4, 22 and 23 for the book ask. Merry Christmas :)
Merry Christmas! :)
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
Hmm, I wouldn't go that far but I will be reading The Three Musketeers soon because of Monte Cristo. I started reading two very easy historical mystery series by Ashley Weaver and Erica Ruth Neubauer and believe me, these are not challenging or great literature but both hit a certain spot for early 20th century female detectives with implausible love-interests. Like Miss Fisher knock-offs.
22. What’s the longest book you read?
Easily The Count of Monte Cristo. Thank goodness for audiobooks because there's no way I'd have read it "normally".
(Side note, wtf is wrong with people who thinking reading by audiobook isn't proper reading? So when your parents read you books at bedtime did that not count? Were the audiences of the Homeric poems doing it wrong because they didn't have a hardback special edition copy of the Iliad in their hands which they read in silence, remembering not to dog-ear the pages? Grow up!!)
23. What’s the fastest time it took you to read a book?
Don't know exactly but I re-read a lot of Agatha Christies that can't have taken me more than 24 hours to finish and I read Alias Emma in about that as well.
End of year book ask!

Book: Secrets of a Scottish Isle
Author: Erica Ruth Neubauer
Series: A Jane Wunderly Mystery, Book #5
Publisher: Kensington
Length: 278 Pages
Overall Rating: 4 Stars
Blog Rating: 4 Saltire Flags
The book was a bit obvious for a mystery suspense plus I found it a little slow to get going. It might be my fault as this is the first book I ever read by this author, however it is the 5th book in the Jane Wunderly Mystery series. I still enjoyed it and am giving 4 stars.
I definitely loved the paranormal elements and was totally enchanted and absolutely love when novels weave real events in history! I would recommend readers read the previous books in this series, something I am going to do. It is still a powerful novels with fascinating characters and fascinating plotslines.
Disclaimer: I received this complimentary ARC from the Kensington and NetGalley. I voluntarily agreed to read, write, and blog an advance copy of this book. All thoughts, ideas and opinions are my own.

Verity Kent Series by Anna Lee Huber
Dear Fellow Reader, I am back to talk about another mystery series. These books readily available from my local library both in book and eBook form. I know how I found this series. (a rare event) The latest in the series came out recently and my local bookstore had an event where a local mystery writer (Erica Ruth Neubauer) was going to interview the author. I did not attend the event, but I…

In Murder at the Mena House, Jane Wunderly and her aunt Millie are escaping Prohibition and the post-WWI shadows at the Mena House Hotel in Cairo.  The hotel is filled with Agatha Christie characters, including honeymooning actors with a surprising amount of cash, and Redvers, a man who claims to be a banker, although he never seems to go to work in a bank. There’s also a gallant who seems to make a living charming wealthy older women, Anna Stainton, a young woman on the hunt for either a husband or a good time, and two new young women taking up almost all of Aunt Millie’s free time.

Danger on the Atlantic
First book of 2023! (Well, a bit of a holdover from last year, but I finished today.)
It’s the third in the series, with the fourth due in March, and has quickly become one of my favorite historical mystery series. We’re in the 1920s, and our heroine/narrator is Jane Wunderly, an American, who was not exactly distraught that her husband did not return from the War. (She has excellent reasons for this.) When we first meet her in Murder at Mena House, she’s on holiday with her aunt, and just learning to stretch her wings again, when she meets a Man of Mystery named Redvers, and promptly gets swept of in murder and intrigue.
In this book (and the Criminal Element review in the link is way better), she and Redvers embark on an ocean voyage back to the United States, no aunts to get in the way, which is especially delightful as our couple are posing as husband and wife in order to sniff out a German spy.
So, spies, murder, romance, one of my top favorite tropes deployed--what more could I want to kick off the new year?
Next up: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. (I’m a bit concerned it may not live up to all the hype, but fingers crossed.)
Also currently reading: Guild Boss by Jayne Castle, and Heart on Fire by Amanda Bouchet (that one’s another holdover from last year; make of that what you will).

Series, series, series - update
Series, series, series – update

How many books did you read this year?
51 so far! My goal is 52.

Kiiinda already answered this but I'll just list them this time.

What books do you want to finish before the year is over?
The GoT reread (though we might go a little into January; I'm reading with a friend) and She Walks in Shadows (collection edited by Silvia Moreno-Garcia). I'm also on the waitlist for the audiobook of I'm Glad My Mom's Dead but I probably won't get it until January.
