Note
to start off this is long and rambly but please bear with me
you occasionally reblog pro/antiship discourse on the side of "real people are not haunted by fiction or people's opinions" and you generally seem to be very much against the idea of trying to hold people's thoughts against them etc in not phrasing this well but I hope you get my meaning. How does that affect the way you write about Renn?
Aspen and most of the other crew mates are deeply disturbed by him saying that he thinks genetic engineering of brains could sometimes be useful, to the point where his single defining quality is "the guy who supports Lyson projects" and somebody was willing to murder him over it. From a modern perspective what he said doesn't seem incredibly radical (I definitely disagree with the concept, but it's not even close to my least favorite conservative opinion). Maybe I'd be angrier if it was someone minimizing a real tragedy like he was in-universe? That probably played into it.
I'm not trying to imply Aspen's thoughts are your thoughts, or that you should've written them more similar to you, but it is a really interesting dynamic and wondering how/why you came up with it.
Lyson projects have nothing to do with genetic engineering. They're about emotional/behavioural control via brain damage.
I'm not really sure what you mean about people's opinions haunting people. People's opinions influence their behaviour, which absolutely can cause problems for other people. Somebody who thinks gay people are mentally ill predators out to corrupt children is dangerous in groups, in the voting booth, and in general life because they hold that opinion.
I don't agree with Aspen on most things, and this Lyson disagreement got into the story the same way all the other ones do -- I come up with a topical conundrum about care, community, liberty or justice, and throw as many different viewpoints at it as possible from different crew members. Which crew member I personally agree with is more or less random; their positions are chosen by their personalities, not mine. I'm interested in giving the reader a space to consider a messy issue, not forcing them to listen to my opinion specifically. (If I wanted to do that, I'd just get into online discourse about it instead).
In the case of Lyson projects, the issue is pretty obviously the question of risk and autonomy in the care of vulnerable patients, and the question of benefits of certain treatments vs. their potential for abuse. I was specifically thinking about euthanasia and MAID when I wrote it but there are literally uncountable other examples of the same conundrum, including the more literal (long discontinued) parallel of performing medical lobotomies.
If you're interested in discussing the ethical stuff that shows up in TTOU specifically, the Discord is constantly having those conversations.

JJ says that to be honest he felt a bit excited but also stressed at first before starting the filming of Euthanasia cause it’s his first time filming for One31 and he didn’t know if his skills were good enough for One31. But upon starting filming, he felt very impressed by the filming crew from the first and to the last day. JJ says that it’s was fun too. JJ isn't sure if the final product will be great but he knows that it has the potential to be great. He hopes everyone will follow it since it's a very intense story.

heya! i'm charlie! she/her :]
i'm here to talk about what it's like to work at a pokemon shelter, share my studies in pokemon behavior, and help provide education for people who want to give their pokemon the best care they can. feel free to send me any questions you have!
here's a current list of my pokemon:
hocus: male pidove. standard blue coloration. pair bonded to pocus.
pocus: male pidove. blue check. pair bonded to hocus.
presto!: female pidove. blue t-check. the boss of the pidove polycule. former gym mon.
spicy mayo: female umbreon. leucistic. fully deaf and wears a special vibrating collar- not a shock collar!
hueli: female tarountula. hangs out in my backyard enclosure with the pidove. she has two little white spots over her right eye that make her stand out.
plus a rotating crew of foster and rehab pokemon!
previously owned pokemon:
remus (now called RM-24423): roaring moon. obtained as a rehab after escaping from the great crater and kept for research purposes. released back into the great crater on november 19th, 2023.
voilĂ : female rowlet. she was a gift from a family member and has hisuian genes. transferred to the naranja-uva research aviary in cortondo on december 10th, 2023. she is now a hisuian decidueye.
iris: senior male archeops. previously a flight show pokemon at an aviary and adopted following his retirement. passed away june 1st, 2024
//OOC: just a quick note on how this blog is run: i treat pokemon very much like animals! this blog is focused entirely on the games rather than the anime and does not treat instances of sapient pokemon as real. things may get a little gritty as i do talk about things like euthanasia, animal death, and animal medicine. i will do my best to tag those, but let me know if i miss something!
this is primarily an ask blog, not a roleplay blog! i also tag each ask with the pokemon and themes that are involved in it. repeat asks and roleplay asks will get deleted.
here's an faq you can consult before asking charlie about something!

Which of Lucy's suitor squad would be the most frightening as a vampire?
A close call between Jack and Quincey.
Quincey is the fighter, the weapon wielder, the huntsman-adventurer archetype out of their crew. He'd be a significantly effective and badass bloodsucker. But badass does not equal Frightening. For that, it has to be Jack.
Dr. John Seward was already fighting off some less than ethical 'what if?' scenarios while human. Vivisection and euthanasia are two of his favorite words. Straitjackets and covert drugging are beloved tools of the trade, alongside his lancet. Assuming the asylum was still 'his' territory, either because no one realized he'd died/turned, or because his undead self simply couldn't be barred from the building?
Patients and staff alike would have very, very good reason to be afraid.

Henk
Let me tell you about Henk.
Henk was an accident, a child born a decade after his brothers and sisters. He had this birth defect that slurred his speech, and impeded his movements, making it seem like he was drunk 24/7. This deviation caused Henk’s religiously zealot of a father to never recognize him as a child of his own, but rather as a child of the devil. He divorced his wife over that sentiment when Henk was a boy. And that wife, Henk’s mother; the only person to ever love him, died shortly after. Resulting in him being outcast — no, downright hated — by his brothers and sisters.
Henk grew up to have one friend, my father. They had a lifelong relationship, that, after due consideration, I would not call a pity-friendship. Dad pitied him, make no mistake; there was too much to be pitied, but he treated Henk as human. A friend, at that.
They met at a youth center my dad ran, called The Monastery — ironically so, but we’ll get to that — and dad got Henk involved in managing things. I guess those were the heydays. Late teens, early twenties.
Henk made other ‘friends’ after that. He was trusting in the good of man. So when he went vacationing, he gave his peers his house-key, asking if they’d feed the dog for a couple of weeks. And when he returned his house was emptied, and the dog was dead.
That was Henk.
Such was the life of Henk.
A social man, banned from society for his slurred speech and impeded movements. Never seen as an equal, but as a disease. And I cannot stress enough how I am not an exception. Picking up the landline, hearing:
“Hel-lo... itss... HENK...”
Rolling my eyes, calling for dad.
One time my sister turned pale as a sheet, running, shouting:
“Dad! Dad! Henk’s drunk chlorine!”
And I rolled my eyes again, a heartless-bastard child. But, in my defence, you have to see I was completely oblivious of suicides at the time, let alone the concept of death. Some people never get to a point of understanding. I have. Hence the guilt. Hence this eulogy of Henk.
Henk was a man who’d habitually get punished for minding his own business by the conscientious part of humanity. Imagine that. More definingly, he was someone who, by the callous rest, got treated like a big steaming pile of shit. Flies always circled around him to take advantage. Henk attracted human evil, and spent his life searching for proof that he, too, could fit.
That’s why he always tried.
Then, the benefit of doubt kept killing him.
Henk once gave a big goodbye party. My dad didn’t attend. Afterwards he took some sleeping pills and put a plastic bag over his head, sealing it at his neck with a tie rip. But the sleeping pills didn’t kick in soon enough, and he panicked; tearing the plastic off his face. Henk collapsed and woke up to his place, trashed, because he would have been dead, and people didn’t hesitate to violently celebrate this predicament.
He called dad, afterwards, and dad made me part of the cleanup crew. We drove there on a Sunday. They were making small talk, and were reminiscing The Monastery. Just talking, while teenage-me was put to work; dustpan and brushing the perimeter. Everything was shattered.
I muttered:
“What a bunch of bastards.”
“I— ... wass G-GOING to-die”, Henk said, apologetically. As if his death was a freebee for all this dumbass destruction.
“... but you chickened out, didn’t you?”, dad chuckled. And the two of them burst out in a laughter I will never understand.
“I did, I... DID.”
Henk took to medicine, after that. Which at first didn’t really help him, mentally, but did cause him to shed his literal skin. He got blisters all over his body, and when they peeled, he was smooth as a baby’s butt.
Henk once, or twice, drove his 60 km/h limited disabled carriage over the highway to meet up with dad. I am only now realizing he wasn’t an idiot, dad was just that important to him.
He had enough of life after he turned sixty. He wanted to — no, yearned — to go back to his mom. He asked for euthanasia, but, even though it is legal in my country, his GP wouldn’t touch that possibility with a ten-foot pole. Henk was part of the bible belt, you see.
By that doctor, word got to town. And Henk was flooded with letters from neighbours and other townsmen, who never gave him the light of day, but now wanted to assure his descension to hell by quoting biblical name-colon-numbers.
No, they did not want to convince him into heaven. They wanted him to be sure to burn for eternity. Henk answered them all, individually:
“I only want to be with mother.”
An answer, unaccepted.
Henk deteriorated further. In slurred speech and impeded movements. He entreated his death-wish to the specialist treating him. That man turned out the key to his freedom.
He said:
“Henk, we’ve been treating you for seizures for fifteen years. And if you stop taking this particular medicine, it will all be over real quick. Just make sure you’re not in pain.”
Henk calls my dad to take care of his finances. Shares his after-death wish. Then, signs up for a wind-down unit. It’s a nice mansion among nature. Dad visits him the first day after he refrained from taking his medicine. They talk about fucking the system by overdrawing Henk’s bank balance, as they did — goddamn hippies — Second day, Henk’s already pumped full of morphine, and, ultimately, dead.
Years and years of fighting for euthanasia, and all it took was one doctor who said: “Stop taking your meds.”
“Stop fighting God”, for the more religiously inclined. But those were the ones who would’ve kept Henk from his mother’s arms. Those, who dream of death, but fear the choice of death.
Henk was cremated.
Dad took his ashes to the river banks, where Henk used to play as a kid; before his dad left his mom, and before he was outcasted by his kin. There was a small window of childhood, and innocence; gullible years that kept Henk living for, say, a good sixty years.
Three months later, we saw that exact spot had sprouted an oak tree. And we left feeling hope for Henk. One year later the municipality had razed and leveled the river banks, and none of us could decide where he could be.
That was Henk.

I don't remember this at all so I don't even know if its part of The Lotus Tree or not, lmao, sorry Kasumi you are so boring up until, uuuuuuuuuuh about 40 minutes from now actually
So Reverie wakes up, happy new year, time to head downstairs to
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
no no no no no non on onojnkofidflasjk NO
NOOOOO
no!
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
no
inhales
okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I, in real life, staring at my Odin, literally out loud said, "Oh fuck ALL the way off."
Tumblr media
Anyway, we meet up at the shrine by luck, hahhaaha what a crazy random happenstance.
Also: HARU! MY GOD! WHAT A KNOCKOUT! I feel like her kimono might cost more than my fucking car.
But there is already a very weird tension in the air when the group gets together. They all meet up at a shrine that has no visitors because it seems like no one in the world is wishing for anything because their lives are so perfect, so the crew is like "well! this was nice. uh see ya!" and the vibes are so bad. Immediately everything feels like a world encased in glass, like a pinned insect that just got a shot of euthanasia and is starting to lock into place.
It is fucking EERIE as shit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh my god I'm gonna sharpen an axe and cut down your Lotus Tree, Maruki, I swear to god
Tumblr media
"Would you join the Phantom Thieves" as an indicator that all is perfect and no one needs to do anything is sure Something.
Somehow, just watch me, I will find a way to blame this all on Mishima again. I'm already trying to calculate the trajectory.
Tumblr media
SPITTAKE
I FUCKIGN HOLLARED OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
I don't want to sound like the average Atlus developer right now, Morgana, but I think you may have gained some weight.
Also, sidebar: COWARDS for changing Morgana's voice actor for this. COWARDS!!!!! Cassandra Lee Morris has been doing fucking WORK with this character, I literally would rather her continue voicing him with a pitch modulation effect than swapping the VA, /HISSES ANGRILY
Anyway. Reverie and I are both in complete unity at the moment because all of this is Fucked.
Tumblr media
Again, me, IRL, shouting "NO" at my Odin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oh i feel ill from this, this is horrendous. Maruki, you got a fucking storm coming, and i have a fusioned Izanagi-no-Okami with your name on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT REVERIE HERE. So like I've ranted about how the P4MC was such a non-character while Reverie is so so much more. I can feel how freaked out he is even while he's still a mostly silent protagonist. The fear he feels as he tries to make sense of this situation and starts to wonder how far it spreads is fucking radiating from his posture and how he's watching everyone from over his popped collar and event he way he hasn't turned the chair around to face them, he is cheated away from everyone.
God, it's amazing. I have a lot of issues with P5R but the protagonist is a triumph.
Tumblr media
Oh, immediately before he said a single fucking thing. He knows. He knows. He walks in and takes one look around and he knows.
Which in of itself is fascinating and I wanna sink my teeth into what that means.
Everyone in this world is getting their desires. No! No that's incorrect. What they are getting is their pain taken away. I remember Maruki's absolutely batshit closing speech as he left the school in November.
Everyone is getting a life where the biggest traumatic moments did not happen. Futaba never lost her mother and thus Sojiro never lost his best friend. Morgana gets to be human because he admires humans so much. Ryuji was never kicked off the track team. Haru never had the falling out that lead to her father's death.
But Reverie? I don't know what he gets. Before the switch flipped on the Lotus Tree, Sae revealed that the woman who was involved in Reverie's false assault accusation might testify, so his record might even be overturned.
So we have Reverie, and we have Akechi. The two Wild Cards who were puppets of a bored god (who, uh, since Philemon isn't actually involved in this I don't really know anymore what Yaldabaoth's whole deal was but whatever, lean with it rock with it).
I don't know if you can undo the trauma of being Goro Akechi.
... I'm thinking about Reverie, and about the constant drumbeat of his connection to Akechi. Wanting to keep a promise.
I just had a really horrible thought but also it's so gay that I dunno if Atlus would Go There. We'll see.
Tumblr media
I know I have never been happier to see you. Been a while, Beige Boy. Love the outfit, actually, you look great in actual colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
/points directly at this
Did Akechi survive or did Maruki being him back because Reverie had unfinished business with him.
That is my question.
Don't answer it, anyone, but what I am thinking is either Akechi will reveal how he survived the Palace (unlikely) or it turns out he fucking didn't and this was the start of the Lotus Tree.
Anyway, Akechi reveals that he was being questioned for the Shido stuff and then they just.... let him go. No charges. He's free. Which is impossible, obviously. And now Wakaba Isshiki is walking around alive.
Tumblr media
that lil pose is so gay. i wonder if Akechi is meant to be Actually Gay. serious question. like, we got Actually Queer characters in P4 so we know the people at Atlus know gay people exist, but this game has been scrubbed clear of any queerness.
except Akechi has such intense gay vibes and, sure I'll say it, mannerisms that I wonder if he is subtextually meant to be gay. especially since to my recollection, every male character in this game has been mentioned to be attracted to women except him. like, I did notice that, thank you.
((ALSO, SIDEBAR: YOU KNOW WHAT I MISS FROM P3 AND P4? THE GIRLS HAVING CRUSHES ON EACH OTHER. I miss the casual flirtation and interest all the girls had together. That's also been stripped out of P5 and it sucks.))
anyway what the fuck was I saying. Akechi gay, he and Reverie need to investigate.
Tumblr media
And then Kasumi calls to be like "heeeeeeeeeeey so sorry to bother you buuuuuut that palace we ran into at the stadium is back????? is that okay?"
Tumblr media
Okay another thing, sorry that this post is like All About Akechi but
lmao Akechi without his mask is a delight. this man is a bitch and he does not give a fuck and nothing in this world or the next impresses him. it is for real so fun how his cadence and register have subtly changed, he doesn't soften his syllables as much anymore, and he is direct as a gunshot.
Between him and Maruki, this whole segment of the game is like Freaks Only, Normies GTFO and I am thrilled. I am a freak, it's me. This is for me.

Okay maybe I’m gonna sound like a lunatic but hear me out here. This is my terror theory:
Hickey never killed anyone.
Gibson: he was dying anyway so this was purely a noble, heroic act of euthanasia to ease his suffering. Vets do this, we don’t call them murderers. But maybe we should?
Macdonald: explicitly an accident! 😁 and he looked like he felt really bad about it too
The dog: he said it broke its leg and as Mr Hickey is such a trustworthy and reliable member of the crew I believe him. I simply don’t think he would lie to a senior officer.
Farr: we didn’t see it happen so who’s to say he didn’t collapse from an undiagnosed heart condition and Hickey was kneeling over him with a knife in hand to perform emergency surgery? And he was half naked because he gave Farr his clothes to keep him warm? What a generous individual!
Irving: he was homophobic and Hickey’s a gay man so I think we can all agree that stabbing him 23 times in the chest was an act of self defence. Next!
The Netsilik family: this one was hard I can’t lie. However you spin it it’s just bad optics to kill a six year old. But… we never see it on screen, it happens between episodes. So, no one can say for sure that Irving didn’t turn out to just be asleep instead of dead, and got up and killed the family, perhaps because he thought they were gay, and then Hickey bravely killed him to end his rampage. We just don’t know!
Everyone killed in Tuunbaq’s attack on the camp: now it’s very easy to lay the blame at Hickey’s feet for invoking Tuunbaq’s wrath. But we’ve already discussed how this is Irving’s fault instead so let’s move on. His revenge from beyond the grave to clear out all the gays on the expedition. Shameful.
Everyone killed in Tuunbaq’s final attack (Tozer, Hodgson, Armitage etc): you could argue this is even more Hickey’s fault than the last one. And it’s true that he did take them all there, chain them together so they couldn’t escape, and deliberately call Tuunbaq to their location. Certainly none of those men would have died right then if he hadn’t done that. But let’s take a look at the bigger picture. Would those men have died at all if Sir John had listened to Crozier and turned the ships around so they didn’t get stuck in pack ice? NO. And frankly I think trying to pin it on a working class gay man when the true culprit is upper class and straight is very telling. Try examining your prejudices.

Books I'm working on/completed:
Operation Blackout (2018)
Special Agent Morgan Connor's job is simple: track down humans with supernatural abilities and assess their threat level. When he looks into the Starr family, he stumbles upon more than he was expecting- sibling Others. The youngest, Cassie, is taken into protective custody while the elder, Orion, is forced to become the Bureau's newest asset. But the government isn't the only one interested in the siblings. Connor and Orion must contend with a group of renegade Others and the mysterious Mr. Lionhart while trying to uncover why both are so interested in the Starr family.
Whisper Glen (Summer/Fall 2025)
Aimless Rachel Brooks always wanted to have an exciting adventure like the heroes of her favorite books, but living in 1998 rural West Virginia limited her prospects to mere daydreams. Until the ghost of her Nana tells her about the town's population of magical creatures and Rachel finds her little world completely upended. Rachel begins studying under Nana to learn her responsibilities, but things quickly become complicated. Whisper Glen has been without a guardian since Nana's death and several Legends have taken advantage of her absence. Nana also hasn't been completely honest about the Guardians' history. Will Rachel master her new role or will things spiral out of her control?
The Melograno (2026)
When Amaryllis Volans and Rafferty Dodgeson wake from cryogenic slumber, they have no memories and no idea how they got on board the abandoned luxury liner Melograno. Unsettling visions of the crew and passengers plague the pair as they try to retrace their steps and signal for rescue. But the first ship to dock with them isn't there to help- pirates have laid claim to the floundering ship. Amaryllis and Dodgeson must work together to find a way to escape before they're killed or enslaved.
Operation Blackout: Lies and Convictions (Forthcoming)
After explosive Waterfront Incident six months ago resulted in euthanasia for all captured Others in the interest of public safety, Morgan Connor decided to work from within BSI to keep harmless Others safe. But his personal mission becomes complicated when he is partnered with old acquaintance John Reeves. And Reeves has a secret mission of his own: he's been tasked with determining if Connor should also be "euthanized". As the lies keep piling up, Connor is unexpectedly reunited with Orion Starr. Can Connor keep Orion's presence secret or will his lies be exposed?

Cook Co-Producer: Camille Moreau Movie Reviews: Filipe Manuel Neto: **A “gay friendly” film that manages to be minimally neutral to also please those who are out of political and ideological struggles.** The troubled causes have never been so popular as they are today: from abortion to euthanasia, from the historical question between colonizing and colonized countries to the return of looted artworks by European museums, passing through the causes of the Gay Movement, whose acronym grows every year, to embrace any new definition invented for each way of feeling and living sexuality, reflecting a need for affirmation that is felt more strongly than the convenience of presenting a certain union in the ranks. This “gay friendly” film fits perfectly into a growing list of cinema works dedicated to scrutinizing the dynamics of these new families. The advantage of this film is that it is not overly militant. The script introduces us to two mature women, who live in a stable lesbian relationship and who decided to get pregnant, by artificial insemination (obviously the more traditional method was discarded for obvious reasons), the semen donor was the same and the children who were born are, therefore, half-siblings on the part of the father (whom they do not know). It is precisely the search for her biological father and the creation of a closer relationship with him that takes the plot forward, with the introduction of this friendly and uncomplicated man totally destabilizing the life of that house. I liked the movie in general. At the same time that it tries to deny that idea, much replicated, that two lesbians would instill their own sexual orientation in their children, the film seeks to create a question around the inviolability of the anonymity of the donors of seminal material… I cannot speak for everyone, but I would never donate semen if I suspected that, years later, someone might have knocked on my door and said he was my son. Anonymity is something that should be inviolable and sacred here, regardless of the will of those involved. It was the point in the script that bothered me the most, but there were a few more. For me, the strongest poi...

THIS. This is how the Lost Light crew survived literally everything.
Tyrest: You cannot win! I have rewritten every law so that they are without fault and cannot be revoked!
Tailgate: Oh, you mean these? *erases all laws with the click of a button*
-
Brainstorm: *perfects his time machine over millions of years for one purpose and one purpose only: to erase history*
Perceptor: *tries to remove the paradox locks* Oops. I think I just created the multiverse.
…cool. :D
-
Rodimus & Co: *follow Brainstorm back in time to save their timeline* Okay, everyone. Act natural, and whatever you do, do NOT do anything that could change history in a big way.
Tailgate: Y’know what would really make this trip worthwhile? A curly straw. :)
-
Tarn: *implements strategies perfected with time and experience*
Rodimus, Brainstorm, and Velocity: Idk man. maybe if we buff up Ultra Magnus and supercharge ourselves with the power of Trauma(TM), we'll have a fighting chance.
-
Getaway: *strategically manipulates the crew for his own purposes*
Rodimus: I am now fueled by hatred and rage. My thirst for vengeance will be our salvation. (Spoiler alert: It worked. heheheh)
-
The Omega Guardians: *create a flawless utopian euthanasia clinic*
Ratchet: Nice try. I don’t believe in heaven. *destroys the simulation’s power source by throwing a chair into it*
-
The Functionist Council: *tries to destroy the universe with a planet-sized avatar of Primus*
Fort Max to the Luna-1 Crew: Well, boys. I think it’s about time we take the moon for a little joyride.
-
The entirety of MTMTE/LL is the perfect embodiment of the concept mentioned above.
Chaos vs. Order
Strategy vs. Randomness
Basically: “To hell with what makes sense! Let’s just try something stupid and see if it works.”
(And somehow it did—Every. Single. Time.)

It took me THREE times to get this right, and even then, I’m sure I missed some.
In reference to this post, here is a map of where you’ll find certain Fear Avatars in America. This country is TOO DAMN BIG.
