If indie horror games have taught me anything it’s don’t start a business with your best friend because one of you will become a murderer and trap the other in a cycle of dread and despair.

I may or may not feel a bit sorry for her…

Okay obviously Vivian is an ass but you do have to wonder about the rest of the Arcadia six. Do you think some of them feel bad for what they did/are doing. Do you think some of them miss Emily Garland, their friend, who helped them escape, not Vivian Walton. Do they mourn her even though she’s not dead, just so unrecognisable from the person they knew. Do you think seeing what was presumably the most traumatic event of their lives being recreated over and over again was their last straw to leave Walton Media. Do you think some of them sought out Trevor and Angela just to try and find some solace in their pain. Do you think they tried to help them create Solano Hills and make the documentary not for some sort of revenge but just as a way of trying to get closure.
Or do you think some of them tried a similar approach to Vivian, pretend, get a new identity, stay with Walton Media even if they’ve hurt you so much because that’s where your friends are. Do you think some of them have become so caught up in a fantasy like Vivian is and have told so many lies to the point where they’ve started believing them.

Emily Garland is bitter. She had a chance at freedom and she traded it away for the comfort of a gilded cage. She’s trapped within the confines of the persona she’s created for herself, and I think on some level she knows that most if not all of the joy brought on by her success as Vivian Walton is purely artificial. She and the rest of the six wanted the power to decide their own lives, but in the end she wound up performing for the cameras all over again—except for this time it was her own choices that put her there.
She’s trapped and unhappy—and yeah, I think the whole Trevor thing was definitely a ploy to improve the ratings, but I also think it was Emily trying to prove to herself that the choices she made after escaping Arcadia were inevitable: that it was impossible not to wind up in her position. That it’s not her fault she’s trapped as the face of the corporation that once exploited her. She puts this guy through hell, manipulates him and taunts him and wears down his resolve, and then she makes him pretty much the same offer Walton Media did to her all those years ago. And he’d be insane not to accept, right? Because Emily did everything right when it was her in this situation; there’s no other way this could possibly end.
I think Trevor rejecting her and leaving to live a happy, successful life outside Arcadia is the biggest slap in the face Emily could’ve received. He did what she couldn’t. It sends her into a spiral of what-ifs; if she’d had a friend on the outside, or a stronger conviction, or maybe even if she’d stayed closer with the rest of the six, would she still be stuck performing for the American Arcadia audiences? But I think ultimately it proves that she took the easy way out, that yeah the outside world is harsh and frightening, but there’s absolutely a life waiting out there for anyone willing to reach for it.
Vivian thought she had it all figured out and she got proved wrong by an account manager and one of her own stage technicians. Tbh I think she’s the most tragic character in AA.

some books truly do not need sequels but that a story isn't necessary doesn't always make it bad; i've said this before but stories are not perfectly calibrated plot-exporting machines, sometimes taking a side-road is fun simply because it is possible, sometimes it will add to your understanding in a way you didn't think to question, sometimes it's simply pleasurable to revisit the lives of characters you care for

if I had a nickel for every time there was a kind of obscure indie piece of media where a character named vivian was an antagonist but in a kind of fucked up and tragic way id have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot but it's fun that it's happened twice

Thinking about how Vivian going back to Walton Media, coming back from a life where her every second was filmed constantly into a place where she was still filmed but she had control. She could control when she was filmed, who was looking at her and when but the anxiety would probably never truly leave her

Ginger Snaps (2000)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
TW: Some of this film revolves around self-harm and suicide. Be aware of triggers.

God didn’t let me watch this film during the same night I watched Jennifer’s Body because he knew it would have made me too powerful.
Prior to watching this movie, I only knew the major plot point. The disruption that causes everyone to stir. I didn’t anticipate to be completely enchanted by the aesthetics that were prominent by the tail-end of 90s grunge.
I am a sucker for weird girls that don’t fit into the jungle of high school. I can only imagine how much harder that is if you are attacked by a mysterious beast that has been haunting your small town. At least their mother was as supportive as she was.
Overall, the violence in this movie is manageable because the camera is sharp and jerky, which evoke a super tense feeling. I couldn’t follow who was where and who I was rooting for.
Minus half a star for the amount of dog carcasses that are in this film.
You should watch this if:
You love saying “Oooh, he had it coming!”
You are a sucker for the misunderstood characters
You love any mythology involving the moon/cycles/coming into a higher power
Titles similar to this:
Jennifer’s Body (2009) (Hot weird girl)
The Craft (1996) (Group of weird girls being spooky)
Carrie (1976) (Weird girl on the loose!!)
