….so I don’t know trains. I know net zero about trains. I knew I wanted to do something vague and fun with them, so I just looked up “place I live” + “abandoned train” and found a blog from a couple years ago about an abandoned train someone found in the woods!!!!

That’s why their names don’t match their title, no one knows what their original make or model was.

-Mable is definitely the more serious twin of the two, as she really wants to get back on the tracks. She hates not knowing much about herself, but has resolved herself to be the best that she can despite this

-Marley is definitely more easygoing, more cheerful, and overall more content to chill in the freight yard with Belle. He’s made peace with his mysteriousness.

-Both of them barely leave the yard, because when they do train (HA) they do it closer to home, so they get their gossip from Rusty. Marley is probably a bitttt of a Greaseball fanboy at heart, and Mable thinks she could beat GB in a race and vows to do so whenever he’s brought up

I woke up with a realization. One reason I struggle to write longer works is impatience. I don't want to write, I want to have written something. So the secret is learning to enjoy the journey instead of always rushing toward the destination.

For context, I just watched a Youtube video about training yourself to read longer works by learning contentment--enjoy living in the world of the book instead of rushing through a reading list, because constantly watching how many pages you have until the end makes it more stressful so you're likely to abandon it halfway. I'm guilty of reading lots of short books because there are too many books I want to read for me to have patience for longer books.

This morning it hit me that I have the same problem with writing. I can't sink in to longer works because when I start one, I stress out about how long it takes to finish one scene, so imagine how long it'll take to finish the whole thing, and it's much easier to write only short works. But if I learn to luxuriate in the writing process and don't worry about reaching the ending, I'll enjoy writing a lot more and I'll be more likely to eventually finish.

I'm so glad you asked, it's my accidental longfic Pistons fic! I've been wanting to write Pistons fic for months and months but I always put it off because I didn't have a plot for Durvey (Jaden Ivey/Jalen Duren) that worked.

After Ivey got injured, I wrote fic to cope and then it kept getting longer and longer and I was like, "um I guess this is longfic now?" I have no idea if/when I will actually post it on ao3. I'm still working on it and haven't abandoned it yet, so we'll see!

If I posted it to ao3 then this would be the synopsis. I like to write this part early because I always get stuck and impatient when it's time to post. 💀

It was originally supposed to be only Duren/Ivey but then I added in Cade (and some minor background Tim Hardaway Jr./Malik Beasley) after looking at Pistons games and content. Hopefully I can write a proper trio somehow, but I've written Knicks trio so it can't be that much harder (famous last words, I hope not).

finally, FINALLY the first proper day of autumn, with a high of 71/22 degrees and a low of 47/8 tonight. it's supposed to get back up there next week but I am optimistic that Arizona's long summer has fucked off at last.

fall blew in on some cloud cover and a sprinkling of rain last night and inspired me to buy soup mixes at the bread store today. gently warm sun, cool breeze, cooler shade...I've been having kind of a hard time of it lately, but today everything felt easy and open and yet still solid around me. lifting my face up to that afternoon sky and taking a deep breath in felt so, so good.

honestly I don't think I can be mad at weird inconsistencies in stories, not really, bc I've been working on this detailed outline for my fancomic idea for so long, on and off, and now that I'm working on it again I had to go searching through an inch-thick pile of handwritten notes and three different digital documents (timeline, character profiles, a different outline) to try and figure out what the hell I had planned for continuities, only to find that I was about to write stuff that would have contradicted my earlier worldbuilding
