Back in 2019, Brad Pitt both starred in and produced the sci-fi film Ad Astra. The film takes viewers on a breathtaking voyage through the solar system, following astronaut Roy McBride as he undertakes a perilous mission to uncover the truth about his father’s disappearance. Thirty years earlier, his father’s doomed expedition not only left unanswered questions but now threatens the survival of humanity itself.
While Ad Astra didn’t dominate the box office at the time of its release, it achieved moderate success and has since gained a loyal cult following. The film’s striking visuals and introspective themes have resonated deeply with viewers, especially on home video and streaming platforms. Its exploration of the father-son relationship has struck a chord, with many dreamers and aspiring astronauts inspired by its depiction of human resilience and longing for the stars.
For Brad Pitt, however, playing an astronaut was as close as he’d get to fulfilling a childhood dream—or perhaps rewriting one. Reflecting on his role at the time, he shared a candid and lighthearted take on the experience. Whether you’re revisiting Ad Astra or discovering it for the first time, the film offers an unforgettable ride through space, packed with emotional depth and stunning cinematography. It is now available on DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K, digital platforms, and streaming on Hulu.

'Moneyball' - One of the Best Baseball Movies Ever
WRITER’S NOTE: This movie review was written in 2012. I present it now as the latest baseball season has now begun. “Moneyball” is, for my money, the best baseball movie since “Bull Durham” as, like Ron Shelton’s 1988 classic, it takes a very unique look at this American pastime and the players who inhabit it. Whereas most baseball movies are about rising to the occasion and winning the big…

everybody is obsessed with you guys, especially the media paparazzi pictures of you guys together sell for upwards of thousands to millions
you guys first bonded on the fact that you were both trusted into the entertainment industry at a young age.
you were scouted when you were 12 and since becoming a child model you have been one of the most successful in the business. brad was known as a child actor and got his raise to fame as Kevin McCallister in “Home Alone”
the content your fans get at fashion month is just too good
as you strut down the runaway the camera would always pan to brad’s face is amazement 😍
as you do high-fashion campaigns and photoshoots , he would always give your friends fans bts content on his instagram stories

don’t get it twisted y/n is just as much as a simp as brad
you loved seeing him at work , just all the passion he puts into his performances
the two would always go viral for your outfits(why we’re always chefs kiss😽)
especially when you guys went to the Oscar’s , he was nominated and your complimenting outfits where at the top of best dressed list
even though Brad lost the award , you guys were the most tweeted celebrities of the night
despite their Hollywood fame , y/n and brad are very down-to-earth who values their privacy and likes to keep a low profile.
when you guys are asked about each other in interviews , you confirm but not say too much which keep the general public wanting more
there was a rumour that you guys broke up because there was no recent pics of you guys , it didn’t help with deuxmoi and e!news spreading misinformation from “trusted close sources”
when finally a paparazzi spotted you guys leaving your gated community , finally peace was restored in the world
his family adores you
when he first brought up this idea you were really nervous but when you actually meet his family it was amazing
you and his family clicked immediately , you and his sister became bestie and his mom loves making dinner with you.
you love hearing all the embarrassing stories from brad’s childhood from his dad and brother

Remember how Max hated how the races were treated like shows and all the concerts that were being featured at F1 events like they were merely quirky entertainment and not an actual sporting event?
Remember in Qatar last year when the drivers were passing in and out of consciousness due to the heat. George pulling his visor up to only be met with sand in his face. Lance saying he literally blacked out a few times. Fernando asking for water to be thrown on him whilst he was in the car.
Don't even get me started on that new rainbow road ass track they're going to build that looks so absolutely dangerous that people worry for their safety.
F1 isn't some TV show and it's shit like this movie that only brings more people into watching it with that mindset. These are athletes who jump into super engineered machines that go at insane high speeds and then race them.
"Who said anything about safety?" has left such a gross feeling in me every time I see that screenshot now. Safety is supposed to be one of the most important aspects of F1 and showcasing that it's not to an audience that has probably never watched a race before is... Idk. I don't like it.
You can argue it's just a movie and it's all done for dramatisation but if that was the case, why are the real drivers in the movie? They're being treated like they aren't there to do their job. Which is to actually drive.
Also fuck Brad Pitt.
If you wanted to make F1 fictional content. It is literally perfect; lore wise, animation wise, character development wise, and literally everything else, for anime or just regular animation. A netflix animated show would LITERALLY be a banger.

Brad Pitt famously once said: “You shouldn't speak until you know what you're talking about. That's why I get uncomfortable with interviews. Reporters ask me what I feel China should do about Tibet. Who cares what I think China should do? I'm a fucking actor! They hand me a script. I act. I'm here for entertainment. Basically, when you whittle everything away, I'm a grown man who puts on makeup.”
He’s right. I don’t want to hear rich entertainers’ opinions on important world issues, H included. I love him, and I respect him for staying quiet.
Hi, love. Personally, I feel the same. I don’t care to hear celebrities’ opinions on world news. It can be very hard to enjoy a person’s creative output when you know too much about them as a person. Brad Pitt is a good example. He’s a very good actor, but I dislike many of the things he’s done as a person and it’s hard to separate that from who I see on film.
We used to know very little about celebrities beyond what the studios/labels wanted us to know. I’m not sure it’s a good thing that that’s all changed with social media and everyone having a camera in their pocket. There’s an expectation that just because you have “a platform” you’re required to use it in ways you may not be well-informed enough to do so (and run the risk of being “canceled” when you’re on the “wrong” side or show your support clumsily).
The fact that so many people rush to vilify anyone who publicly makes mistakes often leads to paralysis and fear of saying anything that might lead to public shaming. It’s just not as simple as “speaking up for what’s right.”
But I can understand that others feel differently. And I can understand wanting information to be shared by someone who has millions and millions of followers and whose fans will follow their lead.

After writing, producing, and directing two A Quiet Place horror movies, John Krasinski has gone in the opposite direction with IF, a family-friendly comedy that mixes live action with the animated "invisible friends" that give the movie its title. Ryan Reynolds is one of the film's live-action stars (along with Krasinski), while the animated voice cast includes Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Awkwafina, George Clooney, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, to name just a few. Reynolds and Krasinski are also producers on the film, having developed the idea together, and Reynolds talked to us about how the project came about.
IF is now playing in theaters.

Movie Minute: Cool World (1992)
Guys, uh, I found something bizarre on YouTube yesterday and I have to talk about it. I can't let myself focus on this for more than a few hours, so enjoy this new thing called Movie Minute where I word vomit out a bunch of stuff in an attempt to purge the subject from my mind.
youtube
Cool World is what would happen if Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Heavy Metal procreated. I'm 100% convinced its target audience was middle school-aged boys during a time period where porn was physically printed media and not a 2-second google search away. It tries so hard to be edgy and instead succeeds in being the most uncomfortable thing I've ever seen.
Do you want to know what it'd look like for a real life human to "make it" with a cartoon? No? What if the human was the nerdy German professor from Little Women and the cartoon was Kim Basinger? Well, the director of Cool World, Ralph Bakshi certainly did and now we're all worse off.
Nothing could have prepared me for the plot of this movie. Riffing on Bakshi's original concept, the writing pair that also gave us Starsky and Hutch and 2 Poltergeist movies posits "What if a separate animated world called Toontown Cool World existed? And in that world a down-on-his-luck human detective played by Bob Hoskins Brad Pitt and his cartoon sidekick called Roger Rabbit Nails investigated the extracurricular activities of a sultry singing bombshell named Jessica Rabbit Holli Would? And what if a toon Doodle tried to impersonate a human Noid for their own personal gain disregarding how it affected the citizens of their own town? Like, what if someone told that story?!"
Tumblr media
Honestly, I don't want to focus too deeply on the similarities between this and Who Framed Roger Rabbit because that is an entertaining movie and Cool World is teenage spank bank slop. It tries to be more than that, but after the 30th scene of cartoon Kim Basinger doing this exact thing, I think it lost the plot.
Tumblr media
See, Brad Pitt's character Frank Harris is a WW2 vet who returns to Las Vegas to be with his mother after the war. During a motorcycle ride they get hit by a drunk driver, and Frank's mom immediately dies. Simultaneously, some cartoon scientist opens a rift between Cool World and Real World using some "spike" he invented, witnesses Frank's emotional break that somehow interferes with the spike and facilitates his transportation into Cool World.
How did this cartoon scientist rip a hole into reality? How did Frank navigate between the real world and Cool World by being really, really upset? I dunno, fuck you for asking.
Instead of being like hm, clearly this is a psychotic break, I should try to get back to reality, Frank spends the next 47 years of his life in Cool World, somehow nagging a job as its only detective. What's he trying to prevent from happening? Holli, a Doodle played by Kim Basinger, fucking a Noid.
Tumblr media
First of all, the slang they created in this movie in an attempt to build out Cool World is :chefs kiss: amount of cringe. The animated creatures are called "Doodles" and the humans are "Noids". The antagonist, aptly named Holli Would ("Holli would if she could... And she will" EYEROLL) wants to become a Noid and travel to the real world where powerful woman have agency because Marilyn Monroe seemed to have all her shit together. The only way Holli can do that, however, is to have sex with a real-life Noid because Noid sperm turns Doodles into Noids, I guess.
Tumblr media
Since our chaste friend Frank won't give up the goods, Holli targets Jack Deebs, a cartoonist she inspired to write the "Cool World" comic series because of her frequent visits in his dreams. Jack is currently serving time in jail for murdering his wife's lover, but somehow has an entire art studio in his cell and Holli scribbled on his walls. He's going to be released in a few days, and he moans out a thanks to Holli for helping him through his time incarcerated. I don't for a second want to picture Gabriel Byrne jackin' it to a picture he drew of a blonde chick, but here we are.
How has Holli been communicating with Jack? Did she reach out to him first, or did he somehow slip into Cool World by accident? How did Holli pull him into Cool World? Is the "spike" facilitating this interaction somehow? I dunno, fuck you for asking.
Tumblr media
Frank catches wind of this new development and hunts down Jack to have a little chat about The Rules. The sexual tension between the two factions is incredibly awkward, but my favorite line in the whole movie is the intimidating way Brad Pitt spits at Gabriel Byrne, "Noids do not have sex with Doodles".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Keep your PENCIL in your POCKET if you know what I mean."
Someone had to write this. Someone had to print this in a script, give it to a director, have them sign off on it, deliver it to two well-known actors, block it, rehearse it, and then tell Brad Pitt, hot off of Thelma & Louise fame, to deliver this so fucking earnestly that we would believe if Gabriel Byrne stuck his dick in a cartoon the world would explode. And then Brad repeats the rule the same way Tyler reiterates to new members not to talk about Fight Club.
The missed opportunity of Frank not warning Jack with, "Don't diddle a Doodle" breaks my heart if I think about it more than 2 seconds.
So what does Jack do after this encounter? Fuck Holli.
Tumblr media
This turns her into a Noid, cause again, magic Noid sperm will do that. Jack and Holli somehow travel back to the Real World and Holli immediately tries to stage fuck Frank Sinatra Jr. in an attempt to get famous. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding about any of this.
youtube
Except the effect of the sperm starts to wear off, threatening to turn Holli back into a Doodle. Jack also starts morphing into a Doodle because cross contamination, I guess? This makes him nervous but he's generally inept and can't think of a way to fix it. Holli decides the best course of action is to hunt down the "spike" to give her power, which she thinks is at the top of the Union Plaza hotel in downtown Las Vegas because of a rumor about a Doodle named Vegas Vinnie who crossed over years before and guys, the last 30 minutes of this movie are come at you fast, please try to stay with me here.
Tumblr media
See, Vegas Vinnie is based on the scientist from the beginning of the movie. He was afraid of someone exploiting the rift he created, so he used the "spike" to plug the tunnel between Cool World and Real World lest they bleed into each other. This rift just happens to be at the top of a massive casino, so Holli ditches Jack and attempts to climb up there herself to grab the spike. Frank figures out the plan, relieves the trauma of losing his mother to travel back to the real world, and goes to the site of the spike with intentions to arrest Holli. She Doodle shifts to shove Frank off the building, unsheathes the "spike" like it were Excalibur, and inadvertently triggers the merging of the two worlds.
Tumblr media
I'm having Super Mario Bros. flashbacks and this movie came out a year before that.
Tumblr media
Jack witnesses Holli murder Frank and only then decides to embrace his inner Doodle and stop this catastrophe from happening. He transforms into a super hero, smashes his way through the Doodle ghouls, bypasses Holli and returns the spike to its home.
Tumblr media
The Doodles (including Doodle Jack and Frank's Noid corpse) are returned back to Cool World. I think we're supposed to feel bad Frank died from a 50 story fall, but actually it's fine because when a Doodle murders a Noid the Noid turns into a Doodle somehow. These rules are just... whatever, it doesn't matter, they are what they are.
Tumblr media
Now Frank can fuck his Doodle girlfriend that I completely forgot to mention he has guilt-free. The end.
The marketing for this film was bananas. Paramount partnered with DC to release a prequel comic book series and set the stage for the story. They donated money to the parks department to promote the movie by plastering a cutout of Holli on the Hollywood sign, which outraged people exactly as much as you think it would. They also worked with David fucking Bowie to record a song for the soundtrack.
youtube
How, as a child of the 80s/90s and teenage fan of Brad Pitt, did I not once encounter Cool World before it randomly appeared as a free movie on YouTube?! Maybe because this had an estimated budget of 30 Million dollars and only grossed shy of half that. The plot is convoluted, the interactions between live action footage and animation never look natural, and the performance of every single one of these decent actors is terrible somehow. Kim Basinger is more of a cartoon character in the live action footage than she is animated, which is a shame because she's absolutely capable of being funny while being seductive. Cool World only solidified my #teamlaurie allegiance cause I can never look Gabriel Byrne in the eyes again. And how did Brad Pitt get cast as a detective in Se7en after his creative accent choices in this?!
Tumblr media
So, what did we learn? Uhhhh... Don't fuck a toon, even if they look like Kim Basinger. It always ends bad.
Also, they made several Cool World video games and if I can find one I'm 100% going to play it on twitch.

ROBERT BLAKE
ROBERT BLAKE
18 September 1933 – 9 March 2023
Robert Blake is an American actor who started his career as a child actor best known as appearing in Our Gang (Little Rascals). He went on to portray Perry Smith in In Cold Blood (1967) and appeared in David Lynch’s film The Lost Highway (1997).
Blake was born in Nutley, New Jersey into a family of entertainers who then after moved to Los Angeles in 1938. Blake grew up being violently abused by his father, at school he was bullied and was sexually assaulted by his father and ran away from home aged 14. His father took his own life in 1956.
Blake’s successful acting career came to an end when he was accused of killing his wife Bonny Lee Bakely in 2005. Blake was married three times and had three children.
He married Bonny Lee Bakley in 1999, who had been married nine times previously and had a history of preying on older successful men for their money. During their relationship she was also involved with Christian Brando, the son of Marlon Brando. She got pregnant and told both men that the baby was theirs and Blake married her in 2000, he became her tenth husband. A DNA test proved he was the father.
On 4 May 2001, Blake took Bakley out for dinner at a restaurant in California where Bakley was shot and killed whilst inside his vehicle. Blake stated he returned to the restaurant to collect a gun which he left inside the restaurant and wasn’t with Bakley when she was murdered. His gun in the restaurant wasn’t the weapon that was used in her death.
In 2002, Blake was arrested and charged with her murder, his bodyguard, Earle Caldwell was also arrested for involvement in the crime. A retired stuntman, Ronald ‘Duffy’ Hambleton alleged that Blake attempted to hire him to kill Bakely, another stuntman came forward, Gary McLarty who also made the same allegation. Blake pled not guilty and after spending a year in prison he was given bail in 2003 and was placed under house arrest. There wasn’t enough evidence to tie him to the murder and he was found not guilty in 2005. A civil suit was filed against Blake by three of his children, stating he killed their mother, he was found liable and Blake had to pay $15 million.
In 2010, Blake was in hot water once again for not paying his taxes. In 2021, Quention Tarantino dedicated his book Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to Blake. Brad Pitt’s character mirrors Blake’s life in the film (2019).
Blake died from heart disease in Los Angeles in 2023, aged 89.

Pushing It (Boston Globe, 1 Feb 2009)
In Hollywood, where everybody grabs at success, Sudbury's Chris Evans has made it to a starring role in the new film 'Push' - and he doesn't mind saying what it took to get there
By Rebecca DiLiberto, Globe Correspondent / February 1, 2009
Tumblr media
LOS ANGELES - Meet Chris Evans: oversize hoodie, unassuming posture, well-washed chinos, freshly scrubbed skin, rosy cheeks, $10 haircut, willing to make eye contact with strangers. Hanging out over coffee at a suburban strip mall, you wouldn't figure him for a movie star.
That's exactly how the Sudbury native likes it.
"I think when I first came out here I was very hungry to get to the top," says the actor, who stars as a young telekenetic on the run from authorities in "Push," opening Friday. "Now I'm kind of at this middle road, and I'm looking around like, isn't life pretty much as great as I want it right now? If you get too far, there's no off switch. Once you're Brad Pitt, you can't not be Brad Pitt."
At 27, Chris Evans is the model of how to go from being a high school drama geek to claiming status as a successful working actor. While his career hasn't necessarily exploded yet, he's had a critically acclaimed turn as an astronaut-slash-engineer in Danny Boyle's "Sunshine," and a commercial windfall as the human torch in "Fantastic Four" franchise - notches on a resume that anyone aspiring to work in Holly wood would envy.
How did Evans get to here from there? At the beginning of his career, he paid his dues in some barely seen films.
"Luckily, my first couple of movies were really terrible," he says. "There was 'Not Another Teen Movie' not a blockbuster, and then 'The Perfect Score,' which was gone in a New York minute, and then I did a movie called 'Cellular,' which was gone, then 'Orphan King,' which never even made it to theaters.
"Your first movie, you think, 'This is it! Look out world!' And then you're like, 'Oh. . . back to the drawing board, I guess.' And then three or four times in you're like, 'All right no one sets out to make a bad movie, but there are a lot of them.' "
Evans is not one of those leading men whose ego you have to stroke. In fact, he won't let you. Complimented on his performance in "Sunshine," he credits director Boyle: "He could make this coffee cup give a brilliant performance." Congratulated on the natural relationship he shares with costar Dakota Fanning in "Push," he says, "Dakota is unbelievable. She could be acting with a sneaker."
While Evans and Fanning indeed demonstrate a real connection in "Push," the movie itself is a bit uneven, and Evans is the first to admit it. With compelling action sequences and charismatic actors, "Push" is a respectable popcorn flick, but its story has trouble hanging together.
In the film's own production notes, Evans is quoted as saying, "We're not sending any deep messages. This is a pure entertainment film, like a lot of my favorite movies."
While Evans is careful not to say anything specifically negative about "Push," his shrug and tone suggest that he's chalking this one up to experience. "This process was one where I had to learn a little bit. It was the first time I've ever worked on a movie where there was no rehearsal, and that just felt crazy to me. But. . . everyone likes to do things differently, and you've got to be ready for that."
Evans says he has learned that the key to turning in a performance he's proud of lies in trusting his director. "At the end of the day, you're handing your performance over. And so if a director says, after a take, 'You know what, try it just really angry. Just get furious.' And you're like, 'Well I don't know if I want to give you that, because I don't know if I trust what you're going to do with it."
The director Evans has trusted completely so far is "Sunshine" director Boyle, who has been receiving accolades this year for his work on "Slumdog Millionaire." Evans attributes the performances Boyle gets out of his actors to rigorous rehearsal. "He's a theater guy, and the actors he hires are all of the mind-set that preparation is the key. We were in London about a month before we started shooting and we ran it every day, like a play. . . . I got to the point with Danny where he could've been like, 'Do the next take in Spanish,' and I would've been like 'All right, I will do that Danny, I trust you so much I'm ready to be vulnerable and explore and take risks.'
"Danny Boyle's a ninja. I don't know if I'll ever have a better performance, he's just so good," Evans says.
Evans is brimming with anticipation for his next project, "Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World," which co-stars Michael Cera and will be directed by Edgar Wright, late of "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz." "I would trust [him] with my finances; I would trust [him] to organize a party. He's just smart. I can't wait. . . to give [him] whatever [he] wants and let [him] run with it and then hopefully kick out a good product. It's an exciting process to feel safe."
Film sets aside, the place Evans feels safest is at home in the Boston area where he has extended family. His uncle is US Representative and former mayor of Somerville Michael Capuano. Growing up, he performed at the Concord Youth Theatre - his siblings are also alums, and his mother is now the artistic director - and was obsessed with going to games at the Garden, eating pizza at Leone's, and sledding in Sudbury. And let us not forget seeing nature films at the Museum of Science's Omni Theater. "I haven't been in like five or six years, so maybe the screen isn't even that big, but I remember it being huge. They always have such great movies. 'Polar Bears'! Or 'Deep Caves!' "
Last year, Evans got to settle back into his old ways when he took a three-month sabbatical at his childhood home. "No one talks about movies, and no one [cares] about acting, and they'll give it to you straight," he says of connecting with his old circle of friends. "You come out [to LA], and every single conversation you have at a nightclub is, you know, 'Hey, I saw your trailer! What are you working on? You know what I saw? You know who I met? You know who knows you?' "
