okay, I'm crowdsourcing advice for a minute, so bear with me and please lend some words if you have any:
I want to get out of the house more. Like, on a regular basis. Weekly, maybe. Preferably, I would like to be interacting with people—the same people—every time, for... like... accountability, but also because I am hoping to put myself out there as the 21st century's most neurotic platonic Casanova. Uh. Making a friend or more out of this would be desirable. But I think if I go out with the intention of making a friend, I will be disappointed.
So. I want to go do something, for that something's own sake. I don't want to go be fake once a week hoping to get a friend out of it.
However, the beautiful state of Iowa is a bit cultureless, and I am too introverted and easily overwhelmed for this world (e.g. going to bars is probably not gonna be my thing). So.... I guess.... any suggestions? opinions? thoughts on making friends in general, or finding good activities as an introverted adult, in general?
oh yeah, also: I am poor. that's a factor. so. signing up a class or similar is not a great option right now.
what the heck, I'll add a silly poll for fun:
#Robin processes emotions on main#Robin speaks#I'm mostly talking out loud here. you know how it is#the question itself is too complicated for an easy answer#and everything will change in January when I become unemployed again and start searching for an in-person job anyway#but hey..... (trails off with nothing to say)#to clarify: right now I'm working part time online#and I'm surviving but my mental health is kind of..... tenuous. I'm lonely. I've got no regular in person contact with non-family#also the young-adults group thing sounds uniquely agonizing. I'm restructuring my entire way of faith right now#and so my choices in a young adults group would be.... either fake it or make myself into an embarrassing... like... Thing#impediment to fun and progress or whatever#I don't want to do that. especially if I'm looking to make friends. it'd be like therapy but public and with strangers and frankly#probably very very midwestern-bland-white-evangelical and I don't know if I can take it... I don't know if I can do it#yeagh#OH. ALSO. BY THE WAY. when I say ''a friend or more'' I do NOT mean a friend or romance alsjdflsjdlkdfjsjla#I mean ONE OR MORE friends.

When people continually whitewash my favourite characters.

[ID: A black and white, rough digital drawing of someone sitting at a desk and clutching their head in their hands. End ID.]
^thank you @describe-things
#This is mainly about Noé Archiviste. But also I will not forget what some people did to Simon Petrikov either when I was watching f&c#I’m so desperate for drawings of them. But for the love of God,is it that difficult? Somehow every other hexadecimal of their#Character design is exactly on model other than their skin. Just. .#OH YEAH I FORGOT KAEYA. FFS. Somehow it’s always the K**luc-ers that always do it. Which makes sense because they disregard his entire char#And with the new influx of atla fans people have been whitewashing Katara too! And I mean drawings of the original show too#probably delete later#And no one seems to have any problems with it? Especially if it’s sexualised art *talking more about Kaeya & Noé here.#People who whitewash the few (and when I say few I literally mean 5/82 playable characters) darker genshin characters. Actually fuck off#If I see ‘it’s just my art style’ or ‘it’s just the lighting’ *every other colour than the skin hasn’t been lightened in the slightest*#One more time-i’m going to explode#Oh and while I’m on this topic! Fuck Bochum for whitewashing literally the entire starlight express cast! Electra being the first ever#non binary character in musical theatre while also being played by black actors. And then Bochum happened.#When was the last time Pearl or Rusty had actors who weren’t white? Literally the last character who hasn’t been replaced is Momma/Poppa.#And being black is so integral to their character and music. You quite physically couldn’t#I really really hope the casting for the London performance this year is like the 1984 cast again. Please.

Wyll and Shadowheart can both make the same choice as part of their personal quests (letting their parents die for their own wellbeing) yet despite it being the same, everyone is very sympathetic to shart but everyone treats wyll like he's personally responsible for his father's death (including shart) and generally treat wyll like shit.....I Wonder Why That Is
#the writers hit their diversity quote with one (1) non white character and decided that was enough effort#gale and astarion especially should be punched in the face for how they treat wyll#wyll ravengard#shadowheart#baldur's gate 3#bg3 spoilers

i need ppl to leave the whole aqun-athlok term behind as a gotcha to discredit taashs story bcs they're missing the pointttttt. just like how some nb ppl consider themself trans n use that label, as well as nb, n some dont, taash clearly dont feel like its a label that describes them.
i know the literal translation of aqun-athlok is "one who is born as one gender but lives like another" which yes i guess could be interpreted as any other gender, but from my understanding of the qun n how jobs/roles r very binary n gender associated, for taash that would just mean they would have the social role/gender of a man instead of a woman.
screenshot from the wiki of how aqun-athlok isnt rlly equal to our term of transgender or non-binary, as its also used to refer to women in the antaam since the role of a soldier is male, socially under the qun, the soldier in question would then be recognized n treated as a man. i know not everyone has played origins, but we literally went over this w sten n a female warden n how he doesnt understand that she is both a warrior n a woman, bcs under the qun she would not be considered a woman anymore, but a warrior, n therefore a man (i dont remember the exact phrasing it has been years since i played it last, but i recall it going something like that)
anyway, that is ... not how taash feels. maybe its phrased different depending on ur rook, my rook is nb as well, but this is how the conversation went w my rook.
like i dont see them talking abt how they wanna be seen as a man instead of a woman, i see them saying that they dont feel like theyre either
shathann isnt evil bcs she doesnt understand, she is clearly trying to understand taash through her own lens, n she clearly loves her child n shes trying in the way that she knows of. its just not what taashs means or what they need, n considering their entire relationship w her, they understandably get upset. like theyre not upset just bcs of this one thing, have none of u ever had ur frustration build up until u reached a limit? especially w a parent?
also there isnt a "right" way to be non-binary. i dont relate to most of their journey but it doesnt make it a bad one, just a different one from mine.
anyway this is just my thoughts as a nb person who love taash n can see parts of my own experiences in taashs story as well as parts of my own mom in shathann
#this is written in one go okay i have not done a deep dive into everything im just tired of seeing the same bad faith arguments#i would love to be able to enjoy taash content in peace w/o being bombarded w misgendering n bad takes but here we r#yes there is a problem w their writing when it comes to them being multicultural n they should not have been written only by#a white non-binary catholic person but i can only speak on them being non-binary so thats what i will address#jackie rambles#datv spoilers#also i actually rlly love shathann as a character especially as someone w a mom whos also a teacher n dont always get it right or understan#but always try in her own way n i think they portrayed a beautiful n complex mother child relationship that i could relate to#but thats another post for another day#also dont get me started on both of them being autistic (in my autistic opinion) n how that also makes them clash the way they do

I did a tumblr search for 'british miku' since @thanook has been spamming my dash with brazilian mikus and found the following:
A handful of poorly-drawn but sincere efforts
An absolute torrent of jingoistic anglophobia from people with no self-awareness
Two weird tradposts that reflect zero understanding of actual british history
Exactly one (1) good post
#it's really exhausting how right-wing and left-wing americans both imagine they have strong political reasons to hate the UK#incidentally while white myself I'm very happy to see miku represented as one of the many nonwhite british people#like honestly that feels appropriate because the vibes of racebending to white are pretty iffy#vs racebending to like... anything else#and non-white people are an integral part of the UK especially england just as they are across the americas

Also it's insane that anyone got mad at Jordan Peele for saying he wasn't interested in casting white people. "But what if a white person said this about black people???" Tim Burton pretty much straight up said that and then continued to direct disney remakes and netflix shows so maybe shut the fuck up???
#especially from a horror fan perspective#I hope jordan peele never stops telling non-white stories. even as a white viewer#because there is SO MUCH untapped territory in horror that generations of white directors either haven't noticed or aren't right to direct#peele is one of the few horror directors in the last twenty years who has been pushing the genre in new directions#you don't have to come from a representation standpoint to appreciate that. it's just way more interesting from a purely horror fan view#and burton is a loser for not realizing that POC presence in the genre is more than flat forced diversity

i get that the word "unalived" gets slack for sounding so clunky and goofy but the actual idea of using euphemisms to talk about death is not weird or stupid. people say "passed away" or "moved on" or "lost" and those are completely fine and acceptable as they should be because death can be a difficult subject and if people want to change their language when they talk about it then i don't really understand why they can't
#also hate to break it to you but people started using words like unalived on tiktok#because non white creators especially black creators kept getting flagged and banned for saying certain things#and yes that did happen there are plenty of black people on there who talk about it#and if you followed them you would know that because it was brought up A LOT in 2020 especially#and having a bunch of white people on tiktok go “JUST SPEAK NORMALLY” when they weren't the ones getting punished for speaking#was really fucking annoying actually and so is everyone on tumblr who thinks they're morally superior for not liking tiktok

Tumblr is the moral purity site so I say with extreme hesitance that we gotta be real careful we don't wrap back around into the other end of this like this site likes to do :/
Imma talk more in the tags so it's easy to ignore but as someone who's watched people squirm my whole life as they danced around saying anything that might be perceived to be shitty - and effectively Othering me more completely than if they had just come out with the damn slur, we've gotta be careful about the moral OCD fish hook here.

Without fail
#like...#this is very much giving “white person so afraid to say the word Black that they wrap back around to saying a slur”#South Korea exists in one of the best examples of this sort of thing today#right up there with russia and countless others#do you need the comparison to center a western country before you allow yourself to engage with the reality#that sometimes non white people are the oppressor?#especially in their own countries?#that's kinda weird yall#and its infantilizing#“oh... dont mention south korea when making comparisons to police states run by propaganda”#“its in poor taste :(”#why do you refuse to engage with the fact that asian people can do shit things#im chasing you with a spray bottle and a microphone#tell me why you think its not politically correct to admit that non white people do bad things#yeah#i know#people ARE needlessly gross and they DO have weird obsessions with labeling#“other” cultures as somehow more shitty#im not talking about them rn#we are on tumblr#and i Know we all struggle with nuance and and black and thinking#so I'm just gonna ask all of us to examine this other perspective so we dont lapse into this kind of moral purity tightrope walk#okay?#*sprays us all with aforementioned spray bottle*

Kpop idols in public with native speakers and in songs : the gibberish will do
#kpop#i mean I'm Not saying a foreigner must have the perfect accent or be at native level og ANY language but I'd be#embarrassed af to speak or sing badly or with fake words like i do in my room in front of natives. the french scarred me forever lol#ofc most times they do bc they're constantly excused especially from americans and babied#poor asian rich ass young person they can't speak English bc babie ur just racist! !#then if a non English speaking white straight man says one vowel wrong youd be the first to shoot him#it can be that deep but mostly it's like these people have no shame lol

many of these books require trigger warnings, especially some of the older ones that are more likely to feature racial struggles of the time. please do your due diligence and search for tws if you want to read them!

I dislike this.
If anything, ALL OF THEM should be darker, have these animators never been near the sea?? Refracted light!! Everyone is getting blasted by UV rays! Freckles abound! Tans darken! Pasty ass white people burn and peel like lizards! GIVE THEM THEIR MELANIN BACK.
made a chart of the straw hats' skin tones with the colors being screencapped directly from the episodes, to show how much they've lightened. this is more than just an "artstyle change" or "design evolution" or "just the timeskip" this is blatant racism/colorism. it's fucking ridiculous and i don't understand how toei is continuously getting away with it please reblog btw, i think this is something people should see
#especially the non white coded ones#luffy#zoro#usopp#robin#should all be DARKER#nami#sanji#are the ones slathering themselves in sunscreen#colourism in media

Annoyed at both US and Canadian liberals acting like Canada is an oppressed Global South country that is under the boot of US imperialism and full of progressive revolutionaries when it's actually one of the wealthiest countries in the world and an enthusiastic ally of the US in its imperialism most of the time, and when it isn't, it has its own imperialist and colonialist projects, especially mining, both in the Global South and on stolen Indigenous land within so called Canada - don't even get me started on how reactionary Canadian settlers are either, and it's not just the white ones born here bc a lot of non-white diaspora and immigrants are just as nationalistic and hate both Indigenous peoples and the Global South, even if their families are originally from the latter.

An interesting observation that I have made is that I live in a red state in a predominately conservative area, but the only time I’ve ever noticed a lack of people of color” (I hate that term) was when I went to the far more progressive city. Like I’ve see more diversity on my average trip to the grocery store than I ever did in the entire two weeks there. Lol.
#politics#ig#I didn’t care because why would I#but I think it’s funny that for a supposedly ‘racist’ place there is far more diversity than the progressive area#especially considering the progressive areas are convinced everyone in the south would die if we saw a non white person#(I am not white. no one cares.)#cryptid rambles
