Suffering from Epic: The Musical is the kind of song that completely messes with your head. The siren gives you everything you think you want—everything. She becomes Penelope, Odysseus’s wife, and suddenly, he’s not fighting through wars or monsters. Instead, he’s standing face-to-face with the dream he’s been chasing all this time. She’s begging him to join her in the water, to leave everything behind and be with her forever.

But Odysseus? He’s not fooled. He’s onto her. He sees through the illusion. She’s pretending to be Penelope, offering him the one thing he’s been fighting for all along—the appearance of his wife, and yet, it’s all just a trap. He’s using her. He’s using her manipulation to get closer to the information he needs to finally return to Penelope, to the woman he truly loves.

And God, when he sings “The things I’d do for you,” it’s like a gut punch. There’s such longing in his voice. He’s willing to sacrifice everything for his wife, and that kind of devotion? God, give me a man who would burn the world down for me like that. The things I’d do for him…

But here’s the thing—the surface of this song is so romantic. It sounds like a dream. “Come play with me in the water.” That sweet, almost innocent request. That feeling of being wanted, needed, loved in the purest sense. But underneath it all, it’s a death sentence. The siren, even though she appears to be Penelope, is trying to lure him to his death.

And here’s where my mind goes: how much of this is like maladaptive daydreaming? The siren’s voice is seductive because it offers the dream—that idealized version of love, the one you’ve been imagining in your head, the one you’re always chasing but can never quite hold onto. I’m so guilty of it—falling in love with the vision of someone in my mind, or a fictional character, the fantasy of them that I’ve created. But the problem is, that love isn’t real. You can’t love someone who doesn’t exist, and in doing that, you rob yourself of living your actual life. It’s like dissociation: the dream world feels so much easier, so much more comforting than the real one.

The siren, in a way, represents that distorted vision of love. She offers everything you’ve ever wanted, but at what cost? Sure, it’s romantic, but it’s toxic. It’s a trap, and the real love—what Odysseus has with Penelope—is what he’s fighting to return to. Even though the dream looks perfect, he knows it’s not.

But as an Enneagram 2, as someone who wants to love so deeply that I’d take on others’ suffering, I get it. It’s that temptation to make someone’s pain mine, to save them, to turn their suffering into something I can manage because maybe, just maybe, they’ll love me in return. It’s romantic in the most disturbed way—yeah, but also, it’s human. And it’s real.

In the end, I’d take the suffering from anyone I loved—friends, family, anyone—because I’d do anything for them. And maybe, just maybe, that’s the real power of love: the willingness to carry that pain and still try to make something beautiful out of it. So long as you don’t kill both of you by drowning in love.

Enneagram 5 Subtype Explained

The Social 5 "Totem"

The SO5 is the most assertive and ambitious of the enneagram 5. This subtype combines the desire of E5 (knowledge and understanding) and the social drive to create and share knowledge. They find great importance In the power of knowledge. Usually having a hyper fixed desire on what is true and logistically correct. John Lukovich describes them as having a "promethean calling" which I think is probably the most accurate of this subtype. Due to their desire to share their obtained knowledge.

The SP 5 looks to fulfill their desire for knowledge and understanding through gaining insight on their specific interest. The 5 have this 9ish quality to them in the sense that the desire to create an environment that makes them comfortable. However unlike the 9 the sp5 does it in order to maxine efficiency in their interest. This subtype maybe the most social awkward of the enneagram. I personally would attribute curiosity as their defining characteristic. Usually this subtype looks like a typical 5 (quite and reserved) however they can also look like 9s due their introverted and constant narcotization.

The Sexual 5 "Trust"

As the counter type of E5 this subtype looks to find a personal other through the sharing of interest and insight. This subtype subverts the usual conventions of the E5 by being focused on emotional desire. However they are stick an E5 so the struggle of them being a rejection type is still there. They go about fulfilling their core desire by finding a significant other that holds their exact same interest. Similar to the E4 they portray an image of somebody who us deeply interesting however unlike the E4 its not an image but a reality of the subjects interest and desires.

The Enneagram Types at a Pool Party

Type One: Probably laying out with big sunglasses on talking about how they could have decorated the pool better than the host did.

Type Two: Definitely made snack trays and brought them, giving everyone juice boxes, etc. They are also taking a LOT of pictures and talking their friends’ ears off. Type Three: Almost definitely the host of the pool party. Spends a lot of the time laying out; talks a lot about how much they spent on the pool, how beautiful it is, etc.

Type Four: Pretending they are in a movie while they lay out and stare off into the distance, occasionally dipping their feet into the pool. Type Five: Either stayed inside or, if they do decide to come outside, they are sitting in the shade on their computer or reading a book. Type Six: Making sure everyone has sunscreen on. Definitely had a checklist and is freaking out if they forgot to bring something.

Type Seven: Jumping off the diving board, going down the slide, doing flips, literally just acting like little pool heathens the entire time they are there. Little wild people. Type Eight: They might be laying out and are the person to yell at you if you tip their float. Has shoved at least three people into the pool. 50/50 chance they jump into the pool like the seven has been. It’s pretty crazy how much HotD season 2 misunderstood Daemon’s character.

While Daemon has tried to gain power, he always gives it away or runs when power is taken away instead of fighting for it. Daemon doesn’t want to be the power on the throne, he wants to be loved by his family and the only way he thinks he can get the love is by being given symbols of power.

He runs away when Viserys gets mad at him and reinforces that he is not heir because Daemon feels rejected.

He goes to war in the stepstones not because he wants the power but because he wants Viserys to see him as strong again and so he can have Corlys fill in that role that Viserys left open. Once he was the stepstones, he gives them to Viserys because he doesn’t want to be a powerful pirate king, he wants his brother to love him and accept him.

Daemon goes after Rhaenyra so that he can become heir again by marrying her. But when Viserys rejects him because he loves his daughter more than Daemon and won’t let him hurt her, he runs away.

When he marries Laena, I think it starts off as him gaining favor with Corlys by giving his daughter a royal match and getting rid of her betrothed. But after, Daemon changes. He goes exploring with Laena and doesn’t try to become the next ruler of the three cities. He’s happy with her because he’s secure and doesn’t feel he needs to fight in a war to gain the love and approval of people.

But after Laena dies, Daemon feels he has to regain his position in Visery’s heart as his son in law because he needs someone to be that father figure again. I think that Daemon was the one who instigated both Laenor and Harwin’s deaths to free up Rhaenyra for marriage.

Now Dameon has to fight to keep Rhaenyra and himself in power. He kills Vaemomd, orchestrated Jaeheary’s murder, and leads the war for her. But he’s not happy because power is never what he wanted. He wants to be loved for himself and to be free and he finds that in Nettles. So when Rhaenyra tells him to kill Nettles, he decides he can’t continue to fight for Rhaenyra and must sacrifice himself to keep Nettles alive.

Dameon’s story is about realizing that power isn’t what he wants, he wants to be loved for himself and to be free from restraint and pain. He finds that love in Laena and Nettles. He never truly wanted the throne, he wanted the family member on the throne to love him.

Basically Daemon is a type 7 on the Ennegram. I’ll go more into it in his character analysis.

Bruce is a 5 no doubt.

I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory. The description is a checklist of his personality traits.

Dick

Dick is 1, 2, and 3.

I would say 3 is his overarching personality, 1 is a secondary/support of the main one - 3 - and 2 is the other half of his personality. The thing about Dick is that he feels an almost pathological need to keep succeeding, keep doing better, and break every limit. It's not for anyone else, it's for himself because he doesn't feel like himself if he's not perfect. All of 1, 2, and 3's traits

Jason

Jason is an 8.

Ever since his Robin days, Jason has always been more on the willful side. As in, I want to do my own thing. Deal with it. And after coming back as Red Hood he wasn't initially self-confident but he's grown into it. No one can influence him to do anything and he's ready to throw hands if someone pushes too much.

Tim

Tim is a 5 or 6.

Smart, genius boy detective obviously (he's no isolated tho) so that explains 5 but Tim leans more towards 6. He's loyal to the cause and he's very responsible. But he's also a huge cute dork who's always on the look out for something that is off and he's always worried and thinking about what's wrong and what could go wrong. He's mainly a 6 with a little bit of 5 added in (perceptive, innovative, sometimes secretive).

Cass

Cass is a 5.

Cass and Bruce are identical. The way they think and act, Cass is a like a Batman 2.0 but better.

Steph

Steph is a 4.

DC really wants her to be a 7-

But I wrote a whole essay on why she's not a 7, but a 4 instead. She's not self-absorbed in the "I only love myself" way, she more of a "How can I constantly improve myself" type. When something bad happens her mind can get really down in the dumps about it but she tries her best to be positive - she's not withdrawn but expressive, dramatic, and temperamental definitely.

Damian

Dami is 3 or 8.

The achiever was instilled in him by his mother to constantly work to be the best at whatever he tries and now it's just a part of his personality. He's very self-conscious. 8 because like Jason, he does what he wants when he wants. No one can tell him what to do (unless it's Dick but gosh Bruce really tried).

Duke

Duke is 9.

Duke is extremely strong-willed but he does it in a nice way. He works towards heroism and every action he takes, it's aimed at helping people. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong and nothing will stop him from doing what is right. That being said, he gets along with everyone and is very easy going and caring, it's just that he won't compromise his morals for it. He's very loving in like a familial way.

Barbara

Barbara is an 8.

Dominant. She has a strong need to be in control at all times and know everything and when something gets in the way of that control, she gets very angry and persistent. She's confident in her abilities and makes decisions in which no one can influence her. She knows what she wants and she will get it whatever may come.

backstory.

dom grew up in salem. he's the oldest of five kids. his parents are still in town and he stuck around partially to take care of them as they got older and also because he couldn't really imagine himself anywhere else. (he sometimes thinks they're disappointed that he didn't pursue a more impactful career, but he thinks that permanent body art is pretty damn impactful).

he was a creative kid. during recess, most of the other kids were playing pickup soccer football or tag. dom was scribbling away in one of countless composition notebooks. in fact, he was doing that during class, too, much to his parents' chagrin. they had to take sketch pads away from him more than once.

he's a natural athlete and he did play football all through high school. he probably would have played in college, too, if he didn't blow out his knee his senior year. while his parents were devastated, dom privately didn't really mind. he had no idea what he wanted to study if he did go away to school and he hadn't gotten a full scholarship, so sticking around in salem to help out with his little siblings was fine with him.

besides, it meant he got to become an apprentice at inked crow. at first, he was mostly sitting at the desk answers phones, booking appointments, and cleaning up once the shop closed, but he got to draw a lot during down time...and he got a lot of cheap ink from the newer artists by offering himself up as a canvas.

the rest is pretty much history. he slowly moved up the ranks to become one of the town's most sought after tattoo artists and he spends his afternoons and evenings doing what he loves: helping people get their dream tattoos. he's known for his custom designs and he never uses the same one twice.

his dad recently fell and broke his hip, so he's spending a lot of time at his parents making sure they have hot meals and that his dad isn't pushing himself too much.

many of his classmates and friends have moved on, so dom keeps to himself -spending time re-reading books he liked as a kid, drawing, working out, drawing, binge watching the latest netflix original, drawing, playing video games or drawing.

he's a little bit closed off because he's been burned before, but he has his handful of his people who he'd protect with his life...and once you get to know him, the prickly outer shell fades into a pretty funny -albeit sarcastic- artist.

Everyone else you work with (maybe there are one or two exceptions) tends to think about what they want and act on it compulsively. You're level headed, thoughtful, something he wasn't used to at first, but instantly fell for

You and Marvin are constantly doing things to make each others lives easier. You might wash the dishes one night while he folds the laundry. Showing up at the office with coffee and something sweet when he pulls an all-nighter. Small gestures that mean so much and that show your love

Dealing with Butcher means being told hurtful things and being expected to brush it off like it's nothing. Knowing it'll hurt you deeply, Marvin makes it clear to him (in private of course) that you're off limits. He can be an a--hole to him all he wants, but he draws the line when it comes to you, no exceptions

Marvin definitely takes inventory of all the things you collect (posters, trinkets, etc.) and, no matter what, finds something to add to it. He finds tons of small, cute things that remind him of you. They're left on your desk or on the counter in the kitchen where he knows you'll see. Usually there's a little note attached in his pristine handwriting, always with a heart by his name as if you didn't know it was him who'd left it there

This song hits like a wave you didn’t see coming, and honestly? I’m still out here treading water. Who let Jorge Rivera-Herrans take a magnifying glass to my love life! Honestly he didn’t just write a song—he wrote the experience of every person who’s loved with their whole heart and still ended up alone. And let’s be honest, when you’re an Enneagram 2, an ENFJ, the Helper, loving too much feels less like a choice and more like breathing.

The thing about Calypso—yeah, maybe keeping Odysseus on the island wasn’t her best moment (a little toxic, sure). But can you blame her? She didn’t just want him—she needed someone, too. To love and to be loved in equal measure. That quiet desperation we don’t talk about enough: pouring love into friendships, family, jobs, anything, just to feel that connection and reciprocity. We give. We love. And then we wait.

And tell me why at 29, single and thriving (chronically alone but doing my best), I feel like I am on my own metaphorical Ogygia—this beautiful, lonely space I made for someone who hasn’t arrived yet. It’s mine, I’ve made it beautiful, but there’s still that quiet question: When will someone come? And if they do come, will they leave just as quickly? Will I be “too much,” or will they realize they have someplace else to be?

But here’s what I keep coming back to: I’m not sorry for the way I love. Desperately, fully, sometimes messily—sure. But it’s real. And I know I’m not alone in that. Calypso isn’t a villain for loving too hard; and neither am I.

If loving friends, family, partners—even jobs—feels like a lifeline, that’s okay. It’s not weakness. It’s proof of how much we’re capable of giving. Maybe my love traps me on an island sometimes, but at least it’s a love that’s worth something. And maybe someday, someone will see it and stay—not because they’re trapped, but because they want to.

Until then, I’m here on my island—building, growing, and owning my Calypso era. I love the way I do, and I’m not sorry for it.

Enneagram 1 Subtypes Explained

Social 1 "Rigidity"

As a Social type they put their focus on the external world and how they can better it. They do this through showing their integrity and taking on moral responsibilities. Enneagram 1 is known for their ideals and their need to help others. In the case of the social 1 they do this through helping the world Bia creating a moral standard others and themselves can follow. A healthy social 1 will move past their need for moral superiority and perfection and will set a real, achievable moral standard that can benefit the world. An unhealthy social 1 will become detached, more rigid and judgmental from others. Becoming detached and forcing their inflexible moral standards on everyone. They can often resemble an E5 due to their competency focused approach to morality. Or a E2 due to their need to help people.

The simplest way to understand the SP1 is through "personal choices". While the SO1 is focused on helping others to find morality. The SP1 focuses on their inner moral to find morality. They focus on what makes a person good through the hyper fixation of their choices, believes and lifestyles. In my personal opinion they tend to be the most obsessed with the idea of perfection. Often having a black and White view of what is morality and what makes a person good. They can Resemble an E6 (anxious about the world and scared to be perceived as impure) and IMO they can also resemble an E4 due to their self obsession and focus on the self.

Unlike the other ones they are much open to express distaste and anger. They might often struggle due their perfectionistic standard to truly fuse with another. They can resemble type 8s due to their openness with anger.

What's up? Sorry in advance since this is gonna be kinda long. If it isn't too much trouble, could I please get a Trigun Stampede matchup? multiple characters are okay, if you think it's fitting or necessary.

Not sure if appearance matters but- 5'3, chubby and kinda muscular, lots of scars on arms, chest, and legs. Fashion consists of graphic tees (with puns, memes, and trippy art) and jeans or shorts. I'll wear lots of different kinds of jewelry, and don't really have a set aesthetic.

Hobbies/likes- going to the gym, roller skating, playing video games, driving, listening to music (and singing along.. Badly), smoking weed, watching TV shows and movies, hanging out with friends, drawing, Writing, reading, going to museums/amusement parks, taking care of/watching animals

Positive traits: my friends have told me that I'm smart, funny/goofy, sarcastic, polite, thoughtful, strong, patient, trusting/trustworthy, empathetic and compassionate. My friends generally come to me for advice and I've been told I'm a good listener. 1) Darian Burns Giles is 22 years old and has been a vampire for 8 months. He is polite, curious, and loyal. He was born with albinism and that has gotten exacerbated since his turning, giving him a more extreme appearance than other vampires. His hair is white, his skin is pale, and his eyes are red all the time instead of fading to brown/black when he's not using his vampiric abilities, and a strong build. (Yeah, yeah we all know what I was doing here lol)

Jude Hill 26, is a human born into a family of hunters. He broke from them when he was a young teen after his dad and grandfather had him do something he couldn't stomach that young, reporting them to his teachers at school. They were arrested and he was put into a foster home and went through years of cult deconditioning therapy. He is steadfast, blunt, and determined. He is slim with tan skin, black hair, brown eyes, and a lot of tattoos that hide protection runes in them.

2) The WIP starts in a vampire club (or nest) called Pulse. Nests are places that offer vampires a chance to do business with each other during dusk hours, and then act as nightclubs/entertainment at night. They meet during dusk hours as Darian is looking to contract a familiar for a few months so he has someone to feed on consistently while adjusting to his new lifestyle, and Jude is hoping to pick up a contract to secure a significant chunk of change and hopefully build a good enough reputation that Pulse will offer him a 10-year contract to get the sign-on bonus with them too.

3) I want to talk about so many things and explore lot of stuff in the setting, but this is supposed to be a self-contained romance. I have to keep reminding myself that elements of the worldbuilding can come into focus over time, it doesn't all have to be front and center on page one.

4) I didn't, but I took quizzes for them before answering this ask! Darian is INFP-A the Mediator, and Jude is ISTJ-T the Logistician!
