boy it's me the self-taught seamstress. this is not just a hobby this is also just a useful skill to have, making your own clothes is cheaper after a certain level of quality and they'll fit you better, being able to repair them instead of replacing them is better for you, the environment, and your wallet. overcome the allure of cheap badly-made slave-produced polyester and join us.
you can even get antique sewing machines for less money than modern ones because they were built like tanks in enormous numbers- (I am forcibly dragged away from your brain)
I don't know who needs to hear this, but
YOU DO NOT NEED TO START A NEW HOBBY!
STEP AWAY FROM THE TEXTILES!
YOU DON'T NEED MORE YARN!
THAT FABRIC IS NOT CALLING TO YOU! LEAVE IT ALONE!
#even with expensive fabrics if you can afford the time to make your own clothes the clothes will cost you less money#i'm planning to make a 100% wool tweed coat before winter arrives#a comparative coat if I bought it would be $400 NZD even on sale#even with the tweed costing $65 a metre I can make it for half that#and it'll be made to my measurements#and yeah if I were including the labour cost at NZ minimum wage it'd be incredibly expensive but that is why the slave labour is bad!#the only reason the cheap shit can be cheap is because it's sewn by slaves for nothing who are forced to prioritise speed over quality#clothing is a quality artisanal good and fast fashion is a fucking scourge

🗒 ꒰⸝⸝₊ General Dating Headcanons ❛ ✧
Featuring: Astarion, Gale, Wyll & Halsin
# Note: content warning for very brief talk of abuse and general trauma back to navigation ´ˎ˗
🌿┊ASTARION
Talk about touch and attention starved. This guy wouldn't know a healthy relationship if it hit him in the face. Whenever you're nice to him or touch him without any innuendo, he's on edge. You must want something from him. Why else would you be doing this? It doesn't make sense.
Speaking of which, touching him out of nowhere usually doesn't end well. He has a tendency to flinch. He cackles and says he just thought he saw a bug, "Silly me," but you both know better than that.
He grows used to it, however. It just takes some warming up to. Eventually, the discomfort fades, replaced by a yearning so strong he swore he felt his heart beat again. When his brain realizes you don't want to hurt him and it's safe to be around you, he starts craving more contact. He's too prideful to ask, but he's not good at hiding it, either.
He loves any kind of compliment, don't get him wrong, but the ones that have nothing to do with his appearance seem to stick more. He's heard every single little praise possible for his face and body — but for his personality? For his mannerisms? If it ever happened before, he can't remember it.
Insists he doesn't like cuddling and only does it because you want to. But the one night you didn't, you woke up to him clinging to you anyway. He said he must've done so in his sleep, completely ignoring the fact elves can't sleep. Deception: critical failure.
Surprisingly protective. If you get hurt during a fight he goes ham on the enemy while yelling for someone else to take care of your wounds right now. He lost everything he had after Cazador — lost even himself to the hands of that sick, wicked man. He can't afford to lose you too.
The relationship started with him trying to manipulate you, sure, but that's not the case anymore. He cares. He genuinely cares for something other than himself for the first time in two centuries, and he's scared you still think you're being tricked by his charms. Again, he's too prideful for constant displays of affection, but he does say "I love you" more often than ever. Maybe if he says it enough times, you'll believe it.
He stares a lot. There's just something so endearing about seeing you in your own little world, oblivious to everything else, or at least oblivious to his gawking. It's the most honest part of you, the most yourself you could be, and he enjoys it from afar.
🌿┊GALE
So needy. You leave him at camp for a few hours and you come back to him acting like he needs to be sent to the seaside for his health. A year of living as a hermit does things to a man's necessities for attention.
Loves your scent. He doesn't share his clothes with anyone (that fabric is expensive, dammit), but he insists you wear them so that they smell like you later.
Despite being a cat owner, he's very dog-coded. Will do things with the sole purpose of receiving praise or kisses from you and gets extremely pouty when he doesn't.
Speaking of kisses, he takes any excuse conceivable to kiss you. Good morning, good night and good luck kisses are very much mandatory. Doesn't even have to be on his lips, he's more than satisfied with a cheek or forehead kiss as well.
He enjoys being taken care of, even if he complains. When you scold him for not sleeping over some ancient tome, he can't help but feel loved. Will return the favour, of course — especially if it comes to food. He's very insistent with the "three meals a day" thing.
Will read to you, there's no way around it. It's relaxing for both of you, so he doesn't see why he shouldn't. He also says he can pay attention better to the text when he says it out loud, anyway. You having your head on his lap as he does it is merely a bonus.
🌿┊WYLL
If this man has any flaw, it's that he's always trying to make every moment you spend together perfect and forgets to just lay back and enjoy himself. Even then, he only does it because of how much he loves you.
The last romantic! Goes all out with dates and gifts — fancy restaurants and the biggest bouquets you've ever seen. Money is no object when it comes to you. Truly a good old-fashioned lover boy.
Definitely has a saviour complex — the type to say "I can fix them" unironically. He just loved you and wants you to be okay, and if he has to drag you there himself he will.
Will go on rants about how smitten he is with you and how perfect you are on a daily basis. If you have to leave for the day, he'll write it as a love letter instead.
Always holding you close, but there's no possessiveness to it. It's a display of affection, not ownership. He's yours as much as you are his.
Loves taking showers together. Not for any sexual reason (though he wouldn't complain if things ended up going down that path), he just finds it incredibly intimate and genuinely enjoys washing your hair for you.
You're not just another romance to him — you're the love of his life, the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with, if the gods allow it.
🌿┊HALSIN
Despite the whole "Desire flourishes wherever it finds purchase" thing, he genuinely doesn't see himself falling for anyone else as he did for you. It's nice to know he could still indulge if he wanted, but for now, he doesn't.
Loves having his hair played with. There's just something so soothing about it. Or maybe it's his wild shape talking, asking for pets. We'll never know.
Always finds an excuse for you to sit on his lap. Again, not for sexual reasons, he just likes wrapping his arms around you and resting his chin on your head or shoulder.
Even though he isn't one for commitment, he has a constant, extremely severe case of baby fever. He obviously wouldn't push you if you're not ready, but he does make his sentiments on the matter known.
Stepping dangerously close to smut territory with this one, but he loves how small you are compared to him. The way he engulfs you entirely when he hugs you or how your hand disappears under his as he holds it — it's endearing to him.
I cannot go without mentioning how good his hugs are. Like, seriously. He's so warm and gentle but still strong and it makes you feel safe. It's the best thing in Faerun.
Loves how you look like wearing his clothes. It ties into the size difference thing, since they just look huge on you. Also, much like Gale, he has a thing for your scent, so there's really no downsides.

Old Scars (Part 1)
Ledger!joker x reader
Fem!reader is kidnapped by the joker and his henchmen while just trying to get a moment's reprieve from her boring, soul-destroying job ✨️
Tw: I mean, we all saw TDK, right? I'd say this is on the same level/rating. Kidnapping, violence, mentions of minor characters (not J) being misogynist/threatening SA, reference to past traumatic injury. Beyond this i'm not sure, i'll update these when I write more.
🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏🃏
I stared despairingly at the huge stack of paperwork my line manager had just slapped down on my desk. I sighed and bit the inside of my cheek. None of my male co-workers had to deal with her extra work. This was such bullshit.
"Ah, you are a life saver, (y/n). What would I do without you?"
Her own work, probably, I thought to myself, sighing in exasperation as she left me to my souless cubicle.
By the time i'd finished up, it was getting cold out. After taking a detour to try and stave off the inevitable return to my shitty apartment, I found myself in front of a particularly expensive shop. My feet were aching from the heels my backwards regional manager insisted on the female admin staff wearing and my head hurt from the tight bun my hair was scraped into. His smirk was etched into my brain, as were his vile words on his latest visit.
"You're a very attractive young lady, even with your face like that. Your body makes up for it."
I felt pure rage rising up again at the memory. It was the way he's said it as though he truly believed it was a compliment. The laughter of my coworkers rang in my ears. To them it was all a big joke and I was just too uptight to appreciate it.
What I wouldn't give to see the area manager humbled one day... but that was pure fantasy and I knew it. I wondered what he'd buy with his overinflated christmas bonus this time, while we were all given a meeting to explain why they couldn't justify a minor pay rise to ease the cost of living crisis in Gotham.
The twinkling lights of the high end window displays were a beautiful contrast to the bleary grey outside, and after another hellish day in the purgatory which was the cubicle farm, my heart warmed a little. Everything in the store was definitely well out of my meagre price range, but the inner child in me was drawn in to look at all the pretty evening dresses and jewellery. I shrugged to myself, figuring there's never any harm in window-shopping and a little indulgent fantasy. Even if I could afford any of the opulent dresses, half of them were really ball gowns, and what events was I ever invited to where you'd need a dress like that? No, those sort of parties were for Gotham's social elite - charity fundraisers, galas and that sort of thing, no doubt.
I was half expecting a staff member to immediately spot me in my regular civilian garb and herd me back out of the door like a stray dog but they seemed to be dealing with a particularly difficult customer at the tills. She was waving her arms around and pulling a "do you know who my husband is?".
I stifled a laugh at the image of her, in her ridiculous fur coat shouting frantically and looking like she was about to give herself a anyeurism, if the prominent vein on her forehead was anything to go by. I turned away from her soap operatics and back to the rails of clothes in front of me. I gently touched the fabrics, marvelling at the softness of the richest velvet. Gazing at cool silk like rippling water; nothing like the cheap imitation the rest of us were accustomed to. I got drawn into my own little world imagining who might wear each dress and for what occasion.
"Can I help you with something?"
The voice pulled out the rug on my little escape instantly. I felt anxiety rising in my chest but resolved not to panic completely.
"Oh, I was just browsing..." I said, faking the best dismissive tone I could.
"You're sure, I'd be more than happy to help. Do you want to try anything?" She pressed, a friendly tone rather than the suspicion I had anticipated.
Perhaps my work suit was giving a higher-end impression than I had realised... or maybe she was new here.
"This one is particularly lovely, don't you think?" She gestured to the garment I unknowingly had a hand on, pausing as she'd approached. She wasn't wrong, it was a rich purple, ridiculous really, with layers and layers of tule skirting, but somehow the fine cut and quality of the fabric, and the detailing made it look classy rather than like something out of 'my big fat gypsy wedding'.
When was I ever going to get the chance to try on a literal ball gown? I decided to play into it, after all, I could always say I needed to go away and review my options. They couldn't make me buy it.
"It is lovely," I murmured.
"Do you want to try it on?"
"If it isn't too much trouble..."
Before I knew it, I was being whisked into a dressing room. The shop girl came whirling in with the dress and began unfastening it for me.
"Shoe size?" She asked briskly.
I hurriedly blurted out my answer and she dashed back onto the floor.
I kicked off my uncomfortable work heels and removed my blazer, skirt and scarf. Somehow I felt even more like an imposter standing there in just my undergarments and a pair of tights. I hurriedly pulled the dress up and held it in place. Before I knew it, she'd returned and began fastening me up at the back.
I gasped, both from the air being pushed out of my lungs as she cinched the hidden corsetry, and in awe at what I saw in the mirror. I had never had particularly wonderful self-image, but since the accident, I'd really shrunk into the background. I had always been shy, but i'd become a total wallflower these days. I hated the public-facing parts of my job - if it was telephone or email correspondence, people couldn't react in their myriad shitty ways to my facial scarring, but sometimes I was on front desk duty. Those were the worst days for me.
She made a minor adjustment to my hair, pulling a few strands loose around my face. To my surprise, she hesitated as she saw my scars up close, but didn't recoil, or pull more hair out to try and hide them. Her delicate fingers lingered for a moment, hovering above where my eyebrow was split into three by the forks of red lightning which were still deeply scored into my skin. I had mostly made my peace with it, but it was other peoples' reactions to my face that caused me the most pain. The grimaces, the staring, looking startled, regarding me with pity, strangers asking me what happened, it could all just be too damn much some days. It was a rare and beautiful thing to have someone not react negatively in some way.
I knew I was lucky to still be in the land of the living, and that I was in remarkable shape considering what happened that day, but it had left an inescapable mark. I anxiously ran my fingers over my temple, over the metal plate holding my skull together somewhere beneath the skin. She pulled her own hand back away slowly.
"You look beautiful, miss," she smiled with a genuine warmth that made me begin to believe it. It seemed as though she could sense my sudden swell of insecurity.
The shop girl was young, couldn't be more than sevetneen or eighteen, and I prayed that she somehow retained her gentleness in a city as ugly as Gotham.
"Thank you," I said, tearing up a little.
The dress itself was surprisingly lightweight and not like some kind of Victorian horror complete with a hoop skirt. Instead, it looked quite modern, and had a lot of volume in the skirt due to the layers of tulle fabric, which meant that you could still dance with ease. I did a little twirl for good measure, watching how it flowed and moved around my form. The shop girl smiled at my childlike delight.
Unfortunately, my elation was shattered in an instant. A chorus of screams and panicked shouts, followed by a spray of gunfire hit us like a slap to the face. The shop girl's eyes widened in confusion and panic, and I grasped onto her arm to steady myself. We strained our ears, trying to make out what exactly was happening. My brain was struggling to make the jump from the moment I had just been experiencing to the very real danger we were now thrust into.
After a couple of agonising seconds, there was another round of shots, and I heard a gruff male voice shout;
"Everybody get down!"
"Try to stay calm," I whispered, my own voice shaking.
I herded us into the corner of the booth and desperately gestured for her to undo the corset, not wanting to have to run for my life in the stupid dress. I could hear crashing and footsteps, as though the place was being ransacked and bit the inside of my cheek as the girl shakily tried to loosen the cord for me.
"Check in the back, we don't want anyone calling the cops!" came a voice which sounded unsettlingly close by.
Suddenly, someone burst through the door into the dressing room. We froze, praying whoever it was, wouldn't round the corner, but sadly it was too late. The scraping metallic sound of the curtains of each booth being flung aside echoed around the room. I counted each one, feeling as though my heart had stopped beating altogether, sick with anticipation. They were going left to right, and would reach us soon enough.
The curtain to our booth was torn to the side, and an enormous man stood in the light. The shop girl let out a yelp of terror as she huddled behind me with her head in her hands.
"Found two hideaways!" He yelled out, lurching forward to grab at us.
In a blind panic, my body blocking him from the terrified girl behind me, I kicked and struck out like a feral street cat stuck in a trap. I got a few solid kicks in but was ultimately not match for the man towering over us.
"Quit struggling you stupid bitch," he spat, striking me across the face.
Dazed, and with my eye stinging already, I felt another pair of hands grasp me and haul me out into the open. The barrel of a gun was quickly jammed into the small of my back.
"Stop causing trouble if you want to live," he hissed.
A third figure appeared and roughly forced the girl to her feet as well.
"This one looks so scared she might piss herself," he chuckled.
"Leave her the fuck alone," I muttered through gritted teeth.
"Ooo, you got a mouth on you, huh, rich girl?" Said the one holding me at gunpoint.
"Mm the boss ain't gonna like that, maybe we should gag her," one of his companions snorted.
"Nah, leave it. I wanna see what he does if she gives him any back talk," crowed the third one.
They marched us out onto the marble of the shop floor. Both shoes had come off the moment i'd started to struggle against our attackers and the tiling felt cold as ice beneath my unsteady feet. I saw that there were three other men holding up the cashiers and the handful of customers as they huddled together in one corner.
"Look what we found in the back," announced the biggest of the three men, shoving us forward.
It was only then that I noticed everyone's attention seemed to be drawn to one man, a man who I couldn't yet see, on account of him facing away from us as he nonchalantly rifled through the nearest rack of clothing.
He was a fairly tall man, perhaps a little over six feet, wearing a long coat. It was well in need of a wash, covered in dirt and ashy, yet still obviously purple in colour - though perhaps not the vibrant purple it once was. His hair could best be described as messy; a straggly mop of green waves, with his natural brown hair showing through at the roots and in patches. His body language was odd, the way he held himself, with his shoulders hunched, unsettled me.
As he turned around, to see what his henchmen had brought in, I felt a pang of total despair. I recognised his streaky painted face from a recent news broadcast, and I knew instantly that we were in deep trouble. This was the man they called 'the joker'. I could hear the poor shop girl sobbing behind me somewhere, barely hiding her sheer terror.
"Ah more guests for our little party," he exclaimed, his voice and intonation seeming as erratic as his physical movements.
"What you want us to do with them, boss?" Grunted the shorter goon to my left.
"Put them with the others," he gestured, stalking forward.
I turned to watch as he approached the shop girl, my heart in my throat.
"And who do we have here?" He asked, in a tone mimicking gentleness, which was even more unsettling than his usual, more sinister way of talking.
"S-sarah," she choked out between sobs.
"S-sarah? What's wrong s-sarah? Are you s-scared?" He cooed, practically circling her like a big cat.
I felt sick watching him toy with her, and anger began to rise in my chest. Sarah nodded defeatedly.
"Please don't hurt me," she whimpered, unable to look him in the eyes.
"Oh now why would you think we are gonna do that?" He exclaimed.
She didn't seem to know how to answer.
"Just do everything we ask, and some of you will live," he grinned patting her on the head, "put her with the rest," he gestured dramatically to the others in the corner.
His goons did as he asked and shifted her to where the others were cowering in the corner. I bit my tongue as his attention now shifted to me.
"My my, what a pretty dress, I love the colour," he purred, barely three strides away from me now.
I said nothing, hoping he would somehow just lose interest. There was still the largest goon stood beside me, pistol jammed into my lower spine so I didn't want to antagonise either of them.
He got close enough to reach out and touch me, pulling off one of his leather gloves with his teeth. The red painted smile, already smeared and smudged, left its mark on his finger tips with the clumsiness of his action. I was trying very hard to keep a steady breath, refusing to panic as I knew it would only worsen my situation.
"What's the matter? Are you shy?" He asked, that fake empathetic tone creeping in again.
"No, I just don't find that a hostage situation lends itself to free and easy conversation," I snapped back, unable to suppress my anger fully.
He tilted his head to the side, a glint in his dark brown eyes as they searched my face, scanning, analysing. In defiance, I stared right back.
In my struggle with his henchmen, my face had become half obscured by the hair which had come loose from my bun, and my hands being behind my back, I had not been able to move it out of the way.
Suddenly breaking his stillness, he reached inside his coat pocket and withdrew a knife. The switch blade swung open with a characteristic clack. I bit my tongue even harder to try and subdue my panic.
He reached out his ungloved hand to rougly grasp my face. Everything within me was screaming to struggle free, to run for the hills, but I was stuck. I'd be shot down before I made it two steps, I knew that.
"You are beautiful," he mused, " tell me, does this," he moved the knife barely an inch from my face, "does this, scare you?"
I grimaced, unable to stop myself from recoiling at his skin touching my own.
"Do you ever wonder what life is like for the ugly?" He asked, flatly.
Undeterred by my shrinking away from his touch, he roughly used his fingers to comb my fallen hair back away from my face. Once the curtain of hair was lifted, my scars were revealed, and his face took on a curious, unreadable riot of emotion for a split-second.
"What's the matter, am I not as beautiful as you thought?" I muttered sarcastically, wanting to pre-empt his inevitable mockery.
He clearly liked to pick people apart, to try and tap into their biggest fears, so it seemed a sure thing that he would have plenty to say about my face. This only made me all the more dumbfounded when he put away the knife and his grasp on my face melted into something altogether tender.
His fingertips gently brushed over the deep valleys of my old wounds as though he was trying to read my story. I felt him follow the fork from my hairline at my temple all the way down, bridging my eye, down my cheek to the point mid way along the lefthand side of my jaw where it ended. As he did so, I saw for the first time up close his own grisly scars which formed a sort of permanent smile. The makeup he applied over the top made it harder to see from afar just how extensive they were. I knew from my own experience that the wounds had been more than skin deep, into deep muscle tissue. You could tell by how raised and pitted they were.
The man holding me at gunpoint seemed not to have picked up on this sudden change of pace, as he had plenty to say, even if the joker didn't.
"I shoulda warned you, she's a butterface," he chuckled, "you should do the other side to match, I already made a start," he gestured to the split eyebrow and puffy eye he'd given me on my good side.
The joker's body language rapidly changed again. I felt him tense up, even in his fingers against my cheek. It was as though every fibre in his body was taught suddenly, like he was a rubber band about to snap. His eyes seemed to darken, his irises almost like black pools against the black paint encircling them. I was suddenly very afraid.
He looked down at my face with an air of detachement, his tongue flicking against the inner corner of his lip.
"Would you excuse me for a second, doll?" He grinned, before his smile dropped flat again the moment he straightened up to full height.
"Give me the gun," he comanded of his goon.
"But boss..." the burly man protested, before removing it from my back and reluctantly handing it over.
There was a deafening crack and the smell of gunpowder filled my nostrils as my ears rang. Some of the hostages cried out in fear and for a moment I thought he must have shot me. I stumbled on the stupid dress, falling to the floor with a crash, dazed, my ears still ringing as I rolled onto my side, preparing for my seemingly imminent death.
Unexpectedly, my vision began to clear and the ringing dimmed down enough that I could try to collect my thoughts. I became aware of another figure in front of me on the floor. Someone was roughly pulling me upwards, trying to get me back on my feet.
"Up you get!"
Suddenly, I managed to re-engage my muscles enough to stand, swaying on legs that felt like jelly.
"There you go, see? You're fine," came a low voice to my left, practically right into my ear. I blinked hard as I began to make sense of what had just happened.
The joker shifted so that he was stood in front of me again, and gripped a hand under my jaw so that he could look me in the face. He turned my somewhat vacant face this way and that, as though he was checking I was still in there.
"Whoops! Probably should've told you to stick your fingers in your ears," he wheezed with laughter, releasing my face and waving the gun around casually.
My lingering confusion was cleared up when I realised the other figure on the floor was his own man. The others looked on, some unfased, some clearly very uncomfortable at this sudden decision to remove him from the equation entirely. He had shot him point blank, I couldn't bring myself to believe that it was in reaction to his insults. Surely this was just some kind of mind game going far beyond my comprehension... I didn't feel reasurred, I definitely didn't feel flattered, if anything it just showed the true unpredictability of the psychopath in front of me.
"Right, now that minor... detour is over, I want you all to stay calm, while we execute out little plan," he comanded, gesturing to the hostages.
Two of his men forced grenades into peoples shaking hands, pulling the pins so that they were forced to hold on to them, or risk them detonating. They produced a roll of duct tape and wound it around each pair of hands, so there was no chance of them tossing the grenades away from the group either. The others continued to stuff duffle bags full with the cash from the registers, and the jewellery from the display cases. I cursed the slow response time of the GCPD, although there was never a gurantee that their arrival wouldn't cause more of a bloodbath, since so many of them liked to shoot first and ask questions later. They had far too lenient of a threshold for 'collateral damage'.
I was expecting to be forcibly handed my own grenade, but instead the joker gestured to me. The way in which he waved me over was completely antithetical to the situation unfolding around us; it was so casual, as though we were long-time friends. Not seeing another choice, I gingerly approached him, and he, losing patience, roughly grabbed me by the arm and yanked me closer to him.
"These lovely people can stay here, but, uh, you..." he lingered on the word looking me up and down, as he taped my hands together in front of my body, "you, are coming along for the ride".
"Why?!" Was all I managed to get out as he shoved me roughly toward the front of the store.
He laughed, sending a fresh chill down my spine.
"Well, we have an opening, consider yourself the newest member of our operation," he said in a congratulatory tone.
Before I could respond at all, my head reeling in total panic, I was being tugged out of the door with my arms feeling like they were going to pop out of the sockets.

Eco friendly cosplay (Save the environment and your wallet)
Before I begin this post, I want to aknowledge that yes, changes made by individual people won't do much to save the planet in the long run, and yes we should really hold those big corporations that singlehandedly cause 70% of emission accountable. However, that doesn't mean that we can just go around using products that harm the environment all willy-nilly, and we should do our best to keep our impact to a minimum. The same goes for us cosplayers. I know cosplay is a fun hobby. Some of us use it to escape reality, other to find gender euphoria in it, some people just like to act and this is their way of showing that talent. But we can't deny that our hobby causes a lot of environmental stress, and we routinely use materials from highly environmentally damaging industries. Let's have a look Fabric we use is often synthetic. It's made from petrochemicals. EVA foam and thermoplastics are oil byproducts as well. And after that intense, environment-damaging process, most of us only wear the cosplay a few times, before we move on to the next big thing.. How can we change things, while keeping the hobby fun and affordable?
Shop in your own closet first. Many character actually just wear casual clothes that any random person can own. Check to see if you maybe already do.
You don't? Oh well. I assume you got a family and/or friends. Check their closet! After that? Thrift thrift thrift! There are so many hidden gems in thriftstores. Altering clothes is also a great way to start your sewing journey. And even if you don't find the clothing item or prop you're looking for, maybe you'll find something else that's useful. Like a leather jacket that yo can use to make those leather accesoires!
Don't make a new costume for every event. Make a handful that you love, aand wear those to the ground. It'll save you in money and materials, and you will also experience less stress, concrucnhing to try and finish your cosplay in time. I'm not saying you can never make a new cosplay, just do it less impulsively.
See which parts of your cosplay you can recycle. Maybe you can modefy that one skirt, or paint over the gun you made? See if you can make it work for your next character.
Does everything NEED to be perfect? I know you want to be as accurate as possible. But do you have to reprint that 3D printed sword twice just because it was slightly off? Or do you need to recast that gem in resin 20 times just to get it perfect? No you don't Do you NEED to make a mock-up dress? I know the materials are expensive, and you don't want to waste any, but what are you doing with the mock-up materials after?
Continuing from #3, take a look at your fabrics. The entire textile industry is a mess. It's polluting, and often poorly regulated. And not just the synthethic ones. Even natural fabrics can be bad. Leather tanneries are awful, and cotton is one of the most chemically intensive crops in the world (still both better than synthetic counterparts) Try hemp, linen, or wool instead of cotton.
Find alternatives for your props. They don't have to be EVA foam and plastic. There are many substitutes. Cardboard, paper mache, recycled wood. Hell, even hotglue instead of resin. Or use things you already own. Old water bottles can be a great base for sci-fi gubs for example. Be creative!
Make things work for multiple costumes. An old example that I once used on my instagram: @pretzlcosplay took her Gnar dress and corset, made some new accesories, and poof!: a Cubone cosplay!
Don';t buy a wig for every new cosplay. Ok so this one is common sense I think, and I don't think anyone does this but I had to put it here anyway. That one black wig you own? It;s Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Kirito, Kageyama, Levi Ackerman, Rin Okumura, and on you go. The same goes for most unnaturally colored wigs. Just look up a few youtube tutorials on wigstyling, and that one wig can be a hundred different characters.
Buy secondhand cosplays. Loads of cosplayer sell their old cosplays, sometimes even including the wig. You can look on instagram, usually people have story highlights for things they're selling, but facebook is a great way to start too. They got loads of swap/sell groups for cosplayers. Sometimes there are even event son cosn where you can swap cosplays.
If you're a frequent crafter (whatever the reason) try to buy things in bulk. Not only will this reduce your cost over time and decrease packaging waste, but if you often order materials online, this will also reduce your environmental impact as you'll contribute to fewer emissions that come with shipping.
Buy samples Buying samples is a great way to know for certain whether the material is the right colour, has the right feel, the right texture, etc. without having to do a full buy of the material. Same goes for wigs. Most wigsites have colour rings you can order, giving you a small sample of each available colour.
Keep your scraps Maybe you'll find use for them in a future project. Or maybe you can trade with friends. Save your scraps if you're a big DIYer
14. If you have the money, buy the eco friendly version. Technology has come a long way, and we have great substitues for most things. However, these are often more costly then the old (plastic) version. If you have the extra money to spare, please do buy the eco friendly alternative, like the eco friendly fillament for your 3D printer.

Wear a Dress Day
Wear a Dress Day is celebrated every June 1 and gives women an opportunity to sport their favorite dress. This includes dresses of all sorts, designs, and patterns — all that is important is that it’s a dress you love. Why create a day that is all about dresses, you ask? Well, the fact is, dresses are easy to wear and super comfy, especially in the hot summer weather when you begin to sweat the minute you step out of an air-conditioned space. So use this occasion to dump your jeans and adorn a cute dress that makes you look oh so lovely.
History of Wear a Dress Day
Amongst various interesting days celebrated across the U.S., one fun occasion is Wear a Dress Day. Dedicated to all women — or basically anyone who wants to wear a dress — the day is all about dressing up and having fun! The origins of the day are unclear but what we do know is, its observation started in 2010 and led to many women taking photos of themselves in dresses and posting them on social media with the hashtag #WearADressDay.
The question is, why are dresses so important to the ladies? Well, this is mostly because there is a long history of how dresses evolved over time and not all were the most comfortable. For instance, from the 16th century till the 19th century, dresses were often worn with uncomfortable corsets that made it hard for women to even breathe. While the dresses looked gorgeous, they were also extremely uncomfortable to wear since they were created out of various layers of heavy fabrics. In 1775, the dresses got bigger and fancier, making it tough for women to move around with ease.
It wasn’t until 1860 when the dress fabric became simpler and easier to wear, but the size of dresses only began to decrease in the 1900s. By the 1920s, the hemlines began to reduce and dresses became more enjoyable to wear. Today, women can wear short dresses, loose dresses, tight dresses, or full-length gowns without worrying about rigid social norms — and it’s this empowerment that makes us want to celebrate Wear a Dress Day!

How to Celebrate Wear a Dress Day
Throw a party of your favorite era
Donate some dresses
Wear your best dress!
This means you have endless options, ranging from the ’60s to the funky ’90s. The aim is to use the opportunity to wear one of your favorite dresses in public.
Since everyone loves dresses, use this day to donate some of the dresses you no longer wear to charity.
Pick out your favorite dress from your wardrobe and make a plan with friends so you can wear it out. Whether it's a party dress or a cute skater dress, anything that makes you look and feel good will work.
5 Fun Facts About Dresses

Dresses make a style statement
What you wear affects your psychology
Short dresses and maxis are super easy to wear, they are comfortable, affordable, and make you feel powerful and feminine. Short dresses are also more desirable for ladies residing in countries with a hot climate.
While everyone likes to suit up once in a while, the variety of dress designs available make it easy for you to make a style statement — even on a low budget!
The ‘little black dress,’ for instance, has become an essence of femininity, and women sporting this color often feel more confident and sure of themselves.

If I Could Turn Back Time
Larissa Weems x Fem!Reader
A/N: This fic is cross-posted on Wattpad and Ao3
Chapter 2
“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.”
— Harvey MacKay
I will never get those years back. My teenage years were wasted on shame and self-pity when they should’ve been wasted on late nights with friends and sneaking out to get drunk at parties. But, of course, that wasn’t the case.
Laying in bed I hold the pocket watch in front of my face, watching as it swings pendulously.
Back and forth. Back and forth.
Around and around just as my head spins, trying to wrap my mind around insecurities and intrusive thoughts.
The beeping of my alarm pulls me from the bottomless pit and I reach for my phone to turn it off. Groaning, I pull myself out of bed and squint as the morning sun shines through the blinds.
As I brush my teeth, I walk into the kitchen to be greeted by a loud meow and my orange tabby, Gingie, pawing at his food bowl.
“Hold on,” I say. “You won’t starve, I promise.”
The walk to Jericho High School, where I once again attend, only this time as a teacher, isn’t too long. At most, it’s fifteen minutes away on foot, and my route takes me past the Weathervane.
A bell sounds as I enter the coffee shop, and I’m greeted by the barista. She smiles as I approach her, and she picks up a to-go cup, immediately writing my name down. “I assume you want your usual, Y/N?”
“Yeah, but add an extra shot of espresso,” I responded.
After paying, I stood off to the side, scrolling through social media as I waited for my latte. Living up to the modern day stereotypes, I didn’t look up from my phone as I retrieved my coffee when my name was called.
And, of course, to my luck, it backfired brutally.
I had turned around quickly, realizing I was going to be late, and it was as if the universe was against me as I ran straight into another person.
Gasping, the bag on my shoulder fell, papers scattering onto the floor and coffee spilling on the both of us as the lid popped off. My face was bright red as I rushed to get napkins, not even looking into whoever’s face it was.
“I am so sorry!” I tried to get the excess coffee off the seemingly expensive fabric of her clothes, which only made the matter worse in my mind. How in god’s name could someone on a teacher’s salary afford to replace a designer dress? “Oh, Jesus! This is all my fault! I should’ve been paying attention!”
It had only dawned on me at that moment that my hand had made its way up to her chest. I worked up the courage to look the woman in the face, and, if it was possible my face was now brighter than a tomato. She was almost a foot taller than me. “I’m–um–I am so–um–”
The woman sighed, a hint of a smile on her lips as she peered down at me. “It’s alright,” she said as I handed her a wad of napkins. “It’s not been the best morning anyway, so I was kind of expecting it.”
I groaned. “Oh, god, that makes me feel even worse.”
“No, darling, really,” she chuckled. “It’s alright”
Knowing damn well I couldn’t afford to buy her a new dress with my salary, I try to come up with something quickly. “Please, at least let me pay you dinner cleaning–”
We both stood there in silence. What the fuck did I just say?
“I–um…well…I meant to say…” There couldn’t have been a worse time for me to lose my train of thought. “I was gonna say, ‘let me pay for your dry cleaning’, but I also wanted to say, ‘let me take you out to dinner’, since I definitely won’t be able to pay for a new dress, because that looks ridiculously expensive, and I’m a high school teacher so I don’t have that kind of money, but I can definitely afford to pay for your dry cleaning and take you out for dinner…”
She just stood there as I rambled, her mouth slightly open like she was a fish out of water. Her red lips curled into a smile and something inside my chest fluttered. “Like I said, it’s alright. I couldn’t give a damn about this dress.”
I looked down at the floor, seeing the papers for my lesson plans and graded homework in a puddle of espresso and milk. Dropping my head, I huff. I get on my hands and knees and pick up the soggy papers. When I lift my head, I see she’s in front of me, helping with the mess I caused.
My eyes meet hers, and for a moment, I could’ve sworn I stopped breathing; the entire Atlantic Ocean pooled into her irises. Waves upon waves of blue crashed against specks of gray, sinking even the most resilient of ships.
I cleared my head quickly and shoved the papers in my bag, smiling at her as I stood up. “Thank you for helping me, you didn’t have to do that.”
“It’s nothing,” the woman replied. “Really.”
“Right, well.” I took one of the unused napkins and pulled out a pen from my bag, scribbling down my name and phone number. “Here. Send me a text. Let me know when you’re available for dinner–or if you even wanna go.”
“Y/N?” she asked. When I nodded in response, she smiled back, stowing the napkin in her purse. “It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Larissa.”

The comments for every nice dress or whatever that gets advertised at me on facebook includes somebody shrieking THIS IS SO EXPENSIVE, WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE, I WOULD NEVER BUY THIS IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE!!
Clothes have never been this cheap. In human history. EVER. EVER!
Take a look at old clothing ads that listed prices, even as recently as the 1990's but way further back than that, and find an inflation calculator. Clothes used to be way more expensive. Gunne Sax dresses cost $200-$300 in today's dollars, for instance. Go through scans of Delia*s catalogs from the late 1990's and you can basically double the prices and not be far off from what it would cost in today's dollars. Delia*s wasn't cheap but it also wasn't high-end. It was intended to be within reach of most teenage girls--I bought clothes from them with babysitting money, ffs; making $5 an hour.
My mom (and a lot of other women) learned to sew in the 1970's because it was cheaper than buying off-the-rack. People used to knit their clothes (including socks) because it was cheaper than buying!
The dress I saw someone comment on today, has a full skirt (it was so fluffy!!) and is fully lined and is thoughtfully designed to be flattering on an XXS to a 6X--the ad had models shown in EVERY SIZE in their range and the same dress looked fantastic on all of them. THAT TAKES TIME AND SKILL TO DO. Most companies just scale up, which makes it all look like shit on larger sizes.
And on top of that, those dresses were less than $150. I was actually shocked--Selkie's designs that are similar-ish cost more than that, usually in the $300 range. (I think Selkies have more layers and the sheer fabrics are hemmed, though?)
"I won't pay over $50 for a dress." You'll never own a dress as nice as this one, then; unless you win the secondhand lottery. And all your shit is being made by people who work insane hours and still can't feed their kids.
I'm not claiming I'm perfect on this score; I've bought my share of cheap crap from amazon. And also: I get it!!! I've been poor!! (Hell, I still make less than the median income.) But I also don't act like companies that are actually charging enough to pay their workers are trying to rip me off.
Stop getting angry at designers and companies charging what clothes are actually worth; get mad at your bosses and capitalism ensuring you don't make enough money yourself to afford clothes made by people who also make a living wage.
(Anyway. I need this one. NEED. Maybe after I get back from Spain, lol.)
#also I know some people hate the huge sleeves puffy skirt girly-as-fuck trend#but holy shit I want all of it ALL OF IT ahahaahahahha gIVE IT TO MEEE#my posts

@quickdeaths asked: just gimme all the clothing ones I know you have so many thoughts and i wish to hear them hahaha
All About Culture headcanon questions (Accepting! Everything but the clothing ones now)
I do have quite a few thoughts! This is actually one of the harder questions to answer, as what constitutes as Traditional Novoselic Clothing is not necessarily Sonia's traditional clothing. Princess Privileges, but I'll explain the best I can. I'll also put this under a cut for length.
what color dyes are most commonly used?
Historically, it depended on one's level of affluence. Poorer classes likely could only afford more earthen-colored dyes, or something dark to cover up stains on the few outfits they owned. While making up a garment (dress, shirt, trousers, etc) was often cheap and done within families as most women could sew and mend, fabric and textiles were expensive. If your family did not produce wool or linen (cotton later on), you had to purchase this material or, if you worked in an aristocratic household, fabric was most often gifted to you (particularly if you were a woman) to have made into a dress, blouse, or skirt yourself. Bright colors were impractical, as well as whites and pale colors, due to how much clothing had to be worn and washed, over and over again. And of course, purple was reserved for the upper classes.
And if you were a member of the aristocracy or a high-earning merchant, business owner, etc? It depends on the historical time period, but green is always a favorite. Jewel tones, teal, sage green, mint green, even lime green in some cases when that dye was more readily available and in style. But yes, in the earlier centuries of what's called Modern Novoselic (circa year 1000 onward), the upper classes tended to favor deep jewel tones and metallics until around the 18th Century. With the influx of more parties and balls, and influence from France and Italy, lighter shades were often used, particularly in younger generations pre-marriage, to get them to stand out against the candlelight at evening soirees.
Since then, for men it's commonly traditional shades (unless he wishes to be particularly foppish/a dandy/overly styled, and then the sky's the limit!), and for women it's most often paler shades during spring and summer, jewel tones during fall and winter. Neutrals all year round, for everyone, especially in business attire.
Still: Green, colors that pair with green, and combinations of green with white/silver/gold? This evokes national pride. Novosonians love that. And for modern traditional outfits, those commonly worn for national festivals, tourism, and the like? They tend to go brighter and more eye-catching than what the standard person would wear on a daily basis. Instead, most modern Novosonians taking on traditional dress do it in more of a 'Sunday Best' style: the nicest outfit someone of the middle classes would likely own.
what type of fabric is most commonly used?
For the working class, it was mostly wool and linen for centuries before cotton was introduced, first through trade and then by growing themselves. Most cotton is still imported for cheap, though. And of course, leather for things like shoes, belts, gloves, etc.
For the upper classes/nobility, silk and silk blends were far more common in outerwear, as well as things like stockings and garters (depending on the time period, of course!). People of these classes were able to barter, trade, or simply purchase these imported fabrics outright from various regions in Asia (alongside spices, jewels, tea, etc). Finer-spun wool and linen were used for underthings (barring corsets and stays: these often had decorative front-facing fabrics at this level of affluence) and petticoats (as these needed to be washed more frequently), and a mix of leather and textiles were used for the likes of shoes and gloves. Fur-trimmed items and furs were also not unheard of, though in the past 60 years and the development of ethical solutions for fur, more modern royals opt for these instead (as do the luxury fashion houses, which helps!).
Does my muse enjoy wearing their traditional outfits?
Sonia specifically? Here's the thing: Sonia isn't really allowed to wear the traditional Novosonian outfits! The closest she gets is military dress attire (more frequently in her adult years, and especially as Queen: the monarch is the Supreme Commander of the Novoselic Armed Forces), ceremonial robes and crowns, and then the variety of tiaras, medals, pendants, sashes, etc. dictated by the specific formal occasion at hand. Basically, look at any formal royal dinner covered by the press, particularly those hosted by European royalty.
The actual closest thing Sonia has to the traditional Novosonian outfits? That's her In Utero school uniform, aka. the default green dress with white blouse and red bow she wears throughout the Super Danganronpa 2 game. I'll explain more in one of the answers to the next questions.
Do the traditional garments tend to be heavier or lighter?
It depends on the time of year, but traditional garments are most always in layers and the fabric determines what time of year it is. Heavier wools and more layers? It's freezing out. More linen with lighter cotton or wool overlayers? It's spring or summer in Novoselic (though in some areas, snow is nearly year-round. One of the pros of having the Alps run through your country I guess?).
How many layers does a traditional outfit generally have?
Okay, here we go. I'm going to do this in two ways, mostly focusing on women's dress due to my muse identifying as a woman, and would not be clothed in men's traditional dress (unless she was trying to disguise herself, which is, knowing Sonia, entirely possible. She might want to sneak out for some mischief!).
Women's traditional clothing looks mostly like this:
A pinafore dress and blouse, often with puffed sleeves of some sort, or in lieu of the pinafore there would be a stiffened bodice (with various degrees of embroidery and trims) and a coordinating skirt. Aprons of various lengths are worn, as are white or brightly colored stockings and leather shoes with buckles. Scarves and hats are also traditionally worn, if not ribbons or other hair accessories.
Now, let's compare this to...
Sonia's school dress does have a different shape: she has much more of a bell-shaped (or rather, Lolita!) styled skirt. Note: Sonia and Celestia are some of the few DR ladies who could, or should, be wearing a petticoat or short crinoline with their uniforms (Kirumi too, though longer and less voluminous). Traditionally pleated school uniforms would never need these, unless it was a conscious fashion choice.
However, she's got the pinafore dress, puffed-sleeve blouse, a belt to substitute for an apron, a neck bow to substitute for a shawl, a hair accessory, and in lieu of brightly colored stockings, she's got bright shoes on. There's some differences, sure, but the general vibe and style? Novoselic traditional dress, right here.
As for men, it's likely lederhosen or something similar to these outfits:
The important takeaways would be far more green themes, and the embroidery. Most often in traditional outfits, embroidery was done at home and reflected a specific region of Novoselic. Floral and nature themes are common, and learning how to embroider, particularly if you're a Novosonian woman, is an excellent way to honor your country's heritage. And thus, the immense popularity of giving and receiving small embroidered items, aka. Sonia's vast collection of handkerchiefs.
Also of note: this is one of the reasons why Queen Valentina finds Sonia's 'skills' to be so disappointing. Sonia's lack of creative and artistic talent bleeds over into her attempts at embroidery. Literally, the girl has stuck herself so many times on accident that embroidering a makango, or a rose, or any other national symbol tends to look like a stained blob more than anything else.
Now, with traditional clothing out of the way, I'm going to go into Sonia's take on traditional clothing. Ultimately, it depends on the time period, but Novosonian aristocracy would have been following European trends at the time. And despite how much my brain loves to focus on 18th and early 19th Century attire, I'm going to break down Sonia's canon princess attire for this. Mostly due to the following: it's evocative of a mid-1850s to mid-1860s evening gown, right around when circular cage hoops were invented and replaced many layers of stiffened crinoline skirts, and right before The House of Worth styles took over Europe and changed the cuts of dresses for women (see: dramatic elliptical cages, lobster cage, bustle dress, etc).
Additionally, the mid-19th Century is right around when Novoselic started phasing out of the Harvest Festival for the upper classes and introduced the annual Masquerade Ball. This is mostly due to the Industrial Revolution and having little interest in celebrating farming and harvests, with many Novosonians flocking to the cities to find work instead.
That said, here's Sonia's gown:
This outfit would have been likely comprised as the following, and how she would've worn it both in the mid-19th Century and to the modern, annual masquerade ball if she so chose:
A chemise, silk stockings with silk ribbon garters, a pair of split drawers/bloomers, a corset (front busk, laced and tightened from the back), a cage skirt (possibly leaning into an elliptical cage), at least 2-3 petticoats to hide the cage beneath her dress, a corset cover (to protect her bodice), silk satin overskirt (possibly in multiple layers, the lighter color evocative of her rank and ability to afford such a color without getting it dirty, to be seen in dim lighting, and let's be real: it's pretty close to white, which was the popular bridal color at the time. Thanks, Queen Victoria!), a separate silk bodice that laces up the back (Possibly embroidered or trimmed in lace. Her wide neckline would have probably been wider and even more elaborate as a detachable bertha. The 2015 live action Cinderella film with Lily James has one of these: blue to match the dress and adorned with fabric butterflies), leather or silk slippers, a necklace (or a brooch), earrings, possibly a bracelet, tiara, and likely a pair of silk or lace/net gloves, a handheld fan, and a dance card attached to her wrist.
Because heaven forbid anyone she dances with touches her bare hand (hand holding is even more lewd with skin to skin contact, naturally). How scandalous! Also see: showing ankles and leaving her hair down. Sonia, if attending a ball or wearing a gown like this, would be of age to put her hair up. Leaving her hair fully down would indicate she is still a child/not of age to be presented in society. Beyond a tiara, she might have also had feathers in her hair, particularly if she's unmarried.
The best way to explain all of this is through YouTube getting ready videos. I like this one and this one, though they leave out some of the steps.
I also think Sonia's dress is specifically evocative of Audrey Hepburn's gown in Roman Holiday, which has also inspired other animated princesses. Especially Relena from Gundam Wing and Belle from the animated Disney film Beauty and the Beast.

cheapest laundry near me,
cheapest laundry near me,
Doing laundry shouldn’t break the bank, but finding affordable laundry services can sometimes feel challenging. Here’s a guide to help you locate the most budget-friendly laundromats, laundry pickup services, and wash-and-fold options near you.
1. Look for Local Laundromats with Deals
Many laundromats offer promotions, especially for new customers or during off-peak hours. Search for “laundromats near me” on Google or a map app and check if local places list any discounts. Some laundromats have early bird or late-night discounts when machines are less busy.
2. Compare Prices and Services Online
Websites and apps like Yelp, Google Maps, or local business directories often provide customer reviews and price ranges for laundromats. Look for facilities that offer cost-effective self-service machines. Also, some places have loyalty programs or offer discounts on certain days of the week, which could save you even more in the long run.
3. Check for Student and Senior Discounts
If you’re a student or senior, some laundromats offer reduced rates. It’s worth asking about any special rates at nearby laundromats or checking online listings to see if there are discounts available for certain age groups.
4. Opt for Laundry Pickup and Delivery Deals
Many laundry services now offer pickup and delivery, which can sometimes be cheaper, especially if they provide promotional rates for first-time customers. Look for deals on apps like Rinse, SudShare, or local laundry services, which may give discounts if you’re a new user or order during a certain time of the week.
5. Use Laundry Service Aggregators
Platforms such as LaundroKart, Cleanly, or SudShare let you compare various laundry service providers in your area. These apps often have promo codes and offer package deals, which might make laundry services more affordable than traditional laundromats.
6. Ask About Bulk Pricing
Some laundromats and laundry services offer discounts if you wash in bulk (like more than 20 pounds of laundry). This can be an excellent option for families or roommates who combine their laundry into one large load.
7. Buy or Bring Your Own Supplies
Many laundromats charge extra for detergent and fabric softener. Bringing your own supplies can cut costs. Also, some brands offer eco-friendly laundry pods or sheets that are easy to transport and affordable in the long run.
8. Look for Coin-Operated Laundromats
Coin-operated laundromats usually charge lower fees than digital machines because they require less maintenance. They may not have the latest machines, but they get the job done and keep your costs down.
9. Save on Drying Costs
One trick to reduce your drying expenses is to spin-dry clothes twice, if possible, before moving them to the dryer. Clothes that are less wet require less time in the dryer. You could also bring clothes home to air-dry if you have space, which cuts out dryer costs entirely.
Final Tips for Affordable Laundry
Finding the cheapest laundry service requires a bit of research, but it’s worth it for long-term savings. By exploring local deals, comparing prices, and using discounts, you can keep your clothes clean without spending too much.
This approach should help readers find affordable laundry options nearby, helping them save on laundry costs every week.

I still have shirts I got at about 13 or 14 years old that were expensive for the time. Maybe $40 per shirt I want to say. (That may be what they cost now. The only thing wrong with these shirts are small almost unnoticed holes and one had larger holes in the armpits from me having worn it near daily at one point. I saved that shirt because it's my favorite (I cut the sleeves off and the collar for good measure so it looks intentional) and now it will probably last another 10 years. The quality of my expensive shirts has not gone down. But the shirts I can typically afford? They not only wear out in what feels like a week or a month at best but they feel like shit and are way thinner. But I can't afford to stock up on the good quality expensive shirts. I get a couple of the expensive shirts every time I can and they're still the same. Still the same material and quality. Only difference is that the price is going up. This makes me think that the rich aren't having this problem like the rest of us are. It's the workboot problem all over again (you can't afford the nice boots so you but the cheap ones and have to replace them more often so you spend more money) and it's designed to suck away at our wallets. I'm not even sure sewing your own clothes would solve anything here because fabric is expensive so that's a barrier.
so many articles about Fast Fashion, not enough articles about what the hell is happening to the quality of clothes
Like okay. People own more pieces of clothing nowadays and they wear them a lesser number of times before throwing them out. BUT.
Why do we pretend like this is pure vanity or careless wastefulness, rather than forced by the qualities of the clothes themselves?
The other day, I was going through boxes of old clothes in the basement in search of fabric to practice sewing on. The difference in quality of the fabrics themselves is shocking! The worn-out old jeans from twenty years ago are MUCH thicker and tougher than anything more recent. My old baby clothes are made as sturdy as my work clothes from today.
In the past couple years, I have had entire seams rip out of clothes on the first wash. That's not normal!
Polyester blend shirts that feel cozy and soft when they are new, become scratchy and rough after 20 washes or so. I am trying to avoid polyester, but it gets harder and harder; the other day i couldn't find a single pack of crew socks that was 100% cotton. SOCKS!
Also, pilling is out of control. The newest pants I bought developed pills within a single day of walking around campus with a backpack.
These companies are trying to frog-boil us but touching clothes from twenty years ago, the useless crap of today would stick out like a sore thumb...
#anyway#death to capitalism#if you want the brand of shirts i buy its mountain shirts but they're super expensive. like i think 50 usd per shirt or more#i have like 7 at this point cause i gained weight (old ones didn't fit if not stretched)/stupidly threw out ones that had minor holes#i think i threw out the ones i did cause my mom told me to and she thought we'd just get new ones but the price had gone up so we never did#once i have a job again I'm going to save up to buy like 20 of them so i can actually have a good rotation

Many people are hesitant to buy a faux fur coat this winter because they think it will be too warm and uncomfortable. However, faux fur coats are actually very warm and comfortable to wear. In fact, many people find them to be much more comfortable than traditional winter coats made of wool. First of all, faux fur coats are not as heavy as traditional coats made of wool. This means that you will not feel as cold wearing one. Furthermore, faux fur is a very soft fabric, which makes it very comfortable to wear. Finally, most faux fur coats have a hoodie style design, which makes them perfect for keeping your head warm when the weather changes quickly.

I’m gonna fight anyone who says Karl’s hoodie is too expensive
I made one myself and spent $50 getting all the dye and the base for it not to mention it took a week to make and even if his are factory made having that many different colors is fuckin difficult and expensive and you have to pay the people making and shipping them enough
#Karl jacobs#same reason unus annus hoodies were expensive#like fucker I took fashion classes for a few years and have made my own clothes for a show#this shit he’s selling is expensive for a reason#if you can’t afford it that doesn’t make it too expensive it just means you specifically don’t have the money#and streamer merch is not a necessity#and yea it’s gonna cost more if they’re gonna pay their workers enough#plus if you want one but won’t have enough money in time while it’s time consuming you can save to make your own#you don’t even have to make your own hoodie you can take apart a preexisting one#and dye the individual panels of fabric
