"The band's style incorporates characteristics of melodic death metal combined with the melodies of traditional Celtic music. They use traditional European instruments, including the hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes, amidst guitars and both clean and harsh vocals. Their lyrics include references to Celtic mythology, particularly of Celtic Gaul. The lyrics are often in a reconstructed form of the extinct ancient language Gaulish."
If yr bands Wikipedia doesn't look like this I don't want it

Sometimes the most fascinating things about studying ancient cultures and peoples is what we don't know.
I like using Gaul as an example. We know how they built their cities and what they wore and how their armies were structured and what they ate.
We don't know how they truly named themselves. We don't know Vercingetorix's name, it's not Vercingetorix, that's a title, it loosely translates to "great king of heroes" with a lot of variation.
Gaulish naming traditions meant people didn't share their real name, and Gaulish is a dead language with scattered sources. When the band Eluvietie wrote songs in the language, it had to be a reconstructed version. A lot of dead languages don't come with the clean, highly written sources of Latin and Ancient Greek.
Sometimes, though, just the knowledge that we don't know one king's real name is...just something interesting to think about. A king, over a millennia detached from us, was taught as a child never to share his true name with anyone but family in the same way we're taught not to share our full name online. A metal band centuries removed from the Gauls wrote songs the way they used to, using reconstructions taken from their tablets.
Just, people, man.

Any song recommendations?
depends on what you're looking for! if you're a fan of symphonic folk metal i'd recommend Eluvietie's The Call of the Mountains.
if you want more power metal, i'd recommend Gloryhammer's Hootsforce (the video for this one in particular is awesome. they defeat a space wizard in submarines.)
if you're less into metal and more into 80s synth, i am legally required to recommend Night Runner's Magnum Bullets.
and if you like pop, i've really enjoyed the song Inner Gold off of Lindsey Stirling's new album!
#rabbit.asks#i have. a LOT of variety in my playlists so if you want something specific i may be able to provide

The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s King by placing it under threat of capture which cannot be avoided.

It’s hard to find Medieval songs that are actually… Medieval. Like, what you’d imagine to hear in Medieval times.

12/365 Songs: The Call of the Mountains by Eluvietie [Listen]
What’s that stir, so blatant in our sallying hearts? What’s that urge, that lifted up our longing eyes? What’s that ring, echoing from the leaden skies? What’s that augur, resounding from the lyre’s strings? A cry rang on in the sibilant winds A behest, the outcry of the cranes
