Feeling nostalgic with this song. I remembered listening this through my auntie's phone and even a radio on my MP3 player❤️❤️.
It's a crossover between an Arabic traditional music and Indonesian pop rock which makes it 10x perfect (and sexier) plus the music video where the singer dresses as an Arabic princess while dancing.
I know this song's title a little naughty but who cares, many Indonesians loved it including me😍😍💖💖.

The Chase - a MirSan fantasy AU
In 2019, I started a fantasy collection, with the idea of the Inuyasha cast as various mythical and fantastical creatures. I wanted to write a satyr!Miroku for AGES, and finally, I humbly present it.
Title: "The Chase" Posted in: "Fantasia" on ff.net and AO3 Words: 1,589 Rated: T, for suggestive language
Enjoy! ❤
~*~*~*~
Apollo’s chariot roared past as he brought the sun up at dawn, shining down on Olympus and the world below. It was a pleasant and boisterous start of the day, with the gods already going about their divine duties, and the creatures inhabiting their realm making preparations in great merriment. For tonight was to be Midsummer’s Eve, one of the loudest and most rambunctious parties of the year.
All the faerie collected honey and fruit to create scrumptious dishes, and the dryads were busy coaxing the trees to uproot themselves temporarily to make extra room in the valley for all the gods and magical creatures attending tonight’s celebration. The centaurs made sure security was tight and were instructed to forbid any mortals or demonic creatures from entering. (Naturally, this included Hades and his Underworld followers, which was always a source of tension around this time of year.)
The satyrs were in charge of the music, but one of them was distracted from his job. Instead of practicing with his fellows, he was busy admiring the naiads sunbathing at the bottom of the valley where their river flowed.
Or rather, admiring one naiad in particular.
Her gorgeous black hair flowed down her back like a luscious waterfall, her violet eyes brilliant and deep, her absolutely scrumptious-looking backside, shining in the watery sunlight, like a delectable fruit waiting to be plucked—
“Miroku! Keep your eyes upon your instrument, and away from pretty ladies!”
The satyr jolted at the sound of the Elder’s scolding voice, turned reluctantly around, and sheepishly returned to plucking his lyre, but his mind remained preoccupied with rather naughty thoughts.
Naiads and dryads were the source of many a satyr’s affection. It was not uncommon for unions to form, but it was difficult to reach, so to speak. For all nymphs, from the water naiads to the oak dryads, adored the chase. And were nigh on impossible to catch, unless they chose to be.
Satyrs, especially Miroku, could not resist such delicious temptation.
Miroku had a bit of a reputation for the highest number of successful chases, though the number was still far too low for his liking. But his success had less to do with swiftness of foot, and more with silver of tongue. His sweet words melted the hardest of bark around many a dryad’s heart, and thus he reaped the sweetest nectar.
But none of his previous conquests mattered now. Not when one naiad, for the past century, had eluded him thus far.
The beautiful and strong Sango had many suitors, both godly and earthbound. It was said that even Zeus tried to conquer her, but was rejected so thoroughly, he actually went sulking back to his wife, Hera (of all people and gods!), instead of finding another consort.
Unlike most of her kind, Sango was not above using violence when necessary. Truth be told, it was her strength that stole the heart of the lecherous satyr who pined over her now over his lyre.
~~~
Over a hundred years ago, Miroku had been chasing several giggling dryads when he first met Sango. Running through the forest, he leaped through bushes and was just inches away from his latest conquest, when out of his peripheral vision, he saw a glistening figure under a waterfall.
He skipped to a halt and gaped at the glorious sight.
The ethereal maiden of the river had her back to him, which did not diminish her beauty in the slightest. On the contrary, it only emphasized a certain ... asset of her body that burned itself into Miroku’s mind.
His old consorts forgotten, Miroku recklessly burst from hiding, causing her to shriek in alarm, spinning around and clasping her arms about her chest.
“Most gracious and gorgeous lady, I beseech thee,” he said, kneeling one goat leg down, and throwing his arms out in surrender, “please allow this lowly satyr to bask in thy divinity and, by perchance, if I happen to touch thine most succulent rump—”
Next thing he knew, a wave of icy water came cascading down on his head. Shivering and spluttering, he found himself on his back with a forearm pressing against his throat.
The naiad, naked, her wet hair draping over Miroku’s horns, was pinning the shocked satyr into the earthen bank of the river.
“Do not dare to imagine that you can defile me, wretched satyr!” her voice slammed onto him like ocean waves crashing onto rocks. “I have sent gods crawling back with their tails between their legs, I have drowned countless mortals who laid their lecherous eyes upon me. I am not like my foolish cousins of the forest. I am Sango, the naiad who guards this river. Do not cross my path again, or you shall drown on land and become disemboweled and never chase your precious dryads again.”
She released him just as suddenly, and he laid back, gasping for breath as she vanished into the water.
Unfortunately, her threat did the exact opposite of her intention.
Miroku was hopelessly, ravenously in love with the violent, beautiful naiad who threatened his life.
~~~
A century or so of chasing the same maiden did nothing to sate his desire. Unlike his peers, who moved on swiftly to their next target if one proved too difficult, Miroku only grew obsessed. Even now, plucking halfheartedly at his lyre’s strings, he barely heard the musical notes, only longed to hear her voice, to feel the weight of her wrath pressing down on him….
“You have a death wish,” his friends told him whenever he would lament about the missing piece inside him. It did not matter what they thought: Sango was the most exquisite creature in all of Olympus, and Miroku would stop at nothing until she acknowledged his love.
Nymphs disappear into the elements when they wish to vanish. Dryads and other tree nymphs melt into the forest, the trees, the moss, the grass, the roots. Naiads become one with the water. To catch a naiad is to catch a cloud.
In all of Miroku’s years, he had slept with a few naiads, and only by sheer charm. But few maidens look favorably upon those who encroach on their bathing rituals, hence why his first impression with Sango was so disastrous. Had she been a Huntress of Artemis, it would have meant his death.
But naiads did not need to kill to prove a point. While Sango was unique with her aggressive tactics, most of the time, she simply vanished like the rest of her sisters and cousins when Miroku tried approaching her. He knew it was fruitless, but the calling of her sweet rump was too much to bear. He simply had to have her! But not until she finally allowed him.
Satyrs chase, cajole, and seduce, but never, ever force. And even if one was low enough to stoop to such disgusting degrees, they would never succeed: it was impossible to trap a nymph. Trick one, perhaps, surprise, and chase, but it did not matter whether they were grasped by a tight grip or chains; they’d simply become one with the earth and return to the home out of sight.
Sango, being a naiad, would not even be trapped on land. She would melt into a puddle, and her watery essence would sink into the soil before flowing back into her beloved river.
Miroku knew all of this. But still his heart yearned for her touch, threatening or affectionate.
~~~
The sun was beginning to set. The Festival of Midsummer’s Eve was here.
Many were starting to become tipsy, delighting in the music provided by the satyrs and dancing of the dryads, the sizzling of meat and the pouring of wine, the clanging of tournament players, the twanging of archers competing, there was a myriad of senses overwhelming the jovial atmosphere.
Miroku, playing his lyre as he wandered aimlessly, looked around, rather bored, until his eyes landed on an odd, but pleasant sight.
Sango was not keeping her distance, but was feeding bits of pork to a small cat. She was smiling, a soft, gentle smile, very unlike her cold, violent attitude towards Miroku and other unwanted guests, and cooing gently at the furry creature.
And as it so happened, she let her guard down. Her beautiful body was draped in a misty robe that left little to the imagination, and her delicious backside beckoned for Miroku to reach out to touch—-
Sango gasped. Miroku froze.
Their eyes locked.
For the first time in over a hundred years, he was touching her. For the first time ever, his hand made contact with the gorgeous cheeks that were not adorning her beautiful face.
Satyr and naiad stared at one another. Then, with a growl, Sango stood up and slapped Miroku hard across the face.
Miroku staggered backwards, stunned, but still reeling at his success. Then, he frowned in confusion. Why didn’t she simply turn into water? Or better yet, why didn’t she pummel him into the ground and threaten to drown him?
“Keep your hands to yourself, you filthy pervert!” she was shouting now, and then scooped up the cat (which was inexplicably transforming into a small kelpie), and darted away into the trees toward the sanctity of her beloved river.
Then, she turned at the end, and very slowly smiled. A coy, small smile that was not lost on Miroku, before disappearing.
Heart thumping, Miroku kicked his heels, abandoned his lyre, and flew down the hill after his naiad.
The chase had finally, truly begun.
masterlist
Three hours. Endless outfit changes. Barely an hour for lunch.
Jeon Somi had done photo shoots before, both as part of a group and as a soloist, for commercials and for album covers, but she had never had the focus be on her just like this. Her beautiful face was going to be on the cover of a magazine for the very first time for the entire country to see.
It took countless people to make a magazine shoot run smoothly. Stylists, photographers, directors, makeup artists, interns, and a plethora of untold staff members whose titles were unbeknownst to you.
Somi’s first magazine shoot was exciting. If she was nervous, she hid it well, radiating confidence behind the camera as hundreds of flashes went off every second.
You had lost track of how many times you saw Somi disappearing from the set into her personal dressing room, reemerging in an outfit that either tantalized or confused you. Each ensemble brought out several emotions and at least one change that left you scratching your head.
Fashion never made sense.
There wasn’t a moment behind the cameras that Somi wasn’t swarmed by staff - fixing her hair, touching up makeup, and preparing her for the next set of blinding lights. Somi basked in it all, she loved the attention and loved every moment of being in the spotlight.
You weren’t hired by anyone, yet had one of the most important jobs in the building.
Your job was just to be there. You were a familiar face to the gorgeous young model, keeping the couch warm in the first-story studio where you could be seen at all times when Somi felt a pit in her stomach from being overwhelmed.
One look into your eyes across the distance brought a bright smile to Somi’s lipstick painted lips, one that melted you like a hot summer’s day.
Another outfit change. One more shade of lipstick applied to her lips, her cheeks now a shade of pink instead of red. The fumes of hairspray lingered in the air as her dark big brim hat was swapped out by a simple white ball cap and blue sunglasses.
Truth be told, Somi could make any outfit look good. Whether it be tall high heels that almost made her trip, short skirts that showed off her amazing legs, or puffy coats that she looked adorable in, anything and everything looked great on Somi. You’re pretty sure she could make an astronaut’s spacesuit look sexy.
Somi loved dressing up, wearing expensive clothes and outfits she only dreamed about, each time she was presented with something new feeling giddier than a kid in a candy store.
This outfit you particularly liked on Somi, a rather long green dress that almost touched the ground, perfect for summertime. At first glimpse it seemed to cover her up, the sacrifice worth it as it did a terrific job of hugging her body nicely, leaving her shoulders bare and just a tease of her exposed back.
The best part of her fancy dress was how good her tits looked in it. Her wide hips were plainly visible, curves everywhere and outlining her delicious backside, the perfect woman.
Four hours in, Somi's energy level was just as high as at the start. Perhaps it was your company, or the high of her first solo photo shoot that kept her spirits lifted, filling her tank to get her through the rest of the day.
Bright lights went off again as Somi rotated through a myriad of poses, from sensual, to serious, to downright goofy, conveying a multitude of expressions that seemed to please the director.
Somi was a natural, the camera was in love with her and the feeling was mutual. You couldn’t hear her cute voice over the constant shutter sounds of the camera drowning out her playful laughter, but you knew she was having the time of her life.
Sitting there for hours at a time might have been dull as a spectator, but not so much as you loved watching Somi in different outfits and different styles of makeup. She stepped back into the dazzling lights appearing as an almost completely different person.
The brightly lit set became flooded with staff again. Somi was handed a bottle of water to her left, while on her right someone wiped her brow carefully with a white towel, heading out of view as if that were their only job.
“Thirty minute break!”
An echoing voice from the director rattled the walls as a much needed break was called. Somi was filled to the brim with unlimited energy as she headed to catering and you followed in her footsteps.
The catering table was surrounded in no time flat, trays of pastries and sweets spread out, an assortment of fruits and cheeses, sandwiches and skewered meats all made up a fantastic spread.
“Oh my god, I’m starving,” Somi said as she picked up a plate, stuffing it as high as she could, not even bothering to take a seat as she stuffed her face, forgoing the image she was portraying as a model as soon as she took her first bite.
“What do you think so far?” Somi asked as she found you, mumbling her words as she talked with her mouth full as she approached your position.
“You must be bored out of your mind.”
You shook your head and smiled. “I don’t mind. You look cute wearing all these outfits.”
“Which one was your favorite?” she asked, practically inhaling a bite of strawberry cheesecake.
“I liked the pink dress. And the white top with the jeans. This dress looks really nice on you too,” you said, trying your best not to stare at her chest while dozens of eyes were on you.
“I like it too. It’s light and comfortable and I can move around in it freely. Some of those other dresses I could barely walk in,” she said, annoyed.
Somi waited for a handful of staff members to pass by, exchanging polite bows and smiling as they headed off with equally filled plates.
“I want you to take it off me,” she whispered, flashing a mischievous smile, one that had you seen before.
“You want me to help you change?”
Somi shook her head cutely, keeping her lips pressed close enough to your ear that you could feel her hot breath nuzzling your earlobe.
“I want you to fuck me in this dress, daddy.”
Thankfully nobody was in earshot.
“It’s going to be several more hours before I’m finished shooting. There’s a spare dressing room in the back that nobody is using...” she playfully said, her expression the same as when she tried to convince you her vibrator was a neck massager.
“You’re bad, Somi,” you said, her gaze agreeing with you as you stared into each other’s eyes as if you were wondering what you were about to get into.
You took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “Lead the way. I’ll stay a few steps behind you.”
Somi nodded gleefully, putting her half finished food down on the nearest table.
“I’ll uh, be back. I think something I ate didn’t agree with me,” she announced, letting the staff know she wasn’t going to be available for the time being.
If your calculations were correct the break was called about ten minutes ago, leaving you with twenty minutes left, yet also Somi leaving herself an excuse if extra time was needed.
But twenty minutes was more than enough time for what you wanted to do to her.
You carefully followed Somi, taking care to leave additional space in trailing her as you weaved through makeup tables and desks full of equipment, disappearing behind the set as your heart raced at what was about to happen.
“Come on,” she said, waving you down a long dark corridor and looking behind her as she took purposeful steps. Shortly after, she opened a door and stepped inside, ushering you in as the two of you looked around, making sure the coast was clear before entering.
Somi entered first, locking the door behind you as her lips smirked. She placed her hat and sunglasses on a nearby countertop, ruffling her hair messily.
“You’re so naughty, Somi.”
“Am I? What are you going to do with me?” she asked, putting her arms behind her back.
Stepping closer, you moved her hair out of her neck, planting your lips on her soft skin and sucked for several seconds, careful not to leave a mark. You took each of her dress straps in your fingertips, playing with them as you looked deeply into her eyes.
She stared back as if to say do it as you pulled the top of her dress down to her waist in one swift movement, exposing her full supple breasts as they bounced freely. You kissed up her stomach, marking her soft skin with your mouth until you reached her large heavy breasts, practically drooling all over her chest.
It was regretful that you couldn’t spend the entire hour worshipping her perfect tits, lips closing around a sensitive nipple that had already hardened as you latched on, sucking gently while you squeezed her free breast.
“F-fuck, daddy,” Somi moaned, as you took your time in sucking her tits, enjoying the sounds of satisfaction she released as your lips wrapped around each of her nipples, covering them in your saliva.
You loved Somi’s huge breasts as much as you loved breathing, the threat of a deadline hovering over her almost didn’t deter as you devoured her breasts.
Your pants tightened as you alternated breasts, slurping loudly and slicking up her stiff pink nipples with your tongue, leaving them swollen and doused in drool as you gave equal attention.
“I wish I could suck these all day,” you said, giving a disappointed look as you kept your focus on her beautiful tits, squeezing and kneading them, never wanting to leave your hands from them.
“I want you to do just more than suck them, daddy,” Somi said, moaning at your touch. You simply couldn’t get enough of her delicious tits, biting her swollen nipples as she whined and threw her head back.
Somi’s attention shifted to the bulge in your pants, and without another word she lowered to her knees and began to undo your pants. Her needy hands cupped your crotch, giving a firm squeeze.
She looked up for a second before she hooked her fingers into the waistband of your thin boxers, yanking them down with power and unleashing your stiff erection as her eyes widened, her lips smiling hungrily.
Her gaze never broke as she rubbed your leaking tip on her stiff nipples, spreading precum on and using your shaft to slap her large breasts with your cock. Somi loved getting your hungry shaft ready for what she was about to do, but no amount of work would ever truly prepare you for what was next.
Somi opened her mouth without a word, spitting on your shaft several times and stroked your cock furiously, lubricating you nicely with her own saliva. She took control of your shaft, placing it in the comfort of her pillowy soft breasts, trapping it as you moaned at the warmth enveloping your hard shaft.
Her chest began moving slowly, massaging your throbbing shaft and causing a torrent of pleasure as she created orgasmic friction, causing your shaft to twitch. Your cock had no chance to escape, surrounded by flesh that wrapped around it, causing your breath to be taken away as several sensations flooded your body.
Somi had the biggest grin on her face as she squeezed her tits around your cock firmly, using her hands to cup them and make sure you weren’t going anywhere besides her abundant cleavage.
“How does it feel daddy? You love fucking my big tits, don’t you?” she pointlessly asked, picking up the pace just enough to drive you wild with intoxicating pleasure. Your eyes were glued to her huge tits, watching your cock disappearing, every inch of throbbing flesh being swallowed up by her lubricated cleavage.
“Fuck yes, baby. It feels so damn good,” you replied, matching her rhythm and helping pump your shaft in between her tits, so much warm flesh hugging you tight that never wanted to let you go.
You couldn’t help but moan freely at the intense pleasure. You loved the way your leaking cock felt snuggled in between her cleavage, you wanted it to stay there forever. Her breasts felt so soft, softer than silk as you thrusted endlessly, savoring every moment of ecstasy.
Somi loved the feeling of your hard cock trapped between her sizable tits just as much as you did, trying to lick the sensitive head of your cock when it showed itself again, adding additional spikes of pleasure each time she succeeded.
You were more than content to keep this up, keep the incredible pleasure going until you couldn’t take anymore, but things were just getting started.
“Daddy…” Somi whined, moving her breasts up and down as you thrusted in her deep suffocating cleavage.
“What is it, baby?”
“I want to suck your cock. I’m still hungry,” she said, anxiously waiting for permission.
“So suck my cock.”
Somi gave an ear to ear grin as you pumped yourself in between her chest a handful more times as she slowly let your cock slip out of her tits, rubbing it between her wet cleavage. Her delicate small hand wrapped around your shaft, throbbing at her touch as she stroked your cock up and down gently from base to tip.
"You're so hard, daddy,” Somi hummed, pumping your shaft and squeezing it tighter as you leaked over her slender fingers, giving your shaft a single solitary lick from base to tip, proudly tasting your precum.
“So yummy,” she said, giving repeated licks of your cock, teasing the sensitive underside of your shaft, causing more fluids to leak out of your slit.
You would have loved Somi to spend more time teasing your cock, but time was of the essence here. She planted a soft wet kiss on your swollen tip, followed by another, kissing up and down your throbbing shaft and leaving her lips everywhere she could.
“This is much better than our catering,” Somi giggled, her voice full of desire and need, her wet tongue roaming every inch of your shaft. She pressed her lips on your flesh for one more deep kiss, causing a loud smacking sound to escape.
Her beautiful lips parted as the head of your cock disappeared inside her mouth, Somi sucking ever so softly on your tip and nothing more, causing you to groan softly at the intense sudden pleasure.
“Fuck, baby…”
Nothing ever matched the way Somi sucked your cock. Her small soft lips wrapped tightly around your cock, staring intently at you as her cheeks hollowed, applying the perfect amount of suction. Her mouth felt incredible, warm and wet in all the right ways. She took you deeper into her mouth, bobbing her head up and down in a short rhythm and as she held her gaze.
“Oh fuck, that feels so good,” you moaned, scrambling for something to anchor yourself to. Thankfully you were inches away from the nearest countertop, finding the edge and gripping it tightly as Somi pleasured your cock expertly.
“I love sucking your cock so much, daddy,” Somi said as she lowered her head, nudging her nose against the base of your cock as she gave a few teasing licks on your tender balls.
“I love the way I can feel it throbbing inside my mouth. I love the way it tastes, it makes me so fucking wet, daddy.”
Somi’s filthy words aroused you even more as she dove her mouth onto your sensitive balls, tenderly sucking on them individually with just as much hunger. She kept a tight grip on your cock, giving slow strokes that accentuated your pleasure until your balls were doused in her warm saliva.
The combination of pleasure made you groan endlessly as she withdrew her lips from your balls after a few loud slurps, carefully fondling them.
“They feel so full. Is all this cum for me, daddy?” she asked, returning her focus to pleasuring your shaft, spitting on it several times and stroking it.
“Every last drop. They’re ready to be drained, baby.”
“I can’t wait, I want a nice big load inside me, daddy.”
Somi gave an approving smile, taking you back in the comfort of her wet mouth and sucking you off loud and wetly, lips almost to the very base of your shaft and leaving a glistening trail of saliva that followed.
Given the circumstances Somi wasn’t able to take her time with much regret. In a matter of moments she was furiously bobbing her head and taking every inch, letting out a shallow gag with every few strokes. She never quite conquered her gag reflex but didn’t seem bothered, she was just happy with every second her throat was filled.
Somi poured all her energy into giving you such a mind-numbing blowjob, moving her lips from tip to base, spilling saliva out of her mouth, covering your shaft in it. Her lips rested at the end of your shaft as her cute nose pressed against your stomach, smiling with a mouth full of a cock.
She came up for air, saliva dripping down her chin that she didn’t bother to wipe, her expression lust-filled.
“Fuck my face if you want,” she invited, taking your shaft and smacking herself in the face with it, rubbing it on her cheeks and lustfully grinning.
“I’d hate to ruin your makeup,” you replied, the one and only time you had that concern. Somi’s expression was full of disappointment, her smile fading and forming a pout.
“That’s the point,” she said, matter-of-factly. “My makeup artist can fix it later. She gets paid too fucking much anyways.”
Well, that settled that. Somi went back to slobbering on your cock as you placed your hands on both sides of her head, running your fingers through strands of hair and started thrusting inside her pretty mouth.
Consequences be damned, you were going to fulfill Somi’s wishes and desires, thrusting your hips back and forth and sliding every inch of your shaft down her tight warm throat.
Satisfied grunts and moans escaped your lips as you used Somi’s mouth for your pleasure, gagging her with your length as you struck the back of her throat to the point of tears from your forceful use, only encouraging you to give harsher thrusts.
“If only everyone knew what I was doing to you,” you said as Somi kept her mouth wide open for you as you furiously fucked her gorgeous face, slapping your full balls against her chin as she held onto your thighs and slurped hungrily.
“I bet that director had no idea what a cock-hungry little slut he hired did he?” you said, using Somi’s mouth as your personal toy, the constant sounds of gags and erotic slurps filling the small room as your pleasure sky-rocketed.
“Or your stylist unnie, she has no idea her cute innocent model loves choking on cock does she?”
Somi hummed around your cock in satisfaction, the vibration spiking your pleasure as you forced your cock down her throat, streaks of mascara starting to run and drip down her face.
Her makeup artist would certainly have her work cut out for her.
That wasn’t enough for you as you thrusted harder down her throat, slamming every inch nonstop without mercy, drool spilling out of her mouth and dripping onto her beautiful exposed tits as she choked and gagged on your needy cock.
“Take it all, baby,” you growled, holding the back of her head firmly against your crotch, not
caring if she could breathe or not. You desperately wanted to fill her messy warm mouth with cum, coating the back of her throat with it, but that dress looked so fucking sexy on her and you had other plans.
Instead, you savored the intoxicating warmth of her mouth for a few more thrusts, slowly withdrawing your drool-covered shaft as several lines of messy wet spit ejected from her lips, connecting to your swollen tip.
Somi gasped for air, rubbing her drool-covered face all over your wet shaft as she got the treatment she deserved, gargling the leftover saliva and spitting it onto your already drenched shaft.
You smirked at what you saw, once perfectly brushed hair was disheveled and out of place. Her eyes were still filled with tears, whatever leftover mascara she had staining her cheeks, drool glistening on her chin and her chest, an absolutely beautiful mess.
If only her staff could see her like this.
“Was I a good little slut, daddy?”
You nodded proudly and grabbed her dainty wrists and gently helped her to her feet, sharing intense eye contact as you kept the anticipation in the air high.
“I want to fucking ruin you,” you said, squeezing her breasts again, the drool coated on them making them glistening in the lights.
“Do it, please. Fuck me like the whore I am, daddy,” Somi begged, flashing the deepest set of fuck me eyes you had ever seen. You had gotten this far without getting caught, there was no reason to stop.
The dressing room was small with just two countertops, mirrors resting on top of each one waist high, used beauty products still scattered on both surfaces.
There weren’t that many options, no chairs in sight and the floor looked dirty and unkempt as it most likely hadn’t been touched in months if not longer. The counters provided ample space, but not enough for what you needed.
Somi looked at her designer watch she still had kept left on, and you saw you had ten minutes left before they would be looking for her. Plenty of time.
“How do you want it, baby?” you asked as you hiked her green dress up, surprised to see she had on a dark pair of blue panties for once.
“I don’t care, daddy, as long as you’re rough with me,” she said, biting her lip. You couldn’t help but smirk, roaming her tight body with her hands as you gripped her wide hips, harshly spinning her around as she gasped in delight.
“P-please, daddy. I need you. I need to be fucked so bad,” she pleaded, her eyes wide and bright. You kissed her bare shoulders, planting your lips behind her neck and whispered into her ear.
“I want you to watch me ravaging your pretty little cunt, baby.”
Somi dripped between her thighs and her muscles tensed up as you slid her skimpy thong to the side, exposing her gorgeous pussy to you, pink flesh dripping with arousal.
“O-of course, daddy,” Somi said, bending over the makeup countertop, sticking her plump round ass out and placing her palms flat on the surface, ready and willing to be taken right there.
Had there not been time restraints placed, you would have loved to make her beg and tease her pussy until she was as needy as could be, but unfortunately that wasn’t an option right now.
You spread her long legs, grabbing your throbbing shaft and rubbing her aching sensitive clit, pressing it against Somi’s hot wet flesh as she looked back, eyes full of desire.
“Fuck me, daddy. Fuck me like a whore.”
You didn’t hesitate for a second and pushed yourself in deep, her warmth suffocating you as you sank inside every inch of hot flesh, her cunt clenching hard as she moaned loudly. You didn’t waste time, thrusting immediately without any build-up, harshly gripping her hips as you began fucking her tight body from behind.
“Oh my god, daddy,” Somi moaned, her erotic expression visible in the mirror. Your rhythm was frantic from the very start, pistoning your hips and smacking them against her beautiful ass, causing her cheeks to ripple with every stroke.
“Such a tight little whore aren’t you? You like your pretty pussy stretched like this, baby?”
“Y-yes, daddy! You’re so fucking big, pound me daddy, pound me with your big fucking cock.”
“I’d fucking love to,” you replied, grabbing a rough handful of hair and wrapping your fingers around it, forming a ponytail and yanking back hard on it, tugging her head back. Her pussy clenched as she looked directly into the mirror, her eyes barely able to keep open as her mouth let out nothing but needy moans.
“Watch yourself, baby. Watch what I’m going to do to my pretty little cumslut.”
“Y-yes, daddy. R-ruin my pussy, please. Fuck my tight little hole until you blow your load in it!”
Somi’s filthy mouth only served to bring out your carnal desires, increasing your pace rapidly as you slammed her body against the counter, causing her back to arch perfectly as she screamed in delight. You really hoped the dressing room was far enough away from the rest of the staff to not be heard, but at this point you didn’t give a shit if they were listening right outside the door.
“F-fuck me harder daddy, p-please fuck me like the naughty whore I am!”
Your strong grip tightened on her hips, firmly pressing both thumbs into her toned back hard enough that you’re pretty sure was going to leave a bruising mark, one of the myriad of things Somi was going to have to figure out how to explain.
“Treat me like your pretty little fucktoy and break me!”
You watched intently in the mirror in front of you as Somi’s expressive features grew more contorted by the second, her lips only able to form breathless whiny moans and several strings of profanity.
Her pussy tightened to the point of almost causing pain, your shaft being lubricated thoroughly by her abundant slick that dripped down her thighs as you gave it your all, watching her breasts bouncing in the mirror in a way that hypnotized you into a trance.
“Choke me, daddy. Please, fucking choke your whore,” Somi said, as you seemed to be taken aback by every new sentence that left her lips.
You didn’t know what had gotten into her, but you didn’t have time to care as you dropped the bundle of hair you had, bringing the same hand to the front of her body, fondling one of her breasts before finding her warm, soft neck and wrapping your fingers around her throat and giving a gentle squeeze.
“More,” she demanded, and placed her small hand on the back of your own, increasing the pressure as she felt more airflow being restricted, thriving off the feeling she felt.
Somi’s dripping hot pussy pulsated wildly as you pumped into her, keeping a hand on her delicate throat as you looked at the sight in the mirror, something you’d never forget. Her chosen dress barely still on, mascara stains still visible underneath her eyes, her breasts bouncing deliciously with every rock of your hips as you choked her.
Somi kept her eyes focused straight ahead and loved every second of it.
It was hard to remember where you were, that this was still a designated break for Somi and that she would still have to return to work in a few short moments. Yet, you continued to pound into her tight cunt, giving such powerful hard thrusts she was liable to forget her own name.
“God, you’re so fucking deep inside my tight little pussy. Don’t stop fucking me, daddy, use me until you’re done with me!” Somi said, her words becoming an unrecognizable slur that all ran together.
Her warm wet walls grew wetter the harder you drilled her as the room became an orchestra of pleasure - the wet squelch of her pussy, harsh sounds of flesh smacking against flesh, and the constant rising volume of her loud needy moans and gasps, every second that went by without a knock on the door caused a sense of relief.
That satisfying smack of flesh grew louder and louder as you released your grip on her throat. earning a whimpering moan. Your hands weren’t kept idle as you grabbed Somi’s arms and pulled them back, gripping her wrists as her back arched even more, hammering into her pussy with as much energy as you could exert.
“Oh f-fuck, daddy! D-don’t stop, don’t stop fucking your slutty little whore!” Somi said, her clouded eyes barely able to watch herself in the mirror as you saw her vacant stare. You used her slender arms as handles to fuck her senseless, feeling her gripping pussy squeezing the life out of your cock as it pulsated wildly as the stale air in the small tight room grew hotter.
“I’m going t-to cum, daddy! Oh fuck, fuck, fuck, daddy-”
Somi didn’t even have time to finish her sentence, her body already trembling, her held back arms shaking as her pussy tightened even more. Her hips bucked, toes curling into her expensive heels as she shrieked, juices flooding out of her cunt as she came the hardest she had in some time.
You didn’t let up, not that she would have wanted you to as you fucked her through her intense orgasm, pounding away and maintaining the same breakneck pace, harsh stroke after harsh stroke into her heat.
Somi's constantly clenching pussy sent tingles up your spine, and you weren't that far off from your own release if the aching tightness in your balls was anything to go by.
"I'm gonna fucking fill your needy cunt with cum, baby," you hissed, not asking for permission, hooking her arms and bringing her body upright until her back was pressing against your chest, making sure she wasn't going anywhere.
"P-please cum inside me, daddy. Cum inside your filthy little whore! Please, daddy, dump your huge thick load inside my slutty wet pussy, please!"
You loved using Somi like this, her pussy begging for cum as you railed her without mercy, the use of her arms taken from her and nothing to hold on to and at your mercy, taking every thrust into her body and pleading for more. You watched her lustful expression in the mirror as her breasts never stopped bouncing, chasing that sweet release you both desperately wanted.
It wouldn't be much longer now, your hips smacking harshly against her ass as her cunt was fucked so hard she would definitely have trouble not only walking out of her but for the next few days. Savoring every thrust into Somi’s tight warm body, you never let up, keeping the pace as fast your limbs allowed you to move until you finally were pushed over the edge.
“I’m fucking cumming!”
It took less than a handful of thrusts as you buried yourself in Somi’s wet warmth, groaning loudly as you spilled your seed deep into her cunt, throbbing with each shot of hot cum that you emptied into her inviting body, filling her to the absolute brim.
You used the last remaining energy in your body, hips tiredly working until you had no more to deposit in her. Thoroughly drained you never stopped thrusting, trying to fuck your hot deep as it possibly could go, spilling every drop into her womb.
Your moments slowed down little by little until they halted completely as you released her arms as she collapsed against the counter, both of you spent, filled with fatigue and gasping for air, an equally exhausted mess of bodies.
You rested inside her for one final moment, wanting to savor her smothering warmth for as long as possible as you gave her ass a quick smack and slowly pulled out, a flowing stream of thick semen dripping out of her roughly used pussy, staining her beautiful thighs.
“H-holy shit, d-daddy, you fucked me so well,” she said, her words trembling as you slid her thong back in place and pulled her dress down as she turned around to face you.”
“You asked me to.”
“I’m going to be so sore,” Somi smiled as she leaned in and kissed your lips, her bare breasts pressing against your chest.
Your breathing resumed gradually as you wiped the sweat off your brow. You wanted to say something but were rudely interrupted by a voice from the intercom.
“Jeon Somi to the set please!”
The two of you frowned as Somi took one more step, lips locking on to yours deeply, gasping for air as they withdrew.
“You really made me a mess, daddy,” she said proudly, as she pulled her top back up, trying to fix her hair as best as she could.
“I better get cleaned up. Fuck me again after I finish up?”
“Of course, baby.”
She kissed you on the cheek as she made her exit, walking gingerly and taking slow, tired steps out of the room.
You felt a little guilty that her staff would have to put in so much extra work, but that was their problem not yours. The fact that your load would be dripping out of her for the rest of the photo shoot, just the thought putting a smirk on your face.
You pulled your pants back up, stopping by the nearest bathroom to try and fix your hair, freshening yourself up before heading back.
Somi had a lot of explaining to do.
Pedro Pascal on Fame and ‘The Mandalorian’: ‘Can We Cut the S— and Talk About the Child?’
By Adam B. Vary
Photographs by Beau Grealy
When Pedro Pascal was roughly 4 years old, he and his family went to see the 1978 hit movie “Superman,” starring Christopher Reeve. Pascal’s young parents had come to live in San Antonio after fleeing their native Chile during the rise of dictator Augusto Pinochet in the mid-1970s. Taking Pascal and his older sister to the movies — sometimes more than once a week — had become a kind of family ritual, a way to soak up as much American pop culture as possible.
At some point during this particular visit, Pascal needed to go to the bathroom, and his parents let him go by himself. “I didn’t really know how to read yet,” Pascal says with the same Cheshire grin that dazzled “Game of Thrones” fans during his run as the wily (and doomed) Oberyn Martel. “I did not find my way back to ‘Superman.'”
Instead, Pascal wandered into a different theater (he thinks it was showing the 1979 domestic drama “Kramer vs. Kramer,” but, again, he was 4). In his shock and bewilderment at being lost, he curled up into an open seat and fell asleep. When he woke up, the movie was over, the theater was empty, and his parents were standing over him. To his surprise, they seemed rather calm, but another detail sticks out even more.
“I know that they finished their movie,” he says, bending over in laughter. “My sister was trying to get a rise out of me by telling me, ‘This happened and that happened and then Superman did this and then, you know, the earthquake and spinning around the planet.'” In the face of such relentless sibling mockery, Pascal did the only logical thing: “I said, ‘All that happened in my movie too.'”
He had no way of knowing it at the time, of course, but some 40 years later, Pascal would in fact get the chance to star in a movie alongside a DC Comics superhero — not to mention battle Stormtroopers and, er, face off against the most formidable warrior in Westeros. After his breakout on “Game of Thrones,” he became an instant get-me-that-guy sensation, mostly as headstrong, taciturn men of action — from chasing drug traffickers in Colombia for three seasons on Netflix’s “Narcos” to squaring off against Denzel Washington in “The Equalizer 2.”
This year, though, Pascal finds himself poised for the kind of marquee career he’s spent a lifetime dreaming about. On Oct. 30, he’ll return for Season 2 as the title star of “The Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm’s light-speed hit “Star Wars” series for Disney Plus that earned 15 Emmy nominations, including best drama, in its first season. And then on Dec. 25 — COVID-19 depending — he’ll play the slippery comic book villain Maxwell Lord opposite Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig in “Wonder Woman 1984.”
The roles are at once wildly divergent and the best showcase yet for Pascal’s elastic talents. In “The Mandalorian,” he must hide his face — and, in some episodes, his whole body — in a performance that pushes minimalism and restraint to an almost ascetic ideal. In “Wonder Woman 1984,” by stark contrast, he is delivering the kind of big, broad bad-guy character that populated the 1980s popcorn spectaculars of his youth.
“I continually am so surprised when everybody pegs him as such a serious guy,” says “Wonder Woman 1984” director Patty Jenkins. “I have to say, Pedro is one of the most appealing people I have known. He instantly becomes someone that everybody invites over and you want to have around and you want to talk to.”
Talk with Pascal for just five minutes — even when he’s stuck in his car because he ran out of time running errands before his flight to make it to the set of a Nicolas Cage movie in Budapest — and you get an immediate sense of what Jenkins is talking about. Before our interview really starts, Pascal points out, via Zoom, that my dog is licking his nether regions in the background. “Don’t stop him!” he says with an almost naughty reproach. “Let him live his life!”
Over our three such conversations, it’s also clear that Pascal’s great good humor and charm have been at once ballast for a number of striking hardships, and a bulwark that makes his hard-won success a challenge for him to fully accept.
Before Pascal knew anything about “The Mandalorian,” its showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau knew he wanted Pascal to star in it.
“He feels very much like a classic movie star in his charm and his delivery,” says Favreau. “And he’s somebody who takes his craft very seriously.” Favreau felt Pascal had the presence and skill essential to deliver a character — named Din Djarin, but mostly called Mando — who spends virtually every second of his time on screen wearing a helmet, part of the sacrosanct creed of the Mandalorian order.
Convincing any actor to hide their face for the run of a series can be as precarious as escaping a Sarlacc pit. To win Pascal over in their initial meeting, Favreau brought him behind the “Mandalorian” curtain, into a conference room papered with storyboards covering the arc of the first season. “When he walked in, it must have felt a little surreal,” Favreau says. “You know, most of your experiences as an actor, people are kicking the tires to see if it’s a good fit. But in this case, everything was locked and loaded.”
Needless to say, it worked. “I hope this doesn’t sound like me fashioning myself like I’m, you know, so smart, but I agreed to do this [show] because the impression I had when I had my first meeting was that this is the next big s—,” Pascal says with a laugh.
Favreau’s determination to cast Pascal, however, put the actor in a tricky situation: Pascal’s own commitments to make “Wonder Woman 1984” in London and to perform in a Broadway run of “King Lear” with Glenda Jackson barreled right into the production schedule for “The Mandalorian.” Some scenes on the show, and in at least one case a full episode, would need to lean on the anonymity of the title character more than anyone had quite planned, with two stunt performers — Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder — playing Mando on set and Pascal dubbing in the dialogue months later.
Pascal was already being asked to smother one of his best tools as an actor, extraordinarily uncommon for anyone shouldering the newest iteration of a global live-action franchise. (Imagine Robert Downey Jr. only playing Iron Man while wearing a mask — you can’t!) Now he had to hand over control of Mando’s body to other performers too. Some actors would have walked away. Pascal didn’t.
“If there were more than just a couple of pages of a one-on-one scene, I did feel uneasy about not, in some instances, being able to totally author that,” he says. “But it was so easy in such a sort of practical and unexciting way for it to be up to them. When you’re dealing with a franchise as large as this, you are such a passenger to however they’re going to carve it out. It’s just so specific. It’s ‘Star Wars.'” (For Season 2, Pascal says he was on the set far more, though he still sat out many of Mando’s stunts.)
“The Mandalorian” was indeed the next big s—, helping to catapult the launch of Disney Plus to 26.5 million subscribers in its first six weeks. With the “Star Wars” movies frozen in carbonite until 2023 (at least), I noted offhand that he’s now effectively the face of one of the biggest pop-culture franchises in the world. Pascal could barely suppress rolling his eyes.
“I mean, come on, there isn’t a face!” he says with a laugh that feels maybe a little forced. “If you want to say, ‘You’re the silhouette’ — which is also a team effort — then, yeah.” He pauses. “Can we just cut the s— and talk about the Child?”
Yes, of course, the Child — or, as the rest of the galaxy calls it, Baby Yoda. Pascal first saw the incandescently cute creature during his download of “Mandalorian” storyboards in that initial meeting with Favreau. “Literally, my eyes following left to right, up and down, and, boom, Baby Yoda close to the end of the first episode,” he says. “That was when I was like, ‘Oh, yep, that’s a winner!'”
Baby Yoda is undeniably the breakout star of “The Mandalorian,” inspiring infinite memes and apocryphal basketball game sightings. But the show wouldn’t work if audiences weren’t invested in Mando’s evolving emotional connection to the wee scene stealer, something Favreau says Pascal understood from the jump. “He’s tracking the arc of that relationship,” says the showrunner. “His insight has made us rethink moments over the course of the show.” (As with all things “Star Wars,” questions about specifics are deflected in deference to the all-powerful Galactic Order of Spoilers.)
Even if Pascal couldn’t always be inside Mando’s body, he never left the character’s head, always aware of how this orphaned bounty hunter who caroms from planet to planet would look askance at anything that felt too good (or too adorable) to be true.
“The transience is something that I’m incredibly familiar with, you know?” Pascal says. “Understanding the opportunity for complexity under all of the armor was not hard for me.”
When Pascal was 4 months old, his parents had to leave him and his sister with their aunt, so they could go into hiding to avoid capture during Pinochet’s crackdown against his opposition. After six months, they finally managed to climb the walls of the Venezuelan embassy during a shift change and claim asylum; from there, the family relocated, first to Denmark, then to San Antonio, where Pascal’s father got a job as a physician.
Pascal was too young to remember any of this, and for a healthy stretch of his childhood, his complicated Chilean heritage sat in parallel to his life in the U.S. — separate tracks, equally important, never quite intersecting. By the time Pascal was 8, his family was able to take regular trips back to Chile to visit with his 34 first cousins. But he doesn’t remember really talking about any of his time there all that much with his American friends.
“I remember at one point not even realizing that my parents had accents until a friend was like, ‘Why does your mom talk like that?'” Pascal says. “And I remember thinking, like what?”
Besides, he loved his life in San Antonio. His father took him and his sister to Spurs basketball games during the week if their homework was done. He hoodwinked his mother into letting him see “Poltergeist” at the local multiplex. He watched just about anything on cable; the HBO special of Whoopi Goldberg’s one-woman Broadway show knocked him flat. He remembers seeing Henry Thomas in “E.T.” and Christian Bale in “Empire of the Sun” and wishing ardently, urgently, I want to live those stories too.
Then his father got a job in Orange County, Calif. After Pascal finished the fifth grade, they moved there. It was a shock. “There were two really, really rough years,” he says. “A lot of bullying.”
His mother found him a nascent performing arts high school in the area, and Pascal burrowed even further into his obsessions, devouring any play or movie he could get his hands on. His senior year, a friend of his mother’s gave Pascal her ticket to a long two-part play running in downtown Los Angeles that her bad back couldn’t withstand. He got out of school early to drive there by himself. It was the pre-Broadway run of “Angels in America.”
“And it changed me,” he says with almost religious awe. “It changed me.”
After studying acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Pascal booked a succession of solid gigs, like MTV’s “Undressed” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” But the sudden death of his mother — who’d only just been permitted to move back to Chile a few years earlier — took the wind right from Pascal’s sails. He lost his agent, and his career stalled almost completely.
As a tribute to her, he decided to change his professional last name from Balmaceda, his father’s, to Pascal, his mother’s. “And also, because Americans had such a hard time pronouncing Balmaceda,” he says. “It was exhausting.”
Pascal even tried swapping out Pedro for Alexander (an homage to Ingmar Bergman’s “Fanny and Alexander,” one of the formative films of his youth). “I was willing to do absolutely anything to work more,” he says. “And that meant if people felt confused by who they were looking at in the casting room because his first name was Pedro, then I’ll change that. It didn’t work.”
It was a desperately lean time for Pascal. He booked an occasional “Law & Order” episode, but mostly he was pounding the pavement along with his other New York theater friends — like Oscar Isaac, who met Pascal doing an Off Broadway play. They became fast, lifelong friends, bonding over their shared passions and frustrations as actors.
“It’s gotten better, but at that point, it was so easy to be pigeonholed in very specific roles because we’re Latinos,” says Isaac. “It’s like, how many gang member roles am I going to be sent?” As with so many actors, the dream Pascal and Isaac shared to live the stories of their childhoods had been stripped down to its most basic utility. “The dream was to be able to pay rent,” says Isaac. “There wasn’t a strategy. We were just struggling. It was talking about how to do this thing that we both love but seems kind of insurmountable.”
As with so few actors, that dream was finally rekindled through sheer nerve and the luck of who you know, when another lifelong friend, actor Sarah Paulson, agreed to pass along Pascal’s audition for Oberyn Martell to her best friend Amanda Peet, who is married to “Game of Thrones” co-showrunner David Benioff.
“First of all, it was an iPhone selfie audition, which was unusual,” Benioff remembers over email. “And this wasn’t one of the new-fangled iPhones with the fancy cameras. It looked like s—; it was shot vertical; the whole thing was very amateurish. Except for the performance, which was intense and believable and just right.”
Before Pascal knew it, he found himself in Belfast, sitting inside the Great Hall of the Red Keep as one of the judges at Tyrion Lannister’s trial for the murder of King Joffrey. “I was between Charles Dance and Lena Headey, with a view of the entire f—ing set,” Pascal says, his eyes wide and astonished still at the memory. “I couldn’t believe I didn’t have an uncomfortable costume on. You know, I got to sit — and with this view.” He sighs. “It strangely aligned itself with the kind of thinking I was developing as a child that, at that point, I was convinced was not happening.”
And then it all started to happen.
In early 2018, while Pascal was in Hawaii preparing to make the Netflix thriller “Triple Frontier” — opposite his old friend Isaac — he got a call from the film’s producer Charles Roven, who told him Patty Jenkins wanted to meet with him in London to discuss a role in another film Roven was producing, “Wonder Woman 1984.”
“It was a f—ing offer,” Pascal says in an incredulous whisper. “I wasn’t really grasping that Patty wanted to talk to me about a part that I was going to play, not a part that I needed to get. I wasn’t able to totally accept that.”
Pascal had actually shot a TV pilot with Jenkins that wasn’t picked up, made right before his life-changing run on “Game of Thrones” aired. “I got to work with Patty for three days or something and then thought I’d never see her again,” he says. “I didn’t even know she remembered me from that.”
She did. “I worked with him, so I knew him,” she says. “I didn’t need him to prove anything for me. I just loved the idea of him, and I thought he would be kind of unexpected, because he doesn’t scream ‘villain.'”
In Jenkins’ vision, Max Lord — a longstanding DC Comics rogue who shares a particularly tangled history with Wonder Woman — is a slick, self-styled tycoon with a knack for manipulation and an undercurrent of genuine pathos. It was the kind of larger-than-life character Pascal had never been asked to tackle before, so he did something equally unorthodox: He transformed his script into a kind of pop-art scrapbook, filled with blown-up photocopies of Max Lord from the comic books that Pascal then manipulated through his lens on the character.
Even the few pages Pascal flashes to me over Zoom are quite revealing. One, featuring Max sporting a power suit and a smarmy grin, has several burned-out holes, including through the character’s eye. Another page features Max surrounded by text bubbles into which Pascal has written, over and over and over again in itty-bitty lettering, “You are a f—ing piece of s—.”
“I felt like I had wake myself up again in a big way,” he says. “This was just a practical way of, like, instead of going home tired and putting Netflix on, [I would] actually deal with this physical thing, doodle and think about it and run it.”
Jenkins is so bullish on Pascal’s performance that she thinks it could explode his career in the same way her 2003 film “Monster” forever changed how the industry saw Charlize Theron. “I would never cast him as just the stoic, quiet guy,” Jenkins says. “I almost think he’s unrecognizable from ‘Narcos’ to ‘Wonder Woman.’ Wouldn’t even know that was the same guy. But I think that may change.”
When people can see “Wonder Woman 1984” remains caught in the chaos the pandemic has wreaked on the industry; both Pascal and Jenkins are hopeful the Dec. 25 release date will stick, but neither is terribly sure it will. Perhaps it’s because of that uncertainty, perhaps it’s because he’s spent his life on the outside of a dream he’s now suddenly living, but Pascal does not share Jenkins’ optimism that his experience making “Wonder Woman 1984” will open doors to more opportunities like it.
“It will never happen again,” Pascal says, once more in that incredulous whisper. “It felt so special.”
After all he’s done in a few short years, why wouldn’t Pascal think more roles like this are on his horizon?
“I don’t know!” he finally says with a playful — and pointed — howl. “I’m protecting myself psychologically! It’s just all too good to be true! How dare I!”
Event: Edgar Birthday Countdown
Pairing: Iris x Edgar
A/N: plumpblueberry requested this from the Touches Event that is still open! I thought it worked well for a sweet fic for Edgar! Yes, I know his birthday has long passed but I’m finishing these fics dammit.
“Everyone, please keep moving inward! Down to the designated disaster rooms!”
Central Quarter had spiraled into chaos as the worst storm Cradle had witnessed in years barreled into the plaza. Both armies were surprised by the severity. The storm whisked in from the sea, giving little time for preparation to safely get citizens inside. Violent winds howled through the streets, its battle cry a prelude to its tantrum, thrashing all that was in its path.
Iris used her entire body to hold one door open against the brutal wind. “Edgar, that’s enough. Get inside, both of you!” Her call fell on deaf ears. The Jack struggled with the elderly vendor to secure his stall closed in hopes of protecting the precious contents. Blue irises surveyed the near empty plaza. Only a few soldiers remained, shuffling the last of the citizens indoors.
“Ma’am! There are some unsatisfied with our orders to remain inside instead of patrolling for stragglers.” One of her own approached, a little meek but his gaze shifted to the huddle of Black Army soldiers eyeing her with irritation. The same group she’d reprimanded not so long ago for questioning her orders.
“No. I’ve already dismissed that misguided action. What good will you be to Cradle if you end up injured along with them? Shelter in place until the storm has lessened, that way we can be of use to those who are injured or trapped.” Her words echoed across the lobby with force. The unforgiving storm would make a wannabe hero into a victim. “Instead of standing around like a bunch of gossiping socialites, get those people into the designated shelter rooms.”
With a disgusted expression, the young soldier said, “All due respect, Ten of Hearts,” her title dripping with derision from his tongue, “The personal with the spare keys for the second sub-floor rooms never arrived. They’re locked.” As if that fact made him the superior in the situation.
“Break the damn thing open? Or do you need me to teach you how to do that as well?”
The soldier beside her snickered at the Black Army’s soldiers' crumpled expressions. “I’ll see it done, ma’am.” He saluted, lips still pulling into an amused grin. He’d been assigned to her unit not long ago but had found it to be to his liking.
Her attention returned to her superior. The wind whipped through his brown locks. Edgar tugged the rope hard, fighting the flapping doors closed and securing them with expertise. Only a few drops hit the pavement before sheets of rain poured from the dark clouds. It’s roar joining that of the wind. But she caught a broken cry.
Iris thought she may have imagined it, but she couldn’t go in without a quick survey of the area.
Vision was incredibly low as she ignored her own orders in search of what she thought to be a lost child. They must be close if she could hear it over the storm. Her surroundings lit up with a streak of crystal lightning, and the thunder that followed shook the ground beneath her feet. The storm showed its strength, challenging the earth to stand against it.
Iris rounded the corner of the civic center, uniform utterly soaked. Blue irises squinted, lashes dripping with the water, hazing her vision. “Is anyone-”
Another rattling boom brought a shriek with it. The woman crouched down, peering into a patch of bushes by the side of the building. Deep within, she found a boy no older than five cowering within, clutching a plush toy as his lifeline. “You can come out now. I’ll get you inside.” She offered her hand, chilled rain pelting against her skin.
Pop. Pop.
“Mama says I’m not supposed to go with strangers.”
“That’s very good advice, but I’m sure your mama also told you that you can trust army soldiers, isn’t that right?” She tugged at her soaked white uniform. “I’m Iris, the Ten of Hearts. So come on out-”
His little head shook, nose crinkling. “The Red Army doesn’t allow women to join them. You’re a liar.”
Iris began to remember why she had a dislike for children. They were mouthy, and fickle. They didn’t listen, even when in imminent danger. Her knees sank into the muddy grass as she leaned forward to attempt to grab him. “That’s an old rule. King Lancelot made some recent changes. We have to get inside, come out from there!”
Her fingers grazed his tiny arm, almost reaching him.
“Iris!”
CRACK.
A body tackled against hers with enough force to knock the wind out of her. It was a blur. The world disappeared for a moment, leaving her disoriented. Blinking slowly, she found herself pressed against the ground, leaves of the now uprooted tree tickling against her cheek. The large branch that the smaller one nearly broke off rested against the back of her superior, who’d shielded her from being hit.
“Edgar?” She struggled to move any part of her body, pinned beneath his body. Even though the brunt had been borne by the Jack of Hearts, she could feel herself aching already.
Edgar groaned, shifting his weight to allow her space to slip out. “Thank goodness I made it.” He coughed, blood droplets splattering onto the muddy ground. He peeled himself up, staggering but able to stand. He tested his limbs, nothing seemed to be broken. They were lucky to have only been impacted by that one branch.
She resisted every urge within to check his wounds. Turning back to the bushes, also missed by the uprooted tree, Iris sighed with relief. “Will you come inside with us now?”
The boy had no issue trusting her after the fright he’d been given. The two returned the boy to his grateful mother before going to the infirmary on the main floor at Iris’s request. A locked door gave them absolute privacy. Nothing quite so nefarious or naughty as Edgar might have usually teased. Their uniforms unwearable, lest they wish to catch a cold.
“Sit down, and stop staring at me,” Iris chastised, clad in only her wet undergarments. She scanned the shelves for what she'd need to treat him. Perhaps it would be advantageous to learn a little more first aid.
"I'm positive I can wait until the storm passes." Edgar leaned against the arm of the couch.
Iris signed, hearing what he was insinuating. Of her many areas of expertise, first aid was not one of them. "Do you not trust me?" The question not a serious one. She conceded and abandoned the shelf to return to the warm fire.
Edgar winced, but reached out to grab her, tugging her into his arms. "It's cute when you pout.” His signature grin only graced his lips for a fleeting moment, crumbling into a frown. His cold fingers brushed her warm cheek, careful not to touch the wound lest he hurt her. "You've been hurt."
"It's a scratch. You're the one who got crushed by a tree branch. Probably a broken rib or two." The bruises already forming on his muscular abdomen. She should wrap them but lacked the knowledge to do so. “You’re an idiot.”
“I love you too, Iris.” His features still expressed concern. If he’d been a little faster, if he’d done more to protect her, then she wouldn’t be injured at all. Jade irises focused on the cut, as if he could will the wound to close.
Despite his grunt of pain, he was delighted the moment her lips met his. He pulled her in closer with a gentle jerk, catching her off guard. The two fell back onto the soft cushions of the couch. It was so adorable how hard she tried to hide her feelings.
“Are you trying to hurt yourself further?” Iris couldn’t break free of his hold. Her body weight had to be hurting him. It was irritating that he tended to do as he pleased at all times, but it always made her heart flip in her chest. Besides, who could resist that sweet smile?
“No, I do believe I’m distracting myself from the pain. The only real medicine is touching you.”
Silver tongue.
As if to prove his point, Edgar gingerly traced his fingers up and down her spine, humming to himself. He never tired of feeling her soft skin beneath the pads of his fingertips. She had incredible fighting skill, amazing strength, and yet, she remained oh so soft.
“You’re so unreasonable. We’re on duty.”
“Ah, but I’m not the one thinking naughty thoughts.”
Iris shook her head, smacking her hand against his shoulder as punishment, receiving a grunt from him. “I’ll go check on the soldiers upstairs then-” He was always thinking indecent things.
But Edgar tutted at her, managing to catch her again before she’d completely escaped. It didn’t feel so great moving so quickly, but it was nothing compared to what he’d feel if she left him right now. “Who said you could leave me? I’m injured, remember?”
He sounded much like a wounded puppy begging for its owner to pay attention to it.
“I guess I can stay a little longer.” Iris caved, her back flush against his chest. The fire did warm her cold body, and she did have a weak spot for this puppy side of him, especially with the way he snuggled against her, resting his chin on her shoulder.
Edgar gave her a little squeeze, absently tracing patterns over her stomach. He’d love nothing more than to wind her up, excite her, but the pain did inhibit his ability to do so. Instead, the Jack of Hearts was content simply holding her in his arms while they waited out the storm.
Meeting DK for the first time
Title: Love in the form of books
pairing: Seokmin x reader
genre: fluff, strangers to lovers!au
type: scenario, oneshot
summary: DK had to return and borrow some new books for seventeen since he was the only one that was free. He stopped by after doing other tasks and met you, the librarian
you sighed out as you pushed the cart full of books towards the fiction aisle. it was a friday evening, and you were still at your librarian job instead of hanging out with your friends.
Since you’ve started living independently, you had to take up a job to afford daily necessities such as travelling fares and meals. you looked for many different jobs when you first decided to get one.
however the library position was the only job available that could fit your collage schedule as well. it paid decently well and you couldn’t complain much either.
you were very lucky that you could land a job that didn’t require to move around much since the library was just a 10 min walk from your apartment.
you started packing and reshelfing the books in order and hummed a soft melody to yourself while doing so. to be fair, you’ve always loved the library, the smell of old books, the sound of page flipping was always comfort to you.
you read small bits of books before shelfing them into their original position, rolling your eyes and sighing out as you realised that the same small group of naughty children messed up the kids section again.
you heard small giggles from behind you and turned to see the kids trying to hold their laughter in. You shush and shoo them away, however annoying they were, they made you job definitely more lively and interesting.
DK had finally reached his final task of the day, one hand holding a small bag of mail and the other holding a bag full of books. To be fair, he only had two tasks.
One from Seungchol to collect their mail downstairs and the other from wonwoo and minghao. They have give him a list of books that they wanted to loan. The vocal unit finished up practice earlier than the rest of the units, thus giving DK some free time
He also volunteered to help anyways, gave him some time to go out and do something.
he entered the library and sighed out in relief as the heaters were warming him up quickly, in contrast to the weather outside. it was winter currently, the streets were filled with white folds and pelts of snow.
DK took off his coat and gloves. Rubbing and blowing hot air into his hands to warm them up faster.
He looked around the library and found the return and checkout counter, however there was no one there. He pressed on the bell to alert someone for assistance
You quickly placed the book you were currently reading about when you heard the bell ringing, signalling that someone needed help.
you manauvered through the rows of bookshelfs and met with a man whose back was towards you. he was carrying his coat and gloves and stacked a pile of books onto the counter. another bag by his side on the floor
The man was wearing a mask so you couldn’t really see his face clearly. However as he heard your footsteps, he turned behind and took of his mask.
you swear you saw sun rays shining through him. he had big eyes and beautiful lips, however the one thing you noticed was the fact that the image of him, gave you the same feelings of warmth and comfort.
the nice feeling of home
you didn’t realised that you started taking smaller steps towards him, and was staring at him the whole time
until the beautiful stranger cocked his head slightly towards one side and looked at you curiously. He didn’t seem rude or impatient though
You cleared your throat and slapped yourself lightly to get you to pay attention to what happening right now.
“Hey, so sorry, how can i help you?” you said as you went behind the counter
the beautiful stranger placed his hand and patted the pile of books a few times. “it’s fine, my friends borrowed these books and they asked me to help return them” he finished, smiling as well.
As he was talking you couldn’t help but notice the small dimple that appeared on his cheeks that made him even more adorable, his bright smile only making it more visible and cute.
his voice was smooth and slightly deep, it was gentle as hell and made you want to melt into a pool of liquid.
“sure, i’ll just help you verify that they’ve already returned them. is that all?” you replied. you were hoping the beautiful stranger would stay and check out some books or something. something about him just lifted your spirits.
“oh uh” the stranger jerked slightly like he remembered something and reached into his pocket to pull a piece of paper out. “this is the list of books that they would like to borrow, it’s fine if i help them borrow right?”
Thank god, the first thought that entered your brain. you smiled in relief and said, “yeah it’s fine, why don’t you let me see that list and i’ll help you get those books.”
“are you sure? i wouldn’t want to disrupt you from your other tasks” this man was not only beautiful, but polite too.
“it’s fine, it’s part of my job anyways. now let’s go and get you those books” you said smiling.
Something in DK stirred watching you smile and treat him politely. When he first saw you he was defintely shocked at how pretty you looked even in a simple outfit
jeans and a sweater
you looked so warm and cozy, he had the urge to hug the life out of you. People often told him that DK radiates positive energy and sunshine everywhere he goes, however this was the first time he met someone who radiated warmth and comfort
As you faltered slightly in your steps, DK was kinda curious as to why you were walking slower but your eyes still meeting his.
shit shit, is there something on my face? what if she’s scared of me? that’ll be a first thoughts ran through DK’s head till you spoke up first
“Hey, so sorry, how can i help you?” he heard you say, his heart started beating faster. your voice was so calming yet he felt nervous around you
it was a nice tingly feeling though
he raised his hand to pat the book stack he made after taking off his gloves and replied, “it’s fine, my friends borrowed these books and they asked me to help return them”
and afterwards he smiled so naturally towards you. you know sometimes you meet someone and you just want to greet them nicely with a smile, to DK that was you. DK didn’t even realise his mouth muscles moved on their own
He watched you collect the books and scan them to check them out before speaking up again, “sure, i’ll just help you verify that they’ve already returned them. is that all?”
he hoped that was not all. he didn’t wanna leave just yet, he wanted to stay and talk with you and get to know you better so he quickly thought about things he could use as an excuse to stay
a glimmer shined hope in DK’s brain as he remembered the list of books Minghao and Wonwoo wanted. He had never felt this happy that he still had another task to complete. but of course it’s with you. hopefully
“oh uh”, he kept fumbling with his stuff and trying to grab the piece of paper, “this is the list of books that they would like to borrow, it’s fine if i help them borrow right?” he questioned, he wasn’t super sure about the regulations here
“yeah it’s fine, why don’t you let me see that list and i’ll help you get those books.” he saw you smile again towards him and his heart skipped another beat
“are you sure? i wouldn’t want to disrupt you from your other tasks” of course he wanted you to help, but he didn’t want to burden you either
“it’s fine, it’s part of my job anyways. now let’s go and get you those books” YES! he would’ve cheered out loud if you weren’t there
DK followed you around his he knew nothing about the library and the location of the books. he offered to help you carry the pretty heavy books however, god knows how wonwoo and minghao finds the time to finish them
damnit, the book is too high you thought to yourself. This was the last book on the list and from where it stood on the high shelf, it looked like it was looking down and laughing at your small height
why. just why
You tried jumping and pulling it out, but it didn’t work. how embarrassing. usually there would be ladders nearby but you didn’t see any. you sighed out and thought about other ways to reach the book, forgetting about your little helper
DK noticed how hard you tried to reach the book that was too high up for you and stifled his laughter. As much as he wanted to help you he loved the look on your face as if you were staring murderously at the book
it was too cute for him
once he had his fanboy moment though, he reached out and grabbed the book from behind you
you felt a presence towering from behind you and you realised it was the beautiful stranger. you were able to smell his rich vanilla scent that you absolutely loved
since you guys were standing in close proximity, you couldn’t help but blush. you felt him stay in the same spot for a moment before stepping away. you softly mumbled a small, “thank you” and looked up at him
you were shocked to see that his hand was desperately trying to hide the blush on his face as he looked away from you
he placed the book on the newly formed stack, and finally turned towards you again, holding up his hand
“I’m Dokyeom or you can call me DK” he looked down and read your name tag. “Y/n”
You smiled at him again and took his hand, “DK, nice to meet you”
“So y/n, if you’re free tomorrow, would you like to grab a lunch. I’ll treat you, for helping me today” DK asked shyly
oh my god oh my god oh my god please say yes
DK wished in his mind
holy shit a cute guy just asked me out holy shi-
you thought in your mind
“why not, how about 12 pm, outside the library?”
“i’ll bring flowers” DK smiled
Queering KH Part 4: Hearts in Tune
Actually KH Finally lol
Pictured: Riku humming Sora’s name in a soft, adoring, wistful voice the way a swooning straight person sighs the name of their beloved of the opposite gender.
Kingdom Hearts gives off so many subtextual signals of queer coding that it genuinely BAFFLES me how people can really believe it is straight. You may be wondering what makes me so confident in that when there has not been anything in the games to explicitly prove any of the characters are not straight, and I will be happy to tell you. It is because in order to believe Kingdom Hearts is straight, you have to ignore WAY too much subtext. To truly believe that Sora is in love with Kairi and only coded to be interested in Kairi, you have to ignore his questioning of what love is. You have to ignore the combined keyblade he shares with Riku. You have to ignore how much the narrative is driving him to understand that Riku is his most important, cherished person. This all goes doubly for Riku who has a coming out story not unlike Elsa’s metaphorical one, in which his love for Sora is his greatest source of strength. You have to pretend the necklace gifting plot point is entirely straight and cannot possibly mean anything homoromantic. You have to ignore the way Sora cries while clutching Riku’s hand compared to his subdued and non-emotional reunion with Kairi- that’s just too much “accidental subtext” for me to confidently ignore lol. Intentional or not, KH is Gay~
Here’s how we’re gonna do this.
So where the hell do I even begin with coding KH? Well- I can’t possibly queer the whole of KH text in 1 summer, so what I plan to do is this:
Give you the tools to understand KH’s coding so that you can code it yourself~
Queer a few major KH scenes so that everyone can see that the proof is in the pudding.
I’m gonna try to break down various scenes to decode them and queer them so you can see what’s at play in KH. Originally when this meta was a single doc, I was only gonna cover 4 scenes. But since I’m breaking it into parts to update at my leisure, I’m gonna just add scenes and meta as I go~
Now without further ado:
How the Hearts in Tune scene is Gay Coded
This shouldn’t be too hard at all.~
This scene is almost too easy.
The scene opens with Sora bringing Mickey the sound idea he found but as it turns out, one sound idea is not enough. Sora tells us not to worry because he has a friend who is always picking up the slack for him. Likewise, on Riku’s end, he brings his sound idea to Mickey and is surprised to see that Sora’s sound idea is necessary to complete the song.
Once the sound ideas meet, this beautiful visual plays out in which the 2 sound ideas swirl around each other and the soundtrack title “Dearly Beloved” plays.
Now, there are several things I want to note about this sequence- heck this visual alone before we move on.
Recall earlier when I discussed Shiki’s point that blue and pink (likewise blue and red) “go together”, romantically.
I will let the visual of Sora’s sheet music being pink while Riku’s is blue speak for itself. But I will also add how this ties into the yin and yang themes I’m about to discuss:
Yin and Yang
This concept gets its own section because it’s such an influential concept in so many aspects of various cultures around the globe.
Yin and Yang is an eastern philosophy which illustrates the concept of dualism. In short, it is the concept that 2 opposite halves are complements to a whole. The original term in fact translates to dark-bright.
I am neither a philosophy professor or student so I will keep this as brief as I can and simply encourage you to study up on Yin and Yang at your own leisure. I will however paste this section from wikipedia because I think it is extremely helpful information to have for studying eastern media in general.
Yin and Yang: husbanded opposing forces. Dark-Light, Moon-Sun, Chaos-Order, Winter-Summer, Negative-Positive.
Female (Yin)-Male (Yang): Yes this is often used in a heteronormative heterosexual context because people are homophobic and believe in gender binaries, unfortunately, but I implore you to consider the concept in more figurative, spiritual, aesthetic themes, especially since Yin and Yang is a much grander philosophy than mere sexuality discourse; it’s about complementary forces creating a whole.
For shipping purposes, think opposites attract. Think concepts that are traditionally associated with femininity meshing with concepts that are traditionally associated with masculinity. Queer media has a wonderful way of subverting heteronormative Yin and Yang tropes by showing that cis-hetero standards can be hypocritically non-compliant with the complementary concept.
Rather than thinking of this, 2 heteros in love based on being just- the same person with opposite genders:
Think of this, same gendered couples with complementary personalities:
Think about how an aloof scrappy butchy vampire queen attracts an uptight calculating femme princess.
Think about how this goody-goody dumb jock with a martyring hero complex attracts this naughty cunning jock with a self-loathing villaness complex.
And now think about how badly we need more canonical mlm couples in children’s media lol. Oops my finger slipped. But I’m getting ahead of myself lol.
The concepts of interconnected opposite forces are so important and prominent in literature throughout the world, but yin and yang is ESPECIALLY important in Kingdom Hearts because it is a story that explicitly explores Light and Dark forces. It explores how they both oppose one another in catastrophic ways,
and how they complement each other in harmonious ways.
Getting ahead of myself again… But hey speaking of harmony, back to the matter at hand.
Hearts in Tune.
This scene shows a number of romantic symbols. As I was saying before the yin and yang tangent, pink and blue (nee red and blue) are already symbols of romantic suggestion. And in the case of them representing 2 parts of a whole song, these song pieces act as complementary halves, adding another layer of dualism to the scene. Furthermore, the music sheets swirl around each other in a yin and yang fashion. Harmony has been achieved. This lets us know these forces belong together. These forces representing Sora and Riku. They are husbanded together. These 2 hearts in question are part of each other. In fact, Mickey even says so:
Perhaps most damning, however, is that the song in question is “Dearly Beloved”, arguably the theme song for Kingdom Hearts as far as the score goes. I’m sure it goes without say that “Dearly Beloved” is not only in itself a romantic sounding phrase but it is also the phrase specifically said by officiators of weddings to the congregation before the wedding vows are exchanged. “Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today…”
I will also mention that Riku’s dream eater symbol visible in the shot is specifically designed based on a bleeding heart flower, a symbol of passionate love. Credit to Steam for pointing this out here, please follow them and read their posts they are magically delicious:
So almost everything about this scene is aesthetically romantically coded, and I didn’t even mention the fact that Dream Drop Distance’s whole color palette is themed with rainbows, which as I said earlier is absolutely still a gay symbol in Japan. Note the rainbow of colors animating from the sheet music.
So in terms of the atmosphere of the scene, its already incredibly homoromantic in every way I can think of. But what about the dialogue?
Well lets talk about the dialogue. Dialogue should always been read with care when you’re trying to queer a text. Often a lot of queer messaging in a text is subtextual. This means the text itself may actually say something gay, but you have to read further into it. This is an old method of queer writing designed to protect the writer from getting in trouble for their gay crimes.
Historical aside on this: If you’ve ever read Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray”, you may have note that Lord Henry can never just simply say that he is gay, lest Oscar Wilde be charged for homosexuality in 19th century England. Instead, Lord Henry simply tells us he is married to a woman, but makes it clear throughout the text that this marriage is mostly performative and he is not emotionally invested in it whatsoever, going against the puritanical, heternormative ideals of Victorian prudery. Lord Henry is by contrast MUCH more invested in following the life and times of his very close friend Dorian Gray, with whom he shares a hedonistic philosophy in the name of Fin de siècle. Not to be a downer but for the sake of understanding how real this subject of oppressed gay censorship is, despite keeping the homosexual themes as purely subtext, Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted of homosexuality and this book was used against him in court.
What we are privileged to have today with KH is a cutscene and not just a script. Meaning we have visuals, animation, voice acting, musical cues, etc etc to follow along with to enhance our subtext.
On Sora’s end of the conversation, Mickey points out that the song is incomplete with just his sound idea alone, and Sora tells him not to worry, as Riku is his dependable friend who will fill in where he fails. The text in the official English translation is:
Mickey: That's strange... Is one Sound Idea not enough?
Sora: Don't worry. I've got a friend out there who will help. He's always
picking up the slack for me.
This on its own sounds platonic. But note just how affectionate Sora’s voice acting is when he says it. Not only that, he clutches his heart to let us know how close he is to Riku and how much his connection with Riku matters to him. How much confidence he has in this friend he cares so much about. He then closes his eyes after saying it, smiling up in the air blissfully while he waits for their hearts to make their connection and finish the song.
Once it is finished, Mickey remarks that their sounds joined together to make something more powerful. Sora then says looking thoughtful, “Yeah. Two forces are better than one. Right, Riku?”
Following this, Sora leaves to fight the boss.
On Riku’s side, Mickey questions what happened, and Riku looks up thoughtfully, and says tenderly, “Sora.”
Mickey comments “Sora? Funny... Just hearing that name kinda makes me wanna smile.” and Riku tells him warmly, “Yeah. That's how he is.”
Mickey then goes on to say some really shippy stuff:
“Whaddaya know... Riku and Sora. The Sound Ideas you two set free joined together. And when they did, they made a great and powerful harmony.”
Riku then nods and tells Mickey brightly that “Sora can find the brightest part of anything, and pull off miracles like there's nothing to it. It's pretty hard not to smile around him.”
And I would like to pause to look at that line. “It’s pretty hard not to smile around him.” Although Mickey says the same thing, that just hearing Sora’s name invokes a smile, we sense a somewhat deeper meaning in Riku saying it. Why is that? Well, for one thing this game is entirely about Riku protecting Sora and exploring how much Sora actually means to him. This game is continuing Riku’s redemption arc from KH2, but it is also doing something perhaps even more important: it is providing him a journey of self discovery. This test resets Sora and Riku to level 1 so to speak, not just in their powers but even their models revert to variations of their KH1 selves. This helps to underscore Riku re-examining himself and his feelings.
And then guess what? Mickey makes some even SHIPPIER commentary. He exclaims “Wow! No wonder the music sounded like so much fun. But I bet he's got you to thank for that. Having such a good friend means he could really enjoy it.”
Riku is taken aback by this comment. “Huh?”
Mickey continues, expressing some extremely yin and yang themed sentiments,
“It's like each of you is holding on to a little part of the other. Your hearts are always in tune, so they're free to sing. Gosh, I hope I can be part of the team someday.”
Mickey did us a wonderful favor and expressed to us explicitly, for those who didn’t understand the romantic coding of the scene already, that Sora and Riku are a good match. Mickey tells Riku that the music sounded like fun in English, that it was a happy, pleasurable time, and tells him that Sora has Riku for a friend which is what must have made it so enjoyable.
So from this dialogue we get assurance that Sora and Riku are two very close friends, whose hearts are connected, and they are 2 powerful forces that merge into an even greater one. Their hearts are in tune.
Now if this were a scene about a boy and a girl, I doubt anyone would question whether it was romantic. Why should we be asked to look at it platonically just because it is 2 boys? The romantic imagery is clear.
And let me ask you this while we’re still on the subject of Dream Drop Distance:
According to Riku’s character files, he had previously thought of Sora as a little brother, and tried to be a cool older brother to him.
He then tells us that this has changed. What did it change to?
The surface level, heteronormative answer would say it changed to them being merely friends.
But isn’t that an odd regression? After all, found family is a thing, and that’s a bit weird for him to question since there is no reason for those feelings to change on that notion. If Sora loved him like a brother, that clearly hasn’t changed. Riku clearly loves Sora as deeply, so that didn’t change. The other problem with this phenomenon Riku is dealing with is that there is no reason for him to feel this strange sense of repression we keep seeing over this change. He is constantly holding back on some feelings for Sora but platonic and brotherly feelings are entirely acceptable. What is it that he is hiding? What sort of feelings for Sora would be hidden?
From the Kh2 Novel:
He really did want to see Sora and talk. But that was impossible with this appearance. The things that mattered the most were what he couldn’t tell Sora. It had always been that way.
What sort of feelings might be systemically oppressed?
This scene is pretty much EXACTLY what I would do to say as explicitly as possible that Riku is gay without being able to say it outright due to censorship.
The Flame and the Dragon Ch2
Chapter 2: The Dreamer
"Shit! Fuck! Dammit!" Kai growled as he once again reached the last page of the leather-bound novel he had been reading. He turned the last crisp leaf only to find the last page, telling that the Dragon Lord still had to find his true love, so yellowed with age and stained that it was beyond readability. No matter how many times he read his favorite story, it frustrated him to no end that the ending remained a well-kept secret. With expert care, he closed the antique book, being extra careful with the antiquarian treasure.
Gold claps and hinders lined the corners so the leather would not wear out too quickly.
Red, orange, white, and blue jewels were embedded into the twists of each corner, while a gold clasp with a leather strap kept the book locked when it wasn't being read. Gold patterns adorned the exquisite cover while faintly glowing letters spelled out the title. The spine was equally studded with gold corners binding it together and studded with dully-glowing jewels. The pages were aged and yellowed but worn in a way that made it clear the book was not only well-used but well-loved.
Running a hand through his spikey brown hair, he gently placed the book back in his bag.
Then he interlaced his hands behind his head before leaning back against the trunk of the tree he currently occupied in a laidback manner before gazing at the clear blue sky above him. The teen had tall, thick spiky brown hair, shaped like fire, and bright amber eyes that shined like burning embers. He had a focused expression on his face, with a scar visible on his right eyebrow and a bandage above his left. He wore a red half-zipped-up jacket over a white shirt with some kind of Japanese symbol on the back of the jacket and brown pants.
Nineteen-year-old Kai Smith closed his eyes with a contented sigh before happily trying to drift off to sleep.
He wanted to escape the shackles of life outside the wide acres of land and forest surrounding the small home he occupied with his beloved sibling. If only to escape for a moment.
"KAI!"
"AHH!" He cried out as the sudden noise caused Kai to bolt from his serenity, and momentarily forgetting where he was, he maneuvered to see what it was that had woken him. The sound of giggling from above forced his eyes open, and he came face to face with the adorable face and sweet, innocent smile of his younger adopted brother. He had long, blonde tousled hair, and brown arched eyebrows with bright emerald green eyes that many people would state could sometimes glow in the dark.
He wore a dark green jacket with a white t-shirt and black pants and black and dark green sneakers.
"Good morning!" Twelve-year-old Lloyd smiled down at his older brother with a wide, bright smile and innocent eyes cutely shut. "Sleep well?"
"I did," Kai smirked with a tone of mock irritation. "Until a certain someone conspired to kill me by knocking me out of a tree." He answered with a mock glare, but his brother simply burst into laughter before taking a step back. Recognizing the game, Kai smirked and took a step forward. Lloyd took another step back, but Kai was quick to follow him until finally Lloyd turned and sprinted. The chase had begun. Letting him have his fun, Kai let his little brother win for a moment before putting on a sudden burst of speed and tackling the child to the ground.
The two rolled around for a few minutes before finally collapsing in a field of colorful flowers in a heap of laughter.
"You have been a very, very naughty boy, Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon-Smith." Kai scolded playfully, wagging his finger in front of Lloyd's face as if punishing a small child. Lloyd pouted at this, succeeding only in making himself look cuter, but Kai had helped raise him and was immune to his little brother's tricks to getting out of trouble.
"Perhaps I should ask Nya if she could cook a veggie casserole for dinner instead of pizza?" He mused thoughtfully. Lloyd's reaction changed in an instant.
"No!" The younger boy squeaked in pure panic and quickly jumped to his feet. He tugged harshly on Kai's arms and ran around him to push him to his feet when that didn't work. "Let's go, please! We can go right now! I'll even carry everything home, I promise." He started saying quickly and desperately. It took all of Kai's willpower not to fall to the ground laughing at his brother's response.
"Alright, alright green bean, we'll go." Kai chuckled at his brother's relieved smile while reaching to retrieve the bag that he had lost during their play. "But you have to promise to behave." He added and Lloyd groaned in defeat but nodded, his love of seeing the town outweighing his pride. The siblings had moved to the sleepy town of Ignacia when Lloyd was eight and Kai and Nya had just turned fifteen. They had instantly begun rebelling against the role society had dictated for him.
The trio's father Ray, a retired blacksmith, had settled his family in the small town not long after the family lost their mother to illness.
When the Smiths first arrived in Ignacia, Maya, the trio's mother and a fantastic artist who was very talented with watercolors, and their father Ray shared a love of adventure and traveled around a lot, studying the different cultures they came across. They continued their adventurous life after they were married. They had settled down for a short time when they received the joyful news that Maya was pregnant with Kai and Nya. After the twins were born, the couple decided they wanted to adopt another.
It wasn't long before they adopted a one-year-old Lloyd.
Once Lloyd was old enough to travel, the family continued their adventurous lifestyle. Unfortunately, news of her mother's illness sent the family rushing back to Ninjago City for treatment, but sadly no medicine was enough to save her. Maya's dying wish to her children and husband was for them all to be happy and to never stop following their hearts. Shortly after, the remaining family members moved to the sleepy, provincial little town of Ignacia.
The town of Ignacia was built in a large glade of a mighty forest and was truly an ancient phenomenon.
Its appearance was matched by the backdrop of giant mountains which have helped shape the city into what it is today. The materials that these mountains brought were of great importance. The village itself looked elegant. With its seagrass rooftops, redwood walls, and native bird species, the place had a pleasant atmosphere. The main attraction in the town was the fountain, which was built thirty-nine years ago. Ignacia had an unhealthy economy, which was mainly supported by fletching, wood-crafting, and armorsmithing.
But their biggest strengths were sustainable hunting and advanced medicine.
In the town of Ignacia Ray set up a small shop selling glass objects, paintings, sculptures, and anything he could craft in his forge. Even though they were quite wealthy compared to the rest of the small town. It hadn't been too difficult for the family to settle into small-town life after almost four years of traveling. Nya, like their mother, adored all forms of art around the world, but she found the Japanese style of their home inspiring. Soon her own art flooded the shop.
As long as Nya had her art, she was happy.
Carefree and fun-loving, Lloyd found a new adventure in everything he could find and delighted in the woods and the fields around his home and the town and the many buildings. If he wasn't exploring, he was plotting to steal candy from the grown-ups. Kai, unfortunately, hadn't adjusted so easily. He missed those days. Traveling and seeing many exotic places and cultures, and learning about the world ever since the morning they came to this provincial, backwater town.
It was already mid-morning and the streets were alive with bustling people, carrying out identical routines to the rest of the week.
The smooth cobblestone streets lined the city, identical massive stones corbelled together. Identical red and brown houses on batches of dirt or elevate on hills lined both sides of the streets with windows for houses on top and shops on the bottom. They were smushed close together while stone chimneys lined each roof. An enormous wall surrounded the town, separating it from the lush woods and fields, already starting to change color in the late autumn.
Kai noticed every morning just the same.
The baker carried his tray like always, the aroma of baked goods filling the crisp autumn air as people opened up shop and carried out their daily routines. People were gathering their goods and running errands, the same routine, saying good morning and asking how they were and how their families were doing. Even though the Smiths were different, they were no exception.
"Good morning, Lloyd! Good morning Kai!" The baker called, carrying a tray of bread and rolls.
"Good morning!" Lloyd chimed and rushed over with Kai behind him. The child bounced from shop to shop, delighting in his favorite past time while Kai tried in vain to strike up a conversation with the baker.
"Where you off to?" The baker asked.
"The library," Kai answered. "I just finished the most amazing book about a spellcaster and–"
"That's nice." The baker replied, having clearly stopped listening after Kai said library and called to his assistant to finish making the croissants for the day. Kai rolled his amber eyes and called for Lloyd. They continued their stroll to the only real place Kai felt at home in the dull, little town. Already, townspeople began to gossip about them as he walked by.
"That boy is strange, no question." A group of gossiping old ladies muttered amongst themselves.
"He's always distracted."
"He's never part of any crowd." An aristocratic woman pointed out. "He's always by himself reading books."
"His head's in the clouds, all the time." An old man grunted.
"No denying he's a funny boy that Kai." A group of shoppers conversed amongst themselves, while men running shopped, bowed, and tipped their hats respectively to any woman who came by. Kai growled in annoyance as he heard the gossip. A caravan drove by, ignoring the two boys after the driver said the usual good day, while three teenage girls giggled like school girls when the brunette walked by.
"That boy is so peculiar."
"I wonder if he's feeling well?"
"He's too wild." A man said to his wife. It took all of Kai's will to not growl in frustration.
"He always has a dreamy far-off look on his face."
"If his nose isn't in a book, he's scribbling away in a notebook."
"He's so strange but special; it's a pity he doesn't fit in."
"Oh yes, he's ravishing isn't he?"
"Quite, he is a funny boy though."
"A beauty, but a funny boy."
"Very different from the rest of us."
"FSM take me now if I ever become part of this life!" Kai growled to the heavens, stomping his foot in frustration. His fists clenched whenever the words odd, strange, funny, or peculiar were mumbled over and over just like yesterday and the day before that. Every day was the same thing and he had half a mind to turn around and tell everyone in town to piss off and mind their own business. But he forced his tongue in check. He cared nothing that such an outburst would only warrant more disrespect from the town and they'd treat him even worse than he already was.
It was solely out of respect for his family that he kept his cool.
Kai had adored and respected both his parents. He, Nya, and Lloyd had been devastated when age robbed them of their beloved father. Shortly after the disease killed their mother, their father's broken heart followed her in death less than a year later. The town could say whatever they wished about him, but Kai would never forgive himself if he accidentally tarnished his parents' good name because of his inability to control his temper. That and he knew the only thing losing his temper would accomplish nothing.
Except the residents marching up to his house and complaining to Nya about how her twin brother was too wild and lacked discipline.
Quite frankly, Kai loved Nya too much to let her put up with their nonsense simply because she was Kai's twin. It simply wasn't worth it. Kai had never denied he was different from everyone else, even in his own bizarre family. But after years of traveling and seeing so many different cultures and places, his own mannerisms seemed minor in comparison. However, in this backwater town so pedestrian and old-fashioned, those simple characteristics were all the town seemed to care about.
Unlike most boys, he wanted to become a writer and travel rather than marry and inherit and run a vast estate.
Kai loathed the mannerisms that many considered normal, and as headstrong and outspoken as he was, wasn't afraid to voice it and for that, he was considered odd and freaky. Not that Kai cared, he'd long since ceased caring about what others here thought of him. But despite that, he truly wished someone would look beyond his looks and accept him for who he was. An individual and not another handsome boy bound for a wealthy marriage and was simply just too headstrong for his own good.
His sharp eyes barely caught his reflection in the glass of one of the shop windows when he and Lloyd stopped to gather the groceries on Nya's list.
He turned to meet the lovely boy staring back at him. People always said the twins were lovely like their parents. Nya possessed their father's charcoal black hair and their mother's ocean blue eyes. Her brother had their mother's brown hair, even though his hair was a lighter shade, and he had his father's burning amber eyes. Lloyd may have been young but Kai could already he was going to become a handsome young man. Kai was fully aware of his appearance and what others thought of him.
But in his mind and his normal standards, he wasn't beautiful or even handsome.
To be beautiful you had to be tall and lean like his mother or Nya, and you had to have a perfect tan and look like prince charming. Compared to Kai, Nya was a gorgeous princess and Lloyd was an angel, while Kai looked more like a damsel in distress masquerading as a boy. Yet while Kai didn't see the beauty in his appearance, everyone else in the town saw nothing but his fair facade. They made no attempt to look behind it and considered him odd, peculiar, and strange.
Though he couldn't care less what others thought of him, it saddened and frustrated the fiery teen to no end, not one in town could accept him for who he was.
"Kai?" A sweet voice broke the older teen from his thoughts, and he diverted his attention from his reflection to his worried little brother, holding two large paper bags of already paid for food. "You okay?"
"I'm fine bro," He smiled, "Just lost in my thoughts." He replied following his reflection until the glass faded into the wood, they continued on their way...
Alright, y’all, it’s time for me to get to the second half of Where Your Eyes Linger. I am anticipating that it’s going to make me feel even MORE things than the first half, because that’s just what these BL dramas like to do to my poor fragile heart. If you remember we left off with Tae-joo being a whiny little baby and making Kang-gook WALK HOME because he got jealous of the date he made Kang-gook go in the first place.
Let’s see if this idiot can get his shit together. (I’m thinking no.)
EPISODE FIVE:
Okay, he has immediately regretted his decision and told the driver to turn around. There may be hope for him yet!
He’s mad... at Kang-gook... for walking home... after he told him to walk home?! Boy!
Kang-gook may love this boy but he is also tired of his shit.
Okay okay okay. We’re starting to reflect and look at our actions. This is good! This is progress! I’m proud of you, Tae-joo. 👍
So they’re in the same bed again. They definitely sleep this way every night. WHY?! What is the heterosexual explanation for this? There is none. Everyone knows there is none. Except Tae-joo. He thinks this is normal. It's not normal, Tae-joo.
That’s the second time he’s mentioned his mom! Okay, I’ve now gone from wanting to smack Tae-joo upside the head to wanting to cuddle him until he feels better. Kang-gook... go cuddle him until he feels better!
Kang-gook, you won’t even let him cuddle when he’s missing his mom!?
“I’m sad.” BABY!! SOMEONE TAKE CARE OF THIS BOY!
Oh thank goodness. Finally my precious child gets a cuddle. (But it hurt Kang-gook a little to do it and that makes ME sad!)
Okay, I really adore Hyemi. She is so awkward and precious.
HA! ‘You have a bad personality.’ I love her so much.
This is the weirdest game of dodgeball I’ve ever seen. In America we use like 20 balls and it’s like a medieval war zone with people dying left and right. This is so... tame and polite.
Tae-joo is jealous again...
I love how they’re both fighting for a spot behind Kang-gook. Like, guys, he’s built like a bear, there’s room for you both!
Ooooooh! The betrayal!!!! 😲
And then Hyemi just runs! Good choice. Good choice.
This whole conversation hurts.
Kang-gook, that is not what he wants and you know it! You’ve been repressing your own feelings for so long, now Tae-joo is staring at you like THAT and you want to spar? You are both so useless.
The episode ends THERE?!?!!!!
Where’s the ‘NEXT’ button?!
EPISODE SIX:
Oh shit! That is the WRONG person to have see them. I don’t know what’s going on with this guy, but I don’t like him!
Okay, but now he’s trying to stop Hyemi from seeing them. Is he protecting them, or her? Either way it’s kind of sweet. Is he going to make me like him?
Bonding over disliking Tae-joo. I can get behind this. (Look, I like Tae-joo, really, especially since that ‘hug me, I’m sad’ moment. But he’s arrogant and selfish. He needs people in his life who are willing to tell him that.)
Kang-gook has been in love with Tae-joo for how long? And now he finally gets the opportunity to kiss him and he just...shoves him away. Damn your sense of propriety, boy!
WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT EPISODE TITLE?!!!?!!!!!! I don’t like it!!!!!!!
But Kang-gook is very cute pulling Tae-joo around by the wrist like a naughty toddler.
Aaaand Tae-joo is being a pouty baby again.
Oof, Tae-joo is throwing Kang-gook’s words back at him.
‘If we talk about this, we can’t do this for life.’ Oh no! Kang-gook is so worried about losing him. This is not the way to fix it though!
Oh! I did not see a confession coming just like that!
Kang-gook, baby, no! I don’t think he’s acting like this because he sees you as a parental figure/care-giver. That is NOT what this is about.
“I can live without you, you can’t.’ FIRST OF ALL, NO! Second of all, HOW DARE YOU! Kang-gook, what what WHAT are you doing?!!! Why are you trying to hurt him?!
KANG-GOOK WTF?!?!!!!
This hurts and I don’t like it!!! Kang-gook, what have you done?! He’s crying, you’re crying, he’s telling you to leave! SAY SIKE RIGHT NOW!! 😢
Okay, if Kang-gook wasn’t already in love with Tae-joo (even if he’s being an ASS about it!!) he and Hyemi would actually be really cute together. Her little doll is adorable.
‘I’m not having a hard time.’ What the fuck just happened in the gym then?!!! I’m using so many exclamation points right now and it’s all your fault. Not having a hard time. Go apologize to the man you love right now!
He bought Tae-joo chocolate milk. I can’t.
OH SHIT! What happened at the house?!
There is no fucking rest here. NEXT NEXT NEXT!
EPISODE SEVEN:
Okay, so we picked up a few minutes before Kang-gook gets home to the house that has been - what, broken into? Robbed? Worse?! Where is Tae-joo?!!! - and Kang-gook says they just have to make up like they always have before. BOY! You told him the happiest you’ve ever been was when he was IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY! How do you ‘just make up’ from that! Uhg! Boys are so dumb. 😤
Oh god, I was right! Tae-joo is gone!!!!
Kang-gook sounds so scared and lost!
Oh, that bastard! He told on them?!
Oh. Oh no. He was spying on them to protect his dad?
As if I didn’t hate Tae-joo’s dad already, now I just want to stab him in the face with something dull and rusty!
Aww, come on. I get why Kang-gook is mad, but honestly I feel sorry for this guy. Not only did Tae-joo steal 3 of his girlfriends, but then he was forced to spy on them and tell their secrets in order to protect his family. This guy is not a bad guy, he’s in the same boat they are, being controlled by the chairman. Poor thing.
Nooo! Baby, you’re not trash! You didn’t have a choice! Oh gosh, this guy (whose name I can’t freaking remember even though it was literally JUST on my screen) is now part of the ‘I will protect you, you sweet small bean’ club. It includes Tae-joo, Hyemi, and now this guy. Kang-gook WAS on that list, but he got kicked off when he was mean to Tae-joo.
Oh god. Tae-joo just kneeling there in front of his father and his lackeys... he looks so small and vulnerable! 🥺
Not only is he begging his father not to hurt the man he loves, but he also thinks he’s the only one that feels that way and my heart is CRYING!
There’s that ‘do whatever you want to me but don’t hurt the people I love’ thing again. He knows he’s in trouble, he looks so scared and alone, but damn it if he isn’t going to protect his mother, even if she’s gone. This boy!
Oh! The look on Tae-joo’s face when Kang-gook arrived! He really didn’t think he’d come.
He’s really just going to do this, huh? Take on all these people to get to Tae-joo while monologueing about how he doesn’t want to be separated from him. It’s okay. I didn’t need my heart anyway!
Oh god! That eye-contact through the window! Tae-joo looks so heartbroken watching Kang-gook get hurt!
And Kang-gook finally realizing what he feels is love while he’s bleeding on the ground, tears in his eyes while he looks at the person he has spent his whole life devoted to!
He can’t keep his eyes of Tae-joo! My heart!!!
This. Is too much. To handle.
EPISODE EIGHT:
Oh god! He went through all of that for five minutes with Tae-joo! What, to say goodbye?! No!
I want to murder this asshole and feed him to wild dogs! Stop hurting my baby! 😡 (Kang-gook is officially back on the small bean protection squad!)
The look on Tae-joo’s face as he watches Kang-gook get beaten for him! 😢
No! Don’t go to England! Tae-joo, don’t give your father what he wants!
He sounds so broken and sad and alone. My baby!
He’s asking for one more night with Kang-gook before he goes... 😫
And now it’s Tae-joo’s turn to take care of Kang-gook. I can’t.
Everything about this hurts. Kang-gook finally confessing his feelings in return, Tae-joo refusing to kiss Kang-gook (why Tae-joo? because it would be too hard to live with the knowledge of his kiss when you know you’re leaving?).
‘My dream is to live happily, and I’m happiest when I’m with you.’
That... is the most romantic line... ever. He doesn’t want money, or power, or any of this things his father wants him to have. He just wants to be happy, and Kang-gook is his happiness. I’m just...........
Noooo! He doesn’t even say goodbye one last time?! He just leaves when he thinks Kang-gook is sleeping?!
Kang-gook’s just waiting for him to come back but he DOESN’T! 😭
What... is happening? What is going on? I’m very confused. There was a strange scene at the end of the last episode that I thought was, like... a preview for this one... but now Kang-gook is leaving the Choi’s restaurant. When did he start working there in the first place? I’m very confused. (Also... I’m sorry... that yellow sweater... is awful on him. Like... it’s so bad? And that hair cut... is so bad. This whole look on him is not good. Not good.)
Wait... are Hyemi and the not-bad-guy dating? Okay, that’s kind of cute.
Oh, ouch. Hyemi’s mom is brutal.
Aaw, and him and Kang-gook are friends now. That’s cute. But also confusing! How long has it been since Tae-joo left? It JUST happened, but everything’s changed, so time must have passed. Did I miss something?
Kang-gook: *beats the crap out of 3 trained bodyguards* Mrs. Choi: our Gook-y is so weak and frail!
Oh now they tell us! Three years?! I am not okay with this! Going to Japan to FORGET Tae-joo? I’m REALLY not okay with this! 😟
Oh god, he looks so much better this way. The blazer, the hair... so much better!
Seriously, he looks like a completely different person. He’s a very attractive man. That restaurant look was just.. so not good for him.
Oh!
Tae-joo came back for him just like he promised!!!
Haha! Yes, Tae-joo. Yes, he did get more handsome!
Yes, please run away together...
Aaaaah the ear rub! My heart! 🥰
YES! Kang-gook, get your man!
Oh gosh, is there anything better than smiling into a kiss because you’re so happy? Now I’M so happy! 💖💖💖
Okay, wow. That last episode was a damn roller coaster! This show definitely would have benefited from another hour or two to really explore a lot of these plot points, especially the three years they were apart. But I’ve read that just getting this show made in the first place was a huge success for LGBTQ+ representation in South Korea, so honestly everything this show was, was so good! So so good! (I also hear that the same production company is coming out with another one, Mr. Heart, so I’ll be looking for that one!)
Endless Love
I love her. Crimson eyes were fixed at the light that lit up his once darkened heart. Fingers perfectly intertwined together like perfect puzzle pieces. Sometimes his thumb would brush the smooth surface of her skin. Sometimes her hand would give his own a gentle, reassuring squeeze. He loved her smile. “Skitty, look!” Hazel eyes beamed at the beautiful lights of Wyndon’s famous Ferris wheel. A smile so wide that it could rival the sun, Kotone started tugging her husband towards the amusement ride. It was a Saturday night, and people and Pokémon were buzzing in various lively manners. Luckily for the couple, they were able to reach the Ferris wheel without any delay or trouble. He loved her enthusiasm. Bouncing up and down with arms now wrapped around his right arm, Kotone looked at him. “Oooh, this is gonna be so fun! It’s been a while since we’ve been so high up!” A snort couldn’t be stopped even if he tried. “You do know you have your Charizard to fly you up and that Mewtwo of yours to float you whenever you want, right?” He loved the colour of her eyes when they rolled in his gaze.
“That’s different.” Left hand casually slipped down until it was back to curling around his own. “Besides, I don’t think the authorities would appreciate seeing a wild unauthorized legendary casually hovering two humans out in public.” Arceus, she still remembered the immense pain she had to go through just to make sure her Mewtwo was able to go through customs. Never again did she want to see another document for the next 10 years. Thankfully, her darling legendary was tucked inside his Pokéball. As much as it irritated the Genetic Pokémon that he couldn’t walk freely around the city like any other Pokémon, both Mewtwo and Kotone were just glad that he could join her in their vacation. Smiles appeared so easily when it came to her. “It’d be funny to see Mewtwo fight some cops, though.” Laughter peeped through his smile to feel her playful slap on the shoulder. A silent apology was given in a form of another hand-squeeze. The two talked and joked while they waited in line for the Ferris wheel. The cold winds of Galar wasn’t unbearable, but that never stopped Silver from wrapping one arm around his petite wife. He absolutely needed no reason whatsoever to plant a kisses on the top her head too. He loved how happy she made him. --- The lights of Wyndon truly didn’t disappoint. Once safely entered inside the cargo, Kotone and Silver wasted no time to cuddle as they sat side by side. She would go on and talk about any random thing that catches her eye. He would respond and reply back with anything that either made her laugh or smile. It’s the best feeling ever. “It’s really nice, isn’t it…?” Her voice was a gentle lull inside the comfortable cargo. Left hand never letting go of his right, Kotone pressed her free hand against the thick glass. Lights of pink, blue, red, and purple livened the majestic city. There were some big balloons seen tied and hovered under the starry sky. From afar, she could see Wyndon stadium. It was then that her mind clicked about the famous Champion Cup that happens every year. It was a shame that the sport’s event was only applicable to Galarian trainers and that it only happened from February to May. And she wasn’t Galarian. And it was already June when she finally arrived in Galar. “You do know that even if you entered, you’ll just end up sweeping the whole challenge, right?” Surprise brought her back to realize at his statement. Lower lip jutted slightly—just the slightest—as she looked at him. A cheeky smirk curled those luscious lips. Blush peppered each cheek knowing that he read her mind so well without her uttering a single word. “Well…” A little pout formed her pretty pink lips. “You don’t know that. I heard their Champion is insanely unstoppable. I mean, I’ve battled some super strong trainers before.” Her mind brought her the images of the silent trainer she encountered at Mt Silver as well as the Hero of Truth that resides in Unova. “It would be fun to see what sort of Champion Galar has to offer, no?” Kotone had a point. As much as they came her for a little getaway, even Silver couldn’t deny the curiosity he had about the Galarian Champion. The Glorious Champion. The Hero of Galar. The Royal Hero Who Vanquished the Second Darkest Day. At least…that’s what Silver had heard about her. Arceus knows what kind of bullshit the Galarian Champion had went through to obtain such titles. Silver eyes gazed at the brilliant gleam of darling hazels. If it’s anything like what both Kotone and Silver had went through when they were teenagers… An unnerving shiver crept up his spine. “Silver, you okay?” A smile trembled the corners of his lips. “Yeah…just…” He released a small sigh. “Thinking about the things we went through.” She understood him. A small smile mirrored his own. “We’re here now.” She gave his hand a squeeze. “We’re alive. We’re together.” Scooting closer to him—as if they weren’t close enough already—Kotone brought his hand up and kissed the back of it. “I love you.” Arceus, he loved her so much. “I love you too…” He kissed her forehead, then slowly traced down to the cute tip of her nose. “So much…” Gaze filled with warmth that could melt her heart into puddle, Silver gently tipped her chin. “So very…” Chu… “Very much…” Kisses feathered her plump lips at every unrestrained emotion. Her smile became honest. Became shaky. “Geez…” Face now reflected the dazzling colour of his hair. Kotone cupped her face with both hands. How easily he laughed now because of her. “Are you really embarrassed right now to look at your handsome husband?” Smile back to that cocky grin of his, Silver lowered his head to meet her gaze. She didn’t lower her hands. But he did hear a cute, “Humph…” Fuck, he was so in love with her. Very thankful that they were so high up right now, Silver gave no hesitance in wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her up. That definitely made her hands go down. “Waah—Silver!” Plop! Her butt rested comfortably on his lap. Shock and embarrassment giving a nice splash of colour on her cheeks and ears, Kotone tried her best to look angry as she looked at him. Tried. Chup! Shock once again took reign as she felt the lips she adored so much pressing so perfectly against hers. His arms were locked neatly around her waist. “I love you…” That sincere smile back in its place, Silver continued his kissing adventure by moving to her left cheek, her neck, her shoulder, then back to her pouting lips. Ah, he was insufferable. Forever giving in to his bold advances, Kotone returned his kisses with a long, sweet, sighing kiss to his smiling mouth. “I love you too, you naughty Skitty.” Hands cupping his warm cheeks, Kotone kissed the tip of his nose. She always loved his laugh. --- It shouldn’t be a wonder to see so many couples tonight. And yet, Gloria didn’t know why a certain couple caught her attention at the moment. They were a couple of adults. Around their late 20s or early 30s, Gloria assumed. The woman looked absolutely adorable in her low pigtails and white beret. The man beside her was a sight for sore eyes indeed. Never had she seen hair so devilishly red, and she once dyed her hair red herself. It was seen tied to a low ponytail, and his clear-cut face was an absolute picture if he were able to pull off such a simple look. Clearly the two weren’t from Galar. It wasn’t unusual for Galar to accept tourists at this time of year. But it was definitely something for Gloria to see such a couple that sparked such…an intimidatingly lovely radiance. That, and the fact that the woman’s arm was all too happily hugging the man’s left arm. That’s sweet… So sweet, she added. Oh to be in love no matter how old you are— “What are you staring at?” Thoughts crashed against a wall to hear his voice. Quickly she looked to her side, only to have her head tilted upwards slightly to see the tall man. Confusion and irritation masked such a beautiful face. “You’re spacing out.” One finger gently poked her forehead. “If I didn’t call out for you, I bet I could see your soul casually slip out and wander off.” Arceus, she was so cute when she puffed her cheeks. “I wasn’t spacing out.” Never one to say much, Gloria pushed a few strands of her hand behind her ear. Crimson eyes stared at the area around them, silently trying to spot the mysterious couple. But alas, they were gone in a sea of lively crowds. Unbeknownst to her, Bede never liked to be ignored. “Seriously, what caught your attention?” He leaned to where she was staring. Curiosity now sated his mind, the Gym Leader looked around but found nothing. She opened her mouth, the pure intention of wanting to explain what she saw remained in her mind. But all that was thrown out the window when he turned his head to face her as well—which in the end resulted with their noses brushing each other. “Ah—” was all she peeped. “I—!” was all he sputtered. Quickly both straightened and took a single step back. Pink puffed their cheeks at the simple physical contact. Luckily Gloria had her glasses to use as an excuse to hide her shame. Bede was just as lucky to have brought his red scarf tonight and already had it wrapped around his neck. Shit, it smelled like her since she just wore it 10 minutes ago. Ah, he was sure his face was growing pinker. “A-Anyways…” he flustered, then took a deep breath to keep himself together. “We should—we should go. We should be quick if we want to go to that dessert café you love so much.” Curse her face for getting warmer. “Okay…” Cheeks cupped by cold hands, Gloria managed a nod. Signalling the single action as approval, Bede spun his heel and began walking— “Wait.” The crunch of snow hit the sole of his boot at the meek sound of her voice. Without a word, Bede turned around, a single eyebrow raised in confusion at the woman still standing in one place. “Gloria?” Concern now dripped out of pink lips, he turned to face her again. “What’s wrong? Aren’t you hung…ry…?” The last question slurred to a gape when his gaze dropped to her outstretched hand. “Hand…” Violet eyes widened at her waiting palm, then at her. She was as red as her irises. “I want…” A deep breath was pushed out of suddenly heavy lungs. “I want…” The shine of her glasses hid such a sheepish expression. “Can we—h-hands…” Ah fuck her for failing a simple sentence right now— Shoulders actually flinched to feel her right hand being held. Immediately she looked up, glasses almost thrown off her face to see the tall Gym Leader. Oh how glad she was to know he was just as embarrassed as her. Violet eyes never met the pair of dazzling crimsons. “Come on…” Voice actually quieter than hers, Bede gently pulled her close. Fingers curled lovingly around hers. The grip felt shaky, then firm. Without another word, Bede patiently signalled her to walk. Side by side. With their hands intertwined together. Baffled was an emotion the Champion rarely felt in battles, but an emotion she definitely felt around him. She then remembered the happy couple. Gloria didn’t know why, but a smile shakily curled upwards, so bright and so ecstatic at the thought that maybe, just maybe, one day she and Bede would be just as happy as them. It was Bede’s turn to flinch when he felt his left arm being hugged. Luckily they kept moving, but he never tore his gaze away from her for a while. She still held his hand, but was now wrapping his arm with her other hand. Though her height prevented him from seeing her face clearly, Bede could see the hints of red on the tips of her ears. She was excruciatingly adorable. Blowing out a sigh—a sigh so shaky he feared it couldn’t hide the indescribable happiness he felt right now—Bede gave her hand a playful squeeze. I love her. END
The Softest Fire (Part 27)
Prompt: Rosaline Vaughan had it all: fame, money, power, glory, a high status job. Until, one day, she woke up, and realized something was missing from her life.
Word Count: 3361
Warnings: fight/violence/near death
Notes: First Fantastic Beast fic! I could NOT have done this at all without @arrow-guy. They have created a counterpart to this fic, writing it from Nora Vaughan’s perspective (Rosaline’s cousin/adopted sister). Fic aesthetic done by @mrs-dragneel-stark-solo.
Nora was better. She decided to make an announcement that they were going to merge curse-breaking with the Ministry. I was at the press conference in the crowd to support her, Newt by my side. Theseus and her made the announcement with a handful of others from the Ministry and two other curse breakers in the world.
My time at Hogwarts came to a close roughly two weeks ago. I’d moved in next to Newt’s flat. Not in the same building, but the one next door. It happened shortly after Nora returned. I felt she needed the space back, so she wouldn’t feel as though she was mothering me any more. It also gave her the chance for Theseus to move in, should they act on it.
When things ended for me at Hogwarts, the question on many people’s minds was if I’d return. Children gave me gifts and cards, begging me to come back and teach. The other professors gave me words of encouragement, but they know I’d been through some ordeals in the last few years, so they simply said they would love to have me return and left it at that.
Even I didn’t know what I wanted to do. So, instead of seeking sage counsel from Nora as I normally would, I gave her a break and went to the new source of advice in my life.
I sat in Newt’s flat during lunch time as he took a break from caring for the animals. His sleeves were rolled up, but they were still covered with wetness and muck.
“I’ve been thinking,” I began, a bit unsure.
“Oh? About what?” he asked beside me on the sofa.
“My career,” I said, my tone serious and loaded. “I love working at Hogwarts…”
“Alright,” he said, dragging the word out. “Is there something that’s wrong with that?”
“Not wrong, per se, but it does beg the question about where I am to go next. I have been searching my heart for an answer and I just can’t decide. I love Hogwarts. I love working with Albus, seeing the children, having knowledge at my fingertips. The children keep me on my toes. But, if I made it full time, that would mean I was away from you for roughly ten months out of the year. We’d be forced to all those weekend visits. At the same time though, I loved working with you. These creatures gave me purpose. Working with you, traveling with you felt like I was giving something back in the world, helping helpless creatures, keeping them safe.”
“So come back to work with me,” he offered. “I still need an assistant.”
I nodded, biting my lip. “I know, and I love the work, but part of me is quite practical.”
“Yes, I know,” he said, as if that didn’t make a difference.
Toying with my lips even more, I said, “Well, as much as I do adore working with you, if we are to remain… steady, then I need my own income. I don’t think it’s wise for us to rely on the same income.”
Newt nodded, but I felt I’d hurt his feelings.
“Please, don’t think I mean any disrespect. You know I adore your work, our work together. I think what you do is absolutely vital and noble. But I don’t think it’s safe to rely on possible book deals popping up.”
“That’s...understandable. Although I always want you to reconsider. You always have a place here as my partner.”
I teared up at his words. “Partner sounds more than lovely.” I took his hands in mine. “I have been thinking and… I think I know a solution. It will keep me local to you, it will help me give back, and I can have my own source of income.”
“That sounds fantastic! What is it?”
I held my breath, trying to find the courage to say it. I hoped he would support me, but he might think I was absolutely bonkers.
“I’d like to run for Minister for Magic,” I said evenly.
His eyes went wide as his eyebrows shot up. “Really? Wow, that is um, exciting. What made you think of this?”
“Well, I know I didn’t want it back when I first came to you, but I’m wiser now. I was afraid of being corrupt or not giving back properly, but life experience has changed all that. I’m stronger now. I know how to hold off the Dark Arts. I know how they work. I know things the magic world needs and things it doesn’t.”
“That is true,” he agreed.
I sat there, ready to burst. I had no idea if he supported me or not.
“So? Do you think I should do it? Do I have your support?”
He glanced at me. “Of course you have my support. You have my support to do anything you set your mind to, Rosaline. No matter what. You’ll do every job wonderfully. I’m sure of that.”
I smiled at him. “Really?”
“Of course.”
“You’re not disappointed? Going to call me a cold bureaucrat?” I asked, nervous.
“No, not in the slightest. If anyone should do that job, deserves that job, or is more fit for a job, it’s you. I’d be proud to see you take that title.” He gave me a warm smile and I nearly melted into his arms.
---------------------------------
I went to the Ministry just a few days later, both applying for the position and holding a press conference of my own to announce my decision.
“And so it is with great pride and confidence that I, Rosaline Vaughan, announce to the great magical world, that I will be running for Minister For Magic once more,” I spoke into the microphone. My eyes flashed to Newt’s who was standing in the first row. Theseus was beside him. The two of them were smiling and clapping, as was the rest of the crowd. Nora was off tending to a small curse breaking job, and I didn’t have the chance to tell her.
The press swirled around me for quite some time, asking many questions and people offered to run my campaign, shoving their cards in my hands. Photo after photo was snapped. Finally though, I set off.
Newt and I walked hand in hand outside of the Ministry. I felt alive, empowered, confident. Until I noticed the streets looked odd. There were no passerbys, no cars, no one. A dead streat.
Except for something out of the corner of my right eye.
“Rosaline, running for Minister? What a naughty move... If I didn't know any better, I'd say this was a threat to me, but I know you're smarter than that," the voice sent a chill down my spine.
I turned to face the voice, the reason for my nightmares. There, several feet down the middle of the deserted road, was Gellert Grindelwald, flanked on both sides of him with six confidants. Of course, I recognized Vinda, Creedence, and Abernathy. The other three, I did not know.
“Gellert. I would say it’s lovely to see you again, but, I’d be lying and I was raised not to lie.” I stared him down.
“What a pity. I thought you might like seeing me again. After all, we were lovers, soon to be wed. More than I can say for your zookeeper here.” He gestured to Newt and I didn’t respond. I knew he wanted anger, or for me to glance to Newt, or to defend him. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
“What do you want, Grindelwald?” I called back.
“I want you to call off your campaign.”
“Why would I do that?”
“Because, my dear, you know far too much about me and with you in the position of Minister…” He made a face of faux sympathy. “Well, I’m sorry, but that just wouldn’t work out in my favor, and we can’t have that.”
A few moments later, aurors began to slowly step out into the street. I raised my hand slightly, signaling for them to stay back.
“I’m going to have to disappoint you. I will not step down, I will not back down, certainly not to the likes of you.”
He gave an almost laugh, and his followers joined in with a smirk. “You think you can beat me? Darling, you beat my last spell but all that did was land you in my bed, nearly becoming my wife. What makes you think this will turn out any differently?”
“Because I know things about you now. I know how you think and as unfortunate as that experience was, it wasn’t experience wasted.”
“Shame. Because your power as a witch will be wasted, when I’m through killing you.”
He raised his wand but I expected the oncoming blow so I casted a nonverbal multi-shot jinx, knocking back the six of his comrades. By the time he brought down his wand, they were on their backs, moaning, but he kept moving.
Water from a nearby river swirled quickly over my head and I raised my wand to deflect the oncoming attack but it was too late. The water had enveloped me, forming a sphere around me. I couldn’t breathe. I was going to drown if I didn’t get this ball of water off of my body. Either the water would invade my lungs or Grindelwald’s force he was applying would crush my body.
I thought hard and quickly. I saw through the water that the six followers were starting to stand. Newt wouldn’t stand a chance against all seven of them. I tried to raise my arms to claw out of it but the water continued to morph around me, suffocating me.
Finally, I flicked my wand towards Gellert, using Impedimenta to get him to drop his wand and hand. It worked, and I fell to the ground, gasping for air. I didn’t have time to waste. I stood up and casted firestorm at the six followers, keeping them in their place. Following that, I casted expelliarmus at the lot of them, making wands fly at my hands. Using the banishing spell, I sent the wands towards the aurors for safe keeping.
Grindelwald took the moment I was distracted to throw a crucio curse my way but I used Protego to rebound it. It wasn’t effective as the hex was too powerful to rebound, but at least I got it to deflect away from me.
He casted shot after shot at me, forcing me to either deflect or rebound them until I finally casted Everte Statum at him. He deflected it though, sending it back to me, but I jumped out of the way.
I tried to send a confundo charm at him, but he blocked it. I followed it up with stupefy but all we were doing was dancing around each other's charms. We did this for several minutes. It appeared it was a draw, but I couldn’t give up. If Grindelwald won, there would be virtually no one to stop him.
Newt began in on Grindelwald as well, casting Everte Statum on him, sending Grindelwald back. He didn’t expect the attack, so Newt had the advantage. In his stunned moment, I casted Glacius Duo at him, casting him in ice.
I ran to Newt, my hands fawning all over him. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, Rosaline. Just fi--” His eyes went wide as he looked over my shoulder so I spun to see what had him startled.
Grindelwald had broken from the ice. He was standing before me, his eyes lit with fire.
I raised my wand but he was invariably faster.
The moment I saw his wand and eyes were aimed at Newt and not me, time slowed down. I saw a spark of green cast out of Grindelwald’s wand.
Avada Kedavra
I had no time to lose. I raised my wand and cast a banishing spell at Newt, sending him flying into one of the windows of the stores across the street. It might’ve hurt, but at least he was safe.
In the split second he went flying, I gathered a ball of light quickly and casted it out from me, causing an explosion to occur up and down the street. Every window, every glass, shattered and I sent every shard straight for Grindelwald using the oppugno jinx. He protected himself with a shield charm, every shard falling away from him.
The two of us locked eyes as soon as the shards were done falling before we casted curses on each other. Our wands locked on contact, the spells connecting before suddenly, the beam of light between us wasn’t one color or the other. Rather, it was one gold beam.
Priori Incantatem
I’d studied this effect before. It was rare, but possible. It meant that it was down to the will power of Grindelwald and myself. Our wands had the same core. I’d forgotten he had the Elder Wand in his possession.
My wand felt as if it would explode in my hand, but I couldn’t let go. My heart hammered in my chest. I could hear nothing but a roaring in my ears as echoes of the last spells spilled out around us in a golden cage. No one from the outside could reach us.
If I lost, if I let up, if I let him get the upper hand in any way, I’d surely die. He would cast the killing curse on me and not think twice, and it would only follow with killing Newt and possibly Theseus.
I couldn’t let that happen.
Images began to flicker in my head. I remembered Grindelwald inflicting the crucio curse on Newt in front of me. I remember Newt telling me that Grindelwald almost killed him twice in New York. He nearly killed him in Paris. And he also forced me to attack Newt, ordering me to kill him.
Five times he’d preyed upon Newt’s life. He’d attacked Nora, Theseus. He killed muggles and wizards alike. There was no stopping him. He didn’t think twice before ending someone’s life, it didn’t matter whose it was. He would've ended mine had I not been some form of asset to him.
Suddenly, my rage boiled inside me. He’d caused the world to live in fear, to live in peril. He nearly killed the one person I’d ever loved. He didn’t deserve to get away with this.
This ended now.
I took a step forward, my energy, all my will power, all my anger, all my fear, all my frustration flowed into my wand. Every word of encouragement and confidence thrust upon me came flooding to the forefront of my mind and trickled into my hands. I grabbed my wand with both hands, moving forward ever so slightly.
Grindelwald looked up in surprise and for the first time I’d ever seen -- fear.
Finally, his wand flew from his hand, breaking our connection and the gold cage. He stared at me with total shock. He raised his hand to perform a non-verbal spell but I was quicker. I quickly casted Petrificus Totalus and Incarcerous.
He was forced to his knees before me as ropes wrapped themselves around him.
“Aurors!” I called back to the witnessing crowd. “You have a criminal that I believe needs apprehending.”
“Quite the show, Ms. Vaughan. I must say I’m impressed. I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“You nearly killed Newt five times. I’m not like Albus, Gellert, I don’t reason with people -- I stop them.”
“I’d heard you were working with him,” he informed.
“Yes. He asked me to destroy your blood pact.”
“Were you successful?”
“Not yet, so don’t think you can break out of prison to have him killed.” I flashed a smile full of malice just as the aurors came up, all of their wands at the ready to take him into custody. “But, I did ask him to tell me all your weaknesses. I thought it might come in handy, should you ever try to attack me.”
He looked down, as if he should’ve seen it coming. A bit of an amused smile came across his face.
“You should’ve just killed me, Gellert.
“And waste such a talented witch? No. I’ll live in your memory forever now.” He flashed me a proud smirk as they hauled him to his feet.
I nodded. “You will,” I agreed “as the most evil Dark Wizard I’ve had the pleasure to stop.”
As they walked him by, he stared at me with what I could only discern as a begrudging respect. Once he was out of sight, I finally relaxed. Theseus rushed up to me.
“Are you okay? That was… that was quite something.”
I nodded, taking a breath. “I’m alright. Where is Newt? Is he okay?” I turned, panicked that I’d hurt him worse than I intended. Just as I spun however, he was standing there before me, holding a wand. “Is that his?” I asked, despite knowing the answer.
He bobbed his head. “It’s yours now I suppose. Unless, Theseus, the Ministry will have some objection to this?” He glanced over to his brother.
Theseus shook his head, almost laughing. “No, no, by all means, Rosaline won it fair and square. I prefer it in her hands over the Ministry’s.”
I thanked him and he thanked me before going inside.
Newt looked at me curiously before I laughed and inquired, “What? What are you looking at me like that for?”
“You’re truly amazing, you know that?”
“I suppose I am,” I agreed proudly.
“I thought I lost you,” he breathed, staring at me.
“I know,” I admitted. “I thought I lost myself too. As soon as that water came around me, I thought I was done for. Then he casted the killing curse at you…”
“When your wands connected, I didn’t know what to do. I wanted to protect you so badly but I didn’t want to get in the way either.”
I reached up, cupping his face. “You could never be in the way. In fact, today, your attack on him distracted him long enough for me to get the upper hand. I was sure I was as good dead there for a few moments before that. So thank you, for saving my life.”
“It’s the least I can do. You’ve saved mine on numerous occasions while we were capturing animals.”
“I’ll always do everything I can to protect you, Newt. Always. I can’t live without you.”
“Nor I you,” he agreed.
“I was ready to step in front of that curse for you, but I knew that I was the best hope for stopping him, so I couldn’t do that. I’m sorry if my spell hurt you by the way.”
He shook his head. “Quite all right. Just a little bruised, but not bad for interfering with a duel between the two greatest wizards of our time.”
I gave him a half smile before putting my hand on his shoulder and concentrating. A nonverbal spell spilled out of me and I lifted my hand.
“Feel better?” I asked.
“Much. What did you do?”
“A simple healing spell. I actually learned it from Grindelwald.” I smirked, amused at the irony.
“Will you ever stop impressing me?” Newt wondered as he stared into my eyes.
“I hope I never do,” I replied.
“Me too,” he admitted. “Now, we should get you home. You have a campaign to plan and some resting to do. You’ve far more than earned it.”
“Ah, yes, and we should probably tell Nora about my decision to run for Minister,” I insisted as I put my arm through his. The aurors began reconstructing the street as we walked.
“I’ll be sure to mention that, and the fact that you just won the greatest wizarding duel.”
“Yes, but that will overshadow my decision to run, so be sure you lead with the campaign first,” I encouraged.
Newt glanced at me before smiling keenly. “Yes, quite right.”
The two of us laughed before I rested my head on his shoulder, walking along beside him happily, more free and weightless than I’d ever felt.
When Pedro Pascal was roughly 4 years old, he and his family went to see the 1978 hit movie “Superman,” starring Christopher Reeve. Pascal’s young parents had come to live in San Antonio after fleeing their native Chile during the rise of dictator Augusto Pinochet in the mid-1970s. Taking Pascal and his older sister to the movies — sometimes more than once a week — had become a kind of family ritual, a way to soak up as much American pop culture as possible.At some point during this particular visit, Pascal needed to go to the bathroom, and his parents let him go by himself. “I didn’t really know how to read yet,” Pascal says with the same Cheshire grin that dazzled “Game of Thrones” fans during his run as the wily (and doomed) Oberyn Martel. “I did not find my way back to ‘Superman.'”
Instead, Pascal wandered into a different theater (he thinks it was showing the 1979 domestic drama “Kramer vs. Kramer,” but, again, he was 4). In his shock and bewilderment at being lost, he curled up into an open seat and fell asleep. When he woke up, the movie was over, the theater was empty, and his parents were standing over him. To his surprise, they seemed rather calm, but another detail sticks out even more.
“I know that they finished their movie,” he says, bending over in laughter. “My sister was trying to get a rise out of me by telling me, ‘This happened and that happened and then Superman did this and then, you know, the earthquake and spinning around the planet.'” In the face of such relentless sibling mockery, Pascal did the only logical thing: “I said, ‘All that happened in my movie too.'”
He had no way of knowing it at the time, of course, but some 40 years later, Pascal would in fact get the chance to star in a movie alongside a DC Comics superhero — not to mention battle Stormtroopers and, er, face off against the most formidable warrior in Westeros. After his breakout on “Game of Thrones,” he became an instant get-me-that-guy sensation, mostly as headstrong, taciturn men of action — from chasing drug traffickers in Colombia for three seasons on Netflix’s “Narcos” to squaring off against Denzel Washington in “The Equalizer 2.”
This year, though, Pascal finds himself poised for the kind of marquee career he’s spent a lifetime dreaming about. On Oct. 30, he’ll return for Season 2 as the title star of “The Mandalorian,” Lucasfilm’s light-speed hit “Star Wars” series for Disney Plus that earned 15 Emmy nominations, including best drama, in its first season. And then on Dec. 25 — COVID-19 depending — he’ll play the slippery comic book villain Maxwell Lord opposite Gal Gadot, Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig in “Wonder Woman 1984.”
The roles are at once wildly divergent and the best showcase yet for Pascal’s elastic talents. In “The Mandalorian,” he must hide his face — and, in some episodes, his whole body — in a performance that pushes minimalism and restraint to an almost ascetic ideal. In “Wonder Woman 1984,” by stark contrast, he is delivering the kind of big, broad bad-guy character that populated the 1980s popcorn spectaculars of his youth.
“I continually am so surprised when everybody pegs him as such a serious guy,” says “Wonder Woman 1984” director Patty Jenkins. “I have to say, Pedro is one of the most appealing people I have known. He instantly becomes someone that everybody invites over and you want to have around and you want to talk to.”
Talk with Pascal for just five minutes — even when he’s stuck in his car because he ran out of time running errands before his flight to make it to the set of a Nicolas Cage movie in Budapest — and you get an immediate sense of what Jenkins is talking about. Before our interview really starts, Pascal points out, via Zoom, that my dog is licking his nether regions in the background. “Don’t stop him!” he says with an almost naughty reproach. “Let him live his life!”
Over our three such conversations, it’s also clear that Pascal’s great good humor and charm have been at once ballast for a number of striking hardships, and a bulwark that makes his hard-won success a challenge for him to fully accept.
Before Pascal knew anything about “The Mandalorian,” its showrunner and executive producer Jon Favreau knew he wanted Pascal to star in it.
“He feels very much like a classic movie star in his charm and his delivery,” says Favreau. “And he’s somebody who takes his craft very seriously.” Favreau felt Pascal had the presence and skill essential to deliver a character — named Din Djarin, but mostly called Mando — who spends virtually every second of his time on screen wearing a helmet, part of the sacrosanct creed of the Mandalorian order.
Convincing any actor to hide their face for the run of a series can be as precarious as escaping a Sarlacc pit. To win Pascal over in their initial meeting, Favreau brought him behind the “Mandalorian” curtain, into a conference room papered with storyboards covering the arc of the first season. “When he walked in, it must have felt a little surreal,” Favreau says. “You know, most of your experiences as an actor, people are kicking the tires to see if it’s a good fit. But in this case, everything was locked and loaded.”
Needless to say, it worked. “I hope this doesn’t sound like me fashioning myself like I’m, you know, so smart, but I agreed to do this [show] because the impression I had when I had my first meeting was that this is the next big s—,” Pascal says with a laugh.
Favreau’s determination to cast Pascal, however, put the actor in a tricky situation: Pascal’s own commitments to make “Wonder Woman 1984” in London and to perform in a Broadway run of “King Lear” with Glenda Jackson barreled right into the production schedule for “The Mandalorian.” Some scenes on the show, and in at least one case a full episode, would need to lean on the anonymity of the title character more than anyone had quite planned, with two stunt performers — Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder — playing Mando on set and Pascal dubbing in the dialogue months later.
Pascal was already being asked to smother one of his best tools as an actor, extraordinarily uncommon for anyone shouldering the newest iteration of a global live-action franchise. (Imagine Robert Downey Jr. only playing Iron Man while wearing a mask — you can’t!) Now he had to hand over control of Mando’s body to other performers too. Some actors would have walked away. Pascal didn’t.
“If there were more than just a couple of pages of a one-on-one scene, I did feel uneasy about not, in some instances, being able to totally author that,” he says. “But it was so easy in such a sort of practical and unexciting way for it to be up to them. When you’re dealing with a franchise as large as this, you are such a passenger to however they’re going to carve it out. It’s just so specific. It’s ‘Star Wars.'” (For Season 2, Pascal says he was on the set far more, though he still sat out many of Mando’s stunts.)
“The Mandalorian” was indeed the next big s—, helping to catapult the launch of Disney Plus to 26.5 million subscribers in its first six weeks. With the “Star Wars” movies frozen in carbonite until 2023 (at least), I noted offhand that he’s now effectively the face of one of the biggest pop-culture franchises in the world. Pascal could barely suppress rolling his eyes.
“I mean, come on, there isn’t a face!” he says with a laugh that feels maybe a little forced. “If you want to say, ‘You’re the silhouette’ — which is also a team effort — then, yeah.” He pauses. “Can we just cut the s— and talk about the Child?”
Yes, of course, the Child — or, as the rest of the galaxy calls it, Baby Yoda. Pascal first saw the incandescently cute creature during his download of “Mandalorian” storyboards in that initial meeting with Favreau. “Literally, my eyes following left to right, up and down, and, boom, Baby Yoda close to the end of the first episode,” he says. “That was when I was like, ‘Oh, yep, that’s a winner!'”
Baby Yoda is undeniably the breakout star of “The Mandalorian,” inspiring infinite memes and apocryphal basketball game sightings. But the show wouldn’t work if audiences weren’t invested in Mando’s evolving emotional connection to the wee scene stealer, something Favreau says Pascal understood from the jump. “He’s tracking the arc of that relationship,” says the showrunner. “His insight has made us rethink moments over the course of the show.” (As with all things “Star Wars,” questions about specifics are deflected in deference to the all-powerful Galactic Order of Spoilers.)
Even if Pascal couldn’t always be inside Mando’s body, he never left the character’s head, always aware of how this orphaned bounty hunter who caroms from planet to planet would look askance at anything that felt too good (or too adorable) to be true.
“The transience is something that I’m incredibly familiar with, you know?” Pascal says. “Understanding the opportunity for complexity under all of the armor was not hard for me.”
When Pascal was 4 months old, his parents had to leave him and his sister with their aunt, so they could go into hiding to avoid capture during Pinochet’s crackdown against his opposition. After six months, they finally managed to climb the walls of the Venezuelan embassy during a shift change and claim asylum; from there, the family relocated, first to Denmark, then to San Antonio, where Pascal’s father got a job as a physician.
Pascal was too young to remember any of this, and for a healthy stretch of his childhood, his complicated Chilean heritage sat in parallel to his life in the U.S. — separate tracks, equally important, never quite intersecting. By the time Pascal was 8, his family was able to take regular trips back to Chile to visit with his 34 first cousins. But he doesn’t remember really talking about any of his time there all that much with his American friends.
“I remember at one point not even realizing that my parents had accents until a friend was like, ‘Why does your mom talk like that?'” Pascal says. “And I remember thinking, like what?”
Besides, he loved his life in San Antonio. His father took him and his sister to Spurs basketball games during the week if their homework was done. He hoodwinked his mother into letting him see “Poltergeist” at the local multiplex. He watched just about anything on cable; the HBO special of Whoopi Goldberg’s one-woman Broadway show knocked him flat. He remembers seeing Henry Thomas in “E.T.” and Christian Bale in “Empire of the Sun” and wishing ardently, urgently, I want to live those stories too.
Then his father got a job in Orange County, Calif. After Pascal finished the fifth grade, they moved there. It was a shock. “There were two really, really rough years,” he says. “A lot of bullying.”
His mother found him a nascent performing arts high school in the area, and Pascal burrowed even further into his obsessions, devouring any play or movie he could get his hands on. His senior year, a friend of his mother’s gave Pascal her ticket to a long two-part play running in downtown Los Angeles that her bad back couldn’t withstand. He got out of school early to drive there by himself. It was the pre-Broadway run of “Angels in America.”
“And it changed me,” he says with almost religious awe. “It changed me.”
After studying acting at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Pascal booked a succession of solid gigs, like MTV’s “Undressed” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” But the sudden death of his mother — who’d only just been permitted to move back to Chile a few years earlier — took the wind right from Pascal’s sails. He lost his agent, and his career stalled almost completely.
As a tribute to her, he decided to change his professional last name from Balmaceda, his father’s, to Pascal, his mother’s. “And also, because Americans had such a hard time pronouncing Balmaceda,” he says. “It was exhausting.”
Pascal even tried swapping out Pedro for Alexander (an homage to Ingmar Bergman’s “Fanny and Alexander,” one of the formative films of his youth). “I was willing to do absolutely anything to work more,” he says. “And that meant if people felt confused by who they were looking at in the casting room because his first name was Pedro, then I’ll change that. It didn’t work.”
It was a desperately lean time for Pascal. He booked an occasional “Law & Order” episode, but mostly he was pounding the pavement along with his other New York theater friends — like Oscar Isaac, who met Pascal doing an Off Broadway play. They became fast, lifelong friends, bonding over their shared passions and frustrations as actors.
“It’s gotten better, but at that point, it was so easy to be pigeonholed in very specific roles because we’re Latinos,” says Isaac. “It’s like, how many gang member roles am I going to be sent?” As with so many actors, the dream Pascal and Isaac shared to live the stories of their childhoods had been stripped down to its most basic utility. “The dream was to be able to pay rent,” says Isaac. “There wasn’t a strategy. We were just struggling. It was talking about how to do this thing that we both love but seems kind of insurmountable.”
As with so few actors, that dream was finally rekindled through sheer nerve and the luck of who you know, when another lifelong friend, actor Sarah Paulson, agreed to pass along Pascal’s audition for Oberyn Martell to her best friend Amanda Peet, who is married to “Game of Thrones” co-showrunner David Benioff.
“First of all, it was an iPhone selfie audition, which was unusual,” Benioff remembers over email. “And this wasn’t one of the new-fangled iPhones with the fancy cameras. It looked like s—; it was shot vertical; the whole thing was very amateurish. Except for the performance, which was intense and believable and just right.”
Before Pascal knew it, he found himself in Belfast, sitting inside the Great Hall of the Red Keep as one of the judges at Tyrion Lannister’s trial for the murder of King Joffrey. “I was between Charles Dance and Lena Headey, with a view of the entire f—ing set,” Pascal says, his eyes wide and astonished still at the memory. “I couldn’t believe I didn’t have an uncomfortable costume on. You know, I got to sit — and with this view.” He sighs. “It strangely aligned itself with the kind of thinking I was developing as a child that, at that point, I was convinced was not happening.”
And then it all started to happen.
In early 2018, while Pascal was in Hawaii preparing to make the Netflix thriller “Triple Frontier” — opposite his old friend Isaac — he got a call from the film’s producer Charles Roven, who told him Patty Jenkins wanted to meet with him in London to discuss a role in another film Roven was producing, “Wonder Woman 1984.”
“It was a f—ing offer,” Pascal says in an incredulous whisper. “I wasn’t really grasping that Patty wanted to talk to me about a part that I was going to play, not a part that I needed to get. I wasn’t able to totally accept that.”
Pascal had actually shot a TV pilot with Jenkins that wasn’t picked up, made right before his life-changing run on “Game of Thrones” aired. “I got to work with Patty for three days or something and then thought I’d never see her again,” he says. “I didn’t even know she remembered me from that.”
She did. “I worked with him, so I knew him,” she says. “I didn’t need him to prove anything for me. I just loved the idea of him, and I thought he would be kind of unexpected, because he doesn’t scream ‘villain.'”
In Jenkins’ vision, Max Lord — a longstanding DC Comics rogue who shares a particularly tangled history with Wonder Woman — is a slick, self-styled tycoon with a knack for manipulation and an undercurrent of genuine pathos. It was the kind of larger-than-life character Pascal had never been asked to tackle before, so he did something equally unorthodox: He transformed his script into a kind of pop-art scrapbook, filled with blown-up photocopies of Max Lord from the comic books that Pascal then manipulated through his lens on the character.
Even the few pages Pascal flashes to me over Zoom are quite revealing. One, featuring Max sporting a power suit and a smarmy grin, has several burned-out holes, including through the character’s eye. Another page features Max surrounded by text bubbles into which Pascal has written, over and over and over again in itty-bitty lettering, “You are a f—ing piece of s—.”
“I felt like I had wake myself up again in a big way,” he says. “This was just a practical way of, like, instead of going home tired and putting Netflix on, [I would] actually deal with this physical thing, doodle and think about it and run it.”
Jenkins is so bullish on Pascal’s performance that she thinks it could explode his career in the same way her 2003 film “Monster” forever changed how the industry saw Charlize Theron. “I would never cast him as just the stoic, quiet guy,” Jenkins says. “I almost think he’s unrecognizable from ‘Narcos’ to ‘Wonder Woman.’ Wouldn’t even know that was the same guy. But I think that may change.”
When people can see “Wonder Woman 1984” remains caught in the chaos the pandemic has wreaked on the industry; both Pascal and Jenkins are hopeful the Dec. 25 release date will stick, but neither is terribly sure it will. Perhaps it’s because of that uncertainty, perhaps it’s because he’s spent his life on the outside of a dream he’s now suddenly living, but Pascal does not share Jenkins’ optimism that his experience making “Wonder Woman 1984” will open doors to more opportunities like it.
“It will never happen again,” Pascal says, once more in that incredulous whisper. “It felt so special.”
After all he’s done in a few short years, why wouldn’t Pascal think more roles like this are on his horizon?
“I don’t know!” he finally says with a playful — and pointed — howl. “I’m protecting myself psychologically! It’s just all too good to be true! How dare I!”
Title: Holiday Tidings
Author’s Note: Originally queued for 2:30 p.m. PST today, and it deleted itself instead. So here it is again, hopefully.
Crazy.
Insane.
Out of your mind.
Your girlfriend called you a lot of things when you suggested an ice cream date in the middle of winter, but it only spurred you on.
The two of you were currently vacationing at the beach, and while it warmed up in the afternoons, the evenings and early mornings dropped substantially. While you certainly didn’t mind, easily enjoying the oversized sweaters and the reflection of the moon and stars on the icy sea, Carol ‘complained’ every chance she got.
For one of the most powerful people on Earth, as well as the bearer of the title ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Air Force Colonel’, you did not expect her to be so vocal about how cold she was.
Although, you did suspect part of it was just an excuse for cuddles in bed and holding each other while exploring the small shops. And you were right to suspect it, because Carol did not mind the cold at all. She just adored holding you in her arms, your face nuzzling into her neck as you drifted off to sleep or holding your gloved hand as you strolled through the holiday decorated shops.
Your eyes went wide once you spotted the ice cream parlor. It was decked out in multi-colored lights and the windows were painted with presents and candy canes and a banana split made to look like a Christmas tree.
You immediately sprinted in, leaving Carol behind and calling out for you. Practically bouncing in your spot, your eyes went over every single item on the menu board, quietly saying each item name as Carol went to get a seat. After reviewing all 32 signature combinations, and over 50 different individual flavors, you took your spot across Carol.
Happily recounting the ones that interested you the most, she listened intently while scanning the handheld copy of the menu on the table. Once you selected your option, which was exact same thing you always got no matter where you two went, Carol made her choice and went to stand in line.
Seeing you so ecstatic was heartwarming, and she was glad the brisk evening air had already tinted her cheeks red, otherwise she would have to hide her blush. But that was the least of her concerns. While she was waiting in line, she was dreading giving the order and paying. Aside from the expensive prices that made no sense, even for the winter ($7.99 for one scoop?!), the names of the ice cream combinations baffled her.
Caffeine Overload?
Grease Monkey??
Lazy Hazy Wavy???
She missed the fun names of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, which she preferred since it would allow the two of you to lay in bed and watch Netflix.
“Good evening miss! What can I get for you today?”
Carol was slightly surprised by the elf/sailor costume the server, Steve, as his name tag read, was in, but she ignored it and went on with the order. “Two scoops in a bowl, one Cookies n’ Cream and the other Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. And a… for the affogato, is it just the espresso or coffee liquor, or can I switch it with a different one?”
“Looking for a stiff one, eh?” he replied, winking. “We got 17 different flavored liquors you can choose from, but I’ll have to check for ID, since you look so young.”
Carol’s face became unreadable as the server flirted with her. She admits that she gets jealous, and physical, rather easily when anyone flirts with you, but when it’s the other way other around?
Well, for her it was hot, but she really didn’t want you to make a scene in a quiet parlor with a few families around. So, she just pretended not to hear his comment and went on creating her ice cream bowl. Unfortunately, the server’s flirting only became more obvious as he deliberately went out of his way to drop a few innuendos in every sentence.
‘I hope you don’t mind me going a little hard on the pour.’
‘Careful with this one, you might choke on all the liquid.’
‘Would you like to spoon, I mean, a spoon?’
It was getting difficult for Carol to keep a straight face, and she was seriously debating weather she should clock him right in the jaw now, or just pay and leave as soon as possible.
Fortunately, her decision was made when she felt your arm wrap around her waist, a fire burning in your eyes as you slammed a few bills on the counter.
“Two spoons, actually.” You hissed at him, your arm not leaving Carol.
She smirked at the server as his face drained of all color and as another server made a tally on a white board. Paying and taking your desserts, you ‘accidentally’ knocked the tip jar off the counter. Once you took your seat, you sat next to your girlfriend instead of across from her, unzipping your large jacket so she could snuggle up to you.
After a few moments of silent eating, you finally spoke, your voice small and quivering. “I can’t believe I just did that… I feel so bad for breaking the jar, and I didn’t even tip!”
Carol gave you a confident smile as she drew you closer to her. “To be fair, he did shamefully flirt with me, even though I’m like twice his age. Still, it is rude not tip. We’ll leave a few bills on the table. How does that sound?”
She gave a quick peck to your cheek, and you nodded before returning to your ice cream.
After finishing eating, leaving a proper tip, and exiting the parlor still clinging to her, you heaved a heavy sigh, finally relaxing now that you’ve left.
“(Y/N)?”
You looked up to your girlfriend, whose face was illuminated by the moonlight and a blush darkened your already flushed cheeks.
Her lips met yours and, while you two have kissed before on many occasions, you still melted into her embrace as warmth spread through your face. She broke the kiss, wearing a crooked and cocky grin. Only one thought went through your mind as you remembered what that look went.
‘Oh no…’
Carol effortlessly picked you up in her arms and quickly made her way back to the rental. Needless to say, if your stunt in the ice cream parlor didn’t get you on the Naughty List, what Carol had planned certainly would.
Hope you enjoyed!
Who is your favorite god based on personality??
I have to choose one???? But ;-; I love them all? So much? Ah, okay, I’ll try.
Leon: He literally always makes it clear he has eyes only for you. He may be arrogant and sometimes downright mean to others, but for you he lets those walls come down and becomes a puddle of love. Leon is so sweet and caring of you, especially after some “night-ins” and treats you like his queen. He even follows your “goldfish” ways, despite having the power to teleport. Also, he is like a little cub for Karno, and I find that hilarious. The normal dominant Lion is now a small cub. I adore all of this about him, including how he is willing to change his way of thinking for you and puts his complete and utter trust in your hands. ALSO, Leon changes drastically in his own route. He goes from this arrogant, self-centered bastard, to someone understanding (maybe), and caring.
Karno: I joke about Karno all the time being boring and plain, but it doesn’t mean I love him any less. He has this soft dominance aura around him that everyone complies with. Karno loves humans so much and he would do anything to save them. He sounds like that kind of dude who would go to busy, public places and sit and watch others. I don’t think I’d be romantically in love with him, but I would consider him a close friend. Friend-zoned. To me, Karno is that mom friend. He always watches your back, knows many things you probably don’t, and takes care of you even when you don’t know it. Plus, he has this leadership side to him that I really like. In any substory with a group, he is most likely the group leader who helps get things done and stays on top of everyone.
Teorus: Where do I begin?! This dude is childish as heck?! But, that’s the charm in him. He is like a little boy with a crush on a girl in kindergarten. Teorus will get all pouty and sulky when you hang with other boys and then all happy when you talk to him. Teorus has determination when it comes to you, his motivation. Several times I have witnessed him trying to handmake or cook for you even if he doesn’t know the terms of cooking and ends up making Scorpio throw up and Hue pass out from trying his “food.” He’s so adorable, ugh. I can’t help but love his oblivious thinking when it comes to consequences too. This man literally stops time for you just so you can stay in bed with him. It’s cute, but we are sure he will get in trouble for that. Teorus just always wants to please you.
Huedhaut: AHHHH! Dude, we ALL know why we love this man?!?!?! HE IS THE DEFINITION OF SARCASM. A man who is able to tease me with CLEVER and snarky comments is always a bonus point. He is incredibly wise, I mean how else did he get that title, and knows how to deal with people like Leon. Huedhaut is the quiet type in all honesty. He doesn’t talk too much, but he gives you his honest opinions and helps you through whatever your delima is. Slight spoiler ahead, but it’s very vague. Huedhaut would literally do anything for you. He wants to protect you in every possible way. He’s that protective of you. Feeling jealous of her? Noted. Private gallery walk with memories of only you two. Huedhaut just wants you to know how much you mean to him.
Tauxolouve: Boi, he is definitely a refined man. We don’t see much of him sadly, but from what we do see we know he’s definitely a family man. He is so sweet to others and takes teasing quite easily. Yes, he does play around with goddesses a lot, but when he meets you, that all stops. He is thoughtful of how you might see things versus how he sees them as, but never pushes you out of your comfort zone. Lou is pretty carefree when it comes to other things, but he’s serious with you. To be honest, I think he has a very mysterious personality. It seems to me he doesn’t tell you many things. You figure it out on your own. Compared to most of the other gods, he’s mature in his own way since he doesn’t get get flustered by small things, like Scorpio,... but that doesn’t mean he loves you any less.
Aigonorus: This god totally has a laidback, chill, seemingly uncaring personality. He does whatever he wants whenever he wants and doesn’t care for the consequences. However, when it comes to you, he is loving, caring, and eager to make you happy. Although sometimes his lazy nature gets in the way of his job, he always has enough energy to be with you... sometimes. Aigo isn’t rude to you like the other gods are sometimes. In fact, he only wants you to be his pillow, haha, but there’s always more to him than you think. For example, he has a freaking goat. He loves his animals so much, and I love animals, so you can imagine how much connection I have with him. Aigonorus will always love you even if your mind is clouded with dark thoughts of the future. He wants you to be at ease.
Zyglavis: Uptight. That’s his main personality. He is so strict about everything he does. It’s obvious he’s a rule follower and hates breaking the rules for any reason. He has immense respect for the king, no matter how much he plays with him, and argues with the Leon on his attitude toward the king. Zyglavis has top notch manners and will teach you how to act properly. Even if he may seem intimidating and scary, you knew he’s sweet pudding in the inside. When it comes to you, he is willing to break some laws for you to show you how much he loves you and to save you. Did I also mention he has a soft spot for children? Well, he does and it’s the cutest thing you will ever witness. He cares deeply for humans and the heavens. Why else would he work so hard for both of them? Zyglavis is loyal to humans, the King, and you.
Scorpio: One word: tsundere. All of us know it, including Leon. He is harsh, brash, and hurtful with his words and attitude toward others. He is brave when it comes to the King as well. He doesn’t back down from him, ever. Zyglavis is probably the only one that Scorpio publicly shows he respects. Scorpio has little patience with anyone or thing, and he even has a dark side to him that makes him synthesize with children’s pain. He is relentless when he punishes because of this. On the contrast, for you, he is sweet and loving. You are his number one now. Scorpio is still innocent to PDA though, I don’t think that will ever change. But, don’t be fooled, he can still bite when he needs to. I feel like Scorpio can actually be sensitive sometimes because your words and actions can cut him deeply if you say the wrong thing.
Dui: Well... he kind of has two? Dui has a sweet side where he adores absolutely everything you do and is curious about everything you talk about. He can listen to you for hours and never gets bored. Occasionally, he will be pulled into Ikky’s pranks, but he always protects you from them. He can get shy sometimes when you take charge, but he has no shame for PDA. In fact, the gods all think of you as that sickeningly sweet couple. On the other hand, his other personality is more rough, dominant, and confident. Shadow Dui is still caring about you though. He loves you just as much, but he has a harder time being vulnerable around you. He prefers to act tough and even throw in some naughty hints. His attitude is more forceful for the most part, but he looks out for Dui at the same time. Both make sure to care for you though.
Ichthys: This troublemaker is full of pranks. He enjoys seeing others fall for his genius plans and is carefree as ever. I’d say his motto is “YOLO.” It fits him well because he doesn’t think twice before he makes these. He is pretty fearless, in a sense, because he knows what Scorpio and Zyglavis will do to him if he gets caught. When he is with you, he is incredibly adventurous. His creativity is the next level because he can create a whole new world with only a snap of his fingers. Just beware that he can go from a man child to your man in an instant. Ichthys can get real mature when it comes to nighttime fun. Another thing is that he can come off as a peacemaker when he really needs to. He hates leaving people unhappy. Ikky thrives on making people happy by his pranks or adventures he drags them into.
Krioff: I love this man so much. He is so innocent when it comes to women or anything, to be honest. His aloof demeanor is charming to me. He tries to understand what the gods are saying, but his mind isn’t built like theirs. He’s definitely a quiet type with a rough touch. Krioff for sure is an inner softy. He may have a difficult time showing his feelings, but he makes sure to give you what you want. His background really helps you understand his personality a lot more. He’s shameless in some cases though, like making out with you on a worshipping ground. Krioff also cares about his family, despite the obstacles that have raised. He wants to always keep you safe no matter what and even risks his life for you multiple times. He is a hard worker when it comes to making peace with other gods as well.
Partheno: Oh gosh, the beauty god. His personality is twisted, and I like that. He is unpredictable to say the least. Most of his thoughts are in the gutter which makes him such a perv at times. However, he is deeper than that and only you can see how he really is. Partheno is not stuck up like some of the other gods are, and he doesn’t feel the need to act superior either. He was the last character to be released before the creators ended the title, basically, so I hope they show more of his different sides soon. Partheno is always thinking of you. I think he talks about you more than the other gods actually. He is pretty hopeful too and he trusts you a lot? Like, I almost cried in season one because of that ONE CG. You are literally his world. I’m sure the other gods would turn out okay if you didn’t choose him, but not Parthy! He depends on you.
......So, in conclusion, I’m still clueless as to who is my favorite, personality wise.
It Takes Two
Title and story idea are credited to @runningracingdancingchasing
Tangled (Post BEA): Rapunzel is itching to practice her improv acting. Eugene is happy to be tied up and listen to her assert herself. Of course it was going to end with sensory deprivation and naughty role playing.
***
“Over, under, in and out, that is what it’s all… about!” Rapunzel stood back and admired her handiwork. The scarf she had chosen was pure silk, with a pair of folded up, satin hankies tucked on top of his eyes. Cool, comfortable, and one-hundred percent sight-proof. Not bad work, she thought. As for the rest of it…
Seventy feet of long, blonde hair was both a hassle and a blessing. Sometimes both at once. Like when her boyfriend-slash-Prince consort agreed to an afternoon of role playing and acting. Rapunzel couldn’t explain it, but lately she had been itching to flex her theatrical muscles. She already knew how to draw, paint, play the guitar, dance, execute moves in chess and sing. Was it so hard to believe that she and Pascal used to put on some of the best ventriloquism acts that nobody had ever seen?
She even had the home-made badge!
Well, clearly she needed to just prove it. And who better to practice with than her ‘lovely assistant’? “Comfy, Eugene?”
“Well now,” he mumbled, pulling halfheartedly against the silken bonds of her hair. “This feels rather… familiar.” Déjà vu in the most extreme sense. But this time instead of being strapped in to a paint-chipped wooden chair, his wrists were tied to the plush, padded arms of one of the high-back velvet chairs she kept off to the side. (The right one, if he had to guess - he’d be asleep already if it was the left one, and yes, there is a difference between the two, thank you Cass-andra!) “But oh yes, very comfy.”
A flush of pride spread through her as she clasped her hands and grinned.
“Remind me which characters we’re playing here, Blondie?”
“Oh, that’s easy!” But there was something in her voice that left him believing that it was not, in fact, ‘easy.’
“I’m giving you an easy one - you just have to be your charming, roguish, Flynn Rider-self. Where as I am going to be playing the part of some menacing guard who’s caught you! Should be easy for you, don’t you think?”
“As easy as pie, Princess. Ooh! Hey, speaking of, did you hear that they’re making blueberry tonight? Mm! What’s say after this we go grab a piece?” The giggle he heard was nothing short of musical. Even with his eyes covered, he could almost picture her tipping forward and covering her mouth.
“Sure! For now though, remember;- this is ‘improvisational theatre.’ Once we start, there’s no script. You just have to stay in character and react as they would. It’s good practice! See? Well… if you could see.”
He could not see. She’d made darn sure of that. The blindfold wrapped around his eyes was silk or satin with extra folds, if he had to guess. Cool and soft, and blocking out all the light in the world. For a ‘menacing guard,’ Rapunzel was awfully considerate with his comfort. Part of him wondered if she could keep up her charade if he suddenly winced and complained that it was too tight - he could just see her gasping and rushing to loosen the knot at the back.
She was sweet like that.
Pat. Pat. Pat. Eugene was forced to come back to reality as he heard, and felt, the least intimidating stomps he had ever heard. Probably because his ‘captor’ was barefoot and the floor was painted marble and a rug. But with the time between steps, it was obvious that someone was doing their level best to be intimidating.
“Oh, Blondie…”
“Silence, intruder!” Rapunzel barked, and he pressed his mouth together into a thin line to keep from giggling. It was her indoor voice. Her ‘I’m making a formal Princess decision, and to heck with whoever disagrees with it’ voice. He loved that voice. She always looked so good when she wielded just a little bit of her official power. “Have you any idea how much trouble you’re in? How much danger you’re in?” Unseen thanks to his blindfold, Rapunzel allowed herself to feel triumphant. Role playing was so much fun! It had been too long since she had been able to put on a play!
“It really doesn’t feel like that much ‘danger’,” Eugene murmured gaily. Hands came up from their resting position to throw in some quotation marks. Because really, if she wanted to play properly, he was going to act his part right along with her. “I mean, you’re not even even all that angry at me. Angry people get much huffier, you know.”
“Ohh? Oh, ho, uh huh. Yeah. Is that right?” Rapunzel couldn’t stop nodding, her eyebrows rising in a look of defiance. And, of course, a look that was completely lost on him, because she made darn sure that blindfold wasn’t going to let anything through. It was dark and scary and cut off one of his precious five senses. Which should have been really dangerous and frightening. ‘Trust Flynn Rider to never let it show,’ she reminded herself. Which really only made her stall and nod some more more. But it did inspire her to act more like some angry, frustrated guard.
“Well! It shows what you know, because… I am angry! I’m very, very angry!” It sounded as much as she was convincing herself as she was him, and for good measure she stomped on the spot. “Hmfp!” Yes! That was much better. There was a satisfying strike on the stone, and she was pleased her feet were so strong.
“Okay, well then, I can certainly see you mean business. Hear it, I mean! I can hear you mean business!” He quickly caught himself. It still felt just a little silly, but frankly it was plain adorable on her part. He was still glad that Pascal had been sent to to play with Max in the stables, though. “So… what am I in trouble For?”
“Don’t play coy with me,” Rapunzel declared, pacing back and forth before him, her hands clasped behind her back and her nose held high. All unnecessary, but it helped her get into the mind of her character, and she made sure to stamp her bare feet on the stones every so often. “You think we’re going to just forget all the trouble you caused last time? Oh, we were onto you the moment you strolled into town, Fitzherbert.” She huffed indignantly again… and then realised what she had said.
“Wait…”
“Fitzherbert? Are you sure about that…?”
No! She had meant to say Flynn Rider! But she was so used to calling Eugene, Eugene, and she liked his real name so much better and ugh! “Don’t be smart with me!” She whirled on him, her cantankerous persona becoming louder. It was either that or break character, and she couldn’t do that! It was one of the Golden Rules of the ‘Rapunzel and Pascal Acting Guild!’ “I… know exactly who you are! Do you think rescuing poor, helpless maidens from lonely towers will make up for your crimes? Just because you have a handsome, chiselled, adorable face and good hair, and… and smile, and-”
“Uh, Guard? Hi. Focus.” Rapunzel caught herself again, a warmth spreading through her cheeks that she was glad he couldn’t see. She cleared her throat, straightened up and resumed her pacing.
“Your crimes of trying to charm and embarrass me will be added to your sentencing,” she declared with a small huff.
“So, wait…” Eugene’s head tilted and she crossed her arms, idly wondering if this was how he had managed to escape capture so many times in the past. Even if she was merely playing a role, she could feel her character bristling from being interrupted so often. “If I’m facing a sentencing, then don’t I get a chance to defend myself?”
“Ah. The rogue wishes to play the defendant.” There was a smug tone in her voice, and Rapunzel didn’t have to act very much for it, either. With all the air and grace of a benevolent judge, she waved her hand. “I believe I will allow this.”
“That’s just great,” Eugene sighed, grinning broadly. “I’d like my girlfriend Rapunzel to defend me, in that case.”
Her mouth dropped open and her arms went slack. “You… can’t do that!” All traces of her adopted voice had vanished. She was Rapunzel! How could she be both his tormentor and his saviour? Who ever heard of a play or performance like that?!
“You’ve said it yourself - I’m just famous for rescuing the Princess of Corona, and I know that ‘she’ has memorised the law like nobody’s business. So she can defend me.” And with an air of confidence, he relaxed back against the velvet ‘interrogation chair.’ “Isn’t that right Rapunzel?” And now he was calling out to his (he assumed) nearby girlfriend. Who was completely different from the person who was marching back and forth before him.
“… that’s right.” It was a small voice and her hands had covered her mouth, because none of this was in her script. Because there was no script, and he knew that, darn it. That was the whole point of improvisation! But still… She had planned a little bit of it. There was going to be some teasing and playing while she pretended to be an agent of justice, not… all this.
But it was a natural reaction for her at this point - Eugene had called for her help and she just dove right in. Besides, he was right - he did have the right to it. Not that any of this was even real! But still…
“Ah! Blondie!” Her ‘prisoner’ grinned and looked over to the side, where a very non-existent Rapunzel seemed to be standing. “Would you be a dear and tell this brutal, sadistic guard that whatever I did, it isn’t all that bad, and you have every right to defend me?” He even punctuated it with a jerk of his head towards where she really stood. The brutal, sadistic guard with long blonde hair, a pink dress and bare legs.
And, since the whole thing was her idea, Rapunzel felt herself stepping over to her new cue, clearing her throat and folding her hands. “As a member of Corona’s Royal family, and someone who has studied law, I am hereby empowered to speak on behalf of others in their defense.” She spoke in a clear, cool tone, directed towards... nobody. The vacant space where she stood a moment before. The ‘heartless guard.’
“Ooh. You’re in trouble now!” Eugene grinned broadly, and while he was facing the same empty space, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was talking to her, plain and simple. And that the triumphant grin that looked so gosh-darn appealing on him was just a little too ‘at her expense.’ But nobody had any place on the stage unless they had thick skin for the critics and could adapt on the fly. Rapunzel made sure to square her shoulders and plant her feet wider. She had been playing parts and practicing ventriloquism and pantomime for years before they had met.
And she was going to give him a good show, darn it!
“This man,” she announced to nobody in particular. “ - has had his criminal record expunged, and is no longer wanted for for many, many crimes, both petty and despicable.” From the corner of her eye she saw him wince, and it brought a smirk to the corner of her mouth. “I expect you to release him at once.” Rapunzel huffed. It was a noise of finality. And a second later, she took a wide step across, turned and adopted a bitter scowl. She leaned over and crossed her arms to appear as closed-off as possible.
“Maybe in Corona!” she replied to herself, throwing in a scoff at the end. “But while he’s been relaxing over there, this man has committed acts both treacherous and impressive! And unlike some of us, he’s not rescued any lost Princesses from any towers here…”
“She’s really not helpless, either,” Eugene broke in, interrupting the ‘two women’ before some real heated arguments began to fly. If it could happen, it would. “I mean, that ‘little maiden’ knocked me out and threw me around like nobody’s business!”
“Hey, yeah! I did!” Rapunzel frowned, crossing her arms and cocking her hip and tapping her foot against the ground. “Just who has the nerve to refer to me as some kind of ‘helpless maiden,’ anyway?!”
Silence stretched on as she realised, a second later, that it was her. Or more specifically, her other character. But that’s okay! Ad-libbing and making things up on the fly was all part of the acting process. Every new interaction was helping to shape this new persona. Fleshing her out. Giving her depth and meaning. Rapunzel imagined that she was a guard who had been working there for years, and couldn’t remember the last time she had a holiday. Someone who had no time for an ex-thief and some privileged princess. And then they have the hide to come onto her territory and tell her how to do her job? The nerve!
“Listen, ‘Princess Perfect,’“ she snapped back, smoothly slipping back into both her position and role as a frustrated law officer. “You may be the next Queen of Corona, but around here? You’re just another pretty face in need of a haircut.”
Rapunzel stepped back, gasping, a hand to her chest. Off to the side she thought she heard Eugene stiffen and breathe “woah,” but she could be wrong. She was too worked up to worry about that. A flush of resentment swept through her, uncomfortably warm and leaving her balling her fists at her sides.
“Well, I’d say being a future Queen means I outrank you, sweetie. Okay? So why don’t you drop the sword, drop the ‘tough girl’ act and release my boyfriend!”
“Blondie…?”
“Well maybe you need to stick to whatever it is you do when you’re not brushing your hair. Doodling sketches and wearing crowns, I assume!”
“Sunshine…?”
“I happen to be the most renown artist in the Kingdom!”
“Rapunzel?”
“What?!” Her hands covered her mouth and her eyes went as wide as saucers as she realised what had happened. At this point she had certainly snapped loudly enough to pass for two people. And Eugene, precious man that he was, didn’t flinch or rear back. He just tilted his head and leaned in her direction, still tied up with her hair and his eyes completely covered.
“Come back to me, honey,” he said, and she felt her shoulders sag.
“Guess I got a bit carried away,” she admitted sheepishly. “Aw, I’m sorry, Eugene.” Rapunzel swept her hair behind her, an arm reaching around his neck as she moved to sit across his lap and cuddle him.
“Wait - !”
Too late. Down she went, sitting neatly across his legs and something else. Her eyes widened again as he bit his lip and hissed softly, wriggling beneath her. A shift of her hips told her exactly why, too. Rapunzel watched him for a moment, at the flickers of emotion across his face. The little reactions and the telltale pink forming in his cheeks.
“Eugene…” She was quiet and coy. Utterly playful as his erection pressed into the side of her hip. “Just how did this happen…?”
“Well,” he drawled the word, clearing his throat and stalling for time. “Sometimes it’s just a reaction, you know? That’s all. A little reaction and pop, oh, look at that.” The blindfold did nothing to conceal what she liked to call his ‘pretend-innocent’ look. It was like the prison cell in Pincosta all over again.
“Uh huh. Oh, I’m aware of that. What I’d like to know is what kind of reactions cause this.” This time she reached down, her palm touching him fully. Eugene jumped beneath her and she watched him draw another soft hiss between his clenched teeth. “Does someone have a thing for hearing me getting all defensive…?” She was sure she had read that somewhere once before. Why, though, she couldn’t begin to fathom. Who would enjoy someone being so aggressive and guarded?
“Mm… not exactly…?” The pause in the air seemed much longer than when she demanded to know who had called her some ‘helpless, innocent maiden.’
“You do know I’m not getting up before you tell me about this, don’t you?”
“Oh, yeah. No, I worked that one out on my own.”
“I’m so glad we’re on the same page, Eugene.”
“Always, Blondie.”
“Mm.”
The silence returned, and she had a feeling it would have hung for even longer if she didn’t curl her fingers around his shaft and squeeze. The fabric of his trousers did nothing to hinder that - after all: she wasn’t some darn helpless tower-girl!
“Okay! So… maybe it’s a little bit of the being-tied-up by you again, sweetheart, which really, how could that not be a thing? But, if I had to put it down to one thin in particular, I would pick your… assertiveness.”
Rapunzel blinked and leaned back, as though she couldn’t quiet believe it. Immediately Eugene began to relax beneath her, sagging against the chair as the small pressure on his groin was gone.
“My assertiveness? That’s not new. I’m assertive, you know! Shouldn’t you be walking awkwardly all the time? Because I’m plenty assertive, thank you very much, Eugene,” she declared with a small scoff. It was returned by a blindfolded, hesitant look.
“Ehh… I would say you have confidence, Rapunzel. You have that in spades, and really, for someone with your history and experiences, I think you’re a miracle woman because of it. But when it comes to laying down the law, you’re more of the… ‘bend over backwards to make everyone happy, even if it costs you’ kind of person.”
“Wha-? I am not, I - “ She cut herself short as this time. Behind the silk scarf around his head, she watched as he managed to arch a perfectly-plucked eyebrow up. It was the same sceptical look he had given her when they first met and she insisted she kept her promises. “… okay, so, maybe I can be a little… I don’t know, ‘too nice.’ Or polite. Or things that really shouldn’t be a bad thing, so I don’t know why people act as if they are…”
“And they’re not!” She wasn’t sure if Eugene heard or somehow sensed that she was pouting, but soon enough she felt his beard tickling her cheek as he kissed her face over and again. “But there’s a bit of a difference between being ‘nice’ and, say, ‘taking the lead,’ you know? Like, going with the flow and being… mm, dominant? A little proud…?”
“A little dominant while fighting over you,” Rapunzel smirked. She wasn’t surprised when he hummed and stalled and finally sheepishly nodded. ‘Possessive’ was the word for it, and one she had mixed feelings about. But there was a world of difference between being hoarded for her hair and being wanted because she was loved. Why wouldn’t he enjoy it a little, she thought?
“Eugene…” She slid off of his lap and she swore she saw his eyebrows knitting together. Some mimicry of confusion and disappointment. All the while, she lifted her skirt up just enough until she was able to sit back down. This time, though, she was facing him, straddling him with a long, strong leg thrown over side of his. “If only I knew you felt this way…”
“Well, I didn’t exactly try to hide it - ahh, hah…” Once again he was cut off, and she was treated to the oh-so satisfying sight of Eugene’s mouth falling open as he moaned softly. “What are you doing?”
“What…? You mean - “ Her thighs squeezed him. Toes dug into the plush rug beneath them. Her hips rolled forward slowly and she felt him, full and hard against her tingling core. “ - this, right…?”
Eugene groaned. She felt warm air against her cheek and the swoop of hair fluffing up and back before sitting still. A naughty thrill flew through her, resting inside her. Rapunzel grinned and leaned back, her hips settling against him as she made herself comfy. This was so much more fun than just arguing with herself.
“Yes, sweetheart. Darling. Why are you doing that?” There was a definite whine in his voice that time, and Rapunzel decided she needed to hear him do it more often. Mm, yes. She’d start right away, squeezing her thighs against his and watching him bite his lip once again.
“I’m doing what I want,” she said, as simply as if announcing the time of day. The idea of being coy and cutely asking ‘don’t you like it?’ floated through her mind before she banished it. She was being dominant! Possessive! Her hips wiggled and she giggled as he shifted about beneath her. “I’ve captured you, so I get to do what I want with you. Remember?”
“Ahh! But you didn’t catch me! The other one grabbed me and tied me up, didn’t she?” Rapunzel decided he looked a little too smug while he pointed out the flaw in her little argument, and she rolled her hips again, sending a pleasant tingle through her sex and rearranging his features. She was starting to appreciate seeing him at her mercy.
Still, he had a point, darn it… Until it dawned on her that she was in charge. That meant she could do anything!
“Silly Eugene,” she said, hands curling around the loops of golden hair keeping him in place. Her head turned and she spoke out of the side of her mouth, throwing her voice as best as possible. “Haven’t you worked it out yet? I’m the Rapunzel you knew before, coming to your rescue. With her short, chestnut hair. The returned Princess. You remember her, right?”
Behind the silk blindfold, she watched her boyfriend look confused and try to piece together what was going on. But rather than wait, she leaned over, head tilted and talking from the opposite side. “And I’m Rapunzel with her long, blonde hair. Who’s seen the world and faced it all. And I’m the one who has you at her every whim…”
Years of home-practised ventriloquism with a chameleon were finally paying off.
“Well,” Eugene breathed. She watched his face flit between emotions, much like whenever he was trying (and failing) not to freak out. “I’m intrigued, but I’m not too sure how the world can handle two Rapunzel’s. You know? That’s… ten feet, eight inches of sunshine. That might be too much for anyone to take.”
Rapunzel was having none of it. She was having fun, and there was plenty of evidence pressed against her underwear that he was having fun, too. Speaking of which…
“Well, that’s a shame,” she sighed, deciding that this was coming from the short-haired, curious Rapunzel. She kept herself hovering perfectly still on top of him, leaning to the side and talking from the proper direction. Hands played with his collar. Fingers stroked his neck and throat. She allowed herself to pat him down slowly, along his doublet… before switching halfway. Rapunzel with her long locks and experience took over, deciding that the hooks were an affront to her Royal gaze. And then she smartly undid them, one by one, until she was able to push it open and spread her palms across his undershirt. “Because that is exactly what you’re going to be dealing with, Mister Fitzherbert.”
He chuckled and she felt all of it. Muscles beneath her palms humming and relaxing as she traced her fingers up and down. The peaks of his nipples, taut and inviting her to do what she will. And she did, because one side of her was curious about how different they were compared to her own, and all the ways a man would react. And her more adventurous, experienced self knew how his face would morph and hiss, and she just loved wielding that magnificent power over him.
“Blondie…” He whined and arched as she drew a circle with her thumb, pinching down and plucking his peak.
“How do you know it’s ‘Blondie?’” she crooned playfully. Both hands palmed him, the same way he had done to her when they were alone long enough to be intimate. Lifting him up and moving back and forth. Dragging her fingers over tender flesh. Her nails leaving pale marks as she came back down, scratching a tattoo into his skin. “Maybe it’s me, Eugene. Remember how much you used to grab my short hair? How you’d grab a handful and pull it just so? And I’d love every bit of it…”
It couldn’t be - they both knew that. It was her same seventy-odd feet of hair that was keeping him lassoed to the chair, after all. But that was the beauty of role playing, she mused. She was calling the shots, as he so eagerly suggested, and with his eyes closed, she could be anyone she wanted to be. They were both having fun. Lots of fun. Wasn’t that the point of acting, anyway? To make-believe and enjoy yourself?
“You know, you ‘two’ change places so quickly, I can barely tell who’s who,” he sighed. Did he have any idea how adorable he looked? Trying to be dry and witty with a silk scarf for a blindfold and a pretty pink blush on his cheeks. Rapunzel thought it was just darling. Enough to lower her hands to his belt and deftly unfasten it, embracing her bolder self. Assertive Rapunzel. The ‘blonde bombshell’ who’d claim him as hers and then demand his freedom, because he was past due for their twelve o’clock make-out session.
Ooh. She could see why this was so effective on him!
“Well,” she said smartly. Clink, clink. The belt came loose. The button, too. “That’s just something you’re going to have work out for yourself, now, won’t you…?” Rapunzel’s hand slipped down. Familiar warmth tickled her and began to spread along her arms and into her chest as she pulled him free from his clothes. Delicate fingers curled around his cock, feeling his length and his girth, remembering how soft and hard it seemed to be all at once. And then she slowly pumped him. Down to his base before coming back up. Watching his flesh bob and twitch while his thighs shook beneath her. A dewdrop of sticky arousal leaked from his tip and she rolled it around with her thumb.
The moan he gave her was reward enough for her silly little self-argument earlier on.
“Are you sure you want to be doing this, Blon - Rapunzel? Just what’s going to happen if someone comes knocking?” It wasn’t a silly question, but she knew better. She had made sure the hallway was good and cleared before she was going to perform any improvised acting. And for good measure she had locked the door, too. They had privacy - Eugene was just going to have to make peace with the fact that she was firmly in control. And she was having lots of fun with it, too.
“Oh, Eugene - did you forget already? We’re safe and sound, hiding from those mean guards that want to lock you up for all your wicked ways.”
“Then why are there two of you?”
“Because I love you,” she hummed, letting go of his cock and pushing his doublet open and back. It wasn’t going anywhere while his arms were tied, but she wanted better access darn it. And she got it, swiftly working on the buttons of his shirt, pressing her moist lips across his skin as she revealed more and more of his chest. The scent soap and cologne left her giddy.
“Because you’re lucky,” Rapunzel cooed. She had no choice now but to slide off of his trembling legs, but that was okay. It allowed her to clear the last button and flick his top apart, kissing the warm skin of his stomach. She could taste the salt and the powders used to wash their clothes. She felt his hardness brushing against the bodice of her dress and he squirmed against her, seeking some sort of relief that was just out of reach. And, because ‘Blondie’ was a merciful Princess, she shrunk down until her breath ghosted across his sensitive flesh.
“Because I want to,” she said, matter-of-factly. Her lips came together and she kissed the very tip of his prick, wet from her play and burning hot. She wished she could just capture the sound he made. She felt his hardness jump and pulse as his body just flexed beautifully and his hands balled into fists.
“Rapunzel…!”
She slithered backwards a few paces, pulling volumes of her hair beneath her and sitting down. And then she just watched Eugene, sitting and shaking in her chair. Half naked and tied to the arms. Blindfolded. Panting and blushing and spreading his fingers wide. That familiar heat had poured down her heart and chest and begun pooling up inside her hips. “Say my name,” she asked from down on the floor. “Like that again.”
“Rapunzel.” Eugene wasn’t panting so much, now. The rise and fall of his chest wasn’t as heaving as it was a second ago.
“Again,” she breathed. She leaned forward, studying him. She wasn’t a stranger to him or his body - not after travelling for more than a year, across roads and water and through forests. But she could admire him as an artist and a lover and as a healthy young woman. And Rapunzel with her short, choppy, chestnut hair was all of that and more.
“Rapunzel…” His voice was deeper, and she just knew that if she had placed her hand on his chest she would have felt his whole rib cage rumbling. It was a timbre sound that made her body flush with warmth and her thighs squeeze together. That made the back of her neck begin to buzz with excitement.
“Once more.” This time it was a demand. Blonde Rapunzel knew there was more hidden just below the surface, and she wanted it.
Eugene slowly bit his lip and she saw pearly teeth winking at her. He arched backwards into the chair, inviting her over. She swore she saw his cock throbbing like it had a heartbeat of it’s own, and she wanted nothing more than to wrap her hand back around him and feel it pump for her.
“Rapunzel…”
She shrank down into herself. All of her muscles compressed, trying to satisfy the need that had come roaring to the surface. Her toes curled. She pulled at her hair. Tugged at her corset. Rapunzel jumped up and flew to the door, fingers flying over the bows and ties of her dress as she bent down and checked the locks once again.
Sealed. Secured. Private. Good. Good, good, good. It was a mantra as she all but floated across the floor, stopping halfway to push her loosened corset down her hips and stepped out of it. Her dress soon followed, shimmying one shoulder out and then the other before she shoved it off of her like it was suddenly offending her. And she loved her dress, but not when she felt like her entire body was burning up, thank you very much, and especially not when Eugene was half naked and saying her name just right, and the underwear needed to go too. Now. Like, yesterday!
“Rapunzel…?” Eugene had been left in the dark, but he was vaguely aware of things. The pull against his left arm told him she had gotten up and walked a few paces behind him. The ruffles of fabric could have been anything, but he sorely liked to imagine that it was his lovely Royal girlfriend taking care of her clothes and throwing them away. Yep - out the window, never to be needed again. He could dream, right?
He flinched as a warm hand caressed his cheek from out of nowhere. Fingers slid through his hair, pushing back and down. Not hard or insistent. Just leading him along. Telling him to lean back, and he followed. Warm, moist lips caressed against his and he felt everything inside him flutter. It was the same kiss she gave him when she was stirred up. When she probably would throw her political weight around to make sure she wasn’t interrupted.
“Eugene…” Her voice was almost melodic as she leaned away from him. Slight and celestial. He couldn’t tell where she was for a moment, her footsteps leaving no trace. And then he felt her hands on his breeches. Grabbing some great hold of his pants and briefs and tugging them out from under him. Good Lord, did she have any idea how darn strong she could be at times?!
All of that seemed trivial as she shoved his pants into a big bunch around his ankles. And up she climbed, a fit, firm leg sliding across him. Then the other as she sat on his lap. Feeling the solid, sculpted muscles of her ass against his thighs as she scooted closer. The bump of her warm, wet mound as she pressed against him. Rapunzel rose up, lifting her perky breasts against his face. He felt her grabbing hold of him and guiding him across her lips, groaning softly at how slick and hot she was. Her breath caressed his cheek as she tapped into all of that assertive, possessiveness she had for him.
“I want you to know... you’re mine.” She slid down onto him. Eugene arched and hissed and groaned as his felt her folds parting and her flesh spreading and her pussy engulfing him, inch after inch, until everything was hot and wet and her.
“Please oh please untie me.” He moaned. His head had already fallen forward as she settled on top of him. Her backside wiggled back and forth against his thighs. Her legs tucked up against the arms of the chair, where his hands flexed and reached for her. Rapunzel bit her lip and slowly rocked, watching his face grow tense and then relaxing.
Was this how she looked whenever she lay back and let him play with her? When she hugged his arm and squeezed his hand with her legs and cried his name? No wonder he had so much fun! Even if he wasn’t being touched himself… She was in control now. Everything was her call. Every move was hers. He was at her mercy.
It was like the times she had tasted wine and felt heady and relaxed, ambitious and uncensored. Everything was warm and tingling and she wanted more.
“I don’t think I’m going to do that, Eugene,” she sighed. Rapunzel caressed herself. Hands swept up her sides and breasts, cupping and softly squeezing herself just the way he used to. She’d make do for now - those hands of his were staying put.
“Pretty please…?” There was a hint of desperation in his voice that time. Or maybe it was from her hips rising and falling at an agonizing rate. If she focused, she could feel his cock spreading her flesh. The swollen tip brushing her deepest parts. Gliding in and out.
That was probably doing a few things to him, too.
“You said you liked me being in charge of you,” she reminded him patiently. Rapunzel’s hands moved from her chest to his. Fingers spread over smooth planes as she bounced a little, purring and giggling at the wonderful pace she was setting.
“I’d also really, really like to touch you?”
“Mm. I bet you would.” She could picture his broad hands around her hips. His beard tickling her skin as he kissed her throat or licked the junction of her breasts. There was something just so thrilling when she told Eugene to let go and just take her. Oh well! Too bad. Next time. Maybe. She was starting to get used to this. “You can use your voice, though.”
“My wha-?” She bounced and rocked against him, loving the attractive blush on his face and watching him lose more of himself to her.
“I like your voice,” she murmured. Her hands moved to muss up his hair, careful not to loosen the blindfold. “I like some of those words you only ever use when we’re like this. When I’m driving you wild, Eugene…” Rapunzel settled against him, squeezed him between her knees and clenched.
“Oh, sweet fu- ” Eugene arched against her and she grinned. From feeling him moving deeper inside her. From knowing she was making her boyfriend come apart at the seams.
“There we go. More of that, please and thank you.”
But Eugene was a little too far along. Too pulled apart. Whatever he was, he couldn’t keep up with her hands and hips and lips and pussy and legs and all of her. All he could manage was gasps and moans and soft curses, all of which she relished.
That’s okay, Rapunzel thought. Part of taking the lead meant working with what she had on hand. She shifted forward, an arm wrapping around his still-dressed shoulders while the other traced patterns up and down his front. “I wonder if you’ve worked out which ‘Rapunzel’ I am,” she wondered to herself. And coyly, seductively, adding: “Which one of us is riding your hard, handsome cock, Eugene?”
“For the love of God, Blondie…”
“Hee!” She beamed and readjusted herself. Her breasts flattened against his chest as she reached down between them, teasing them both. Fingers caressing his thick base before coming back up to glance against her aching pearl. It didn’t surprise her one bit that he thought of her as ‘Blondie.’ He called her that even when she had short hair! But Rapunzel with her long, indestructible hair was the one who first touched him like a woman. The one he first saw bare naked, and who saw him. The one he experimented with in Corona and who tried everything when they were travelling the countryside.
But not this time. She missed having her short, fluffy, naturally dark hair. The style he’d grab hold of. The one where they shared their first kisses.
“Not ‘Blondie,’ no,” Rapunzel sang. And her eyes flew wide open, because that time she swore that she felt his hardened flesh twitching inside her. She looked up at Eugene’s face, taking in his set jaw and creased brow. His heart was hammering against her. A giddy, naughty thrill raced up along her back, spreading across her skin and setting her nerves alight.
Eugene loved her, she didn’t doubt that one bit. But he missed her short hairstyle style, too. Right?
Well, that was easy to check.
“Still prefer brunettes?” she asked, her voice thick with need. “I remember the way your fingers would just spread through those little layers back there. It made me so happy. And I used to think how attractive it must be to see them in this little choppy sea of chestnut.”
She had her answer as she felt him absolutely throb inside her, his hips coming up to meet her and his dick twitching with absolute need. She didn’t need her fingers that time - his entire front had butted against her blushing wet core, rolling over her clit and leaving her purring with delight. Her tension was pulled tight. Her muscles burned. She just knew she was ready to shake and come undone on top of him.
“Rapunzel, I’m - “ She cut him off, hands grabbing either side of his head. Her hips ground against him.
“Cum for me, Eugene.” It was a demand. She was assertive and dominant and the light of his life and -
Rapunzel’s mind burst as Eugene thrust up against her, hard and fast and desperately. Once, twice, again and again until he went stock still beneath her. And like a guitar string, she felt him snap. He arched and groaned her name and some naughty part of her mind thought that it never sounded so delicious. Her deepest depths flooded with warmth. He shook and bucked against her -
“... ah!”
- and her body flared as if trillions of tiny paper lanterns had all been lit and lifted at the same time. Her mouth hung open but she couldn’t make a noise. Her legs trembled. Her toes curled. Nails dug into his scalp. Her hips ground down against him and she shook as she felt him twitch and empty inside her. All while she shook and squeezed and made noises that couldn’t be described in any of her romance books.
She wasn’t sure how long they sat there afterwards. She didn’t notice that she had gone from scratching his scalp to lovingly smoothing her hands through his hair. All she really knew was that they were both a sweating, panting mess.. and she didn’t want to get up just yet. Not without feeling pins and needles in her legs and (probably) leaving a sticky, pearly mess all over Eugene’s lap and her velvet chair.
Romance novels never warned her about that, either.
For now, she reached up and yanked the back of the silk scarf, watching him blink blearily at her while his eyes adjusted.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he sighed, smiling tiredly at her. Her racing heart gave a little flutter and something inside her did a little flip whenever he looked at her like that.
“Hey,” she sang. With all the care in the world, Rapunzel rose up and off of him, drawing another soft moan from her boyfriend as she did. Her feet wiggled as she shuffled backwards, stretching her leg out -
“I should’ve grabbed a towel before all this,” she sighed. The sudden chill she felt spoke volumes at how wet her skin had become. She didn’t trust herself to peek down just yet. Not that the sticky mess they made was off putting, but she was just fascinated by how Eugene’s arousal looked after sex. So shiny and slick and wow, all of that had been inside her. Again! How did she fit it all -
“Rapunzel…?” She blinked and looked back up. Oh. She had gotten distracted again. Grinning playfully, the naked princess padded away with stiff legs, reaching into her armoire and returning with a fluffy towel. Wordlessly she draped it over Eugene’s lap, turned and once again sat sideways across his legs. A second later she collapsed against him, purring happily while she kicked her legs up and down.
“This was fun,” she sighed, nuzzling against his chest. She looked up to give him a look of absolute triumph, before adding “I knew my ventriloquism skills hadn’t gotten rusty.”
“May I just say that I love that that’s what you got out of all of this?” Eugene asked, resting his chin on the top of her head. “And hey - here’s a fun idea. Think you could untie me now…?”
“Hrn.” He guessed it was more of a noise than an answer, but he felt her reaching around the arms of the chair and giving her hair just the right kind of tug to make it all unravel. It wasn’t the first time he suspected that every clump and strand was somehow, magically, prehensile.
“Oh, much better…” His hands came up around her narrow shoulders and he felt her cuddling deeper into him. It floored him how she could be both so bold and so small all at once. “So - did you scratch your itch for acting?”
“Mm, was that was started all this?” She almost sounded sleepy in his arms, and he was inclined to scoop her up, carry her over to the bed and then spoon her while they drifted off. He was fairly sure whatever luck they had wouldn’t keep the hallway clear and free for that long, though. “That’s right - I got the Thespian fever. Well, how did I do?”
“At playing Rapunzel? Ten out of ten. A smash hit. At playing some mean guard from somewhere I’ve victimised, well… maybe we could polish up on that.”
“Mm. Improvisational acting is hard, Eugene.”
“Well, you make it look good, Blondie.” His fingers traced patterns across her back and up into her hair, similar to how she had been doing to him as she teased and rode him. He pressed kisses against her damp brow, sure that if he started thinking of all that again, he’d want to turn the tables and tease her back.
“Eugene? I miss having my short hair style.”
He told himself she was tired, and it wasn’t just an achingly small voice that she was confessing a sordid secret with. More kisses sprinkled over her brow and then down her cheek.
“Well, sweetheart, if there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that you make the impossible, possible. And I’m sure if there’s a way to change this - “ He stopped and gave a small tug on a handful of indestructible hair, fine and silken like spun gold and capable of igniting like a bomb when she was threatened. “ - I’m sure you’ll work out what to do to change that.”
“Be honest - you miss it too, don’t you?” She leaned back, blushing and damp and beautifully naked in his arms. Wide, green eyes seemed to sparkle, challenging him to deny that yes, he had a preference when it came to her appearance.
“Loaded question,” he deflected, but she swatted him on the arm and he caught her. “Yeah, okay - you’ve got me. I thought it suited you nicely.”
“Well, congratulations. We share excellent tastes.”
“I know - you chose me, after all.”
“Eugene…” But he saw that coming from a mile away, and she wasn’t surprised when he lifted her chin and pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against her parted lips. One flick of her tongue to get the taste of him was all it took to forget about most of the things in her mind.
Most, but not all.
“I hope next time I get to choose my own style,” she sighed, and this time it was definitely a dreamy voice. Eugene could feel her weight shifting against him, her legs kicking a little less over the side of his lap.
“Yeah? What would you pick?” He wasn’t offended - he liked to think for a single scrap of glass, he didn’t do too bad of a job. But he wasn’t a hair stylist. Only a hair enthusiast.
“I’d get it done the same as before,” she mumbled. “Exactly the same. It was so pretty… And I’d let everyone know it was my choice to have it look that way. And that I love you so, so much.”
“I love you, too.” Eugene didn’t think twice about that, but he was flattered about her hair. And a little suspicious that maybe his barbering skills had been gossiped about. But he couldn’t help that, and if he had to go through it all over again to save her, he would’ve.
“Sure you wouldn’t want a professional doing it this time?” He chuckled. It was just a joke - he couldn’t think of anything else to really say. For months afterwards, he had held onto a bit of guilt of taking away her healing hair without giving her the choice first.
But Rapunzel didn’t answer. She was fast asleep, warm and damp, her freckled cheeks and most of her nude body still sporting a pretty blush.
“Okay, sweetheart,” he yawned. “We’ll talk more later… If they don’t break down the door and try to hang me.”
He wasn’t worried. If the worst should happen, she had already defended him from some stomping, angry guard that very afternoon. She could do it again.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
A sharp gasp left my throat when I felt the pad of Axel's thumb press against the opening that he wasn't already stuffing his cock into. He had woken me up ten minutes earlier with two fingers on my clit and his lips at my neck, whispering for me to wake up because he wanted to play. In my tired state, I rolled away from him but he pulled me back and slipped his middle finger inside of me, jolting the sleepiness right out of me. "Axe," I grumbled. "Angel," he mirrored my tone. "What are you doing?" "I need inside of you. Please?" I only replied with another grumble so he pressed his hardness against me and seethed like a salted wound, purring against my neck in that nymphomaniacal way that I was slowly beginning to accept as an integral part of what made Axel, Axel. "Is this how I'm going to wake up every morning? With your cock and fingers halfway inside of me?" "Please, Momma. Your little boy is so hard for you. Been thinking about that pussy since the moment I woke up. Mmm, want inside so bad." "Oh my god," I whispered, feeling the desirous effect of his words prickling all over my body. "Yeah?" He undulated his finger inside of me strategically until I had no choice but to part my legs. "Oh, I can feel just how wet Mommy's sweet pussy is for me. It's getting all over my fingers. So fucking creamy and warm." "Axel," I groaned again. "Get on me, baby. Ride my fucking cock. I've been a good boy. Please?" "I don't think you've been very good at all," I pointed out, chuckling softly as my eyes adjusted to the sunlight coming through the water-spotted windows. "Mm-hmm. Okay, yeah, I've been real bad. Really, really bad. I think you should punish me. Make me hurt," his whispers in my ear grew desperate and I couldn't deny that every indecent word that left his mouth served to arouse me more. I don't know what it was about him that got off so much on being objectified, but once he had me climbing on top of him to ride his cock, I could see the pleasure already burning deep inside of him. His laggard eyes lit up when I mounted him and he rose up on his elbows as he bucked his hips upward, causing me to teeter for a moment until I stilled myself with my palms on his tattooed chest. Axel gripped my right wrist and replaced my hand from his pectoral muscle to his throat. "Come on, Mommy. Fuck me up. Fucking choke me out while you work my nasty cock. Please... I deserve it." The more Axel begged, the more inclined I was to give him what he wanted. It delighted me that he could go from King Asshole to needing to be reduced to nothing but a pole for me to bounce on. I almost forgot how deep and never-ending his sexual appetite was and the days he wanted to feel small and humiliated were nearly equal to the ones that he wanted to feel powerful and dominating. I loved that about him. On the surface, he looked a one-dimensional character to most, but I knew better. Axel had many facets to him, some unpolished and rougher than others but those were the sides that I liked to uncover. There was a soft ore inside of him that nobody else was able to unearth; a nugget of vulnerability that spoke of a need to be loved, accepted and guided. Axel was more than just a danger, more than a simple outlaw. He was also a boy that had slipped through the fingers of society and missed the opportunity to be cherished and nurtured. I think that's why I adored him so. Despite his coarseness, he was only a human reaching out for acceptance. But he was also perverted and completely insatiable when it came to his sexual desires and when he tried to prod me from behind I gasped and turned back to see that evil smirk adorning his face. He snatched his hand away as though he had just been caught stealing cookies and instigated my reaction by smiling precariously. "What? Mommy doesn't like when I touch her pretty little asshole?" "Keep your dirty boy hands where I can see them," I growled. Axel sat up and pulled air through his teeth as his arms wrapped around me, hands cupping and squeezing my breasts. "Let me. Please, Mommy? Wanna touch. Wanna fill every fucking hole you have." His hand then wrapped neatly around my throat, regaining his dominance as he continued to fuck me from behind. "God, I want to fuck that ass," he flared, breath hot on my shoulder. "You're bad," I breathed. He rocked his hips up harshly for a few strokes. "I know. I know I'm bad. I'm so. Fucking. Disgusting." I fell forward onto my hands and made him watch as his wet cock pulled out of me. Crawling away, I let him watch me from behind and when I got up to stand at the edge of the bed, I could see the look of pure lust and wonderment on his face. "What are you gonna do to me, Momma?" He begged my answer. "Come here, naughty boy," I pointed at the edge of the bed until he got up and crawled toward it. Even as he knelt in front of me on the bed, we were at equal height and it was difficult to conjure up the confidence it took to degrade him when he could so easily pin me down and do what he wanted with me. With a lick of his lips, he shimmied as close to the edge as possible, nipped at my bottom lip and snaked his arms around me to constrict me from going anywhere. His strength was unbeatable and when he pried and tried to spread me apart again I tried to push away from him, earning a low growl from the inside of him that sounded like a kettle just beginning to boil. Sometimes I forgot what he was capable of doing and at that moment, I forgot about fucking him and let the memories of a past Axel surface. Even as he kissed me, I felt the distraction pull me out of the moment. He had come close to killing Braun when we had first met, back when I had no idea the affliction that laid dormant inside of him. I couldn't help but think that at any moment, he could do the same to me. "Fine, fine," he murmured when my hips retracted. "I'll stay away for now. But, one day." "One day?" "I'm going to need an all-access pass," he wiggled his eyebrows. With a light slap on the chest, I attempted to dash his hopes of ever being able to penetrate me anally. He giggled mischievously and resumed kissing me, forgetting about his request in favour of dropping his attention to my tits which he scooped up and fondled before closing his lips around one nipple and then the other. His cock still hung between us and I could feel the precum dabbing me when I came up close. Axel pulled his lips from my nipple and stared down at his neglection. When he sat back again, his hand travelled down to encircle his shaft, giving himself a few pumps to restore himself to full solidity. In the morning light, his pale body looked appetizing and I couldn't withhold my hunger. We gorged ourselves on each other, kissing, licking, biting and moaning as we took turns wrestling for dominance. Axel made me slap him across the face a few times and each blow that landed, I felt his dick twitch inside of me and revelled in the purrs that escaped his mouth. But neither of us were destined to reach a climax that morning. The hour that we spent fucking each other ruthlessly was wasted after Axel started taking me from behind again. As he pulled back to spank me, I winced in anticipation of the clout that never came. "What the fuck! Hey!" He yelled. He pulled out of me abruptly and stomped over to the window, ducking down to peer through it while covering himself with one hand. The trailer swayed with the motion and I was left confused for a moment until I realized what had torn Axel's attention away. "What? What's wrong?" I asked. "Some motherfucker was out there in the bushes!" I scrambled to cover myself with the wool blanket that had eschewed itself from the corners of the bed. Axel's severe gait made the entire trailer rock back and forth as he rushed out, fully naked and uncaring in preparation to catch whoever had been trying to get himself a free show but by the time Axel made it outside, the peeper had taken off running. I didn't witness a second of what had happened but I felt the sickly rush of embarrassment nonetheless. All I could see from the glass slats of the trailer window was Axel and his bare ass yelling after the person he had claimed had just been poking in from the overgrown bushes that fenced in the tiny mobile home. My underwear was nowhere to be found so I had to wiggle into my jeans, throw on my top with no bra on and follow outside to cull Axel back indoors before the residents of the park saw him cursing and screaming with no clothes on. The last thing we needed was for the cops to be called on us for disturbing the peace and squatting in an unused trailer in the middle of a country town nobody had ever heard of. "Axel! Get inside!" I hissed. He pointed down the winding dirt road and laughed. "Son of a bitch took off that way." "Did you get a good look at him?" "No, but I bet the cocksucker got a good look at us. You hear me, motherfucker!?" Axel bellowed. "I'll cut your fucking dick off!" "Shut up!" I pulled at his elbow. Axel reefed his arm away from me and turned to go back inside on his own accord. Fuming and still impervious about his nudity, he inspected our bikes to make sure nothing had been tampered with. I looked around to see if anyone's attention had been roused and saw an old man peering from the screen door of a neighbouring trailer. When we made eye contact, he quickly withdrew back into his own quarters, probably in fear of lassoing the anger of the tall, tattooed menace storming around butt-naked. "Axe, get the fuck inside and put some clothes on, goddamnit. There are people around!" "I don't give a fuck!" Axel threw his arms up in the air, forgetting about shielding his crotch in favour of proving a point. Twinging with mutual embarrassment since Axel apparently had none to show, I pushed him to the door until he gave up and went back inside, allowing the screen door to slam shut behind him. I remained outside covering my mouth with my hand to stop myself from laughing until he returned with pants on. "Swear to God if I ever see that sorry son of a bitch again I'll wreck his fucking face," his volume had lowered but the bite behind his words remained. "What did you expect? The whole park probably heard us rocking in there. Of course, some hick motherfuckers are going to come to investigate." Axel tried not to let his smile become apparent but when he looked at me and saw that I was playfully blase about the situation, he relaxed and let out a chuckle. "Yeah, you probably like the attention, don'tcha? Little perve," he reached out to tickle my ribs. "So what do we do now?" I watched Axel put his hands on his jutting hips, survey the surrounding area and then let his eyes fall back to me. "I'm fucking starving and I haven't busted a nut yet. You and I have to take care of that. Preferably not in that order." "Wow. At your service, I guess, your majesty," I scoffed. He delighted in hearing me refer to him like royalty and chased me back inside the trailer to finish where we had left off. ~*~ There was no water in the little ramshackle trailer that Greg had allowed us to spend the night in. Axel inspected the closet-sized bathroom and quickly deduced that even if there was running water, he would have to bend so far at the knees to fit inside that he would still get sprayed directly in the face by the rusty shower-head. Not to mention the toilet that stood two feet away looked like it had received a decade's worth of bowel movements without ever having seen the bristles of a scrub brush. When I peered in and saw Axel with his head tilted to the side to accommodate his height, I giggled and suggested we look elsewhere for somewhere to clean up. Luckily there was a pool and showers located in the centre of Lovesick Park that we made use of. I opted to shower alone so I could actually get cleaned up instead of having to constantly fight off Axel's wandering hands. We both emerged with damp hair and the same clothes on that we had been wearing for the last few days. I sniffed at my armpits and scowled when I was hit with the same odour that had been following me since he had lovingly broken into my room at the Four Thousand's clubhouse. "We really need to find a laundromat or something," I motioned to the perpetual pit-stains of my shirt. Axel gazed down at his own shirt and shrugged. "I'm good." "Your shirt might as well be an apron," I rolled my eyes. "The less material, the less surface area to get dirty." Lovesick Park was more alive during the day and we were able to get a better sense of the place in the daylight. Just down the dirt road from the pool was the pavilion where we had met Greg. The smell of hot grease made our stomachs growl so we ordered enough food to fill us up for the day as we couldn't be sure when the next time food would be made available to us. "What do you suggest we do now? So far I've only seen families, kids and retirees. No sign of your mom. Then again, even if I did see her, I probably wouldn't know it since I haven't even seen a picture of her." There was one photo that I had in my phone of my mother. Rather, it was a photo of a photo that had been on the mantle at home. I snapped a shot of it before stashing the picture frame away in one of the many boxes of my father's things that I didn't want to see anymore. I grudgingly took out my phone and showed Axel the picture. He took the phone from me so he could squint at the photo. A smile unfurled over his smug face and he passed the phone back to me. "That's a fucking picture of you, idiot." "Nope. That's my mom." "Let me see that again!" He snatched the phone back and took a second look. "That looks exactly like you! Okay... I can see the eighties hair is a little different but... Shit." I scoffed at him through a mouthful of food. "So just look for a woman that looks like me." "I think I found me a new mommy," Axel wiggled his eyebrows. "Good. Maybe when we find her you can stay. She has a habit of jumping from guy to guy. I'm sure she would love the idea of taking her own daughter's man." "Pft!" Axel spit. "You think it's going to be that easy to get rid of me? We're getting married." "No, we're not. Marriage is fucking stupid and so are you." "You just stole the opening line of my vows," he nudged my foot under the wooden picnic bench. Try as I might bite back my smile, the way he stared at me knowingly was enough to break down my barriers. I wondered how many more times he would allow me to turn him down before he went crazy. The man sitting adjacent to me was less the man of my dreams and more like a nightmare come to life but I had never felt so vitalized before in my life with him there. if I was being honest with myself, I liked to say no to him only because I never wanted to stop hearing him ask. We scarfed down our food and decided to walk the perimeter of the park to see if we could turn up anything. From the outside, Lovesick Park looked small and self-contained but as we wandered further and further into the depths, we noticed that a good portion of the park was shrouded in a forest. We came upon a small walking bridge made of rickety wood slats that arced over a shallow stream that birds used to bathe in. The stream ran east around a bend, picking up speed and volume as it was joined by other streams until it rushed all at once into a river. There were a few fisherman wading into the water with their olive green boots and rods held up out of the water. Only a few of them pried their eyes away from their leisure to scope the two uncustomary strangers observing them. Axel nodded casually at them as he grasped my hand and pulled me in the direction of a veering trail that opened up to a meadow of long grass. "I think we've gone too far," I pointed out as a crowd of sparrows burst out of a shrub and took to the sky. "Nah, there's still a trail. Let's see where it goes," Axel insisted. The trail narrowed and weaved back into the forest and came out the other side at the opposite end of the park. When I saw more rows of trailers, I kept my eyes open for any sign that could even hint at the whereabouts of my mother. After a couple hours of walking around, everything started to bleed together and each trailer looked the same as the last. Some were closed off, boarded up and locked and others had been well-maintained throughout the years. We neared the end of another road and I was starting to grow weary of searching for seemingly nothing at all. "This is fucking ridiculous. I'm never going to find this bitch," I mumbled. Axel nodded toward something behind me and when I whirled around I saw what he was drawing my attention to. There was a powder blue trailer affixed to a wide deck that was devoid of any lawn furniture and beside it was a small carport housing a couple of old motorcycles. "Think that guy might have any ideas?" Axel asked. "It's a stretch but... I guess it's worth a try." My hesitation was noted by Axel so he rested his flattened palm against my back and gave me a gentle push up the steps toward the door of the trailer. It looked like the door had been cracked open with a crowbar a couple of times but I knocked anyway, stepping way back to allow room for it to swing open. We stood patiently for a minute before Axel shrugged and knocked again for me. "I guess no one's home," I concluded. Axel pointed at the rustling window covers. "Nope. Someone's in there. Maybe they just don't wanna come out to play." I elbowed him to shut up when the door finally opened a crack. A strong smell of cigarettes poured out of the inch-wide opening and I could hardly see the person standing at the door. "What do you want?" A man's gruff voice asked us. I swallowed, breathed in deeply and prepared myself to recite the same speech to the man that I had been repeating for the last few weeks. Every time I posed the question, it sounded more and more pathetic and I swore, as the words left my mouth, it would be the last time I would ask somebody to point me in the direction of my mother. If this was the last breadcrumb of the trail then I would turn around and head back to the port and my father's garage where I belonged. "I'm looking for Darlene Lockley. She's my mom. She looks like me... Rides a motorcycle." "Uh-huh," he grumbled before erupting into a coughing fit. "Um... I was pointed in this direction by the President of the D4T." "I look like a biker to ya?" "Well... I figured I would ask because I saw the bikes in your port." "We're not going to bite there, compadre. You can open up the door," Axel remarked. "Shut up," I hissed, driving my elbow into his side again. "Don't much like your attitude, son. Don't much like the way you two be lookin' either. I smell trouble comin' off ya." "Please! Just ignore him. I'm only looking for my mom. I don't want anything else. It's just... I've been riding a long, long time looking for her and Roy said that she was last seen here." "Roy?" "The President... Of the Dirty Four Thousand Motorcycle Club." "I don't associate with outlaw clubs." "Neither do we! We're not even from a club," I claimed. "You got patches though," he pointed out, choosing to remain hidden behind the door of his trailer. "They're really just for show... I'm from the Port. My dad was a founder of the Sweet Demons." The man let out a dry snort from his nose and cigarette smoke leaked from the crack of the door and caused my eyes to dry out. "More outlaws." "The Demons haven't been associated with crime for a long time," I explained. "Come on, man! Either you've seen her or you haven't. Why do you have to dick us around?" "Axel shut the fuck up!" The door opened with a leaden whine and the smell of smoke mixed with the odor of a man that looked like he hadn't bathed in ages. Swollen, red and purple feet were shoved into stained slippers and if his toenails were anything like his fingernails, they would have been thick as callouses and so yellow they were almost brown. The man had a severe beer gut that looked like he was smuggling a globe beneath his oil-stained t-shirt. He had a crown of scraggly brown hair that wrapped around his pate and a bushy beard that acted as an ash-catcher for his cigarettes. Axel took a step back and covered the lower half of his face in the crook of his arm. "If you want information about Dar-Dar, you're gonna to have to do me a favour first. So I know I can trust ya." "Christ Almighty," Axel muffled his disgust. "You know her?" I asked, disregarding Axel's reaction though I was feeling similarly the longer the stale air of the man's trailer seeped out. "I know of her. Spicy little rocket, kinda like you only... Meaner." "Sounds like her," I said with distaste. "You're going to have to go out and buy me a carton of smokes. And groceries." Axel scoffed loudly, "does it look like we have money to burn?" "I'll give you the dough but you have to make the run. The girl stays here." We both grimaced at each other until I relented with a heavy sigh. "Just go, Axe." "She'll be fine. I'm harmless. Can't do much anyway what with my diabetes." Axel threw up his hands. "Well, you're going to have to write me a list there, chief! I don't know what kind of food you eat! Cheese puffs? Fruit loops? Fuck." The man cracked his first smirk at Axel's frustration. "I'll get ya a list. Wait here." The trailer door shut and as soon as the man waddled away from the entrance Axel turned to me with a look of concern heavy on his brow. "I don't really want to leave you here with this stinky motherfucker! Do you really need to find your mom that bad? I don't know where the nearest fucking store is. What if he... I don't know... Tries to touch you or something?" I found his apprehension to be oddly charming and I traced a finger down his chest. "Aw, you're afraid! Axel... I've never seen you scared before." "I'm not fucking scared. We just don't know this guy. We have to be careful." "Don't worry about it. The guy can hardly breathe, let alone walk. What makes you think I can't hold my own against him?" Axel bit his lip for a moment. "When we get home... We're getting you a gun." Laughter burst forth from my throat as the trailer door opened again, revealing our new diabetic friend that had promised us the answers I had been searching for. He held out a piece of note paper and Axel snatched it to scan the list after thoroughly rolling his eyes and making his disdain obvious. "Milk, pop tarts, waffles, pancake mix, eggs... Backin?" "Bacon. Maple if they got it," he waved a few twenty dollar bills for Axel to take. "And a carton of Paul Slims." "You sure you want all this? How about some vegetables? You look like you could use a salad." "Let me fucking die in peace, will ya? Go get that stuff for me and then I'll tell ya what I know." Before Axel turned to leave he had one more question to pose. "Suppose we hadn't shown up? Who would you have to go get these things for you?" "I'd just call a delivery service. You can get anything delivered nowadays." He tapped his head and pointed at the man standing above us on the step of his trailer. "Good thinking, compadre. I guess I'll be back soon." "Take your time." "Yeah, yeah. Don't get any funny ideas about my lady here. I'm trusting you with her." "I'll be fine, Axe. Just go. Come back quick." I watched as he turned on the heel of his boot to start off in the direction of the smaller trailer we had spent the night in. Axel looked back once, shook his head and continued on. I smiled at him until I turned back around and saw that the door was being held open for me. "Oh... I'm fine out here," I quickly excused. He grunted in disagreement and pushed the screen door open further. The look of the inside of his trailer more than matched his overall appearance and that's what I was afraid of. The smell was so strong that I could feel the back of my throat start to water. It was a nauseating scent of decay and filth and when I figured he wouldn't be taking no for an answer, I held my breath and ducked inside. There was a lamp on casting a dull bit of light in an otherwise murky trailer that hadn't known the care of a mop or a duster in a long time. The state of the place made me miss the rickety little trailer that we had stayed in. The stench of cigarettes was embedded into every fiber of every piece of furniture that he had and the walls appeared to be dripping with dark brown nicotine stains. On the wall, there was a framed picture of Elvis that had washed out so much it became only a sepia outline of the King crooning on stage in Las Vegas. "You must be Angel then," he said after he had settled into a reclining chair pocked with cigarette burns. "So you know a lot about my parents?" "Hard not to notice a woman pulling in on a bike the size of hers." I chewed my cheek as I stood in the midst of his dwelling. My temples began to throb from the clashing smells of body odor and overflowing ashtrays. "I didn't, uh... Catch your name." "Name's Theo." "Nice to meet you, Theo." "Likewise. Smoke?" I had been craving a cigarette until I stepped into his trailer so I shook my head in polite declination. The thought of adding to the shroud of smoke I was in made my stomach turn. "I'm fine." "You oughta have a seat while we wait for your boyfriend to come back," Theo pointed to a booth-style sitting area complete with a table across from him as he lit a cigarette in the flame of a silver butane lighter. The table reminded me of a 50's style diner with his gold-flecked enamel and sea-foam green upholstery Not wanting to appear rude, I took a seat and looked up at the small tube TV that was playing a soap opera by the looks of it. The screen was distorted with snow and the audio crackled every once in a while, making it nearly impossible to tell what the actors looked like. Growing bored of that quickly, I resorted to just looking at my own boots while Theo puffed away on his cigarette. "Haven't seen Darlene in quite some time," Theo spoke up between shallows puffs. "Oh yeah? Same here," I chuckled. "That's actually why I'm looking for her. I haven't seen her since I was twelve." "Certainly ain't twelve anymore, huh?" "Certainly not," I squirmed. "Good thing you brought your boyfriend along," Theo remarked ominously. "What makes you say that?" I was unsure if I even wanted to hear his response. "Could be dangerous lookin' for somebody that don't wanna be found." I shrugged. "I guess so. I don't know much about her." "Imagine there's a lot you two need to talk about, what with your old man passin'." "Yeah," I frowned. I didn't much want to talk about my father with anybody. The memory of my dad was still freshly cut and the wound had yet to scab over since every time I seemed to forget about him, someone tore off the membrane by mentioning his death. Theo must have noticed my sour expression because he sighed and stubbed out his cigarette dejectedly. "Sorry to hear that, kid. You know... He was known far and wide. I'm sure people will still be talkin' about him for a long time. "Wel,l I wish they wouldn't." "My apologies." "It's fine. I just... Hate reliving it. We were close." "I imagine so. Imagine he'd be keepin' you quite close considerin' you look just like your ma." "Guess so," I dismissed. It was a challenge not to stare at the filth that Theo surrounded himself in and even harder not to gawk at his nebulous legs bulging with blood and veins. Our conversation was dry after he had brought up my father but as soon as I heard a motorcycle in the distance, my attention perked. Theo looked down at his wristwatch and grunted. "'Bout damn time." There was no sweeter sound than the chugging of the Widowmaker pulling up to the trailer. I was desperate for fresh air and when Axel opened the door and let in a little bit of sunlight, I smiled at him. "Both of you look too damn happy to see me," he laughed. Axel carried in two plastic grocery bags and set them down on the table in front of me. With a sigh, he rested his hand on his hips and looked around expectantly. "Well?" Axel pressed "Are you going to tell us where Darlene is or what? I brought you your stuff while you held my woman hostage so come on now. Out with it!" "You know... Darlene runs with a couple real questionable folks. I'd be careful around them if she still keeps the same company." "I think we've handled our fair share of questionable folks, wouldn't you say, Angel?" With a roll of my eyes, I replied, "just my entire damn life." "You two seem like all right kids. I wouldn't want you gettin' hurt, is all I'm sayin'." "Theo, I appreciate the concern," I nudged him toward the point. "Last I heard your ma had a cottage up on Ashby Lake. Real small town. She showed me a picture last she was down. Looked like her property was right on the lake." "You wouldn't happen to have an address?" I asked. "Not exactly. But there are about a dozen and a half cottages around the lake. You go door-to-door and I bet you'd be able to find her real easy." Axel nodded and then turned to me. "All right! Well, there you go. Ashby Lake. Where the hell is that?" "'Bout two hours North of here." "We can make it by the end of the day if we go now," I told Axel even though he already knew it. "Stay safe out there, kids." ~*~ The closer we rode to the lake, the more my heart began to stammer. Wave after wave of anxiety began to hit me and as we slowed to eighty miles an hour, the vibration of my bike beneath me started to make me feel nauseous. It was only after I increased my speed and flew around a bend in the road that the frequency stopped rumbling my entire body. Axel threw up his hand as if to ask me what the hell I was doing going twenty over the limit but I just couldn't stomach the chugging of my bike. The roof of my mouth began to water and I was overcome with the urge to vomit. I had to pull over or risk throwing up in my helmet. A long stretch of road flanked by nothing but trees was all that I could see for miles and I wasn't certain I would be able to clear it before bile rose to the top of my throat. It took Axel a couple of minutes to pull up after I had veered off the road and parked my bike so I could rip off my helmet and try to still my erratic breathing. His wheels kicked up rocks as he slowed to a full stop and turned off the engine before dropping the heel of his boot against the kickstand. "You okay?" His voice was muffled by the bandanna he had wrapped around the lower half of his face. I bent at the hips and supported myself with my hands on my knees and tried to let the regurgitation happen. Soon I felt a hand on my back and I groaned as I stared at the ground and began to dry heave. "Angel... Jesus. What's wrong?" He asked after I had retched a few times and brought up nothing but acrid spit. "I feel sick!" I yelled. He snatched his hand away and took a couple of steps back to give me the space I needed. My head began to swim and dizziness accompanied my discomfort until I sat down and tried to take in more air. With my head hanging between my legs, I heard the crunching of gravel beneath his boots as he walked away and came back to tap me on the shoulder. An unopened bottle of water was held out for me and I accepted it with a minimal nod. "Are you all right, babe?" My breathing shuddered involuntarily. It settled in that I was having an anxiety attack and the more I thought about it the worse it got. "God, Axe, I don't want to fucking do this anymore. I don't want to see her. This is all so pointless." "What are you talking about? You came all this way. We're almost there! We have a few miles to go." "I know! And now it seems like the biggest waste of time. I should have just stayed in the Port and continued to forget about her. Now it all seems so... Absurd. What am I going to do? Ask her why she didn't show up to my dad's funeral like I expect any good answer? The bitch doesn't want to be found... So why am I looking for her?" Axel crossed one boot over the other and sat down beside me in the dirt. "Because... You have unfinished business. You have questions that need to be answered and if I know you at all... You're not one to just let those questions fester. You need this. You need the closure. It's the only thing that's going to help you get over your dad's passing." I was silenced after what he had said and when he put his arm around my shoulder I laid my head on his and closed my eyes. The gentle wind carried the smell of pine trees to my nostrils and I sucked it in until the queasiness dissipated. Axel was right and I was surprised that the words of comfort he offered actually worked to calm my nerves. He pressed a kiss to my temple and rubbed my back. "I'm right here with you, Angel. I've got nowhere else to be... There's nothing else on this planet for me except for you. I know it's hard to face your demons but... Fuck. You of all people can handle this. And I'll be right here behind you. Ride or die, baby." A smirk cracked over my face and I leaned into him a little more so he could wrap his other arm around me in a tight embrace. Our leather chirred together while he rested his forehead against mine. "You can do this," Axel whispered. "You're better than her. You don't fucking give up." "Okay," I rasped. "Let's go find her, say the things that need to be said, get back on our bikes, go home and get fuckin' married."
