Muse Mixup Madness—April 1, 2024
(if you don't know what this is, see this post)
after a bit of a delay (my apologies for that!) it's time for our third round of muse mixup madness prompts! it's going to be a bit of a weird one given the holiday this falls on, but you can rest assured that's just for this one, and it'll all be back to normal next month.
before we get into the prompts, i want to say one thing explicitly. muse mixup madness is always optional, and there are no rules. if you'd rather do your own april fools' event, do that. if you want to do your own event but one of the prompts still appeals to you, there's nothing stopping you from using the prompt later in the month.
and of course, a reminder that if your muse mixup madness event involves potentially triggering themes that aren't typical for your blog, it's important to give your followers a warning and provide a way to blacklist that content.
with all that out of the way, it's prompt time! except for the last one, all of this month's prompts are low fantasy.
1. Wait, Who's This?
Everyone's had a passing thought of a muse that interests them, but isn't one they necessarily want to make a blog for. With this prompt, you'll be switching your main muse out for one of the ones that lives in your head, just for the day!
2. One-Two Switcheroo (requires partner)
It's time to put the "mixup" in Muse Mixup Madness! With your partner, before the event, take turns infodumping about your characters. Then on the day of, it's time for the two of you to see how well you can play each other's muses! As always, it's up to you how canon you want this to be.
3. You're Not Acting Like You
Every character has a few core personality traits. What would happen if you took one of them and inverted it? How much else needs to change for them to have turned out like that?
4. Sending You To Eebydeeby (high fantasy: may involve sapient pokémon)
What if your human character was a Pokémon instead? What if your Pokémon character was a human instead? With this prompt, it's time to explore that!
as usual, please leave a vote on the poll below for my records! also as usual, this is in no way binding and you're free to change your mind after voting.

Adoption poll round 3 match 3
Lillie (Pokémon)
Gideon Nav (The Locked Tomb)
Propaganda under the cut
Lillie (Pokémon) Propaganda
i don't expect her to win because gen 7 pokemon is a very niche fandom, but i had to submit her because her entire story centers around the relationship between mother and child, from both sides. first, she lives as part of a normal happy family with her mother lusamine, her father mohn, and her brother gladion. then her dad gets sucked through an interdimensional portal and her mother starts becoming more unhinged and abusive in the aftermath of that event. her brother runs away from home with a similarly abused experimental pokemon in tow, and things get even worse at home. Eventually, lillie builds up the courage to steal another mistreated pokemon (a little baby nebula thing from outer space she nicknames nebby) and run away herself. during the events of the game, lillie acts like a mother to nebby in a way that specifically contrasts her from most major pokemon characters, since she doesn't participate in pokemon battles for fear of pokemon getting hurt and doesn't even keep nebby in a poke ball, instead opting to use her bag to carry it. over the course of the game, she and nebby bond with the protagonist which culminates in nebby evolving into either solgaleo or lunala depending on the version during the climax of the story and lillie deciding to leave it in the care of the protagonist, since it's all grown up now and she doesn't think it would be as happy without being able to participate in battles.
Gideon Nav (The Locked Tomb) Propaganda
Please someone adopt my girl! She used to go visit her mother's niche in the catacombs and tell her decomposed corpse about her day, just to pretend there was someone who cared. All the family she ever had, found or otherwise, was some bones and her imagination that maybe the person those bones used to belong to once loved her. Then, when she was eight years old, the bones were taken away too. She is so desperate for love and affection she would most definitely die or join a cult about it. Save my girl from the cult, and give her a family. No one has ever told her they loved her, not once in her life. Let's change that.

Polls will start to be posted within the next week or so.
Bracket list under the cut!
UPDATE: LIST CANCELLED
*Starred shows have multiple theme songs or I have combined shows in a franchise in an effort to include as much as possible. These will have preliminaries built-into their polls on the first round. This is how it works: 1. all of the songs will go into a poll together against one other show; 2. the COMBINED votes for those songs will determine which show wins that poll; 3. only the top voted song for that show/franchise will move on, if the show has won the poll. (If you are confused it will make more sense when we start, I promise!)

Propaganda for both shiny Weavile and shiny Sneasel:
Sneasel was my first shiny in Pokémon Go (hatched from an egg, no event going on) who I quickly evolved into a Weavile! He is my pride and joy.
But it gets better. A couple of days later, I caught two MORE shiny sneasels BACK TO BACK in the same parking lot (I cannot stress enough there was NOT a shiny event that day) who are now my beautiful daughter and son Artemis and Apollo; I made it their lore that my original shiny Weavile is their adopted dad. I love all three of my pink lemonade bitches So Dearly you should vote for them.

This was the most eventful voting day I’ve had so far
I get to the polling place with my brother and we got in line. I pulled out a book and read to pass the time.
A lady walked in and then right out. I thought she noped out because of the line but she came back fifteen minutes later with stuff from Dunkin Donuts and offered munchkins to everyone waiting which was so sweet
Halfway down the line, everyone jumps as a tornado siren goes off. It’s LOUD inside the building. For a split second everyone panics until we remember today is the first Tuesday of the month. We have a sensible chuckle. My brother is playing Pokémon Go as we wait. I make a joke that we did PokémonGo to the polls and he laughs. The woman behind us in a Women Don’t Owe You Shit t shirt hides her laugh. I have a captive audience waiting there in line with me but I don’t submit them to any more bad jokes. It’s early and we’re all tired anyway.
The line moves forward at a crawl. Voting is taking a long time. I see the poll workers/officials hurriedly leaving the voting room talking to each other. They look stressed. I hear mutters of a machine malfunctioning.
After about an hour of waiting it’s finally my turn. I hand in the ID sheet to the lady at the desk. She’s on the phone with someone else talking about how the ballot submission machine is pretty much broken. It takes multiple attempts to accept a ballot and that’s what’s holding everyone up. (This being my local voting site, I’m not surprised. Every time I go to vote there, there’s some kind of issue with the ballot box. But this time it seems it’s done for good.) I’m handed my ballot and I go pick a standing station to work on my ballot. The lady with the munchkins is behind us in line and she gifts the workers the rest of the donuts because she’s seen how stressed they are. They’re very grateful. It’s only ten in the morning and apparently no one is able to come fix the machine until three pm.
Halfway through the ballot. My marker dies. I go and ask for a new one and go back to my ballot. The little standing desk things are not optimal height for me. I’m bent at the waist squinting to make sure I fill the ovals correctly. My back aches. The married couple beside me are asking each other questions about the ballots. The husband goes into the wife’s station to help her out and they’re talking so loud I can’t concentrate.
Five minutes later an election proctor? Official? Idk. Asks another poll worker why there’s a citizen working on their ballot openly on a table in front of everyone instead of a partitioned station. The poll worker gives his reasoning and she says that’s not allowed, she’ll have to write him up for that. They argue over this for five minutes because the male poll worker doesn’t seem to understand why what he did was wrong. This argument is loud enough for everyone to hear in this small, cramped room as everyone in the cubicles around them are trying to vote. It’s awkward as hell. I text my brother “😵💫”.
I’m done. I take my ballot sheets and carry them to the machine to submit it. There’s a long line waiting but the machine is revolting against its overlords and the poor poll workers have thrown their hands in the air. We are at the mercy of outdated tech and slow response times.
We’re asked to just submit our ballots physically into this large ballot bin with a slot on the side. One of the officials mournfully tells me she really wanted to get this location the touchscreen voting machines and I sympathize with her. It was a long shot anyway for this dinky little local park. I drop my ballot into the slot and am handed my sticker. I exit the building but notice the line is longer now. Everyone looks exhausted. I feel for them but am glad the turnout is high so far.

SEPTEMBER 1ST
I started to work on another new art piece. This time, it was created digitally. I figured that if I can't complete any traditional artwork, I might as well focus on digital work instead.
I didn't have much reason to be sad. Today was the day I created a new poll for my website. This poll will help me decide the new character for MEOWCO. You can send your vote here!
SEPTEMBER 2ND
Saturday seemed a little uneventful. I finished that new artwork from yesterday. However, I won't be able to upload it to my website until tomorrow due to personal reasons.
When it came to Pokémon, Shelgon evolved today. It was a good thing I focused on his Speed before he evolved.
While in Sandgem Town, I decided to talk to Dawn to see if she had anything new to say to me. To my surprise, I unlocked the ability to fight her.
If you want to see this match for yourself, you can watch it here. Seeing her use Magmortar reminded me that I should train my own at some point.
You don't say?
I managed to find a Sneasel on Route 217 that held a Quick Claw. Naturally, I caught it.
Since I didn't need the Sneasel, I took her to the Global Wonder Station to start a chain of Wonder Trades.
I didn't get any new Pokémon. But the events that happened in the GWS were still pretty interesting.
I don't know who this Cog person is. But they must have teleportation powers if they can be in two places at once.
After my next Wonder Trade, I marked my 250th point.
I thought I wouldn't see this screen again until I marked 300 points. The Rare Candies will be of great use in the future.
SEPTEMBER 3RD
I finally finished my new art piece. (The first real piece of artwork I've drawn since July.) I based it on an official crossover between the Pokémon franchise and Hatsune Miku. (Yes, that is something that ACTUALLY exists) You can view it on my website.
SEPTEMBER 4TH
I visited the Jubilife TV Station to win my daily lottery prize. I was expecting something like a Lucky Egg or some PP Up. Instead, I got the first prize:
It's not a Master Ball. But it's still something handy. I knew visiting this place every day would pay off!
After another battle, I went back to Pokémon Violet to add more Pokémon to the Paldea Pokédex. One of the Pokémon I needed was a Primeape. And luckily, there was a shiny Primeape available for trade on Pokémon HOME's GTS. I got it in exchange for the Cresselia I caught last month.
I knew I'd be able to trade her for something someday.
SEPTEMBER 5TH
I struggled to complete some assignments because of the air quality. It was just as bad as the middle of the summer. Despite that, I still managed to get things done.
I thought about taking on the Wi-Fi Room in the Heartgold Battle Tower again. This time, I'll use a Ditto with Quick Powder to deal with the hacked Pokémon in the 7th round. Even though it sounds like a solid strategy, my current internet connection doesn't support non-DSi enhanced games. I'll find a way to connect it someday.
In Pokémon Violet, I was going to fly somewhere until I came across a wild Sliggoo. It was a roaming Tera Pokémon that was at a low level. Fortunately, Braixen was enough to lower its health so I could catch it.
In all honestly, that might have been one of my difficult catches in this game.
Speaking of catch, these Poké Ball descriptions are a little confusing.
Is the Dive Ball more effective than the Lure Ball? Is it the other way around? Someone should have written these in a way that explained the Ball functions more clearly.
While trying to find Flabébé, I decided to talk to one of the nearby picnickers. To my surprise, she gave me some new sandwich ingredients.
The interaction made me talk to other picnickers. Sure enough, they also gave me some things for sandwiches.
While the ingredients were cool, I was disappointed in the fact that I couldn't join in with the other people on the route. (Like with camps in the Sword and Shield versions.)
I used Pokémon HOME to transfer a few Pokémon I needed to complete the Paldea Pokédex. While I still had the game open, I converted some of my HOME Points into Battle Points for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond.
I spent some of the new BP on a Muscle Band for CHAIRMAN.
Back in Violet, I was looking around for a Masquerain. I stopped to fight this Poké Maniac just for his dialogue.
But Pokémon ARE like the monsters in movies. (At least most of them are...) I thought I had to reset the game because he had a Pokémon that could help raise the stats of my Pokémon. That was until I realized Bagon was the only one he had on hand.
This might be the first time I've heard Pokémon be referred to as "monsters" since 2005. (And outside of Japan, too.)
But Pokémon always win.
After I beat that guy, I went off to hatch a Slakoth. But not before witnessing a Magikarp aimlessly flop around, waiting to become dinner for some predator.
After racing around on Miraidon for a bit, the Slakoth finally hatched in one of the Ten Sights of Paldea.
Secluded, this is not.
With a nearby Crabrawler, the caught Pokémon total rose to 355. Now there's only 45 more Pokémon for me to deal with.
A task I'm sure I won't have any trouble with in the slightest.
AUGUST 6TH
I managed to speed up my schoolwork and completely embarrass someone by getting better grades than them in my classes. I wish most of my school days could be like that.
When I went to see the Pokémon I got through Wonder Trades in Pokémon HOME, I managed to get a Chatot.
It came from the DP series and belonged to someone named Concert. I was about to trade it. But stopped after I learned about this Pokémon's value.
This Chatot is actually an event Pokémon. Given away in honor of the 10th Anniversary Concert held for... ...Pokémon's 10th anniversary. This explains the name and why it came from the DP series. What makes things more special is that I obtained this little guy through a Wonder Trade as opposed to the GTS or regular trades.

P J’s PokéAni Trivia Tuesday #15 (Global Tour edition)
Welcome to part 5 of 5 PTTs digging into some really cool PokéAni facts from all over the world! This one hits close to home for me, since I do come from Southeast Asia, which is why I saved it for the end of the tour. What I’ve noticed is that most dubs in Asia are mainly based on the original Japanese version (since well...Japan is in Asia, so duh?). And yes, this is the LAST Tuesday of this 5-week(ish) series doing global research of the Pokémon anime. I will go back to the regular trivia stuff I’ve been doing before this next week, so it is bittersweet to see this tour end, but hey I really had fun with it especially learning a lot of new things from different people and cultures! I also appreciate those who have commented about their country’s facts, and what they’ve experienced with it! One thing’s for sure about my research, and it’s that PokéAni is truly WORLD-WIIDDEEE! Now let’s look at our final facts, shall we?
Pokémon anime in ASIA (...besides Japan)
In GREATER CHINA (收服神奇寶貝! Shōufú Shénqí Bǎobèi!) DID YOU KNOW? This section includes independent countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong & Macao. Anime episodes and movies have been dubbed into both Mandarin and Cantonese languages. Visit the official Chinese website for the Pokémon anime.
On July 10, 2015, a special event was also held during the premiere of movie 17 (The Cocoon of Destruction) in Shanghai to promote the new name for the translated word of ”Pokémon” in Chinese. As of 2017, the name change debuted at the start of the Sun & Moon series. The new Chinese translation for Pokémon is now called 精靈寶可夢 (Jīnglíng bǎo kě mèng) meaning Pokémon creatures.
The rename of the series has met some criticism among the fanbase, particularly in Hong Kong where it became a topic of socio-cultural and political controversy. Members of a radical political group named Civic Passion protested Pikachu's name change outside the Japanese consulate in Central, Hong Kong, as its original Cantonese name 比卡超 (Bǐ kǎ chāo) was changed to its Mandarin name 皮卡丘 (Pèihkāyāu). To avoid public backlash, the Sun & Moon anime released in Hong Kong uses the English pronunciation of Pikachu instead of its Mandarin name.
The 13th movie got released in Taiwan just 20 days after the Japanese premiere...probably the quickest release of a movie outside Japan ever.
Unlike the other dubs around the world, the Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese dubs subtitle the original Japanese opening and ending themes. However, there is an exception from the original Kanto saga. The localization team used an original song with minor edits made to the opening. Another exception would be in the Best Wishes series when Japanese officials requested them to make another original Mandarin theme song (though the Japanese theme was used in movies 14).
In SOUTH ASIA/INDIA (करने है हासिल! Karne hai haasil!) DID YOU KNOW? The Pokémon anime is available in the following South Asian territories: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Cartoon Network India had two additional dubs, Tamil (தேடி பேடிப்போ மெய்! Thedi Pedipo Mey!) and Telugu (వెతికి పట్టుకుంట! Vethiki Pattukunta!).
Around the beginning of 2014, Disney bought the rights to the Pokémon series in India. However, Disney did not acquire the rights for the anime's previous Hindi dub, so the anime had to be re-dubbed. The first ever episode of Pokémon had to re-air in its new cast in Hungama TV on May 19, 2014. Probably the LATEST premiere of the 1st episode of Pokémon!
Throughout Hungama TV’s anime run of Pokémon, a number of new blocks were introduced that were dedicated exclusively to the series. This includes: PokéThon, PokéVaar, and PakdoThon.
Despite the fact that Hungama TV airs material provided by TPCi (PokéAni English dubbing company) for the episodes, the Hindi dub for the first eight movies used footage from the original Japanese version.
From the middle of the second run of the Black & White season, Cartoon Network replaced the English opening with an original Hindi song.
In the PHILIPPINES DID YOU KNOW? The country airs English dub on Cartoon Network, while they also produced a Filipino dub of the anime is more aimed to Filipinos that naturally can't understand and/or speak in English.
The GMA channel aired the English dub every Friday nights to compete against a rival station which aired the Filipino dub of Digimon Adventure at the same time. This is a very similar situation I mentioned with Brazil.
PokéMania was a special segment created by Cartoon Network to air past seasons of the Pokémon anime every weekend mornings. The segment, however, did not air continuously. Every time the segment changes season, a number is added to the title that corresponds to that season number (e.g. PokéMania 5). The segment aired all of the anime's season up until the seventh. Later on, Cartoon Network aired the reruns of the eighth to nineteenth season but not under the segment's name.
Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened was the FIRST ever Pokémon movie to hit Philippine theaters. It premiered in the country on November 13th 2013, and a Mewtwo event was distributed at SM Megamalls between November 16 and 17, 2013 for the special occasion.
Similar to Veronica Taylor and Sarah Natochenny, the Filipino dub VA for Ash, Klariz Magboo, voices Delia Ketchum as well.
In VIETNAM DID YOU KNOW? Their version of the anime was a voice-over translation (based off the original Japanese version) rather than being dubbed into the Vietnamese language.
In winter 2013, HTV3 (a well known dubbing network) created a poll on their website for everyone to vote for programs they would like to see aired on their channel. Pokémon was one of the choices, and within a few weeks, it was announced that they would air the Pokémon anime for the first time EVER Vietnamese television on January 25, 2014. An official Facebook page and YouTube channel were created for fans to discuss and take part in fun activities. Weekly games pertaining to the broadcast are held with Pokémon merchandise offered as prizes for the winners.
The anime debuted with the Best Wishes series, which is rare because most of the world have at least aired the first episode of the original series. They even released the 2015 Best Wishes calendar in December 2014 to promote the re-release of the Pokémon Adventures manga.
A controversy arose with fans due to HTV3 re-dubbing many of the Pokémon cries (except for Satoshi's Pikachu), despite that the Pokémon names are the same as in the Japanese version they are using.
When the XY series aired on VTV2, the show had two time slots. Half of an episode (approx. 12 mins.) is aired from Monday to Saturday at 05:45pm, while full episodes (approx. 25 mins.) are aired on Saturday and Sunday at 10:40am. I mean...what TV station does that???!
The Vietnamese dub had original music sung by Vietnamese artists such as “Eternal Friendship”, used for both the opening and the ending for the XY series, “By My Side” used for the ending theme in movie 19, and “Best Friend” were used for the ending theme in movie 20.
In other ASIAN COUNTRIES DID YOU KNOW?
In South Korea (헤이! 포켓몬 마스터), the Korean dub has banned 20 episodes so far, including the ones banned in Japan. These banned episodes usually included overt references to Japan and Japanese culture, especially the early episodes from the original series. This is due to the rocky history (bad blood) between Japan and (South) Korea after Korean Independence at the end of World War II. What’s really weird is that the Korean dub is actually based off the original Japanese version. Despite that, many of these unaired episodes were released on DVD.
In Thailand (มาจับโปเกม่อนกันเถอะ! ma jub pokemon gun ter!), the Thai dub was very inconsistent during the first couple of years airing the series on television. It aired on Modern Nine TV around 2008, but disappeared on the air since then. The anime then reappeared again in April 2010 with the start of the DP series. Currently ongoing is the Sun & Moon series (licensed by True Corporation and True Visions) that airs on weekends.
In Singapore, the anime mainly airs the English dub from the United States, however in the twentieth movie (I Choose You!), the ending theme was replaced with a song called “Future” by an artist known as Beverly.
In Indonesia, is one of the few countries that aired BOTH the English dub and the original Japanese episodes (with their Indonesian subs). Their dub is mainly based on the Japanese version; however, the proper names from the English dubs were used. On another interesting note, an episode that featured Shaymin in the DP series aired on January 8, 2012; coincidentally enough, was also the Indonesian movie TV premiere of Giratina and the Sky Warrior that aired later on that day.
In Malaysia, the Malay dub of the Diamond & Pearl series was based directly on the Japanese version, however as the production progresses toward the next sage, the Black & White series of the Malay dub was based on the English dubbed version. Today, the Sun & Moon series is currently airing in English with Malay subtitles every Saturday afternoons.

State of the Wall: 12-2-17
New State of the Wall post! Lotsa stuff happening, so click under the cut to see what's happening!
Schedule of Upcoming Episodes 12/4 – Clive Barker’s Hellraiser Dark Holiday Special 12/11 – Sensation Comics #14: The Story of Fir Balsam 12/18 – Steam Wars Christmas Special 12/25 – Christmas with the Superheroes #2 1/1 – My Top 15 Favorite Episodes of AT4W 1/8 – PATREON: Legion of Superheroes: The Great Darkness Saga 1/15 – Patreon Viewers’ Choice (NFL SuperPro #2, Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos #3, or James Bond, Jr. #1) 1/22 – PATREON: JLA/Avengers 1/29 – PATREON: Homestuck, Act 2
As always, the schedule is subject to change for any number of reasons, I’m pretty locked down with these choices… aside from MAYBE my Top 15 Favorite Episodes. I keep waffling on it, but for now it’s what we’re going with.
The Road to 500… and the 10th Anniversary 2018 will mark the 10th Anniversary of Atop the Fourth Wall! Needless to say, it’s going to be a big year for the show. If everything goes according to plan, there will be two storylines within it – the Contest of Champions arc that began in October as well as a shorter 10th Anniversary storyline whose name I shall reveal once we get to it, likely ending October 29th (if not the 22nd to coincide with the 10th Anniversary episode).
To celebrate this momentous time, every review that is not a Patreon-sponsored episode will be a follow-up to something from the past ten years! This would include sequel episodes to previous material, like another issue of something covered previously, a thematic follow-up like, say, from the same creators as a popular episode or could be thought of as following the same ideas as that episode. However, thankfully some of the Patreon-sponsored episodes themselves will be follow-ups, as indicated by the January 29th episode being the second act of Homestuck (which should hopefully make the many Homestuck fans asking for me to cover the next act happy).
Along those same lines, we’ll be doing the second Patreon Viewers’ Choice episode! The official announcement for the poll on that one will likely come at the end of the Top 15 Favorite Episodes of AT4W, but I’m letting you see the choices now to start thinking about it. The choice will be between three goofy tie-in comics I’ve covered previously – another issue of NFL SuperPro, another issue of Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos, or going all the way back to James Bond, Jr.’s first issue. I did return to James Bond, Jr. for a live show that hasn’t been put up yet, but we haven’t seen it on the show proper since the end of 2009. A comment on that issue is the source of the infamous “You’ll never be as popular as the BeeGees!” comment that is now immortalized on the back of the second DVD.
But of course there’s even another big even happening in 2018 as part of the 10th Anniversary – we’re going to hit the 500th episode! I definitely want to do some special stuff this year for the 500th, most especially being another livestream like we had for the 300th. It’ll take some time to plan, but here’s a list of ideas I have currently for it: -More testimonials, trivia, and anecdotes like in the 300th -Showing some otherwise-DVD exclusive content from all my DVDs, including the Movie -Showing the previous “100th episodes” – Sonic Live #1, Spider-Man: One More day, Holy Terror, and Marvel Super Special #7: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band -A live showing of the conclusion to Pokémon Omicron, where we’ll take on the Elite 4 -Various Longbox of the Damned episodes -Special guests -Live-riffing some shorts
These are all just ideas for the time being, so if you have any of your own, feel free to let me know! We’ve got 5-6 months until the 500th and I’d love to know what people think!
Platform Change 4: The Revengeance of the Whils VidMe has announced that they are shutting down their services as of December 15th. As such, there are going to be some changes in how things are handled around here. This is the FOURTH time that a platform has failed and I have had enough. We hadn’t even really finished replacing the vidme embeds on the LAST embed player change, so screw it: we’re going all in on youtube. There might be an option for Vimeo down the road, but for now, here’s in the broad sense what’s going to happen: -All Atop the Fourth Wall videos, from here on, will be thumbnail images of the title card that you click through to go straight to youtube. -All Longbox of the Damned embeds will be made into youtube embeds. Next year’s Longbox videos are currently up in the air, but hey – we’ve got ten months to figure that out and maybe have a tried and tested system in place. For now, it makes more sense to make them youtube embeds because of people’s nature in marathon-viewing videos and Longbox videos are short enough as-is. -New videos like vlogs, side content, and Let’s Plays will follow the title card thumbnail process being used for Atop the Fourth Wall. Old videos are up in the air, but they will likely be embedded videos just to make life easier on us as we once again replace everything. -History of Power Rangers… well, that’s a bit of a beast all on its own. Refer to the History of Power Rangers section below for more details.
As always, I ask for patience during yet another period of transition. Plenty of videos will be unavailable during this time (including crossovers in particular), but we’ll try our damndest to get things back to working order as soon as possible.
History of Power Rangers I’m happy to report that FINALLY, all of History of Power Rangers is back up after so many months of being down due to ContentID striking many of them from VidMe. Minor edits have been made due to the lengths of certain clips used…
…And you can only enjoy them for another 13 days because VidMe is shutting down. Or rather you can DOWNLOAD them for another 13 days using a third-party downloader.
Simply put: I’ve had it. These videos were made for a different time, when Blip was the main video host and longer usage of video clips wasn’t an issue. The platforms have dwindled and it’s down to youtube and I’ve already tried to upload these videos to youtube once before and it didn’t end well. The audio quality of these videos isn’t that great compared to my current standards and many of them utilized low-quality pirated versions of episodes recorded off of TV. I own all of Power Rangers on DVD now and new Power Rangers content that I put out has to come from legitimate sources like DVDs anyway. I simply cannot make these older versions work anymore. Don’t bother trying to suggest another video host like Vimeo or DailyMotion. Aside from both having their own ContentID systems, I am tired of trying to accommodate an inferior product.
Work will begin anew on the revised History of Power Rangers videos. While I had wanted to work on them in order, it took forever just to get the SLIGHTLY-edited versions back on VidMe due to my busy schedule. As such, I’m going to release them on youtube out of order, starting with Overdrive through RPM (Samurai, Megaforce, and Dino Charge already exist on youtube) because of their already-decent audio quality. If you want the old versions (and sadly that will now include the SLIGHTLY-edited versions that I have put up more recently), feel free to download them however way you can, because I am no longer going to try to support it. Let it not be said that I didn’t TRY to keep them up after so many years of fighting with various platforms over them.
I had planned to announce that it was likely the In Space History of Power Rangers would be delayed as it is simply due to the busy schedules of others needed to work on the “Under Pressure” section, but, well, here we are. Hopefully we can see HOPR restored to something better than it was once the dust completely settles.
Let’s Play Pokémon Omicron As stated in the last State of the Wall, the Pokémon Omicron streams are on hiatus due to finally reaching the Elite 4. Due to the various things I’ve had do to these last few months (not the least of which being concluding a storyline, Longbox, AND getting married) I’ve had little to no time to work on Omicron videos. As I’ve said before, I’d like to do a major stream for the Elite 4. If you look above, I’ve suggested fighting the Elite 4 as part of the 500th AT4W Episode Celebration Live Show and would like to hear some feedback on that.
Storyline Compilations In case you haven’t been following the youtube channel (which you probably should be at this point given what’s going on with VidMe – link HERE), the Game Show Reviewer (who does a lot of the special effects for the show) has put together compilation videos of the AT4W storyline! They feature JUST the storyline segments and occasionally a clip or two from a review for context (or because he felt a joke was funny enough to include). At this time, everything through the “His Blue Soul” arc has been released. The other compilation videos are done and uploaded, but I’m currently waiting for some ContentID claims on the Royalty-Free music to pass before I release the rest. Otherwise, you can enjoy the compilations currently available thanks to this hand-dandy playlist.
DVDs and T-Shirts Sale In honor of the holiday season, IT’S SALE TIME! All INDIVIDUAL volumes of Atop the Fourth Wall DVDs have been reduced to ten dollars (until December 26th), including the most recent – Volume 3: Character Reboot. In addition, Shark Robot is still running their Black Friday sale through December 6th – just use the promo code “BLACKFRIDAY17” on the two Atop the Fourth Wall t-shirts – “I am a Man” and “Because Poor Literacy is KEWL!” You can find those shirts HERE!
I’m working on getting some other sales ready for both the Screenwave store and the T-shirts, so feel free to keep checking back here for any updates on additional sales!
Event Comics Month II The first Event Comics Month was such a big success we’re doing it again next year! As before, it’s a vote by patrons at any level picking two DC and two Marvel event comics! You can check it out HERE, become a Patron, and make your vote known about what you’d like to see reviewed next year!
Patreon As a reminder, the Patreon-sponsored review tier for Patreon is still closed for the moment, with details you can read HERE. While I still don’t have a date yet as to when I plan to reopen them, I’ve been taking your feedback about it into consideration. A common train of thought is that any non-comic review should at least be in some way linked to comics, be it about superheroes or, at the very least, linked to something I actually regularly do/am in some way interested in (for instance, the occasional sentai reviews are fine given History of Power Rangers, or video games could be Star Trek or Pokémon or the like). I don’t think that’s too unfair a compromise given what people are thinking, but I wouldn’t mind getting more feedback about it during this time, so feel free to make your feelings about it known if you haven’t already!
That’s all I’ve got for now! Feel free to let me know your thoughts/concerns/questions for everything going on!

14 Ways to Outsmart the Instagram Algorithm
If you’ve been on Instagram recently, you’ll notice you probably haven’t received as many likes or comments as you did a year ago. When the Instagram algorithm was adjusted from chronological to algorithmic, many people worried engagement rates would drop.
Instagram’s own press release talked about favoring the moments you care about most, much like how Facebook’s algorithm operates.
So how does your brand stay present in users’ feeds without having to rely on ads? Luckily, there are some work arounds to get your Instagram posts visible.
Here are 14 ways you can make the Instagram algorithm work in your favor:
1. Invest in a Photographer or Videographer
Quality reigns supreme on Instagram. When most of the app’s real estate is taken up by visual media, it makes sense to hire a professional if you need one. Your photography needs to be eye-catching and designed for storytelling.
Instagram video posts are now on auto-play. Using videos gives you a slight leg up in grabbing those who are browsing their feed.
Playing bobarista this morning 🤗 Don't know if you guys know…but I love chia!! So when I saw @bobaguys video post on chia matcha latte with @oatly …I had to sketch it out and turned it to a mini animation😍🎥 @bobaguysnyc . . . . . . . . #bobaguys #bobabae #stopmotion #stopmotionanimation #stopmotionvideo #coffeecakescafe #eatersf #eater #matcha #matchalatte #boba #oatly #illustration #illustratorsofinstagram #foodart

Coffeecakescafe enjoys using a mix of illustrated photo and video posts. Her style is unique and the videos are always fun to watch.
2. Frequently Post Instagram Stories
One way to get around the decrease in post engagement is to expand your posting in another area. Instagram Stories offer a variety of engagement opportunities, including the newest Poll feature. The algorithm takes into account all actions of engagement like replying to a Story or sending a Story to someone. The more engagement, the likelier your posts will show up in the feed.
Mammoth Espresso demonstrates a fun way to use the Poll feature in Instagram Stories. It’s timely and relevant to their customers in New Orleans.

3. Use Live Video
Much like the previous suggestion, Instagram Live videos are another way of engaging with your followers. The video is bumped up in the Stories feed and your followers might also receive a notification if they opted in.
4. Run a Contest
One surefire way of increasing your engagement is to run an Instagram contest on a regular basis. Consumers love free items and it creates a little goodwill in your fan community. The frequency and rewards can vary, but the idea is to increase engagement and brand awareness.
TUESDAY GIVEAWAY!! Can’t make it to the fair? We’ve got your funnel cake needs covered; Like this, follow us, & tag 3 friends for a chance to win 10 DOZEN powdered sugar hot minis!! Winner announced tomorrow @ 5pm!

Sola Coffee used Instagram Stories and a post to advertise their donut giveaway. You can see on its standard post that they’ve received a lot of comments already. The Story they posted only encourages more entries.
5. Post Engaging Captions
Captions that ask questions or provide a call to action can help start some conversations with your followers. But don’t stop at asking the question. Be sure to reply to comments and continue the conversation, otherwise, your followers might stop engaging.

Stephanie Be travels often and likes to engage her audience. The questions are often relevant to their interests and helps boost her engagement rate.
6. Offer Free Advice or Information
Consumer education is one of the slower but more effective ways of building your brand. Offering information that’s useful for your fans can eventually turn them into paying customers. The advice can be posted on social media in small bites, in a blog post format and even in a newsletter.
Morning! Time for some fun with my new L|M Lightroom Preset Collection! You can get them via the link in profile, and I wanted to show what they can do. Swipe left to see some of the different presets in action as well as to see the unedited out of camera photo at the end. Ps. This dope mug is by my friend @notary__ceramics 😘 . . . Here are the presets used in order of image: 1. LM Cool Bright 2. LM Aqua 3. LM Contrast 4. LM Dark 5. LM Earthy Bright 6. LM Fade 7. LM Warm 8. LM Film Bright 9. LM Super Dark 10. Unedited photo! Sorry to say my presets won't take out outlets for you, but other than that nothing else was done to this photo other than a) apply the preset and b) use a brush to slightly lift the shadows on the waffles (because everyone's waffles should glow, amirite?? 😅) If you want to take your game further than Presets and learn photography, styling, and editing then check out our January Ecourse (also via link in profile!) There's still time today to use the code INSTAGRAM15 for 15% off of the presets (sorry, doesn't apply to ecourse!)…but the code expires this evening! This is a good example of giving information on how their photo processing works. Beth Kirby’s editing and photography style is distinctive. In her caption above, she goes into detail on what went into the editing process. She also released some Adobe Lightroom presets, which the post clearly illustrates.
If you consistently post educational content, you’ll begin to build up trust and engagement with your followers.
7. Jump on Trends
Whether they are fleeting hashtag trends or making holiday posts, timeliness is an important factor in the Instagram algorithm. This is not to encourage you to participate in every viral meme. Instead, choose the ones that are most applicable to your brand and test a post out with it.
The Pokémon Go mobile game was a trend last year that took over social media. Brands offered Pokémon-themed deals, posted about catching a rare one and even advertised if they were near a gym. The trend was massive and was a great opportunity for brands to attract new customers.

A post shared by Alec Cole Hinz (@yaaas_get_nailed) on Oct 16, 2017 at 5:47pm PDT
In the holiday trend, nail art is shown off not only in #halloween hashtag but also in the more specific #halloweennails hashtag. This post works to both remind their followers about prepping for Halloween and to showcase their creative skills.
8. Post During Active Hours
To increase your chances of higher engagement, schedule posts when your followers are most active. If you don’t have an idea yet, you can take a look at our post for best times to post on Instagram.
If you have a business account, you can see which days and times have the most engagement. Since brands differ, it may not be the same as our chart above. Using Sprout Social to schedule your Instagram posts makes it easy to post at the optimal time.
Stick to the schedule that works best for you and drives the most engagement to beat the Instagram algorithm!
9. Join an Instagram Pod
This one may take a little more searching and organizing. The idea of an Instagram Pod is to let everyone in your group know when you’ve posted. Then ideally, everyone visits the post and likes it. The post receives a bump in engagement in the first hour it’s online and is interpreted as a good post by the algorithm.
To do this effectively, you’ll need to find some like-minded individuals, hopefully in your industry or with a similar follower base. Everyone also needs to be committed to the pod so all the accounts are receiving their due attention.
10. Incorporate Instagram Ads
The downside of algorithmic timelines is that you need to boost your posts when they’re time sensitive. If you have an event you’re promoting or a product that you want to talk about at a certain time, Instagram Ads are the way to go.
Ads now offer a wide variety of goals and targeting options. You can learn more in our helpful guide to Instagram Ads.
Keds used a video to announce a collaboration between their company and Rifle Paper Co. Rifle is known for their eye-catching floral designs, so the fast-forwarded video animation with floral illustrations was a great way of announcing the new product.
11. Consider Influencer Marketing
If done right, influencer marketing on Instagram can help you with brand awareness, sales and new customers. The best influencers collaborate with brands but still manage to stay authentic to their personality.
Just launched a video with @prada and @gq! Check it out for a peek into #MyPeakMoment. #GQInsider #PradaLunaRossa
A post shared by Patrick Janelle (@aguynamedpatrick) on Oct 17, 2017 at 7:37am PDT
This video collaboration tells a story of a product in a way that still fits Patrick’s personal brand. It also reaches an audience that the brands may not have direct access to.
12. Get Personal
We all see glossed-up and styled product images on Instagram. When you offer a behind-the-scenes look or write honest captions, your followers are more likely to engage. Authenticity is a word that’s thrown around a lot. At the most basic understanding, you don’t want every caption or image to be 80% advertising words.
The struggle is real. Still in development. . . #ktandpaul #art #screenprint #printmaking #serigrafia
A post shared by ktandpaul (@ktandpaul) on Feb 5, 2018 at 4:56pm PST
Paul demonstrate hand screen printing on silk in this video. It shows a dedication to their craft and the work that goes into each piece.
13. Develop a Strong Visual Brand
Create a photo editing and taking style that is distinctive to your brand. When you develop a strong visual brand, your customers are able to identify you from your photos and subliminally begin to associate you with certain visual attributes.

The Color Factory popped up in San Francisco in a burst of rainbows. Every room was deliberately designed for maximum color and photo taking. Their Instagram feed is filled with images of the rainbow ribbon curtain, yellow ball pit and other areas. If you’ve followed them for a few weeks, you can identify the brand solely from this image.
14. Plan Out Your Profile Page
Part of the Instagram algorithm calculations takes into account the content that you’re most interested in. This includes the searches you perform or the clicks you take to profile pages. If you spend time to map out what your page looks like, your followers will begin to get used to it and eventually start clicking over to see what’s new.
Beyoncé’s Instagram page has been very active recently with a fun mix of videos, photo galleries and collage. It’s clear that each post in the row is visually related to the next.
In Conclusion
Instagram is constantly receiving adjustments in its algorithm, so it takes a little patience and flexibility to see what works best for you. We recommend using Instagram analytics and reports to easily summarize what’s working for you and what’s not.
Our Instagram reports come with handy statistics like your top influencers engaged and details on your top performing posts. The less you have to think about in compiling a report, the more time you have to dedicate to strategy.

Outlet and all 🙈 . . We're sending out a new discount to our blog subscribers this afternoon so you can join at localmilkblog.com to get a code if you miss this one! And stay tuned for the travel collection and food collection to be released in the coming weeks! #livemoremagic #morningslikethese #localmilkfilter . . . . #foodphotographer #foodblogger #foodstyling #inspiremyinstagram #beautifulcuisines #feedfeed #f52grams #theartofslowliving #pursuepretty #thekitchn #waffles #photographylife #lightroom #gatheringslikethese #dslooking #nothingisordinary #habitandhome #theeverydayproject #yahoofood #buzzfeast #huffposttaste
