! will you come live in our kingdom?!â
espresso agrees because heâs a big softie for kids deep down because heâs been roaming around studying magic for a little while now and it would be nice to have a place to settle down and maybe start up a coffee magic school
of course as soon as they reach the kingdom gate, who else would be there but madeleine cookie
espresso: i need to leave immediately
espresso does consider booking it but alchemist seems so eager to learn magic from him and how could he break his promise to snow sugar to live in her kingdom
meanwhile madeleine, whoâs been in the kingdom for a little while now, is surprised to see that one guy from the republic again so he waves cheerfully at espresso and espresso just. walks past him. not even acknowledged
espresso hopes that he wonât have to interact with madeleine much and he can just ignore him. unfortunately, the only house available is the one next to madeleineâs (because madeleineâs house gives off a blinding aura that makes it hard for other cookies to sleep at night, thus no one wants to live next to him except angel cookie, whoâs his neighbor on the other side)
regret.png
at DAWN the next day madeleineâs at espressoâs door. espresso (regrettably) answers after like two and a half hours of madeleine standing there at his door, knocking
madeleine asks espresso to join the exploration team and espresso slams the door in his face
madeleine continues to talk to espresso through the door and espresso makes a note to ask the sugar gnomes to install a thicker door
the only reason espresso eventually agrees is because snow sugar asks him to
so when espresso joins, heâs not terribly surprised that the team is a mess (because why else would madeleine, of all people, ask him to join- he must have been desperate), but he didnât expect it to be... well, as much of a mess as it was. weâve got madeleine (strong but stupid), avocado (whoâs okay at combat but really is a lot better at weaponsmithing), angel (who sometimes does healing magic but more often than not just focuses on making a glowing aura around madeleine), and vampire (does he even do anything???).
madeleine is so happy to have a cookie thatâs competent in combat that he gives espresso one of those friendly pats on the back except heâs too overexcited and ends up knocking espresso over
espresso: *long sigh*
so a couple days later espresso is like âwhy tf is chili pepper cookie not on our combat team???â
turns out chili pepper and madeleine had a disagreement about the morality of stealing and chili pepper refused to do combat for the kingdom ever since
espresso comes in and smooths things over and chili pepper replaces vampire cookie in the exploration team, a change which makes everyone happier
then they meet rye cookie during the chilirye quests
episode 4 and the beginning of episode 5 are kind of rough for our exploration team bc theyâre being chased by both licorice and rye cookie
but when they get to pomegranate village and rye hears the whole thing about dark enchantress cookie coming to take over the world, rye begrudgingly agrees to work with the team and avocado goes back to working at the kingdom forge
thus, an epic slow burn chilirye romance begins
the same thing has been happening with espresseleine but like stupidly slow
lore time: ok so in my mind dark magic and black magic are two different things. black magic is like the evil stuff dark enchantress uses, and itâs just one branch of dark magic (coffee magic would be another branch of dark magic), but a lot of cookies get the two confused and so dark mages are looked at as evil
what does this have to do with anything, you ask? well, it just so happens that madeleine and espresso did, in fact, meet once before when they were kids. madeleine was afraid of espresso bc he practiced âblackâ magic and ran away from him
madeleine doesnât remember this interaction. espresso does.
it was espressoâs first experience with cookies mistaking him for a black mage, and it wouldnât be the last, especially from light mages. this is part of why heâs so dedicated to his studies- to prove that not all dark magic is bad
so as the group travels together, they all realize some things. chili pepper and rye realize theyâre not so different after all, espresso and madeleine (respectively) realize that dark and light magic (and each other) arenât so bad, and angel cookie realizes sheâs surrounded by gay cookies
everything goes great until 7-25. you remember 7-25 and the nightmare-ridden librarian? i do. i was stuck on that level for WEEKS
anyway. the party gets to the librarian and they are HURTING. chili pepper and rye end up confessing their love to each other- which says a lot about how dire the situation was if you could get two lesbians to confess their love
so madeleineâs at the front and the librarian is about to absolutely murder him when espresso says not today, not my man. espresso steps up and uses all of his remaining energy to send the librarian to a pocket dimension or something, but espresso ends up getting pulled in too and heâs assumed dead
heâs not dead heâs just kinda in suspended animation in the void but the others donât know that
then the cookies go back to the kingdom bc they need healing, right? wrong. madeleine stays by where espresso disappeared and refuses to move bc what if he comes back, he was injured and when he comes back heâll need someone there to help him even if he wonât admit it, heâll be back any minute now
eventually chili pepper has to knock madeleine out just so they can get back to the kingdom
theyâre all kinda depresso about losing espresso but none moreso than madeleine. heâs so depressed, in fact, that his light magic actually weakens
heâs still a part of the exploration missions but heâs just. distracted. in a way he wasnât before. heâs more careless in battle, spends more time alone, and people have actually seen him without his smile
so while our crew is somewhere in episode 8, pomegranate cookie happens to go back to the library and finds the dark magic rift. unlike the cookies on our adventure team, she can actually open it
pomegranate, finding a weakened espresso in the rift: itâs free real estate
pomegranate is really impressed by espressoâs magical talent and takes him back to dark enchantress cookie (who has been summoned at this point and is starting to really cause chaos). dark enchantress wants to recruit espresso but he refuses because of a certain light magic idiot dark enchantress is the one who made people look at dark magic as evil
dark enchantress: ok *casts a mind control spell on espresso*
posesso the espresso
meanwhile, madeleine is doing the talking to himself thing that he does (in the MIDDLE of a battle) and heâs like âwhy would espresso do that, anyway? heâs never done anything selfless in his life!â and chili pepper just rolls her eyes and as sheâs taking out an enemy and says âbecause he was in love with youâ
*madeleine voice* HUH????????
everyone else thought madeleine and espresso were together bc they obviously had a thing for each other and thatâs why madeleine was so distraught when espresso âdiedâ
madeleine suddenly realizes he like likes espresso, which is unfortunate bc heâs âdeadâ
at this exact moment, white lily shows up claiming she was attacked by espresso
madeleine: THATâS WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!11!!
some distance away, possessed!espresso facepalms. âwhy did i just do that,â he wonders
so this is how they learn espresso is alive but possessed by dark enchantress. madeleine, however, only cares about the first part, bc at least thereâs hope now that he can bring espresso home
his magic returns, even stronger than before, and the revitalized team plows through the rest of episode 8
so they finally get to dark enchantress and face her. dark choco decides to join the hero team bc pomegranate bullied him
which is really good for the team bc their front, madeleine, runs off to fight possessed!espresso alone at the beginning of the fight
espresso and madeleine would do a lot of sparring and stuff together and they were pretty evenly matched because of their different areas of strength, but this is different bc possessed!espresso is actively trying to kill madeleine and he has a black magic buff
possessed!espresso has the upper hand here, so he gets madeleine cornered and is about to deliver the final blow but he canât
madeleine sees his hesitation and is like !!!!!! heâs still in there!!!!!!!
he also realizes thereâs a pomegranate seed over the eye that espresso covers with his hair and realizes that must be whatâs causing the possession spell (like in ovenbreak story run when wind archer gets possessed)
instead of fighting possessed!espresso, madeleine starts talking to him, reminding him of how they started out as kind of enemies, but how they became close friends. madeleine talks about how espresso made him realize that not all dark magic was evil, and thereâs beauty in dark magic, too, all while slowly getting closer to possessed!espresso, whoâs still poised and ready to deliver the killing blow
finally, madeleine asks possessed!espresso to trust him, and then he reaches out and touches the pomegranate seen over possessed!espressoâs eye. thereâs a burst of light magic, the seed falls off, and espresso is back to normal
he and madeleine confess their feelings to each other then go help the others defeat dark enchantress cookie. the kingdom is saved, everyone is happy, and our two couples live in domestic bliss the end

Anonymous requested: Alex meets Willie at a coffee shop and theyâve been talking for a few weeks but Alex is afraid to admit anything of liking Willie. But his friends push him to and he finds out that Willie likes him back and they go on a date.
I combined this with a prompt from this amazing list because I thought it was funny. I didnât include the actual date because I know nothing about skating but if enough people want it then Iâd be more than happy to do a part two of this!
I also added Julie, Carrie, and Alex being best friends because we deserve it.
Batman and the Barista
Aside from his co-workers, there was not one single thing about working at Eats ânâ Beats that made Alex Mercerâs job there bearable. If the coffee machine wasnât straight-up not working, it was spurting scalding water at him; the customers were generally speaking entitled and rude; his boss was so laid-back and carefree that it was painful and no problems in the workplace ever got solved; and the hours were ridiculous â for example, some days Alex worked from four a.m. until nine a.m. Who in their right mind wants coffee at four oâclock in the morning?
The only other thing â or rather, the only other person â that might have stood any chance of making Alexâs job worthwhile also made it worse. They would have been perfect if only for the fact that they wouldnât tell Alex their goddamn name.
He was a regular at Eats ânâ Beats and seemed to come into the shop at least once on every one of Alexâs shifts. He was, in Alexâs eyes, utterly perfect â beautiful tawny skin, long dark hair sometimes twined into a bun at the base of his neck, and the most adorable smile Alex could imagine. It was downright unfair how attractive he was, and how funny, kind, and smart he was too.
If only he would tell Alex who he was.
Every single time he came in the shop, the guy ordered the same drink (hot chocolate with cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, the works) and every time Alex would ask for his name. Every single time he had received a different answer.
The first few times he had hardly noticed. The second time the guy came in the coffee shop he had told Alex his name was Horatio â Alex could have sworn his name had been Patrick the week before, but it was possible that he was misremembering, so he hadnât thought anything of it. But the next time the guy came in his name had been Edmund. After that it had been Marcus, then Jason, then Rudy, Stewart, Bob, Milo. The names had got increasingly weirder; just yesterday Alex had scrawled Megamind on the guyâs to-go cup. Before that it had been Sherlock.
As lovely as the guy was, Alex often found himself complaining to his friends about him and his lack of naming consistency, usually on his too-short breaks.
âHe just seems like a really cool guy,â he was saying to his co-workers Carrie and Julie one day as they all sat around a small, cramped table in the staff room. âIâd really like to get to know him but he seems intent on me not knowing him at all!â
Alex could practically hear Carrie rolling her eyes. âWe know youâd like to get to know him,â she muttered, âitâs all you ever talk about.â
âThatâs not true,â Alex protested. âI talk about other things!â
âLike what?â Carrie asked, raising a perfectly trimmed eyebrow.
âLike the band,â Alex returned.
Julie shook her head. âOnly if I bring it up first. And your contribution is usually something along the lines of âI wish coffee shop guy would come to one of our gigs, how cool would that be?ââ
âThatâs notâ Iâ okay.â Alex sighed, then said under his breath, âAlthough it would be kinda cool if he did come to one of our shows.â
Carrie sighed dramatically. âYou are so far gone itâs painful to listen to.â
âJust ask him out,â Julie said, smiling fondly. âI see the way he grins at you when he gives you a ridiculous fake name â his smile is so wide it practically falls off his face!â
âI donât want to ask him out,â Alex lied. It wasnât as if a lie like that could work on Julie and Carrie anyway; they both rolled their eyes and crossed their arms, eerily in sync with each other. âI donât! I just want to get to know him.â
âIsnât that the same thing?â Julie said.
âNo. I wanted to get to know you guys without wanting to date you.â
âThatâs because youâre gay,â Carrie said matter-of-factly, âand Julie and I are, correct me if Iâm wrong, girls.â
âThatâs fair,â Alex conceded. âBut I donât want to ask him out.â
Julie patted his hand. âSure, Alex.â
A few minutes later, their break ended and the three friends made their way back out front to the shop. It was bustling and busy, and the co-worker Alex took over from on the register looked one customer away from breaking down into a mess of tears.
Alex, Julie, and Carrie (each manning their stations either on the cash register, at the coffee machine, or calling orders) started working, getting drinks and snacks for everyone. In the first five minutes, only one person yelled at Alex for accidentally spelling their name wrong on the cup, which passed as a good five minutes in his book.
Alex wouldnât deny that he was watching the door, waiting for someone specific to come in. So maybe he was a little distracted, and maybe he did mess up a few orders or names, and maybe he could feel Julie and Carrie fondly glaring at him for being a little bit elsewhere, but it wasnât really his fault. It was entirely Cute No-Nameâs fault and if asked that was exactly who Alex would blame.
Eventually, with only ten minutes to go until closing time when the customers had dwindled down to just one or two every few minutes, the door swung open and the guy finally came in. There was something a little different today, and Alexâs throat went dry when he saw it â Cute No-Name had a skateboard tucked under his arm and removed his helmet as he entered the shop.
There was no queue at this hour, so he sauntered right up to Alex, a wide smile on his face.
âHey, hotdog,â the guy said. It was a name heâd started using for Alex after seeing that one of the many things he had embroidered on his work apron was a hotdog (right between the rainbow flag and the drumsticks). Alex didnât like the nickname, but No-Name couldnât be stopped.
âHey,â Alex replied, clearing his throat. âHey, how are you?â
âIâm good,â No-Name replied. âYou?â
âYeah, yeah, great,â Alex said. He was aiming for a casual tone, but judging by Carrie and Julieâs poorly masked snickers he was not doing a very good job. âYou want the usual?â
âYeah, thanks, man,â the guy said. âTo-go, please.â
Alex nodded, punching the price into the cash register and giving the guy his total. After he had been paid, Alex picked up a to-go cup and a permanent marker, turning to No-Name again. âSo, whatâs your name today?â
No-Name considered for a moment, then grinned. Maybe Julie was right, Alex thought â nobody could find this whole thing so funny that theyâd smile that wide.
âIâm Batman,â the guy said. The worst part was that he did the voice too.
Alex groaned and shook his head, fighting a smile as he scrawled âBatmanâ on the cup. âOf course you are. Carrie,â he called over his shoulder, holding the cup out. âThis guyâs usual, please.â
Carrie didnât take the cup. Instead, giggling along with Julie, she said, âSorry, but who is âthis guyâ?â
âCarrie,â Alex said warningly.
âWho is he, Alex?â Julie asked, face bright with laughter.
âNot you too,â Alex said. Carrie, Julie, and No-Name were all properly laughing now. âI seriously canât be the only one who doesnât find this funny.â
âWhatâs his name, Alex?â Carrie asked between laughs.
Alex scowled at her. âBatman.â
Finally, Carrie took the cup and started making âBatmanâsâ drink. Alex, shaking his head exasperatedly, turned back to face No-Name.
âCan I ask what your actual name is?â he said while Julie and Carrie were distracted by throwing marshmallows at each other, clearly not listening. âGenuinely. Because you always give a fake or different name and I⊠I mean, I just want to know who you really are.â
No-Nameâs beam faded to a smaller, more delicate, warmer smile. âSure, hotdog. Itâs Willie.â
It was really that easy? All heâd had to do this whole time was ask?
âReally? No joking around this time?â The guy nodded. Alex thought for a moment and then said, âWillie what?â
Willie shrugged and leaned on the counter. He wasnât that close, but Alex felt as if they were practically nose-to-nose. He wouldnât have admitted how much that made his heart race.
âIt depends,â Willie said. âWhatâs yours?â
Alex furrowed his brow, confused, but still said, âItâs Mercer.â
The mischievous grin was back. Willie straightened up and said, âWell, in that case, hopefully one day itâll be Willie Mercer.â
Alex felt his jaw drop, heard Julie gasp, and heard Carrie not-so-quietly utter a swear.
Willie was the only one who seemed unaffected. He beamed over at Carrie, saying, âIs my drink nearly ready? Iâve got a skatepark to get to.â
With shaking hands, Carrie passed Willie his drink, and after theyâd all said their goodbyes she slapped Alexâs arm. Repeatedly. Hard.
âHe likes you,â she hissed. She almost sounded angry, but Alex knew that she was simply passionate about something potentially going right in his love life for once. âHe totally likes you!â
âYou think so?â Alex asked sceptically. âBecause he could have just been jokingââ
Julie scoffed. âThat guyâs idea of a joke is giving a fake name at a coffee shop, not the implication of marriage.â
Alex couldnât help it. He let himself smile and felt himself blush.
âSo,â Julie continued, âwill you ask him out now?â
Alex looked at the floor, still smiling sheepishly. âIâll think about it,â he mumbled through his smile.
In the end, it didnât really take much thinking about. Willie came in again the next day, even though it was one of Alexâs four-til-nine shifts. At six a.m. on the dot, Willie pushed the door open, the only customer in the shop.
âHey, hotdog,â he greeted as usual, coming over and leaning against the counter.
âHey, Willie,â Alex returned, smiling. He couldnât believe he had a real name to use for this guy now; it made his heart beat in a way that was far too over the top for the situation. Without asking what Willie wanted or for a name to put on his cup, he set about making the drink. âYou went skating yesterday, right? How was it?â
Willie grinned, fiddling with a ribbon on a charity collection tub. âIt was fun. I mastered a trick Iâve been trying to learn for months. Have you ever skated?â
âYep,â Alex said, voice dripping with sarcasm. âLoads of times.â
Willie laughed. Alex adored the sound, and the way Willieâs eyes crinkled with his smile as he giggled. He felt his heart beat even faster. âSo thatâs a no. Maybe I could teach you sometime.â
âIâm not sure you really want to do that,â Alex said, handing over the drink, the name âWillieâ written on the side of the cup. âI donât think Iâm exactly badass skater material.â
âStill,â Willie said with a shrug. âItâd be fun. And we could make it a date. If you want.â
Yet again, Alex felt his jaw drop. âWait, really? You want to⊠okay. You want to go on a date with me?â
Willie said nothing, just smiled brightly.
âI⊠I mean, yeah,â Alex continued, feeling very flustered, overwhelmed by the butterflies in his stomach. They were happy butterflies though â unnaturally happy. âYeah, I also want to go on a date. With you. Thank you. People probably donât say âthank youâ when theyâre asked on a date, do they? That was probably weird, Iâm sorryââ
Willie laughed and Alex stopped talking. He wouldnât have been surprised if the whole world stopped, if the Earth ceased its spinning every time Willie made that sound.
âItâs a date,â Willie said, grinning. âAre you free today?â
Alex choked to find his voice and said, âYeah, I finish at nine.â
âCool, bro, Iâll be here to pick you up then. Sound good?â
âSounds great,â he returned. Once again, he wasnât quite sure he hit his target of âcoolly disinterestedâ and instead landed at âso disinterested that it was obvious that he was interestedâ. âIâll see you then.â
âCatch you later, hotdog,â Willie said, saluting as he left the coffee shop, the bell on the door ringing behind him.
Alex couldnât help but do an excited little jump and something that might have passed for a happy dance, but there was nobody there to see him so it didnât matter. He couldnât wait to tell Julie and Carrie about this.

Summary: Denali and Rosé were best friends all through middle and high school, but had to part ways after graduating in 1998. But even years later, the one thing that always connected them were the mixtapes Rosé would make.

âDenali, so help me god if youâre late to graduation you will not make it to college!â her mother shouted up the stairs.
Denali groaned and rolled her eyes. âIâm coming!â she yelled back down to her. She pressed âstopâ on her CD player and popped the cover open, taking the disk out and putting it into its correct sleeve in her CD book. It was a smaller one, as it only contained her most precious ones - the mixtapes RosĂ© had given her over the years.
The two of them had been best friends since they had both transferred to the same Manhattan school in sixth grade, Denali coming from Alaska and RosĂ© from Scotland. Both of them had felt out of place and immediately sought refuge in each other and had been inseparable ever since. And one thing that had always been consistent in their friendship was RosĂ©âs love of burning CDs and giving them to her, whether it was for a special occasion or just because she thought Denali would like it, and she always did.
âAnd donât even think about trying to take your walkman!â
She huffed, looking at it waiting for her on her bed. âFine,â she threw her gown over her dress and grabbed her cap before hustling out the door.
Any attitude she might have had disappeared the second she got out of the car and saw RosĂ©. she sprinted towards the taller girl, launching herself into her arms. âRosie!â
RosĂ© scooped Denali up without hesitation, one arm wrapped around her waist and the opposite hand holding her thigh. âHi Dee,â she cooed, spinning around with her before eventually setting her back down. âI got something for you.â
Denali giggled as RosĂ© reached up under her gown because of course, she would manage to get away with wearing pants at graduation. She beamed from ear to ear as RosĂ© placed a CD in her hand. Written in pink glitter gel pen over masking tape was âDenali + RosĂ©: Class of â98â, with a heart over the âiâ. She looked at the tracklist and smiled when she saw one was highlighted - that meant RosĂ© had recorded herself singing, and that was her favorite part. âSuper Trouper?â she tilted her head, noting it was the only song on the list that hadnât come out during their time in high school.
She shrugged, a tinge of pink ghosting her cheeks. âI like ABBA and the song made me think of you.â
âI love it,â she quickly assured, hugging her tightly before sliding the mixtape into her macrame crossbody bag. âCome on, we better go take our seats so we can say goodbye to our childhood.â
RosĂ© arched her brow. âBit grim when you put it that way, but letâs go.â
After graduation RosĂ© and Denali went to dinner together with their families, then back to Denaliâs house for a sleepover, likely one of the last ones they would have before college. But they didnât want to think about that, instead focusing on enjoying the time they had together.
It wasnât easy for either of them, and Denali was left with a difficult decision. When she was twelve, she acknowledged the fact that she was attracted to girls, but decided it was best to not do anything about it. At sixteen, she realized that it wasnât just girls in general, that would be too easy to ignore. For the past two years, she had accepted the fact that she was in love with RosĂ©, but too paralyzed with fear to do anything about it.
So, she made a mixtape. Each song one declaration of love after another. And it had been sitting in her closet for a week now while she tried to talk herself into giving it to her best friend. She knew it was now or never, tonight had to be the night.
âSomething on your mind?â RosĂ© gently prompted.
Denali hesitated, then shook her head. âIâm just gonna miss you,â she told her, sitting next to her cross-legged on the bed. âWeâre gonna stay in touch, right?â
âOf course,â RosĂ© assured. âWe can call each other and talk on AIM when we can get to the campus libraries,â she suggested, resting her hand on Denaliâs thigh and squeezing gently. âI think we can make it work.â
She chewed on her lip and nodded. âIf you think so, then I do too.â She glanced back at her closet, thinking, her heart racing. RosĂ© cared enough about her to want to make their friendship work. Maybe there was a chanceâŠ
âHey,â RosĂ© prompted to change the subject, âI rented Cinderella with Brandi from Blockbuster, you wanna watch?â
Denali nodded, letting her fear quell her desire to give her the disk. âYeah, Iâll go make some popcorn.â
Six Years Later
Manhattan felt almost as foreign to Denali as it did when she first moved there. Despite the nostalgia that filled her when she walked past Broadway, recalling seeing RENT there with Rosé for her eighteenth birthday, or the other little things that brought her back to her teenage years, she felt odd, out of place. It made her stomach churn with the way everything seemed to change.
It didnât help that, despite all of the promises they had made to each other, she had lost touch with RosĂ© sometime after the start of her sophomore year. Their lives had gotten so busy, so involved, it just dissipated and she had to try her best to move on.
And most days Denali was able to go about her life as normal. She returned to her apartment with lunch for herself and her roommate. Her new normal. âLiv! Come eat!â
Olivia promptly emerged from her room, a piece of paper in her hand. âCheck out this flyer I snagged from the cafĂ© a few blocks over. Theyâre having a karaoke night tonight, we should go,â at Denaliâs hesitation, she jutted out her bottom lip and batted her lashes. âCâmon, please? Theyâre gonna have alcohol.â
With a jokingly dramatic sigh, she acquiesced. âOkay, fine, but donât even think about trying to drag me on stage before Iâve had at least three drinks.â
After lunch, the two of them got ready for the night, doing their hair and makeup and picking out just the right outfits for the modern y2k-era nightlife. The walk to the café was about ten minutes and they were able to get a table before the room started to fill up. Her attention faded in and out as people started to perform, nursing her drink and picking at the chips on the table.
âAlright, whoâs next?â the event host prompted, scanning the room. âYou, in the pink, right this way!â There were some scattered cheers as a woman took the stage, but Denali didnât look up until she started singing.
Olivia noticed the sudden alertness in her friend. âWhat, youâre an ABBA fan?â
âNo, no I know that voice,â she insisted, shushing her to focus on the stage better. There was no way, it couldnât beâŠ
âBut I wonât feel blue like I always do. âCause somewhere in the crowd thereâs-â RosĂ© looked into the audience, her eyes meeting Denaliâs and her breath hitching in her throat, nearly missing the last word, but when she got it out, it was as if she were singing to her once again, â...you.â
Before Denali could decide what to do, RosĂ© was making a beeline for her, then she was standing right in front of her, looking more beautiful than Denali couldâve ever anticipated. âRosie?â she asked softly, afraid it was too good to be true.
A broad smile stretched across RosĂ©âs face as if she were wondering the same thing until that moment. âDenali!â She yanked the smaller woman to her feet and pulled her into a tight embrace, one that neither of them ever wanted to end. âWhen did you move back to New York?â
âCouple weeks ago officially. My parents moved out to Long Island, so I was staying with them while I was trying to find a place. Thatâs how I met Olivia, my roommate,â Denali explained, gesturing to the girl still sitting at the table.
Olivia offered a polite wave and smile in response. âIt seems like you guys have some catching up to do, Iâm gonna go on stage next then, um, keep myself busy,â she decided and scurried off.
âLetâs go outside,â RosĂ© suggested, the two of them leaving the cafĂ© and sitting on a bench in front of it. âIâve missed you so much. What have you been up to?â
Denali shrugged. âGot my BFA in dance, worked with a few different companies either performing or choreographic. And last year I was in Zumanity, which was quite the experience,â she blushed a bit as she recalled that, unsure if RosĂ© was familiar with the type of show it was, âand now Iâm here as a full-time dance teacher and choreographer. What about you?â
RosĂ©âs eyes did widen at the name, feeling her face start to redden as her mind started to wander, wondering what sort of things Denali had performed on stage. While she hadnât seen the show, she had seen commercials when watching TV late at night. Sheâd nearly missed her question, clearing her throat and centering herself. âOh, well, my life hasnât been as interesting as yours, I got my BFA in musical theatre, did various off-Broadway gigs, and⊠youâre going to laugh⊠Iâm the understudy for the lead role in Mamma Mia here on Broadway.â
âMamma Mia⊠the ABBA jukebox musical?â She covered her mouth as she tried not to laugh, a bit of giggling slipping through. âA little on the nose, isnât it Rosie? But Iâm very happy for you.â
âMaybe so, but Iâm much more interested in this Zumanity stint. I mean, I always knew you had that skill level but thatâs a⊠unique setting,â RosĂ© retorted, her interest, and perhaps something more, very piqued.
Denali looked down and grinned. âIt was. Everyone there was incredibly talented too, it was so freeing, so queer,â she said, then hesitantly looked back up to reaffirm, âwhich I also am, you know, gay.â
RosĂ© chuckled softly and nodded. âI kind of suspected as much, just with the way you reacted when we saw RENT,â she recalled, then quickly followed up with, âI am too.â
An eight-year-long weight lifted from Denaliâs chest at the confession. âDo you wanna come back to my place? Itâs just a couple of blocks over, we can have a sleepover like we used to,â she suggested.
âIâd love that,â she grinned, and as they walked back to the apartment, she had her arm slung around Denaliâs shoulders, not passing up the first opportunity in years to keep her close. Even though it was an apartment sheâd never been in before, the fact that it was Denaliâs made it feel familiar.
Denali toed out of her shoes and set her purse down. âI have something for you,â she said suddenly, disappearing into her bedroom before RosĂ© to question her. She rifled through her closet, pulling out a box tucked away and grinning when she found the items she was looking for. It was still a risk, but this time she knew it was one worth taking. She took a deep breath, then rejoined RosĂ© in the living room. âI kept every mixtape you gave me, still listen to them sometimes,â she said, holding up the CD book in one hand.
âYou did?â RosĂ© put her hand over her chest, beaming warmly. âDee, thatâs so sweet.â
She smiled, biting her lip and looking down, trying to fight away the nerves that crept back up. âI, um, I made you one too. I was going to give it to you after graduation but I chickened out,â she confessed as she handed the mixtape she had hidden among her possessions all these years to the woman she made it for. âI think the tracklist will explain why.â
RosĂ©âs lips parted in surprise as she gently took it from her. âTo Rosie, with love,â she read the title before turning it over to see where Denali had written the songs in silver sharpie. And, sure enough, it was one love song after another, songs she knew well, that she knew the shorter woman spent her time carefully picking out each one. âOh, Dee, this is beautiful. Honestly, I donât know what I wouldâve done if you gave it to me back then.â
Denali swallowed thickly. âI guess more importantly, what are you gonna do now?â
There was only a half-beat of silence before RosĂ© smirked, setting the disk on the dining room table before cupping Denaliâs face and kissing her deeply, moving one hand from her face to wrap her arm around her body and pull her close. âIâve always loved you, Denali. Iâd just resigned myself to seeing you as the one that got away.â
Denali relaxed, arms looping around RosĂ©âs neck. âIâm not going anywhere.â

Belated Spring 2020Â Anime Overview: My Next Life as Villainess
For the Spring 2020 anime season, I mostly watched continuations of shows I was already into. The one new show I did pick up was My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! follows Katerina Claes, a spoiled young noble girl deviously scheming to win the heart of a prince- oh wait, never mind, she hit her head and remembered her past life! Turns out sheâs an eighteen year old Japanese otaku chick who died and got reincarnated as the villainess in her favorite otome game.Â
If you donât feel like reading the wiki article, an otome game is basically a female- targeted dating sim where you play as a blank slate main character and date a bunch of pretty boys (and sometimes girls, but usually only if you go outside the mainstream ones), unlocking their backstories and collecting all the romantic endings.
Having played this game, Katarina is well aware that the Villainess character- who constantly tries to interfere with the gameâs heroine and whichever boy sheâs pursuing- is either exiled or killed in all of the games endings. And now she IS that villainess, living in the world of the game and all its characters! Does that mean sheâs doomed to a horrible fate? Whatâs a girl to do?
Well, if youâre Katarina, what you do is be supportive and kind to the people around you and in doing so accidentally get every single character in the game to fall in love with you. And yes, this includes all the boys the heroine is supposed to date, the other female romantic rivals the heroine is faced with and the gameâs heroine herself.
Thatâs right, we finally got us some bisexual romantic comedy hijinx last anime season, my friends! My Next Life as a Villainess was the delightful little show I really escaped into during these anxious pandemic times . All these girls casually falling in love with Katarina without it being treated as âweirdâ was what particularly drew me to this show and warmed my gay little heart to see. It was honestly the perfect fluffy, low stress watch during these high stress times.
Anime has long been oversaturated with âharemâ stories- where a usually unwitting protagonist somehow gets a bevy of beauties in love with them- but itâs still unfortunately really unusual to see bisexual harems, especially ones with a girl at the center, so right away thereâs a big draw to this story that helps it stick out from the rest. (And worry not, the story is largely focused on Katarina having fun with these pals-who-are-not-so-secretly-in-love-with-her, rather than having a ton the dubious shenanigans you see in more sexually charged tales.)
Harem protoganists also famously tend to have the personality of potatoes, being so painfully bland itâs unclear why so many people would fall in love with them in the first place. But that definitely not the case for Katarina. Sheâs brash, ridiculous, kind and INCREDIBLY dense, and that for a pretty dynamic combination in this setting! She does genuinely come off as a fun person to be around. Unlike a lot of modern isekai shows, she doesnât stumble into having incredible magic powers or skills, so her compassion is genuinely her greatest strength and what saves the day and wins hearts time and time again.
Katarinaâs five brain cells doing their weekly check-in
(The moment she won my heart was when she responded to a tragic Frozen style situation with her friend locking himself away from people because he believed his magic was dangerous by taking an axe to his door. My kinda girl!)
The premise also allows for some plausible built-in reasons for the characters to take such special notice of Katarina- having been raised in a different world, she isnât beholden to all the social rules, class divisions and noble family drama all the other kids in this very specific midevial-esque fantasy world are so embroiled in. This combined with her naturally earnest, accepting and straightfoward nature means sheâs able to cross boundaries and reach out to them in a way they arenât accustomed to. She was significant in each characterâs life because she genuinely was the first to show them acceptance and affection without pretense, if only because she isnât even aware there was supposed to be a pretense.
Katarinaâs focus on trying not to die and her fear sheâs going to meet the same fate as the villainess in the game also at least gives some kind of a basis to her comical obliviousness to everyone being in love with her. She assumes that everyone has to be into Maria (the heroine) and terrified of her because thatâs how the game GOES okay, thatâs CANON! Of course, this logic stretches thin as time goes on and it would be abundantly clear to most people that things have diverged greatly from the gameâs storyline, but the show makes it clear that Katarinaâs determined, one track mind is as much a gift as a curse.Â
Her bullheadedness when it comes to picking up how everyone REALLY feels about her is an intentional gag on the showâs part and even her love interests are well aware of what a colossal dumbass she is and not afraid to point it out!
My Next Life as a Villainess isnât without its flaws, and the personalities/backstories of some of the âlove interestsâ Katarina gathers may be a stumbling block on some- mostly the male ones. Geordo, âthe black hearted princeâ has a bit of the â possessive shoujo bad boyâ archetype about him, and though heâs far from the worst that genre of love interest has to offer (thereâs not much bad he can get up to due to Katarinaâs obliviousness, the lighthearted nature of the show, and his rivals constantly getting in his way), the way he refuses to break Katarina and his engagement off despite her repeatedly asking him to, as well as some of his lines here and there, are definitely NOT cute.Â
Keith is Katarinaâs adopted brother, but clearly has a thing for her too. On one hand, they only first met when they were nine and he fell for her pretty immediately. On the other hand, he still refers to her as âsisterâ constantly which is kinda eesh.Â
The other two guys are all right- Nicolâs big thing is heâs inexpressive and doesnât talk much which, considering show doesnât spend much time inside his head, doesnât make him a very interesting character in the ensemble (maybe he comes across better in the novels) but thereâs nothing wrong with him. Alan is undoubtedly the Best Boy in my book. Heâs another common trope- rambunctious and competitive with Katarina but clearly soft for her- but heâs done well and they have a lot of cute moments together.
I find the girl love interests to be a much more interesting group overall, though this may be my obvious bias talking. Sophia has the strongest connection to Katarina, their backstories being intertwined in a surprising and touching way (Iâm told in the novels her affection for Katarina was treated as more platonic, but the anime definitely plays it up as having romantic elements). Mariaâs original role as the gameâs heroine puts her in the most interesting position (and would make her the most narratively satisfying choice of love interest, if the show was actually interested in choosing). And while Mary is comically tenacious in her pursuit of Katarina, sheâs doesnât ever act âsinisterâ or overstep boundaries in the way Geordo does, her âschemingâ only really amounting to straightforwardly asking if Katarina wants to ditch her fiance and run away with her.Â
As I mentioned, one thing that really contributes to My Next Life as a Villainess being a relaxing watch is that the queer characters are treated with casual acceptance. Mary in particular isnât subtle about her crush on Katarina, but nobody bats an eye at her and sheâs completely open and comfortable with herself too. The observing maid notes that the girls are in love with Katarina with the same bland affect as when she notes she notes the guys are. And while the social practices of the nobles are pretty heteronormative- girls are always engaged in arranged marriages to guys, the guys are expected to dance with the girls (something Mary complains about!)- thereâs apparently a booming queer romance novel industry that inspires our young wlw.
Katarina, having grown up in a different world, seems to be the one most prone to heteronormativity of her group. She never really considers that a girl would ever fall in love with her, but is also never hostile to the idea. Itâs telling that when Mary very clearly indicates her desired romantic partner would be a girl, Katarinaâs the only one that gets tripped up and has to walk back her assumption that Mary would be talking about a guy.Â
Mary LAYING DOWN THE LAW
Also, Katarina has SEVERAL âsheâs so cute! My heart is beating faster!â moments with the other girls, on par in frequency with her moments with the guys. This strongly hints sheâs an oblivious bisexual disaster.
So, My Next Life as Villainess is a fun, frothy watch and the rare positive example of silly wish-fufillment thatâs inclusive to a wlw audience. But is the actual plot good, or remotely complex? The answer to that is no, the plot is fairly predictable and one definitely shouldnât got into this story expecting a deep examination of the nature of fate or anything like that.Thereâs no real explanation of big reason as to why why Katarina was reborn into this game world and so on.
The antagonist that does eventually emerge plays off otome game tropes a bit, but ultimately isnât that interesting or built up all that well. . The attempts at drama the show makes towards the end fall a little flat, especially since it tends to rely on very-late-in-the-game-exposition-dumps (dark magic isnât even MENTIONED as existing in this world until like, the second to last episode where it becomes relevant and we get a vague infodump explaining its mechanics). The conflict honestly almost feels shoehorned in and the climax is pretty standard and doesnât really utilize the big cast of characters all that well
But in the end, thatâs okay! The show makes it abundantly clear from the beginning itâs not here to be Deep, but to be some silly fun. And it really fulfills that purpose well, from itâs catchy, peppy theme tune to its consistently warm tone. It MAY get repetitive at times for some, and I do have some quibbles- like how I found the childhood segments to be some of the shows best material and wish we could have stayed in that section for a bit instead of rushing through it, how I wish Katarina had kept her cute little scar, etc- but overall, it was definitely the soothing balm I needed during a very rough time and I absolutely recommend it if youâre looking for a chill, feel-good watch.
And hey, a second seasonâs supposed to be on the way too, so thereâs something to potentially look forward to!

This is for @phupha because it's gonna be too long for an ask. It's Phupha love time. This is long, so it continues under the cut:
So that man is a mess. We love him, but he's a mess. He's been alone for a long time, yes he has friends and yes he thought of Torfun as his sister, but he's been alone a lot. All of the Rangers and Dr Nam have mentioned that he's never really had anyone special, even if Yod and Rang have suspected that Torfun was that special person to him. (Itâs interesting that they don't know he's gay. It means that basically, only Dr Nam knows him completely, which is sad but not surprising.)
He's a man, who is dedicated to his cause: Protecting the village and the forests. He won't regret dying for it, but he will regret causing people, who care about him, pain if he does. So he's keeping people at a distance. Again, sad but understandable.
Then Torfun dies, the person who âkilledâ her isnât caught, and heâs tasked by his superior to protect his son, who is meant to take her place. He knows who Tian is, he might have heard stories about Tian, so heâs determined to keep his promise to his superior, but he has no illusion that he will like it. Both, the man Tian talked to, to become the volunteer teacher and several other villagers have mentioned that some students came to teach, only for the stories, the credit or the social media cloud. Torfun was probably one of very few, who actually stuck the term out, and who actually fell in love with the little village and its people. So no, Phupha doesnât think this boy, whoâs probably known for being fickle will be a good teacher. Heâs prepared to satisfy his whims, send him back home safe and sound and wait for the next teacher.
And then he meets Tian and the boy literally faints into his arms.Â
Talk about a meet-cute, that Phupha was not expecting.Â
So he spends time with Tian, first to fulfil his duty and then slowly just because heâs starting to like this kid. Heâs very different from the stories he might have heard or from what Phupha has expected. Heâs bright, heâs caring and most importantly, heâs really trying. And not just with the kids, heâs actively trying to integrate himself into the village and to help its people.Â
So something happens, that Phupha has absolutely not expected. He falls in love. Probably for the first time in years (if ever). He panics. And while heâs honestly a pro at flirting (seriously, some of his lines are amazing), when it comes to actual feelings and genuine moments, heâs utterly useless and itâs quite adorable.Â
So we have Phupha, a man whoâs constantly keeping people at a distance - too afraid to care for them in case they leave and too afraid to make them care for him, in case he dies - falling in love with the temporary volunteer teacher. Setting aside the fact that the kid is accident-prone, has a heart condition and canât keep himself out of trouble, heâs still going to leave eventually as all the teachers do.
And Phupha doesnât want him to be tied down. He wants him to thrive, to live the best life he can. What he, of course, doesnât realise is that Tian is currently living the best life he can. Heâs finally doing something he wants to do, heâs finally feeling like heâs achieving something and heâs finally happy. Phupha doesnât know that. He might know that Tian is happy in the moment, but he doesnât know that Tian was lacking happiness in the life he left behind.Â
So his initial thought is to send him packing. And Dr Nam manages to change his mind enough for him to actually ask Tian to stay longer.
They are happy.
And then the bombshell is dropped on that happiness, that Tian allegedly killed Torfun and has her heart. The bubble is burst and Phupha is overwhelmed. Weâve seen him struggle with emotions before. He keeps people at a distant, seems strict and silent and doesnât really know how to express himself. So something in him snaps. Itâs not rational to call Tian out in front of the whole village, itâs not planned or controlled. His feelings overwhelm him and he needs answers, so he snaps. Even Nam is surprised by his brash action. Phupha regrets it instantly, you can see the hurt in his eyes when heâs looking at a crying Tian - his own hurt and hurt for Tian because he still loves him, but his feelings are utter chaos.
So he reverts back to cold and distant.Â
Of course, we feel bad for Tian, but Phupha is absolutely within his right to pull away, to keep his distance and yes to be angry. Because this person, who managed to climb the walls he has built up, to find a place his heart and stay, lied: Not only that he knew of Torfun, but what happened to her. Again, the person who hit her was never found, the rangers never had the closure of knowing what exactly happened. And now, suddenly Phupha is confronted with the thought that the person he fell in love with was the culprit. It was a hit and run. In his mind, Tian hit Torfun and fled, causing her to die alone. Thatâs not something you can just get over. Thatâs betrayal and hurt and grief and renewed mourning. Heâs human. Heâs entitled to his feelings, he allowed to be irrational and to lash out. Of course, we feel for Tian. But why canât we also feel for Phupha?
And then everything happens at once. He finds out that Tian didnât kill Torfun after all, he finds him captured and he gets shot. They talk, they makeup and finally it seems that they have a chance at happiness. Their issues are talked about, their feelings are pretty open and itâs peaceful. And then Tianâs father and Phuphaâs superior has to return and drop another bombshell on both of them.Â
And yes, Phupha is making a mistake here, but heâs genuinely feeling that itâs the right thing to do. Heâs heartbroken but itâs for Tian. As mentioned before, he doesnât know that Tian didnât leave much behind in Bangkok. He hears about his parents missing him, hears about what Tianâs allegedly giving up and thinks that he has to keep Tian from making a mistake. Phupha doesnât have his parents anymore, he himself didnât really have any other plans than follow in his fatherâs footsteps. Heâs used to his linear life, but he doesnât think that Tian realises what he might be giving up if he chooses to stay. Stay in the village and also stay with Phupha. It doesnât occur to him that Tian has a very different relationship with his parents than he himself probably had. That Tian didnât find happiness in all the choices he had in Bangkok but did find happiness in the small bubble that is Pha Pun Dao.Â
So we get the frustrating montage of âI will make you hate me, so you leaving wonât hurt you as muchâ.Â
He should have talked to Tian about it, should have given him enough credit that heâs mature enough to know what he wants in life. He should have, yes, but he truly does want whatâs best for Tian. And thanks to Dr Nam, Tian also realises Phuphaâs actual intentions. He might not like them, but at least he knows them.
Tian asks him if he will forget about him. Itâs telling that Phupha doesnât ask him the same. Yes, he gives him the ring, but thatâs more a sign of his love for Tian than something for Tian to remember him by. Phupha thinks Tian will return to Bangkok and forget about him. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. âIt will hurt for a while but eventually it will fade.â He said to Nam. He didnât mean himself, he meant Tian.
That idiot is absolutely sure that Tian will return to Bangkok and forget about him. I canât wait for him to realise that heâs worth so much more in Tianâs eyes.
Again, heâs a mess and we love him.
Heâs human. Heâs allowed to be a mess.

6) (i) from the AU list for ironhusbands? đđ
Youâve got a date tonight and you asked for advice on what to wear but Iâm so in love with you and damn you look good in the outfit I picked out for you.
âRhodey Rhodey Rhodey! I need help!â Tony cried out as he burst through the front door of their drafty apartment.
Rhodeyâs head shot up to look at him, but he didnât move from the nest heâd created on their couch. He was wrapped in several blankets with a few large stacks of books and notebooks surrounding him. Mid-Terms started next week, and he had a lot of material to get through.
As Tony stumbled over some of Rhodeyâs books on his way into the living room, he finally noticed all of the shopping bags that Tony was carrying.
âDid you get a haircut?â Rhodey asked, seeing that his friendâs usually unkempt hair was freshly trimmed and styled.
âYeah, and I got a bunch of new clothes. I have a date! An actual date! And all of my clothes are trash and Iâve got no idea what to wear so I went to the mall and just like bought everything that looked cool because I just really want her to think Iâm cool.â Tony rambled as he dropped the bags to the floor and started tearing through them.
âWait, hold up. You have a what?â
âA date!â Tony said with a big smile.
âWith who?â Rhodey asked as he closed his book, realizing that this was going to be a thing. Tony didnât date. If he wasnât at the apartment he was either at class or in the robotics lab, and he didnât really have any other friends.
Until this year, at least. Tony was 17 and finally the same age as some of his fellow classmates, so Rhodey had noticed him being a bit more social. Still, Rhodey felt very protective, and while heâd never admit it out loud, he kind of missed having Tony all to himself.
âUh, Amy Lin? Sheâs a freshman! And sheâs on the robotics team and sheâs just super cool and smart and we were sitting outside today and she was like 'hey do you want to go out sometime?' and I was like 'what do you mean, we're already outside.' and then she laughed and was like 'no like...go out. On a date.' and I just felt like such an idiot and I didn't know what to say but eventually I managed to say yes I think and well now we're going on a date! And I have no idea what to wear, you gotta help me. Everything I own is ripped or has burn holes from welding or is covered in grease and who knows what else and I just want to look good."
Rhodey resisted the urge to tell him that he'd look good in a paper bag, and did his best to swallow his own jealousy before he started helping him look through the bags.
The crush on Tony was very new.Â
Two years ago Tony had just been this quiet, nerdy kid who didn't know how to do his own laundry and was afraid of his own shadow. This year though? This year he was just different. Over the Summer he'd grown a few more inches, gotten his braces off, discovered contact lenses, and overall just came off as more mature and confident. Rhodey's jaw had literally dropped when he saw him for the first time at the beginning of the semester, and ever since then he'd been struggling with a lot of feelings.
"Uhh, ok. Well first of all, where are you going?" Rhodey asked as he pulled out item after item, which ranged from a leather jacket to a tuxedo, so he wasn't sure what the vibe was going to be.
"Bowling."
Rhodey just laughed. "You bought a brand new tuxedo to go bowling? Is that what you rich white people do?"
"I...I mean, I don't know. She mentioned maybe getting dinner at one point and I think I just panicked like what if she wanted to go somewhere fancy instead of bowling and all of a sudden and I just started grabbing everything I could possibly need." Tony explained, sounding a bit exasperated.
"Dude, take a deep breath. It's going to be ok."
"I know I just...I want to do everything right. I want her to like me, ya know?"
"She will! She already does. She asked you out, didn't she?"
"Yeah but...I don't know. I don't know what to do. I'm just not used to this. People liking me. Iâve always been so much younger than everyone at school and no one ever talked to me and I always just feel like I missed out on learning how to be a normal teenager. I donât know how to date." Tony admitted, being way more candid about his feelings than Rhodey was used to.
"You donât have to worry about that anymore. Just go out and have fun. Be yourself."
"Iâm just afraid sheâs going to see what a huge nerd I am and change her mind."
âYou guys are on the robotics team. Youâre both nerds. Itâll be fine.
âI just -Â
âTony.â Rhodey Interrupted. He hated when Tony got like this, and something in him just snapped. âStop being so down on yourself. Youâre funny and smart and sweet and you tell great stories and youâre so enthusiastic about your work and about learning new things so that you can change the world. Youâre incredible. And Iâm sorry that no one in your life has ever told you that before, but itâs all true and if she sees what I see then...then sheâll love you, ok?â
Tony was just staring at him like a deer in headlights, and Rhodey immediately knew that heâd said way too much. He just hated when Tony got like this, and he wanted him to just see how great he actually was.Â
âRhodey IâŠâ Tony started, clearly unsure of what to say in response to that, and Rhodeyâs stomach just dropped. Had he completely fucked this up? Had he made everything weird? There was nothing weird about telling your friend that you love him, right? Even if you did happen to have a huge crush on that friend?Â
They were both silent for what felt like forever, though in reality it was only a few seconds.
âYouâll be fine. Anyway. So when is this date?â
Tony glanced down at his watch. âIâm supposed to meet her in 45 minutes.â
âWell, then weâd better get to work.â Rhodey said as he stood up and grabbed an armload of clothes.
They made quick work of it, just putting Tony in jeans, a red t-shirt, the leather jacket, and a fresh pair of Chuck Taylors. They were a little quiet at first, but soon they found their way back to the joking and teasing they were used to. As Tony stood in the hallway trying to fix his hair the way the lady at the hair salon had told him too, Rhodey just stood back and admired his work. There was nothing spectacular about the clothes, but they were new and clean and fit him well. And the leather jacket was driving Rhodey crazy. As he watched Tony from behind, he wanted nothing more than to grab him, pin him against the wall, and have his way with him.
There were a million reasons why he shouldnât do that, especially since he was literally about to leave to go on a date with someone else. With a girl.
âHow do I look?â Tony asked, spinning around and giving him a big smile.
âGreat.â Rhodey replied simply, resisting the urge to say hot. He didnât want to make anything else weird.
Tony seemed unsure, but looked at his watch again and took a deep breath. âRight. Well, I gotta go. Thank you. For everything. Donât study too hard, all right?â He said with a little smile before taking one more look at himself in the mirror and then heading out.
Rhodey tried to focus on studying after that, but he just couldnât. He was jealous, he was embarrassed, and most of all he was horny. He took care of the latter problem a few minutes after Tony left, but after that he just laid on his bed and started at a crack in the ceiling while a million thoughts raced through his head.
This crush on Tony was stupid. Tony obviously wasnât gay, right? And being gay in the Air Force sounded like a not-so-great idea anyway, so Rhodey really had to work on resisting these crushes if he ever wanted the chance to fly. Still, he couldnât get that image of Tony in the leather jacket out of his mind, nor could he get over how jealous he felt.Â
He figured that the best way to get over it was to distract himself, so he got up, took a cold shower, ate some dinner, and settled in back on the couch to watch TV and wait for Tony to get home. Despite the jealousy, he wanted to hear about the date and how it went. He just wanted Tony to be happy, and if dating Amy made him happy, then heâd do his best to be enthusiastic about it. At least on the surface.
Not long after Rhodey settled on the couch Tony came home and immediately plopped down next to him.
âHey, youâre home early. Howâd it go?â Rhodey asked, genuinely shocked that he was home. It hadnât even been two hours, and he was just glad that he hadnât decided to jerk off again.
âYeah, it was fine. I mean, I had fun. We bowled and had some pizza and then sketched up an idea on a napkin for a bowling robot that we might try to build next week.â Tony said as he stared at the floor while fidgeting around with his zipper. âAnd then like, we were in the arcade part. Playing pinball. And she kissed me.â
âWell hey! Thatâs good, right?â
âI donât know. It was weird. I mean, Iâve never kissed anyone before so Iâve not got much to compare it too. But like, it was like kissing my sister. If I had a sister, I guess. I donât know. Just didnât do much for me.â Tony admitted quietly, and Rhodey had no idea how to respond to that. Luckily, Tony kept talking. âAnd then it was a little awkward and she said that she didnât feel like bowling anymore so we turned in our shoes and then she said that she thought that maybe we should just be friends.â
âOh. Well shit, that sucks man, Iâm sorry. But this is only your first date, there are plenty of other girls out there! Thereâs even at least 1 more on the robotics team, right? Iâm sure youâll find someone that makes you feel that spark.â Rhodey said as he put his hand on Tonyâs shoulder. He just didnât want him getting too down on himself.
Tony just looked up at him and smiled, and it was a look that Rhodey would have to file away to use later. âThanks. Yeah, itâs fine. She still wants to be friends, so thatâs good. Friends are good. Iâm gonna go change, ok?â
âSure.â
Tony stood up to head to his room, but then stopped and hesitated for a moment.
âTony? You all right?â Rhodey asked as Tony turned to look at him. He was quiet for a moment, like he was searching for what to say.
âAre you doing anything Friday night?â Tony finally asked.
âNo.â Rhodey answered, confused.
âDo you - would you be interested in like - going out?â
âW-what?â Rhodey stuttered out as his heart started pounding. This wasnât actually happening, was it?
âGo out? Like...on a date? I guess? Unless I read that whole situation earlier wrong.â
âIâŠâ Rhodey just trailed off, completely taken by surprise by all of this. âUm. A date?â
âYeah.â
âOh. Uh...ok. Yeah. We can do that, if youâre sure.â
Tony nodded. âIâm sure. Been thinking about it all night.â
âOh.â
âOk, so. Itâs a date, yeah? Dinner? Movie? I donât know, thatâs what people do, right?â Tony said as he shoved his hands deep into his jacket pockets.
âWeâll figure something out.â
Tony nodded again and turned to head to his room.
âHey, Tony?â Rhodey called out after him, causing Tony to stop and turn to him. âWhatever we do, promise me youâll wear the leather jacket.â Rhodey said with a confident little smile, finally regaining a bit of composure.
A huge grin spread across Tonyâs face, like he was finally relaxing too. âAll right.â
Rhodey was terrified, but also so excited that he couldnât imagine focusing on his notes anymore. After Tony disappeared Rhodey ran straight to his room and to his closet, desperately looking through all of his clothing. Nothing seemed good enough, so he figured heâd have to take a trip to the mall himself tomorrow. He wasnât sure he could look as good as Tony did in the leather, but he could certainly try.

Zukka Fic Recs
after atla came back into pop culture i found myself falling back in love with zukka which resulted in me reading (almost) every zukka fic on ao3 and here are my favorites
Transference by The_Quatermasters (146k)
In a modern AU, Zuko has to deal with settling in a new school after expulsion, dealing with an angry ex and an abusive father. Maybe his new found friendships and growing closeness with Sokka will help him make it through.Â
Borderlines by The_Quatermasters (73k)
Three years after the war, the work still isn't quite done and the Gaang is scattered across the continents in their efforts to help the world recover. When Aang and Katara pay visit to the Fire Nation where Zuko is Fire Lord and Sokka acts as Ambassador for the Water Tribe, sparks fly between the siblings over Sokka's life choices.
Ashes Inside When You Finish Your Song by Muncaster (47k)
Sokka writes lyrics for his sisterâs band. Zuko plays piano and is unnecessarily nice. Fellas, is it gay to write love songs about your friend and his golden eyes?
(AKA, a modern band AU featuring The Gaang, crappy software equipment, homoerotic lyrics, and the realization that maybe, if you think about a guy every night before you sleep, you just might be in love with him.)
sirens & sleepless nights by Satirrian (54k)
Life can be pretty hard living in a city under a totalitarian regime. Between adhering to the ridiculous curfew, keeping himself from being gunned down by a passing patrolman, and paying his unnecessary tolls to the state for, say, breathing, Sokka has his hands full just getting to work. Add aiding a resistance group on top of that, and Sokka should really be getting paid for this.
Then, one night, Sokka finds an injured patrolman collapsed in the street, who tells him with blood on his lips, âIf the patrol finds me, Iâm dead.â
 Real Slow by surveycorpsjean (21k)
âI see.â Zuko closes the scroll. âIs the Water Tribe sending a replacement?â
âUh yeah,â Sokka gestures to himself dramatically. âYouâre looking at him.â
 First by HoneyBadgerMole (20k)
Zuko has been nurturing a crush on the jock in his AP Psych class but he has been too scared to talk to him until they get paired up for a project.
the benefits of getting a flat tire by LesbeanLatte (64k)
Zuko makes an impromptu decision to run away from home after a disturbing conversation with Azula. Unfortunately, some plans are better when they're actually, well, planned. Zuko isn't counting on getting a flat tire almost as soon as he's far enough away from the city to really be in the middle of nowhere.
Sokka is immediately taken with the stranger he and his friends find stranded on the side of the road during an afternoon joy ride. However, he has no idea what he's getting involved with and a kind attempt to help a fellow teen in need turns into a massive coverup for a missing person who just so happens to be the son of the mayor of Ba Sing Se.
Azula was just trying to help her big brother - in her own way - by telling him things she thought he deserved to know. Now the situation has gotten wildly out of control. Did she enjoy seeing Zuko upset and afraid? Of course. Had she intended to endanger his life? Not necessarily, but of course, her idiot brother overreacted to everything and that's what happened and now she doesn't know how to stop the chain of events she's indirectly put in place like dominoes.
Operation Leverage by snowandfire (50k)
Sokka's instincts are onto something great. Zuko just wants to serve tea and brood in peace. Ironically, Toph is the only one who can see what's really going on.
 The Stingray by Smediterranea (24k)
âYouâre not carrying me.â
âI donât mind,â the lifeguard says easily.
âI can just hop over.â
âOn sand?â
Zuko will never admit it, but being carried feels pretty nice. The lifeguard sets him down and eyes him warily.
âAre you really all by yourself?â he asks in a worried tone. âNo friends in town you can call to check on you?â
âNo,â Zuko confirms. Tears are forming again with alarming speed; his foot throbs painfully with every passing second.
âWhat kind of burrito do you want?â
âYou donât have to ââ Zuko repeats.
âIâm getting al pastor. You like al pastor?â
AU: Zuko falls for Sokka, the super hot lifeguard who helps him after an unfortunate encounter with a stingray.
it's the illusion of separation by argentoswan (110k)
Sokka takes a job washing dishes at the new tea shop in town. It's a great gig, until he finds out his only coworker is his old high school bully. Sokka really should quit, but he also really needs to afford rent.
Also, Zuko is kind of hot now.
People like to think war means something by trying_to_spell_both_our_names_at_once (21k)
Sokka was the first to leave.
Somehow that hurt the most.
.
.
.
Not long after Zuko becomes Firelord, forces gather in the South and next thing he knows he's thrown into a civil war with almost no one by his side. Maybe healing is longer and more complicated than it needs to be, but with the right people by your side it is always possible.
a way that will destroy you by anothermistakemade (14k)
In the wake of Ozai's death, Zuko begins to fall apart. Sokka will do everything in his power to make sure that doesn't happen.
-
or, zuko might be losing his mind, but he also might just be really sad & traumatized
Those Who Favor Fire by CSHfic, VSfic (30k)
After a failed attempt on his life, Sokka fakes his death, dons a disguise, and infiltrates the would-be assassin's ranks in an attempt to bring them down from the inside.
Zuko learns of his husband's tragic death, mourns, and vows revenge.
Words Mean More at Night by DaisytheDoodleDog (28k)
Even ten years after the end of the war, rebellions rise and risk the balance of the nations. Sokka was willing to do anything to protect his people, which is perhaps why he's leading an army against the rebellion, attacking only as a last result. But Sokka's unwinding, it's taking a toll on him, and the only thing keeping him grounded are the letter Zuko and him exchange late in the night when no one can see the messenger hawks. But as they say, nothing's fair in love and war.
another word for wanting by eurydicees (23k)
Sokka begins to dream of his soulmate when he's eleven years old, and it just gets harder from there. Or, 125 moments soulmates share, and none of them come easy.
(In which your dreams are your soulmate's memories, and Sokka dreams of an all-consuming fire, growing and eating at his soulmate until it burns up the connection between their souls. In which they find love anyways.)
It Has Only Just Begun by Kirazalea (39k)
There is a bitter triumph in crashing when you should be soaring
Zuko had now chosen the path his uncle had been trying so hard to show him; he had someone who believed in him, who maybe loved him; he was travelling with the Avatar and they apparently had a plan to end the war.
By all accounts, Zuko should be smiling.
But Uncle was gone (captured by Azula, and Zuko didn't think she would kill him, but he didnât, couldnât, know for sure).
The Avatar was barely breathing (he could still die at any second and there was nothing any of them could do about it).
Azula had conquered the last Earth Kingdom stronghold (all those innocent people who were now at her mercy).
It seemed like, for every step Zuko took forward, the world sent him back three more.
But he was determined to push forward anyways.
He needed to make his uncle proud, even if it was the last thing he ever did.
aka: zuko joins the gaang at the end of season 2
Nightmares and Reveries by HisMomoness (20k)
Zuko doesn't sleep because when he does, he's haunted by nightmares. Sokka worms his way into a job and makes it his mission to get Zuko to relax. Lots of head pets and one vacation to the South Pole later, Zuko might just be getting the hang of it.
Cue pining, some fluff, and eventual romance.
The One Who Stopped Time by ohhihoney (66k)
All hope was lost to Zuko until one day, his uncle asked a random person at the Jasmine Dragon to tutor his nephew. Gritting his teeth and embarrassed beyond the point of no return, Zuko gave the blue eyed boy his number.
Little did Zuko know how much Sokka would change his world.
Rubbed Off Stars by ohhihoney (2k)
Sokka wasn't going to just sit and watch the boy at the back of the bus cry while trying to rub off pride flags off his cheeks.

WIP
Ozymandias, King of Kings by Think_of_a_Wonderful_Thought (168k)
After that fateful Agni Kai, Ozai makes a different call. Branded as a traitor and banished to a prison camp, Zuko learns how cruel the Fire Nation can be to its citizens. Three years, a water tribe raid, and an unexpected meeting with a gang of over-enthusiastic idealistic children puts Zuko back in the spotlight. The revolution is coming and it wants another poster boy, but Zuko is not willing to lend his face to the cause.
 Another Brother by AvocadoLove (312k)
It was a mission of revenge. There weren't supposed to be any survivors, but Chief Hakoda couldn't bring himself to kill the Fire Nation boy. Against his better judgment, he brought him home. A Zuko joins the Water Tribe story.

My Favorite Moments from It All Started with a Jacket (Chapters 1-10)
Now that I have written ten chapters of It All Started with a Jacket (how the hell are yâall still reading it), I thought I comemorate the occasion by sharing my favorite moments from each chapter. More specifically, every moment that was the most fun for me to write. This can range from moments that made me laugh at my own dumb jokes, or moments that I felt proud of for how well they turned out. Either way, this list is gonna be long. Like, rrrreeeaaallllllyyy lllooonnng. So you might want to strap in before clicking âKeep reading.â
Chapter 1
Amity and the car horn
"Oh no, you don't!" Luz sprinted over to Amity's car, to which her rival had already gotten in, and locked the doors. Just as Amity started the engine, Luz was already there, beating her hand against the window.
"If you think I'm too afraid to break a car window, you've got another thing--"
HOOONK!
"...You've got another--"
HOOOOOONK!
"You've got--"
Amity raised her hand above the car horn again with her eyebrow raised and her grin amused. She was essentially challenging Luz to finish that sentence.
"..."
"..."
"...You'vegotanotherthingcoming--"
HOOOOOOOOOONK!
"THAT TEARS IT!"
Amity sniffing Luzâs jacket (the main reason why I wrote this in the first place)
Amity set the hanger back where she found it and slowly lifted Luz's jacket up to her face. For a while, she did nothing, choosing instead to just stare at it. And then, she briefly took a small sniff.
'Well, that was a mistake,' was all she could think as intoxicating smells of pinecones and lemons started overtaking her senses. Almost immediately, Amity grabbed the jacket with both hands and shoved her face into it, inhaling more of the scent. After letting out a euphoric sigh, Amity looked at it again, shrugged, and put it back on.
Amityâs apology
"I said that I'm sorry." Amity continued, "Not just for the jacket, but for everything. The insults, the name-calling, and especially the fighting. I'm sorry for all of it."
"...Are you dying?"
"Wha--No!" now Amity turned to face Luz, "Why is that the first thing that came to your mind?"
"I don't know, man," Luz shrugged, "This just seems like some sort of final repentance type of shit. Like when Tom needed Jerry to sign him off to take the escalator to heaven."
"Who the hell is Tom and Jerry?"
"The greatest comic duo of all time, that's who!" Luz genuinely seemed insulted that Amity didn't know, to which she rolled her eyes in response.
Luzâs reaction
Luz opened the door and was about to leave. But then:
"I saw the bi flag."
After Amity spoke, Luz froze in her place. One foot was out the door, and her face was already turned away from Amity's, so she couldn't gauge an expression. So Amity took her chance to go on.
"It's hidden in a spot a person could barely notice, so there's no way that it came with the flag already sewn it," she explained, "Even if you bought the jacket from someone else, you could have easily torn it out. I've seen you done worse. But you kept it in, which makes me think that maybe...That maybe you're bisexual."
Luz didn't say anything.
She didn't do anything.
Instead, she stayed frozen in place, and Amity still couldn't tell what was going on in the human's mind at the moment. Not that she ever could. Eventually, Luz slowly and stiffly sat back in the passenger seat and slammed the car door shut. Her eyes were tight shut, and breathing was ragged, and Amity thought Luz was seething. But then Amity recognized what Luz was doing. She had done the same thing many times when forced to talk with her mother.
Luz was forcing herself not to cry.
Luzâs rant
"...Did you not tell anybody?" was all Amity could ask.
"...I told Willow," Luz confessed, "She has gay dads, so I thought: 'Hey, she gets it.' Other than that, nobody else knows. Except for you."
"Not even your mom?"
"Especially not her! She's super religious! If I came out to her, then I might as well pack a suitcase and get ready to live on the streets!"
"Why?"
"Because humans are not like witches," Luz looked back at Amity, clapping her hands for emphasis, "For humans, what matters in life is the color of your skin, the people you like, and the gender you're given at birth. Go against any of that, and you're screwed!"
"That's awful."
"That's life!" Luz stated, her eyes glistening, "And I had to put up with that bullshit for all of it! I had to deal with dumb gringas in the locker room who might think that I was a pervert just because I liked girls. I had to deal with pretending to be interested in one gender and hide a part of myself that people think I should be ashamed of! I had to deal with the fear that the one person I trust the most might throw me to the curb because of something that shouldn't even matter!"
Luz paused to wipe tears that had leaked out from her eyes.
"I had to deal with all of that," she went on, "Because that's just what humans are like. I wish we were like witches. I really do. But we're not, and the sad part is, we might never will."
Chapter 2
Luz is a prick
Luz kicked a discarded beer can down the sidewalk. Only to just as quickly picking it up and ditching it in a recycling bin that someone left out on the curb for trash day. Luz may be a rebel, but she isn't a lazy prick.
"And what the hell does me being bi have anything to do with it?"
"Bi what?"
Luz stopped both her walk and her ramblings after hearing that voice. Looking to her left, Luz saw a woman carrying her groceries to her house. That woman is Mrs. Kranstien, a white, middle-aged gossip who's part of Luz's mom's church group. Also known as the last person Luz wanted to find out that she's bisexual.
"Uh, bilingual," Luz brushed it off, seeming like she isn't panicking right now. Which she is. "Significa que hablo dos idiomas. What else could I mean?"
"Well, you don't have to be so rude about it," Mrs. Kranstien harrumphed, "It is not becoming of a young lady."
"Y no tienes que meter la nariz donde no pertenece," Luz shrugged, "Pero, ¿quién soy yo para juzgar?"
"...What does that mean?"
"It means you're absolutely right, and I am so sorry for being so rude," Luz turned on her heel and kept walking, "Adios, gringa!"
"Is 'gringa' a compliment!" Mrs. Kranstien called out as Luz walked away.
"Sure is! Make sure to say it to your friends when you have the chance!"
Ok, maybe she is a little bit of a prick.
Luzâs indecision
"Should I do this?"
Luz gently rubbed the blade of the knife.
"...Yeah. Yeah, I definitely should."
She lowered the blade over a thread sewn in but stopped a tenth of a millimeter away from it.
"But it's not even noticeable."
Luz raised the knife away.
"Although Blight did notice it."
And lowered it back down again.
"But that's because she was wearing it. It's not like mom could ever wear this."
"But what if it's laundry day and she takes the jacket without you knowing?"
"I mean, that could happen, but she would have to actively search for it."
"Is that really worth the risk, though?"
Luz started twirling the knife in her fingers at this point. The bi flag still remained intact, with not a single thread being taken out. Most days, Luz would barely notice it, and she's the one who always wears her jacket. Now, more than ever, the bright colors of the flag seemed incredibly noticeable.
"No," Luz shook her head, "It's not worth the risk."
She lowered the knife again and even got the blade under a thread. But before she could do anything remotely similar to removing the string, she hesitated. Again.
"...But it's also who I am," Luz sighed, pocketing her knife and putting the jacket back on.
"It's a part of me," Luz lightly beat the back of her head against the wall, "Taking it off isn't going to change anything, and it especially won't make me any less bi."
Chapter 3
Nerds being nerds
Amity nearly spat out her slushie.
"You read The Good Witch Azura?" Luz rolled her eyes at the question.
"Alright, listen," she started, "Before you make fun of me for it, you should know--"
"I love Azura."
"--It's not the cutesy kids' book that people think...it...is..." Luz looked shocked as she faced Amity's wide grin, "What did you just say?"
"It was my favorite book series growing up," Amity explained, "It still is, today."
"...No shit."
"Yeah! In fact, when I was nine, I wished I could have been just like Azura herself."
"Same!" Luz's smile became just as wide, "The grand adventures? The ability to just get along with everybody she meets? That was the shit for when I just a little tater tot."
"For me, it was how powerful her magic is," Amity confessed, "I could only dream of being as talented as she is."
Chapter 4
Snowball fight
And that's when something cold hit her in the back of the head.
Turning around to find the culprit, Amity saw none other than Luz hiding her laughter behind a hand.
"Did you just do what I think you did?!" Amity asked incredulously.
"Hey, we may be cool now...but I'm gonna take a shot when I see it. Alright?"
Amity glared at that, drawing a spell circle soon after. At the circle's completion, two dozen snowballs began to rise in the air around them, and Luz's face became pale to the sight.
"...On second thought," Luz nervously smiled as she raised her hands in surrender, "Parlay?"
"..."
Amity pointed her finger at Luz, and all of the snowballs immediately knocked the human onto her back.
"I don't think so," Amity quipped, walking over and offering a hand to her friend.
âDrugâ deal
"Is that a bad thing?"
"...Eh, probably not," Luz shrugged, "I got the goods in my backpack, by the way. You want me to give it to you now, or wait until after school?"
"t sounds like you have drugs in your backpack with the way you said that."
"Who says that I don't?"
Amity let out a light laugh. Luz didn't even seem shocked anymore.
"I'll wait until after school," Amity said when they got to the double doors, "The last thing I need is the wrong person to find out that I like...you know what."
"Got it," Luz nodded only to then lean closer to whisper, "I'll see then for the transfer. And if you get caught, I was never there."
"Ok, now I got to ask: Are you actually planning to give me drugs after school."
"Of course not!"
Luz winked.
"Drugs are bad, especially for our age."
She winked again.
"I wouldn't ever dream of doing something so vile."
And again.
"...I hate you."
"What else is new?"
"Just give me the book after school, doofus!" Amity said between chuckles.
"Yes. Of course. 'The book.'"
Luz winked for the fourth time, and Amity just pulled the human's beanie over her face in response. The two then laughed as they went their separate ways.
Amityâs jealousy
"Hey, is it ok if I ask you a favor?"
"Depends," Luz blew into her hands for extra warmth, "What's the favor?"
"Well...Skara invited me to a party she's throwing next Friday. And I was wondering if you could come with me."
"Which one is Skara again," Luz asked, "I know she's one of Boscha's lackeys, but I can't remember. Is she the tall and skinny one, the small and cute one, or the hot yet nerdy looking one?"
If she wasn't wearing gloves right now, Amity would wager that her knuckles went white with how tightly her hands gripped the steering wheel.
"You think Cat is hot?"
"Eh. Objectively, yeah," Luz shrugged, "Also, I didn't know her name was Cat. Should probably make a note of that."
"She also has a boyfriend," Amity said a little too quick, "And she's straight as a board. So go ahead and...unnote that. Just take that note and...throw it in a river somewhere."
"...Ok? Weirdo."
"Anyways, Skara is the short and--" Amity steeled herself before saying, "Cute one."
Luz helping Skara
She eventually found herself in a hall that led to bedrooms, only to see Skara sprinting around and picking up discarded beer cans and red solo cups and tossing them into a trash bag. She then opened a random door, squeaked, and slammed it shut, leaning against it while pressing her palms into her eyes.
"Why do that in my parents' bedroom!?" she cried to no one in particular.
Usually, Luz wouldn't give a shit about any of Boscha's lackeys. And yet, something compelled her to walk over.
"Are they making out or doing something worse," she asked, which caused Skara to look up in surprise.
"...What...What are you doing here?"
"Don't question it," Luz nodded to the door, "In there. Are they just making out?"
"...Yes, but it's still--"
Luz pounded on the door, making Skara jump.
"Hey!" she shouted, "That's not your bed, assholes! If you want privacy, then go to the back of your car like decent human beings!"
"We're not humans!"
"Not the point!"
For a while, nothing happened. Then finally, two boys walked out of the room, hand in hand with their clothes ruffled, and started shuffling their way down the hall. Skara just stood where she was, not knowing what to say or do.
"Hey," Luz snapped her fingers to get Skara's attention, "If a person starts acting like a prick, be an even bigger prick. Someone's going to eventually back down, so don't let it be you. They'll get the point, then. Oh, and by the way..."
She pulled the photo out of her jacket's pocket and tossed it to Skara, who then fumbled with the thing before catching it.
"Someone tried to steal that," Luz told her, "I don't know where it belongs so, there you go."
Luz then began to head in the direction of the stairs.
"Thank you."
The broken tone of voice made Luz freeze for a second, turning over her shoulder to see Skara looking at the human, her eyes full of gratitude and amazement.
"...Don't mention it," was all Luz said before walking down the hall to find the stairs.
Literally, everything that Drunk Amity does. But hereâs the top five:
#5-Snuggle time
"I hate my life," Luz muttered, shuffling over. She pulled the covers up and slowly got into the bed. But once she did, Amity didn't waste a second wrapping her entire body around Luz's. Like a koala bear, clinging to a tree.
"...Do you mind?" Luz's voice cracked.
"What? I'm sleeping on my side."
"Yeah, but I'd prefer it if you slept on a side that wouldn't result in me getting puked on."
"But how will we snuggle?"
"Oh my god," Luz sighed, "You're not gonna back down from this, are you?"
"Mm-mm."
"...tell you what. If you flip onto your other side, I'll--I can't believe I'm saying this--I'll...spoon...you."
Amity gasped, her eyes practically glittering with stars as she looked up at Luz.
"That's even better," she whispered, untangling herself from Luz's body so she can flip onto her other side, already getting into a position to receive comfort. Luz, slowly and reluctantly, turned over to wrap an arm around Amity, pressing their bodies together.
'This is probably punishment for...every shitty thing I've done in my life," she thought to herself.
#4-Drink it!
"Drink it!"
"No!"
"Drink it."
"No!"
"Drink it!"
"Noooo!" Amity flopped face down onto her pillow as if she was a five-year-old. The bunny-print pajamas that Luz changed her into didn't help, either (it was the minor victories). With one hand, Luz started messaging her temple out of annoyance, while the other hand gripped tight onto a glass of water.
"Amity, if you're gonna lay down like a baby, then lay on your side," she explained, "If you face down, or up, then you'll just drown in your own vomit. And is that how you wanna go out?"
Amity flipped onto her side with a harrumph.
"That's what I thought," Luz held the glass up to Amity again, "Now drink this water."
"I don't wanna," the witch wined, "It doesn't have flavor. It's boring. Give something less boring."
#3-Amityâs love for Emira
"Who are you talking to?"
"Your sister."
"Oh! Hey, Luz," Amity started tapping Luz on the shoulder, "Luz, Luz, Luz, Luz--"
"What?"
"Tell her--Listen--Tell...Emira that she is the worst...and that I don't like her. It's an--Look--It's an inside joke between us. She'll understand it when you tell her."
"...Will do."
"Oh! And Luz,"
"What?" This time, Luz was starting to get aggravated.
"Emira--Don't tell her this part--But Emira is, like, the most important person to me. And Ed too. Sometimes. Because they've both always been there for me when our parents are being bigger dicks than they are. I just don't--Hey--I don't tell them that because then they'll make fun of me for it. So don't-- Shh! Don't tell her."
"...You got all that, right?" Luz asked into the scroll.
"Sure did. What the hell did she drink?"
#2-Tossing cookies
Amity's face suddenly paled. Luz couldn't figure what was wrong at first, at least until she saw Amity lurch.
"Oh, shit," Luz then guided Amity over to the nearest potted plant, "Shit shit shit shit--"
Once at the plant, Amity bent over and...lost her lunch.
"...Are you o--"
And then her breakfast.
"...Are--"
And finally tossed one last cookie for good measure.
"...You good?"
"Yeah," Amity looked up at her victim, which was already starting to wilt, "...This my mom's favorite plant..."
She then slapped it.
"Fuck you, plant!"
And #1...
The good news is that Luz finally found her.
The bad news is that Amity was standing on top of a table as everyone stared at her.
"I am the lesbian queen of the universe!" she shouted, "Y'all can bow down and kiss my ass!"
"Get it, girl!"
"You bet I'll get it, whoever you are! Seriously, who said that?" she called back, turning in a circle to find the source of the voice. However, because of Amity's drunken state, she soon tripped on her own feet and fell off the table. Luckily, Luz was quick to realize that wearing heels and being drunk was a bad combination, so she had already run over to the table, ready to catch Amity.
The green-haired witch landed in Luz's arms, bridal princess style. Luz then set her down, but Amity still wrapped her arms around the human's neck.
"You're my hero," Amity said wistfully.
"Yeah, I'm a real knight in shining--" But Luz didn't get a chance to finish her snarky remark. Because Amity leaned in to plant a wet, sloppy kiss onto Luz's cheek. This caused the human to go still and red-faced, her brain ceasing to function as Amity pulled away with a Mwah!
And on the topic of kisses
Luz remained still for a minute or two, ultimately thinking 'screw it,' and kissed Amity's cheek. It was about a millisecond, maybe even half of that, but it did not stop Luz's face from heating up.
"There. Happy now?"
"Nope," Amity faced Luz with a drunken smile, "Because now it's my turn."
"Wait, no- Mmph!" But it was too late. Because the second after Amity spoke, she leaned in to kiss Luz's cheek, giving Luz no time to even turn her head. Which resulted in Amity giving Luz another wet and sloppy kiss, not on her cheek, but right on her lips.
And perhaps it was just as long as Luz's kiss. Probably even a second longer. But for her, it felt as though time had come to a standstill as Amity's lips were pressed against Luz's. But regardless, Luz didn't pull away. She didn't even shove Amity off, despite having every reason to. In fact, when Amity finally pulled away from the kiss, Luz had this strange desire buried deep within her brain, yet she was still aware of it.
Because despite how weird it would be and how Amity's breath will absolutely taste awful, Luz felt a strange desire to kiss her friend again.
Chapter 6
The morning after
Curious, Amity looked over her shoulder to see the culprit.
'Oh, it's just Luz," she thought, slowly turning back over.
...
Amity's eyes popped open.
She whipped her head back to look over her shoulder, which was a mistake because the sudden rush made her hangover say, 'screw you,' and leave Amity with a ton of pain. Once it slowly wore off (or, at least, became a bit more bearable), Amity got a good look at the person behind her. And what she saw both warmed her heart, as well as stopped it.
Luz. Sleeping in Amity's bed. Pressed up against the witch and peacefully smiling as she dreamed.
This left a myriad of thoughts in Amity's head.
'Luz is in my bed.'
'Luz is in my bed, and she's spooning me.'
'...I need to wake her.'
But just as she was about to wake her friend, Luz, in her sleep, then shuffled herself further against Amity. Her sleepy smile had grown wider.
'...And I am dead. I am dead, have ascended the stars, and this now my life for eternity.'
Huge misunderstanding
Luz remained still, glancing between Amity's eyes and her lips. Ultimately, she closed the distance between them and kissed her.
And kissed her again.
And again.
It felt so amazing, with each kiss sending a wave of euphoric energy through Luz's body. It was everything she didn't know she wanted.
"Luz?" Amity gasped.
"Hm?"
"Are you awake right now?"
"Mm-hm," Luz mumbled as she continued to kiss Amity's sweet, soft, hairy--
'Hairy?'
***
Luz peaked open her eyes, and instead of seeing Amity's face, all she saw was bright green. Remembering where she was, Luz's eyes became wide once she took in the fact of what she just did.
"mmBAAAAAAAH!" Luz shrieked, pushing herself to the other end of the bed. Unfortunately, she pushed a little too far and ended up falling off the bed entirely, face-planting onto the floor.
Luzâs hairball
It was Luz's turn to get up as she walked over to the pile of her clothes on the desk.
"Just let me change first and--" She coughed, "--And I--"
Suddenly Luz was coughing severely, her face going red from lack of air.
"Luz?"
"What's wrong?!"
While coughing, Luz pointed at her throat.
"She's choking!" Viney deduced, "Hang on, I got this!"
She ran over and went behind Luz. Placing the thumb side of her fist over the human's abdomen and placing a hand over said fist, Viney began performing the Heimlich maneuver. After a few thrusts, Luz finally coughed out what was obstructing her throat. Once she could breathe again, she got a look at what nearly killed her. Only to see a clump of wet, green hair on the floor.
"...Is that--"
"Anyways, I'm gonna go ahead and change!" Luz squeaked quickly, grabbing her clothes off the desk and dashing into the closet. Viney and Emira looked over at Amity, who, red as a tomato, pulled the covers over her head.
Amity explaining why she likes Luz...which goes on for a good chunk of the chapter and it would be ludicrous for me to paste it onto here. But trust me. Itâs a great moment
Chapter 7
Pastor Bensonâs sermon and Luzâs prayor
"I think I can speak for all of us when I say that the world is constantly changing," Pastor Benson began his sermon. "For every day, new lifestyles and ways of loving others are introduced and integrated into our society. Just the other day, I was given a chance to experience this first hand."
That caught Luz's interest for a moment.
"You see, my nephew gathered the whole family, everybody that he trusted, and did something none of us could have ever expected. He told us all that he was a homosexual."
Immediately everybody started murmuring with each other. And Luz had to admit, she was more than curious to see where Benson was going with this.
"I know, I know," he silenced the crowd, "I was surprised too. And as he continued, both he and his boyfriend, which was another shock to find out, started telling us all about what it means to be what they are. They explained what they considered the basics, answered questions, and soon enough, Micheal's parents stood up to give him a hug, and everyone else took turns letting him know that he is loved."
Now Luz was really interested.
"Later, I took Micheal aside so I can have a heart to heart with him," Pastor Benson pressed on, "I said to him that he is my nephew and that I will always love him. And no matter what, God will love him too, like all of his children."
For the first time in her life, Luz hung onto every word that a pastor said.
"But sin is still a sin, and I said that it's not too late to save his soul."
'There it is,' Luz thought, slumping into her seat and hoping that her mom didn't notice her reaction. Pastor Benson continued his sermon, but Luz mentally checked out, not caring about what he has to say next. It didn't matter if Benson told the secrets to the universe or the meaning of life. Because of what he said, Luz tuned him out for the next few minutes, stirring in a pissed-off mood she genuinely tried to keep out of church.
"--Now, I would ask you all to join me in prayer before we bring this congregation to a close," Luz heard Pastor Benson say fifteen minutes later. Everyone then simultaneously lowered their heads to pray, with Luz right along with them.
'Dear God,' she prayed, 'If you could be so kind, could you send down an angel or your son or something to tell all these homophobes that being gay isn't a sin. And the only reason why people think that's true is that some dickhead mistranslated a line somewhere. A translation, by the way, that was meant to tell people that pedophilia is awful. Something that some of your own pastors should learn from time to time.
'Because if you could send someone down to get the record straight, I, and many others, would really appreciate it...also sorry for swearing while during prayer. That wasn't cool of me. Bless my mom, and praise be to you.'
Camila and Claire
"If you ask me, that was crossing way over the line."
Camila looked over to her friend Claire, who stood with her as they waited in line at a makeshift buffet table to grab breakfast.
"Are you talking about Pastor Benson or his nephew?" Camila couldn't help but ask.
"Oh, absolutely, it's Benson," Claire whispered so as not to draw attention amongst the chatter, "I mean, here you have a kid who was in a safe space and just wanted to be accepted, only to have your uncle basically say you're going to hell. The man might as well have punched poor Micheal in the gut."
"Aye, I am so happy that you said that," Camila grabbed two plates for herself and Luz, who sat at a table for them. "I understand that he's a person of the lord, but that's taking belief a little too far. I believe in God, and I love him with my whole heart, but I would never say anything like that to Luz. If she was gay, that is."
"I'm right there with you," Claire nodded as she piled food onto her own two plates, "I have five kids. Two of them moved out with relationships of their own. But if my other three ever come to me and say that they're gay, then the last thing I'd do is make them feel ashamed of it."
"Right? I always make it clear to Luz that she can tell me anything. Especially if it's something like that."
Mrs. Kranstien calling Camila a gringa
"As I said, keep an eye on her. For both of your sakes," the gossiper said as she turned to walk in her own direction, "Adios, gringa."
Camila did a double-take.
'Did she just...No,' she shook her head, 'No. She couldn't have.'
Amityâs reaction
"...So we're just going to be spending some time waiting...alone...in a big house with nobody else around?"
"...Basically, yeah," Luz shrugged, "See you then. Oh! By the way, and I know it goes without saying, but try to do something that hides those ears. Because the last thing I need to do is explain why my new friend looks like an elf from  Lord of the Rings."
With that, Luz hung up, leaving Amity to sit still as a statue at her desk. Eventually, she slowly dragged her diary over, picked up a pencil, and began to calmly write.
So Luz, literally right now, just asked me to come over to hang out at her house, completely unsupervised, as we wait to have dinner with her mom. Current mood: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Chapter 8
Boschaâs rage
"You little jackass!"
Luz turned away from her locker to see Boscha stomping over. It was the end of the school day, and Luz was already beyond stressed about having Amity over to her house. The last thing that anyone needs, least of all her, is to deal with Boscha's bullshit.
"Little?" Luz said with an annoyed tilt to her head. "Bitch, I am absolutely taller than you!"
"Not the point!" Boscha yelled once she finally got up to Luz, "Because here's the thing: You draw on my face, I'll be annoyed. You rip my scroll in half, I'll be pissed off. But make people think I have a crush on FUCKING, Matt!? That is something I should kill you for!"
"...I didn't draw on your face."
"YOU--" But Boscha stopped herself to take a deep, calming breath before looking back at Luz with murder in her eyes, "That slimy, greasy, weasely little weasel has been hitting on me ALL DAY! And it's all because of you posting on social media that I like him. I mean, what the FUCK did I do to deserve that?!"
"...Do you really want me to answer that?"
Misunderstanding
"Hey."
Hesitantly, Amity glanced over at Luz again. Who had put her full attention into the girl in front of her.
"Do you wanna make out?"
"WHAT?!"
Luz jumped at Amity's screech.
"...I said, âdo you want take out?â" she repeated, lifting up her phone, "My mom just said she's going to be a while and isn't in a cooking mood. So she wants to know if you're cool if she picks up some chimichurri sandwiches on the way home."
"Oh. Oh! Yeah, that's fine," Amity could feel her face grow hotter by the second.
"Ok?" Luz texted a reply to her mom, "...What did you think I said, anyway?"
"..."
"It must have been something bad to make you react as if I called you the c-word."
"...So this movie is interesting!" Suddenly, all Amity's attention went to the tee-vee, "My favorite character would have to be that, uh, that girl with the...dyed hair and...giant hammer--What did you say this movie is called again?"
Luz opened her mouth to say something, but a small ping! from her phone distracted her for a bit.
"My mom wants to know if you have any allergies," she said.
"I do not."
"Got it," Luz sent her reply, "Now, as for what you thought I said--"
"Table it for later."
'So I can have time to think of a proper excuse.'
"...Alright."
Luz went back to watching the movie for another minute, looked at her wrist for some reason, and then stared right back at Amity.
"It's now later."
"Luz--"
"Look, if it's something embarrassing, don't worry about it," Luz waved off her friend's concern, "Your brain just misinterpreted what I said. It's no big deal. I'm just wondering what you thought I asked that got you all hot and bothered."
'She called me hot--FOCUS!'
"You really won't judge?" Amity asked for clarification.
"Can't be any more embarrassing than what I did on Saturday."
'I guess that's true.'
"Well," Amity nervously fiddled with the hem of her dress, "I thought that...that you asked if...I wanted to...make...out..."
She glanced over, and, sure enough, a blush was beginning to form on Luz's cheeks.
"...Oh," the human said.
"But it's like you said!" Amity quickly exclaimed, "My brain just misinterpreted the words! It's not like you would ever ask me to do that, right?"
"...Of course not."
"...You hesitated?"
"Hm?"
"I said that you would never ask me to do that, and you hesitated when saying no. Why did you hesitate?"
"I didn't hesitate."
"Yes, you did."
"Pretty sure I didn't."
"Well, I'm definitely sure that you did."
"Well, if I did, then that's because, um..."
"...Because, um, what?"
"..."
"..."
"...So this movie, huh?" Luz looked back at the screen, "It's, uh, Scott Pilgrim, by the way. Just to answer your question...from earlier...about what movie this is..."
And thus came the thickest, most awkward silence between them. Understandably enough, Luz now had no problems with sitting as far away from Amity as possible.
"...How long until your mom gets home, again?"
"Should be another two hours."
"Damn it."
"Yeah."
Baby pictures
"Actually, I do have a photo of that day in an album somewhere," Camila added, "I could go find it and prove to you how innocent Luz was."
Now Luz's face went pale as Amity's brightened with glee.
"No, she doesn't!"
"Yes, I do!"
The poor human glared at the rich girl.
"No. You don't."
"Yes. I do."
"Right then," Camila finished her sandwich and got out of her seat, "You two sit tight. I'm going to go find that album."
Once her mother was out of the room, Luz scooched over to Amity with murder in her eyes.
"I would like to point out that you still owe me, like, five more favors from what happened last Friday," she whispered-growled, "So I would like to cash in one of them for you to not look at my baby pictures."
"And I would like to point out that you saw me at my lowest last Friday," Amity said with a smarmy smile, "Which means I'm at least owed some middle ground."
"...I hate you."
"Sure you do."
Gravity Falls reference
'There's that weird feeling again,' she thought as a tingling sensation formed throughout her gut. It wasn't the first time that day when Luz felt this.
She felt it when seeing Amity's human ears, when Amity admitted that she always wanted to be friendly, and especially when Amity thought Luz wanted to make out.
'...Wait...do I--'
Luz shook her head.
"No, no, no no no," she said to herself, "There's no way. There's just no way! I'm sure this is just some...indirect way of Boscha's words getting to your brain."
Luz turned around to go back inside.
"By tomorrow, you'll laugh about how ridiculous a thought like that is."
At Midnight.
Ever since turning in at nine, Luz could not for the life of her go to sleep.
Why?
Because her head was filled with nothing but thoughts of golden eyes, wild green hair, and a smirk that became all the more attractive, the more she thought about it.
"...Goddammit."
Chapter 9
Skaraâs advice
"In that case, as her best friend, I have to tell that she will destroy you."
"Whatever."
"And as her best friend, I probably shouldn't tell you to go for any of her weak spots."
"..." Luz shared a curious look with Gus and Willow, who shrugged. "What weak spots?"
"Well, as her best friend, I shouldn't tell you that Boscha suffered a lot of injuries from playing grudgby," Skara explained, "Like the fact that her right arm hasn't healed right and she prefers punching with her left. Or the fact that she's still recovering from breaking her left leg and that if you kick the back of it hard enough, she'll crumble."
"...It's too bad that you didn't say any of that," Luz played along, "Because that would all be incredibly useful. And I would have to ask why you would tell me that in the first place."
"Hypothetically speaking, if I did tell you all of that--which I didn't--it would probably be because I'm still a little mad that she destroyed my house for the sake of getting Amity back. And that I'm just as sick as you are that Boscha wastes so much time trying to win back a girl that is clearly not interested."
"In that case, I really hate that you didn't tell me any of that stuff. Because then I would have thanked you for the advice."
"And I would have said, 'You're welcome,'" Skara looked left, right, and hugged Luz for a fraction of a second to then scamper off to who knows where.
The first hit
"Uh-huh...I don't know what that means, so here's a question: What happens when I break that oath?"
"Oh, trust me, you won't break it. Now, are you ready to eat dirt, human?"
"Born ready," Luz said, regaining her confidence, "In fact, you can have the first punch."
Boscha raised an eyebrow.
"Really? You sure you want that?"
"Of course. That is unless you're too scared of breaking a nail--"
SMACK!
The entire stadium went 'Ooooh,' due to Boscha sucker-punching Luz so hard that the human immediately went down and into the dirt. Needless to say, Luz was very much awake now.
"JESUS CHRIST!" She shouted as she slowly stood up, nursing the now bruising cheek that Boscha hit. "What the shit do they feed you rich girls?! Also, what happened to no hitting the face?! That was my face! You said no hitting the face!"
"Oh, no, I meant my face," Boscha reiterated, "My face is off-limits. Yours is free real estate."
Adrenaline rush
While Boscha was distracted by that, Luz looked over at her own friends.
Willow scowled with her fists clenched, looking like she was about ready to jump in to kick Boscha's ass for Luz.
Gus was cheering for Luz to get up. At least, she thinks that's what he was doing. A sudden ringing in Luz's ear currently made it hard to decipher what anybody was saying if they weren't close enough.
And then there was Amity, who held Luz's jacket tight to her heart, eyes wide and complexion pale.
That's when it hit Luz: If she loses, she'll be forced by some magic bullshit to never see Amity again. All these weeks of getting close and building...whatever the hell their relationship is building towards would have been for nothing. Worse yet, Amity will be left with Boscha, who would treat the green-haired witch with as much dignity and respect as Boscha treats her friends.
It was the mix of fear and anger from that thought that gave Luz just enough adrenaline she needed to turn towards Boscha and kicked her hard in the left leg.
Goodnight
"Cool. Hey, mom?"
"Yes, mija?"
"If a person asks you to have lunch with them, just the two of you, what would you think that means?"
"I assume that means a person wants to date you."
"Cool. Anyways, I'm gonna go to bed now. Goodnight."
"Youâre what?"
THWUMP!
Startled by the noise, Camila turned around to see that Luz had fallen face-first onto the living room floor.
"...Luz?"
"Hm?" Luz mumbled.
"Are you ok?"
"Mm-hm."
Chapter 10
Earmuffs
"Hi, Luz! Question: Me being a male cheerleader. Yay or nay?"
"I think it's absolutely a 'yay,' but we can talk about that later," Luz said as she sat down, "For right now: Earmuffs."
"Aw, what?" Gus whined, "C'mon!"
"No complaining. Earmuffs."
"But I'm younger than you two by two years. I can totally handle grown-up talk."
"Earmuffs!"
Gus groaned, reluctantly covering his ears, closing his eyes, and humming to himself to further block out any noise.
Assumptions
"I don't give a shit that you're dating her." Willow said plainly.
"You see--Wha-wha-wha-wha-What? What? I'm sorry, what? Just...Fucking what?!" Luz exclaimed, completely caught off guard.
"Hey, don't get me wrong," Willow continued, "I would much rather see you date almost anybody else in this school. But if--for whatever reason--Amity is the person you really want to be with, I won't say anything about it. The heart wants what the heart wants. Who am I to judge?"
"...We're not dating."
Willow blinked.
"You're not?"
"No."
"...You're not?!"
Spray Bottle
Then suddenly, bits of water started spritzing onto her face. Looking over, Amity saw that it was because Viney was using a spray bottle on her.
"Bad," she said between spritzes, "Bad Blight."
"What the hell?!" Amity hissed, "Why do you even have that?!"
"I take Beast Keeping," Viney explained as she pocketed her spray bottle, "It comes in handy, so I just keep it on me at all times. Now, back to your dumbassery..."
"Hey, try to look at this from my point of view, alright?" the younger witch growled, "You never had to deal with Luz and her dumb smirk or her...cute round ears and those...those gorgeous brown eyes that are so warm and soft and make you feel all ooey-gooey like a warm chocolate cookie and--"
Viney started spritzing Amity again.
"GAH! Sorry," Amity said, snapping out of it.
And thatâs about it. Thank you all so much for reading this story for this long, and a very special thank you to @drabbles-of-writing for letting me write this story in the first place. Now if you donât excuse me, Iâve got school shit to work on.

Somewhere in the Crowd There's You (Rosnali) - Joley
Summary: Denali and Rosé were best friends all through middle and high school, but had to part ways after graduating in 1998. But even years later, the one thing that always connected them were the mixtapes Rosé would make.
(bonus: denali's playlist for rosé)
ao3 link
âDenali, so help me god if youâre late to graduation you will not make it to college!â her mother shouted up the stairs.
There was no way, it couldnât beâŠ
âBut I wonât feel blue like I always do. âCause somewhere in the crowd thereâs-â RosĂ© looked into the audience, her eyes meeting Denaliâs and her breath hitching in her throat, nearly missing the last word, but when she got it out, it was as if she were singing to her once again, ââŠyou.â

DID theory part 3: St novels/comics/spotify list analyses
*read part 2 of DID theory-first! Youâll be lost otherwise, seriously XD. First, Iâll say -I find the ST comics/ books as canon as the st movie inspirations . I donât consider the books/comics âliteral canonâ (cause they contradict the show ( like Max and billy meeting a year before s2  in runaway max - but meeting as little kids in s3,  or Elâs age being wrong in suspicious minds, in the d&D comic Willâs friends instead of him /Jonathan building castle byers, etc) .Â
So I think we shouldnât take it  literally - but more like the st movie lists - filled with foreshadowing/symbolism and other eastereggs (That the Duffers may have told them to add). So hereâs some more (possible) alter / DID hints...
âSuspicious mindsâ novel
- Brenner  equates k*lling rabbits to h*rting kids. And heâll hurt (kid) Kali (the bunny in the analogy) if Terry tries running away from him . I wonder if Lonnie used a similar threat against jonathan? Jon could be giving only a partial truth to why he cried for a week (about the bunny story)?
-Kali âhopsâ like a bunny then talks about tigers obsessively (linking her to rabbits/tigers similar to the other alters/Will/Lonnie). Terry also imagines tigers and kali says to Alice they can all be tigers together.
- one of the only male psychic experiments (who can see the future) is gay
- Terry is into lord of the rings, like Will. Has her and her boyfriend dress as sam & frodo (m/m ship). Terry calls her and her friends âthe fellowshipâ.
-when Terry/Alice were injected with d**gs -they hallucinated rainbows.yikes.
- Alice (like Lonnie) is a car mechanic. She can see the future like Will the wise and says âmonsters of course my mind has them as long as they stayed in there, everything would be alright? Wouldnât it?â (in her visions she saw the demogorgan).
(completed) graphic ST novels (by Jody Hozer) so far (+ other st comics).
*Jody Hozer writes all the graphic novels (every novel is 4 chapters each) - the will byers comic, number 6 comic , into the fire comic, and at the moment sheâs writing the d&d series and the summer camp series (which isnât done yet). Then thereâs the occasional 1 chapter st comics not written by her.
- Number 6 has (the ability to foresee the future like Will the wise/Alice) and has an ab*sive dad.Â
When having a nightmare of the demogorgan ...she says as she wakes up âscrew you dadâ (another hint the demogrgan -aka in d&d means âdeep fatherâ ...is Lonnie).
- when number 6 and others run they say theyâreâ ârabbitingâ(which yes technically makes sense but I found such an uncommon phrase odd.)
- The (summer camp and d&d graphic novels arenât completed yet) but they establish d&d creatures are based off  real life people the boys donât like in real life. Or that d&d is used as an outlet to explain true events from their pasts -but they just give the true stories a d&d fantasy slant.
- Which brings me to the halloween oneshot(not by Hozer),taking place before s1. Will tells a scary story told to him by Jonathan, and originally told to him by Lonnie. Says the boys have to keep it a secret cause it was something he was never supposed to tell to anyone. Mike says he has to finish the story he started. Itâs about a âch*lld-eaterâ monster first attacking a boy near the quarry (like where Will was found) and attacking kids in a library (where Will was also found in s1).When the child sees the sheriff she bangs on the library door begging for help-he ignores her , walks away, and tells the other cops to never speak of what they saw as she screams for help. Because the previous sheriff was in kahoots with the monster. It def had some ... uh questionable imagery too 0_0
The vine in the mouth is also like the one in Willâs mouth (when Joyce found him in the library). And of course Dustin asks whether or not something like that could be covered up.
- In the âbully comicâ (about troy) also not by Jody. We focus on Troy and his ab*sive dad (who encourages him to fight/ditch his best friend). The dad has a drinking problem (gets fired), calls Troy a âmessâ , pushes him, and constantly encourages Troy to be vi*lent/macho. He pretty much tries sabotaging the relationship Troy has with his friend (which I could see Lonnie doing in the future with byler). The dad/troy is framed similarly to when Billy gives Max a ride home- after both ab*sers give bad advice saying not to hang out with their friend (after witnessing them fight in the school parking lot). Dad also laughs about almost k*lling a squirrel (a trait we see troy mimic)- and we see El feel guilty about k*lling a squirrel in s2. At the end of the comic- Troy (like Will) after making up with his bff james- moves leaving his best friend behind.
-Â (into the fire) Twins: (one was normal with no powers living in the real world and the twin with fire powers is trapped in a dark sunless âcoldâ world styled like a psych facility/medieval fantasy) . pics in link. She hated her reflection cause it reminded her of being betrayed by her normal non powered twin who left her behind in the âcoldâ place. Sheâd call herself a âhunterâ who would defend herself and attack others to never be hurt again. Her powers being unleashed were described like opening âa door.â And she loves her twin deep down and just wants friends . And fire twin goes to the âother sideâ to reunite with her reflection and find happiness in the real world. *also thereâs sunflower/bunny symbols which she lights on fire-which can relate back to Will/Terry/Lonnie etc. The twins = Will & Will the wise (mf)
Mirrors also connect to Will and Will the wise via the canon spotify playlists too.
Will playlist (song: mirror in the bathroom)-Mirror in the bathroom Please talk free. The door is locked -Just you and me.Mirror in the bathroom recompense for all my crimes of self defense.Cures you whisper make no sense!Drift gently into Mental illness.
Demogorgan playlist ( from perspective of Will the wise aka the mf) (song: are you dead yet? )-âpolluted soul through a mirror I behold.Throw a punch, shards bleed on the floor. tearing me apart. but I don't care anymore.Should I regret or ask myself are you dead yet?Wake up, don't cry. Regenerate to deny the truth. The fiction you live in blindfolds your eyes. Disclosure, self loathing, this time you've gone too far.Or could it be, my nemesis, that you are me?
(*st âinto the fireâ comic. the fire powered twinâs thoughts echo the song)
*I think this foreshadows the later plot points of mf (will the wise ) and Will interacting via mirrors. The fire-wielding twin and the non powered twin had a lot of mirror imagery. Including the fire powered twin (Who denies reality/and imagines herself in a fantasy world) punching her reflection because it reminds her of her non-powered twin. Hereâs some cover art from the novels showing how much they emphasize mirrors.
*And in s4 movies Black swan - âthe black and white swan twins (two halves of the same person-Nina)â had creepy mirror imagery. In long kiss goodnight the women with DID talks to her â (supposed)dark 1/2âłÂ via a mirror (in a dream). in âthe visitâ the teen girl whoâs dad abandoned her when young- refuses to look in the mirror (and itâs never explained why she hates her reflection). So yes I think weâll see this in s4 or 5. We already see the mf take on the appearance of Billy when talking to him.
- Will in âzombie boyâ comic is afraid heâs a monster.
also lets appreciate the lil byler moment of Mike and Will being the only zombies and mike comforting him. honestly , though, the characters were pretty out of character for most of this 1 ch comic (until the end) tbh.
- in the âd&d comicâ mf is  (possibly) described as a âprotectorâ (aka like how i said the mf is probably a perpetrator alter- which are misguided protectors).
*update now that itâs finished... hinting Will created everything subconsciously.
âRunaway Maxâ novel (before s3)
(I didnât get time to read this book unlike âsuspicious mindsâ -so canât show screen shots of everything others talked about. May read it eventually)
-Max compares Billy  to âher monsterïżœïżœ and a âshadowâ that will attack anyone that comes close (mf parallel).
- Dart k*lled a cat, Elâs papa tried to force her to k*ll a cat. And Billy when seeing a d*ad cat lights it on fire for a âviking funeralâ. A connection to WW (who has fire powers) and El & dart.
-Max and Billy both are into cars and bond over fixing them (similar to Lonnieâs interest in fixing up cars). And since Lonnie tried to brag to Jonathan about fixing a car up and Will is into tech it wouldnât be a stretch that Lonnie and Will were into fixing cars together (like Max/billy who would hang out at a autoshop in Cali) . Similar to Will ,max says hanging with Billy wasnât always so bad- which made things more confusing to her.
- Max compares Billy being beat up by Neil: to âpunching a pocket of a baseball gloveâ. This is interesting since this book was pre-s3 which was when they established the connection of billy and his dad to baseball (similar to s1 saying Lonnie taught Will baseball).
-Billyâs friend is a nice âmusic snobâ . He tries distracting Max with music while Billy is burning the cat. Which reminds me of Jonathan trying to distract Will from their parents fighting in the next room-with music
- Maxâs bio dad is a criminal who takes her to shady bars, and Max fears heâd âget bored of herâ. Max also ran away from her mom to her dadâs 2x.Which reminds me of Jonathan thinking Will ran to Lonnieâs in s1.
-Max mentions how Billy misses his friends after moving out of Cali. And he starts acting even worse-after the move. Which will probably be the case for Will (at least a bit) when moving to California.
-Billy tells Max Neil isnât his âreal dadâ either because Neil canât be a father to anyone.
-Billy also tells Max who (at the time ) is 12 years old not to act âeasyâ and breaks her best friendâs (Nateâs) arm over someone joking he was Maxâs boyfriend and also cause Nate tried to get in between Billy bullying Max. Eventually all her Cali friends ditch her cause theyâre afraid of Billy. And Ugh- why could I see Lonnie doing something like this in the future with Will/his new friends.Â
- Creepily Max says Billy doesnât fool around with her like other girls not because of her age or being family. But cause she wasnât âattractiveâ. This whole excerpt gave me the heeby jeebies,on so many levels, honestly. Almost like heâs jealous- and controlling her cause he doesnât want Max to have any love interests. Maybe iâm just missing the context? But ugh... excerpt:
Will byers secret Files
-Hopper gets scared by a pumpkin-scarecrow. And in Willâs canon journal when talking about the mindflayer and his nightmares draws the same scare-crow , Hopper saw. Thereâs also a lot of s4-5 foreshadowing in the book... but thatâs a post for another day.
Darkness on the edge of town (Hopper novel)
*didnât get time to read this (except the preview)
I think itâs more foreshadowing for future seasons though- cult/supposed ritual k*llings, people being wrongly blamed for those crimes-like the hellfire club , most likely. (similar to the guy number 3 in the number 6 comic) saint john in the novel also has the same brain control powers as 3- similar to the mf. .â When a blackout plunges the boroughs into chaos, Hopper must escape the the mobs in the streets to make sure his family is safe and stop Saint John from fulfilling his prophecy.â I already talked about here- how the next few seasons would start having more religious symbolism/a future apocalypse (based on what weâve seen in the show/s4 movies). Although, i think thereâs quite a few differences between (the novelâs) saint john and Will the wise. Hopper is also a star wars nerd like the boys (alter hint)
Canon spotify songs (posted after s2/before s3) hinting at DID/ alter /lonnie stuff-
Will  and Will the wise (aka the mf) being an alter
*Used Will and the demogorgan playlist (which i think has perspectives of Will the wise aka the mf, demogorgan, and Lonnie).
Besides the mirror songs previously mentioned...
Will (cold inside)-Doctor the problem's in my chest. My heart feels cold as ice but it's anybody's guess?Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right?Better make it fast before I change my mind. Doctor can you help me cause I don't feel right?Better make it fast before I change my mindWell it's cold, cold, cold, cold inside. Darker in the day than the dead of night Cold, cold, cold, cold inside...Counselor give me some advice Tell me how hard will I fall if I live a double life?
El (ghost)-your ghost, the ghost of you.It keeps me awake. My friends had you figured out.Yeah they saw what's inside of you. You tried hiding another you.But your evil was coming through... living in the shade
Your cold heart makes my spirit shake.
El (monster Lead me home)-I don't know what, what I was afraid of, I was afraid oooof...Monster take me somewhere...We walk in shadow.Monster lead me home.Where there is no place to hide.Stranger on the other side
We walk in shadow.Monster lead me home.

Max (Logical song)-I know it sounds absurd. Please tell me who I am, who I am, who I am, who I am?
EL(Buzzcut season)-I remember when your head caught flame
It kissed your scalp and caressed your brain

...From the inside, so it seems.Oh, I'm telling you it's all a dream
It's all a dream
It's all a dream
It's all a dream
It's all a It's all a dream.â
Max (comfortably numb)-When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye.I turned to look but it was gone.I cannot put my finger on it now.The child is grown. The dream is gone.I have become comfortably numb.
Max (Kids arenât alright)-Still it's hard Hard to see Fragile lives, shattered dreams...What the hell is going on? The cruelest dream, reality.
El(team)-Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams. And you know we're on each other's team
Hopper (denial twist) ( just change âsheâ to âheâ)-Just because she makes you feel wrong she don't mean to be mean or hurt you on purpose, boy!Take a tip and do yourself a little service...by playing a different role Ya, by playing a different role, oh.The boat ya you know she's rockin' it.And the truth well ya know there's no stoppin' it.So what, somebody left you in a rut and wants to be the one who's in control. But the feeling that you're under can really make you wonder. How the hell she can be so cold?So now you're mad, denying the truth. And it's getting in the wisdom in the back of your tooth
El (the story)-You see the smile that's on my mouth. It's hiding the words that don't come out.And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed. They don't know my head is a mess.No they don't know who I really am.And they don't know what I've been through
El (hero) ( pretty much alludes to El being a construct of Willâs mind similar to his juju zombies in the d&d story he wrote )-Who knows what you'll find when you look inside (billyâs mind)?Haunted beach (billy flashback), roll the dice. The zombies in the corner aren't amused (d&d ref).Play the part of the blushing bride...Out of view, cloaked by night...My spirit dims, but I feel the force"No longer in my hands," (loses powers) .I say to you .I could've been a hero, I could've been a zero.Could've been all these thingsI could've been nothing, I could've had something.Could've been all these things. And if I am unable, tell him that I'll try but underneath the table will spin the wheel and hope for gold. Oh, and where it stops, nobody knows.
Max (itâs real)-I don't know who's behind the wheel.Sometimes I feel like I don't know The deal.But when I tell you how I feel-Believe me when I say It's real.I skated on a frozen Sea.It's real as far as I Can see?
Max (Halloween)-Because your role is planned for you
there's nothing you can do.
El (White rabbit... alice and wonderland/lonnie ref)-And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall...When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead.
demogrogan(Dimensions of horror)-Gaze upon the ancient face you dread (lonnie)... Passing through the doors, into Dimensions Of Horror. Haunting visions from the past, rise once more.Realms of darkness, terror, death and gore.Scream in fear, your sanity is lost
demogorgan (SCHORCHED)-Terrorizing madness. Vivid dreams. internal.
Hallucinating the unknown. Abstract entities prey.Through superhuman abilities.Fragments of memory erased.

Maybe a coincidence or a hint at Will having both male &female alters?Billy (dude looks like a lady)- What a funky lady...Oh, he was a lady.Dude looks like a lady. Hopper (turn the page)-All the same old cliches,"Is that a woman or a man?" Max ( rebel rebel) (this was on her her pre s3 spotify list + post s3 âwrapped listâ)- you got your mother in a whirl, doesnât know if youâre a boy or girl?Â

'Cause I ain't got nothing to give.Don't lean on me man
'Cause I ain't got nothing to give.My children they're right behind you
My children they're gonna beat you.My children if you let them
Oh, oh, my children.
demogorgan (black dahlia-window): Iâm not quoting the lyrics you can just look it up. itâs messed up.Based on the 1st person pov of Gilles de Rais -k**ler and p*d*rest who also kidnapped a cleric.
Will (creature comfort)-Some boys hate themselves.Spend their lives resenting their fathers... hate their bodies .Stand in the mirror (another mirror ref) and wait for the feedback. Some boys get too much, too much love, too much touch.
Jonathanâs Playlist- Weâre happy family: âEating refried beans (poverty). Gulpinâ down Thorazines (pills for a mood disorder). We ainât got no friends (s2 ref). Our troubles never end. Daddy likes men. Daddyâs telling LIES.â
Jonathanâs playlist-Enter sandman: âDonât forget my son. Sleep with one eye open. Gripping your pillow tight, Exit light, Enter night. Take my hand, weâre off to never-never land. Somethingâs wrong, shut the light, heavy thoughts tonight. Dreams of LIARS and of things that will bite, yeah. Hush little baby donât say a word, and never mind that noise you heard. Itâs just the beasts under your bed, in your closet in your head.â
Jonathan (The killing moon-guy sings this)-So soon you'll take me up in your arms. Too late to beg you or cancel it. Against your will!He will wait until you give yourself to him...In starlit nights I saw you.So cruelly you kissed me... unwillingly mine.
jonathan (haunted)-You and I both know that the house is haunted
And you and I both know that the ghost is me. You used to catch me in your bed-sheets just a-rattling your chains.Well back then , it didn't seem so strange...In the midnight hour..I was busy trying to charm that snake.
When the sun came up we had no place to hide...You and I both know that the house is haunted yeah you and I both know that the ghost is YOU!
You used to walk around screaming, all slamming all 'dem doors
Well I'm all grown up now and I don't scare easy no more
But you and I both know.
Hopper (Confession)-Now I'm on the low
Confession, to a virgin ghost
Admission, force you know.
hopper (Tomorrow )

Max (Last caress)-I got something to say.I k**led your baby today. And it doesn't matter much to me.As long as it's de*d.Well I got something to say.I r*ped your mother today. And it doesn't matter much to me.As long as she spread. (Lonnie pov? Neil?messed up song to be on Maxâs list)
hopper House of the rising sun-
And my father was a gamblin' man
Way down in New Orleans...
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
Max Poor relations-An attitude, no patience, he's paper thin.Talking over everything you have to say...Don't correct the things he said, what's the use? Can't handle violence. Can't handle violence.Learning to love the abuse you can't live without.Your familiar oppression, your daily injustice...That loser man that belongs to you, he's ruling you.
el (sweet dreams are made of this)- Some of them want to use you
...Some of them want to ab*se you.Sweet dreams are made of this...Hold your head up.Keep your head up, movin' on.
Max (Alternative ulster)-They say they're a part of you.And that's not true, you know. They say they've got control of you.And that's a lie, you know. They say you will never Be free, free, free
max In bloom-âSometimes at night I let it get to me.And last night it had me down and feeling NUMB...And thinking back upon those days Way way back when I was young.I was such a little shit.Cos I was always on the run.Well you know just what they say-Just like father then like son.Don't delude me with your sympathy.Cos I can do this on my own.And this will be the last time-That I break down and wanna crawl to bed. â(since Billy has a playlist I found this song choice being on hers instead of his interesting- in fact almost all of Maxâs songs are from the 1st person perspective of a boy unlike the other gals.)
Max (comfortably numb)-The child is grown. The dream is gone.I have become comfortably NUMB.
hopper (numb)-Honey, here I go again
Down that crooked road of sin.My momma locked me out again
And hung me high to rust under the rain
I am NUMB( 8x)....Little bluebird at my window
Sing a pretty song for me
Don't you know that you can fly, fly, fly away
Don't you know that you can leave
I am numb.
other psych songs
Hopper (life of sin)-Every morning when I rise I look in the mirror (another mirror ref) and despise the sight of everything and all that I've become.
The level of my medicating some might find intimidating
But that's alright cause' it don't bother me none.
Max (Moon over marin)- âDive in my scalding wooden tub (connects to mf/el)...There, wasn't that a nice visit?Don't forget, a psychiatrist is on duty twenty-four hours a day in the blue room...Drink plenty of water when you take these. Now you can relax.â ( I wonder if stranger writers saying to âdrink plenty of waterâ is secretly a line said by a psych person in s4?)
Max (Feeling ok)-My doctor says that I should take it -At least I won't have to keep faking.I know, someday I'll find it-Where I, I least expect it.Today I know I feel ok.
Max ( Going gets tough)-.No home since the fire.Me and the ash can't settle down...So I sink another round-Placebo for pain. And there's no one for to blame . I refuse to accept-That my work is all in vain...Still always remembering .When the going gets tough .That the labor of our love-Will reward us soon enough.
Max (Comfortably numb)-Hello? (Hello? Hello? Hello?)Is there anybody in there?Just nod if you can hear me.Is there anyone home?Come on now-I hear you're feeling down.Well I can ease your pain .Get you on your feet again.Relax // Now I've got that feeling once again.I can't explain . you would not understand. This is not how I am. I have become comfortably numb.I have become comfortably numb //Okay (okay, okay, okay)Just a little pinprick. There'll be no more, ah .But you may feel a little sick. Can you stand up?I do believe it's working, good. That'll keep you going through the show.Come on it's time to go// Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
Explanations of Why the mf (WIll the wise)behaves the way he does
demogorgan (ww) (Cowards starved)- friends think of me as a priest.I had to show them that the weakest hands Can still make impressive fires. (aka MF = will the wise)
demogorgan (ww) (Unmerciful):I will be reborn...Tranquil demeanor. Now devoured.Surfacingâmalice...I can't reconcile the torment others bring unto me.I will not take any reproach.Turning the other cheek.Relentless hatred consumes.Control released.Absolved of all compassion.I am free .Look into my hate filled eyes and tell me What do you see?Surging aura of my rage Paralyzing you in fear.
Demogorgan (ww) (bodies-Beaten why for (why for)? Can't take much more.(Here we go, here we go, here we go). One, nothing wrong with me,Two, nothing wrong with me.Three, nothing wrong with me.Four, nothing wrong with me.One, something's got to give. Two, something's got to give.Three, something's got to give now...You're all by yourself but you're not alone...Driven by hate consumed by fear.
