Encanto (Rewrite) - Pico is a Star -
OSCAR
Thank you. Thank you so much, Mirabel. Having to pretend to care, having to snack at only my most desperate moments has been quite annoying.
He then turns and walks towards Julieta.
OSCAR
And waiting for you to hand over the star…
AGUSTÍN
Julieta!
The guard blocks Agustín in order to silence him.
OSCAR
..is making me unexpectedly hungry! Hmm, but perhaps I'll start with your mother's wish.
MIRABEL
(O.S.) Stop! Okay, okay! I'll give you the star!
In what may go down in Encanto’s history as the single greatest example of desperate times calling for desperate measures, Mirabel raises Pico over her head and presents him as the star. Oscar and the crowd look at Pico in astonishment and understandable disbelief.
ENCANTO CITIZEN #1
Is this a joke?
PICO
(WHISPER TO HIMSELF) I can do this, I can do this, I can do this! No! There's no way I can do this! (SHOUTING) People of Encanto!
ENCANTO CITIZEN #2
The toucan talks!
PICO
Hello, I come from the sky! I am here for you
Mirabel’s older sister and cousins could tell that the crowd still needs convincing so they decide to join in.
LUISA
Oh my goodness! It is the most beautiful star I’ve ever seen!
CAMILO
It’s a miracle!
DOLORES
Oh, this is amazing!
OSCAR
What game is this!?
PICO
Oscar! If you want me, first you have to free everyone's wishes!
Oscar doesn’t believe that Pico is a star.
OSCAR
That’s just the toucan!
To convince the crowd of his power, Pico calls to the animals.
PICO
WEEE!!!
And the animals answer. All over Encanto and even from the uncharted forest, dogs, mice, birds, fireflies, horses, goats, and all types of creatures from around the island stampede to assure the crowd of Pico’s power. An eagle lifts Pico from Mirabel’s arms as fireflies form into a star behind him. The audience marvels at Pico’s glory, fully convinced.
PICO
It's over, Oscar! You have no choice but to surrender!
Oscar smiles indignantly.
OSCAR
I have no choice.
Oscar uses his hand all the wishes he held hostage spin around before crushing into his hand. The crowd watches in horror as several of them giving them a sharp pain of grief and sorrow from broken hearts from the desolation in their hearts.
MIRABEL
Wha-! No!
The surge of power Oscar receives from eating all those wishes at once begins to transform him. He grows larger, so large that the staff, which was once more than a foot taller than him now only had the head poking out of his closed fist. Black hair covers his body as his shirt and shoes tear away as a result of his new size. The bottom of his jaw extends into an underbite with large canines jutting out of it. His legs bend and contort in a way that made them resemble a wolf’s rather than a person’s. Sharp, black horns grow from the top of his head and his eyes become entirely green. Even Bruno is horrified by Oscar’s transformation but Oscar himself relishes his new body and laughs in triumph over the power it grants him.
The guards see this and as they try to comfort those of them who have had their wishes destroyed, they realize that this has gone too far.
ENCANTO GUARD #1
We got to do something!
The remaining guards charge at Oscar who just swats them aside like flies. He turns to Mirabel with a massive grin on his face. His voice reverberates as he speaks.
OSCAR
You think I’m an idiot?! I have the power. I have your wishes! I will have the star! So where is it?
Mirabel is so terrified by what has just transpired that she can’t help but look at the lights coming from the top of the royal castle. Oscar follows her gaze as realization dawns on him.
INT. CASITA ROYAL CASTLE, THE STUDY - NIGHT
Back inside the study, all of the wishes and a myriad of seemingly random objects swirl around Star as he looks onto Isabela and Antonio.
STAR
I think it’s working! Maybe? Almost? We're so close! We just need one more ingredient!

265th edit and this both my biggest reimagining of 3D characters to 2D characters. I had fun casting these ladies from Encanto. I am a bit bias but Dolores came out so pretty, but to be fair that character I find so adorable.

Not pressuring you to do it, but would you ever consider redesigning the Encanto girls and Asha from Wish at some point in the future? I LOVE your redesigns and I’d be quite curious to see how you’d reimagine their designs.
I don't think so for Encanto. I like the clothing/character design in that movie and don't think I really have anything to add to that conversation. (Other than a long rant about modern CGI movies and texture/gradient uniformity that drives me a little crazy but that is a rendering conversation and not a costume design conversation.)
Wish on the other hand.... I thought Asha's design was fine... for a long time. I still think she's cute, and that her design is easily one of the most historically accurate in the Disney heroine lineup but... then I saw the movie and spiraled through the despair of wasted potential. So... the answer for Wish is... probably. But I'd really want to do a whole story rewrite and brainstorm about what we could have had. I'm really sad that it isn't a better movie. They had good artists and vocalists ready to go and someone up top squandered what could have been a new classic. I'm sad about it and at some point my muddled thoughts will come together about how I would have written it. I wanted better for Asha and I'm sad about it.
I've got a bunch of other things happening first though so we will see when inspiration has enough time to strike.

Plotting out Disney's future: the Resurgence Era
Tumblr media
I had so much fun reimagining the renaissance era to now, so I thought I'd imagine Disney's future era--but I'm skipping the sequels for now; I'll probably add them to my revival era post (if I keep using Tumblr through the years). This post is unique however, since this isn't me placing it within my reimagining AU; this post is based on the real-life success (or lack thereof) of the Revival era. I chose this name because I feel like Disney realizes they haven't been pushing themselves as much with their stories recently, and they want to appeal to a fanbase whose been adoring their classic stories while still wanting to explore new subjects. I'm not gonna do the whole "they were successful" or anything; this is mainly just ideas. Just to note: I imagine pretty much all of these as musicals, even if that's not super realistic given Disney's release style. And please forgive me if my ideas don't vibe with the culture I wanted them to represent.
Tumblr media
Yaksha--Deciding to reinvest in fairy tales, Disney opts to revive "Gigantic," a take on "Jack and the Beanstalk." However, given that their last two musicals have explored Spanish themes ("Encanto" being Colombia and "Wish" being set in a Mediterranean country influenced by Spain), the idea that "Gigantic" is set in Spain is eventually abandoned. When Fawn Veerasuthorn is brought on as director, she suggests a Thai take on the story, with stories like "Sang Thong" and "The Twelve Sisters" as inspiration. The story follows a young man named Chaison (technically Chai Son) was raised by giants in his childhood. However, when some giants wish to conquer the land below (having been banished long ago), Chaison must play peacemaker in order to prevent a war. To better showcase the culture, Disney opts for a 2D approach, though they haven't gotten entirely back into the groove of using it. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Sweet Heart--Disney decides to try again with the director/screenwriting team of Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, as well as having Stephen Schwartz make the music to give it a renaissance feel. In it, the protagonists are fraternal twins, young adults whose designs are said to have been influenced by concept art from "Frozen" and "Tangled," with open admissions of the film's vibe being inspired by Disney Channel's "Gravity Falls." It's possible the names of the leads would be changed, but let's pretend we keep them the same here. Hansel would be the younger twin, much more optimistic and a bit naive, while Gretel is more practical, reeling from the loss of their mother and resentful towards their stepmother for wanting them dead. The witch would be very much inspired by Lady Dimitrescu, the Other Mother, and Winifred Sanderson, making for a scheming, unhinged, and occasionally funny villain. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Midnight Masquerade--Given the success of a 12-member family of "Encanto," the fairy tale of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" is the next focus for Disney, directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Originally thought to be adapted as-is, focusing on 12 sisters and an older (40s) solider, but eventually a mixture of executive and audience feedback led to certain script changes. The number of sisters is instead reduced to 6 to better focuses on the sisters as well as having more characters outside of the sisters, and the soldier is written as a young prince in his 20s (he's characterized as a bit cheeky and playful, but wise and somewhat neutral; he doesn't rat on the princess' magical world, and instead enjoys himself while he's there). The story focuses on the young man who is asked by the king to find out where his daughters go every night, and follows them to a magical land fraught with beauty and danger (pretty much the main concept of the story, more or less). The young man's dark hair and his love interest's red hair (inspired by Daphne Blake, specifically her portrayal by Sarah Michelle Gellar) could liken to a modern version of Ariel and Eric. For better or worse, for some reason I imagine Disney going for a radio-pop sound like "Encanto" and "Wish"--though I hope it's executed better than the latter. And for another weird reason, I imagine this film being set in France--albeit in a similarly vague way as "Beauty and the Beast." Needless to say, the title of the film is tied into the Disney doll line of the same name. Check out the full idea here.
(Not 100% sure if the art here is AI; just thought it was really pretty and wanted to use it as a visual aid)
Tumblr media
Weaver--Originally planned with a male protagonist, Disney opted to make the protagonist female in order to cultivate a similar response to "Moana." Similar to how the latter film was influenced by Fiji, Samoa, and Tahiti, this film takes influence from Guam, Kiribati, and Palau. The focus is on a young woman who ventures on a great adventure to find the spider of creation (inspired by the Kiribatu god Nareau) after a malevolent force begins to unravel the world. As you can see, the plot itself was inspired by "Moana," with execs guiding it that way for profitability. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Khoeli--Inspired by "The Boy with a Moon on His Chest," the story revolves around a young man named Khoeli, who ventures to find his birth father, a king who supposedly abandoned him as a child. Though on his journey, he must contend with obstacles that his wicked stepmother has put in his path to prevent their reunion. I could imagine music by Donald Glover and Kendrick Lamar, though concern about it sounding too urban instead of traditional might be a concern (I'm imagining a high fantasy setting, but perhaps it could be somewhat modern, taking cues from "Black Panther"). While billed as a Southern African-influenced story, the music and visuals do have panafrican elements, and Disney markets it as their modern "Hercules." I also like the idea that Khoeli's moons (a full moon on his chest, and crescents on both his shoulders) are the product of vitiligo; feels like it could be great rep for people if done well. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Crest--Based on the fairy tale of "Catskin," the story is about a young Native American woman with a cloak made of a giant Stellar's Jay. Given that Stellar's Jay is native to western North America, I imagine the tribe that our protagonist (who I'll call Ayamis) is from comes from that area, but this is still set in a fantasy setting, allowing for more flexibility when designing the culture. The giant cloak was given to her by her mother, who promised that it would help her in times of emergency by transforming her into whatever form was necessary at the time. Usually this just turns her into a normal-sized Stellar's Jay, and eventually she ventures to a new land after dreaming of protecting a white fox. Though this seems to be Letaiyo, the albino son of the local (Hopi) chief, who she falls in love after being appointed his spiritual protector. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Verdant--Inspired by "Gawain and the Green Knight," a young boy who fails to defeat the king of Spring is taken in and raised by him in order to learn the rules of chivalry, honesty and kindness, the things that make a true and honorable knight. It's a journey of self-discovery, of duality and different perceptions of morality and that there may not be such a true universal take on "right" and "wrong." The film draws on influences from Tomm Moore films, as well as having a bit of a classic Disney charm--gold to bronze era-charm, not renaissance charm (though that could also work). Check out the full idea here.
(Art by FaQy on deviantart)
Tumblr media
Rainstar--Influenced by the superhero craze, this film would focus on a female superhero with super strength and durability (generic powers, but it's the character who makes the powers, not vice versa), influenced by bubbly superheroines such as She-Hulk and Rogue. In the futuristic city (imagine a cross between Republic City and Gotham), she defends the town from outside threats, but recently she's been the target of a superhuman scientist (influenced by Mister Sinister as well as anime characters such as Fu and Deku) who wants to find out the origins of her powers, whether she likes it or not. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Kitsune--Let's assume Hayao Miyazaki is still alive and he's able to reach a compromise between maintaining a Disney vibe while allowing him significant creative control of the film he's directing. I don't know his style well enough to say whether this would be in his wheelhouse, but I'm thinking of a story about a man who ventures who find his missing wife after she is taken by mysterious fox-masked beings, using the fireflies to guide him on his journey. It could also include elements of the Japanese tale of Shippeitaro. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Charlie Bone--Based on an amazing (and underrated) series about a boy who discovers he can travel through pictures and goes to school with kids of other unique abilities, I'd love to see this adapted by Disney. I don't know if they'd want to age him up (he starts off as 11, so it almost gives off Harry Potter vibes) and whether or not they'd want to just adapt the first book, but in my own opinion, I feel like they could make a film that encapsulates the entire work, if they wanted, including details like discovering what happened to Charlie's father, Billy's terrible adoption, Emma's brainwashing, etc. Though I do think that the book series kinda buried the lead with the Red King (who ended up having a prequel series) as well as waiting a few books before we got to the REAL big bad. There's a lot to unpack, but I think they could condense it. Check out the full idea here.
Tumblr media
Kingdom Hearts--Kind of. The lore itself is too big for one film, but let's say Disney wanted a better anniversary film than "Wish" and was able to work out a deal with Square Enix, but only enough to use KH-original characters, not Final Fantasy characters. However, the directors decide that they don't want it to feel too gimmick-y, so they lean into original story elements with Disney motifs and references, with the story of Sora exploring different worlds being reinvented as the protagonist exploring his country in order to find his friends. While a bit of a downer, a plus side is that there's more focus on Anselm and his goals. And I'd be perfectly fine if they needed to get separate actors to do the singing (I want the OG speaking voices to return so bad!) Check out the full idea here.
Lemme know what you think! I'll probably come back to edit the details later, but lemme ask: would you watch these Disney musicals?

I'm really happy to hear that! I thought he was gonna be villain too, they way Disney hyped it up, but I have to say I love what we got anyway.
Also Cause now I can do this to you:

WE DO TALK ABOUT BRUNO!!! 😂
I see that you're a huge Encanto fan, but how big of a Bruno fan are ya? Cause the Rat Man has my heart and I need to fangirl about him to someone else-
Tumblr media
Oh I absolutely LOOOOVE Bruno, was obsessed with him when the movie first came out, then again, I was obsessed with the whole movie when it came out
Though, I had a confession, kind of an embarrassing one, before the movie came out I was really, really, really, REALLY hoping he was a villain, like, not a twist one or a redeemable one, just a straight up bad guy, because I was missing real Disney villains... Still am.
But oh well, glad I was wrong, because this movie was brilliant

1, 5, 6, 9-18, and 21-25 of the Spotify Wrapped ask, please?
This was from last year (har-de-har), but i'm answering it... within a month, i think? which is quite respectable.
Catchiest song: "Tacky", which is one of my favorite Weird Al songs in general.
Oldest song (by release date)/6. Newest song (by release date): This is not easily-accessible information, and i am too stressed/lazy (your pick) to look it up, sorry.
Favorite lyric of your #1 song: "Hearthstone" doesn't have any lyrics, so here's one from "I'm Going That Way" (from the Kentucky Route Zero soundtrack), which is #2. Just have the whole song, it's short and sweet:
I've heard of a land of joy and peace and wonderful life A beautiful place of mansions fair and skies so bright Where all who believe the Savior dear forever shall stay And having been saved by grace divine, I'm going that way
I'm going that way, I'm going that way Yes, dear, the Savior I adore is with me each day I'm clinging to Him, and never to stray Just singing praises all day long, I'm going that way
Well, glorious news I tell and sing as onward I go For those who are still astray in sin, my Savior may know I want them to sing that praise above some beautiful day For glory to Him who died for me, I'm going that way
I know I shall meet Him at the gate when trials are past I know I shall meet Him face to face in glory at last Oh, I believe that when we meet, "well done" He'll say While trusting the soul-redeeming love, I'm going that way
I'm going that way, I'm going that way Yes, dear, the Savior I adore is with me each day I'm clinging to Him, and never to stray Just singing praises all day long, I'm going that way
A song that was also in last year's wrapped: Alas, i didn't save last year's wrapped playlist (will not make that mistake again), so i can't say for certain.
Most famous/popular song (in your opinion): "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears has over 1.9 billion listens on Spotify, so i guess that one.
A song you feel should be higher up: Several!
"Wish My Life Away" by Laura Shigihara, "The Fly" by Rosie Tucker, "Pump Shanty" by The Mechanisms, and "Anchor - Reimagined" by Skillet get put on repeat pretty commonly when they come up on shuffle, so i'm not sure how none of them are in the top ten.
The song with the most peculiar sound (to you): "16 Seconds Pre-Death" from the Kaladin album. Appropriate, considering the context.
A song you think is underrated: I'd love to hear a cover of "Redwing" by Hem, which is a very sweet, pretty song, but there's like the music video, and that's it.
Most danceable track: "Perfect Duet", a cover of Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" by the Postmodern Jukebox, is pretty obviously a waltzing song.
A song everyone should know: "Baba Yetu" (cover by Peter Hollens and Malukah) is a beautiful cover of a beautiful song.
Saddest song: Hmm.
"Hearthstone" is my #1 song because i listened to it several times while writing a character death scene.
"Ghost" by Justin Bieber and "Samson" by Regina Spektor deal pretty blatantly with death.
"Even If" by MercyMe, "Begin Again" (cover by Megan Nicole, Alex Groot, and the Piano Guys), and "Wish My Life Away" are more hopeful than sad, but there's still the touch of bittersweet to them.
"Waterbound" by Dirk Powell, "Buildings" by Regina Spektor, and "Achilles Come Down" by Gang of Youths aren't necessarily about death, but they're about some pretty heavy subjects. "Surface Pressure" from Encanto, too.
A song that describes your year so far: Hahaha…
"Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift. "Surface Pressure" from Encanto.
The song you think will be in next year's top songs again: "Wish My Life Away" by Laura Shigihara
Shortest song: "The Waste's Mystery" from the Don't Escape 4 soundtrack
A track that makes you think of a specific color: I was going to be boring and say (honestly) that apart from "it has 'gold' in the title" or "its album color is red", i don't have an answer, but let's force some color associations with some songs i haven't mentioned yet.
"Starlight" by The Wailing Jennys -- purple
"In Love with Your Soul" by The Collection -- pink
"Three" by Sleeping at Last -- burgundy red
"Feel Invincible" by Skillet -- cobalt blue
A song that could be the soundtrack of a movie: "Megalovania" by Toby Fox.
Favorite lyrics of your #100 song: So, "Creepy Old Guy" is from the Beetlejuice musical, and takes place as the teenage protagonist prepares to marry a centuries-old demon. It's actually a set-up for defeating him, so she and her family are all pretending they are completely cool with this while constantly making snarky comments about the situation/old men marrying young girls in general. So you get lines like "Girls may seem disgusted/But we're actually just shy!" and "Have you guys seen Lolita? This is just like that, but fine!" which… don't really work out of context, but are pretty funny within it.
Thanks for asking!

Okaaaay! 'Week 2' of @encanto-extended-edition event!
Relationships...... (warning: a lot of words, I feel like I am coming up with the stuff on the go, but some pictures too! So please at least have a look at them!)
I am slowly reimagining Daniela's whole narrative and I want to focus on her having the time of her life :)
So, I thought that making her a part of a small chaotic friend group would be fun!
Daniela (left) and Dioselina (middle) are close neighbours, really old childhood friends and are really passionate about art, acting out their favourite books, etc. Bruno joins the group later.
Dioselina
Dioselina is a really huge support for Daniela. She lives on a farm and is used to manual labour from when she was little. Due to an accident, she loses her right arm but is still insistent on helping her parents and siblings. She is kind of stoic and brave, sociable and very confident. Dioselina is like a 'straight one' of the group, the voice of reason. She is more inclined to music than other art, but because she lost her right arm, she is not capable of playing musical instruments and is left (😉) with singing which she does really well.
Her deal with Daniela is that Daniela is 'the creative and crazy one'. As they are close friends, Daniela is comfortable to be her curious and impulsive self around Selina. They really enjoy talking with each other, they have the same sense of humour. And Selina keeps Daniela out of trouble :)
Tumblr media
Bruno
Bruno is introduced to Daniela by Dioselina. One day Selina went to him for a vision, than he almost had a breakdown because it was the third vision that had to do with the agriculture that day. Selina felt sorry for him and asked about the familiar book she'd seen on the shelf when she'd entered the room. They talked a bit and she left. She starts to visit him, they talk about the book and they get close really fast.
Bruno isn't really shy at this age. He is adventurous and gets really irritated that he has to do visions for everyone everyday (because they are good visions mostly). He has some friends at school, but most of them think he is weird, because he can infodump about books or future for hours and has no filter, so he sometimes says a lot of disturbing shit. His sisters love him and defend him against bullies, but they have too much responsibility. They skip school a lot and don't really share his interests.
So, when he meets the girls, he is over the moon. They share his interests, they listen to his rambles and come up with scenarios even crazier than he saw in the future 'movies' (whatever that means) and they don't 'censor' him. Of course, it takes time for Daniela to warm up to him, but she does eventually.
The group
As a group they are a menace really. Bruno is usually the one that initiates 'the troubles', Daniela supports him and makes it more unhinged and Dioselina is here to look at those idiots fail and then help them.
At first, they try to prevent Bruno's visions from coming true. As an experiment they try to not let old Señora Sevanna's favourite apple tree fall but they unknowingly trigger said vision and end up in trouble.
As Bruno is overly righteous, after some not good people asking for his vision, he asks the girls multiple times to help him take revenge. Daniela usually gets really agitated and they come up with a thousand plans to kill the guy, but Dioselina reasons with them and they instead steal his chicken or trick him into thinking his barn is haunted.
Also, I thought, one time, they try to make Bruno more popular. They fake some of his visions, Dioselina gossips around town that she had heard only good things from him, because his limit of good news is one vision a day, but it ends in the whole town standing in line and fighting to get Bruno's vision first.
With time they become less interested in the shenanigans. They gossip about their respective sisters and brothers, their friends from school, discuss their future. Daniela is the one that brings up 'adult stuff' on the group meetings. She hangs out with her brother and sister's friends sometimes and also found a dirty book in her siblings' room, though she doesn't know who it belongs to.
SO being high on the hormones and her mother disapproving her friendship with Bruno, they start a relationship, which ends fast. They aren't exactly ready for marriage (they are 16 and 18 come on), and Daniela doesn't want even to kiss Bruno. They decide to be friends, but after a year or two he falls in love with her and is low key miserable.
Tumblr media
(a first version of their group 'photo' in their 20-ies)
Tumblr media
(a second one, which is accidentally a Modern AU and look! they wear each other's colors!)
Okay, when they are 20-ish they still hang out. They love playing little pranks, but generally they have their own struggles and really miss hanging out every day.
Tumblr media
Bruno gives more bad visions with time and becomes more of a recluse. He still goes to town, sometimes they meet with Dioselina, he visits Daniela's workplaces (sometimes accidentally, sometimes on purpose). The girls are worried about him and try to cheer him up. In public spaces he is shunned and Bruno is very uncomfortable, even more when Daniela is almost screaming at people for being jerks and Dioselina tries to shut her up. In private Dioselina and Daniela end up having conversations that Bruno can't contribute to and he gets frustrated and leaves. The girls try to make things better by making the town not that feared of Bruno again, but fail. Bruno is hurt that he is a-
Oh no, it is sad again. Soooo, let's end here, before it becomes worse :)

Recently Viewed: Wish
Tumblr media
As a 100th anniversary celebration, Disney’s Wish is rather lackluster. While the studio certainly makes an effort to pay tribute to its extensive history and canon, a majority of the film’s various homages are utterly devoid of substance. A few supporting characters, for example, superficially resemble Snow White’s Seven Dwarfs—a shallow, vapid, insignificant Easter egg akin to the insufferably postmodern “jokes” found in the pop culture “parodies” that plagued the early 2000s (e.g., Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans). The screenwriters’ attempts at deconstructing classic fairytale tropes are moderately more successful. Reimagining “wishes” as aspirations is particularly clever, emphasizing the importance of actively pursuing one’s own goals, as opposed to passively waiting for them to be fulfilled by somebody else (such as Chris Pine’s delightfully villainous tyrant, who magically absorbs the desires of his subjects under the pretense of “protecting” them from the sting of failure).
Despite its generally serviceable premise, however, the movie is absolutely abysmal when evaluated as a musical. By my excessively generous count, it features approximately three decent songs—and that estimate includes a reprise. Several numbers are painfully generic, with lyrics so totally divorced from the context of the surrounding plot that they might as well be impromptu TikTok videos; others are so embarrassingly literalist that they essentially function as expository narration delivered via rhymed verse. There’s a conspicuous absence of even a single instantly iconic showstopper (like “Let It Go”, Frozen’s endearingly enduring earworm), nor do the composers do anything particularly creative with recurring leitmotifs (à la Encanto’s thematic pairing of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “What Else Can I Do?”).
Tumblr media
Perhaps most damning of all, Wish neglects to utilize the medium of animation to its full potential. I can, at least, admire its artistic ambitions; in principle, using computer-generated imagery to emulate traditional hand-painted cels is a novel idea (albeit not terribly innovative—it’s been done before, and with greater success). In practice, on the other hand, these inherently conflicting styles make the action appear unfinished, inexpressive, and visually dissonant. The uninspired boarding—which favors flat framing and inert compositions—only exacerbates this blemish; what good are the infinite possibilities of a fictional world constructed entirely from scratch if you’re just going to “shoot” it like an amateur recording of a cheap community theater production of Into the Woods?
Ultimately, Wish feels obligatory and perfunctory—a jumbled hodgepodge of half-baked concepts hastily assembled to coincide with the Walt Disney Company’s Centennial; unfortunately, the level of quality evident onscreen simply doesn’t measure up to the occasion. This is a multibillion-dollar corporation; it can afford to do better—and owes as much to its unwaveringly loyal fanbase.

Disney's "Moana" to Include Live-Action Reimagining, According to Dwayne Johnson
Tumblr media
A live-action remake of Walt Disney Animation Studios' 2016 blockbuster feature film Moana is already in production, according to Dwayne Johnson, who made the announcement in a recorded message from Hawaii today. Executive Chairman Bob Iger made the disclosure during the webcast of The Walt Disney Company's Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The new movie is made by Beau Flynn through Flynn Film Co. and Johnson, Dany, and Hiram Garcia through their Seven Bucks Productions. Auli'i Cravalho, who provided Moana's voice, and Scott Sheldon of Flynn Film Co. are executive producers. The production will also include Samoan-Americans Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Moana's screenplay was written by Bush, who also directed and co-wrote Disney's Oscar-winning Encanto and co-wrote Disney's Oscar-winning Zootopia (2016). Similar to its animated predecessor, which earned nearly $644 million at the global box office and was one of the Top 15 movies streamed in the U.S. in 2022, the live-action remake of Moana will celebrate the islands, communities, and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to forge her own path. Moana won admirers from all around the world thanks to her journey of self-discovery, reflection on the lives of her ancestors, and her friendship with an exiled demigod named Maui. Bringing Moana's lovely tale to the live-action big screen is an honour that leaves Johnson feeling "truly humbled and overflowing with gratitude," said Johnson, who intends to sail back into the story's imaginary world with Moana. "This narrative is part of my culture, and it exemplifies the grace and bravery of our people. The mana and spirit of my late grandpa, High Chief Peter Maivia, pushed me to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Maui. I proudly carry this culture in both my body and soul. The worlds of song and dance, which are at the very core of who we are as Polynesian people, are the best mediums for us to celebrate the story of our people, our passion, and our goal. I want to express my gratitude to my Disney business partners for their exceptional commitment to this fantastic endeavour. Moana's influence is broad, according to Cravalho, a Native Hawaiian actor who played the lead in the first movie and helped mould her character. According to Cravalho, "She has had such a tremendous impact on how we conceive of Disney princesses." "Moana's tenacity and strength are an inspiration to me, to audiences throughout the world, and to everyone who worked so hard to make her a reality. I'm excited to tell her story in a brand-new way. The Little Mermaid will join a successful lineup of live-action adaptations that includes Beauty and the Beast (2017), Aladdin (2019), and the eagerly anticipated The Little Mermaid, which will hit theatres on May 26., according to Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production (Disney Live Action). The notion of working with these incredible collaborators to present such an important story on a live-action canvas, especially as we commemorate 100 years of storytelling at Disney, is amazing, Bailey added. Different reimagining ideas for WDW Splash that would have made more sense.
In Disneyland, using Tiana is a perfect reimagining because it borders New Orleans Square in Disneyland. This offers room for a whole new dining experience, as well as removing the problematic song of the South representation.
in Walt Disney World however, this ride is placed in frontier land nowhere near New Orleans Square, which means other reimagining‘s could’ve been used sticking with this location. One of my favorite redeeming‘s which does not fit with frontier land would be emperors. New groove just picture it you have the first drop, where you throw off the emperors groove I got thrown out the window . And then you have Ezma and Kronk plotting and “pull the lever Kronk” “Wrong lever!” And finally “about to go over a waterfall” “sharp rocks at the bottom” “most likely” “ bring it on!” And the ride vehicles being like the roller coaster vehicle in that little enemy, the part where they go down to the lab.
I understand that this does not fit with frontier land, but neither does Tiana. So what other options would be better?
A goofy movie would be a great fit for a reimagining as they do drive through the Grand Canyon before ending up in the Colorado river and then the waterfall scene where they go over the waterfall and then float up on a makeshift parachute. It already has a ton of dark ride potential with the opossum park, maxes of initial powerline concert, getting chased by Bigfoot, etc. seems like a natural fit me, but I understand Disney’s really been pushing the princesses so that throws out my other options of onward Luca treasure planet not ever gonna happen. Atlantis also never gonna happen but it does leave room for Wreck-It Ralph, Moana or Encanto. Not princess, but also woodwork would be a Zootopia very gender neutral, and has a really great story.
Those all are newer films that will attract younger families and families with younger kids which admittedly is Disney’s current target audience. So at the end of the day we should be getting two reimagining’s not just one. Tiana’s Bayou adventure in Disneyland, and some thing that fits with what we already have for theme in the area in Magic Kingdom.
Am I upset about the re-theme ? No! I am actually thrilled it is happening.

Guide to my Rewrites (and other content)
Upcoming hiatus
I post a lot of things, and some of those things are rewrites. As such, I thought this would be a nice guide for fans of my rewrites in particular. I'm still adding new things! Lemme know what you think. I've also added some overall ratings for the topics I cover for younger Tumblr users who happen upon this page.
Alternate Takes (Rated PG)
These are projects that have the same characters and settings (for the most part), but different plot points. These particular alternate takes suggest ideas that would've made me enjoy the movie more (or at all) and aren't a fanfic so much as bullet points with pictures.
Aida
Pocahontas
Hercules
The Princess and the Frog
Tangled
Frozen
Big Hero 6
Moana
Frozen 2
Raya and the Last Dragon
Encanto
Strange World
Wish (Note: working on a full-length rewrite unrelated to the ideas used here)
I also did rewrites for two Dreamworks movies:
The Road to El Dorado
Sinbad
Reimagining Disney Movies (Rated PG)
These are projects that take Disney's framework (ie a fairy tale) and create my own characters, plot, setting, and song titles for it.
The Snow Queen
Kingdom of the Sun
Rapunzel
Reimagining Disney eras (Rated PG)
These posts are designed based on what if Disney eras made different decisions (either based on my own ideas or rejected concepts) for their films. Note: I made the revival post before the renaissance and post-renaissance posts, so they kind of flow in different continuities. I also wanted to include future ideas for Disney's next era. These posts also work independent of my "Alternate Take" posts.
Reimagining the Renaissance
Reimagining the Post-renaissance
Reimagining the Revival era
Plotting out the Resurgence era
Plotting out the Resurgence Era (Part II)
Marvel (Rated PG-13)
Not quite as detailed as my other rewrites, but I thought I'd include them.
Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
X-Men (Because they have more content than my other Marvel things) (Rated PG-13)
This pretty much just includes my rewrites.
X-Men: Evolution--New roster, Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Roster (Timeskip), Season 4, and Season 5 (I did a poll months ago, and maybe I'll do a post brainstorming a Marauders spinoff).
Wolverine & the X-Men--New Roster, Season 1
Fox's X-Men films (I may remake this)--Part I (First 3 films) and Part II (Phoenix, NM, and Dark Phoenix)
Extensive rewrites (Rated PG)
TV shows that I've remade episode-for--episode, perhaps removing and adding some as I see fit.
Miraculous Ladybug--Season 1, Season 2, Season 3, Season 4 (No longer doing Season 5; really fell out of love with the series, tbh)
Anime as comic books (Rated PG-13)
Yes, this is a topic. I remember when I was in this headspace, and it was really fun. I basically reimagined what if popular anime had been created as superhero comic books that golden or silver age.
Dragon Ball
Naruto
Anime rewrites (Rated PG-13)
Black Butler
Naruto: Part I (Part II is not cancelled; I just put it on the backburner)
High Card: Season 1 (Season 2 is not cancelled; I just put it on the backburner)
Video Game Rewrites (Rated PG-13, overall)
These aren't quite as detailed as my usual rewrites.
Bayonetta
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Fire Emblem: Fates
Fire Emblem: 3 Houses
Kingdom Hearts
Hogwarts Mystery
My OCs (Rated PG-13)
This section covers my original characters for a few fandoms. Thinking of making OCs for books/anime/comics, but I do not have the confidence that I know the universe(s) well enough.
Fictif
The Arcana
Hogwarts Legacy
Baldur's Gate 3
Mood Boards (Rated PG)
Just something I've made for fun to inspire others! Not an expert on making them, but it was still something I wanted to do.
My Wish rewrite (temporary)
Disney's Swan Lake
Disney's Hansel & Gretel
Disney's Rumpelstiltskin
Disney's Red Riding Hood
Sub-Saharan Disney musical
Disney Superhero Film
Japanese Disney musical
Actors who could play Disney villains
Choices: Stories You Play (Rated PG-13)
REALLY into this game for a period--but it started to get awful when "Witness" came into play. Here's a list of reviews (which I've stopped doing) as well as concepts for new books (originally on Reddit before I got banned).
"Before I Say I Do"
"Celebrity Status"
"Summoned to Court"
"Arkikara"
"Fairy Godparent"
"Hierarchy: Scheming University"
"Willow Falls"
"Late at Night"
"Spellcaster"
"Four"
"America's Most Eligible" (Review)
"Desire & Decorum" (Review)
"High School Story" (Review)
"Rules of Engagement" (Review)
"The Freshman" (Review)
"Queen B" (Review)
Winx Club Content
Rewriting the Winx
Rewriting the Specialists
Rewriting the Villains
Monster High Content
Plotting out Gen 4
Comic Book Content
Remaking Major X
Rewriting Iceman coming out
Making changes to Tim Drake
