Good news. Did some decent progress on What’s Up Danger so you guys will finally get fed this Wednesday! Bad news, the quality might not be the best since I’m fasting while writing it oTL

Anyways, here are some Batfam w/ Cat Villain! Reader moments/snippets.

You have the biggest age gap with Dick. I headcannon the boys to be close in age so there wouldn’t be any not so good implications when it comes to relationships, but it’s almost unavoidable unless Batman switches sidekicks every year or so. (You are younger than Jason but older than Tim)

But that is also another reason why you two didn’t click as well as you did with Jason

You’d often make jokes or use slang and Dick would just be “???” He tried his best though.

On the reverse side of things, and like I mention before Tim and you got along too well as friends. He’s one of the few people you could gush to about literally any fandom and he somehow (through stalking your searches and literally every gadget/appliance you owned) knew everything about it already.

You two have written several theses on fellow vigilantes and villains (mostly ‘dumb’ ones like who has the best cake based on so and so criteria)

Damian is the best when it comes to bantering with you mid-fight. It’s the combined years of sass and assassin training. Went from plain insults to whole ass (not so) subtly being horny when you beat each other down.

He’s also the worst (best?) when it comes to your nicknames. He insists that you two use it on each other. Some exclusive while others he’s usually fine hearing from other mouths.

There was one point in time where you were called Kitten while the boys forced/bribed you to call them Daddy

Tim and Jason have tattoos of you/related to you.

For Jason it’s your name with a few paw prints, and for Tim it’s when he first fought you (and got his ass whooped)

After Jason came back and revealed himself to you, he tattooed the scratch marks you left him on his back after doing the deed.

Damian secretly practices doing henna so he can draw on you during your “wedding” since he doesn’t want anyone touching you. Sort of defeats the purpose, but go off king.

Being the thorough guy he is, he uses lab equipment to make his own blends.

Bruce? Bruce hates your ass. Sometimes it’s in a hatefuckey way but most of the time he blames you for corrupting his kids.

So he corrupted you in turn.

I feel like he gets off to cucking them honestly (blame that one comic) but if Reader is AFAB I wouldn’t be surprised if he impregnated them.

He’s a softie at heart when it comes to you though, courtesy of your similarities with Selina.

Speaking of, Talia adores you.

Like if there was anyone she would want with her son it was you.

She thinks the fact that you haven’t been put behind bars is a testament to your skill, and after getting over your similarity to her “rival in love” she would actively get you to be with her son.

Eventually she realizes she loves you more than Bruce and well, that’s a story for another fic.

You have at least a dozen trackers on you at all times.

Most of them you’ve ingested and pooped out.

It’s mostly Tim of course. But the duty of actually feeding you that stuff usually goes to Dick.

Dick has uh- somnophillia’ed you a fair bit after the break up.

He really, and I mean really likes to watch you sleep.

It reminds him of those ‘catnaps’ you’d take while watching over the Titans.

There would be times where he’d just be in a daze/in autopilot for hours reminiscing about your past together

He never takes the antidote for Poison Ivy’s sex pollen and always comes to you for it, regardless of his or your relationship status.

Batfam and who I love think they’d be closest to in the Foxes.

Bruce and Wymack. They bond on being a single dad of “I lost track at some point” many kids that were in shitty situations that only one of which is biological. They’d get together every so often and eat pizza and drink (Wymack would at least) and share stories of the insane things their kids have done that week.

Dick Grayson would be Kevin because they both strive to be the best. Or at least the best they can. They both have the most and more extensive experience. (It’s totally not bc they’re both hot and know it and their confidence bounces back and forth between them expanding even more and more and they live for then high that is confidence.)

Jason’s would be Andrew. They both have irreparable trauma and pain caused by a “family” member and have agreed to never talk about it but they were safe places to let anger out in. It’s very much a “I hate you /srs” but it’s mutually beneficial. (He’d also befriend Seth if somehow he’s still alive *cough cough* Lazarus pit *cough cough* they’d be “why can’t you just let me die?” buddies.)

Time Drake would probably be closest to Neil (esp post trk). I don’t know a whole lot about Tim’s character but I heard he harassed Batman into letting him be Robin? It just seems like something Neil would do. They’re enablers for each other before anything else in their friendship.

Damian would try and avoid the entire team but found himself enjoying Rene’s presence. He found her non-forceful openness about her religion comforting and they bonded on having a sense of spirituality and religion. (Idk if it’s canon but I’m assuming the LOA have a form of religion/worship).

The girls would befriend Allison bc Allison is at heart a girls girl and they’re tired of being surrounded by men and boys. Barbs doesn’t even get a break bc all she has otherwise is her dad. They go on girls days and have movies nights and stuff and they’d all three rock shit for either of the other two. (Metal water bottles have been chucked and some noses broken)

Dukes would be Aaron. I don’t much about duke but from the few medias I’ve seen he’s very intelligent and I assume he likes learning new information so they would gravitate towards each other bc Aaron wants to yap and Duke will not only listen to the yapping but yap back to ask questions.

Having something a little different here, not really introducing a new team member per say, but a friend and ally of sorts. Here's Tom Bronson aka Tomcat, son of Ted Grant aka Wildcat! I love cats, look how many are in this pic, everyone's having a fun time (except Grant lol).

Tom debuted in Justice Society of America 2007, which I enjoyed tho it lacked the space for all those characters (a common problem I noticed in a lot of earth 2/jsa stuff), Since he was introduced in the first issue, you would think that he'd be a pretty important character onwards. But alas, he rarely got any focus past the early few issues, even in JSA All-Stars he wasn't given a lot of page time. Then new52 hit and he got erased, not sure if he's been re-introduced back yet.

He and Ted had a pretty good relationship in the book, Tom never blamed Ted for not being in his life and even actively keep up the distance as an adult. Up until Vandal Savage tries to attack them at least. Here in the TrWh au, it can be assumed Tom was discovered at an earlier age (he's 11 to Jason's 10 btw).

Also I said up there that Tom isn't a new team member, but I did wanted to do that originality. That's because in the comics, Tom really didn't like fighting at all when Ted meet him. And that's because Tom has a secret ability to transform into a werecat, something he inherited from his mother. Ironically he keep it secret from her, maybe that'll change in this au.

Ted seemed to help Tom get over his hang-up over fighting somehow, it's not really explained how exactly (like I said, Tom didn't get much focus past tho early issues).I wished that he kinda keep up his reluctant pacifism, it's a unique outlook in a world full of heroes and villains fighting each other.

So at the moment he's a non-combatant ally of the Outlaws, maybe that'll change later who knows.

Since I'm introducing him at at an earlier age, he's still in that anti-fighting mindset, and prefers to stay out of trouble. So he can't really help the team in combat issues, but they can still hang out and have fun in other ways.

Tom's tries to come off as cool and standoffish, but that seems to be a way to hide his skittish and kind-hearted nature. He's been feeling stressed and lonely, esp with how his mother is currently sick and bedridden. Perhaps some friends will do him good!

Here's Tom hanging out with the other Wildcats, his father and Yolanda Montez. Tom is fun to draw, esp in his werecat form. I might be making him more like a cat than a panther, but cats are so fun to draw. I'm basing some this of my mom's own cat, a black cat like Tom.

I really liked Yolanda, she had a real aura of confidence and was really outspoken about what she wanted. I admit I might be a bit biased, since I'm also a Latina as well (¯\_(ツ)_/¯). You can see her trying to 'help' Tom with training to fight, he doesn't seem to enthused with the idea. There's also Ted showing affection with his son, look at the mini cat suit, Tom is so done lol.

More of Tom spending time with Yolanda, they have fun together. Btw Yolanda might already be Wildcat at this point or at least just about to, a bit earlier than in canon but why not?

Jason messes with Tom, he can't help himself. Tom doesn't seem to know how to react with Jason sometimes, esp when Jason jokes around with him. But the jokes never feel too mean-spirited so it's not too much of a bother.

If you ever read Fruits Basket, then you know there's this character with the ability to call forth cats to him. Tom doesn't quite have that power but cats seem to gravitate to him anyways. Looks like Jason called in a favor for his little brother Damian.

Here's a comic that I'd meant to go on a little longer but couldn't think up of what to come next. It's meant to show how Tom meets the team and decides to become friends. Tom seems unsure and almost insecure about why he's being 'recruited' to be friends. Rose seems surprised at Tom's stance but Eddie seems happy to make another friend. But why does Jason want to be friends?

You know there's been some meta about how Jason probably wouldn't have mind not being Robin and just be the civilian son of Bruce Wayne. YMMV on whether you can agree with that or not, I can see reasoning for it tho it should be noted Jason was really ecstatic to be Robin. I'll keep it ambiguous on whether or not Jason would want to hang up the cape, but I keep this reasoning in mind for his interactions with Tom. Tom not wanting to fight at all is a viewpoint Jason has not really come across in his interactions with heroes. As said in the comic, he finds it 'interesting'. Perhaps he was also drawn to Tom's conviction in his ideals as well, maybe Jason finds it kinda admirable in a way.

The team Jason, Rose and Eddie made is in some ways a place to have fun and hang out, to escape from lonely and unhappy lives. It the same reason why other members of the team joined in, to just do things their own way and on their own time. Members come and go at their leisure (the team have multiple places to hang but no official headquarters) so it's a fairly casual and unrestricted type of team. Having a member who doesn't even fight is not really a problem. Though Tom sometimes feels lonely when team members go out on combat missions, and he gets left behind.

There's also the little detail of the team being 'unofficial', I don't think I ever shown that info before. Though I'll probably talk about that for another time.

Recent

I've recently read heroes come back by DairyFarmer on ao3 and it's amazing, spectacular, exquisite, devious, gorgeous ect ect. (warning that a large portion of their other fics have explicit content such as psudo sibling incest and underage (not hero's come back)). Uchiha Sasuke as Tim Drake (it's not a very long fic but the "identity crisis" bookmark has 59 pages of similar stuff...)

This has given me an itch, my own writing ability is sporadic at best but some more ideas:

Itachi as Tim, he doesn't have a brother so he's broody mc broody pants and when he see's Mr. Dark Knight himself he adopts Bruce on sight (so sasuke, so anger, it's adorable). I personally think it'd be funnier to have it be like 10 year old Tim ( or age before Jason dies) adopting 40 year old Bruce Wayne. Itachi will let this be known to. He will shower my boy in love and praise (head pats when he finishes a case and everyone is deeply disturbed, who let this obsessive child off its leash?). THEN when Jason falls he either makes Bruce the most horrible version of himself (ie k!ll ppl and stuff cause thats normal) like indoctrinate the fuck out of this grown ass man (ROOT conditioning anyone?) or he'll just stare at Bruce disappointedly until he folds (like the wet paper towel he is). Blah Blah... Itachi thinks Red Hood is Edo Tensei-ed and the "beat that little Robin replacement to the ground" turns into "why is this eleven year old beating my ass and preaching about free will". And just meeting Damian.

Itachi cannot take this, big brood and baby brood is to much he's going to melt into a puddle of goop. A major plotline could be Itachi just casually mentioning that he'll probably die at like twenty because diseases cross over too ig or BLIND TIM org. It's karma (overusing mangekyo in past life) but everyone's like HOW DO YOU MOVE cause ninja. So it could be Bruce parenting Itachi back because oh no I've grown attached to the little stalker and trying to be super duper nice and accomadating towards Itachi's blindness when it just... doesn't affect him at all?

Steph (probably): So what do your eyes look like behind the mask?

Tim (deadpan): The same

Tim (looking directly into Stephs eyes): I'm blind

That was my most comprehensive one but I raise you:

Timto joining Joker (either pretending the Joker Jr. thing worked OR the electro shocks just made him Tobi). Either way it's either best friends or on sight for those two.

Shim knows that Bruce is Batman ect ect and Alfred finds out Shim knows (or someone related to the batfamily... maybe one of the sirens? Could totally picture Selina bugging him until he fixes that man). And Shikamaru is the laziest man Robin ever that the exasperation Bruce feels stops the greif momentarily (and he has Shim's hero name be "Sloth" as a joke and it just sticks). Shim would like to speak to the manager about how he can't cloud watch because the whole fucking sky is a cloud. Steph is giving nostalgia for another loud blond he used to know (esp the bright colors). Jason is fine with Shim because dude obvi don't wanna be here, Dick treats Shim like he's a cat, Cass and him are besties (they just stare at e/o, don't ask), and Damian will cleanse this manor of your lazy filth myself.

Plot points:

B/c Shikamaru having adhd is one of my personal faves, I want the typical "Tim stop pulling all nighters and drinking coffee" but the coffee actually helps slow down his brain so the batfam take it away and get a revenge driven, irrated Shim.

Ra's gives back Tim because he thought he was slick with the spoiling him so he'll join my side but Shika is just a sugar bby at this point. (he hasn't moved in 3 days yall can have him).

When "Tt." meets "Troublesome."

Fighting villains is a drag so Shim just blackmails criminal's into backing off. Like yes Kenny, I know you're life story and if you just stop being so troublesome we'll sort this out.

Can we have blacksmith Tim? I want him making the most outrageous weapons ever and it's like Kiyoshi warrior's from avatar fans or smt.

He is allergic to cats (don't know if it's canon, kinda just popped into my head). This is comedic and everyone teases him for sneezing near Alfred the Cat considering how much of a cat he is

i think shes got autism and some sort of funky gender going on. bigender maybe. she/him pronouns. bisexual but like, duh.

i think her hair is super curly and she used to straighten it cause it was easier to deal with but she's been trying to take better care of it.

Ways to add angst: have Red Hood see some of his dead men and think Danny is using targeted hallucinations to run away.

Have Ace be one of Danny’s Ghost friends and haunt Batman’s dreams specifically thinking it would help him realize Ellie and Danny are experiments who are managing to have their own life. This is not how that works out and now Bruce is on team Super Soldier Serum.

Damian is Ellie’s rival and is aware Danny was a teen parent. He’s also vaguely aware of Ellie’s hatred for her other parent (Vlad) and assumes Danny’s a transman (in canon his human design has wide hips while ghost has narrow being Damian main evidence) . Dealer’s choice on if that is true or not. What Damian does know is Ellie and her Dad had been experimented on at some point, as Ellie mentioned her other brothers were killed because of her asshole Father (she loved them, and is not forgetting them.) bonus of Damian having seen her take ED before as ‘if i don’t, i could die. My dad found this keeps me from dying, so like, meta diabetes with a side effect of melting instead of comas.”

Damian is fully aware Ellie needs that medicine, and thinks Danny is going to switch it out with this super soldier serum (for other metas) in an attempt to perfect it and profit while taking care of Ellie.

Tim and Oracle find out about Amity Black Out Park and are convinced Danny and Ellie are escaped experiments intent in revenge. Tim thinks Danny is building an army to destroy their previous tormentors, and is all for it. Oracle doesnt trust them not to have intense collateral damage and to not endanger a large number of civilians.

Bonus of Amity Park being in a literal war with GIW and Fentons at the time led by Red Huntress, Tucker and Sam as well as all under 30 residents as active combatants.

Tim goes to check it out and sees an active warzone irl. He does confirm to red hood/Jason the super soldier serum is possible given the active war zone coverup by the gov, but he’s not sure since he’s seen similar injections used on these glowing metas to heal them.

Jason is assuming Danny is bringing that war to gotham or working on making this resistance group more independent.

Bruce is convinced it has to be a super solider serum while Damian, kept put of the loop as no one connected Ellie his classmate to LabCoat, noted her worry as ‘look, the offical meds run out soon and Dad thinks he’s got it covered but… just don’t let then lie if i have a funeral, okay? I’m a menace by choice and will find a way to haunt you if you let them try the whole ‘god has another angel’ stuff.’

So Damian is watching his friend be in a ‘may die soon’ sitch and gets a sample of her meds to Tim. Tim has confirmation the ‘soldier serum’ is also medicine but can’t recreate it. Jason thinks Danny is part of a resistance (Danny doesnt even know its going on) and Bruce thinks Danny is using Ellie as an experiment.

Oracle is the only one doing reg gotham work while Nightwing is only brought up to Damian’s speed as “Grayson how do you comfort a friend who may die as she cannot get the treatment she needs?”

Lots of angst esp if Batman destroys the serum in an attempt to prevent another Ace incident (despite Ace’s warning) while Jason destroyed the notes by accident in a different bust (lab was by a drug dealer and explosions hit danny’s lab. Notes are aflame.)

Damian gets to lose it as they doomed his friend to dying. Ellie is just. Numb. Danny having a break down. Jason feels horrible as he was on the fence before while Batman realizes he basically killed a 12 yr old by destroying her meds because he thought they were a super-soldier serum (they are basically caffine shots for some, IV drip for some ghosts and for liminals its a like getting 100% oxygen for faster healing and more power activation for a few hours).

Damian and Tim work using Danny’s memory and the lab assistant (a ghost of probs scarecrow’s hench) to make a new batch for Ellie in a race against the clock while Danny is trying to spend more time with Ellie as it may be her last few days.

Misunderstandings really really suck

So heres the deal, it's a normal Vivisection AU where Danny had to run away to Gotham after his parents try to kill him, and let's say that he takes Ellie with him too.

They stay there for a few years and after a while they manage to establish a little life for themselves. Danny is running a small Shop that makes them enough money to live comfortably in the apartment right above his Shop, meanwhile Ellie is going to Gotham Metro Academy on a scholarship because she is really smart and they managed to fake some school records for her when they were making themselves new Identities.

(Side Note: Danny is now 26, while Ellie hasn't started aging yet and still looks 12, but she will begin to soon since she just hit her 12th birthday)

Danny also runs a small Ghost Shop out of his store, just selling small bits of Distilled Ectoplasm or Ecto-Infused Treats to the local Ghosts in return for small favors or help around the shop.

But here's the thing. Ellie is still an unstable Clone, even if they did managed to find a reliable treatment in the form of Ecto-Dejecto. But Danny's parents were the only ones who knew how to make that stuff, and the Ecto-Dejecto they stole all those years ago is beginning to run out.

Danny begins to work tirelessly trying to replicate it, diving full on into his Mad Scientist side to try and find a way to make more ED for Ellie. He manages to make some prototypes, but he is nowhere near confident that they are good enough.

He decides to call in some favors from the local Ghosts. He calls the ones he is confident will survive this and asks them to try out his Ecto Dejecto to see if it will work for Ellie, but he does warn them that there will probably be unexpected side effects that they will probably not like.

The Ghosts agree to do it, because in the years that the Fenton's have lived there they have grown extremely attached to Ellie. She is like a little sister or daughter for many of them, they would throw away their afterlives if it meant helping her.

For most of the samples, the ED doesn't work at all. Some of them work for a single moment before cutting out, others don't do anything, and some have crazy effects that affect them for a little while before disappearing abruptly. One guy turned into a Dog, not the worst outcome but not the intended one. Another began to glow brightly and couldn't turn it off, that one lasted for an hour.

They keep testing them, out in the nearby Alley since they don't want to destroy the house or Danny's makeshift Lab, for a few weeks.

They problem comes when they are spotted one night by Red Hood.

Jason was crossing the Rooftops while on Patrol. He was going a little farther than his normal patrol range, since he had the time and he wanted to make sure there was no trouble in the nearby areas either.

As he was about to hop from one rooftop to another, he got a weird feeling. It was strange, he didn't feel anything on his skin, he didn't smell anything, he didn't even hear anything, but he somehow knew that there was something strange happening in the nearby Alley. It was like he could sense it.

Peeking over the edge of the rooftop, he saw a group of about 10 people. It was a bunch of strange looking people with green-ish skin, and one normal looking person. The normal looking one was wearing a lab coat, and seemed to be about 25 yrs old. Jason felt like there was something off about that guy, but he couldn't place exactly what. He was holding a box of something in his hand, and talking to the group.

"Ok guys, I'm really confident this time!" He said, "I think one of these may be the one!"

The man placed the box on a nearby Dumpster and opened it up, taking out a strange glowing green Vial. He handed it to one of the Greenish people and watched as they injected themselves with it.

Jason watched as they began to glow slightly before their arms suddenly grew to be longer than they were tall. The Man in the Lab Coat sighed in discontent, before saying "Ok, not that one. But we still have a few to try out!"

Jason watched as one by one the people below injected themselves with the green Liquid, each of them having some strange phenomenon happen to them before moving on to the next. The strange thing was that none of them seemed to be concerned with the changes, just commenting on it felt before moving on.

Finally, they got to the last person in line. As they injected themselves, Jason felt a sense of Anticipation well up in his gut. He didn't know why, but he felt like this was going to he important.

He was proven right as the Man who had injected himself began to glow brightly. Jason was overwhelmed with the sense of Pure Power coming from him. It was intense, he didn't know how, but he could actually feel the man begin to grow stronger and stronger. The feeling was nearly suffocating, but he managed to regain his senses long enough to hear Lab Coat laugh maniacally. He looked over to see that the entire group was enthusiastically high-fiving and fist-bumping eachother, all cheering at the success.

"Hahaha! Yes! Finally!" Labcoat Cheered, "It's done! Once I make some more, we'll be able to-"

The overwhelming power suddenly cut out. It was so abrupt that even the people below didn't speak for some time. They all just stood on slight shock before Labcoat spoke up, "Ok...ok this is fine. All I need to do is take that formula and find a way to make the effect Permanent. After that we're all set." He said, a thoughtful expression on his face, "I think we'll be good to go within a Week!"

The group of people muttered in agreement, and Labcoat thanked them all for a bit before they all began to walk away. It seemed like the meeting was over.

Jason took a moment to collect himself, before deciding to follow some of the group so he could question them. Unfortunately, everybody he followed disappeared into thin air after a short time.

It occurred to him that he hadn't tried to intervene at all. Usually he would have jumped down and beaten them all black and blue for testing drugs right in front of him, but he didn't this time. Why? He also realized that he should have followed the Lab Coat guy first, not waited until it was his last option. Why did he not go after that guy instantly? Why did he hesitate? Was it something to do with that Ominous Feeling that led him to the meeting in the first place? There was just something about the guy that made Jason feel inexplicably sacred of him.

Either way, he needed to tell the others.

Because from what he had seen, a Mad Scientist had been working with a group of Metahumans to create a Super Soldier Drug right there in Gotham, and they needed to stop them.

more duke things bcs I'm so normal abt Him I promise

duke was in the foster system for years while not being able to mourn his parents, knowing that they were missing while only being able to search for them to the best of his ability, often being moved from home to home bcs of how often he got into fights and being mistreated or abused in some of the homes he was sent to

what I'm saying is, duke probably kept to himself because he was moved around so often that it made keeping relationships hard, in batman and the signal he straight up says that he doubts that his situation will last already putting up a wall between the rest of the family and him

eventually when he does settle in or at least get comfortable with the rest of the bats he stops being rigid and is able to be himself for the first time in a while, this is his first stable living situation since his old apartment and a small part if him is sure he's gnna fuck it up like his previous foster homes

when he first arrived he was awkward and cold, so when he started getting comfortable and everyone was exposed to his blinding smile and cuddly habits

as for relationships w the other bat kids, cass and duke like to tell ppl they are twins for the fun of it, they know nobody believes them but no one's been brave enough to question it either

Jason is dukes lame big brother who wants to look cool so bad but duke is so so dedicated to never letting Jason find out that he finds him incredibly cool and also lame, Jason will do the wildest shit for dukes attention and then ask what duke thinks and he'll go "eh it was aight"

duke and dick don't interact a lot but whenever they do dick is trying to banish all of duke's insecurities like it's his fucking career, they cannot go a single conversation without dick praising duke and duke preening and shit

tim is so awkward w duke at first he has no idea how to interact w him at all. instead of just talking to him like a normal person he'll just leave gifts in duke's room that say shit like 'I heard you wanted this shirt so here you go' only they didn't have a conversation at all and the shirt was in duke's online shopping cart - its so weird but it's growing on duke, he won't say no to free stuff

steph and duke are not allowed to be alone together anymore because last time they were there was a category 4 incident with the riddler and it was just hell for everyone involved esp nygma, bcs they were having the time of their lives

Jason was nerfed as usual just like when he's with batfam (esp in this run, Damian is the MC so). But also, sweet?

To give it context, basically, all the former Robin try to catch Damian, Jason came close but Damian did this move

As much as I hate Jason being nerfed, I also like when Jason was written as emotional in a good way. Jason did have soft spot for kids, from Scarlet in his pre New 52 days, Duella Dent, Bizzaro, those kids from the outlaws academy, Tyler, Clownhunter, and now this.

Yes it's OOC for some and definitely made him look dumb (esp we have scenes where he did beat Damian ass in Teen Titans) but idk, this is sweet (but why DC has to make him dumb so other batfam can shine, hhhhh) .

Lately, I realize that I don't mind if Jason eventually changed his mind about guns, family, and all those stuff, it's just that the way it was executed on Urban Legends finale was REALLY bad.

Back to the main reasons why I buy this issue, some Jayrose crumbs.

Still not a fan of the way Williamson wrote Rose. Besides that disaster in Future State (i love Future State for Jason, not so much for Rose), she's literally written as a supporting character who tries to support the MC just because, first Jason in FS, now Damian. Typical shounen.

This is might be me being too optimistic but I hope in Robin, we can get more insight into her personal motivation. She needs to shine as her own character. She deserves it/

P.S : I love how Jason was drawn here. Tall but not too chunky. Personally, this is my ideal figure for Jason.

man that point about white writers racebending characters to talk abt racism is so true. like, in the first place as a POC i tend to find fanfic that uses characters as mouthpieces about racism to be really tasteless? and w batfam fic specifically, like you mentioned, a lot of the time it's white writers racebending white characters to have them make points that a) end up sounding performative, and b) if you REALLY needed to, there are characters like cass and duke and damian and dick (1/2)

who are there and already POC! and on top of that I know a lot of latines/Black people have expressed discomfort with specifically racebending jason esp. when coupled with his background and family circumstances. a lot of the time making [author's fave character] poc just starts to feel like a gotcha, esp when there are other characters of color who racism would /actually/ affect but whom the author doesn't want to explore lol (2/2)

*nods* Yeah I can't even imagine how frustrating that must be. I don't want to go too indepth here because I try to balance acknowledging and talking about the various issues like this in fandom while staying in my own lane as best I can, and that of course doesn’t mean I always manage to actually pull that off. But yeah.....this is definitely a thing, and the number of times I've seen white authors racebend Jason and Tim and make them front and center in stories that touch on racism and systemic injustices while sidelining not just Dick, but as you said Cass, Duke and Damian too (or often its having Jason and Tim bond with Damian OVER stuff like racism while ignoring the impact of these things on the other three).....its extremely gross, not to mention tone-deaf, given the claimed aims of most fics like this.

And I do think white authors in this fandom in particular, and in regards to Dick, need to do a lot more educating themselves about colorism and the fact that it is 100% an intra-community discussion for people of color that we have no place in, because all I can really say on that is there are a ton of fics BY white authors who nevertheless try and launch into some kind of point on colorism by writing Dick as white-passing and from there making a value judgment that the racism he endures is not that significant compared to his other siblings of color or his racebent siblings.....

But then at the same time, peppering their fics FULL of the g slur, when every usage of that by a non-Roma person, is LITERAL RACISM IN ACTION.

Like whether or not Dick is white-passing in anyone's eyes is utterly irrelevant to the racial and ethnic based discrimination he faces in someone's own fic, if they're habitually writing the g slur being dropped around and about him. They're literally writing him being subjected to racism based on the fact that everyone in Gotham knows who he is and where he comes from regardless of his appearance, and saying people in Gotham or the media and tabloids are using racial slurs in regards to him because of that knowledge.....and then often these authors are trying to at the exact same time minimize this as being not that bad, and saying Dick doesn't face that much actual racism because of his appearance.

What the actual fuck?

Anyway, Roma posters all over social media have asked time and time again that non-Romani NOT use the g slur, I know I reblog these posts at least every couple months, and I see them hardly ever reblogged from me or present on other Batfam blogs, and its fucked up that white bloggers and writers in this fandom are more comfortable implicitly engaging in takes on colorism in their fics than they are signalboosting Romani voices literally begging people to stop using the g slur.

Again, that's as far as I feel comfortable weighing in on that aspect of things in particular, but there needs to be a hell of a lot less anti-romanyism in Batfam fics and a lot more signalboosting of Romani voices and issues if fans have themselves convinced that their own racist takes on a Romani character aren't an issue because is he even really a character of color like racebent Latine Jason or Asian Tim? Etc.

And yes, back to what you said specifically, MANY black and Latine posters I'm familiar with have repeatedly expressed discomfort with racebending Jason as such in particular. There are of course certainly fans of color who racebend Jason and Tim to represent their own personal ethnicities because they're personal faves, which is why again as a white fan I'm certainly not advocating for other white fans to go around making a stink about this on the specific posts and fics of authors whose own ethnicities they don't actually know.....this is aimed purely at asking other white fans who read this to examine just their OWN PERSONAL CHOICES in regards to this kind of thing in fics.

the batkids as things I did in school

Dick:

take dance class and be friends with everyone even though there was some weird infighting going on between everyone. forget to do the assignment to make up a dance ourselves, just improv'd it and got a good grade, somehow. had the most fun slipping down the hallways in socks.

halfway through the year asked to have a free period instead of ASL 3, bc the teacher wasn't teaching us anything or even keeping it interesting so I spent the whole afternoon in Physics class instead.

went all out for 80s day during Spirit Week but turns out no one else did. got a lot of weird looks and concerned questions that day. one kid said I looked like a jumpscare. thanks dude.

missed more than half of my statistics classes but was still getting a better grade than the seniors I sat near. 😭

Barbara:

got really angry when the Pre-AP Bio teacher disnt know whether Carbon was 6 or 8 on the Periodic Table. 14yr old me thought that it was extremely important to know as a science teacher. failed the first 6wks, got moved to a regular bio class, was late everyday but the teacher still loved me. found and identified a tumor in the stomach of the pig we dissected in class. Can still sing the entire DNA song(to the tune of I Want it That Way) word for word over 10yrs later. Still gets stuck in my head sometimes.

kept getting told off in sewing class bc we weren't supposed to hold the pins in our mouth while sewing bc it's dangerous if we accidentally swallow them but that's what I was used to doing at home.

Jason:

stunned the much older kids in my class playing Hangman by looking up and immediately guessing "Labyrinth" from the few letters that everyone else had guessed (one of them looked up what the hardest word was for the game and that was it. it would have been if I wasn't so obsessed with Phantom of the Opera and the David Bowie Labyrinth movie at that point in time)

read all of the short stories in that years English textbook within the first month of school every year

Cass:

smile at people (esp teachers) so wide that id have to close my eyes, and then immediately dropping the smile. (it gave me a break from eye contact and trying to figure out what expression I "should" have in that moment)

Everytime I joyfully played in the rain during lunch and then froze my butt off during afternoon classes in the AC.

also the times I was late for afternoon class bc I was overjoyed at seeing snow.

Tim:

was too overwhelmed to actually do the required amount of weekly reading so I just picked classic books I had already read and picked a random place to put the bookmark and easily answered the teachers questions on what I was "reading"

be a "gifted" student so I was put in the fast track math class but was too anxious to deal with that teacher's incessant yelling at the students so I begged them to put me in a different class. they put me in a regular paced class and told me to just go ahead and do the fast track by myself at my own pace. got distracted and never did the work. switched schools the next year and got put in the next math up and totally regretted it but was in too deep to back out.

dropped out of public school in 11th grade to have a mental breakdown ✌️ eventually finished HS later through online classes and stuff.

Steph:

get hooked on Kpop bc the one friend I had made moved away and now I was stuck with her friends at lunch without much of anything in common so we had to make something.

fell asleep in class bc I was awake all night watching kdramas.

had to do a report on a European country and then got overly attached to the country of Moldova...

Duke:

only got detention twice in all of the years of school. once for being late all the time and once for not turning in my homework on time(the teach didn't want to give me detention but she threatened everyone with it and it was only fair)

Always skipped Pep Rallys and hung out in the Orchestra room instead. also ate lunch in one of the empty practice rooms behind the band hall with friends bc we could :)

got overly excited about black hole radiation and decided to ask my then science teacher about it and was SUPER disappointed when she didn't know anything about it (despite it being a fairly new concept at the time and she only taught middle school non-specific science)

Damian:

got put in theatre class to fill an empty spot on my schedule, enjoyed it IMMENSELY, got assigned "weirdo kid" role by the teacher for the end of year play. really went all out to play up the weirdo role. probably could have just been myself and it would've been enough.

managed to get into a Ceramics class without taking an applicable basic art credit first. the teacher thought it was weird but she didn't kick me out!

all three times I was asked out I turned them down brutally because I didn't really understand social convention. whoops. sorry dudes.

accidentally offended someone when I said that Art 1 was easy :/ (I think they thought I was saying art in general was easy, which. no. I was taking Art 1 as an online class and it was all the basic stuff about art I had learned from my older sis over the years)

ALRIGHT, First to Recap:

Duke became Lark at abt 8/9ish, two years later Damian (13) steps on the scene, let’s Bruce know he’s his dad and makes a name for himself as Redbird. Harper in the time between has been patrolling as her friendly neighborhood Bluebird & is not a vigilante on the same level as the others (yet). Fast forward abt 2 years, Cass joins the fam, she Dami n Duke have the run of the manor until Dami leaves to find Talia (and dies) and here Cass finally steps up to take up the First Batgirl mantle.

SO, it’s just them for a good chunk of time (3 years In Fact!) and here we’ll start to turn around to some origins that are closer to canon!

So the usual stuff you expect goes down, Cluemaster is Causing Trouble and Not Leaving Clues to his crimes, so Spoilers On The Case! :D

Since Duke (15) has JUST moved over to the Day Shift & became the Signal, Bruce and Cass (11) have their hands full trying to keep up with the patrol and with this new vigilante that’s trying to help out (but sometimes causes them a little more trouble ofc, the lovable scamp). So after the initial first few run-ins, Steph’s (13) absolutely like ‘so when are ya gonna give me a bird name, boss man :) when am I getting a bird outfit’ and Bruce is just ‘no’ and Steph is like ‘mmm noted’ and shows up as Rook one night.

To fastforward tho to when Steph inevitably gets revived, I know with Dami dying before her it probably feels like Dami should be the Jason parallel, and with the Mom thing, he absolutely is! But I think as far as Resurrections go, Steph fits that bill a little more. Like... their backgrounds+Motivations feel just... a little more intertwined to me (esp with the whole Black Mask thing idk!! i think more on that later when I start working out the storylines I want to adapt or parallels that can be made that help move things along)

babysitting : ok ok my actual weakness? gotham/batfam : ok them going to Gotham for a case is interesting but whats more interesting??? going to Gotham because Bruce invited him! like Bats invited him to the cave so…he visits, like while he works w the League it makes sense for him to work on the League’s official vehicles, but he gets asks to look at the batmobile? like ok let me explain Bats is a dad & Simon’s roughly his eldest’s age so he low-key reminds him of Dick (esp personality wise) & he feels unappreciated? Bats isn’t good w words but he is good w gestures so yeah he asks Simon to fix his car after is crashes the billionth time & yeah he lets Simon upgrade it lord knows it needed them & sure maybe he had Alfred bully Simon into staying for dinner to make sure he ate & sure maybe he made sure Damian was here because Simon loves children & having him teach Damian about cars while he worked on it cheered him up but he doesn’t care or anything (he’s /this/ close to writing up adoption orders).

Simon w the rest of the fam starting w Alfred: he loves him there’s just a shared respect of someone who does everything for family, like everytime they see eachother the look the exchange…it tells a thousand stories, also they exchange reciepes & cooking tips (& parenting tips) all the time & when Simon goes over he’ll bring something he made from one of Alf’s recipes & Alf will make one of Simon’s & they’ll see how it turned out….what I’m saying is that they’re bros’s they’re /this/ close to starting a book club together

Dick: like Alfred they bonded near instantly from the mutual reconition of doing everything for their family but also Dick hit on him once & if Simon wasn’t crazy about Jessica right then he would’ve taken him up on it, Simon mostly visits either to just chat, for some advice w Jessica or tbh to hang w his bf Tiger,  when he visits he always brings food so Dick really doesn’t mind tbh, long story short is they bros but like more low-key than him & Alf & Bruce

Jason: Simon doesn’t really have a no killing rule or anything but he doesn’t like it at all y’know but he also doesn’t disagree w Jason’s methods so he doesn’t but heads w him but Jason did come to see him w he found out he was hanging w Alf, now Jason joined in on his & Alf’s recipe trades & sometimes they’ll talk about books or something. Really they’re not close but Jason really appreciates having another person to talk to (& he really is that ride or die friend) & who doesn’t judge him at all tbh & Simon’s really just the same way, like they only talk once or twice a month but they do mean alot to each other. also Jason bullies Simon into befriending Roy,Artemis & Bizzaro & while the latter two took some time to like him & Roy hit it off immediately to Jason’s instant regret

Tim: Tim’s smart but honestly him & Simon just clash y’know & (tim stans don’t interact) like y’know if he wanted to talk to a genius he’d talk to Cyborg,Cisco,Dick, or Bruce (who are smarter)? before him like Tim’s just young enough & just old enough that Simon doesn’t really deal w his age group? I do think Simon’s nice to him but theres just no friendship between them they just coexist tbh

Duke: Duke’s a new young hero who’s actually up in the daytime!?? so yeah him & Simon run into eachother alot & Simon’s been in the business just long enough not to be a rookie so he helps alot & Simon was shocked at how smart Duke was tbh & really likes talking stuff w him if only to see how long it’ll take for him to figure it out? & its always so quick? Simon can’t wait to see how big he’ll be in a few years so while Simon’s only like 6-8 years older then him he’s sorta tryin to be a mentor to him

Damian: Bruce is Jewish & so is literally the rest of the fam so Simon’s literally one of the only practicing Muslims that see Damian often so he invites Damian to his family for their holidays & celebrations & that may be the only times they interact but it means so much to Damian & the family when he does it

Cass: Cass is the best judge of character in the entire DC universe & she saw Simon & decided he was good & just?? befriended him like they don’t bond over anything in particular but Simon always treats her like a princess (in a nice way) & Cass & Jess are friends so Simon’s cool w her & they’re both pretty much the friends yelling (& signing in Cass’s case) your doing amazing sweetie when they see eachother

Steph: She’s closer to Jessica but honestly Stephanie’s the Gina Linetti of the dc universe she’s that bitch she’s a known icon, when you need someone destroyed via social media you go to her & given the amount of shit on the green lantern official twitter (they’ve had one for public realations since Hal’s Earth GL days) against Simon & Jessica for terrible reasons…lets just say…Steph’s the friend to have tbh (Vic, & Babs just threaten to shut down twitter when it happens Steph detroys them)

Luke: Simon heard Luke’s story & he knew how smart he was but he wasn’t ready for when they met, they talked for hours & once Simon invited him to come to a bar w him & Vic they immediately become that group of science bros, but also he & Vic are like the only people Simon knows that “sport” & while Simon really doesn’t its nice to feel like a “normal” dude sometimes so he always watches the game w him

Tiffany : Tiffany’s such a genius & Simon’s a engineer & Tiffany thought that was so cool “Luke you’ve gotta invite him over c’mooooon” so yeah Simon came over to meet this Tiffany & they literally spent the better part of an entire day talking shop it was honestly one of the best days of Simon’s life, now Simon takes her to science exhibits w Luke & lectures & Tiffany tells him about what she learned each day & Simon always asks the right questions & yeah they’re just nerdy bffs

Helena (Rebirth): she scared him at first but Simon understands trying to be a hero after doing things you’re not proud of & situations you can’t always control & they may not be friends but Simon does believe she’s good & that means everything to her

Babs (Oracle): you can’t be a hero & not know who Oracle is, she keeps everything running together?? they don’t talk much honestly Simon barely knows her name but aside from his Mom,Sister, & Jessica there’s no one he respects more

Claire : Simon thought it was funny at first, like this little girl really got up & decided to be a hero & then did it??? & continues to do it everynight???? but then he found out what it does to her & Simon & her have & will probaly never meet but Simon always asks about her to make sure she’s doing ok, Simon is planning on going to the guardians to see why she can’t get a ring because he can’t think of much things braver than dying a little bit each time you’re a hero

Harper  : she really did that? like for her brother god does Simon respect that & Simon  doing all of that for someone who may as well be his brother? god does Harper respect that. they bond over mechanical stuff & help each other on projects & once they started hanging out God does Harper’s suit & gadgets improve like holy shit  

Kate : Simon was honestly uncomfortable with her when he found out she was ex military & honestly is still a little but he does recognize her importance & when he sees her prowling the night god  does he leave her alone 

Jessica w the Batfam stating w Bruce : I like to think there’s a few hero support groups for various things & she didn’t wanna go to the anxiety one alone so Bats (who already went but she didn’t need to know that) offered to go with her & she knew he took Simon to the depression one so she said yes, & now they go together every week & honestly it means alot to her & they kinda bonded over that (and how much they both love Simon (Bruce in a paternal way) 

Alfred : Jessica adores Alfred he’s like the second easiest person to talk to & he’s so calming & he makes tea & he never talks down to her & he gives good advice so whenever Simon visits Jessica tries to come to if just to sit with the man he’s her new favorite Grampa 

Dick : Dick’s younger than the league but super experienced in the hero business & tbh theres not many who are more experienced so when she needs help w a gig but is not about to call the league the contacts him (over text obv), they don’t hang much, because despite popular taste Dick’s a lil too serious for her taste, she does appreciate the effort he makes to make her feel like they’re peers when he’s clearly issuing commands, she def sees thru his jokes & facade & while she never mentions it there’s a understanding between them  

Jason : Jess doesn’t like killing point blank (ayy) but she understands the J*ker needs to uhhh die so she refuse to hang w him on moral grounds but also she’s low-key rooting for him tbh 

Tim : I think they just met over completely normal conversations?? like they both just awkwardly talked & everytime they meet they just meet & awkwardly talk? Jessica’s glad he’s back (it was not fun seeing Bats mourn) & Tim thinks she’s a fucking powerhouse but yeah their relationship is literally the  friends of a mutual friend that constantly meet & talk but also aren’t really friends 

Duke : Jess thinks Duke is so cool, he’s one of Gotham’s only superpowered heroes & he’s pretty much its only line of defense during the day. what she didn’t expect was how much of a nerd he was, when they finally met they spent no less than 8 hours throughout the day talking about Lord of the Rings

Damian : Damian doesn’t partically care about Jess one way or the other but when they did meet he wanted to know why she changed her costume as the old one was clearly had a better design, Jess didn’t have the heart to explain all that happened but they did start talking about art & stuff, now their relationship is mostly Jess commissioning him to draw her oc’s tbh 

Cass : Cass is also part of the girls club & honestly Jess & her bond so much talking about how their disability’s effect their day to day lives, they each have their own support system but there’s no reason they can’t support eachother. aren’t close friends but are still one of eachothers greatest cheerleaders 

Steph : Steph is part of the girls club & they both love pokemon honestly they kept on running into eachother when pokemon go came out & they still play it together, alot of the girl heroes get together all the time for a ladies night & while Jess isn’t ready yet Steph is putting an honest (& impressive) effort in convincing her (she’s close tho) 

Luke : they’re so mutually impressed by eachothers determination, like they’re not close at all but god do they respect eachother 

Tiffany : they respect eachothers aesthetics & thats the strongest way for women to become friends tbh, always have makeup on hand for eachother. their friendship is the true definition of girl solidarity tbh. Tiffany’s so busy coming off as intelligent that sometimes she forgets to be a lil girl & its so easy w Jessica, Luke swears she looks like she’s going to disneyland or something everytime Jessica comes over 

Helena (Rebirth): again she doesn’t like killers but she’s part of the girls club & while there may be no love between them Jess does believe in second chances & she really is rooting for her 

Babs : Jessica is so shook by her, Babs is shook by her they recognize powerhouses when they see it & Jessica seeing a disabled woman being easily the power house of the batfam??? she’s honestly never felt so inspired, Jess hands down hero worships her & tbh Babs is shocked because a effing Green Lantern thinks she’s powerful & that mutual validation??? awe inspiring 

Claire : they also met at the hero support group & Jessica’s with Simon, like she came back to life (sorta) because of a Green Lantern ring why can’t Claire have one?? they hang out together & honestly Claire’s one of the few people Jessica’s comfortable going “out & about” with 

Harper : part of the girl squad & while they don’t have much in common they really do like each other in wow that one girl that saved me last night seems really cool tbh, definite respect there

Kate : she’s so gay for her but everytime Kate flirts w her she forgets how to fuction therefore their relationship is in a constant impasse tbh, the constant paradox of wanting to be her gf but also can’t talk to her & Kate just wants to learn her name
