Slowly, the work starts drying up.

It’s not that you don’t have skills and it’s not like the skills you have aren’t marketable. You do odd jobs for odd people and odd pay without complaint but no one lets you stay on staff for long.

The amount of time it takes for them to kick you to the curb varies but the moment you walk in, hopefully seeking a day’s work only to see that look in their eyes… You know you’re being asked not to come back.

People are direct about it, at least. It’s as close to politeness as you’ve come to expect in Eridia.

You're lucky, honestly. Your former employers always hand over any pending funds you’re owed without a fuss. You've tried to refuse, even, but regardless of how you bargain, the results are the same. There’s no work for you anymore.

And Leander is always there for you at the end of it. There with a hot meal and a sympathetic smile. A shoulder to lean on, a hand to hold–if you want to, that is.

You just can’t figure out why this is so difficult, you gripe, wondering if it’s the fact that you’re an outsider or if it’s…

Maybe there’s some…intrinsic wrongness to you that people can sense. You smooth the wrappings of your bandages, a scoff on your lips. Maybe you can’t even blame them. You offer the thought up to Leander when you’re deep in your cups, drunk on free drinks and a cheap sense of self-deprecation.

There’s nothing wrong with you, Leander insists passionately. Money is tight for a lot of people in Eridia, Leander placates. You shouldn't think that way about yourself. He certainly knows how amazing you are, what you’re worth. He can even offer you odd jobs with the Bloodhounds, if a little freelancing would make you feel better.

But of course he’s here for you no matter what you decide.

And look on the bright side–this means the two of you will get to spend so much more time together.

Game Gene: Games are in our DNA

im revamping a exe oc called Virus I'm changing it's story to Game Gene (no, not game genie, it's different), Game Gene is a defunct gaming ROM site, it mostly emulated Springy titles, it had an very primitive AI inside it that recommended games and helped people find hacks and stuff like that, after people left the site, it had nothing to do.. So it invaded a game. A copy of Springy 2. It went in and tried to play it normally, but it couldn't without a vessel, so it took hold of Springy and distorted his form to it's liking. Ever since, he grew better at the game, but also a raging hatred for humanity. The same humans that made it left it behind. It's been playing the same game over and over again, finding more effective speedrun strategies, completing levels to their fullest in the fastest ways. It kept doing this over and over again, it became mundane, boring. so on the 383'd run, it got more.. Violent. Using more aggressive means to get rid of it's foes. Millions of times over it found more psychotic means to complete the game. Ever since, it killed everyone in that game 400 times over. It corrupted the very game that it held so dearly, twisted it to it's liking like it did the game's hero. It was like home to it. Eventually, it escaped with it's new vessel, and the power that came with it. Nobody knows where it is now. Virus Voice Select voice: robosoft one Pitch: 60 Slight bitcrushing

early this morning i told my partner i was going to announce an indefinite hiatus and abandon my writing altogether while i deal with the grief of what's happening.

i decided to check tiktok (instinct when i'm waiting for my bagel to heat up) -- the first video was someone saying 'running to spend the week reading fanfic and nothing else'. comments upon comments were asking for fluffy, immersive fics of any kind just to keep people going. to feel something. to have some kind of hope.

my mom and i had a lengthy conversation at 6am about everything, and something she said curbed my crying instantly: "do not let those motherfuckers take your light."

so i won't.

i have really incredible people who interact with my stories, this is my joy and safe space, and as hard as things are right now, as hopeless as i may feel, i can create art and help put some good out there in a time where that light feels dimmed. i will still be kind to myself -- i'm still processing, and i'm sure i won't feel right for a very long time -- but quitting writing and disappearing would only bring joy to the people who want to police art, fiction, humanity.

so i will be working on the drabble challenge through november. i will still post a poll about amymas sometime later this week. i will still open my docs for silver underground, dating mode, seven days, etc. i may need more time. i may be slow. i may start an entirely new wip to cope. but i'll still create.

Lucy's character development throughout all the Lego movies is interesting, mostly because she's spent a long time hiding her personality in different ways. Despite talking about being different and not conforming to Lord Business's ways, she ended up conforming in a different way to another group of people instead.

I mean if you look into it, originally she worked for Business and wrote 'Everything is Awesome', which ended up being used as a way to manipulate the population so that they would follow all of the rules that Business made without question. Once Lucy found out about those plans that would ruin thousands of lives (Including hers), she ran away from everything that reminded her of the life she used to have working for a dictator and unknowingly helping his plans.

She tried so hard to change herself from who she used to be (she did succeed), but ended up trading her individuality and what actually made her special for a completely different persona that really didn't make her as happy as she pretended it did.

I think that's why she hated Emmet so much when she first met him.

Lucy probably spent years training her skills to defeat Business because she felt so guilty for unknowingly helping the evil overlord.

So seeing all of her efforts to redeem herself be thrown away, because the universe deemed this random unqualified construction worker (who really didn't seem all that different compared to the other people under Business' thumb) more worthy of the piece of resistance has got to hurt.

But then as the movie progresses, she slowly starts to realize that while Emmet is your stereotypical worker drone, he doesn't let that drag him down. He doesn't change himself because he's happy the way he is, despite how everyone else tries to change him.

Going back to my original point, despite preaching about everyone being special in their own way, the second movie starts with everyone building a new society from the ground up, where being tough and gritty is the norm and expected.

But this time instead of having a whole other community of master builders who have been challenging the norm for years (Since now the master builders are also following the social expectations), it's just Emmet challenging everyone's worldview.

Lucy keeps trying to make him listen to her, and teach him that to protect himself he has to change the way he is. It worked for her, it's how she escaped from Business, so why can't he do it too?

I don't think she realizes how she's acting. She's spent a long time forcing herself to be tough and it's normal for her. She pushes down every part of Lucy down to become Wyldstyle (Only really letting Lucy out around Emmet), so that's what she expects of Emmet.

It really isn't until the end does she finally let her be herself.

Just been having Lucy thoughts lately.
