For the next couple of days, you barely had any time for yourself. It wasn’t as if you were naive enough to believe planning a wedding would be relaxing, but this?
This was something else.
“Can I just let you handle the whole thing?” you asked your wedding planner on the phone, leaning back on your seat while you kept your eyes on the people in the café and she let out a laugh.
“I mean don’t get me wrong, I appreciate your trust in me,” she said. “But you still need to choose among the things I send you, otherwise it’ll be like it's my wedding.”
“I don’t know, you strike me as a person who has good taste,” you said. “I might not be completely opposed to that idea.”
“Thanks but I already planned and had my wedding.”
“Right!” you said, snapping your fingers. “You said you were married to a professor, right?”
“Mm hm.”
“Was there like an open floor for discussions on your wedding?”
“Nah, more like an open bar,” she said. “And don’t try to distract me, my assistant sent you like one hundred emails.”
“I know, I know…” you muttered. “At least I decided on the place.”
“Yeah one down, ninety-nine to go,” she said. “Barnes weekend residence. We’re going there tomorrow right?”
“Yeah at 2 o’clock, it’s already on my calendar.”
“Great,” she said. “Answer my emails by then, please?”
“I will, talk to you later!” you said as you saw Ethan walk into the café and you waved at him after hanging up.
“Hey!” he said, coming to hug you when you stood up from your seat. “It’s been a while!”
“Hey yourself,” you said and pulled back from the hug to smile at him, then sat down when he did. “Yeah, sorry about that. I’ve been busy.”
“So I figured,” he said after ordering a coffee to the waiter who approached your table to take his order and you sat up straighter.
“How about you?” you said. “How is everything at the company?”
“Also pretty chaotic,” he said with a small smile. “I’ve been working overtime, a lot.”
“Is everything alright?”
“Yeah!” he said. “Yeah it’s just…it’s a really big company that wants things done in a certain way.”
“Do you want me to send someone around so that they can talk to your boss?”
His eyes widened.
“I—you—” he stammered. “I’m— I’m honored but I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Why not?” you asked, tilting your head. “If they’re giving you a hard time, it’s only fair if they have a hard time as well.”
He stared at you as the waiter put the cup of coffee in front of him, and then he cleared his throat.
“I’ll never get used to your lifestyle I think.”
“That’s a good thing,” you said with a small smile. “Please don’t.”
“So how about you?” he asked. “What have you been up to?”
You blinked a couple of times, nervousness churning your stomach before you took a sip of your coffee.
“That’s actually why I asked you here,” you muttered. “And I—I know it’s going to sound a bit rushed, but um…”
He pulled his brows together, his whole attention on you.
“What is it?” he asked and you swallowed thickly, then tried to smile.
“I’m getting married.”
He gawked at you for a couple of seconds in complete silence as if he wasn’t sure if he had heard you right while you just sat there, nibbling on your lip.
“You…you what?” he asked when he could pull himself together and you shrugged your shoulders.
“Getting married,” you said. “In a month, actually.”
“I wasn’t aware you were in a relationship—”
“I wasn’t,” you cut him off and a look of realization dawned on his face, making him pull back slightly.
“This is what we talked about all those years ago, isn’t it?” he asked. “Back at college. I asked you numerous times and you said no but in your world—”
“Don’t,” you interrupted him again. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You can say no,” he insisted and you sipped your coffee, reminding yourself to not let anything show on your face.
“What makes you think I want to say no?”
“You want to get married?” he asked with a dry laugh. “And to whom, if you don’t mind me ask?”
“Bucky Barnes.”
Ethan blinked a couple of times.
“…Bucky Barnes as in the guy you hate?”
“Things change,” you said calmly and he scoffed.
“Do they?” he asked. “So it’s a love marriage? Nothing to do with your family business?”
“To repeat, you have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Your world—”
“Ethan, I don’t mean to be rude,” you said through your teeth. “But if you genuinely believe that you know anything about my world, you’re fooling yourself.”
He pressed his lips together, then took a deep breath and pushed his chair back, your bodyguards sitting up straighter as if on cue but you held up a hand, gesturing at them to sit still. Ethan looked between you and the bodyguards, then let out a somber chuckle and put some cash on the table.
“For the coffee,” he said and you rolled your eyes at him.
“Ethan…”
“If they’re forcing you to do this—”
“Nobody is forcing me,” you told him, looking him in the eye and he nodded his head slowly.
“Then I guess congratulations on the wedding,” he said with a sad smile. “I’m not going to pretend I know anything about your world Y/N, I’m just…I’m just wondering what happened to the girl who told me she’d only marry for love, that’s all.”
With that, he walked out of the café and you gritted your teeth, then pressed your palms on your eyes, slouching in your chair.
“I killed her I guess,” you muttered to yourself and lowered your hands. “Occupational hazard and all.”
                                                 *
As you knocked on the door to Becca’s apartment, you could swear your head was about to explode from the headache pounding in your temples. You heaved a sigh and rubbed at your eyes, then heard the footsteps before the door opened.
“Oh hi Y/N!” Leila said. “It's great to see you, I didn’t know you were coming!”
“Sorry to bother you,” you said, offering her a smile. “Is this a bad time?”
“Not at all, come in!”
“Is Becca here?”
“Yeah!” she said as she stepped aside so that you could go in. “We were just watching—um, are you okay?”
“Not exactly,” you grumbled and made your way to the living room to see Becca sitting on the couch with the remote in her hand.
“Hey, I didn’t know—” she started but stopped talking when you flung yourself on the other couch across from hers, letting out a groan. You could hear Leila entering the living room as well and you raised your head from the pillow with a sigh.
“Do either of you have a painkiller?”
“Oh yeah, let me get it for you,” Leila said and rushed to the kitchen while you pulled yourself up into a sitting position, then hugged a pillow over your stomach.
“What’s going on?” Becca asked and you huffed out.
“Terrible day. Do you want to go out for drinks?”
“I’d love to but I have plans,” she said apologetically. “I’ll go out in like an hour.”
“What plans?”
“Uh…therapy,” she answered as Leila came back to the living room holding a glass of water and a pill.
“Thank you so much,” you said as you took them from her and she smiled at you, then went to sit beside Becca after you swallowed the pill and put the glass on the small coffee table.
“So?” Becca said. “What happened? Is it Bucky?”
“For once, nope.”
“Congratulations on the engagement by the way!” Leila said. “To be honest, I could kind of tell something was there even when you two kept arguing that night.”
You raised your brows and stole a look at Becca who shrugged her shoulders subtly. It wasn’t that you thought she would say anything to anyone about the real reason why you and Bucky were getting married, but she had fallen so head over heels in love with Leila that it took you by surprise that she hadn’t told her either.
But on a second thought, you knew you shouldn’t have been surprised. Not only would you trust Becca with your life, but Becca was also raised with the same rules as you and Bucky were, and secrets were almost sacred in your world.
“Thanks,” you said with a small smile. “It’s a bit rushed but when you know you know.”
“That’s so true,” Leila said, holding Becca’s hand and a cute blush spread over Becca’s cheeks, making you smile despite the headache.
“So it’s not Bucky then?” Becca asked and you massaged your temples.
“Ethan.”
“Oh I liked Ethan—” Leila started, but stopped when she saw the look on your face. “Or you know, I could also hate him if we hate him now, I don’t mind.”
“No no,” you said. He’s sweet but um…I told him the news about the wedding and he understandably did not like it.”
“You two weren’t together though?”
“Eh, there was still something,” Becca said. “He likes you, a lot.”
“He thinks I’m being forced into this,” you said and Becca shot you a smile.
“As if anyone could force you into marrying my brother.”
“I mean it’s not the nineteenth century,” Leila pointed out and Becca let out a laugh.
“So, how heartbroken was he?”
“I wouldn’t say he was heartbroken,” you muttered. “Just angry I guess. And I get it, I haven’t been completely honest with him—” You were cut off when your phone started vibrating and you took a look at the screen, then pushed yourself off the couch.
“I’ll be right back,” you said and walked to Becca’s bedroom, then took the phone to your ear.
“Yeah?”
“Hey beautiful,” Bucky’s voice reached you and you sat down on Becca’s bed, fully aware that you were pouting your lips.
“Hey.”
“How’s your day going?”
“Meh,” you said with a shrug of your shoulders. “What is it?”
“I just called to let you know we have a dinner reservation tonight,” he said. “I’ll pick you up from the hotel around 8?”
You made a face. “Why?”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t like your presence any more than you like mine,” you stated. “And it’ll be harder for me to ignore you in a restaurant if it’s just the two of us having dinner.”
“I mean, you do realize you don’t have to ignore me—”
“I know I don’t have to, it’s more of a hobby,” you said. “So? Why are you taking me out to dinner?”
“Because if we want people to believe it’s a love marriage rather than what it actually is, we need to be seen outside as a couple,” he said and you heaved a sigh, then ran a hand over your face.
“Right.”
“So then—”
“Yeah you can pick me up at 8,” you said and he paused for a second.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked. “You sound a bit…”
“Yeah I’m fine,” you said in a rush. “It’s just you know, this whole marriage thing—I’m fine. I’m great.”
“Very convincing,” he deadpanned and you scoffed a laugh.
“Just pick a nice restaurant, will you?” you asked and hung up before he could retort, then huffed out and got up from the bed to walk back to the living room to see Leila walking to the kitchen.
“So Becca has stuff to do but I figured we could drink and watch trash TV if you’d like?” she asked as soon as she saw you. “I can make mimosas.”
You blinked a couple of times and nodded fervently.
“That’d be great!” you said and she gave you a happy smile, then entered the kitchen. You smiled to yourself, then flung yourself next to Becca.
“I’ve changed my mind,” you said and Becca tilted her head.
“About what?”
“About what I said earlier,” you said. “You totally should propose and marry her, she’s amazing.”
                                           *
Even you had to admit, the restaurants in Bucky’s territory were better than the ones in your father’s territory.
It was rather annoying but considering your house with him would of course be in his territory, at least you already knew you would get good food whenever you two went out for dinner. Bucky’s palm was warm on the small of your back and if it were any other time you would have slipped out of his grasp but you let him guide you to the restaurant.
“Mr. Barnes, it’s an honor,” A man greeted you two by the entrance. “Your table is ready, please follow me.”
You looked around the luxurious interior as you and Bucky made your way to your table, and a waiter pulled your chair for you to sit down. You took a quick look at the menu before ordering and Bucky just asked for his usual, and you watched the waiter walk away with the man.
“I don’t think I’ve been here before,” you told Bucky. “When did it open?”
“Around a year ago,” he said. “I like it here, it’s…private, mostly.”
You hummed while the waiter filled your glass with wine and you took a sip, enjoying the nice taste.
“So my dad called while I was getting ready,” you said. “Apparently he will talk to Stark sometime this week.”
“I have a pretty good guess about how that will go,” Bucky muttered and you bit inside your cheek.
“You think Stark will make things difficult?”
“I mean he’s not going to like it because two families uniting means a tremendous power in the city,” Bucky stated. “Let’s see how he reacts and plan accordingly.”
“Might have to sweettalk him,” you said. “Gift him a shipment or two. And Romanoff?”
“I’m meeting her tomorrow,” he said. “Steve will be there too, they’re old friends. Any stupid comments from Ian lately?”
“Nope. By the way I was going to ask you but I forgot—that night, when you and Ian were talking,” you said. “What did he tell you?”
Bucky scoffed before taking a sip of his wine.
“He was saying that you wanted to be an active player in the business,” he said with a small smile. “Just in case I didn’t know.”
You rolled your eyes. “Idiot.”
“But I don’t think he suspects anything.”
“No, he thinks the same as my dad,” you said with a dry laugh. “I get married and pop out a few babies and become a fucking Stepford Wife.”
Bucky shot you a grin, then his head shot up.
“Oh I almost forgot,” he said and took out a small velvet box out of his pocket, then put it on the table. You arched a brow.
“Is that the ring?”
“Yeah.”
“Nah you can take it back,” you said after sipping your wine. “I’ll go and check some jewelers tomorrow and get something pretty, they can send you the bill.”
He pulled his brows together. “You didn’t even look at it.”
“I don’t need to, I’ve seen the women you dated,” you pointed out. “Something tells me they didn’t educate you well about jewelry so there’s no need for—”
You stopped talking when he reached out to open the small box for you and your eyes fell upon the ring, the rest of your sentence getting stuck in your throat. The pear-shaped diamond on the delicate rose gold band was so pretty that for a couple of seconds you could only stare at it while it glimmered under the dim light of the restaurant, almost hypnotizing you before you remembered to pull yourself together.
It was definitely to your taste, as if…
“Becca helped you,” you managed to say as you reached out to take it into your hand and he nodded.
“Mm hm. Today.”
“Well played.”
Bucky gave you a proud smile, his piercing blue gaze almost too hot on your skin and you slipped the ring onto your finger, then held up your hand so that you could look at it better.
“It’s pretty,” you said. “I’m keeping it in the divorce by the way.”
He clutched as his chest. “Don’t be so romantic Charm, I’m going to get emotional.”
That made a laugh spill from your lips while the waiter brought your food, and you thanked him while Bucky leaned forward on his elbows as if he wasn’t even aware of anything else but you.
“Can I ask you something?”
“No.”
“How did you use to imagine it?”
You looked at him. “Imagine what?”
“Your engagement period, your wedding, you name it,” he said and you hummed, then leaned back.
“Why do you want to know?”
“Maybe we can make the wedding the way you pictured it,” he said and you scoffed a laugh.
“I doubt it,” you said. “When I pictured my wedding, I always pictured myself in love. There was this fairytale wedding, gorgeous wedding gown, we’d go to Paris for the honeymoon and he’d be reciting poetry about how much he was in love with me in bed.”
Bucky blinked a couple of times and cleared his throat.
“I’m not good with poetry.”
“Never thought you were,” you said. “Eh, maybe my second marriage will go the way I pictured it.”
That caused a shadow to cross his eyes but he recovered fast, sipping his drink.
“How about you?” you asked. “How did you use to imagine your second marriage?”
He tilted his head. “What happened to my first marriage?”
“I’m glad you asked,” you said, pointing at him with your fork. “Funny story. You knocked her up and you guys decided to keep it because you got emotional and it would be your first heir, so you two ended up getting married in a rush and named that baby your actual heir.”
An amused smile curled his lips. “Interesting. Go on.”
“But after the baby, that marriage turned into one full of resentment and then you decided it was a good idea to fuck your secretary.”
“So I live in a porn scenario?” he asked and you nodded.
“Pretty much. Then your wife left you, took away all your things—”
“I don’t have a prenup?”
You shook your head. “Nope.”
“Impossible.”
“You don’t exactly have a prenup with me.”
He winked at you. “Maybe I trust you.”
“That’s a terrible idea,” you retorted, making him chuckle. “But yeah, your first wife divorced you. Sorry you had to find out this way.”
“It was good while it lasted, I’m sure.”
“Wouldn’t be so sure, she hates you,” you said airily. “Rightfully, that is. Then you meet your second wife who definitely deserves better than you, but by some miracle she stays with you.”
“Thanks a lot, she sounds amazing.”
“Right?” you said. “There you go. Your two marriages.”
“Very creative,” he pointed out. “Do I recite poetry to her in this scenario?”
“Yes but you also have performance problems so romance makes up for it, in a way,” you stated and he smirked.
“You seem to put a lot of thought into my performance, pillow princess.”
Your jaw dropped as you gasped. “Wh—how dare—you don’t even—”
“Please,” he said. “You dream of a guy reciting poetry to you on your honeymoon.”
You could feel your cheeks burning as you glared daggers at him.
“Shut up,” you grumbled, making him smirk.
“That being said, you have nothing to worry about my performance.”
You rolled your eyes at him while you chewed on your bite, then swallowed it.
“See Bucky, this is exactly why when I divorce you, I’m keeping the ring and the weekend house,” you pointed at him with your fork, coaxing a chuckle out of him. “You’re too arrogant for your own good.”

an adorable bad boy | loveable!rogue!harry
Tumblr media
This is part 1 of a Patreon series (all 10 parts have been posted on Patreon already). If you'd like more check out my Patreon! xoxo
A loveable rogue is someone who breaks the law for personal profit while being nice and charming, likely with a sad or dark past.
AU Premise: Harry has been in and out of jail for nearly a decade due to a string of bad luck and bad choices. But he's not a bad guy. Not really.
Summary: Harry's trying to keep on the straight and narrow now that he's out of jail but things have never come easy for him. And then he meets the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. Maybe things won't be so bad after all. If only she'd give him her number.
Word Count: 3.8k
Warning: Mentions of drugs and the sale of drugs, mentions of jail time
❊❊❊
Harry’s life sucked. Every time he tried to get on the right track, his past would come back to haunt him. He took responsibility for the things he did and he knew he deserved to have the book thrown at him. But he also knew where he came from didn’t make things easier for him. Starting at a young age he had to act like an adult and do things most people would never imagine needing to do just to get by.
Now, nearing 30, he was determined to get his shit together. If he had to step foot in another jail cell again he was going to just end it. He couldn’t handle another sentence that had him losing a job, his car, the place he was staying… Every time he got into trouble it was like he had to start over again. From scratch.
And he was always well-behaved once behind bars so he usually got out early on good behavior. But keeping out of trouble as a free man was nearly impossible. He’d be tossed out on the street once he was released but with no place to go and not a dime to his name, times were hard. He had to hustle for a dollar. And when he meant hustle, it usually involved something illegal.
Getting a job that paid well was a joke. No one wanted a convicted felon. No one would hire a man who had a criminal record. Why risk it? He sure as hell wouldn’t if he were in their shoes.
There was no program to help him reintegrate. No help for a safe spot to sleep. Shelters wouldn’t even allow him a safe haven due to his past. He had nothing. Incarceration meant drudging through, keeping his head down, and following directions. That was easy. But there was nothing easy about rebuilding his life over and over again once he was out from behind bars.
His sister wouldn’t answer his calls anymore. He’d drained that well dry. His mother had cut him off too. His cousin was a last resort, but that’s sort of how his life was these days. Everything was a last resort.
“Harry! My dude! You get out?”
He was leaning against a tall residential building in an alley with a cigarette in hand. The phone he was using was the one that he had when he got locked up, kept for him upon his release. The officer helping him fill out his release forms allowed him to charge his phone before they pushed him out the doors. How kind.
The wifi signal from the bookstore gave him access to his apps so he could make the phone call he was dreading.
“Yep. Glad to be out of there. How are you doing?” He figured he’d make some small talk before getting to the point. He didn’t want to be rude, after all.
Saul gave him the rundown of what had been going on with everyone. And then Harry learned he was engaged.
“Wow. Congrats, cousin. Proud of you. You guys living together?”
“Nah. Not until after the wedding. She’s a really good girl. Super sweet. Her whole family is. Just like, the nicest people I’ve ever met. But she doesn’t want to move in until we’re married since that looks bad to her parents,” Saul laughed. “They’re super conservative about stuff like that. They think she’s still a virgin.”
Harry humored him with a chortle through the phone and then sighed. The sun was going down. Small talk needed to come to a halt. He had to get this part over with.
“So, uh… hate to ask this but um, could you let me crash at your place for a few nights? I’ve got nowhere to go since I just got out and gonna be cold tonight. Otherwise, I’d just sleep in the park or something.”
Silence for a few uncomfortable seconds.
“Did you ask your sister? I mean I’m sure–“
“She hates me right now. Won’t take my calls. But man, look, it’s okay if you can’t. I get it.”
“You know what? Sure. You can stay here for a bit. I know shit’s hard. How you gettin’ here?”
Harry let out the breath he’d been holding in and leaned his head back into the building in relief, “Gonna walk. Literally have nothing to my name. Just my old cell phone, half charged, and this free wifi I’m using to call you. I can get there in like an hour.”
Saul told him he’d pick him up but Harry didn’t want to trouble him anymore than he had. It was already embarrassing asking for help. Plus a walk through the city would feel good. It’d been a while since he’d seen the hustle and bustle of daily life in the city.
It was late September. He was wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt with boots. At least he had a beanie on his head. His cousin lived in one of those “up-and-coming” neighborhoods. Gritty but recently gentrified. His flat was two floors up. A flimsy plastic call button for the residents hung outside the reinforced glass door that opened up to a small lobby with mailboxes in the wall to the left and just beyond that, old wooden stairs that led up to each apartment.
Saul was on floor three. Harry took the stairs two at a time and the door was already open with his smiling cousin waiting for him and then a warm embrace that made Harry feel like maybe he was going to be okay. Silly as it sounded. He hadn’t been hugged in over a year. Hadn’t felt safe and relaxed in over a year.
“Ordered some pizza from this fire spot. Should be here soon. Beer?”
Harry could cry. He hadn’t had pizza or beer in over a year either. There was a lot he hadn’t had in over a year.
“Uh, yeah. Thank you, man.”
Harry followed Saul into his tiny galley kitchen and leaned against the frame of the door as he watched his cousin pull a beer from the fridge, “And thank you for everything. For this. I really mean it. I’ll pay you back as soon as I get a job.”
Handing Harry his beer Saul laughed, “We’ll see. Alyssa and I might need help for the wedding next summer. Her dad wants to have the wedding at their place. They’ve got this nice house with a massive garden in the back. But they need people to help landscape and do some manual labor to get it ready. Might save us a little money if you could help. But that’s a ways off,” he waved his hand as he walked past Harry into the living room. “Don’t worry about it right now. I’ll figure out a way you can pay me back.”
. . .
A few nights turned into a few weeks. And Harry did find a job, but he’d need to save up for a while longer to be able to afford a place on his own. He figured, at least he could pay Saul for food and help pay some of the bills in the meantime.
Fortunately, the job he found paid pretty well. Unfortunately, it was illegal. It was what had gotten him thrown in jail in the first place.
Selling drugs. Mainly weed. Some shrooms, ecstasy, molly… party drugs.
He applied to 28 places. Twenty. Eight. Dishwasher, food prep, janitor, midnight stocker, busboy, fast food line cook… everything he could find from places that might take a chance on someone with a record. After a week of having Harry sleeping on his couch, Saul appeared to be getting frustrated. So, Harry did what he always did when he needed money (and who doesn’t need money?). He called Memo.
Memo always had a spot for Harry. And because he trusted Harry he gave him an advance.
The first thing Harry did with his money was buy some clothes for himself and groceries for the house. Getting rid of his supply was easy. He still had all his old contacts to sell to and with Harry’s natural charm, he was introduced to even more people who wanted some killer weed and Harry was their man.
Saul seemed to lighten up a bit when Harry began paying him cash for his part of the bills and to help cover some of the rent.
Being a drug dealer bought him time. Eventually, he’d find a better gig. He knew there were places that would hire felons, he just had to be patient. But in the meantime, doing shady shit to get by was necessary.
“So, I’m going out tonight. With Alyssa and a few others. Just going to Ray’s. You can join us if you want.”
Harry was sitting on the couch readying himself for another night in but maybe going out with his cousin for a few beers could be fun, “Anyone I know going?”
Saul shook his head, “Doubt it. It’ll be Alyssa, her little sister, and a few of our mutual friends.”
Harry figured it was better if the people that were going to be there didn’t know him. And besides, what better way to spend a Friday night as a single man? Sitting at Saul’s house was fine, but going out and meeting new people with a few beers in hand sounded a hell of a lot better.
Harry nodded, “Why not?”
. . .
Roy’s might have been an old hole in the wall, but it was a popular old hole in the wall. Harry could hear the music before they walked into the black brick building with the lighted, vintage metal sign that hung above the door.
The smell of stale cigarettes and beer hung in the dark space, a shiny lacquered bar that ran half the length of the room, high-top tables, two pool tables, and a few booths.
Alyssa nearly pummeled Saul, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and kissing him on the cheek as she squealed.
“We’re just over here! Tony got us a big booth 'cause he got here early.” She pulled Saul along with her. Harry followed.
The group that came into view were two young men and two young women. He barely had a chance to take it all in before Alyssa pulled his arm, “Everyone! This is Harry, Saul’s cousin. The one we were telling you about.”
The one we were telling you about. Harry knew what that meant.
Harry smiled and nodded as he slid into the booth. It was long and easily accommodated all seven of them.
“I’m Kelin,” the man he sat next to held his hand out to Harry to shake. The one next to Kelin greeted Harry, “I’m Tony,” he turned and looked at the girl next to him, “And this is my girlfriend, Dasha.” Dasha smiled and waved at Harry.
Then as Alyssa moved into the opposite side of the booth with Saul at the end she hugged the girl next to Dasha, “And this is my little sister, Y/n.”
Some moments in time are unexplainable. Like moments when things feel like fate but you don’t believe in that sort of thing. Or like when someone is speaking a language you don’t know but you swear you understood everything they just said. Sometimes it was more like a riddle you couldn’t figure out all day only to wake up in the middle of the night from a dream with the answer.
The moment Y/n set her pretty gaze upon Harry was like that for him. Something inexplicable. Something enchanting. Almost mythical.
“It’s nice to meet you all,” Harry spoke as he tried to tear his eyes from the angel called Y/n. He forced his pupils away to look at everyone else but his heart was already beginning to thump violently in his chest.
Drinks were ordered and conversation resumed to wherever it was left off before Saul and Harry’s arrival.
“So, we were discussing anything but the wedding!” Dasha laughed as Alyssa moaned exaggeratedly.
“I was only letting you guys know the theme!” Alyssa laughed.
“Girl, tonight is a night off. And the wedding isn’t for like another 8 months!”
Harry tried to focus on the conversation as he sipped his beer but he couldn’t help allowing his eyes the indulgence of Y/n’s pretty face. She had some kind of clear drink. A vodka soda maybe. And when Kelin started talking about the Halloween party he was throwing Y/n’s eyes met Harry’s again and he thought he was going to fall limp to the floor in a puddle at her feet.
He didn’t even know what her voice sounded like and he was already imagining waking up next to her in the morning and getting to see her disheveled hair and warm pajamas and soft, tired eyes. He had never had such a visceral reaction to anyone before. Ever.
Another round of drinks made its way to the table and Harry hardly spoke a word. Y/n only laughed a few times at what was being said but otherwise, she remained quiet as she sipped her drink.
He needed to talk to her. He needed to learn all about her. He wasn’t sure why it felt so important, so vital to him. But every time she looked at him his throat went dry and he searched her face for any sign that she might be feeling the same odd connection that he was feeling.
“I need a cigarette,” Y/n spoke as she looked at Alyssa, making Saul and Alyssa scoot out of the booth to let her out.
Harry tapped his fingers on the table as he watched her walk past before speaking up, “Yeah, me too.” He hopped up from the booth and jogged to catch up with his dream girl before she could push the door open.
“Allow me,” he grabbed the handle and opened the door for her.
“What a gentleman. Thank you,” she grinned teasingly at him and Harry felt his head swirl and his knees go weak. She smiled at him and he was sure he was in love at that moment.
“I try,” he chuckled as he followed her to the edge of the building before she pulled out her pack of cigarettes. Harry liked the same brand.
He pulled out his lighter and held it out as she put the filter between her lips. The flame lit the tip and then Harry put his own cigarette into his mouth and lit it.
“You have good taste,” Y/n gestured with her cigarette toward his and watched his mouth as he inhaled the smoke into his lungs.
“Guess we both do,” he blew the smoke out and it mixed with the smoke she blew out at the same time.
“Heard you recently got out of jail. Alyssa told me to keep my distance,” she laughed as she took another puff, her eyes on his.
“Yeah. Trying to keep on the straight and narrow now. Jail sucks,” he let his gaze wander over her lips and jawline and down to her neck, “I’m not that bad, though. You gonna get in trouble with your big sister for having a smoke with me?”
She snorted (which Harry found adorable and irresistible) and shook her head, “I’m an adult. She tries to act protective and tough but she knows better than to tell me what I can and can’t do. In fact,” she took a drag and lowered her gaze to Harry’s outfit and then back up to his eyes before exhaling, “When she tells me not to do something it just makes me want to do it more.”
Harry felt his face grow warm as he listened to her speak and couldn’t help the smile that took over his face, dimples winking awake in his cheeks.
“Oh shit,” she leaned into the brick and crossed an arm over her middle, one arm angled out with the cigarette propped between her two fingers, “You’ve got dimples.”
Harry ashed his stick, keeping the smile on his face, “I guess I do. Is it okay?”
Y/n laughed softly, the prettiest sound Harry had ever heard, and nodded, “Of course it’s okay. It’s adorable.”
“Adorable…” Harry repeated as he leaned his shoulder into the brick and faced Y/n, “Think I’m adorable?” He pulled his lips into his mouth, tamping his wide smile as he blushed. Yeah, he was blushing.
She reached her hand up to his shoulder-length hair to tug at a curl, “You are. Pretty curls, green eyes, dimples. I get why Alyssa didn’t want me to get mixed up with you. An adorable bad boy. Dangerous combo.”
Harry shook his head and looked down at her feet before winding his pupils up her frame to her face, “Bad boy? Nah, not really. Just made some stupid decisions.”
Y/n shrugged and pulled at her cigarette before blowing out the hot smoke, “Mmm….” She pursed her lips and squinted at him, “You’re definitely a bad boy. You kind of emanate that persona. And I bet you use those dimples to charm all the ladies.”
Harry chuckled and looked down again to give his retinas a break from her breathtaking beauty. When he looked back at her he shook his head slowly, “If anything you’re the charmer. Making me blush over here.”
She giggled and leaned her head back as she looked up into the sky. Harry was not going to be getting over her laugh. He knew he’d be dreaming about it too.
“I’m just honest is all. Not particularly charming I don’t think.”
Harry shook his head and pointed at her, “No. You are definitely charming. Sweeping me right off my feet.”
“Oh, I am? Falling for me already, Harry?” She smirked at him and turned her body to face his, mimicking his stance.
Was it too soon for him to fall for her? Yes. But Harry was never one to play by usual timelines. He grinned and licked his lips, “Be bad if I said I was?”
She puffed out a laugh, “Probably would be bad. You don’t even know me. I’m really not all that great. Lots of issues. Very unstable,” she laughed as she gestured at her head and then wrapped her lips around the filter to inhale.
“If that’s the case, then you’re just that much cuter,” Harry parted his lips to place the cigarette between them as he kept his eyes on hers.
She bit her lip and turned to look out into the street, “You gonna go to the Halloween party next week?”
Harry shook his head, “Probably not. Wasn’t invited. Don’t like to dress up for shit like that anyway.”
“Hmm… If you go I’ll go,” she turned to look at him and raised her brows.
Harry stitched his brows together and tilted his head, “Are you serious?”
She nodded, “Sure. Why not. Wasn’t planning on going either but I will if you do.”
Harry narrowed his eyes at her and grinned, “Still wasn’t invited, though. We’ll see.”
Y/n tossed her butt down to the ground and stepped over the tip to crunch out the burning end, “Probably should get back in there. Alyssa’s gonna think we’ve run off together. That’d really get her going.”
Harry chuckled and followed suit with his own cigarette and nodded before following her back to the booth in the bar.
This time, as luck would have it, Harry scooted into his original spot and Y/n sat down next to him at the end.
“I wish you wouldn’t smoke,” Alyssa frowned at Y/n and Harry leaned forward to put his elbows on the table as he turned to look at Y/n’s profile. She was certainly stunning.
Y/n shook her head and looked at Dasha, “Will you pass my drink down?”
Harry looked down at his lukewarm beer and pushed himself into the seat, his back hitting the vinyl cushion behind him before turning his head to watch as Y/n drank from her glass.
Everyone at the table resumed their conversation but both Harry and Y/n were thinking about the way their thighs were pressed together and how warm it felt. How nice it was.
“You’re staring,” she whispered with a grin as she set her glass down on the table and turned slightly to see the limn of his outline in her peripheral.
He grinned as he leaned his shoulder into hers as he spoke quietly, “Can’t help it.”
Harry tried to be as subtle as possible with everyone around but his skin was tingling in delight any time she shifted to pick up her glass her thigh ran against the stretch of his jeans. He regretted that he couldn’t stare into her beautiful eyes but he loved her nearness. The smell of her perfume and her shampoo.
“So, Harry,” Tony spoke up, “What do you do for fun?”
Harry was caught off guard. He’d been far too focused on the girl next to him that he nearly forgot he might need to participate in a conversation.
He laughed and looked at Saul and then to Tony, “I like music a lot. Um… reading. I don’t know,” he shrugged.
“He used to be in a band. Plays guitar and sings. He can play almost any instrument actually,“ Saul chimed in.
Harry rolled his eyes when everyone began to ask questions. He didn’t enjoy talking about himself because then that wound up leading to discussing his time in jail. Thankfully no one brought it up, though he was sure everyone already knew anyway. Saul wasn’t exactly discreet.
When the bill was paid after everyone threw down some cash, Y/n slid out of the booth with Harry right behind her, “Can I have your number?” He spoke so only she could hear as he brushed his fingers against hers.
She stopped and turned toward him, a mischievous grin on her face, “I’ll give you my number if you come to the party next weekend.”
Everyone began to walk to the door and Y/n turned to leave but Harry wasn’t done. He felt his heart walloping in his chest as he hastened his steps after her, pulling at her hand as stealthily as possible, “I can’t just crash a party I wasn’t invited to.”
When they stepped outside Y/n moved to the side to let everyone walk past and she looked up at Harry, “If you don’t come then you don’t get my number. It’s up to you.”
Harry swallowed as he looked down at the pretty girl in amazement, “Fine. I’ll be there.”
She smiled sweetly and raised her hand to poke at his dimple, “I know you will.”

Fic: Grudgingly Yours (Part 4)
Fic: Grudgingly Yours (Part 4)
Summary: You are a general surgeon, working in a hospital that’s slowly sucking the life out of you when one day you’re given the offer of a lifetime.
A.K.A  - An arranged marriage fic :)
Pairing: Billy Russo x You
Rating: R
Masterlist (contains links to my other stories and this one)
Chapter 4
You bit down on your bottom lip, looking at the project plan for the next few weeks. Ideally you would have loved to open a hospital but that was beyond your current means. As a compromise, you made the decision to go with an urgent care clinic in your childhood neighbourhood. There was a lot of administrative red tape to get through before you could even begin working on your plans and that’s why you’d engaged two of your closest friends for help. Jacintha was a marketing executive for a healthcare company, and Ritu was a financial analyst, and they were the perfect people to guide you towards your goals. The three of you had accomplished what needed to be done today, and were taking a break now.
“Any more pizza left?” Ritu asked.
You peeked through the boxes. “Nah, we finished it all. I can order more?”
“No, I had too much already,” Ritu said, drinking her glass of wine.
Jacintha was scrolling through her phone, her feet up on the couch. “There’s no one here that’s even remotely interesting,” she grumbled. “Everyone’s either ugly or a fuckboy.”
You laughed. While Ritu was happily married, Jacintha was single and on the lookout for fun dates. Except her friend had very high expectations and there weren’t that many men that met her standards. “Maybe you should venture outside Manhattan,” you offered.
“I’d rather shoot myself than date a guy from Jersey.”
 “My thoughts exactly.”
Hearing Billy’s voice, you turned around to find him standing at the entrance to the room. Dressed casually in a maroon jumper, black jeans and signature leather jacket, he appeared amused as his eyes languidly took in your friends. When you’d seen him earlier today he was heading out with another woman – so why the fuck was he back and interrupting your night?
Irritation surged through you. You’d made up an excuse about Billy being busy when Jacintha had inquired about his whereabouts, but now he was here and that meant you had to put on a show for your friends. “Thought you were gonna be gone all night, honey.”
Both Ritu and Jacintha watched him curiously, with Jacintha taking the lead in approaching him. “Glad you made it home, Billy. Didn’t think we were going to meet you today but I’m glad you’re here.” She reached out to hug him, and you noted how Billy returned the hug with enthusiasm. “I’m Jacintha, Y/N’s would-be maid of honour –“
 Ritu scoffed.
“- if you hadn’t gone off and eloped with her,” Jacintha continued, sticking out her tongue at Ritu.
You rolled your eyes, watching as Ritu made her way towards Billy.
“Only way Jas would’ve been maid of honour is if I turned it down.” Ritu extended her hand out to Billy. “Hi, I’m Ritu. And we need the complete story behind this whirlwind romance. Y/N’s being way too tight-lipped about the details.”
His response was a gorgeous smile. “I don’t know what lies she told you, but eloping was her idea not mine.”
What the fuck? Spotting the wicked glint in his eyes, you knew he’d thrown you under the bus on purpose. Asshole!
“Come on, Billy. Don’t lie to my friends,” you teased, sauntering over to where he stood. “They’re gonna think I didn’t have a wedding on purpose.”
Jas frowned. “Did you elope just to get out of picking a maid of honour?”
You put on a fake smile. “Look what you did, sweetheart.”
His voice was nauseatingly sweet. “Just being honest, love.”
“So tell us about yourself, Billy,” Ritu prodded.
“Like you guys didn’t google me?” Billy fired back.
Jaz confronted him with a raised eyebrow. “We did. What we found wasn’t great. Definitely not the kind of guy who deserves Y/N.”
“Okay. That’s enough.” You walked over to Billy and grabbed his hand. “Can we talk alone?”
Dark eyes bore into your soul. “If you insist.”
You dragged him away, leaving your perplexed friends watching after you.
Once inside the spare office room, you closed the door behind. “Why are you here?”
Billy cocked his eyebrow, smirking as he strut toward the couch. Sitting down, he regarded you with amusement. “Last time I checked this is my place.”
“Wrong. It’s your grandfather’s and he gifted it to both of us. So you can shove that bullshit.” You glared at him with hostility. “We had a deal. You stay out of my way when I have people over.”
He shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t remember agreeing to that.”
Exasperated, you crossed your arms. “Do I harass your dates when you bring them home?”
“My dates don’t take over the entire place.”
“Upstairs is your area, downstairs is mine. That was your rule!”
 “That Jacintha’s cute.”
Irritation surged through you at the abrupt change in topic. “Don’t hit on my friends.”
He cocked his eyebrow. “Figures you’re the jealous type.”
“I’m not jealous, you moron. I just don’t want you creeping on them.”
“Tell me something. That whole scene during dinner, standing up for me, bitching out the old man, that was all an act, right?”
 “What are you talking about?”
He leaned forward. The smile from before was now replaced with a somber look, his dark steely gaze holding you hostage. “You planned it, didn’t you? Plotted with him so you’d look good to me?”
“What makes you think I care enough to do that?” You held his stare, challenging him back. “Whatever issues you have with your family, it’s none of my business. I only stood up for you because I fucking hate bullies. I already told you that. But if you don’t believe me, I don’t give a shit.”
His eyes remained on you, unwavering and hostile, staring at you intently. “Let me see your phone.”
 You scowled. “No.”
 “Why not?”
 “Why should I?”
“Because I want to prove something to myself.”
“How’s my phone gonna help with that?”
 “Let me worry about it.”
 “Go fuck yourself.”
He smiled. “Show me your phone and I’ll keep my distance from your friends. That work for you?”
“Fine.” Taking out your cell from your back pocket, you approached him. You unlocked the screen and handed it to him. “Here. Have your fill.”
You regarded him cautiously while he scrolled through to look for any incriminating conversations between you and Alistair. There would be none, just a whole bunch of missed calls from the old man since the night of the dinner party. And a vague text message where he threatened you.
“You’ve been ignoring his calls. Alistair won’t like that.”
 “He’ll get over it.”
“He’s dangerous when he’s crossed. And you pissed him off by standing up for me.”
“I can take care of myself,” you huffed, grabbing your phone back from him.
“You have to be so flippant about everything?” Billy asked.
The fake concern in his tone was infuriating, like he actually cared about you when it was the farthest thing from the truth. “Don’t pretend like you give a shit about me.”
He cocked his eyebrow. “Is that what you think? At least with you I know what I have to deal with. If he takes you down, I have to worry about what he has planned next. That’s the only reason I’m warning you.”
“Whatever.” You slipped your phone back into your pocket. “Now, please get the fuck out.”
 “Who’s Calvin?”
You froze. Of course the fucker noticed all the text messages from him. “None of your business.”
A cold smile curved Billy’s lips. “Boyfriend? He seems to be, texts you a lot.”
 “You jealous?”
“Keep dreaming, sweetheart.” He leaned forward and picked up a random magazine that was on the coffee table. His voice was casual, deliberately calm when he spoke next. “Just curious about how your boyfriend feels you marrying me for money. Calvin okay with the golddigger lifestyle?”
“He lets me make my own decisions.”
Billy’s voice reeked of sarcasm. “Sounds like a real man.”
 “He is.”
 Billy scoffed.
“Why are we even talking about this? I don’t butt into your business, do I?”
“Oh, you didn’t tell Gwen we were married?”
You rolled your eyes, remembering the blonde from a few weeks ago. “That was once. You’ve had other women here since then and I haven’t bothered them.”
His intense, lingering stare remained affixed on you, making you feel unexpectedly self-conscious. You were in jeans, an oversized t-shirt, and wearing no make-up. It was supposed to be a casual night in and you’d dressed accordingly, but you weren’t prepared for Billy to give you the kind of look that speared right through to your soul. His stillness made you nervous, making you feel like he was plotting your death or something. You preferred it when he espoused hateful rhetoric instead. “Anything else?” you prodded. “Or can I go back to my friends?”
 “Do whatever you want.”
Despite the insolence in his words, his voice was a husky, throaty drawl, smooth like whiskey, like he was trying to seduce.
Or maybe you were just being an idiot.
Without saying anything else, you turned around and walked out.
 ***
Upon returning to your friends, they surrounded you immediately.
 “What’s going on?” Jas asked.
“Nothing,” you replied, trying to maintain your calm exposure.
“You’re lying to us,” Ritu piped up.
You started stacking the empty pizza boxes. “What do you mean?”
“That’s not how newlyweds act!” Jas accused.
“Why? Just because I’m not all over him in front of you guys? That doesn’t prove anything!”
“None of this makes sense. You elope with a guy none of us even knew you were dating, supposedly because the two of you are so madly in love, but that’s not what we saw just now. You guys looked like you hate each other!”
You ran your fingers through your hair. Shit.
“Tell us what’s going on. Are you in trouble?” Ritu asked.
“Whatever it is, just tell us. We’ll help you.”
Guilt surged through you as you stared back at your best friends. They were genuinely concerned and worried about something happening to you, and there you were lying to them. You sighed, taking a seat.
Then you started telling the truth.
 ***
A week later you walked into the penthouse suite, your feet aching in the stilettos you were wearing. Jas and you had gone out to dinner so she could give you notes on the prenup. Even though you’d reassured her multiple times that your lawyer had vetted it thoroughly and negotiated the best terms for you, she wasn’t convinced and insisted one of her contacts, a prominent divorce attorney, review the details. The lawyer did have some feedback but ultimately agreed it was a good deal. Finally Jas was convinced you hadn’t lost your mind with this deal, and the two of you went clubbing after. You were used to staying up all night from working at the hospital, but the whole heels thing was new to you.
Sighing, you undid the straps and threw the shoes aside, groaning with relief when your feet hit the ground. As you started walking back to your room, you cut through the living room only to find Billy sound asleep. You stopped for a second, simply watching him. Not sure why he was even downstairs, but there he was on the couch, in a black razor tank and jeans, sleeping on his side. There were a couple of empty beer bottles on the coffee table. He was facing you, hair ruffled, eyes closed, one arm tucked under his head and the other splayed on his side. Watching him as he laid there, you had to admit he really was a beautiful man – as long as he kept his mouth shut. You usually liked them stocky and broad-shouldered, gym guys who you knew could lift you without much trouble, but Billy was lean and toned. Not that he wasn’t muscular, he definitely was, but you doubted he could pick you up. Or that he’d want to. You saw the women he slept with, you were definitely not his type. And you had no interest in being one of them.
You sauntered past him and headed for your room.
An hour later you were freshly showered and dressed in a silk robe, eating Greek yogurt in the kitchen to satisfy your late-night hunger cravings when you heard a crash coming from the living room. Worried, you quickly marched towards the noise. Upon entering the room, you found broken glass shards from the beer bottles atop the coffee table and Billy on his knees, one hand gripping the edge of the table while the other was clutching his chest.
His skin was flushed, slick with sweat, eyes stricken with panic. He looked like he couldn’t breathe, as if he was dying.
Immediately you switched to doctor mode. Rushing, you sat down next to him. “Are you hurt? Bleeding? What’s going on? Talk to me,” you ordered, keeping your voice normal and calm so as not to agitate him further. With an expert touch you examined his hands to make sure he didn’t cut himself - he didn’t - and swiped the beads of moisture from his forehead.
His breathing was ragged, he didn’t speak, a wild expression on his face matching the far away look in his eyes, like he was somewhere else at the moment.
You started rubbing his back, hoping the physical contact would tether him to reality. “Billy, you’re fine. You’re okay.” Repeating yourself over and over again, you soothed him, stroking his back, caressing the hair on the nape of his neck, your other hand covering his chest where his heart resided.
It took a while for his heart to return to normal speed. The entire time he was locked in your embrace, pressing into you, squeezing you tightly like his life depended on it.
After a short while, Billy finally spoke. “It’s hot. I’m hot.”
Voice husky, body warm to the touch, you realized he needed some air. “Do you want some water?” You attempted to move away but he grabbed your hand that was on his chest and held it in place.
“No. Just need to take this off.” In one quick gesture he pulled off his tank and threw it aside. You tried not to stare at the wounds on his chest, burn marks and lashings, like he’d been tortured. They were fully healed, a few years old from what you could tell, but the scars remained, forever haunting him. Your heart ached, realizing he must have gone through sheer hell to survive that.
Your fingers caressed his chest. “You should get some sleep.”
Billy finally met your gaze. The emotion in his eyes made your stomach clench with anxiety. There was no anger, no contempt, just raw, stark need for something you didn’t understand. His dark eyes were crystal clear, no cloudiness in them, like he was seeing you for the first time.
And then suddenly he stood and lifted you up, carrying you over to the couch behind you both. He sat back on the cushion, you straddling him, one arm encircling your waist while the other hand fisted the back of your hair.
Eyes locked on one another, breaths trembling, you swallowed audibly as you waited for him to say something, do anything. But he didn’t move, didn’t speak, only watching you.
Minutes passed, every second feeling like an eternity.
Your heart was pounding in your chest, so loud you worried he could hear it. Could he? Could he see how he was affecting you? That your nipples were hard and your pussy wet from grinding down on his jeans? That his heated skin pulsed through you like a vibrator and you felt every brush, every stroke, every touch of his fingers strumming you like a guitar?
You didn’t know why you did it, why your fingers curved around his throat, why the other played with his earlobe. You were teasing him, taunting him, daring him to make a move. To take you.
Electric jolts ran through your body when he unexpectedly moved in closer, the top of his head brushing against your mouth, his lips blowing soft air on your neck as he inhaled you in. “You smell so good.”
Wetness pooled between your legs, your body taut with tension. Your arms wrapped around his neck and shoulders, holding on tight. Did he know what he was doing to you? Was it a ploy? How could he sound so desperate and vulnerable and still be playing you?
You didn’t understand, because you couldn’t think. How were you supposed when his erection was nudging your thighs? There was no fucking escape from him, he’d ingrained himself in you completely. Wrapped around every inch of you, next to you, under you, all-consuming solid presence of his body overwhelming all of your senses.
“Will you stay with me?” he whispered, soft, gentle, making your heart pulse the way your body did. “Help me sleep?”
There was nothing else you could say. “Yes.”
You couldn’t turn him down, not the part that was trained to heal patients, nor the woman in you that was utterly exposed to someone who was begging for help.
And so when Billy cradled you in his arms and maneuvered you both to lay down on the couch, his hand squeezing yours as he pressed a warm kiss on your temple, you simply closed your eyes and let the warmth sweep over you.
A/N - Um, thoughts?

Soulmate au where everyone with a soulmate has a little marking on their wrist in the shape of something related to their soulmate. It isn’t usually romantic, like we’ve got Pac with a creeper on his wrist and Mike with a little Pac Man symbol.
And Roier? He has a cat, but he’s never really believed in soulmates. He’s always been a firm believer in Having Fun and not tying himself down to someone because of fate; if he wants to settle down with someone, it’ll be because he loves them, not because a magical tattoo is telling him to
He tries Spreen, gets stabbed for it. Decides that love isn’t worth anything, decides that his real soulmate is the torture chamber under his basement
And then a boat crashes on the island, and time seems to slow down as Roier accidentally meets the eyes of one of the poor Brazilians trapped in the boat’s office
Meet Cellbit, who’s managed to convince himself that he doesn’t deserve a soulmate after all the terrible things he’s done. He wears long sleeves and he wears gloves that cover his wrists, so almost nobody knows what his soulmate symbol is. But he knows. He knows it’s a spider, which is one of the few things that freak him out, so, like. Nah. He’s good
Unfortunately for the audience, our two idiots don’t realize shit for a very long time. Roier doesn’t wear a spider-man logo until after their engagement. He calls Cellbit ‘gatinho’, but he does so as a flirtatious counter to ‘guapito’. Both of them keep their symbols covered, and neither really care about the whole ‘soulmate’ thing at all because they’ve decided they love each other and that’s what matters
It takes until Festa Junina for someone to put the physical pieces together, and it’s actually Foolish. He knows how to keep a secret, though, so he stays quiet until the date. He gets Leo to spill wine all over Cellbit and Roier’s hands where they’re joined over the table, soaking their sleeves (and gloves) through
Roier immediately swears and swats playfully at his sister. He rolls up his sleeves, showing his symbol off for the first time as Cellbit begrudgingly pulls his gloves off to let them dry, showing his symbol for the first time. Who cares if they see each other’s symbols? They’re getting married no matter what at this point, probably, who cares about soulmates?
The world freezes. They look at each other’s symbols, and everything just sort of clicks into place
Roier laughs so hard he cries. Of course! Of course he managed to fall in love with his soulmate without even knowing it was him!
Cellbit, though, is quieter. He still doesn’t know how to feel about the whole Abueloier Thing, and he isn’t sure if Roier would even want to be soulmates with him
The answer, of course, is a resounding “Of course, pendejo! I forgave you before I even found out we’re soulmates, shut up. Let’s go back to the castle. Now.”
So they go back to the castle, and they talk, and they decide that them being soulmates doesn’t really even matter because they would’ve fallen in love with each other regardless of what the Goddesses of Love had planned. Maybe that’s because they’re soulmates, or maybe it’s because they’re so in love that they don’t need to be. It’s a bit of a paradox, but so is everything else on the island. They’re in love, and that’s all that matters.
(They don’t tell the rest of the island, though. They wanna see how long it takes everyone to figure it out.)
(Joke’s on them, everybody already had a pretty good idea after one week of them hanging out together.)

AITA for not wanting to go to my dad’s wedding?
I (24nb) have a somewhat-strained relationship with my father. He was always the parent that would rather hang out with his friends than attend any of my/my siblings events. I was honestly glad when my parents got divorced. He’s not abusive, maybe just a little neglectful. To this day, I haven’t told him I’m nb/pan because he would either not believe me or say something hurtful.
He and his fiancé (51f) got engaged last year. She’s nice enough, but she’s more conservative than him and talks a lot of shit so I don’t particularly like her. I’ve met some of her family and they’re even worse. Her daughter is rude and very stuck-up and her brothers both open carry and it makes me uncomfortable. They haven’t saved a date for the wedding yet but it should be soon since my grandma is 88, and would it really be so bad if I didn’t go? They’ve both been married before and they already live together so it doesn’t change much. And I really don’t want to interact with, god forbid, her older brother, an ex-cop who thinks he’s god’s gift to human kind. I REALLY don’t want to go… but also, it’s my dad. So WIBTA if I didn’t go?
What are these acronyms?

“Mhmm.” He returned the gesture as she sat across him. “I’m glad you could make it.”
“Shouldn’t I be the one saying that? Considering your busy schedule.”
He let out a chuckle.
“I’m surprised you even had time to invite me for lunch.” She continued.
“Well, we have a couple of extra days to roam around. And I would be lying if I say I didn’t plan to meet you here.” He said placing one hand on his nape. “But enough about me, how have you been?”
“I’m alright.” Her lips formed a line before continuing. “I got engaged, actually.”
“You’re getting married?” It didn’t come out as a question, much to his dismay.
“Yeah.” She answered briefly.
“Wow, I, uhm, congratulations!” He was at par with words.
“Thank you.” She smiled.
“I uh hope your fiancé’s not mad you were meeting your ex.” He tried to joke around.
“Nah, he’s cool. He knows you and your family’s very dear to me, way past us dating.”
“Well, that’s a relief. Guess you got yourself a good man.”
“Guess I did.”
“But he’s even luckier.”
“Yeah?”
“Any man would be the luckiest to have you by his side. I sure was back then.” He said with a sad smile.
“Well, I was lucky to have you by my side back then too.” She offered him a warm smile.
“Just not lucky enough for you to stay.” He said a bit bitterly.
“Chris—“
“Look, I’m not saying this to mess you up or anything, but I have to be honest why I asked to meet up. I wanted to know what happened…with us.”
“I thought you already knew.” She took a deep breath, trying to sum up the reason why their three year relationship ended almost two years ago.
“We both couldn’t let go of the things we wanted for ourselves. We came to a point where we can’t compromise anymore and so,“
“You left.” He finished for her.
“I left.” She nodded.
“And you didn’t come after me.”
His head shot up to look straight at her.
“I, I didn’t know you wanted me to…”
She shrugged.
“It was you who wanted to break up.” He didn’t mean to make it sound as if he’s blaming her.
“That’s right.” She nodded.
“But hey, it turned out to be for the better, didn’t it? Mr. Producer of the year.” She tried to make light of the conversation by grinning.
“Stray Kids is getting bigger and bigger, and I get to be the homemaker I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a win-win!” She exclaimed, a tinge of bittersweetness in her eyes albeit her high pitched voice.
But was it? Was it a win-win?
Because surely, Chan felt anything but a winner.
He felt quite the opposite actually—like he’s the most defeated man, even more so now that he has completely lost his chance to get her back.
But everything she had said was right. They both wanted two different things. And no matter how they tried, and they did try, they’re inevitably bound to choose what they want or each other. And they chose the former.
So with a breath, he gave her his most genuine smile. And she knew it was so.
“I’m happy for you. Truly.” He said before pulling away from their parting embrace.
“Thank you, Chris. And I’m proud of you, too. You’re doing well. Take it easy, yeah?” She patted his arm.
“Mmm, you too. Don’t go crazy on your wedding planner, okay?”
“Yah!” She laughed and faked scolded him for hinting her perfectionist persona.
“Send me an invite?” He said when they both calmed down.
“You’re not going to try and stop it, are you?” She raised a brow.
“Tempting—aw!”
She jokingly punched his arm.
“I’m kidding! But not about sending me an invite.”
“Fine, sure.”
“Take care, yeah?” He began walking backwards, still looking at her.
“You too.”
“Don’t trip—“
“Goodbye, Chris!” She cuts him off again and rolls her eyes.
“Just making sure.” He grinned before giving one final wave.
“Goodbye.”
And they parted ways after that. x thoughts? likes and reblogs are appreciated, thank you for reading!

Do you think T & T are already engaged or nah?
I don’t think they’re engaged yet but I think they’re planning to get engaged pretty soon. I think this for the following reasons: 1) they’ve been together 1 year which isn’t that long but also more importantly like half of said year they spent apart due to scheduling so kinda a big decision to make with the info they have on each other and considering neither of them are actually batshit crazy usually 2) Travis’s side is incapable of shutting up about anything so I doubt they’d have a long sekrit engagement. I think they might keep it a secret for a few weeks/a month or so just to tell all their irls first and have a celebration but then eventually they’ll tell. Also they strike me as not wanting a long engagement tbh because for them the engagement would essentially be the start of wedding planning and I don’t see them having a wedding until after his season/the tour’s over. So my guess still is that they get engaged this winter or in spring and get married next summer.
I don’t claim to ~ know ~ but that just seems like the most sensible way of going about it with the most amount of good will press (which they both care about and lbr an engagement/marriage right through his season, should the Chiefs then fuck out, would lead to massive hate on both from NFL fans and stuff). And I don’t see why THOSE TWO would do a sekrit engagement because like… why? If they have a planned timeline why mess with that?

There’s a moment where Flynn tries to remember if that fact was ever brought up before he decides no, it had not. “Does that matter? She doesn’t want to marry him. That should be like… illegal. We’re being the good guys by breaking this up, we already figured that out.” The reasoning made little sense much like all drunk decisions do, but it sounded strong to his current mind. Even as Rapunzel brings up the engagement party they had attended, the one that had been the reason he’d been tortured all those months ago, Flynn doesn’t see the issue. “Nah. No way it’s the same people. Lots of people get married. This guy didn’t say anything about the Hoppers.” It was more information than he should have dropped, but the alcohol in his system left his usual defenses down.
Which was also why he was even bringing up the awkwardness that had been between them for so long, and why when Rapunzel says they’re still friends Flynn lets out a small sigh and drops his hands from her hair. “But I don’t want to be friends,” he admits, frowning as he looks at her. The desire to touch her is so strong and he’s far too drunk to fight it off, so he reaches one hand up and traces his fingertips across her cheek. “I want to be a lot more than friends, Blondie. Kinda always have. Did you really think I didn’t? How can you not know that I’m so in love with you?”
Tumblr media
"Do you even ... do you know who's getting married?" There had been that one engagement party she'd gone to with Varian that had somehow resulted in a major injury to the boy beside her, and all she could hope was that Flynn wouldn't be so careless as to try and wreck their wedding, too. The poor people who had to deal with shenanigans at not one, but two of their events would likely be even less forgiving this time. "Not that I know anyone getting married, or anything, but there was that party we went to," Rapunzel subtly reminded him, hoping he'd get the hint.
A pit formed at the bottom of the blonde's stomach the moment the lanterns were mentioned, and Rapunzel knew there was no going back now. Not that she'd ever experienced being this intoxicated before, but she didn't even know whether he meant what he was saying, or if he'd remember it all in the morning. "No, um, you didn't mess anything up. It's okay, though, we're fine, right? Still friends. That's all that really matters, I think, isn't it?" she asked, giving him her best attempt at a smile as her emotions lay in a knot in her throat.

“Any sign on Wilson?” Joaquin yelled out as he looked through the binoculars.
“Negative.”
Eyes squinted trying to get any sign of Sam. He spared you a glance and watched as you typed away on your portable computer, paying no mind to the yells or rumbled dirt roads that rocked the military transports. “Would it kill you to stay alert?” He shook his head looking through the binos again.
“I am.” You replied shortly, not even sparing the man beside you a glance.
“You call looking at your screen, staying alert? We have The Falcon flying over us. Are you not the least bit pumped?”
You squint your eyes as you press down on some keys. “I don’t think Vasant getting taken is the right time to get pumped.” You put your fingers in quotations. “And I am alert!” You got offended.
“Really?”
“Really, and while you were too busy playing I-Spy. Wilson’s beacon is now on.” Your sweet tone made Joaquin roll his eyes. He remained quiet for the rest of the ride.
“I accept your apology.” You smirked, smiling at the device in your lap, while continuing to observe the beacon on your computer’s radar.
“Yeah, yeah.” His grumpy pants muttered under his breath.
“Sam, twelve o’clock.” You looked up and gestured to Joaquin.
“Sam, Torres here. Sending intel to your HUD right now.” Joaquin talked through his com. “I’ll be your boots on the ground, sir.”
“Boots on the ground?” You stared at him amused.
“It’s an expression.” He protested.
“Uhuh…” You nodded.
“I got eyes on the plane, any sign of L.A.F?”
“Nah, nothing yet, but I’ll keep tracking the chatter.”
You coughed then gave him a pointed look.
“Y/L/N and I will keep tracking the chatter.”
“They’ve already hijacked the plane.”
“Oh, we’re gonna need to call some people.” Joaquin grimaced.
“Already on it.”
“Okay switching to plan B.” Sam informed, through the coms.
“What was plan B again?” You asked out of curiosity.
“Ah so you weren’t paying attention.”
“Staying alert and paying attention falls within a very thin line of difference.” You closed your pointer finger and thumb for emphasis. “This thin, Lieutenant.”
“You two always bicker like a married couple?”
“No!” You both exclaimed annoyed into the comms at the same time.
“Yeah okay…Redwing engaged!” Sam commanded and his little drone unattached itself from its portable.
You both pouted looking away from each other in a huff. You looked up not seeing your man in the sky. “I think he’s made it onto the plane.” You squinted as the sun hit your eyes. “Not seeing any other movement.” You bit your lip. “He’s gone silent? Hey, Sam, you good, you’re looking a bit quiet over there?” You asked.
“Sam?” Joaquin checked the binoculars again.
“And…they’re jumping.” You stated, nodding as the criminals began going out one by one out of the plane. “Vasant is not going to enjoy that.” You grimaced.
Sam quickly followed the last jumper. Doing a front flip, then gliding out.
“Woah! Ha ha ha.” Joaquin chuckled with excitement upon seeing Sam extend his wings. He smiled over to see your reaction as well, but then frowned once he saw your eyebrow raised. “What?”
“Careful, your fangirling is showing.” You flicked his nose. You shook your head. “A whole month with the Falcon, you’d think you’d be used to seeing him do that by now.” You asked.
“What, it’s cool.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Your eyes then widened, noticing how close Sam was getting to the border. “Uh Torres, Sam’s cutting it real close there.” You turned the screen to show him.
“All right, heads up! You’re about to fly into Libyan airspace.”
“And I assume they have a problem with that?”
“Yeah, yeah, a big problem. A big problem.” Joaquin nodded furiously.
“Oh it’s going to be more than a big problem if he doesn’t make it.”
“He’ll make it.” Joaquin reassured, but even he was a bit anxious.
“How long I got?”
Joaquin turned to you.
“N-Ninety seconds in counting.”
“Ninety seconds!” He repeated back to Sam.
“Torres.” You warned, looking at the screen, showing the three beacons inching closer to the border. “Come on, come on, come on.” The jeeps came to a stop, Joaquin jumping out staring out into the distance. You stayed put in the jeep as everyone else got out. A few helicopters and missiles going off in the sky.
“Awe shit, shit, shit. He’s out numbered!” Joaquin pushed one of your men out of the way and scrambled into the driver’s seat.
“What’re you doing?” You raised your voice wondering where the hell he was thinking about going.
“Y/n, shut up and strap in…please.” He paused then pleaded with you.
“I don’t like your tone-”
“And we really don’t have time for this!” He exclaimed. Stepping down on the gas that caused you to fall on your back in the backseat. You groaned and clambered into the passenger seat beside the yelling Lieutenant.
“That was not nice…” You sassed, strapping in and punching his right shoulder.
“Ow, what the hell was that for?” He leaned away from you as he continued driving.
“Guys, now’s not the time!” Sam said annoyed.
“Sam, we gotta fall back! We got to call it off! We gotta find another way!” Joaquin yelled into the coms.
“Call it off, what about Vasant?”
“I just did!”
You looked up right as the explosion went off. The missiles hitthe helicopter and blow it up in flames. The red beacon disappears from the tracker, while the blue being Sam, rerouted and turned around with Vasant. No one had interfered with the Libyan border.
“Oh my god, holy shit!” You exclaimed. Joaquin stopped the jeep and threw his helmet up, cheering and throwing his fist in the air like the dork he was.
“Yeah!” He jumped, seeing Sam fly down to where you two were. “Whoo!”
“You did it, Sam!” You laughed out your excitement. As soon as Vasant was put down gently in the back. You gave Sam a side hug then went over to the tired soldier. “Hey there buddy, long trip?” You joked, Vasant clearly not wanting to put up with you and your antics, simply rolled his eyes. “Want some food, a cold shower, nice warm bed. Bet you missed that, huh?” You smirked at him.
“Alright soldier, stand down.” Joaquin smiled, pushing you away, feeling that Vasant had a rather rough day, stopped you from poking any more fun at the poor lad.
“Ay, ay, Lieutenant Dork.” You saluted him with a smirk.
“You’re gonna make the drive back a living hell for us, huh?”
“Like the underground flaming hot pits of Satan.” You wrapped your arm around Joaquin.
Sam too joined in on the laughter and said, “If you want me to fly you back to base, all you gotta do is ask?” He turned to Vasant.
“Seriously, oh my god, please!” He perked up at the suggestion.
“That hurts, I’m wounded.” You feigned hurt and rested a hand where your chest was covered by the bulletproof vest.
“My patience will be wounded.” Joaquin fired back.
“Alright love birds, how about we get a move on, shall we?” Sam smiled, amused at you two. Turning his back to prepare to take off.
“I’ll show you a birdie!” Quickly you stuck out your middle finger, to which Joaquin forced your arm down, so as to not embarrass him and yourself in front of the “Falcon” as he always said.
“Okay, let’s get this show on the road.” Joaquin nervously clasped his hands together, and tossed you the keys. “Y/L/N, you drive!”
“Excuse me?” You groaned.
“That’s an order, soldier!” He looked at you dead in the eye, and you swore you felt something stir between your legs. Your back straightened as you nodded curtly.
“Y-Yes, sir!” You obeyed and got in the driver’s side.
Joaquin was taken aback by your sudden obedience to his command. Usually it’d take a bit of bickering to listen to him. He looked over at Sam with wide eyes, while Sam had a stupid smirk plastered on his face.
“Alright then, Torres. I see you!” Sam nodded, praising the young man.
“T-That was, I didn’t- did she like that. Holy shit!” He exclaimed, then straightened himself out. “That worked!”
“You do realize you out rank her right?” Sam chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah I know. I’m just not used to…” He trailed off.
“Giving orders. It’s all good man.” Sam patted his shoulder.
“Oye, pendejo, you coming or not?” You called over your shoulder. Sam and Joaquin turned their heads.
“I should’ve never taught her Spanish.” Joaquin rolled his eyes.
A playful smile spread across your face. His heart skipped a beat, god how he adored your smile, those were hard to come by especially with the line of work you both did. He hadn’t realized he was staring longer than he should have, that Sam caught him.
“My advice, tell her about how you feel before it’s too late.”
“Joaquin. Let’s go!” You looked at him out of patience.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m going!” He acknowledged you then told Sam. “Before it’s too late huh?” He muttered.
“Those special ones are only once in a lifetime. Yours just so happens to be Satan dressed in camouflage.” Joaquin laughed at that. He shook his head.
“Yeah she can be a pain, but she’s the only one I’d allow to make me feel any.” Joaquin looked down at his boots then began walking to the jeep.
“Catch you back at base?” He turned to Sam.
“Race ya?” Sam joked.
“You’re on!” You overheard them and yelled out.
“No!” Joaquin turned the idea down immediately, especially with you being behind the wheel. “We won’t make it back if that happens.”
“You’re no fun.” You started the engine.
“Sorry I care about my well-being?” He squinted his eyes at you.
“Can we go now?” Vacant complained from the backseat. You looked at him over your shoulder then at Joaquin.
“Andalé let’s go!” Joaquin gently punched your shoulder, not as hard as you hit him though. “And no speeding!”

Hey, y'all! Three sneak peeks this week. The one for Vegas is pretty short; it was hard to take longer pieces from part 3 without giving too much away. But, the chapter will be out within the next few days, so there is not much longer to wait.
I hope you enjoy these!
Grandparent’s Day- Tobias Carrick x F!MC (Part 4, T&C Baby & Wedding Stories)
“Hey babe, did you pack the crash cart for when we lay this all on your mom?”
“I’ve arranged for one to be at the house when we arrive,” he laughed. “In all seriousness, telling her, we’re engaged would send the woman into the stratosphere. But following up with, we’ve got a baby on the way,” his grin stretched from ear to ear as he rubbed his fiance’s belly. “She may not make it.”
“She’ll make it just fine. She’s waited all your life for this, and she’s not going to miss out now.”
“What about your parents? How do you think they’ll take it.”
“I think all the news at once may be overwhelming, but they’ll be thrilled.”
She noticed Tobias tense up, his hands clenched the steering wheel tighter.
“Tobias, what’s wrong?”
“Your father….he’s going to kill me, isn’t he.”
“Tobias,” she shoved his shoulder gently. “My dad is a little old-fashioned, and chances are he would have preferred for me to have been married, then had the baby announcement. But he’s not going to make an issue out of it. He really likes you.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. Besides, we live together. It’s not like he doesn’t know we have sex.”
“Nah-ah.  That’s where you're wrong. He knows we share a house. Until this point, there was zero actual proof that I had violated his daughter in any way. That all ends now. He’s going to know. Are you sure he won’t kill me?”
What Happened in Vegas – Part 3 – Ethan Ramsey x F!MC
“Ethan!” Casey shook him when he didn’t stir. “Ethan! You need to wake up. RIGHT NOW! Something terrible has happened!”
Ignoring her, he pulled a pillow over his head, muttering a string of unintelligible words as he did. Furious, Casey yanked the pillow away.
“I’m not joking! Get up!”
“Rookie, I’m seriously hung over. How terrible are we talking about? Because if it's less than a 9 on a scale of 1-10. I'm not getting up."
“Oh, really? Well, how is a 235 on a scale of 1-10? Would that get you out of bed? Because that's what we're dealing with. Now, you need to get up, NOW!"
Friends* Part 4 (Unnamed) – Tobias Carrick, F!MC
“Jesus!” Tobias jumped. “You have to stop starling me like that, Lahela! I’m not as young as I used to be.”
“That’s right,” Bryce laughed. “I forgot that I’ve been trolling geriatrics for friends now. So, listen, old man, you coming to game night on Saturday? I got a life-sized Jenga… it’s gonna be epic!”
“What could go wrong there? Count me in.”
“Good choice. You wouldn’t want to miss the injuries. Hey, why don’t you bring your ‘friend’ along.”
“My who?”
“You’re ‘friend,’ the one you told me about?”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea, man. That conversation I was going to have with her… it didn’t go so well.”
“Ah, shit. I’m sorry, T.  Hey, I can invite Claudia for you if you need a rebound.”
“I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“OK, so then it’ll just be the usual gang. Oh, and Jake.”
“Jake?”
“Yeah.  Casey’s Jake.”
“He’s… he’s Casey’s Jake now?”
“Well, it’s not like they’re official. But they’ve been on a few dates, and I told her to bring him along. He’s a really cool guy, and this will give you a chance to get to know him. I’m shocked you haven’t already. You typically vet all of Casey’s boyfriends.”
“Boyfriend?”
“Well, guys, she’s been on more than two dates with. They always required the Tobias stamp of approval. But Jake snuck right past you, didn’t he?”

Till The End of Summer - Chapter 15 (Bonus: The End)
Tumblr media
>> series masterlist <<
Pairing: Choi Yeonjun x Reader
In a Nutshell: College!AU, Rich Kids, Friends to Lovers, Fuckboy athlete Yeonjun, Overprotective Best friend Soobin, contains all of TXT and other Idol cameos, Omnipresent perspective.
Genre: Fluff, Angst.
Synopsis: You and Yeonjun are caught up in a cat and mouse game because of unspoken feelings and endless pining for each others’ attention. With the summer break approaching and lots of college parties, will you finally get a chance to explore your feelings for each other; even though the world, Yeonjun’s family, past and reputation makes things complicated?
Word count: 7K
Genre:  Fluff, Angst
Warnings: None??
Tumblr media
Yeonjun was following you around the house like a lost puppy as you were running around like a crazy person, gathering stuff you needed while you were half-dressed and half ready to leave the house.
“Baby, slow down,” he says as he zipped up your dress from the back while you were putting on your heels.
“No, we’re gonna be late for our best friends' wedding. Ugh, I knew we shouldn’t have showered together, that always ends with dickstractions.”
Yeonjun stopped in his tracks, unable to suppress his laughter. “Did you just say dickstrations?”
You turn around on your heels, a little startled at how close he was. You hadn’t looked at him since he changed into his suit and suddenly you feel your mouth grow dry at the sight.
He noticed how you were gawking at him and grinned, holding you by your waist. “Like what you see?” he asks all seductively, running his hands through his roughly slicked-back black locks. He looked ravishing, even better than the runway models of his own fashion shows.
You nod, biting your lip as he inches closer for a kiss, but you stop him as realization hits you. “Babe no, my make-up.”
He rolled his eyes, letting go of you so you could finish getting ready, and sat down on your king-sized bed, watching you put on the diamond choker necklace he got you for Christmas last year.
“I can’t believe they’re getting married,” he mumbles as he stares into distance.
“That’s usually what happens when you get engaged, babe.”
Your tone was a little bitchier than you intended, but after 5 years of being together while all of your friends were getting married left and right, you had no idea why you hadn’t been proposed to yet.
The thing is, between Yeonjun starting his own luxury fashion brand and your demanding job at a scientific research facility, you haven’t had the time to even think about having a wedding of your own, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t want one.
Yeonjun looked at you a little puzzled and just as he was going to open his mouth to speak, his phone started to ring.
You looked at him through the mirror as you put your diamond earrings on and by the frown that had taken over his features you knew it had to be work.
He picked up with a sigh. “I thought I told you not to call me today unless it was an emergency, so this better be good.”
Yeonjun as a businessman was a full 360 from who he was at home or with his friends. It’s not like he was an asshole but…the reason why his brand got to showcase its creations next to majors like Balenciaga and Céline so quickly wasn’t because of his soft side.
You make eye contact and you raise your brow in question, but he just silently mouthed that it was work as he opened your bedroom door.
He walked out, not wanting you to hear him rant to his employees about some fuck up on their side.
You quietly put your lipstick in your clutch as you hear him close his office door behind him. Well shit. It must be bad if he doesn't want you to hear.
You hoped that whatever it was wouldn’t spoil the mood.
Tumblr media
You fix a piece of Yeonjun’s hair as he’s driving and pout. He was stressed and nervous, you could tell by the way he was biting the inside of his cheek. he was Soobin’s best man, and you were Mia’s maid of honor; so, you were heading there earlier to welcome the guests and help them wherever you could.
“Are you nervous baby?” you ask as you intertwine your fingers with his.
He sighs, raising your intertwined hand to his plump lips to give the back of your hand a sweet kiss before putting both of your hands in his lap. “I have so many responsibilities tonight, I thought weddings were supposed to be fun,” he mumbles, anxiety evident in his voice.
Yeonjun is a perfectionist, so everything had to go perfect today. And given the fact that he had quite the role to uphold tonight, if anything were to be less than perfect, he’d be to blame.
At least that’s how he sees it.
After all these years Yeonjun is still hard on himself, but since it comes from a place of love for Soobin and Mia his perfectionism is even worse.
“It’ll be funnnn” you drag your words as you shake his shoulder to get him to lighten up and it seemed to work as he displayed his pearly whites to you in a boyish smile.
When you arrive at the venue, you’re in complete awe of how beautifully the place was decorated.
White flower walls and branches were set up throughout the place, they had starlight projectors, big round tables for their guests and the stage was beautifully decorated with polaroid pictures of them and their loved ones.
It was breathtaking and absolutely adorable. From the details of the engraved silverware to all the guests' names on their respective champagne glasses, they literally thought of everything.
You excitedly look around as you hold on to Yeonjun's arm as you drag him around the empty venue. “Oh my god, and this! They’re polaroids from our college days look!” you point at one of the pictures on the flower wall in front of you and Yeonjun leans forward to look at the group picture of the boys, Mia and yourself.
“This was at my welcome home party, look. I’m knocked out on your lap.” You giggle excitedly and start looking at the other pictures with childlike enthusiasm and suddenly Yeonjun finds himself simping over how cute you are right now.
He looked around him and noticed how a few staff members were fixing some flower arrangements or plates without minding the two of you, which gave him the perfect reason to be clingy.
“You look so beautiful,” he says as he snakes his arms around your waist from behind, leaning his head on your shoulder.
You’re surprised by his sudden display of affection and try to turn around but he holds you in place as he softly kisses your neck.
“Yeonjun, stop. I swear if you leave a hickey, I’ll kill you. Both of our parents are coming.”
He smiles against your skin. “We’re adults.”
“No, I’m the adult, you’re a man child” you argue with a smile and he let out an amused chuckle, reluctantly letting go of you.
“Fine. Just wait till we get home.” He threatens as he casually smacks your ass.
Your moment was interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat and when you turn around you are met with Soobin’s tall and handsome form.
He was wearing the white suit Yeonjun designed for him, his hair was slicked back and he had the prettiest smile on his face as he laid eyes on both of you.
“Soobin!” you yell as you launch forward to hug him. He stumbled a step back and chuckled as you hold him at an arm's length. “Wow, you clean up nicely. You look great! So handsome.” You compliment him with a wink and he smiles at you all giddily. “Thank you, you don't look so bad yourself.”
“Ok, enough doting on each other,” Yeonjun says rolling his eyes as he pulls you back so you’d stand next to him again. The action made both Soobin and yourself burst out into laughter.
“What are you jealous of, I’m literally getting married.’ Soobin boasts all confidently as he wraps an arm around Yeonjun. “I’m jealous that no one’s complimenting me.” Yeonjun pouts and your eyes nearly roll out of your skull as you hear Soobin trying to heal Yeonjun’s ego with compliments.

You softly knock on the door before you peek your head through and make eye contact with Mia through the full body mirror she was facing. Her parents were next to her as well as her brother and her make-up artist.
You both look at each other with shocked facial expressions and when you lock eyes with her, you immediately start to tear up.
She looked beautiful. The strapless lace mermaid gown she was wearing was absolutely show-stopping. Her hair was down, long and wavy, and her make-up was also flawless. You had never seen her like this, and suddenly it hit you that two of your best friends were getting married to each other.
“Mia…” your voice was almost inaudible and when she turned around to see the tears in your eyes, she started to choke up as well.
“Shit, no. Don’t make me cry, my face will melt,” she says as she starts waving her hands to fan herself and the two of you start to giggle as you move closer to embrace her carefully without ruining her attire.
You greet her family before they left to give you a moment alone and turn to her again once they left.
“How does Soobin look?” she asks all excitedly. They hadn’t seen each other today and looking at Mia you were sure that Soobin would start crying once he saw her. “Almost as pretty as you do,” you joke as you walk to the small window of her dressing room that had a view of the main entrance.
“Are you nervous?”
The place was already getting packed with friends and family, and you spotted the table you’d be seated at, seeing that the boys and their partners were already there.
“Nah, well maybe a little. I’m sure the nerves will go away once I look in his eyes.”
You pout at her cute statement and look at the clock. “Half an hour till showtime.”
“Oh, shit. Well, I have to get going. I’m taking some pictures with my family before the ceremony, I’ll see you in a bit!”
You nod at her with a smile as she rushes out of her dressing room and make your way down the stairs. You were scanning the halls for Yeonjun but couldn’t find him or the boys when you swore you just saw them.
Your parents would arrive any minute now too, so your mind was in overdrive trying to find any familiar face at this point. You decide to just make your way to your table but halfway there you felt a slight tug on your wrist.
“Y/n? Is that you?”
You turn around a little bewildered because you were so focused on finding either Yeonjun, your friends, or your parents but when you see the man in front of you, you almost want to disappear.
It’s your fucking ex-boyfriend. Of course, he’d be here, he’s Soobin’s cousin.
You try not to look too startled but when he goes in for the hug you can’t hide your shock at seeing him again after all this time. “Minjae?”
“The one and only.”
Ew. He’s still smug. What did you even see in him?
You look around quickly to find an excuse to leave but everyone was still missing from your assigned table.
“Can I just say, you look gorgeous. Red is your color,” he states while biting his lip as he looks you up and down. The action made you awkwardly scratch your neck in response. “Uhm, thanks.”
“Why are you alone?” he asks as he bit his lip, unapologetically looking you up and down.
“Oh, I can’t find my boyfriend, I think he went to prepare something with his friends.” You made sure to mention that you were seeing someone and that that particular someone was here with you right now, but Minjae didn’t seem to be fazed by the information
Your relationship ended on bad terms since he cheated and you. You left for college right after your breakup so you never really got closure, of course, you had to run into him here. Just your fucking luck.
“Hmm, is he in his right mind leaving a pretty girl like you all by herself out here?” he asks with a smirk while you try your best not to gag.
If you could tell him off, you would. But the last thing you wanted was to cause a scene at your best friends’ wedding.
“Uhm, I think I’m gonna go find him.” You try to escape but Minjae follows your figure and stops you from walking away by standing in front of you again.
“Wow wow, not so fast sweetheart, let’s catch up.” He caresses your upper arm and you flinch at the contact, subtly avoiding his touch.
“I know we didn’t end things on great terms but I’m a changed man, I swear,” he says as he takes a step closer. He was trying to intimidate you and clearly wasn’t fazed by the fact that people were passing by the two of you left and right as it started to get busier and busier while you only got more and more uncomfortable by his presence.
“Yeah…that’s nice Minjae but I-”
“and I mean, how serious could that relationship of yours be? I don’t see a ring on your finger.”  He interrupts you, wiggling his fingers around to show that he wasn’t wearing one either.
You’re at a loss for words and just about had it. The audacity?
Soobin always hated Minjae, and now you are starting to understand why.
“Do you see the man on her arm?” Yeonjun’s voice was crystal clear.
He showed up out of nowhere, grabbing your hand to snake around his arm as he nonchalantly put his hand in his pocket while he looked Minjae dead in the eye with a stoic expression.
You cling onto him, relieved that he showed up. He checked on you quickly but when he saw the distress in your enlarged pupils his jaw clenched.
“Was he bothering you?”
Yeonjun didn’t give a shit. People were starting to look your way, including Soobin and his parents.
“I-”
“Oh, wait. You’re Choi Yeonjun, right? That designer.” Once again you are cut off by Minjae, and Yeonjun wasn’t having it, rolling his eyes as annoyance got the best of him.
“Yes. I’m surprised you know of my brand. Looking at your H&M suit I wouldn’t guess you could afford it.” Yeonjun says with a smug grin and all you can do is snort at his comment.
Minjae stiffened, not expecting Yeonjun to come for his throat like that but he tried to act nonchalantly; laughing it away.
“I-it’s Zara.” Minjae tries, but Yeonjun licked his lip as he looked down with a smirk. He pulled you into him and placed a kiss on top of your head. “Let’s get going baby. Soobin needs us to be ready.”
Yeonjun placed his hand on the small of your back to guide you to where Soobin was standing and you finally start to breathe normally again.
“Who the fuck was that?” Yeonjun asks visibly annoyed.
“Choi Minjae. I used to date him in high school,” You explain in a hushed tone as you make your way through the venue.
“Choi as in Soobin?” he asks wide-eyed
“Yes, they’re cousins.”
Yeonjun stayed quiet but you knew this would be a topic of discussion later on.
He wiped the annoyed scowl off his face as he approached Soobin and replaced it with a smile.
“What was that about?” Soobin asks as he turns to the two of you.
“Just Minjae being a dick. What else is new,” You sigh, making Soobin clench his jaw as he eyes Minjae who had by now sat down next to Soobin’s aunt and uncle at their assigned seats.
“It’s ok, Yeonjun told him off he won’t try it again. What’s a wedding without a little family drama am I right?” you try to calm Soobin’s protective side down a little, but even after all these years, nothing has changed in that aspect.
“He’s the ex that cheated on you right?” Yeonjun asked and you nod, giving him a look. “Let’s just let it go ok, the ceremony is about to start.”
Your attention is shifted to Hueningkai, who hugged Soobin from the back, making Soobin jump at the sudden attack. “Hiiii” he cooed as he rubbed his belly.
Soobin and Yeonjun start beaming at him and you watch them have their moment until he turns to you for a hug. “Hi babyface,” you tease, making Hueningkai cringe.
“Stop calling me that, I’m 25,” he complains, but he secretly loves it and before you knew it you were joined by Beomgyu and Taehyun.
It wasn’t long before the ceremony would start. Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai stood on Soobin’s side of the altar, and you stood on Mia’s side with Ryujin and some of Mia’s childhood friends and cousins.
As both yourself and Yeonjun were appointed as maid of honor and best man, you stood in the front. Yeonjun stood with his head held high, eyeing you and giving you a mischievous wink as you made eye contact. You winked back with a smile which made him chuckle and look down to control his facial expressions.
When you look out on the crowd you make eye contact with your dad who was shaking his head with amusement at how childish the two of you were being and suddenly embarrassment flushes over you, especially when you saw that Yeonjun’s mother had the exact same expression on her face as she was seated next to your parents. A sight you could never get used to.
The music started to play, all of the guests stood up simultaneously and the large white double doors at the entrance opened to show Mia holding on to her fathers’ arm. People started to cheer including yourself and the boys, and without much time Soobin was already choking up and biting his lip to suppress tears.
Yeonjun looked at Soobin with glistening eyes, patting his shoulder to show comfort as Mia approached.
It was beautiful. All of it. From their vows to their first kiss as husband and wife, it was like a scene out of a movie. The pure happiness you felt for your friends was almost overwhelming and after congratulating the newlywed couple and dinner with soppy speeches by the boys, yourself and their parents it was finally time to party.

You helped Mia change into something more comfortable in her dressing room and sighed as you looked at her. “How does it feel to be married?” you ask with a smirk, which Mia reciprocated. “Not much is different, other than the fact that I can call him my husband.”
“Must be nice, I’m in my late twenties and still call Yeonjun my boyfriend. It’s getting weird. The questions of people around me are even worse.”
“Like what?”
“Why aren’t you married, don’t you wanna settle down? Are the two of you in an open relationship, are you sure he’s not cheating on you? The list goes on.”
Mia’s face contorted from confusion to disgust. “Who the fuck says that.”
“My co-workers.” You huff. “But enough about me, I’m sorry. This is your day.” You try to laugh it off, but Mia is a literal psychologist, so she wouldn’t just let this go.
“Hmm, no. The dance floor can wait,” she says as she sat down on the couch, patting the empty spot beside her to tell you to sit down.
You try to protest but she grabs your wrist and pulls you down with her, making you look her in the eye.
“Have the two of you talked about marriage?”
“Yes and No.”
“Does he know you wanna get married?”
“Yes.”
“Ok, then…why hasn’t he asked.”
“Girl, you tell me.” You sigh. “Do you think he’s having second thoughts? With his brand and the people he’s around, they're a different caliber of gorgeous.”
“Y/n.” Mia scoffs. “Yeonjun would die without you, and you know he isn’t that shallow. He loves you more than anything. He still looks at you the way he looked at you in college. Just talk to him…”
“And say what? Hey dude, why haven’t you proposed to me yet?”
“…yeah.” She shrugged, not getting why you wouldn’t just talk to him about it but you honestly didn’t know how to bring up the conversation. If you both talked about it and he proposed somewhere in the future, it’d mean that he did it because you wanted him to and not because he wanted to.
“I can’t do that; my pride is in the way.” You explain giving her the short answer to your thoughts.
“I can talk to him.”
“No Mia, please. No.”
“Ah, come on. I won’t make it obvious; you know me.”
Tumblr media
Mia plopped herself down on the seat next to Yeonjun.
“So, when are you two getting married?” she says without a filter, making you choke on your drink. You had fire spewing from your pupils as you look at her, mouthing a ‘bitch what the fuck’ to her which she just shrugged off, turning her attention to Yeonjun.
“Uhm…” Yeonjun chugged his champagne in one shot and bit the inside of his cheek.
Shit.. he only does that when he’s nervous about something.
“I mean, we haven’t really had the time. Our jobs are too demanding right now.” He explains with a soft smile, hoping that Mia would leave him alone about it, but he knew better.
You awkwardly shift in your seat and wanted to avert the conversation, but the other boys were already busting it down on the dance floor with Soobin, meaning the three of you were alone.
Yeonjun looked at you and noticed that you weren’t looking at him or Mia and sighed.
“I don’t know, the whole concept of marriage is kinda outdated right? I mean no offense of course. You just got married.” He gave Mia one of his hypnotizing smiles but if you heard that right then that was the confirmation you needed. He got up, kissing the top of your head. “You coming to dance with me?” he asked innocently but you just shook your head.
He isn’t planning on proposing to you. Not now, not ever.
“I’m sitting this one out.”
Yeonjun nodded understandably and walked towards his friends, making a dumbfounded Mia look at you with concern.
“….He…thinks it’s lame?” Mia says confused as ever.
“I don’t know Mia, I’ll just let it go for now.”
“No, listen to me y/n. If this is what you want for your future, then you have to let him know. Otherwise, he’ll never get it. You don’t want to have to explain to your kids why daddy never married mommy.”
You sigh loudly, slouching in your seat while rubbing your forehead. “Wait,” Mia says. “He does want to have kids, right?”
“Yes, he does.”
“Ok…at least you have that in common.” She tries to joke to lighten the mood but you glared at her.
“Mia…”
“Ah, I’m sorry. I know it’s not funny.” She shrugged, holding out her hand. “Wanna go dance?”
“No, I’m gonna look for my parents and Yeonjun’s mom.” You say looking around to find them.
Mia pouted at your rejection but she understood that you weren’t in the mood right now. “I expect at least one dance with my best friend, ok?” she pouted at you and you give her a weak-hearted smile.
“Ok, I promise. But later, ok?”
She nods and you both get up as you part ways.
Yeonjun kept an eye on you and frowned when Mia approached without you.
“Where is she going?” he asked as he looked at Mia. “To say hi to her parents and your mom.”
Soobin wrapped an arm around Mia’s waist and pulled her into him with a twirl. “There’s my lovely wife,” he says as he pecks her lips.
“Oh, Jesus.” Taehyun says shaking his head. “We’ve entered a new era.”
“Let them be, they just got married.” Beomgyu chuckled as he swayed to the beat with Ryujin’s arms wrapped around his neck.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of calling you, my husband.” Mia says with a laugh as she threw her head back in laughter as Soobin attacked her with kisses,  and suddenly the puzzle pieces fell into place for Yeonjun at the sight.
The realization took over his features and he was immediately alarmed.
“I’m gonna go find y/n.” he says without looking back at his friends before he storms off to find you.
“What do we do now?” Hueningkai asks in confusion.
“What was planned,” Mia says shrugging her shoulders.
Tumblr media
Yeonjun arrived at the table both of your parents were seated at, but you were nowhere to be found.
“Hey dad, have you seen y/n?” Yeonjun asks putting a hand on your father’s shoulder.
Your dad looked up at him with a smile and shrugged. “Haven’t seen her kid.”
“She went that way.” Yeonjun’s mother says pointing to the main entrance.
Yeonjun nodded and wanted to bolt off into your direction but your mother stopped him. “Everything ok?”
“Y-yeah, I just need to tell her something,” he says as he rushed off.
The three of them follow Yeonjun with their eyes in confusion while his mother lets out an exasperated sigh.
“I hope it’s not serious.” Your dad says raising an eyebrow.
“Knowing my son, it’s serious.” She states as she downs her champagne,  grabbing another one of the waiters’ tray swiftly as they passed by.
Tumblr media
Yeonjun made his way outside of the venue. The sun had set and it was chilly out; making him worry even more because if you were out here, you’d probably be freezing.
He walked around the perimeter of the venue and stopped in his tracks when he saw you sitting alone on the steps, looking out on the lake with a wine glass in your hand.
He sighed as he watched you take a sip while you were lost in deep thought and took off the blazer to his suit as he approached you.
He draped it over your shoulders, startling you in the process but when you look up at him you instantly relax.
He sat down next to you with a low groan, taking the wine glass from your hold while taking a sip.
“That’s mine.” You try to sound playful but your tone of voice sounded rather sad, making him sigh while putting the wine glass down next to him.
“Why didn’t you tell me you want to get married?” He asks as he stares into what seems like your soul. It made you feel incredibly vulnerable and small.
“What did Mia say to you?”
“Nothing. It clicked to me when you walked off and then she called Soobin her husband and it just…”
He cut himself off as you avoided eye contact and closed his mouth with a slight pout.
“Baby…tell me.”
“Nothing I say will make sense to you,” you say with a bitter smile as you stare at the fountain in the middle of the lake. Your eyes fixated on the lights that changed color and your vision got blurry.
“Try me.” He says as he put his hand on your thigh but you stiffened at his touch, which made him frown. Having had enough of your vagueness he laced his fingers through your hair and made you look at him.
His sweet demeanor had shifted to a sterner one. He wanted answers, even if you thought they wouldn’t make sense.
He cocked his eyebrow and licked his lips, waiting for you to speak.
“Yes, I do, but I…” you take a deep breath to collect your thoughts and start rambling.
“Of course I want to get married to you Yeonjun. It’s been five years. Incredible years at that, but as time passes, I want to be able to call you my husband. I’ll be 80 years old with grandchildren and a boyfriend, and call me old-fashioned but that’s not exactly how I pictured my life to be.”
He pursed his lips together as he listened to you attentively, furrowing his eyebrows a little to understand.
“Yeonjun. If I have to tell you that I want to get married, then you’d only propose to me because I basically told you to do so and I don’t want that. I don’t want you to do something because you feel like you have to. If the thought never crossed your mind, then…that says enough”
“Y/n…I’m sorry. I just never thought that-”
“It’s ok. I’ll get over it.” You say interrupting him.
“No. Baby, hear me out.”  He made you look at him again. “You have to realize that the only example of a marriage I ever had was the one my parents were in. They hated each other. Married out of a business agreement and stayed together because a piece of paper tied them together. I don’t want that for us.”
“Yeonjun, we’re nothing like your parents ever were.”
He wasn’t helping his case with that comment. You took his hand off of your cheek and reached over for your wine glass, taking a sip once you retrieved it.
Yeonjun’s eyes were darting back and forth, trying to find the right thing to say but he knew that nothing he’d say right now would make a difference.
“I’m sorry…” Yeonjun says with sadness. He looked like a lost puppy. Truly unable to grasp why you were so upset about this, and honestly you had enough of trying to explain to him why marriage was so important to you.
Your parents were the perfect example of a successful marriage, and all you wanted was something as genuine as their love.
“Can we just talk at home? I don’t want to spoil the mood for our friends. They must be wondering where we are.”
He sighed, rubbing his forehead in agony. He watched you get up and jolted upwards in lightning speed to match your tempo.
“I don’t want to go back in there like this, we need to talk about this somehow.”
“We just did Yeonjun. I want to get married, you don’t, and last time I checked I can’t marry myself so I’m just gonna have to deal with it.”
“Y/n..”
By now you had arrived at the entrance. You downed your drink and set the empty glass down on a random tray and waltzed inside of the ballroom with big strides.
“Hey bitch, catch!” Mia yells as she throws you her bouquet.
You hadn’t even noticed how the music stopped and look at her wide-eyed. What the hell was she thinking? Wasn’t the look of thunder on your face enough of a hint that you weren’t in for her jokes right now.
You look back and Yeonjun somehow disappeared from your line of sight, making you even more confused and annoyed than you already were.
“Mia, what the hell.” You furrow your eyebrows at her and notice how suddenly all eyes were on you.
People were standing in a circle and most of the tables were set aside to create the space that you were now standing in the middle of right now.
Soobin smiled at you, he wrapped his arm around Mia’s shoulder, pulling her into him as his eyes disappeared into crescent moons. He watched your eyes widen as Tae, Gyu and Kai approached you. Tae covered your eyes as Beomgyu and Hueningkai sat you down on a random chair they brought with them.
What the fuck was going on?

- Before the wedding -
“I can’t believe they’re getting married,” he mumbles as he stares into distance.
“That’s usually what happens when you get engaged, babe.”
Yeonjun looked up at you in surprise as you were looking at him through the mirror while putting on your earrings.
Are you on to him? He dumbfoundedly stared back at you, trying to find the right words to avert your attention to a different topic but then his phone started to ring.
It was Soobin.
His eyes widened. Lying wasn’t something he was good at, but he didn’t want you to catch on.
He picked up with a sigh. “I thought I told you not to call me today unless it was an emergency, so this better be good.”
He looked at you, mouthing to you that it was a work thing as he disappeared from your shared bedroom and into his home office.
He closed the door behind him, pacing back and forth.
“Sorry, y/n was in the room,” Yeonjun says with a relieved sigh.
“Is she suspecting anything?” Soobin asks a little worried.
“No, at least I don’t think so.”
“Good. We planned this for way too long for it to be ruined. Everything is set up. She won’t know what’s coming for her.”
Yeonjun smiled, retrieving the square box from his back pocket as he opened it, staring at the 12-carat diamond ring in its case.
“I hope so.”
Tumblr media
As Taehyun removed his hands from your line of sight a still image was projected on the wall in front of you.
You blink a couple of times to look around and see how Mia and Soobin were giddily smiling at you. You give the boys a look but they just laughed it off, motioning you to look at the monitor, and that’s when the video started playing.
It was a full timeline of your relationship with Yeonjun, videos and pictures of your college days, videos of yourself and Yeonjun decorating the house for Christmas, family dinners, important milestones; he documented all of it.
Deep down inside you knew what was about to happen but after everything that just went down, it was incredibly hard to believe.
You're entranced by what you were seeing, completely frozen and in shock to even move until the video cut to a clip of Soobin and yourself as kids, you guessed you were about 5 years old at the time.
Little Soobin and yourself were having a pretend wedding ceremony, making everyone in the room swoon and chuckle.
You still remembered this day clearly. You made Soobin dress up with you and play house but 5-year-old you came to the genius realization that in order to play house, you’d have to get married first.
Your eyes started to water at the sight, and then your dad who was behind the camera cleared his throat in the video.
“Soobin, are you going to marry y/n when you’re older?” he asks panning the camcorder around to show that both of your moms were present too.
“Ew dad, no.” you crossed your tiny arms over each other and gave Soobin a grossed out glare.
“No, probably not.” Soobin agreed too as he shrugged his shoulders.
“But when I do get married, I’ll make sure y/n gets married too.” He says with a small lisp, determination evident on his features as he pursed his lips together to show off his dimples.
Your parents started to laugh in the clip. “That’s not how it works Soobin.”
“Yes it is!” little you agreed with Soobin, linking arms with him as you stared straight into the camera.
“Let’s pinky promise.” You grinned at him, linking your tiny pinky with his. “Promise!”
The video stopped and you wiped a tear from your face as you give both Mia and Soobin a sentimental smile. Beomgyu helped you stand up and ran off to stand next to the others, who were by now joined by your parents and Yeonjun’s mother.
Both yours and Yeonjun’s favorite song started to play softly, and you turn around to see where it was coming from as Daniel Caesars' voice rang through the speakers.
‘Through drought and famine’
‘Natural disasters’
‘My baby has been around, for me.’
You were met with Yeonjun’s charming smile as he walked closer to you, taking your hands to lace his fingers with yours.
“What is all this…” you look at him with watery eyes,
“Aren’t you going to keep the promise you made to Soobin?”
He smiled at you as he let go of one hand, taking a tiny black velvet box of out his pocket as he got down on one knee.
You cover your mouth out of shock, tears welling up in your eyes once more as you give him a small nudge.
“You asshole.” You huff in tears, making everyone in the room laugh including Yeonjun. "And all of you were in on it?" you ask looking back at your friends who were nodding their heads in unison.
You chuckled through your tears, averting your attention back to Yeonjun who was still knelt down before you.
“You’re my home y/n.” he says with watery eyes. “Throughout everything, you are the one thing in my life that is unchanged. I know it was far from easy to love me for the past 5 years, but with all the craziness you have stood by me. With this ring, I want to show you that I’ll stand by you too…until death do us part” he states with a soft smile, and by now your mother has started to cry, including Yeonjun’s mother; the ice queen herself.
“Y/n.” he says taking a deep breathe. “Will you marry me?”
You sniff your tears away, scrunching your nose as you start to nod furiously.
“Yes.”
Yeonjun smiled up at you, quickly putting the ring on your finger before he got up and spun you around in his arms as people started to cheer, even Minjae was bitterly clapping his hands to congratulate you.
Yeonjun hugged you tightly as you buried your face in his chest, crying at the surreal and perfect moment. He giggled as a tear ran down his face too. Burying his nose in your hair as he held you as close as possible.
“I love you,” you manage to get out before you lean in to kiss him.
“I love you too.”

- 1 year later -
“Oooh my god Mia, you’re about to pop.” Yeonjun says with big eyes as he opens the door for Mia and Soobin to enter your home.
Yeonjun and yourself had gotten back from your month-long honeymoon a few days back and you invited everyone over for a Sunday dinner.
“Gee thanks. It’s not like I’m 8 months pregnant or anything.” She huffs as she waddles to the living room to sit down next to Taehyun and his boyfriend of two years, who had already arrived prior to them.
Yeonjun chuckled, throwing an arm around Soobin.
“How are you holding up, father to be?” he asks as he squeezed Soobin’s shoulder
“I can’t wait till the baby comes. Her hormones have been crazy lately, she made me get cheese nuggets last night at 2 am.” Soobin says as he rubs his eyes.
“Oh, y/n makes me do that without the pregnant part.”
You emerge from your kitchen at the sound of your name. “You talkin shit Choi?”
“No, I just told Soobin how much I loved you.” Yeonjun says through his teeth with a smile and all Soobin could do was laugh at the interaction.
You roll your eyes, wiping your hands on your apron as you take it off.
“Dinner will be ready in like half an hour.” You announce as you walk into the living room.
When you lay eyes on Mia you immediately run over to her, squeezing her as you rubbed her belly. “She’s gonna be the cutest baby ever.” you pout.
“Have you thought of a name yet?” Taehyun asks as he reached over to touch Mia’s baby bump as well.
“We’re still deciding,” Mia says with a smile, and at that the doorbell rang once again.
You got up to open the door and were greeted with the smiles of a by now engaged Beomgyu and Ryujin, followed by Hueningkai and his girlfriend Won-young
The night was spent enjoying the food you made, you reminisced about your college days and talked about everything from your honeymoon to brainstorming baby names for Mia and Soobin.
Time flew by when you were all together.
The group was enjoying a drink at the bar area of your kitchen and you were pouring yourself a virgin martini in full concentration mode.
Yeonjun snakes his arms around your waist from behind and kissed your temple sweetly as he came to check on you. You leaned into his touch, the both of you stared at the group of people that you call your family, smiling contently as you look up at Yeonjun to peck his lips.
“When do we tell them?” he asks as he rubbed your tummy.
You turn around to face him, giving him a nervous smile. ‘I’m worried that Mia might give birth on the spot when she hears the news.”
Yeonjun snorted at your comment, touching your stomach once again as he stared down in wonder. “I still can’t believe it,” he comments as he's lost in thought to a month ago when you told him about it.
Yeonjun was quick to serve everyone a brownie for dessert, carefully instructing them to wait before they took a bite.
You got up to stand next to him at the edge of your dinner table and had the giddiest smile on your face.
“…Brownies?” Beomgyu asks wide-eyed.
“The last time you made these I developed PTSD.” Soobin says, reminiscing back to the night where you told everyone you had bagged an exchange to Brown University.
“So, you have news again?” Taehyun asks carefully and Yeonjun just nodded with a smile, pulling out his phone to record their reactions once they broke off a piece.
“You’re not immigrating to another country or anything this time, right?” Mia asked, making you and Yeonjun chuckle at the absurd guess.
“Come on guys, open it up.” You clapped your hands excitedly and waited for them to break off a piece with their forks.
Ryujin was the first one to catch on as she discovered the blue and pink cream filling, followed by loud gasps and screams from everyone.
‘WE’RE HAVING ANOTHER BABY IN THE FAMILY!?” Hueningkai yells with big eyes, asking for confirmation as everyone looked at the two of you with anticipation.
All you could do was smile and nod and suddenly you were bombarded with hugs, kisses, and even tears from an overwhelmed Mia.
“I-I’m s-so h-happy for you!” she sniffed through her tears as she hugged both you and Yeonjun clumsily yet tightly.
Soobin approached you next with a huge grin on his face. “Our kids are going to be just like us, like all of us” He said with watery eyes, looking at Yeonjun and the rest of the boys with proudness and love emitting from his pupils.
“Together forever.”

Summary: The Jedi throw an engagement party that Kanan and Hera in particular find very... engaging
Hera couldn’t believe how fast the next two weeks slipped by. Maybe it was because of all the work that needed to be done in preparation-- many of the guests invited were Imperial, so they had to make sure there were no signs of Mace, Depa and Kanan’s work with the Rebellion. There was also a lot of cleaning, cooking and various preparations to be done in general. Hera and Kanan had their own way to get ready, going over their story repeatedly to make sure they didn’t forget it, memorizing key details and producing answers for any possible questions that could be asked.
Of course, there was also the fact that Hera had started working with the cell on Lothal, alongside Kanan. She was usually the getaway pilot, but she’d gone on a couple of actual ops as well. After the first mission, Kanan relaxed significantly about her being out in the field, although Hera still wasn’t sure why he’d gotten so jumpy. She didn’t have much time to think about it, though.
Most of the guests would be arriving the day of the party, but a few arrived a couple days before. Kanan and Hera went down to meet some of them at the front door, the first of which was a tall Kalleran. The moment the Kalleran spotted Kanan he all but crushed him in a hug. “Kid! Since when are you getting married?”
“Kriff, Kasmir-- can’t breathe-- Kanan gasped.
Releasing him, the Kalleran turned to Hera and gave her a gentlemanly bow. “Janus Kasmir at your service. A pleasure to meet the young woman who caught Kanan’s heart. I have to know everything. How’d you two meet?”
“Believe it or not, it was only a month or two ago,” Hera said, slipping her arm through Kanan’s. “I was having… a little trouble with a street gang, and Kanan stepped in to give me a hand. By which I mean he handled one of them, and I took out the rest.”
“Give me a little credit,” Kanan protested. “I handled at least two.”
“Uh-huh. Sure, dear,” Hera said, unable to prevent the smile crossing her face at Kanan’s fake chagrin.
Chuckling, Kasmir said, “She’s good for you, kid. I like her.”
“Don’t call me kid,” Kanan grumbled. “But I like her, too.”
“I should hope so, you are marrying her,” Kasmir said with a dramatic roll of his eyes. “Excuse me, I’m gonna go say hi to your Jedi mom and your kid who’s cooler than you.”
As the Kalleran strode into the house, Hera turned to Kanan, trying not to laugh. “So, he’s… interesting. I like him, I will say.”
“I can’t imagine why,” Kanan said with some drama, and Hera smirked.
“Well, I kept you around, didn’t I?”
The next guest was an older man, mostly bald with a fringe of white hair, and a white beard. Directing a warm smile at them, he said, “Well, isn’t this a lovely surprise? Two of my favorite people are getting married.”
“What-- Okadiah?” Kanan said, and Hera’s gaze snapped to him.
“Wait, you know Okadiah?”
“YOU know Okadiah?” Kanan countered.
“Indeed,” Okadiah said with a chuckle. “I met Hera when she was just starting out on her own. Gave her a place to stay for a while and helped her on her way.”
“And how did you meet Kanan?” Hera asked curiously.
“It’s a long story,” Kanan cut in hastily. “That we don’t have time for right now. Suffice to say there was a moon that was about to be blown up, actually a few crazy cyborgs, and a couple barroom brawls involved.”
“I’ll regale you with the full tale another time,” Okadiah assured Hera. “In the meantime, let me just say I couldn’t have chosen better for you two if I had chosen myself. I congratulate you both deeply.
“Thanks, Oke,” Kanan said, shooting the older man a smile as he headed inside.
Next, they found themselves facing the third group, which was an eclectic group Hera had not expected-- a Mandalorian woman in green-blue armor, a Mirialan woman with purple skin, curly hair and exceptional fashion, and a human man holding hands with her. In their free hands, both of the latter two carried hefty suitcases, and the Mandalorian was lugging two more.
Grinning, Kanan stepped forward. “Cinya! How are you?”
“Still very willing to punch you out again,” the Mandalorian said tartly.
“But you won’t because he’s only got a week until his big party,” the Mirialan reminded her. Turning to Hera, she smiled warmly. “I’m Hadassah, and this is Lanter.” She nodded at the man next to her, who shot Hera a friendly smile.
“They’re dating,” Cinya said, and Kanan’s eyes lit up.
“About time-- congratulations, you two.”
“Thanks,” Lanter said, grinning. “Congratulations to you-- I can’t believe you’re getting married! Seems like only yesterday Cinya tried to kill you in Hadassah’s juice bar.”
“Good times,” Kanan said remiscently.
“I take it there’s something of a story here,” Hera remarked, and Hadassah laughed.
“You have no idea. Luckily, we'll have plenty of time to tell you. Lanter and I are your stylists for the party.”
“Really?” Kanan said, surprised. “I didn't know Mace and Depa asked you guys to do that.”
“You bet your life, you tall string bean,” Lanter said with a grin. “Lanter and Hadassah are here to save the day.”
Kanan looked at him for a moment, then turned to Cinya. “He watched “The Princess Diaries” on the way here, didn't he?”
Cinya nodded. “Both of them, and he cried twice during the second one.”
“I won't apologize for my love for Clarisse and Joe,” Lanter said dramatically. “They're the ultimate couple goals. Hadassah is my Clarisse.”
“You are so sweet,” Hadassah said, kissing him on the cheek.
Cinya let out a dramatic sigh. "You guys are so ridiculously sappy. Let's get moving.”
The five of them headed into the house and up to a suite that had clearly been prepared for this very reason-- a table was set up with a mirror on it, a swivel chair in front of it. At one end of the room Hera spotted a folding screen set up to change behind.
Lanter and Hadassah instantly started unpacking from their suitcases-- hairbrushes, makeup containers, ear cone pendants, perfumes, and a thousand other things that could be useful. “You… really came prepared,” Hera said, staring as Lanter pulled out a curling iron. “However, I doubt I’m going to need that.”
“Oh, that’s for Dassah,” Lanter assured her. “But if Kanan could just let me do his hair--”
“Absolutely not,” Kanan said immediately. “I already told Sabine she could.”
“But Kanan, I have the perfect--”
“Under no circumstances are you giving me the moose hairdo from “The Princess Diaries”, Lanter.”
Smirking, Lanter said, “But you would be a handsome moose. Make all the girl moose go WHUA!”
Kanan groaned, but Hera couldn’t help but laugh. “I think I’m going to like you,” she told Lanter, who beamed.
“Why thank you, Ms. Syndulla, I like you very much, too!”
Grinning, Hadassah said, “Alright, we have work to do, and I'm sure that you two do, as well. But before you go-- color preferences for your outfits? Keep in mind that they have to be somewhat coordinated.”
“Nah, I trust you not to put me in anything too reprehensible,” Kanan said jokingly.
Rolling her eyes, Hadassah said, “Immeasurably unhelpful. Fine-- I'm thinking of a blue and green color scheme for the two of you. Lanter, what do you think?”
“Perfect,” Lanter immediately agreed. “We'll get to work straight away.”
“And we'll leave you to it,” Hera said. Looping her arm through Kanan's, she tugged him forward, and they headed out.
As they made their way down the hall, Kanan murmured, “Nice job with Kasmir earlier. He can be a little too nosy for his own good.”
“No worries-- he seems nice,” Hera commented. “Very excited about us.”
A slight smile pulled at the corner of Kanan's mouth. “He's an old friend. I'm not surprised he's so excited, frankly. It's kind of who he is.”
Hera nodded without speaking, but felt an internal twinge. Part of her couldn't help but dislike the fact they were deceiving so many people, good people. They didn't deserve to be lied to like this.
And there was also another part of her. A part that found herself noticing Kanan's quiet determination and his kindness around Ezra and the grin he'd give her sometimes-- and she'd be lying if she said she hadn't noticed the fact that she was engaged to an extremely handsome man. There was a part of her that felt a flutter in her chest at his touch.
And that part of her wished that this whole thing wasn't based on a lie.
“Hera?” Kanan's concerned voice broke through her thoughts, and she glanced up to see him frowning at her. “You okay?”
Hera gave her head a quick shake, like the motion would send those thoughts flying. But they’d been there too long for that. “Fine, sorry-- were you saying something?”
A slight furrow in Kanan’s brow hinted that he wasn’t quite satisfied with her response, but all he said was, “I was wondering if you still think your father won’t accept his invitation.”
“Oh.” Hera shook her head. “No, he won’t come. Especially since you’re inviting Imperials to keep our cover. He doesn’t know that-- he’ll probably assume I’m all but colluding with them. So either he won’t come, or I’ll wish he hadn’t.” Releasing a sigh, she said, “I guess I always assumed he and my mother would be here for this.”
Kanan slipped his arm from around hers long enough to catch hold of her hand, and Hera felt her heartbeat stutter as his fingers laced through hers. “I’m sorry,” he said quietly, giving her hand a quick squeeze.
“It’s okay,” Hera told him, returning the gesture. “I may not have my father and mother, but I have you, and everyone else here. And at this point, they feel like family almost more than my father does.”
The smile Kanan gave her was a soft one with that unusual warmth shining around the edges, the light that she saw in his eyes more and more these days. Hera couldn’t bring herself to look away, despite the flush she knew was growing on her cheeks. Time to get out of here, she decided. Before I do something truly stupid.
“I should probably--” she started.
“Do you ever--” Kanan began at the same time. They both stopped short, and Hera laughed, feeling a flash of self-consciousness.
“Sorry, you go ahead,” Kanan said, giving her the crooked grin, the one that was Hera’s favorite. For just a second, her gaze lingered on it, and she found herself wondering what it would be like to close the distance, to drop a kiss against the upturned corner of his mouth--
What are you THINKING, Hera? She scolded herself. You can’t just start thinking about kissing Kanan, not now. Clearing her throat, she said, “I was just going to say that I’d better get going-- plenty to do before our party.”
“Right, yeah,” Kanan said, and was Hera imagining it or was there something a little strained about his voice? “Same here. See you later?”
“Yes-- but didn’t you want to tell me something?” Hera asked.
Kanan opened his mouth to speak, and stopped for a moment. Closing it, he finally shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. I’d better get going.”
Releasing Hera’s hand, he headed off down the hall, leaving Hera staring after him. Well, that was… strange. But she really didn’t have time to spend thinking about why Kanan was acting so strangely.
So of course, over the next three days leading up to their engagement party, that was all she thought about. Especially since Kanan seemed to be avoiding her. He was always out on some sort of business of some kind or in a fitting with Lanter or working to help clean out the ballroom.
And Hera didn’t feel hurt by that. That would be ridiculous. They were both busy, she didn’t exactly have time to spend with him either.
Or maybe she was avoiding him, too. Either way, it didn’t matter. Much.
Alright, it definitely did matter, but some part of Hera didn’t want to bring it up. Maybe she was afraid of the answer, maybe she was afraid she’d lose what she had with Kanan, maybe she was afraid that she was falling in love with a man she wasn’t supposed to technically fall for.
So she kept pushing aside the thoughts, and threw herself into working for the engagement party. And before she knew it, it was the evening of the party, and she was heading up to Hadassah’s suite to get her dress.
The Mirialan was waiting with excitement stamped across her face, and a companion-- Depa Billaba. Throwing her a smile, Depa said, “Don’t mind me, I’m just here to see my future daughter in law get ready. It’s my prerogative.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Hera said, giving Depa a smile and pretending like the “daughter in law” part didn’t throw her for a loop. “Okay-- where’s my dress?”
“Here,” Hadassah said, darting over to the changing screen and pulling a dress on a hanger from behind it. She held it up, her eyes gleaming with anticipation. “What do you think?”
Hera’s eyes widened at the sight-- a sleeveless dress with a high neckline, made of fluttery fabric, the color shading from teal into a deep cobalt blue. It was stunning-- Hera knew just by looking at it that she’d never owned anything so expensive and beautiful in her life, other than the Ghost.
“It’s beautiful,” she breathed, brushing a hand across the smooth cloth. “I-- I don’t know how to thank you.”
“Well, Depa paid us,” Hadassah said with a shrug. “But you can repay us by going out and having a good time with your fiance tonight. Speaking of which, I’d better get going-- Lanter’s waiting for me downstairs.”
Giving them a quick wave, Hadassah slipped out of the room, leaving Hera with Depa. Glancing at the Jedi, Hera said, “Thank you. I don’t know how I can repay you--”
“No repayment necessary,” Depa said firmly. “I’m happy to do it.” As Hera admired the dress for a moment longer, she added, “However, I do have a question for you.”
Hera glanced at Depa curiously, and saw the Jedi wearing a patiently curious expression. “I’ve noticed you and Kanan have been avoiding each other lately. Did something happen?”
“No, I-- we’re not-- what makes you think--” Hera stammered, and Depa held up a hand.
“Hera. I’m not the blind one. You two used to spend every day together, but I haven’t seen you with my apprentice in days. What’s going on?”
Hera bit her lip, her eyes flicking from Depa to the floor and then back again. Part of her felt that saying how she felt out loud would make it far too real. But the sympathy and understanding in Depa’s eyes pulled the words out of her. “I don’t want to avoid him. But things are just… complicated right now.”
Narrowing her eyes, Depa said, “Did he make a move on you?”
“What? No, of course not.” Hera felt herself flush at her next words. “Do you think-- would he-- never mind.”
“Ahhh.” A knowing smile grew on Depa’s face. “I see.”
“See… what?” Frustration boiled through Hera at the almost desperate curiosity in her words. She felt so irritatingly petty about this whole thing.
“That you’re in love with my apprentice,” Depa said matter of factly.
Oh. Oh, dear. But she wasn’t wrong. “I… I didn’t expect this to happen,” Hera said softly. “I had no idea that Kanan would be…” Handsome? Charming? So incredibly caring and kind? The kind of man I could spend my life with?
“I know,” Depa said, her tone soft and sympathetic. “It can’t be easy to be in a relationship without actually being in a relationship. Hera-- if I may give you some advice?”
“Okay,” Hera said hesitantly.
“You don’t seem to be the kind of woman who would give her heart easily. But if Kanan’s the one who’s earned it, don’t give up on that. Both of you deserve better than that.”
“He does, you’re right,” Hera agreed, her voice low. “I just don’t want to ruin what Kanan and I have by--”
“Telling him that you love him?” Depa reached out and touched her hand, her eyes kind. “You don’t have to. But honesty is important in any relationship, whether it’s romantic or not. And will you regret it if you don’t? Just think about it, please.”
“I-- I will,” Hera promised, unsure whether it was fear or determination swelling in her chest. Depa smiled and gave her hand a quick squeeze.
“Good. Now, get dressed. You have a party to get to.”
Half an hour later, Hera was wearing the amazing dress Hadassah had given her, along with a set of silver ear cone pendants set with teal gems and a matching bracelet. She waited by the door of the ballroom for Kanan, who still hadn’t arrived. Is he even coming? She wondered with a flash of worry-- silly worry, really. Kanan wouldn’t just stand her up, and it was his party, too.
Seconds after she thought the words, she heard footsteps behind her, and Kanna’s voice. “Sorry I’m late,” he called. “Ezra needed something before I left.”
“Don’t worry about it--”
Hera’s words stuttered to a halt in her mouth as she stared at Kanan, who gaped right back at her. She usually saw him in his casual every-day wear, or occasionally Jedi robes. What he wore now was nothing like that.
He wore a crisp white shirt with long sleeves and dark trousers. Over the shirt, he had on a navy blue jerkin with teal embroidery that brought out the vibrant color in his eyes. At his hip hung his lightsaber, which Hera had only rarely seen him with.
“Wow,” he breathed as he stared at her. “You’re… wow.”
“You… you look incredible,” Hera managed. And it was the truth. A small smile lifted the corner of Kanan’s mouth.
“Thanks,” he said, closing the distance between them and capturing her hand in his. Hera felt her heart start pounding as he gazed at her, seeming to drink in the sight of her. “But trust me,” he murmured. “No one’s going to be looking at me when you’re standing next to me.”
“I will be.” Hera felt her face warm the minute the words slipped out of her mouth, because it sounded like flirting. It was flirting, she knew. But she really couldn’t help herself, especially with him standing inches away from her, looking at her the way he was.
A crooked grin danced across Kanan’s face. “Really, Captain Syndulla? Flirting at a time like this?”
“Well, it is our engagement party,” Hera pointed out, feeling a ridiculous sense of relief. Kanan was here with her, and even his presence made this whole thing a little easier to deal with. Well, except for the fact that she was incredibly caught off guard by how handsome he looked tonight.
Offering her his arm, Kanan said, “That’s true. And we should probably head in. Are you ready?”
Looping her arm around his, Hera replied, “Not remotely. Let’s do this.”
“That’s the spirit.”
They moved into the ballroom subtly, but somehow everyone noticed them the moment they set foot inside. Hera could feel the eyes on her, and she stiffened, trying not to panic. Kanan’s thumb brushed against her bare upper arm, sending a quick shiver down her spine. “It’s okay,” he said, his voice too low for anyone else to hear. “Take a deep breath. I’m here.”
Somehow, that was more comforting than anything else he could have said. Hera took a quick deep breath as Mace and Depa headed their way. Depa was clad in a lavender dress, while Mace looked majestically elegant in formal Jedi robes, the dark scar across his eyes totally unhidden.
Giving both of them a warm smile, Depa said, “You both look wonderful, although you are a little late.”
“Sorry-- Ezra was trying to convince me to smuggle him cake in my pockets,” Kanan apologized.
“I’m sure that’s what the guests will think happened,” Mace muttered with a small smirk that looked a little too much like his grand Padawan’s.
“Manners, Mace,” Depa said. “And I can’t believe I’m saying that to you instead of the other way around. Okay, here’s what you two need to do-- mingle a little bit, say hello to the guests. Make sure to greet Governor Pryce--”
“Absolutely not,” Kanan said flatly. “She’s the reason Ezra’s parents are--”
“I know that, but we have to be careful, Kanan,” Depa said, her voice firm.
“What-- Pryce isn’t some invincible succubus,” Kanan protested. “She’s a regular succubus, who can be defeated.”
Releasing a sigh, Depa turned to Hera. “When Pryce comes over-- she’s the one with the short black hair, Imperial uniform--”
“Don’t look straight into her eyes, though,” Kanan muttered.
“Why, because she’ll turn you to stone?” Mace asked.
“No, because her eyes are ugly.”
Letting out a sigh, Depa said, “Perhaps it’s better if Hera does the talking.”
“Perhaps,” Hera agreed.
“Fine,” Kanan said, not looking upset. “Anything else?”
Nodding, Depa said, “Yes. Actually try to have a good time. And don’t forget to have at least one dance.”
“Finally, something I can get behind,” Kanan said with a grin, and Hera was suddenly very aware of how close they were standing, of his arm brushing against hers.
She saw a slight smile flicker across Depa's face, but all the Jedi said was, “Have fun, you two.”
Turning, she led Mace away as the music began and a few couples started to move out onto the dance floor. One in particular caught Hera’s eye--- a man with dark hair and a scar across one eye, dressed in all black, including a long black coat embroidered in gold. At his side was a slight woman, her long curly hair hanging loose and free. She was dressed in a floor length golden silk gown, with a decorative aqua panel along the bodice and a matching sash. Slim straps hung the gown from her shoulders, which were bare except for a gauzy aqua veil that was clasped to her wrists with cuffs made of the same golden silk.
“Is that Senator Amidala?” she asked Kanan quietly.
“Yeah-- as it turns out, giant engagement parties are a really good way to get your Rebellion contacts in close proximity so you can exchange information. There’ll probably be a meeting tonight with some of the leaders-- including them.”
Hera followed Kanan’s discreet nod to a dark haired woman wearing dark blue, dancing with a man in a matching cape who Hera suddenly recognized. “Wait-- Senator Organa’s here, too?”
Nodding, Kann said, “As is Senator Mothma, the Duchess of Mandalore, and about a dozen others. The Jedi aren’t submitting. We’re just waiting for the right moment to strike.” Flashing her a teasing grin, he added, “And to think, you thought we were just sitting around letting the Empire walk all over us.”
“Well, you were acting that way very convincingly,” Hera pointed out.
“Glad to hear it.”
Spotting a tall woman in Imperial greys making her way through the crowd towards them. Hera muttered, “I think I spotted your friend, Governor Pryce.”
“What? Kriff.” Kanan grimaced. “Time to pretend to be polite.”
“Unless you didn’t see her, and you had something else very pressing to address,” Hera pointed out. “After all, you do owe me at least one dance. Probably more.”
A grin slowly crossed Kanan’s face. “I do, don’t I?” Giving her a bow, he offered her a hand. “Will you dance, Captain Hera?”
Placing her hand in his, Hera said, “With you, I will.”
The two of them moved out onto the dance floor together. The music in the background was sweet and elegant, and she had an excellent partner. True to form, Kanan’s movements were smooth and graceful. “You dance better than I expected,” Hera observed.
“I’ve been practicing,” Kanan admitted with that crooked grin of his. “Didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of my fiancee, after all. Spin.”
Hera obligingly twirled away from Kanan, her hand still locked securely in his. With a gentle tug, Kanan brought her back to him, his arm slipping back around her waist. Hera felt her breath catch as she met his eyes, and was suddenly very aware of the space between them. She was close enough she could sense the warmth of Kanan’s skin, and the look in his eyes as he gazed at her sent a flutter through her stomach.
“You’re staring, dear,” she told him in a soft undertone.
“Is it that obvious?” he asked, his voice equally low.
Lifting an eyebrow, Hera said, “I mean. A little.”
A small wince crossed Kanan’s face. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable.”
“Uncomfortable isn’t the word I’d use,” Hera replied, and something flickered in Kanan’s eyes.
“Then… what would you call it?” he asked, his low baritone holding a soft question beyond his words.
“Cherished.”
The word slipped out before Hera could help it. But it was true. No one had ever looked at her the way Kanan had, the way he was looking at her now. Not like she was an object or a price on the slave market. Like she was something truly priceless.
Kanan’s eyes widened, and he started to speak. But before he could, a voice caught their attention. “Kanan! Mind if I have a word?”
Hera glanced towards the sound, catching sight of Anakin Skywalker heading towards them, a bearded man at his side who Hera realized must be Obi-Wan Kenobi. He shot Hera a look that could only be translated as “I am so sorry for this” as Anakin paused next to them.
“It’s important,” he told Kanan as he and Hera came to a halt.
“Of course,” Kanan said, releasing Hera and stepping away from her. Hera thought she saw a flash of reluctance in his eyes, but if it was there, he masked it well. Glancing at her, he said, “I’m sorry--”
“It’s fine, love,” Hera told him, forcing a smile. “I’ll leave you to it.”
She slipped away from the three of them and headed into the crowd, feeling Kanan’s eyes follow her as she walked. But it wasn’t long before she was out of their sight.
At the far end of the ballroom, there was a door that led out onto a balcony overlooking the Lothal prairie beyond the house. Hera made her way there, and slipped outside.
The cool night breeze was a relief after the nearly stifling warmth of the ballroom-- although not all of it was from the amount of people in there, Hera knew. She felt heat sweep over her again as her mind wandered back to dancing with Kanan, the warmth of his skin seeping through her dress.
Taking a quick breath, Hera pressed her hands against the cold stone of the balcony railing and stared out at Lothal’s moons shimmering amongst the stars above them. Two out of the three were full, just like the night when she’d first met Kanan. She never would have thought that evening that all of this would come about, that she would end up engaged to a man she’d just met.
That she would end up falling in love with him.
Hera pressed her eyes shut, taking a shaky breath. Force. She wasn’t even sure if he felt the same way. But that didn’t exactly stop her from thinking about Kanan, from wanting to be near him, from wondering what it would be like to kiss him.
“Hera?”
Kanan’s voice came from directly behind her, low and warm. Hera took in a quick breath, then turned to face him. The light from the doorway illuminated him from behind, the shadows obscuring his expression.
“Depa said she saw you heading this way,” he said, moving up next to her. “Mind if I join you?”
“Not at all,” Hera said, and Kanan settled beside her, resting his forearms on the balcony railing.
“Sorry we got interrupted earlier,” he said, flicking a quick glance her way. “Apparently, Skywalker’s daughter had collected some important intel he wanted to share as soon as possible.”
“It’s fine, love,” Hera said. “I understand.”
She sensed Kanan stiffen next to her, and frowned. What did I-- oh.
“You called me love,” he said, his voice soft.
“I-- yeah, I did,” Hera said, feeling herself flushing. Of course this would be how it came out. She was trying to think of what to say next when Kanan spoke.
“Do you ever wish this was real?”
Hera froze, her brain going blank. All she could manage to say was, “What?”
“This whole thing, this engagement. Do you ever wish it was real? Because I-- I can’t lie to you, Hera.” Kanan turned towards her, and Hera felt her heart stutter against her breastbone as he met her gaze. “I do,” he said. “I’m sorry--”
“Don’t be.” The words slipped out of Hera’s mouth, but she didn’t even try to take them back. She couldn’t, not with the way Kanan was looking at her now, his eyes wide but full of something that made Hera flush.
“Hera,” he whispered. “I would never, ever do anything to push past your boundaries.”
“I know,” Hera said, her gaze locked on Kanan’s face and her heartbeat steadily rising as she watched him.
“But I really, really want to kiss you right now.” Kanan paused, his eyes lingering on her, then stepped a little closer. “Can I…?”
Hera closed the distance between them without hesitation. Her lips met his, and Hera was nearly swept off her feet by the dizzy array of emotions washing over her. A strong arm slipping around her waist steadied her as Kanan kissed her back, gently drawing her close.
They broke apart a few moments later, and Hera took a quick breath in. “Force, Kanan.”
“Can you tell I’ve been waiting a while to do that?” Kanan asked, his voice amused.
“Maybe a little,” Hera said, letting her forehead rest against his. “I-- how does this even happen? Who could have seen this coming?”
Kanan paused, then let out a soft chuckle that Hera more felt that heard. “Uh. Possibly Mace.”
“What??” Hera pulled back enough to see his face. “What are you talking about?”
“The first day you were here, he told me the Force led him to you, and it wanted you here,” Kanan said. “I didn’t know why at the time, but he seemed pretty confident.”
“And you think the Force wanted us together?” Hera said, lifting an eyebrow. “The mystical Force that binds the whole galaxy together could not possibly be invested in our relationship.”
“Well, you never know,” Kanan said, giving her a cocky smirk. “We are pretty amazing.”
“You are a pain, dear,” Hera said with a roll of her eyes.
“Lucky for you I’m your pain,” Kanan said. Pausing, he asked, “Will you call me love again?”
“Kiss me, love,” Hera said, and Kanan happily obliged.

A little follow up to this post; Elliot's new partner comes over for dinner.
The next day, Stabler comes in looking a little sheepish.
"Doing anything Friday?" He asks.
They've only been working together a month or two, and they don't really talk personal stuff, as evidenced by the fact that Stabler introduced him to his not-wife and didn't even bother to mention her connection to him. Stabler's never asked him about his weekend plans. Mark is immediately wary.
"Why?"
Stabler laughs.
"Listen, Liv wanted to know if you wanna come by for dinner. The boys have sleepovers that night."
Idly Mark wonders if all six of their kids are boys and where the hell they found six families willing to host them for sleepovers. Maybe some of them doubled up. His first instinct is to say no, but honestly, he's curious about her. Captain Benson. Olivia. Liv.
"Yeah all right," he says.
"You should bring your girl. If you want."
Mark raises an eyebrow at him, and Stabler lifts his hands in a "don't shoot the messenger' kind of way.
"Liv said I should ask," he says, like that explains everything.
"You always do everything she tells you to?"
Mark just wanted to tease him about being whipped, but Stabler's face gets kinda serious.
"Yeah," he says. "There's a lot of shit in my life went wrong that would've been right if I just listened to her the first go round. Took me thirty years but I've learned my lesson."
Thirty years. That's a hell of a long time, Mark thinks. Thirty years, six kids, four grandkids, and working the job the whole time. He doesn't know how they're still alive.
"Her name's Kelly," he says. His girl. "I'll bring her."
Stabler gives him a smile that's all teeth.
So Friday rolls around and Mark and Kelly turn up at the address Stabler gave them with a bottle of cab bc he says Liv only drinks red. It's a nice little house in Queens, on a nice little street, two big ass black suvs parked out front. His and hers tanks.
"Are you nervous?" Kelly asks him. He wants to say no. Why should he be nervous? He spends all day, every day, and some nights, too, with Stabler. He likes the guy. But then he's never had dinner with a Captain before. She definitely makes him nervous.
"Nah," he says, and kisses Kelly quick before they get out of the car.
Stabler answers the door in jeans and a black button down and no shoes. He's comfortable, in his own home, and Mark can smell dinner from the doorway.
"Elliot Stabler, this is Kelly (can't be arsed to pick a last name)."
"It's so nice to meet you," Kelly says as they shake hands. "Mark talks about you all the time."
"Back at you," Stabler says with a grin. It's bullshit, Mark hasn't told him anything, but he can't help thinking the man just did him a favor by lying. Kelly is smiling ear to ear.
"We brought this for you. Mark says your wife likes red."
"She's not my wife," Stabler says reflexively as he takes it. "But she'll love it. Come on."
There's bookshelves everywhere. Mark figures they must be hers, he didn't peg Stabler as much of a reader. There's pictures everywhere, too, but Stabler's walking too fast for Mark to get a good look at them. In the kitchen she's waiting for them, Captain Benson. Her heavy, dark hair is pulled back today, and she's wearing soft, casual black pants and a cream colored blouse. She doesn't look scary, at home like this. Stabler goes to her, passes her the wine with one hand and lets the other settle at the small of her back, lets it stay there while he makes introductions.
"Thank you so much for having us," Kelly says. "You have a lovely home."
Benson looks at Stabler before she answers, the two of them sharing a private smile.
"Thank you," she says. "With a seventeen year old and a ten year old in the house it usually looks more like a federal disaster area."
"You didn't have to clean up just for us, Captain," Mark says. It's partly a joke and partly a test, and she sees through him at once.
"Please," she says. "Just Olivia here."
"You're a Captain?" Kelly shoots Mark a dark look. He may have forgotten to mention that to her.
"She's gonna outrank me for the rest of our lives," Stabler says easily. His hand is still resting at the small of her back.
"And don't you forget it. Now, who wants a drink?"
They stand around the kitchen with their wine glasses while Stabler and Benson finish cooking. He does as much of the work as she does and Mark is kind of impressed, bc he didn't peg Stabler as a cook, either, but he can tell Kelly's taking notes. The conversation flows pretty easy; Benson is nice and she knows how to talk to people, and she keeps the conversation away from work, keeps Kelly engaged. But it's kinda weird seeing Stabler, who Mark initially thought was a grim son of a bitch, smiling so much at this woman he can't take his eyes off of. They carry the food to the table, settle down to eat, and at the first lull in the conversation he strikes.
"How long you two been together?"
Stabler told him thirty years already, but he wants to hear the story. He figures it's a good one.
They share a look, Stabler and his not-wife. Like they wanna get their stories straight before one of them answers. It's not a question Mark would have thought would require a dress rehearsal.
"Long time," Stabler says softly.
Olivia reaches for him under the table. She's discreet about it, but Mark can tell her hand has just landed on his knee, and it's not going anywhere.
"It's a long story," she says, and then she switches gears. It's a fascinating deflection. "I want to thank you for coming," she tells him then. "I wanted to get to know the man who's gonna be watching his back. But I wanted to wait until I knew he hadn't scared you off."
"He got a history of running off partners?"
She laughs, Stabler doesn't.
"What's the record?" He asks. He wants to know if it's true, if Stabler really doesn't work with anybody for long. There's another long, strangely communicative glance between the pair of them.
"Thirteen years," she says, very softly. Stabler reaches for her hand and kisses the back of it gently.
"Lucky thirteen," he says.
Holy shit, Mark thinks. They were partners. That's the story they don't wanna tell. They were partners for thirteen years, and now they're shacked up. It's kind of impressive.
"Mark says you have six kids," Kelly says then. She doesn't like being left out. "Is it just the two boys at home now?"
Benson's smile is a little forced. Under the table, Stabler covers her hand with his own, there against his knee.
"Yes," she says. Doesn't offer anything else. Like she's waiting for Stabler to decide how much he wants to tell them.
"My first wife-"
"Only wife," Benson says, so quietly Mark almost doesn't hear it. Stabler shoots her a wounded look. Apparently it's a disagreement they've had before.
"My first wife and I had five kids. She uh. She died. A few years ago. The older kids are grown. Maureen and Kathleen have kids of their own now. Dickie's getting married next year, Lizzie's…Lizzie. Eli's a junior this year. Liv adopted Noah when he was a baby."
It's a lot of information to take in all at once. He can tell that Kelly regrets asking. She thought it would be a safe topic of conversation; what mother doesn't want to talk about her children? She hadn't counted on the baggage. But Kelly is Kelly, and she is devoted to her optimism.
"You're like the Brady Bunch," she says.
Benson laughs out loud. Stabler relaxes, infinitesimally.
Mark can see it all in their eyes now, though. How Stabler was married to someone else, had five kids with someone else, while they were working together. How he lost her, how he grieved, how he and Olivia finally got together and made a home out of the wreckage but the memory of his wife lingers, and maybe Olivia isn't ready to assume the title she's always thought belonged to someone else. She'll live with him, fuck him, raise her kid with him - Liv adopted Noah, he said, no mention of his own involvement, like he wasn't involved at all - but she can't bring herself to be his wife. We'll get there, Elliot told him. He wonders if that's true. He feels kinda bad for the guy.

What seasons would the 5undy wedding and election episode happen
Ok.. Oooo good question...
When the series starts Dream and Fundy are dating and there’s the entire arc with Dream is cheating on George and there’s the whole wedding where Dream leaves Fundy at the alter...
I think that’d take like maybe 4 seasons.. the first season would introduce the relationship drama, the 2nd season we’d get more into it and the finale Fundy proposes to Dream and then there’s the 3rd and 4th season would be the wedding planning, the 4th season being more focused on the wedding planning and this season is where 5up is introduced and the finale of the 4th season would be the wedding and that’s when Dream would leave Fundy at the alter which is a 2 parter, end of the first part is the wedding and the second is the aftermath after Dream leaves
The season after that Fundy would show up occasionally, every time he’d show up he’d seem a little bit better... there would be some hints of him and 5up hanging out a lot more and their relationship build-up would be a nice 2 season slow burn until sometime during late season 6.. I’d imagine there is a carnival or fall festival of some sort and 5up and Fundy bump into the Chaos kids and they decide to have lunch with em’ and the kids are getting some romance vibes from the two...
and ya know what.. fuck it.. Scene time bitches.
Setting: the Chaos kids and 5up and Fundy are at the eating area of the fall festival, the eating area is under this huuugge open white tent and their table is right by one of the exits
Purpled, checking his bag: Hey, I think we ran outta tickets for games n’ stuff
Tubbo: What?!? No!!! There’s a tiny baby pig me and Ranboo have to save in an hour at the auction!!! Where did all of our tickets go?!?!
Tommy: erm... me and Lani maybe have used them all on rides...
Tubbo: You wh- Ranboo!!!
Ranboo, sighing: On it... *he stands up to leave* -Drista don’t eat all my fries..
Drista, while munching on food: No promises.
Tommy, to Tubbo: Pfft Gold digger..
5up, to Fundy: I think we’re low on tickets as well
Fundy, standing up: Oh don’t worry I’ll tag along with Ranboo
5up: You want me to come with you?
Fundy: Nah, it’ll only be a sec. Plus if these kids aren’t under any adult supervision they might burn the place down. *him and 5up both share a small laugh*
Crumb: Hey! >:(
Fundy, ina lighthearted manner: I’m not wrong though~
5up, laughing: okok just go...
Fundy and Ranboo leave and the rest of the Chaos kids are getting the vibes
Drista, casually to 5up: So are you two boning?
5up fucking chokes on his water
Tubbo: Drista he’s ace!
Drista: -oh my bad.. but like are the two of you still like dating or something?
5up, still hella caught off: Wh- n- no!
Lani: Really? Cause there was definitely something there..
Tommy: Yeah it was kinda painful to watch...
5up: No... nono.. no way.. *there is a small pause and his voice changes into a slightly hopeful tone* really?
Crumb: Oooooo 5up’s gotta crushhhhh!!!
5up: W- well I-
Tubbo: When are you gonna confess?!
5up: I- no... I’m not gonna
Purpled: What why?
5up: I don’t wanna potentially ruin our friendship... plus I wanna wait for him to be ready to be in another relationship even if I really did wanna confess to him... I want him to feel comfortable.. even if I do have to wait...
The camera then pans to Ranboo and Fundy standing right outside the tent walls, it’s implied they’ve heard almost the entire conversation. Fundy’s expression is a bit unreadable right now.
Ranboo, in a concerned tone: Fundy?
Fundy, his voice is a bit shaky but it’s still unclear what he’s feeling still: Let’s go..
Ranboo: I um... ok...
Fundy and Ranboo walk in, Fundy’s attitude completely changes as if everything was normal but Ranboo is still a bit worried.
Fundy: Ey! We’re back!!
5up, quickly whispering before Fundy can come close enough to hear: Don’t say anything!!! *he then turns to Fundy with a smile on his face* Hey!
Ranboo and Fundy sit where they were sitting before and the transition music begins to play
END SCENE
So pretty much after that Fundy starts to become a lot more awkward around 5up and it continues into the next season (I like to think the finale is a new years episode and Fundy almost confesses but something happens and the entire audience is like “nUUUU” cause i’m evil like that >:D)
But early in season 7 there’s the valentines day episode and that’s when Fundy confesses to 5up and it’s a really soft and adorable scene and they share the most softest kiss.. and ahhhhh typing this makes my heart explode.. and so then they’re dating!!! and the season after they get engaged! but like then they like wait like a few seasons, like in the end of season 10 prolly when there’s the scene where Fundy is like “dude we should get married already” and 5up is like “yeahhhhh”
AND BOOM SEASON 11 IS THE FUCKIN 5UNDY WEDDING!!
Oh the election episode is prolly like uh... season 3???? yeah.. season 3.

Marriage? Pass. - Peter Parker
Pairing: Financial advisor!Peter x Museum curator!Reader
Requested? Nah.
PP Masterlist
* * * *
"Good morning, Pete." You yawned before slowly sitting up. You glanced at your boyfriend as he just hummed in reply. He wasn't a morning person, but he had a demanding job that he's going to be late to if he doesn't wake up now.
You give Peter a light nudge and told him to wake up or he'll be late if he didn't start his morning routine now. Peter grumbled and slowly opened his eyes. He blinked a few times as he adjusted to the light and sat up. He turned to you and kissed your cheek.
"Good morning. Thanks for waking me up." He smiled sleepily at you with his messy bed hair all over the place. You giggled, "You're welcome. Go shower and I'll make breakfast."
"I know, I know." Peter smiled and got out of bed to go to the shower. You got out of bed too and stretched before starting your morning routine. You've been doing it for as long as you can remember. At this point, your movements are all muscle memory.
Your routine went like this: while Peter is in the shower, you fix your shared bed and charge his phone because he always forgets. Then, you take both of your empty glasses from your night stands and head to the kitchen. When you get to the kitchen, you put the glasses in the sink and prepare breakfast.
Breakfast was a little tricky because Peter didn't like having the same food everyday. Same goes for lunch and dinner. Thankfully, you already knew this and you made a schedule for every meal. Every night before you went to bed, you write down options for Peter and he would choose the next day. The schedule was written on a 6.5" chalkboard and it's placed on top of the kitchen island.
Tumblr media
You grabbed the chalkboard and quickly went to the bathroom and knocked. You knew Peter wouldn't hear you, so you shouted.
"Pete? What do you want for breakfast? Egg and bacon sandwich with coffee, a bowl of cereal, pancakes with orange juice or waffles with hot chocolate?" You asked loudly.
"Can I have waffles, but with bacon on the side? Also, I want coffee with that. Not hot chocolate. Thanks, honey!" Peter shouted back as you quickly wrote it down on the chalkboard.
"Gotcha. Love you!"
"Love you too!"
You smiled to yourself and went back to the kitchen to start cooking Peter's request. What he has, you also have. You didn't mind that Peter mixed up the breakfast choices. In fact, his taste buds are pretty helpful in grocery shopping. If he doesn't like it, you don't buy it anymore. It's pretty simple.
After cooking breakfast and setting the table, you prepared Peter's lunch. Since it was a weekday and both of you had jobs, all you had to prepare for Peter's lunch was the dessert which was cut up fruits in a small tupperware. You cut up a few fruits, put them in a tupperware, and put them in the fridge.
Just as you finished, Peter walked in and sat down. You sat across from him and both of you began eating. Peter didn't like talking while eating breakfast and you learned that the hard way. To fill in the silence, you connected your phone to a bluetooth speaker and played classical music which always relaxed Peter.
He looked at you and gave you a close-lipped smile. After all these years of being together, you knew his smile meant 'thank you'.
After breakfast, it was Peter's turn to do his part. He washed the dishes as you quickly went to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day. Peter knew you took your time in the bathroom that's why both of you wake up really early in the morning so both of you wouldn't be late.
After washing the dishes, Peter prepared your dessert for lunch. You didn't like fruits that much and you were allergic to a few of them, so Peter packed you chocolate pudding instead. After packing your dessert, Peter wiped the table clean, disconnected your phone from the bluetooth speaker, and went to your shared room to charge it.
After showering, you were still in a towel and you opened the bathroom door slightly for Peter to come in. Both of you brushed your teeth together and got dressed together. It was all fun and domestic and you wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
When both of you are finished dressing up, you both unplug your phones and go to the kitchen to get the desserts you packed before going to the living room to get your bags and put your shoes on. After that, both of you share a kiss before getting in your respective cars and driving to work.
That was your routine everyday for seven years. You met Peter in college. You just turned twenty and your friends took you to a nice restaurant that you've always wanted to go to. Peter was there with his aunt and his aunt's boyfriend when he saw you. With all the courage he gathered, he walked to your table and asked you out. The rest was history.
"Good morning, Y/N!" Becca, your colleague, said with a playful smile on her face. You chuckled and said, "Good morning! What's got you so smiley and happy today?"
You signed in and put your things on your desk and sat down. Becca stood in front of your desk and grabbed a pen. "I hope you don't mind if I borrow your pen." Becca giggled and raised her left hand where the pen was.
You looked at the pen she was holding and did a double-take when you saw a pretty engagement ring on her finger.
"Oh my god." You said in shock. You stood up from your seat and grabbed her left hand. "Oh my god." You repeated.
"I know!" Becca shrieked. "I'm engaged!"
"You're engaged!" You squealed. "Yay! I'm so happy for you!" You pulled her in for a hug before looking at the ring again. It was so gorgeous.
"He proposed last night." Becca gushed. "I honestly still can't believe it."
"That's so amazing. I'm happy for both of you!" You exclaimed and sat down again. Becca took a seat in front of your desk and asked, "What about you and Peter? I thought you guys would get engaged first, to be honest. You've been together for so long. Meanwhile, Heath and I have been dating for only three years. You guys getting married soon?"
You knew it was an innocent question, but it was a touchy topic for you. It wasn't that you didn't want to get married. You did; you truly wanted to marry Peter and you were ready. You've been ready five years ago.
Peter was the problem. He didn't want to get married. He told you that one morning on your fourth anniversary when you both saw someone propose in public.
"Hey, Pete?"
"Hmm?"
"You ever thought of getting married?" You asked softly as both of you walked hand in hand in Central Park.
He looked at you for a second before looking ahead. He shrugged and said, "I'm not really into the whole marriage thing, y'know? Besides, why do people have to make such a big gesture to show people that they're going to be with one person for the rest of their life? Like, I'm really happy with what you and I have and I can see us lasting for a long time and we're official for four years now and we will be official for as long as we're together. So, why do we have to make things official again, but with a piece of paper this time?"
"Marriage has a lot of shit, babe. Trust me. There's a pre-nup thing and planning so many things that wouldn't matter in the end because who the fuck cares about centerpieces, anyway? It's literally a thing for each table with the table number on it. It'll just be looked at for, like, a second and then it wouldn't be paid attention to anymore. Plus, weddings are hella expensive. The national average cost of a wedding dress is about one thousand and six hundred something dollars and that includes alterations already. BUT- dress prices are based on a lot of factors and they generally range from five hundred dollars to four thousand dollars. And that's JUST the gown for the bride. What more if they add the venue, the decorations, the dresses for the bridesmaids, the tuxes for the dudes, the fuckin' flowers, and a whole lot of other shit?" Peter rambled.
You nodded. He made a few valid points, but to you, marriage is the life goal.
"Why'd you ask? You planning on marrying me?" Peter joked.
You smiled a bit and shook your head, "I just wanted to ask because someone proposed a while ago."
"Phew! I thought you were going to ask." Peter laughed. He put his arm around you and kissed the top of your head, "I'm happy with what we are now and I love you. I don't need to show other people that."
"I love you too, Pete." You said quietly.
You looked at Becca and said, "Me and Peter? Getting married? Um, no. I don't- I don't think so."
"What? Why not?" Becca furrowed her eyebrows. "Both of you have been together for so long! You guys should seal the deal now."
"Marriage isn't really Peter's thing." You explained.
"Is it your thing?" Becca asked and you sighed and nodded. "Then, tell him!"
"No way, Becca. He's just going to say the same shit he told me on our fourth anniversary." You said and fixed the papers on your desk.
"Maybe he changed his mind?" Becca suggested.
"Nope. I've known Peter for so long and one thing about him is that he never changes his mind, EVER. Once he says something, he just does it. His motto in life is literally 'practice what you preach'. Hence, not changing his mind." You let out an exasperated sigh.
"Look, Becca, I appreciate your concern and all, but it's not happening." You smiled sadly. "Don't worry about me and Peter, okay? Just worry about planning your wedding because that'll take up majority of your time."
For the rest of the day, you couldn't focus on curating at all. In fact, you nearly messed up some words. In truth, you haven't thought about marriage since your fourth anniversary and now that Becca's mentioned it, you couldn't get it out of your head.
It wasn't wise to contact Peter during his work hours because he dealt with clients who didn't know what to do with their money and stuff. He also didn't want to be bothered while he was at work. Besides, it gave you both something to talk about at dinner.
When you got home, you did your night routine. You went to your room and got dressed in comfortable clothing. Knowing Peter was on his way home, you took out your phone and called him.
"Hey, honey." Peter answered. "I'm glad you called! Listen, don't cook anything. Relax and watch tv or something. I bought dinner for us from the restaurant where we met."
"What? That's so out of budget, Peter. We only eat there once a year and that's for our anniversary." You said in worry.
"Yeah, I know, but we really shouldn't worry about spending. I'm literally a financial advisor." Peter chuckled. "Also, I just got a raise."
"Wow!" You smiled. "Tell me all about it when you get home, alright? I don't want you getting in a car accident or something."
"Will do. See ya later!" Peter hang up. You looked down at your phone and sighed. You took Peter's advice and relaxed while waiting for him. You drew yourself a bath and got in. About thirty minutes later, you heard the front door open and Peter shouted, "I'm home! I brought food!"
You got out of the bath and drained the water in the tub. You dried yourself and put on your bathrobe before meeting Peter in the kitchen. He was setting the table and he smiled at you, "Hey beautiful."
"Hey handsome." You chuckled. "Thanks for buying dinner. I appreciate it."
"You're welcome! It's no problem, really. It's a thank you for dealing with my shit and for cooking for me all the time. God knows I can't cook, so hopefully surprising you with food from the restaurant where we met is enough to make you happy." Peter said and walked up to you to pull you in for a hug.
You hugged back, "I do those things because I love you, Pete."
"I love you more." He kissed your forehead and urged you to sit down. Both of you sat down and Peter started talking about his raise and his client who didn't know what an insurance was. Everything was going swell, but you couldn't get the marriage thing off your mind.
"Becca's getting married." You blurted out. Peter stopped talking and looked at you. "She, uh, Heath asked her last night and she said yes."
Peter nodded and smiled, "Good for her! They've been together for so long now."
"Do you think we'd get married too?" You asked him.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Do you think we'd get married too?" You repeated. "We've been together for seven years now and I think it's time for us to get married and start a family. We're not getting any younger, Pete. We're 27 years old for fuck's sake."
"Y/N, you know where I stand in marriage, right?" Peter said. "I'm not into that kind of shit. I thought we were on the same page?"
"No and I'm sorry!" You sighed. "I want to get married and I want to get married to you. Otherwise, I won't get married at all. I want us to move out of this apartment and buy a house where our kids can run around and play."
"Then let's start a family!" Peter exclaimed.
"I want to do it right, Peter!" You argued. "I want us to get married first and then have as many kids as you fucking want. But first, I want to walk down the aisle and say my vows to you. I want that, Peter."
Peter looked at you and sighed, "Then maybe I'm not the guy that you're looking for. We obviously want different things and I can't give you what you want."
"Are you breaking up with me?" You asked in shock.
Peter nodded, "Yeah, I am. I can't be a husband and you deserve someone who can be. I'm sorry." With that, he stood up from his seat and went to your shared room to pack his things in a duffel bag. You stayed in the dining table with your head in your hands. You really didn't expect him to break up with you.
Peter walked out of your shared room and approached you. You looked at him and he bent down a bit to kiss you one last time before he left.
"I'm sorry things had to end this way." He mumbled. "I love you and I'll always love you for as long as I'll live. But I also want you to be happy and if getting married makes you happy, I'm willing to let you go just for that to happen."
"But I want to get married to YOU." You cried.
"In another life, I want to get married and I want to get married to you. But this is the life we have, okay? I'm still going to be here for you. So if you need me, I'll be staying at May's, alright?" He said sadly and kissed your forehead before leaving.
It had been three months since your split with Peter and everything has been going downhill for you. Becca was so into wedding planning and she kept asking you for help. As if things were not worse for you, your younger sister recently got engaged too. Some of your Facebook friends were either on their honeymoon, having their first baby, or walking down the aisle already. It frustrated you BIG TIME.
To top it all off, your mom (who wasn't in the picture since forever) came back because she heard that your little sister was getting married and your dad had a heart attack. Thankfully, he was okay. He's just resting now.
You were at your childhood home and you were having a stressful time. You were taking care of your dad and no one was helping you around. Your little sister was busy planning her wedding and her husband-to-be was a slacker and he doesn't clean up after himself at all. Your mom was staying in the guest room and she was so demanding and she was such a picky eater and she nagged to you about how you should settle down now. You were so stressed and you were on the verge of a breakdown and all of a sudden, the A/C stopped working.
That set you off.
You locked yourself in your old room and just cried. You cried until you fell asleep. When you woke up, it was already the next day and you heard commotion downstairs. You walked to where the noise was coming from and it was coming from the living room; where the A/C was broken.
You peeked in and you were surprised to see Peter fixing the A/C. Your mom saw you and said, "Y/N! Good morning, sweetie. This is Peter. He fixed the A/C and guess what? He's single! Maybe-"
"Mom, Y/N knows who he is." Your sister rolled her eyes.
Peter held on to the ladder and looked at you. He saw your puffy eyes that were still slightly red and he saw bags under your eyes. He also knew that you were really tired.
"Really? How do they know each other?" Your mom gushed.
"They dated for 7 years. Let's just leave them alone. They need to talk, anyway." Your little sister said and gave you a small smile. She and your mom left the living room and Peter got down the ladder and walked to you.
"I'm, uh, sorry for coming here. You probably didn't want to see me, but Y/S/N gave me a call about the A/C. She asked if I could fix it because I was into, and I quote, 'machines or whatever'. So I came by and I really didn't expect you to be here." Peter said, but you just stared at him.
He cleared his throat, "Also, all the dishes were just left in the sink. I washed them all, though. I hope it's less work for you. The A/C's fixed now, by the way. If it breaks again, I suggest you just buy a new one. There's this brand that-"
You cut him off by giving him a big hug and you just cried. You were so tired and Peter hugged back tightly and said, "You're alright. You'll be fine."
"I missed you." You cried. "I missed you being by my side and the apartment feel so empty now that you're gone. I just want you back. Life was super easy with you in it."
"But-"
You pulled away and shook your head, "I don't care anymore. If you don't want to get married, I respect that. Let's just be partners for life, okay? I'll be fine with that just as long as I have you in my life; that's good enough for me."
"Okay." Peter nodded and smiled.
"Okay?" You asked.
"Okay." He chuckled lightly. "I love you."
"I love you too." You smiled and wiped your tears.
Peter's job was tiring. A few weeks after he had gotten back together with you, he was getting busier and busier. Today, his client asked him if they still had savings from when they got married. Peter was looking through the said client's files as the client kept talking.
"Why'd you get married?" Peter asked nonchalantly.
"If I'm being honest, I didn't want to get married." The client chuckled. "But life is funny. I met someone and for some reason, everything changed. Sure, we could've stayed as just long time partners, but being married takes it to a whole 'nother level, y'know?"
"In marriage, couples share things and they start a new chapter in their lives. Whereas if you're just living with your partner in an apartment, that's just it. It's hard to explain. It's similar to long time partners, but at the same time it's not." The client shrugged.
It was then and there that Peter understood marriage. He looked at the client and said, "I'll call you when I find your files, okay? I just remembered that I have to do something."
Peter got out of his seat and told the receptionist that was taking an early lunch break. He walked to his car and quickly unlocked the door and drove to the art museum where you worked.
When he got there, he parked his car and locked the door before running inside. He looked around and saw you curating a tour for grade school kids. He didn't want to bother you at work, but this was really urgent. So, he took a deep breath and walked right up to you.
"Y/N!" Peter said. You looked at him in shock. You turned to the kids and smiled, "Feel free to look at the painting, but don't touch anything."
You turned back to Peter and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"I change my mind." Peter blurted out.
"What're you talking about?" You were confused.
"The whole marriage thing. I change my mind." He said. "Yes, marriage has a lot of shit, but I'll have you for the rest of my life and that's so rewarding. We can get married, buy a house, start a family, you name it! We've been together for 7 years- I'm not counting the three-month break up because I know that I still loved you during that time. I love you more than anything in the world and I want to show you that I love you for the rest of my life. So-"
He knelt down and your eyes widened.
"Oh my god. What're you doing?" You whispered.
"I think I'm proposing." Peter said quietly and he grabbed your hands. "Y/N, will you marry me? I know I don't have a ring right now, but that can wait. I-"
"Yes." You tear up. "Yes, I will marry you!"
Peter smiled and stood up to kiss you. Everyone around you clapped and you both pulled away. You rested your forehead on his and he said, "I have to go now. I have to get back to work and I have to buy you a ring."
"I love you, Peter."
"I love you, Y/N."
