"With a light heart, warmed by the summer sun overhead, I wended my way to the outskirts of Bree via the Brandywine, in search of the warbler that bears the name of that great rambling river. Thus far, the Brandy-warbler had lived up to its reputation as the rarest bird in Bree-Land, but I am not so easily deterred. My searches along the river took me hither and yon, about and around and athwart, over hill and dale, through barrow and heath and moor (note to self, must still learn to distinguish the precise difference between a heath and a moor), and every other geographic word package one could possibly conceptualize. But no matter where I searched, I saw nowt of the little lemon-colored bird.

"The sun had just started to set on my ornithological venture when I departed Hengstacer's Farm, located quite far to the east of the Brandywine, on the other side of the Wildwood. You see, I had to see a man about a horse—quite literally, for I had been (most inexplicably) bequeathed a fine bay horse once owned by an old friend of mine called Lindir, whom we have (most inexplicably) dubbed "Figwit". I assumed he was settling his affairs before Going West, so to speak, but Figwit denied this, claiming that he was rather attempting to woo a lady who has a terrific fear of all things equine.

"I decided not to look this gift horse in the mouth, so to speak, and I really decided to avoid pressing the button with Figwit any further, lest I become trapped like a creamy nougat center within another one of his ridiculous B-plots. In any case, this is all merely tangential: As I left Hengstacer's Farm, I espied a patch of overgrown wildflowers, scrub and canes. Not quite a thicket, but perhaps an ideal habitat for the elusive Brandy-warbler. Sure enough, just as the setting sun set the skies aflame, I spotted her! A female, noted for her duller, more olive-colored plumage and her lack of the chestnut mask and white eye-lines that characterize the male in his summer finery.

"On my next visit to Imladris, I remarked to Glorfindel that I found it a bit strange that a bird called the Brandy-warbler could be found so far from the Brandywine river. He accused me of applying real-world logic to a video game—another button I declined to press, for the sake of my own sanity..."

i didnt even know i had gotten this i am so sorry 😭😭😭😭😭 and this is such a beautiful wonderful question…

idk honestly i just see most of my favorite characters as black but when i start thinking deeply about why i hc both of them as such it kinda makes me emotional but it might sound weird forgive me for the incoming word vomit

langa being black without anything about his character being changed is just so genius when you think about it. growing up and being friends with different black boys, you can notice a common denominator is that theyre emotionally suppressed in some way lol. so seeing langa in this way where his emotions get to be thoroughly explored, ADDITIONALLY about the feelings for another guy possibly just kinda touches my heart idkkkk :,) langa is monotone but still so expressive, funny, adored, cool, sensitive, soft, caring, selfish, and trying to figure out himself and the bonds he has between his passion/his friends. i feel like there isnt a black character quite like him, so i just made him black LOL. long story short applying an intersection between my life, his blackness and queerness just makes me so happy.

i feel like its hard for a black character to exist in shows and NOT follow the same archetype or personality type. its like this overlaying blanket stopping most of them from being a /person/ outside of being black (in the generational trauma kinda way). but then also if theyre queer they arent allowed to be queer in a black way ? 🤦🏽‍♀️??? or if they look cool theyre usually a side-sideSIDEEEE character. i dont know guys… maybe im crazy. but its so refreshing to see my faves fit my vision while just still being themself. black characters can be anything and anyone and also still be black. it brings this type of representation to the people i love most in this world

Theres a plethora of other reasons too like i just tend to hc alot of blue characters darkskin (LOL), hes a skater (and gay)and its just cooler if hes black idk 🤷🏽‍♀️….what kickstarted all of this was seeing like 2 black edits/drawings on pinterest and i havent seen anyone else that i dont already know do more since ToT
