The little girl—who you learned to be Pasha—nodded, letting out another sigh as she grabbed another wildflower from her stockpile, tucking it into your hair.

"Really big," her twin sister, Iza, answered, tying off another small braid she'd made. "There's twelve of us all together."

Just the thought made you lightheaded, your mind somehow unable to comprehend one woman doing all that.

After getting cornered by the Navy, and nearly capsizing while trying to escape, Nami decided the crew was well overdue for some rest and relaxation.

Luckily, the executives at nearby Elysia Resort were more than eager to welcome you into their facilities—on the consensus that nothing would be stolen and no fights would be started.

So, while the others fooled around on the beach, or did some daytime reading, or made their fifteenth pass at the buffet, you hung out at the resort's impossibly large, impossibly luxurious pool.

Where you seemed to have attracted the local population of tween girls.

"Wait, but I thought pirates with braids were cliché?" you asked, confused, as you skimmed through the magazines some of the new girls brought over.

"Cli-what?" Maya cocked her head to the side, scrunching her nose as she adjusted her floaties.

"Old news," Leona clarified before turning to you, pulling a few of the braids Iza had finished toward your cheekbones. "And they're making a comeback. Like feather earrings."

"Please," Pasha scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Feather earrings are not making a comeback."

"Tell that to Kaizoku Style," Iza grinned, holding up a magazine that read LOOTING CHIC in bold letters right above a head-shot of a woman wearing feather earrings.

"They don't look too bad," you nodded, gliding your feet through the crystal blue water of the shallow end.

"See," Leona smirked, crossing her arms in triumph. "If they're not the new thing, then what is?"

"Bangles," Pasha answered, matter-of-factly.

"They've been in fashion!"

"You were the one that stole them out of momma's jewelry box, weren't you?" Mila teased.

"I did not!"

"There," Iza smiled, tying off the very last braid before giving your shoulder a soft pat. "All done."

Carefully, you leaned forward, taking a peek at your reflection through the clear water and smiling brightly at what you saw.

Your hair was adorned with all different flavors of bloom, the vibrant colors only enhancing your natural beauty.

And the braids added depth to your curls, giving it a majestic and earth-woven look.

"Oh, girls, I—"

"DOG PILE!" a random boy exclaimed, an army of them seeming to follow as they all let out a unanimous battle cry, quite literally canon-balling right on top of you.

A chorus of screaming young girls echoed throughout the pool as boys of varying ages rained from the sky—one in particular jumping on top of your head and shoving you underwater.

"NO, WAIT MY—!"

Your eye twitched, and underwater you let out a sigh of frustration as your hands snapped up to cover your chest.

'You've gotta be kidding me...'

Once the assault was over, you stood from the pool floor, glancing at the ripped bikini top floating on the chlorinated surface as you turned to the girls—most of which too busy chasing down their brothers for ruining their hair.

"You all okay?" you asked, suddenly incredibly tired.

"We're fine," Pasha sighed, shaking the water out her ear. "They always do stuff like this."

"All right, then. I'm gonna go find something to cover... this..."

Turning around, you stepped out the pool and started the trek back to the cabana, moving at a brisk pace as you kept your hands firmly pressed against your bare chest.

Even though you loved children, you had to admit that you were less than pleased to see a bunch of teens had broken your top.

And even less so that they had failed to apologize.

But, if the boyish cries of "Uncle! Uncle!" from the far end of the pool were anything to go off of, then you were sure the girls had fought to avenge and defend your honor.

Sensing someone's presence, you pulled yourself out of your thoughts, only to see your swordsman standing right before you.

His eye dragged over your body, almost analytically, gauging your situation and gathering his response.

"The kids broke your top, didn't they?" Zoro asked, his hand sliding down into his pocket.

"How'd you guess?" you sighed, slightly hanging your head, now thoroughly regretting you didn't wear a one piece.

"Was doin' some strength workouts on the beach when I heard a bunch of kids screamin'. Remembered you were hangin' out over here and decided to check it out to make sure you were all right."

"Well—"

But before you could even say anything, he tugged his haramaki over your head, carefully securing it over your chest before scooping you up in his arms.

"Zoro!" you flushed, arms instinctively wrapping around his neck, managing to brush past his strong deltoids in the process.

"M'tired. You're comin' to nap with me," he stated, completely serious and leaving no room for argument as he started the trek back up to your room.

In the moment, he didn't mean to be so curt.

It wasn't you he was upset at, but rather all the creepy, on-leave marines he'd snapped at on his way, who were laughing and leering at your body like what happened to you was funny.

you listened as she spoke about how aponia and griseo baked cookies together that morning, on the behalf of griseos request. she saw and she thought it was cute, and now she wants to do the same thing with you, too. 

you nodded, before lightly pushing her off of you and getting up to check and make sure you have the right ingredients. 

you didn’t.

so, that made for an eventful late night shopping trip with elysia! you came in needing flower and chocolate chips. you both knew that. you both repeated it to yourselves with each other over 40 times, at least.

you spent over 100 dollars and have a cartful of grocery bags. whoopsies! 

but it’s okay, you got to go out with your girlfriend. she made it fun anyways. but back onto the point!

you two immediately went to work in the kitchen, with elysia telling you the ingredients and you mixing them together. your ipad was filled with flour, due to elysia wanting to make the dry mixture but accidentally spilling a whole thing of flour everywhere. you laughed at the sight, making her laugh too.

there was also another accident in the kitchen, where you both “accidentally” put a whole entire bag of chocolate chips into the mixture (where you later on regret it), leading to even more laughter.

she tried to initiate a flour fight a couple times, but you didn’t necessarily feel like cleaning even more of a mess up tonight. she understood, so she just bounced around the kitchen, bringing you all the ingredients you needed. 

thats when she brought out heart and flower shaped cookie cutters! when she laid them down on the counter, you swore you could see her eyes glimmer with happiness. you smiled, feeling incredible that you could bring such a heartwarming experience to your gorgeous girlfriend. 

“alrighty, into the oven they go!” she laughed a little, before putting pink oven mitts on her hands and sliding the cookie pan onto the top rack. “these look sooooo yum. i hope they turn out alright…”

INTRODUCING ELYSIA, AKA AGENT ZERO !!

Species : Octoling

Affiliation : Former Elite Octoling in the Octarian Army, currently an agent in the Squidbeak Splatoon

Main Weapon : Splatana w/ Burst Bomb and Inkstrike

(splatanas exist as of splatoon one’s events rather than appearing in splatoon three’s era, for my sake ㅠㅠ)

Basic Backstory : I was born into the Octarian Army, and quickly rose to the top of the ranks due to my exceptional fighting skill. Before the Octarians steal the Great Zapfish, they send out their best Octoling soldiers to scope out the Inkopolis Plaza area, me being among them. I plan my escape for a few days while on these missions, and eventually flee into Inkopolis a few days before the Great Zapfish is stolen.

Afterwards… : I run into Agent 3 shortly after my escape, and debrief her on everything that has led up to this point. Since I have nowhere to go, she lets me live with her and shows me around Inkopolis. When news breaks that the Great Zapfish has been stolen, we find ourselves in Octo Valley, and Captain Cuttlefish yaps on about “THE OCTARIANS ARE UPON US!!!” and “YOU HAVE THAT LOOK IN YOUR EYES!!!” and we become Agents 0 and 3!

Alarice kinda has tension with Elysia (much like Robb and Alaric did when growing up-). Kinda a rivalry in some ways- they class often. Alarice gets annoyed Elysia’s little miss perfect shtick and Elysia gets frustrated by Alarice’s attitude. Alarice is HIGHLY competitive and overly ambitious. A lil on the arrogant side but it really does stem from her wanting to prove herself as the youngest child. She hatesss being “the baby” of the family and even the robnikmeria dont see her as just the baby (they know she’s capable!! They know all their kids are!!) she still has a chip on her shoulder lol.

After a bit of cooling down, I guess I should post something about my HSR 3.4 impression.

I tried to get my expectations as low as possible before going in, so actually doing it was.......... not as bad as I feared!

Notably, it is much shorter than I feared and I skipped any optional stuff aside from checking the memory fragments at the Vortex, so that helped.

But also, the actual Khaslana backstory was fairly competently delivered (as a standalone). The part about his and Cyrene's 0 cycle loop ending and starting the regression business works well enough that you could even kind of overlook the issues on the details, and the cycling portions are like... fine. I didn't feel much personally, but it was fine, and I can imagine why everyone else is crying about it.

However, I struggle to actually call it good and I think it keeps adding on to a number of ongoing issues, where Amphoreus really suffers from... Hoyo writing(tm).

First, getting this out there, the TB continues to be basically the weakest part of the story. In order to shoehorn in TB as the Big Hero while giving the TB zero meaningful traits, they have to lean in on the idea that Amphoreus is omega doomed and only a miracle from literally outside their world could possibly save them. But the TB has no qualities aside from being outside their world and has done... basically nothing meaningful this whole time, so it just feels annoying. It undercuts everyone and everything in Amphoreus by making them incapable of doing anything to save themselves, but don't worry, here's a deus ex machina to uuuuh be in the right place at the right time. Gosh, if only one of you guys was from outer space, then you'd be able to figure it out, but too bad!

Very weak from top to bottom, and every time I had to see TB's dumb face in the middle of this patch, I rolled my eyes. We are SO worthless here. Which is why the strongest portions, the Khaslana backstory ones, basically don't even show us.

Second, Amphoreus often feels like it could be really good... probably because it has enough pieces for 3 separate stories, so you're always left with the impression that, if you just cut out the useless 2/3rds you don't find interesting, the remaining stuff (that you can pick and choose in this imaginary scenario) would be amazing. The problem is that, Hoyo does not care to either edit enough to remove 2/3rds or to make the whole thing feel more cohesive. There's just too much stuff in Amphoreus, and the vast majority of it never goes anywhere or adds anything, yet at the same time, it's still there, clogging things up and making the story drag.

Third, and I think this one weakens this specific patch a lot, even more than the TB issue, is that there was just not really any buildup to this. This whole timelooping disaster doesn't feel like it naturally arises from what we've experienced until now.

You do need the previous patches to give more weight to the timelooping, but the timelooping doesn't feel like an "oh! so that's what it was! this is why XYZ!" coming from the previous patches, if you know what I mean.

In fact, most of Amphoreus is like this. Another example: 3.2 and Castorice. We're told that the River of Souls is clogged up and the netherworld is full of souls that cannot pass on. And this has been the case since Death even became a thing in this cycle. But this has literally never even been hinted at before in the main story. It feels like a problem that was invented purely for the sake of Castorice's story, which in turn makes it and her feel separate from the world of Amphoreus.

Khaslana's loops are also ultimately going to turn out like this. There was basically nothing in the main story that was impacted by not being the first loop. Mydei's ambiguous inconsistencies don't matter, and the issue of Flame Reaver wiping out Aedes Elysiae and Phainon's hatred for him is just kind of dropped. You could cut all that and he wouldn't act differently at any point. Everything else proceeded entirely normally. So there was no real setup for this twist. And now that Khaslana has peaced out and TB is back in the past (to meet the remaining Heirs that we couldn't collect in the original "present day"), there is not really any functional difference between 33 million time loops and us just getting to the end once, finding out about Irontomb, and getting sent back in time that once to... somehow... fix things.

Sorry, but like. Literally, it doesn't matter. We could have just been in the 0 loop with Cyrene and Phainon, and then Cyrene set us back instead of Phainon, and there would be no difference.

I seriously mean this.

(And let's not forget from the Aventurine experience that we are most likely never going to circle back to Khaslana. He'll just get fished out of the ether off screen somewhere and be just fine after the story is done.)

If you somehow make 33 million loops functionally not matter, you have a problem.

Which I guess connects to...

Fourth, the scope creep. There is no reason to ever make anything 33 million. That number is past anything that can be comprehended. It's just silly. This extends to a lot of the general excessiveness of the lore, but the 33 million is particularly bad.

Fifth, I will mention it in passing, but Hoyo are just really, really bad at managing the details of their stories. They just do not bother keeping track of their own story or character elements, so there will be countless plot threads or details that just get dropped, even when it feels like they should matter. I'm not going to bother listing specific examples, but goddamn there is a lot. It ultimately gives the story an extremely sloppy feeling, which is especially bad in something like a timeloop setup, where you need to be dotting your i's and crossing your t's.

Anyway. Ultimately, not as bad as I had feared but also very whatever patch.
