CW: rape So I never paid too much attention to the donations when dealing with my license until my Big Lemon let me know about this one. It helps fund to rape kits that are sitting in backlog to finally be tested. Texas has made strides in this with getting grants and such but even still there are over 6000 still untested. Women reporting a rape are often encouraged to undergo a grueling and invasive examination to collect DNA and other physical evidence. The process can take several hours, and involves poking and prodding and swabbing and questioning as medical professionals take samples from the parts of the victim's body that the rapist touched during the assault. Often, there is good reason to go through this difficult procedure; the evidence gathered can be important to the building of a criminal case. If the attacker's identity is unknown, DNA can be matched to databases to search for possible suspects. Investigators can also use the evidence to link attacks on different women to the same perpetrator, discovering serial rapists who might otherwise go undetected.
