Encanto (Rewrite) - Here to Casita! -
EXT. RAINFOREST - NIGHT
After running through the woods for several hours, the trio stop at a bridge over a dry riverbed in front of a sign shaped like Abuela Alma pointing to the right. The sign reads “TO CASITA. Where all your wishes and dreams will come true.”
MIRABEL
We’re almost at Casita. Star, we’ll need to be very discreet.
STAR
Discreet? Got it. Sounds like another plan. I’m getting pretty good at this planning stuff.
MIRABEL
Um, you know what might help that plan, if you weren’t so bright?
STAR
Ohh, thank you. Oh wait, you meant—
MIRABEL
Shiny, glowing, way too much light. Turn it down, turn it down!
STAR
Oh, oh!
Star concentrates and the light from his body slowly fades until he looks like a regular white horse.
STAR
Better?
MIRABEL
Much—
Before they could cross the bridge, they are stopped by a hooded figure riding a black horse. Star tries to pretend to be a normal horse by neighing.
STAR
Neiigghh.
The black horse neighs back and much more aggressively. The hooded figure stops in front of them and reveals herself to be Abuela.
ABUELA ALMA
I had a feeling someone might pass through here?
MIRABEL
Abuela.
The guards on horseback appear from behind the trees to surround Mirabel on both sides.
MIRABEL
(WHISPER) Star, remember the thing I just told you not to do? I’m going to need you to do it. Now.
Star becomes so bright that everyone around them has to recover from the sudden flash, giving the heroes enough time to jump from the bridge and run down the riverbed. Abuela quickly recovers and orders the guards to chase after them.
ABUELA ALMA
Don’t let them get away!
Star jumps out of the dry riverbed and into the rainforest.
STAR
W-h-hoa! Look at me go! I had no idea horses could move this fast! I mean their eyesight is trippy but…
Star moves his eyes from the side of his head to the front.
STAR
Ah yeah, that’s better. I wonder if I could go even faster!
Star spontaneously grows four more legs, making him faster but also wobblier. Mirabel’s pleas to be more careful go completely ignored as Star revels in his newfound burst of speed.
STAR
Why would humans ever walk on two legs? This is so much easie–
Star trips and falls and Mirabel tumble over him.
MIRABEL
Ah! Get up! Run!
Mirabel run for their lives as the guards catch up with them. Star shapeshifts into a squirrel, hopping on and riding.
STAR
Up we go!
Abuela and the guards chase Mirabel into a bunch of trees, where she manages to lose them. Abuela then appears right in front of Mirabel.
ABUELA ALMA
I got her!
Instead of stopping, Mirabel slides right under her horse, making it stand up and throw Abuela off of it. Abuela glares at her runaway granddaughter and Mirabel glares back as she keeps running.
Star jump over Abuela and try to reach Mirabel. Star turns to look at Abuela before changing his head to a horse’s head and neighing at her. Abuela growls in frustration.
Star laughs at this before turning to see two of the guards closing in on Abuela.
Star conjures an acorn shell and wears it like a helmet. Star jumps off as he turns around and kicks him as hard as he can.
STAR
Get me to Mirabe-llLL!
Star soars through the air, taking on a variety of forms, from a rhino to a chicken to a snowman until finally turning into a turtle. Star goes inside his shell and spins around, smacking the guards on their helmets. The guards stop to reorient themselves while Star flies towards Mirabel.
STAR
Mirabel! I’m coming for you!
Star lands on Mirabel facefirst, making them tumble around for a few seconds until Mirabel was awkwardly sitting on Star’s shell while Star tried to run away from the guards while still a turtle.
STAR
(GROANING) I really thought these would be faster.
Star turns back into a horse as catches up with them. As Star continues running. Mirabel lets out a laugh, thinking they’re finally safe, only to see Abuela and the guards gaining on them. She turns around to Star’s front only to see that they’re rapidly approaching a cliff.
MIRABEL
Careful! The cliff!
STAR
Oh, yes! I love that idea!
MIRABEL
Wait, no! Bad idea! Terrible idea!
STAR
For real horses, but not for me!
Star leaps off the cliff with Mirabel in tow. She screams while Star yells in exhilaration.
STAR
Ya-hoo-hoo-hooey!
Mirabel continue screaming as Star grows a pair of wings and wraps them around her, cushioning their impact when Star hits the ocean below.
Once under the water, Mirabel opens her eyes to see Star in the middle of transforming. Right now, he is a swirling mist of glowing energy surrounding them. In spite of the tense situation they’re in, Mirabel can’t help but feel calm and happy at that moment. She sees Star offer her his hand and she takes it. She looks at his smiling face within the sphere and could just tell that everything is going to be okay.
Back at the cliff, Abuela and the guards stop just in time before falling over the edge. They look over and don’t see even a trace of our heroes.
GUARD #1
They’re gone!
Abuela raises a hand to silence him. Still observing where they fell to see if anything would change. Sure enough, a golden glow shines from under the water and a shining dolphin leaps out with Mirabel riding on top of it.
MIRABEL
Woah!
Abuela looks at the scene baffled while Star swims the heroes to safety. Mirabel is smiling and laughing now that they’re safe.
Mirabel looks down and sees that Star is releasing more stardust into the ocean. He touches the water only for two real dolphins to appear beside and swim alongside them.
At the ocean floor, all kinds of sea life from fish to crabs become covered in stardust and swim up towards them. They also begin jumping out of the water. Mirabel laughs and smiles at the whole scene.
She looks down and sees that all of the sea creatures are giving her her own show, taking on the formation of a fish as they swim underneath her.
She then hears a low, loud noise and turns to her right to see a whale appear right beside her. The whale shoots water out of his blowhole, soaking the trio more to their delight. Mirabel looks directly into the whale’s eye.
The whale and all the other sea creatures dive back into the ocean. As its tail fully descends, Casita becomes visible in the distance. Mirabel smiles at the sight, they finally made it!

Bruno's vision didn't see the whole picture. Sure, it saw the cracks on the walls of Encanto, but it didn't see the very thorns that were once controlled by the lovely Isabella causing it.
It showed Maribel standing in front of the house, but it didn't show the power that she now held... but now, as her family stared at the young woman in fear, cowering away from her, it was more than clear that it was too late... they were doomed, and there was no one to blame but themselves.
However, something - no, someone completely unexpected came to protect the family. The only member still with their power. The very same one that had been shunned until he disappeared.
"Bruno!"
"We don't talk about-" Abuela's face was shoved forward to catch sight of her only son's face, making her gasp. "Hijo!" She gasped. He put a finger to his lips and indicated his niece silently.
Maribel's face snapped back to where everyone was gaping, but her uncle had disappeared...
"Ah-ah," she tutted, waggling a finger at her family. "We don't talk about Bruno."

Hear Me Out: The Disney Situation
Tumblr media
I think what Disney is not getting and the reason they’re failing happens to be that they’re trying to make good films.
I’m a writer. I’m currently working on my debut novel. My main motivation, my main goal in this endeavor isn’t to write a good novel. It’s to make art. That is what the older Disney films taught me. They didn’t make good films, they made art. Even some of the recent films they’ve released (Tangled, Encanto, Inside out, Moana) seemed to care more about being an artistic masterpiece than a good film. They knew what they wanted and went after it.
Wish was a painfully obvious sign that Disney has forgotten how to make magic and has traded that in exchange for a little extra cash. They’ve forgotten how to be creative. Their movies are failing because that Disney magic has been utterly destroyed. Bulldozed for profit, and it’s blowing up in their faces. They’ve forgotten how to make artistic stories and are recycling old ones to save some money and time.
That seems to be the killer of Disney Animation Studios. The lazy and frugal approach to filmmaking.

Alma Madrigal, a strong woman who lost everything in one night, that she fought the wrong people to not lose everything again. How did she become this way? How does one cope with the loss of her home, her family, her husband, and carry the burden of a gift so powerful that it moved mountains. How does anyone amount to that kind of pressure? We follow Alma's pov of what her life might have been like before the events of the movie, and how she copes with it now to become a better woman.
And so it begins! I'm currently writing a POV fic of Abuela from Encantó and got the first chapter down. It mostly focuses on what her life could've been like before the movie and how she becomes the woman we see in the movie. Hope y'all stick around for more!

wish rewrite but Queen Amaya has a minor influence on the plot, aka: Divorce arc! + Bonus song context changes
(it sucks that a person with so much potential was put in the story but just utilized as the Villain's sounding board. You could have replaced her with an animal sidekick! She could have been a classic evil cat! Anyway.)
Tl:Dr: Amaya and Magnifico's relationship is utilized more in the movie for both plot and character development.
Plot: the same but Amaya is having a mid life crisis and relationship issues with Magnifico, giving them both more depth than "childhood trauma made me a control freak + evil book possession" and "I'm the indicator that something is going wrong with my husband".
(tw: verbal and emotional abuse tactics.)
Movie opens on a book. It's not adorned or flashy, just a simple journal. Amaya is writing in it, narrating.
Teen Amaya arriving on a boat with a small group of people. She looks up, enraptured by the stars but no one else does and she's left alone. There's no voice, but you can see that she says "I wish". Then someone calls for her and she leaves. The next night Magnifico appears from the forest, performing magic.
Then we get "City of Rosas" montage going through years. Amaya as the singer, giving the tour. You see the 7 friends interact with her as quick help, then Asha pops up, first next to Amaya then taking over the tour guide spot.
There's a quick establishing walk around the Castle. Amaya checking in on the 7, the servants and people. Everything is going well! The Castle is humming along perfectly! Amaya doesn't need to lend a hand, or explain what's needed. She's a bit of a workaholic and doesn't know what to do with herself.
She ends up in the kitchen with the 7 and Asha. Dahlia gets a check in, her new medication is working well so she's just got her crutch today instead of a full wheelchair. Asha is told "you care plenty, but don't let it blind you." Asha is the one who says that her grandpa Sabino is having his 100th birthday. And wants his wish granted.
Simon is sleepy, everyone is concerned. Amaya excuses herself.
She goes to Magnifico. "Mi rey. You need to give Simon's wish back. He's not well."
"You mean grant it? what do we need Knights for? We're perfectly safe!"
And with Sabino - "there's nothing that needs changing! I'm all the inspiration the Kingdom needs!"
There's hints that Magnifico doesn't like people too much. "we have to keep these safe. They are the best parts of our people." Implying that he just likes what he can choose and control out of people.
And cue "At all costs" as a duet between Magnifico and Amaya. Starting as a love song addressed to Amaya, but then his focus shifts to the Wishes. Her face falls as she realizes that he won't do what she asks. And she leaves.
(what happens when your picture perfect life falls apart? When the job you have chosen, put your whole body and soul into, doesn't need as much time or effort? When the person you love, that you have partnered with for over several decades, doesn't have the same goals you do anymore? Doesn't value you like they used to?)
Only to find Asha was eavesdropping the whole time. "Wait. Are you. Having an argument? I thought you were happy?"
"we are. It's just difficult right now. It's a disagreement. We're fine."
Cut to Asha in the kitchen gathered with the 7. "They are not fine." So. Lighthearted scheme to get the Queen and King back in love by setting up a romantic date.
The lunch date fails. Amaya asks questions, probing more into Magnifico's self serving logic. He launches into "This is the Thanks I get?" (Less of a solo tantrum, more of a mocking dialogue between them.) And shuts her down. Amaya is stricken.
"if they break up, who gets the Wishes? Who's in charge? I don't think divorce is a thing that Royalty goes through!"
They retreat - Magnifico to a wish granting and Amaya to the kitchen. Asha wants to convince Amaya to keep going, keep pushing for the wishes.
"Has he always been like that?"
"Magnifico - oh he always wanted an audience. He hasn't changed since the day we met. He was fun. We needed that support, people who believe in him, in our rule. back then, when there were so many unknowns."
"But it's not back then anymore. We deserve our wishes. Maybe if we can show him that a dangerous wish won't be so bad, he'll come around!"
"Asha, don't tell me-"
"my Grandfather Sabino! He just said wanted to play the lute, right?"
"not exactly..." Amaya felt the true nature of the wish, to inspire.
"what more time does he have! My father already lost out on his wish! I'm not letting anyone else lose!"
"this is what I can do. For now. Go home."
"I can't wait for this change. Until I'm 18? Then what? I'm just supposed to give up my wish like everyone has? Be like Simon?"
Amaya doesn't have an answer to that. Asha goes home. She talks to her family and has her solo "This Wish" song.
The Star shows up. But as in the concept art, it's a mute boy! He starts the animals singing "You're a Star" - and eventually joins in once he gets the hang of talking. "Here I are!" Is his first line.
Once that's over, Star explains. "The Stars grant Wishes. Sometimes they come down to help out personally. But that was a while ago. I want to find them, but you're the first person in a long time to make a wish on a star." They make a plan to release the Wishes themselves.
Meanwhile, Magnifico and Amaya see the light show from Star coming to the Kingdom. Amaya has vague recognition, Magnifico is mad. "Absolutely not. No one is stealing my Wishes from me."
Amaya takes this time that he's distracted to find Simon and Sabino's wishes. She sings a solo version of "Knowing what I know now" with more personal touches and she sends the wishes down the dumbwaiter.
Asha sneaks Starboy into the Castle. Gets her friends to help. They open up the dumbwaiter and find the wishes. Simon gets his back, starts to feel better. Asha grabs Sabino's and runs.
Magnifico starts to build up power. He gathers the town and tells them that there's a rogue magic user on the loose.
Asha brings the wish to Sabino. And he immediately starts to inspire people to question Magnifico. (Seriously. That was the easiest thread to follow through. And it didn't happen!!! What- who dropped the ball?)
Asha regroups with her friends. Does the full "knowing what I know now" song. Runs away to distract Magnifico while her friends release the wishes.
Star looks at Amaya - "your wish wasn't granted. There's a trick to it, if you want to hear." Amaya looks sad again.
Big courtyard confrontation. Magnifico has been absorbing Wishes to get more power.
"I haven't granted my first wish. A lot of them, actually. I won't leave." Magnifico stands his ground.
"unless I retract it."
"you won't." Magnifico laughs. "Who would love you? You're past your prime, far too bossy-"
"You. Wanted love?" Asha asks.
"I was younger than you are. I had lost everything. When I came here and looked at the stars, I thought I could have anything I wanted. And I wanted love. After everything that happened, I wanted love. That was only mine. But not like this."
"we love you. We see you. Even if you can't do magic or fix everything. We love you." Asha and the 7 say to Amaya.
So she reaches into Magnifico, pulling out her wish herself. Everyone sees that and starts to pull theirs from Magnifico.
And it leaves him as a slip of a silvery man. Star taps on him and Magnifico turns completely into his silver white star form. "That's where you've been!"
"so Stars can't stay on earth for too long or they'll go mad?"
"pfft. No. It's just this guy. C'mon let's get you some perspective." And Star takes him away into the sky.
It fades into a picture that Asha is drawing. Her and Amaya are making a book to explain what happened.
Amaya narrates the ending, telling us that it doesn't really end.
The 7 friends and Asha are made apprentices to Queen Amaya. Amaya starts to give the Wishes back, setting people up to achieve their dreams. Star pops back to say hi and go and grant more Wishes.
The handwritten book closes and Amaya stamps "Wish" on the cover with leather tools.
The end

In this current state of intoxication I realize that my thematic issues with the Steven Universe finale were reliant on projecting Pink Diamond onto Steven, and that it was all based on how it was pulled off- especially how easy it would have been to fix!
Change White Diamond’s pink lighting that makes it look like maybe Steven took control of her to being multicolored, making it more clear that she’s not had her abilities turned back on her, but rather whatever the flushing was supposed to symbolize (which I can kind of identify but can only gesture towards, perhaps not only because I am on drugs), and move “Change Your Mind” from its clumsy placement at the end, and make it play over White Diamond changing hers.
Then, have Sadie Killer and the Suspects play over the part that has the Off-Colors landing and meeting the Diamonds; then, the song ends after the fast version of the the scene with the Diamonds and the Off-Colors.
Everything is the same after that, minus the clumsy implementation of the song “Change Your Mind” into the show, so it ends with the reprise of the theme song.

Encanto (Rewrite) - Pico is a Star -
OSCAR
Thank you. Thank you so much, Mirabel. Having to pretend to care, having to snack at only my most desperate moments has been quite annoying.
He then turns and walks towards Julieta.
OSCAR
And waiting for you to hand over the star…
AGUSTÍN
Julieta!
The guard blocks Agustín in order to silence him.
OSCAR
..is making me unexpectedly hungry! Hmm, but perhaps I'll start with your mother's wish.
MIRABEL
(O.S.) Stop! Okay, okay! I'll give you the star!
In what may go down in Encanto’s history as the single greatest example of desperate times calling for desperate measures, Mirabel raises Pico over her head and presents him as the star. Oscar and the crowd look at Pico in astonishment and understandable disbelief.
ENCANTO CITIZEN #1
Is this a joke?
PICO
(WHISPER TO HIMSELF) I can do this, I can do this, I can do this! No! There's no way I can do this! (SHOUTING) People of Encanto!
ENCANTO CITIZEN #2
The toucan talks!
PICO
Hello, I come from the sky! I am here for you
Mirabel’s older sister and cousins could tell that the crowd still needs convincing so they decide to join in.
LUISA
Oh my goodness! It is the most beautiful star I’ve ever seen!
CAMILO
It’s a miracle!
DOLORES
Oh, this is amazing!
OSCAR
What game is this!?
PICO
Oscar! If you want me, first you have to free everyone's wishes!
Oscar doesn’t believe that Pico is a star.
OSCAR
That’s just the toucan!
To convince the crowd of his power, Pico calls to the animals.
PICO
WEEE!!!
And the animals answer. All over Encanto and even from the uncharted forest, dogs, mice, birds, fireflies, horses, goats, and all types of creatures from around the island stampede to assure the crowd of Pico’s power. An eagle lifts Pico from Mirabel’s arms as fireflies form into a star behind him. The audience marvels at Pico’s glory, fully convinced.
PICO
It's over, Oscar! You have no choice but to surrender!
Oscar smiles indignantly.
OSCAR
I have no choice.
Oscar uses his hand all the wishes he held hostage spin around before crushing into his hand. The crowd watches in horror as several of them giving them a sharp pain of grief and sorrow from broken hearts from the desolation in their hearts.
MIRABEL
Wha-! No!
The surge of power Oscar receives from eating all those wishes at once begins to transform him. He grows larger, so large that the staff, which was once more than a foot taller than him now only had the head poking out of his closed fist. Black hair covers his body as his shirt and shoes tear away as a result of his new size. The bottom of his jaw extends into an underbite with large canines jutting out of it. His legs bend and contort in a way that made them resemble a wolf’s rather than a person’s. Sharp, black horns grow from the top of his head and his eyes become entirely green. Even Bruno is horrified by Oscar’s transformation but Oscar himself relishes his new body and laughs in triumph over the power it grants him.
The guards see this and as they try to comfort those of them who have had their wishes destroyed, they realize that this has gone too far.
ENCANTO GUARD #1
We got to do something!
The remaining guards charge at Oscar who just swats them aside like flies. He turns to Mirabel with a massive grin on his face. His voice reverberates as he speaks.
OSCAR
You think I’m an idiot?! I have the power. I have your wishes! I will have the star! So where is it?
Mirabel is so terrified by what has just transpired that she can’t help but look at the lights coming from the top of the royal castle. Oscar follows her gaze as realization dawns on him.
INT. CASITA ROYAL CASTLE, THE STUDY - NIGHT
Back inside the study, all of the wishes and a myriad of seemingly random objects swirl around Star as he looks onto Isabela and Antonio.
STAR
I think it’s working! Maybe? Almost? We're so close! We just need one more ingredient!

My Take On Wish
I liked it. Now, it’s not the best. But it’s still pretty good in hindsight. They had a good idea, but they executed it poorly.
I think a big reason is the movie had such high expectations. It was the movie for the 100th anniversary, which is huge. But they had no time and no money. The movie feels rushed, there's so much that happens too fast in such a short amount of time. That brings me to my next point.
Time. This movie should have been longer. Of the most recent movies, like Turning Red, Encanto, Luca and Elemental, they run for about 1 hr and 35-49 minutes. But they don't feel rushed. Everything us spaced out and works, at least for the most part. Every movie has it flaws in run time. Wish runs for the same amount of time as Encanto; but it feels so much more rush. The movie should have been longer, and I feel like people wouldn't have been too made at an extra 20 to 30 minutes. It would've given a lot more to world and established things, and answer questions that were left unanswered.
Characters. They weren't bad! They had some good characters, and the designs were...good. I like them, and I can see what they were doing. Like Magnifico and Amaya, I really like their designs! Same with the teens (save for a few things, mostly color, but I digress). Valentino is cute, but I don't like how they gave him a deep voice. Asha and Star? They're ok, at best. Looking at the concept art in the book, there was SO much potential that they didn't use.
Asha looks a lot like Isabela. It's a running joke. But the closer I look, she looks too much like her. Literally, if you look in the book, you can see that she actually had a floral dress that seemed a little too similar to Isabela's. The thing is, she had a lot of other really good designs, which I used in the redesign below, among other things. Star, he's cute but...it's sad. He was so obviously going to be a love interest. AND YES DISNEY. IT'S OK TO HAVE A HEROINE FALL IN LOVE. I took one of his designs that nearly stuck and tweaked it a little. He still has a star form, for other purposes.
The songs. They were ok, but I'm sort of understanding the joke if "They were written by ChatGPT". They sound so empty? But when you listen to the demos they sound better. That brings me to "At All Costs". I heard it in the movie. It's sung by Magnifico and Asha, when it was so obviously meant to be sung by Asha and her love interest, which would have been Starboy. And the demo is actually really good.
For my redesigns? I changed quite a but on Asha. Her friends are supposed to be like the seven dwarves. So why in the world didn't they utilize Snow White for Asha? I'm not saying she had to be a carbon copy, but jeez, it would've been nice. In my design, I gave her a mix of other dresses she had in the book, changing it a bit to look like snow white's but still being original. I changed the colors, toning them to be more similar to Wish's colors.
Valentino stayed entirely the same. I saw that he was originally he was going to be much larger, pretty much grown. So, I took that and gave him a sister. They aren't really "siblings, Valentina was born way before Valentino, but he's always following behind her, so Asha deemed them "honorary siblings". And I mostly wanted Asha to have more animals around her, like Snow White.
Star is still Star, but he also has a human form. In my opinion, it wouldn't be very present until later in the story. The more tine he spends around Asha, the more he feels more comfortable using it to help Asha. And also, he wants to be like Asha. He loves humans, and watches them from the sky all the time. He may or may not be the North Star. I'm still debating.
Maybe I'll do more with other characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Story. I want to try a rewrite. Not now, cause I still have a bunch of Encanto that I'd want to finish, but definitely in the future. I may do more Wish posts on my designs and what I'd worldbuild with some ideas were:
Asha is already Magnifico's apprentice.
Magnifico used the book before he founded Rosa, and built Rosa to take people's wishes for his power under the guise of what he does in the movie currently. He keeps some wishes alive to grant them. No one knows, not even Amaya. Asha finds out. This means he's evil from the start and stays evil. No redemption. No return.
Wishes affect a person not just emotionally, but slightly mentally and sometimes physically. When ita given away, the person feel not just an emptiness, but also heaviness in their body physically.
Amaya is a bit more morally gray, being in Magnifico's side, and even helping him, but slowly shifting to Asha after seeing what he's doing.
Star plays a bigger role much earlier on. The Teens do as well. I feel like they had no character in the movie. Not even Dahila, who I do I love.
It's closer to Asha's birthday. So when she finds out about Magnifico, she's scared of losing her wish, and being unable to restore everyone else's that was already lost, like her Saba's.
Asha may or may not have a staff like Magnifico's. But like?? A training staff??
Magnifico may or may nit being trying to corrupt Asha with the book. She is subject to hus magic still, and sometimes it seeps into her mind, but Star is there to counter it.
Star is much stronger in terms of magic, enough to be on par, or almost on par with Magnifico.
TL;DR: I like Wish. But it has flaws. I wanna try my hand at a rewrite one if these days.

I did enjoy the movie but they had issues.
While Mirabel learns about the other family members' struggle it doesn't feel like she got equal understanding
Not enough screentime of the problems of Camilo, Pepa, Julieta.
They should've set the movie about a week (or 3 weeks, given the whole number 3 motif) after Antonio's ceremony. And Isabela's wedding dinner begins sooner.
The house breaking down completely is longer and more climatic. Maybe Antonio being stuck inside his room and Mirabel goes to save him.
And a lot of other stuff that I prefer stating in my future "Encanto Rewrite" in the future.
Say something bad about this movie!

Not pressuring you to do it, but would you ever consider redesigning the Encanto girls and Asha from Wish at some point in the future? I LOVE your redesigns and I’d be quite curious to see how you’d reimagine their designs.
I don't think so for Encanto. I like the clothing/character design in that movie and don't think I really have anything to add to that conversation. (Other than a long rant about modern CGI movies and texture/gradient uniformity that drives me a little crazy but that is a rendering conversation and not a costume design conversation.)
Wish on the other hand.... I thought Asha's design was fine... for a long time. I still think she's cute, and that her design is easily one of the most historically accurate in the Disney heroine lineup but... then I saw the movie and spiraled through the despair of wasted potential. So... the answer for Wish is... probably. But I'd really want to do a whole story rewrite and brainstorm about what we could have had. I'm really sad that it isn't a better movie. They had good artists and vocalists ready to go and someone up top squandered what could have been a new classic. I'm sad about it and at some point my muddled thoughts will come together about how I would have written it. I wanted better for Asha and I'm sad about it.
I've got a bunch of other things happening first though so we will see when inspiration has enough time to strike.

I'm really happy to hear that! I thought he was gonna be villain too, they way Disney hyped it up, but I have to say I love what we got anyway.
Also Cause now I can do this to you:

WE DO TALK ABOUT BRUNO!!! 😂
I see that you're a huge Encanto fan, but how big of a Bruno fan are ya? Cause the Rat Man has my heart and I need to fangirl about him to someone else-
Tumblr media
Oh I absolutely LOOOOVE Bruno, was obsessed with him when the movie first came out, then again, I was obsessed with the whole movie when it came out
Though, I had a confession, kind of an embarrassing one, before the movie came out I was really, really, really, REALLY hoping he was a villain, like, not a twist one or a redeemable one, just a straight up bad guy, because I was missing real Disney villains... Still am.
But oh well, glad I was wrong, because this movie was brilliant
