Open: Close to Slumber

The end of autumn seeped through thin fabric, billowing with a sigh as it traced the still legs underneath, the knees drawn to the chest laden with weariness. Caitlin stirred to bury her face further into her mareep wool-filled pillow hunting for the entrance to a slumber painted to a stifling black. It shouldn't have been so difficult to begin with, for the cold felt like home, the pillow came from her pokemon, and the statue she lay under stood with the purpose of welcoming those who sought asylum. Yet tucked in another song lacing the pillars with their frigid fingers, Caitlin woke to them.

"The Pokemon League is closed today," she said, curling up against the League’s center statue. The sweet lie lingered on her lips, though it wasn't entirely so. The rest of the Elite Four were indeed busy.

As busy as her, anyway.

Headcanons for Caitlin, 3

Distancing oneself from others is a sure way to avoid unintentionally delving into another’s past and emotions. For Caitlin, distancing oneself from others is also a path to loneliness. Nevertheless, she prefers being lonely and safe than loved and harmful to others.

That’s how it is. Her psychic abilities is positively correlated with her emotions; so even if she’s happy, she’s capable of causing harm to anything around her, meaning her love for someone can be as dangerous as her hatred. The distance her abilities can reach is unknown, considering her refusal to go all out.

The humans she’s closest to can be counted on two hands: her two parents, her younger sibling, Cynthia, the rest of the Unova Elite Four, Alder, Iris, and Darach. Although she considers them her closest loved ones, she excuses herself when she feels strong emotions and sleeps it through.

She’s closest to her sixteen pokemon, though. Not only do she spend most of her time with them, she also relies on them to gauge her mental stability and steer her away from anything that may shake off her staged indifference.

When it comes to others, humans and pokemon alike, Caitlin keeps a stoic demeanor, creating a public persona of the “cool beauty.” Little do they know, she has a great sense of humor, though a bit odd--let’s just say puns and morbid humor can make her laugh.

Headcanons for Caitlin, 2

You’d think Caitlin would be living somewhere warm with the light clothes she wears. But. No. It’d probably take a snowstorm for Caitlin to put on a jacket. Her pokemon worry constantly about her health.

She loves sweets, though it might be more for the fact Caitlin loves anything with a kick in it. Bland and bitter food are a no go for her. Nevertheless, she’s not picky--she’ll eat what is in front of her, even if it’s not to her taste.

While she may look prim and proper, she’s nowhere near neat. If her pokemon, especially Little Prince (her gallade), weren’t so clean, her villas, home, and Elite Four battle arena would be a mess. Not just I-can’t-see-the-floor-because-of-the-clothes kind of mess. Trash, things, food, clothes, pokeballs, books, items from impulse buying... you name it, she got it... somewhere in that mountain of... things. Gotta feel sorry for Darach now.

How about Caitlin and Red??? :O

If they had a kid meme (any ship; accepting)

Name: Adan (red earth). Except no one really calls them that–they usually go by “Andoy” because Caitlin’s side of the family are Filipino and every Filipino family has to have someone with a weird nickname (to non-Filipinos, anyway). Caitlin likes to call him “Ani,” though. They also go by An-An. And Dan-Dan. And Aneh. There’s Kulot (”curly hair” in Tagalog). Then Kulit (”stubborn/persistent/annoying” in Tagalog). The list goes on…

Gender: Nonbinary (any pronoun), though he’s not very vocal about. Well. More like she doesn’t care.

General Appearance: Andoy has no sense of fashion whatsoever, wearing anything that smells clean… though even that gets disregarded… yeah, okay, she would wear anything within reach; she really can’t be bothered with how she looks since there are better ways to spend her time. He is conveniently attractive in a “regal” way, so he can pretty much pull off whatever outlandish attire he manages to put on before giving up because it’s too much work he wears, and that’s just not fair to the rest of us, right? Putting up a public face is also out of the question–useless hassle–so they’re an open book. Their posture is impeccable, oddly enough (it must be to look taller than 5′6″), and if there’s one thing that can be called “neat” about them, it’s how they always tie their wavy black hair, which reaches half their back. The reason? Long: too bothersome to cut. Tied: to keep it out of the way.

Personality: Attractiveness aside, upon looking more closely one can see callouses in those long fingers; observant auburn eyes behind the thick eyelashes; and practiced muscles under the flawless skin. He’s not one to be passive in life. “Indifferent” (hahahaha get it? because red’s url is indiffred? hahah–okay, i’ll stop) and “messy” (and it’s not just the ketchup stain on his shirt–dear arceus, just look at their room) might be the first words to describe Andoy, but she’s passionate. She jumps from one hobby to another, the dream to be the very best teacher one day, the burning determination to be a waste collector the next, so it’s kind of redundant to say they have a lot of different skill sets that don’t seem to have much of a pattern. However, if there’s one thing they avoid, it’s pokemon. With Red and Caitlin as their parents, two former Pokemon League Champions (i headcanon caitlin to be a champion later in her life :’) ), Andoy grew up rather conscious of his skills, soon becoming over-critical toward themself, and with the stress building up until she couldn’t bear it anymore, Andoy shied away from pokemon altogether; seeing herself as weak compared to her parents, Andoy feels she doesn’t deserve to have close bonds with pokemon. Or people, for that matter. Insecurity works like that. Another way Andoy’s insecurities manifest is in how they interact with others, as while they don’t hide anything, they speak in short, blunt sentences, making them seem more like a jerk than anything else. …as expected from the child of Red and Caitlin. 

Special Talents: Sleeping anywhere, anytime, and on anything. It really wouldn’t be so odd at all to see Andoy falling asleep while eating. On a more serious note, as if fate is showing him a very, very obvious sign, they can understand pokemon in a similar way as N Harmonia. It comes with him being naturally perceptive, and honestly, they grew up with parents who love their pokemon dearly–what else did he expect? And, no, he didn’t inherit any of Caitlin’s psychic abilities.

Who they like better: Andoy was closest to Red (Caitlin’s psychic empathy, giving her the opportunity to know him more than him himself, kind of scares him). Until they distanced themself, that is. By the time they were in their early teens, they realized how the world saw them: the child of former Champions. Expectations rained on them, and the world watched every move they made. In retaliation, Andoy made an effort to put a distance between her and pokemon. Insecurity gave way to self-hatred. By the time she was in her mid-twenties, Andoy hasn’t contacted her parents for years.

Who they take after more: A mix of both for appearance and personality, especially with their stubborn fervor–it’s like combining Red and Caitlin’s and then adding more just for the hell of it. That self-hatred, though. Andoy definitely embodies Caitlin in her younger years.

Personal Headcanon: During his twenties, he caved in. He couldn’t help it. Who cares about what people think anymore? Shaking with excitement and fright, they took up pokemon training, reuniting with the Pikachu they befriended long, long ago, when he was still that child who looked at his parents with awe, wonder, and love. Again maybe fate had a play in it, but the Pikachu remembered Andoy, sighing with a smile, because, wow, my friend really took her time coming home, and the two went on an adventure. It was slow, it was hard, and there were many times when they took five steps back instead of forward, but it was worth it. Andoy grew and loved. By the time they were in their late thirties, Andoy returned to the public as the new Pokemon League Champion in a far-off region, and it’s pretty obvious he’s rebuilding his relationship with his parents due to his many phone calls home, compensating for the time lost. Most importantly, Andoy is happy.
