I am disgusted ew. Jennifer Nocturne just kissed a CHILD on Ben 10 UA. She kissed Ben.
It doesn’t even matter if he’s 18. Still ephebophilic .
Wtf is wrong with this society, the bar is so fucking low. How hard is it to have a KIDS show with no pedophilia in it???
What happens when a kid sees this show? Are they supposed to feel honored and special to have been preyed on by an adult who knows better? Are they supposed to be grateful you m/lested them? Seriously WTF

I think this is part of why I have such an issue with when people throw out the word "pedophile" when it's something involving teens - ESPECIALLY fictional teens.
I was molested when I was a little girl by my grandfather. I was groomed and later molested by my stepfather in my preteens and early to mid teens.
Both were terrible. But I would call my ex-grandfather a pedophile, and my ex-stepfather an ephebophile. Both were predators, both were horrible, but I to this day think a pedophile is worse.
And when it's in fiction? If you're calling someone pedophile for enjoying fiction that ships a teenager with (for example) someone in their early twenties? You're diluting it.
Also people seem to ignore it happens all the time in TV, and plenty of people enjoy those relationships without realizing it. Zoe in "American Horror Story: Coven" is a sexually active 17 year old who becomes romantically involved with a university student who was the leader of a chapter at a fraternity, so I'd imagine he was in his early twenties. Buffy Summers was romantically involved at 16/17 with a centuries-old. Noah Puckerman in "Glee" slept with an Glee Club instructor in her 30s/40s while he was still in high school. In real life, many if not all of these would be likely problematic, sure, but not pedophilic. And I'm pretty sure you would see things like this on TV quite so often if they were pedophilic, either.
And goddess forbid you even mention the word "ephebophile" online, because then people start accusing you yourself of being a pedophile.
Same with when you say "teenagers are not children" or "teenagers are not the same as children". "In that ephebophilia involves biological, fertile adults, it is not considered a pathological paraphilia, unlike pedophilia which involves pre-pubescent children." But apparently if someone hears you say this, it means you yourself are a pedophile or ephebophile. I'm just saying that teenagers are in a transitional stage between childhood and adulthood - also known as adolescence, if I remember right.
If someone is attracted to prepubescent children, and has not acted on it, I think they need psychological help to deal with that nastiness. But if someone thinks 15 year-old girls are attractive, but will never act on it, I don't think they need help. There's nothing considered to be psychologically wrong with you (although I'd say if you're ONLY attracted to teenagers you have a problem).
At the end of the day, I guess I'm saying pedophilia is a serious and disgusting thing, and shouldn't be thrown about casually. It distracts from the real pedophiles out there, who need to be helped (if they haven't acted on it), locked up, or both.

Synnøve: A Ray of Hope
Tumblr media
In Season 3, Episode 14, Synnøve's neglected storyline resurfaces, but it has now taken a twist involving Thea. This unexpected shift raises unanswered questions :
What was Synnøve situation after the incident?
How does she continue working in the same environment after such a traumatic experience?
-Why did Erik in season 2 closely monitor these events if he didn't get involved?
-What caused her boss to alter his desires and begin behaving kindly? (Missing an aftermath scene).
-What is he up to in her home the other day ?
-How her personality changed in upcoming episodes?
-Anyway until now, Synnøve's storyline has felt separate from the other characters, but today’s episode sparked a glimmer of hope that her arc is not over yet ! ... I hope.

The Moth Diaries book/movie comparison SPOILERS
The movie version sort of presents and frames it in a way that viewers might feel the need to say "just because Rebecca talks to Mr. Davies about her friend problems, doesn't mean she 'was asking for it' and she even thought of him more as a surrogate father at most, and that's why it's such a betrayal on top of all the other things that make Mr. Davies' advances a betrayal"—and that's a problem with society, not the movie, that the discourse would go that way if there were discourse; that it even needs to be said.
The book version makes it so abundantly clear that Becca does not like Mr. Davies at all. She doesn't agree with him, doesn't respect him, is more than uncomfortable with his wanting to talk about her father the poet but she is even downright contemptuous and disdainful, and thinks all the other girls in her class that crush on him are annoying. Becca. Never. Liked. This. Grown-Ass. Man.

The Rise and Fall of Pop Starlets
There's a trend that happens in the U.S. Pop Starlet Industry.
It's starts with a girl, and by that I mean a female minor. She hasn't finished her basic schooling yet, but she's thrust in the public eye as a talented new performer.
She's often blonde and white. This is because the image crafted for her is one of "innocence", and "blonde and white" is the racist ideal of "innocence" from a racist industry in a racist country.
There are exceptions, though. I remember the horrifying, completely unfair backlash against Janet Jackson after Justin Timberlake exposed her breast on live television.
But back to our pop starlet. While her image is that of "innocence", this does not mean that grown men won't sexualize her. I can remember, when I myself was a minor, learning of an internet counter for how long until Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen turn eighteen. I'm a only little bit younger than them. It was disturbing.
Now, time will pass as time does, and these pop starlets will grow up. Except that, since their public image is centered around their youth and innocents, them growing up into a mature, sexual adult is a risk to the bottom line of those older adults around them with monetary investment in them. So they aren't allowed to grow up.
The pop starlet will push back against this because they aren't a child anymore. Maybe they're release a song entitled "I'm Not That Innocent". Maybe they'll pose topless. Maybe Robin Thicke will twerk with them during a performance. (Like Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke will be spared the blunt of the ensuing public anger. He is a man.)
There's often a rap soundtrack involved. Rap is constructed as the opposite of "innocent" by a racist industry in a racist country.
This will be followed by a fierce public backlash in which the pop starlet is condemned for daring to grow up and wanting to be an adult rather than a perpetual innocent child [nevertheless heavily sexualized by grown men].
Now, pop starlets are human, and no human is made to bear the brunt of a country's anger. The condemnation is followed by drug abuse and then rehab. In the case of Brittney Spears, it was followed also by a horrifying conservatorship.
The pop startlet might still be around after this. They might still perform and have a degree of popularity. But they'll never again be the country's darling. The country will have moved on to the next pop starlet to be propped up and then destroyed.
Anyway, this is why it makes me uncomfortable to see so much vitriol against Taylor Swift on my dash. Because despite following much of the pattern above, she's made it into her mid thirties without being destroyed.
And I have the suspicion that that's the source of much of the vitriol against her. How dare she continue to be successful? How dare she not be destroyed? Doesn't she know she's a girl and thus exists to be consumed and used up?
Oh, I know people will claim it's because she's a billionaire and flies a private plane, but I don't see the same sort of vitriol against Warren Buffett or Michael Bloomberg or Charles Koch or Rupert Murdoch. Not like I see against Taylor Swift.

Ah I just realized that Terry Long said at the beginning of the first NTT series (#8) that he met Donna “about a year ago” right after his divorce. Dick is implied to be around 18 at this time, which would make Donna also around that age. Which means Donna met Terry when she was about 17. Terry Long was confirmed to be around 10 years older than her in NTTv1 #20, making him 27–28 when they met. Technically I probably knew this but it’s more disturbing when I actually do the math.

But anyone who has spent his adolescence in a monastery, even if he has kept himself chaste, often hears talk of such passions, and at times he has to protect himself from the snares of those enslaved by them. Little novice that I was, had I not already received from an aged monk, at Melk, scrolls with verses that as a rule a layman devotes to a woman? The monkish vows keep us far from that sink of vice that is the female body, but often they bring us close to other errors. Can I finally hide from myself the fact that even today my old age is still stirred by the noonday demon when my eyes, in choir, happen to linger on the beardless face of a novice, pure and fresh as a maiden's?
I'm tempted to joke, "Adso of Melk: canonically gay and homophobic," but in all honesty, if I was a medieval teenager living in an extremely religious environment and my first exposure to queerness was an old man sending me unsolicited love poems, I'd probably struggle with a severe case of internalized homophobia too.
