Didn’t you suggest Jake Windsnap being Caribbean? The Caribbean was once British territory, the movie version of Emily Windsnap will take place in Britain, maybe the movie will do something with that.
YES!! I see what you mean! This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’d love to see the Emily Windsnap movies show some real world parallels. Because these movies will be for a much wider demographic including adults. And rereading the series as an adult, I picked up on lots of real world parallels.
Neptune’s kingdom could very well be a stand-in for the British Empire. Jake moving from the Caribbean to Britain is like British-Caribbean immigrants to this day. And historically, Britain colonized the Caribbean for the purpose of finding and taking precious resources by violent means. Like Neptune did with his Kraken. This would mean Neptune came and colonized/exploited Jake’s home, so I wonder what Jake and Neptune’s dynamic might be like. This does add a darker subtext to Jake and Neptune’s dynamic in the books. Anyways apologies to anyone who read "The Pisces" but I am not strong enough to read the last 20-15 chapters of the book and just chickened out to the last chapter. It's definitely a good book with an unlikable protagonist, but I also think that's the point. It's not wrong to have an unlikable protagonist, but I just don't think the book was for me. It definitely intrigued me though.
#The Pisces#okay Kisari we get it you can't handle unstable women#actually I don't think I can handle too much of the crazy stuff that happens in this book but I'm not going to call it bad for that#but like by the time there's about 20 chapters left you definitely know where the book is going like a car crash that you can't stop#and you know it won't stop#I do like the use of the mermaid/merman/siren part tho#that's all I'm here for I'm just straight up a mermaid character enthusiast at this point and might re-read a few books about them#Because I read a bunch during my Emily Windsnap era but It's been too long for me to remember them#but like if this gets turned into a movie#for all you girlies who want your joker or something she's for you#go wild Lucy apologists you know who she is

So glad to meet another “Little Mermaid” remake fan!! Now looking forward to the “Tail of Emily Windsnap” movie adaptation, which is like a genderbent “Little Mermaid”.
the little mermaid has been my fave disney movie since i was a kid and i love obsessing over the live action now which made the story so much better!
honestly with the live action, i don’t think eric will become king. it’s not what he wants. jonah has said eric felt out of place in the castle because he wasn’t born into it. he was adopted after they found him washed up from a shipwreck as a baby. he still loves his family but being with ariel and exploring the world with her is what he really wants 🥹❤️

Out of pure curiosity , who would you fancast for the Emily Windsnap movie ? It’s so rare that I get to chat with someone who’s read the series, let alone loves it :)
I’m awful at fan casting, but I always say I want a no name actor/actress and when its younger character I like to see them grow in their skills and characterization.
Or a dark horse actor. Henry Cavil has been acting for YEARS before he became a household name. So I like it when it’s someone unknown I usually prefer them over a huge A list star.

Since Brightport will be in England…do you think the “Emily Windsnap” movie will hire all English actors? Or just anyone who can do a good English accent?
Ori’s Comment: Hmmm, they probably won’t limit it to just british actors, but you’re probably right, they will need to be able to do a british accent of some sort.

In "Little Mermaid 2"'s defense, I did like its premise of Ariel having a daughter discover her nautical origins!
It might be the first, because a bunch of similar movies came out later (Throne of Atlantis, Moana, Song of the Sea, Barbie in a Mermaid Tale, etc.) . And the book "The Tail of Emily Windsnap" has several similarities too.
Absolutely! I love the trope of a girl discovering she’s a mermaid (or other fantasy creature). It’s part of why I love LM2 and still identify so strongly with Melody. I do think they could have made that work without her parents lying to her, though. (Not without some substantial changes to the plot, but those are needed anyway…)
Emily Windsnap does have a few issues of its own, but at least there’s a pretty solid reason why she doesn’t figure out what she is until she’s twelve. Actually, memory magic could have potentially worked for Melody, too - what if she knew the truth all along, but then Morgana found a spell that would mess with her memories so she’d let her guard down and be vulnerable? Then she’d get to REdiscover her mermaid heritage. Not the best solution I’ve ever come up with for LM2, but if done properly, it could still be an improvement lol
#idk just rambling#also in the mermaid story I’m writing there’s some serious memory manipulation#so I’m probably a little biased from having that on my mind when I work on it lol#little mermaid 2#emily windsnap#asks#ahg

If you've read "Emily Windsnap"...I think that series started a human/merman romance trend in pop culture. So maybe without Emily Windsnap we wouldn't have Nashuri 🧜♂️❤️🐈⬛ !
I have not read Emily Windsnap 😱 but I knew its popularity when I was in elementary cuz the cover was everywhere!
i didnt know it had a human/merman romance 👀 sounds rad 💖 do y’all remember Thirteenth Year on Disney Channel, the only merman movie I can remember cuz i wanted to be a mermaid so bad 😫
now we have Namor, with Nashuri at the forefront in human/merman relationships and i am living for it!

Morri sending random questions because she's bored. Feel free to ignore.
What's your number one comfort movie?
What's your favorite d&d class? (Bonus: subclass?)
What book/series were you absolutely obsessed with as a child?
What's your favorite book currently?
If you were going to get a cat tomorrow, what would you name it?
ooh, I love these thank you Morri!
What's your number one comfort movie? probably Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind or Castle in the Sky. Ghibli movies never fail to bring comfort and these two are mine and my partner's favorite Ghibli movies lol
What's your favorite d&d class? (Bonus: subclass?) my favorite class is Bard (obv lol) but my favorite subclasses are arcane trickster rogues and wild magic sorcerers. Wild magic is best magic xD
What book/series were you absolutely obsessed with as a child? It's a little niche, but I was absolutely obsessed with "The Tale of Emily Windsnap" novels and the "Amulet" graphic novel series as a kid. I still love "Amulet" tbh, book 9 can't release soon enough
What's your favorite book currently? I'm not reading anything at the moment, but my most recent favorite is probably Patrick Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles. Patrick has incredible prose in his writing and the books are hard to put down once you pick them up.
If you were going to get a cat tomorrow, what would you name it? Ooh, I think I would name them based on the vibes they give off personally, but if my roommate and I were to get one I think it would be funny to name it after an NPC from our DnD campaign
#the void's ask box#sorry for the late reply i was running all over the place after work yesterday#NPC name options would be either Odd Garden (a beloved NPC that died)#or Luca (a silver dragon disguised as a gnome that was supposed to help us but we killed him bc he killed a bunch of my rogue's family) >:c

With similar upcoming movies like Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken and Emily Windsnap , Melody’s got have some competition 😆 (on a serious note, it’s interesting how shortly after Little Mermaid 2 came a bunch of similar movies — Aquaman, Song of the Sea, Barbie in a Mermaid Tale, etc. — it’s like everybody wanted to redo the movie in their own way.)
Now that the Little Mermaid Live Action is proving to be a global success, the next logical move is to take advantage of its popularity to fix The Little Mermaid 2 and give Melody the story she deserved since 1999.
