It's the 2nd place mathematics medal that John Irving won in school in 1830 when he was fifteen! It was found on King William Island in 1879 by Frederick Schwatka and his men near the grave of who we assume to be Irving based on the medal and other artifacts found there. They brought the skeleton back to Scotland and buried him in Dean cemetery in Edinburgh in 1881 under a gravestone that includes a carving of the medal.

I don't know where the medal went after that, whether it was reburied with him or given to the family or kept by someone else, or where it is now but it haunts me day and night. I hate the idea that something that was so important to him that he carried it to his grave was taken from him after death but I recognise that's just me being abnormal about him lol. On the other hand I do think it's funny that he seemingly carried around a memento of That Time He Won Something for 18+ years but also. Relatable as fuck. I love you John.

I went to my brother from another mother’s house this afternoon, kicked my shoes off, & walked to the livingroom to claim my favorite spot on the couch to take a nap while the boys finished editing the footage from the shoot a few weekends ago.

As soon as I sat down I asked him “where’s my step child?” &Phoenix’s grey little head popped up above the side of the couch, & when he saw me he immediately jumped up, plopped down, & buried his head against me & THENNN he put his little paw around my thigh like he wanted to cuddle me back while he laid there & I almost exploded with joy. 🥹🥹🥹

I swear he was a human in a past life or something the way he cuddles. They have a giant beanbag in the corner of the livingroom & little dude went & curled up to nap there while I played Destiny 2 for a bit, then when I was done playing I went & woke him up by curling up in a semicircle around him [[like he’s the donut hole to my donut body]] & he grabbed my arm with his little paw to bring me closer & rested his head on my wrist

Sehwan stepped out of the precinct and stopped to take in a breath or two as he leaned against the building. Could it really possibly be that Emine's husband had really found them, had made his way to Redwood after all this time? He was almost sure of it. And for the first time since the outbreak of this shitty virus had ravaged the country, Sehwan thought he felt the beginnings of something that felt a lot like hope.

Pushing himself off the building, he immediately headed towards the daycare. There was no way of knowing for sure unless Emi actually checked and Sehwan wasn't about to delay that happening a second longer. If anyone deserved something good finally happening to them, it was Emi. He felt like the town needed this too though. Needed a reminder that good things can happen, even in this shithole of a world they found themselves in now. Hell, he needed the reminder more than just about anybody these days.

As he quickly walked up to the daycare, Sehwan grabbed the attention of one of the childcare providers and explained the situation, asking them if they would be able to cover for Emi for a while. Upon their agreement, they lead him to the room where Emi was working. Sehwan stopped to take in another breath, trying to mentally prepare himself for the fact that he could be wrong, that this wasn't Emi's husband after all. He needed to be ready to deal with that blow if it came to it, especially because he would have to be strong for Emi's sake. God, he hoped he was right! After a moment, he stepped into the room. Getting Emi's attention, he nodded towards the hall behind him, silently asking her to join him as the other daycare worker stepped into the room to take Emi's place.
