VERY late entry for Ulysses Week's prompt "the divide". Lyrics are from Autopsy Garland by the Mountain Goats. I have a project for fnv planned involving the whole song, but I couldn't get this concept for an alternate Ulysses thing for these lyrics out of my head. I love Ulysses and the divide very much. >24 hours of drawing on this one.

general info dump/link list for people just learning about rui!

rui has studied/competed in traditional dance for his whole life since childhood. his sister is also a dancer & influencer on insta (iamriva123) and they used to post kpop dance videos together.

rui was also on boys planet, but was eliminated during the 3rd round of eliminations at 23rd place. i wanted to compile some of the more fun videos from his time on boys planet to help everyone get to know him~~

boys planet audition: iconic traditional dance~

star level test: see rui STUN 90+ trainees and the mentors with his traditional dance skills

behind of the star level test: rui and other trainees go up on stage to dance to the girl's planet 999 song

hidden box video: (these were part of promo before boys planet aired) basically rui and his bestie zhang hao reaching into a mystery box and being incredibly endearing (vol warning for headphone users)

dance battle: see rui spin like a top and do cartwheels around the entire stage, also featuring the iconc line "YOU'RE A BIRD!" from haruto

kill this love practice: rui memorizing a choreo by just laying around and stretching while watching the video

more kill this love practice: rui and zhang hao comfort fellow trainee min who's having a rough time

behind the scenes in boys planet dorm: see rui with 3/9 of zb1, and also the other global trainees (including wumuti!) teasing him for stretching all the time

dorm vlog: rui shows off his flexibility once again, answering the burning question of how he stretches in the shower

butterfly practice: somewhat painful to watch, but rui is a very comforting presence to junseo who's going through it this episode, and the whole group has great dynamics

lip reading game with over me team: some rly cute rui moments as he starts the game and gets exasperated with the word they got

more game day fun: no subs unfortunately, but basically over me team has to try to put pants on without using their hands. zhang hao and rui get very creative.....with their mouths

over me 1.5x speed: just super fun, and rui has to literally drag zhang hao up off the ground toward the end

over me win: iconic for how much of an underdog group they were, and rui is extremely emotional

over me on mcountdown behind: just a lovely video, they're all excited to be on a Real music show... if the vibes seem kinda off it's bc rui was technically already eliminated at this point, but it hadn't aired yet and fans didn't know :((

reaction to zhang hao getting 1st on boys planet: couldn't find a good fancam of this, but rui literally collapses into sobs when it's announced that hao placed 1st, and it's only when he sees rui on the big screen that it really sinks in for hao that he won T T
