When shit-talking any gods, please refer to the nickname sheet. Use the fake name provided so others can still understand you while also making sure the god in question doesn’t hear and smite you.

Annabeth’s stepmom, Mrs Chase, is always invited, but she only has the time to show up every now and then, usually on weekends. The club helps her when she needs time to decompress without being alone, rant about her kids (all of them) to people who understand, and be reminded that her life isn’t as dull and monotonous as it feels sometimes— talking about how their children are demigods whose lives are based in Greek mythology helps with the last one.

Sometimes, because her only visitor is Hermes, the club will make a field trip to May Castellan’s house. One person talks to her to keep her busy while the others clean up the house and cook her a hearty meal. She doesn’t often mistake them for Luke because they’re adult women, but when it happens, they play along. She’s an honorary member whether she knows it or not.

It’s mostly just gossip and wine-time. An hour or two to unwind with no distractions or responsibilities, just chill. There’s a splash of book club too, added by (and for) Sally where they read awful books, dissect what makes them shitty, and point and laugh. Eventually, they all end up contributing an activity. For Esperanza, they have nights where she teaches useful basic machinery lessons and the occasional getting drunk and trying to build Ikea furniture without instructions. Mrs Chase is a good cook, but also freakishly good at baking, so sometimes they all work together to bake excessively fancy dishes/desserts and eat it all with drinks. they accidentally get really into making sourdough and now have what is the equivalent of a class pet jar of sourdough starter (they named it Rye-an).

Aphrodite attends once to check it out after hearing about it while snooping on her OTP: Percy mentions it in passing to Annabeth when she asks how Sally’s been doing. Aphrodite pops in with a flourish, they decide that despite not being a mortal, she can be a member if she wishes. She stays the whole time, and even though it’s tense and stilted in her presence, she loves it. So at the end of the meeting, she announces that instead of an honorary member, she’d rather be their patron god; she’s willing to sponsor and bless the gathering in the name of Aphrodite and Girls Supporting Girls if they make a small shrine to do a food offering every time they meet up. The club agrees (sweatdropping because what are they supposed to do, deny a god?), and that’s that. (During baking days, Aphrodite’s offering is part of what they made.) Aphrodite also says she’ll keep the club's existence lowkey— from Athena as well because that’d be “just so awkward, not to mention I already called dibs”. Her sponsorship/protection doubles as her being the executor of Ominous And Unescapable Consequences for anyone who airs out business told in club confidence. Gossip is great, but not when you backstab your girlies for it.

I think we deserve an alternative book where Esperanza is alive. Then she and Sally could start a club for mothers of Greek demigods + extra demigods they adopted

he hoped Oscar thought mostly the same as him and he did :3 as always!

like the way it’s always Lando making sure Oscar is seen and represented and noticed in media and social media etc bc Oscar is still focusing just on his driving and leaving other people to do the media and networking and non driving stuff - bc it’s still early in his career! and Lando was NOT a natural at on camera stuff when he started in Formula 1 and was painfully shy and he remembers what it’s like when your teammate knows what they’re doing and you don’t yet! Oscar sometimes takes the lead like Silverstone 2024 when he specifically said he wanted to cheer them/Lando up but otherwise he knows better than most (and literally says) that Lando is comfortably settled and established as a major player on the grid.

and there’s something very emotional in how Lando made this huge leap in himself and as a driver when he became The Leader and The Senior Authority and found a teammate who was genuinely overjoyed to have Lando be The Face and The Guy - esp when Lando was so dismayed and uncomfortable with the idea of being in that position in a dynamic at first. and that Oscar stalking/fanboying/knowing Lando so well as a driver and all he’s shared on stream and social media, means that Oscar knew Lando would be a great leader and wouldn’t be unwilling or intimidated by the idea of letting Oscar have an equal share in certain things. that Lando wouldn’t be toxic or arrogant or possessive (which certain group of Lando’s own fans often misrepresent him as bc they have warped ideas of him !!) and would actually thrive from having someone close to him in age and who was extra hungry - because unlike Carlos or Daniel and now Lando - Oscar has everything to prove about himself. he’s done exceptionally well but as someone staring down years of waiting in the wings not too long ago, he’s far from feeling established in the way he wants to be one day. Lando remembers that feeling very well so he’s the perfect one to see the bigger picture for both of them and have the most experience because he can see from both perspectives so recently!

like it’s just so sweet and subtle and specific to their dynamic in ways that make the whole brocedes/bust up/melodrama expectations keep falling flat. it’s not that they don’t argue or battle and it would be extremely weird if they didn’t want win all the time (and a 24yo driver with no major money behind him is NOT a candidate for a “spare” or support driver). it’s that they slot together so well even when it comes to drama and they hop on a plane together giggling and chatting mere hours later.

The Ghost Hounds' base was unusually quiet tonight, the shadows cast by flickering lanterns dancing across the walls. The sad/funny part of the Chosen One Club is that there's an obscenely huge amount of Chosen Ones in fiction.

Even if you just look at the ones propagandized for real and not the ones assumed to be the right person while the prophecy itself is fake, I can think of twenty cases each off the top of my head from literature, more than twenty from anime, and like so many people from video games. RPGs alone have it as a common staple of the genre.

So although this is a tiny number of people, I can easily see it be just one of countless many other similar support groups.

An infinite number of support groups where all the chosen ones get sorted at seemingly random is incredibly funny and absolutely correct for this verse.

yeah I know Luke’s been running around saying he ‘can be a bit of a pessimist’ but I just wanna give him a little bit more credit than that. he’s been through so much and yet we’ll hear him talking about times that are ‘marred with trauma’ but still he can’t ever regret for getting him to where he is today. this whole year he’s been making an effort to do things that scare him and he even finds hard, he’s been pushing himself out of his comfort zone and doing 1000 solo interviews as well as his shows and last year he went to bogota to film 7 music videos in 2 days and believed he could do it and he did. he talks about mental health related things in such a way that’s filled with acceptance, not complaint or bitterness but dare I say even optimism, dropping horrifying little descriptions to already heartbreaking songs since 2021 and then turning around and saying writing songs is what gets him through it, he ‘wouldn’t have a good relationship with anything’ if he didn’t make them but he’s super proud of himself after and wasn’t put off by how much work it was gonna be even though it did make him apprehensive and he goes and mentions how it wasn’t easy. you look at everything we know of him for the last decade and a half and realise, maybe it was never easy. but someone once described optimism as curiosity + resilience rather than being naively happy all the time in denial of everything going on around. and with that active brain and all the things he figures out while writing all his beautiful songs there’s definitely curiosity there. and with everything he’s been through to keep choosing to be himself and do whatever he needs to do there’s so much resilience. and I’ve seen this spirit in the songs of sounds good feels good and 5sos5, as well as littered through wfttwtaf and boy; every project being a quiet, kinda emo, statement of survival. I’m just one fan with too many opinions but this is something I’ve always loved about the band, and a decent portion of it was always brought to the table by luke and idk I just think we should acknowledge it
